Give the person all the stats: name, weight, height, time and the person will post for everyone in the group to see. You can leave a message if you don't get the person.

You may or may not pack all this. If you are having a home birth or going to a birthing center or have use of a whirlpool, you can change your needs accordingly. You will have to use your judgement about how much you want to take with you to the hospital. These are just suggestions.
Mom Essentials
* 2 nursing bras
* robe (or just use 2nd gown turned around, you will be messy)
* slippers or slipper socks
* pjs (best to just wear hospital gown, you will be messy)
* outfit for leaving (maternity, as you will not fit in regular clothes yet)
* underwear (best to wear just the mesh panties hospital uses, if available)
Optional
* breast pads
* CD's & CD player
* magazines
* My Breast Friend nursing pillow or Boppy Pillow
* Pillows in colored pillow cases
* Watch with a second hand
* Water bottle with straw
* Bottle of non-alcoholic champagne
* Breast pump
* Coins for phones and vending machines
* Calling Cards
* baby book and/or birth announcements, thank you notes and pen
* birthing ball
Stongly Suggested
* cameras (video and digital/35mm)
* call lists (family and friends)
* Car Seat user manual - another mommy suggested this - she couldn't figure out how to adjust the straps once she got ready to leave...this was a life saver.
* snacks for self and DH
* notebook or pregnancy journal and pen (for keeping details tracked of your labor)
* preggie pops, Dum dum lollipops or hard candy to suck on
* insurance cards (copies)
* Massage stuff
* Frozen Water bottle (for rolling on back)
* Maxi pads with wings (buy the THICKEST ones - Overnights)
Toiletries:
* toothbrush/toothpaste or Brush-Ups instead
* shampoo, cond., body wash, loofah
* deodorant and body spray
* lip balm
* brush/ comb
* makeup and pre-moistened make up removers
* pony tail holders
* contact case, saline, glasses
* toilet paper - will like better than industrial tp at the hospital
* antibacterial spray - for tears or rips
* Breast balm - if you plan on breast feeding
For Baby
* going home outfit and socks (best to take a preemie and newborn)
* 2 blankets (receiving)
* 2 onesies
* Baby cap
* Mittens or socks for hands
* Car seat (can't go home without one)
* Diapers (if hospital does not provide diapers)
* Baby wipes
For Hubby
* change of clothes
* Ear plugs
* Overnight clothes
* Toiletries (if he stays overnight)

Anyone do anything special for Father's Day?
We went to the mall after church and walked around, picked up the following sleeper: http://images1.snapfish.com/34738%3A989%7Ffp33%3A%3Enu%3D3278%3E943%3E%3A57%3E WSNRCG%3D323384%3A59875%3Cnu0mrj
From the Carter's Little Guy on the Go collection, was on clearance for $3.99 from $16.00, not shown is a bear that is on the back of the sleeper. Also got 2 packs of my favorite type of bootie socks by Carter's. They were a 6 pack for only $2.99. We than hit the Disney store and picked up a shirt and romper for our baby and my stepson, for a possible Disney trip in January. Walked upstairs to Hallmark, found a coupon for Cold Stone Creamery on the counter, was good for Father's Day only, so we went across the street to the other mall and picked up free cup of ice cream and than hit Babies 'R Us and pretty much finished our registry (we put on baby toys and a few other products) and than headed home.

YIKES!!!! The 3rd trimester! OK, technically, I know I have about 2 more weeks before I'm officially in the 3rd tri, but it's scary to be posting in this thread already. This pregnancy is going too fast!
ericka - as always, thanks for keeping us so organized and getting the thread up and running. It looks TERRIFIC!!!
kenswife & michellerenee - beautiful bellies!
Father's Day - nothing really. DH is in France so I didn't see him. We'll do something when he gets home. I'm going down to my parents tonight to have dinner with my family.
Hope everyone is well!

It is so scary to be posting in our last thread before mommyhood!!
Father's Day: it was my birthday yesterday as well so other than a small gift from me to Mike we didn't really celebrate Father's Day.

Wow-the third trimester thread already! Time is just flying by!
Father's Day: DS slept in until 8, which means we did, so that was especially nice since we went to dinner & a movie on Sat, and were out until 1 am! We went to the "butterfly show" at our conservatory in the morning. Basically, a room where quite a few species of butterflies fly around & land on you. DS really liked it.
We went to a big family get-together in the afternoon.
Halloween: I'll probably do some bunting type thing to coordinate with big brother, mostly for pictures. Hmmm. Probably need to start thinking about that.

Fathers Day ~ For dinner, we went to my parents house (with rest of siblings) for a big cookout. Yesterday DH just got a card, but I am ordering a bunch of Philadelphia Phillies onesies in his honor. He was supposed to have them for Father's Day ... but I became very unmotivated last week. :o :rolleyes:
Threadmistress: Can you change my husband's age to 30 please? THANK YOU!
I'm really freaking out that we are in the 3rd trimester thread!!! :eek:

Morning everyone! :)
Wowwowwow... Last thread! :D Looks great Erica and Michelle! I really like the weeks to months chart- I always wondered how it broke down. :)
I don't think I came back to update after my appointment last week - It was fine, uneventful - which is good. My peri prescribed a drug that has been shown to help prevent preterm labor, so I'll be starting that this week- It's a weekly injection, so Chris has to go with me to my appointment Wed so he can learn how to give it to me (in my butt! Hee!) :p I’m also seeing my OB today, mostly just to check in, so we can try to pretend it’s a normal pregnancy. Haha
MichelleR- Happy birthday! :) Did you hear about the house yet?
Halloween – Right now I’m focusing so hard on keeping this kid in, I haven’t even thought much about when he does come! :o I doubt I’ll do a costume, but maybe an orange sleeper or something.
New QOTD – Anyone on livejournal? I’d love to keep up with you all there, if you are. (I’m Nigellas there too)
Ericka_Jarett

I have a livejournal username, just never used it.
Costumes - won't be doing any, we don't celebrate Halloween.
Hopefully we will be able to move in a few months. Waiting to see about something to see if some of our debt gets taken care of. :) We looked at baby gates yesterday, have 3 on the registry, 1 is kinda expensive but we are leaving it there anyway. If things work out with some of the debt we are thinking of a Disney trip in January with the new baby and my stepson (he's 8 and never been to Disney). We got a romper and matching shirt for our son and my stepson yesterday (the romper has the same design as the back of the shirt: http://images1.snapfish.com/3473958%3B6%7Ffp342%3Enu%3D3278%3E943%3E%3A57%3EWS NRCG%3D32338538%3C982%3Cnu0mrj

Wow the 3 Tri already, that's just crazy to think about. Most days I still don't feel very pregnant!
Cute outfits Erika, and nice work on the thread it looks great!
LiveJournal: I ahve a username name too, but I couldn't figure the whole thing out. I guess not enough time in my day to learn a new system. And considering time will be shrinking even more in the next few months, probably not the time to learn.
Fathers Day: We didn't do anything. My dad is out of the picture and his dad has a huge BBQ he does with his friends every year. We both agreed that we would celebrate mom/dad day this year since our little one isn't here yet.
We are going on a mini-vaca to Chicago this week, so I better get to work so I can leave ;)

I can't believe that we're already into or REALLY close to the 3rd trimester! I've been so focused on buying our house that the pregnancy has gone really fast! The two year old helps too I suppose.
We close on our house today. I'll be holding my breath until we actually hear from our agent. Our stuff gets packed on Wednesday and starts off to Missouri on Thursday, so I'll probably be MIA for a few days. I fully anticipate that DD is going to freak out on me. She will be sleeping in 4 different beds within a week! I'd freak out too! We go from our house, to a hotel, to my dads for naptime on Friday, to my IL's for the weekend and then to the new house. I'm ready for the whole moving process to be over.
Quick vent-feel free to ignore-
I think that my IL's are going to drive me nuts! They have been driving past our new house every day for the last 6 weeks and we don't even own the place yet! They're a little psycho (Just kidding). I just think that they are going to totally smother us! I'm REALLY hoping that we're (mostly I'm) able to kind of keep them at bay and not take as much help as they offer. That's the problem...they are always offering to help us out with stuff, but what I forget is that their help comes with a price. That price could be as little as having dinner with them that night, or as big as having to commit to having dinner with them three nights a week for the REST OF OUR LIVES (kidding again, but only sort of!). It's just going to be hard. DH and I have been independent of family throughout our entire relationship (almost 10 years). We really wanted to move back to be close to family, mostly for our kids. There's just going to be an adjustment period, and the timing of this baby probably doesn't help that. I figured that there would probably be 3 months adjustment period, but that takes us directly into October, where WHAM...new baby throws everybody back into OUR house!!!
It will be OK...it has to be!
OK...done venting and off soapbox

HI Ladies -
Nice - the 3rd trimester thread! Very exciting!
Things are going well around here - baby girl is a maniac though! She is moving all the time!! I don't remember DS moving this much at all - yesterday I lost my breath - she felt like she was completely flipping over in my tummy - it was crazy! And today I had my adjustment for my back - I have to lay on my back for 30 minutes or so and she was kicking so much my physical therapist was amazed! He could see little bumps! My back pain is getting much worse....although I have been very lucky that it has held off this long - I guess right around now our ligaments are stretching and the discs in our spine are adjusting for birth. Not good for my herniated disc or ribs or nerve damage in my back/leg....oh well - my OB just says to take it day by day. I had my appt last week - I am only up 1lb overall - he isn't concerned b/c I was alittle overweight to begin and only gained 18lbs with DS. Although he said if I haven't gained 4 more lbs before my next appt - he will have me go for another u/s just to check baby girl. She is growing fine so far....
I am dzmattie on Livejournal too - don't post much but I try...I will friend you Nigellas! And anyone else who is over there - I love to keep up with journals and have been trying to be better with mine.
emermel - good luck on the house - it will definitely be an adjustment with your IL's...hope it works out!

Haloween costumes a friend gave us one of the ones they used for their twin boys this year for Purim - a cow. Though depending on his size, we might have to get something smaller! They were big on their boys and they were already a couple of months old by then!
bottles in the dishwasher We used about 8 different types of bottles with DD in the hopes of getting rid of gas/colic, projectile vomiting, etc (never mind 6 different formulas! :eek ) Anyway the only bottle we had issues with washing in the dishwasher were the Dr. Browns, cause they have little pieces to them that have to have a special tiny brish pushed through them to clean the little pieces. Oh, and go for the silicone nipples, they last much, much longer and hold up much much better to the dishwasher. Same goes for binkies, silicone ones can be dishwashed in my experience. Those basket thingies are a g-dsend and plan on having more than one of the baskets if you plan on using bottles every day all day, cause the dirties pile up quick! Make sure, as already said, you only use the top rack and place ALL small pieces, nipples, rings, caps, etc in the basket and make sure they are not upside down (sounds liek common sense, but it's something you don't necessarily think of on 2 hrs sleep with a screaming newborn, kwim?) I liked our micrwave sterilizer, everytime we stopped using it, she got a cold or something, we continued using it through the first year and loved it!
father's day went to dinenr with ILs and my parents and little brother, had a decent time, though the resturant was abnormally slwo bringing the food. I had Mackie sign all the cards herself, so they got a real kick out of that! :)
Nigellas I am mommy_of_mackie on LJ... need to think of changing my name at someo point if they allow it LOL I think I have seen you in a friend or 2's journals. I would be happy to friend you:)
emermel Try looking at the upside to living close to your ILs. It is possible they can be a valuable resource over the next several months. Free baby sitting, they can come over to help and give you time to rest in the early weeks/months, brong food over when you don't feel like cooking or have you ove rso you need not even clean up after, and when your little one is a toddler, they can help an evening or 2 a week by taking a dinenr or 2 out so you can ave a little time to yourself! I have to say, my parents, though I rarely got a long with them before Mackie was born, have been invaluable to have close by the last 3 years. They brought over dipers and wipes and formula and they brought dinenr over or took us out to eat when I did not feel like cooking and money was tight, they supp;ied clothes like crazy for MAckie and constantly coem with books and clothes and games and toys for her too. I am retty sure they plan the same with this little one. PLUS, when I started working late hours, they picked up Mackie every day and brought her home before the d/c closed. Now that I get home earlier, they just do this 2 nights per week to give me a "break" to rest, egt in dr appts, etc and take her out to dinenr with them those nights. They have a carseat in both their cars, each have a set of keys (tthat they only use when we're not home and thye need to get in with MAckie) and they take her places too, the local parks, resturauunts, shopping, etc. They have a blast together and I don't even have to be there, I can be home sleeping :) Many upsides to having family nearby if they are willing to pitch in and offer help. Excellent ide ato take them up on it as needed, too! :)
-------
24 weeks 4days
feeling more and more movement from Logan :) MAckie was able to place her hand on my belly and feel him kick this weekend! She was totally freaking out about it! Squeeling and laughing the whole time! I really got a "kick" out of it! LOL
Starting to make a to-do list in my head, that needs out on paper ASAP. Things need to get done before Logan's arrival. furniture needs moving and changing around, new stuff needs to be bought. Furniture for baby needs to be assembled and out of storage once we make space at home for it, etc.
Plus, people keep reminding me how close we're getting and how certqain decisions need to be made soon - like I need reminding? :P
Anyway, lots happening, lots to come, and lots to do! :)

Hi all,
bottles - I only used Avent, and they worked just fine in the dishwashwer. (Oh, I also put the Medela bottles from my pump in there and they were fine.) The nipples held up well, too. Again, get one of those dishwasher baskets, because you'll use it A LOT! Also, a drying rack is a really good thing to have for when you're handwashing ...
Father's Day - We had a really nice weekend. DH did a lot of yard work yesterday, and I transplanted a bunch of irises, although I'm not sure if I did it right. Oh well. I made DH a pancake breakfast and got him a copy of U2's Rattle and Hum on DVD. His VHS copy has seen better days. Gabe was super all weekend ... just a fun little boy to be around.
I'm off on vacation after tomorrow. Yippee! I need to get out of here.
ttfn,
Jen

marathongirl I love the shot of Claire patting your belly, it's cute beyond words. :D
Michelle I had my copy of BB during our initial crib-looking trip at BRU, nobody noticed.
jeant Yes, it disappointed me too! It was hard to find a suit in my size, so I didn't have much choice in style, but I figure I'll only be wearing it for a few months.
Jenzen Hope you have a fun vacation, I'm counting down the days until mine. :)
Halloween costumes I saw some black-cat sleepers at Target last year and was thinking about getting one. Even if we "miss" Halloween itself, it would be cute to have. The only thing is I probably will not be wearing a costume since I'll be too exhausted from being still pregnant or being a new mommy at that point. This is odd for me since I love costuming, it's one of my favorite hobbies.
Father's day Went to my parent's house for grilled food. I picked up a father-to-be card for DH because I saw it when looking for my dad's card and it was funny.
----
Finished the basement floor! It's nice to have a big project done, well, almost. DH is going to move stuff back into the room when he gets home from work this afternoon. (summer school = half days) Then, I can really start clearing out the spare room.
Thank you Ericka and Michelle for keeping is organized an making such a great hang-out for us in these threads!
dzmattie - Sorry your back pain is so bad! Hope the adjustments help you get through the third tri without too much pain.
Emermel - Good luck with the move! Hope all goes smoothly!
Ericka - Cute outfits!
Nigellas - Hope the shots work well. Hope your husband has a soft touch with the shots too!

We might have gotten our house! They counter-offered a little more than we wanted to pay, but it is to cover a little bit of the 6% we are asking them to put down for us. It is all very confusing, but when it comes down to it we are within a very do-able price range and now we just have to wait for our realtor to call us back after she talks with our loan guy.
This house buying stuff is confusing, but will hopefully be worth it!
I've still been feeling cruddy at night. I just feel very full, like I ate too much, but I usually eat dinner before 6 and I don't really eat after that. I am fine if I can just fall asleep, but sometimes I feel so full I just can't get comfortable.

So...I am such a knob!
My glucose test was supoosed top be today and I compeltely thought it was tomorrow or wednesday, and I had made another appnt to pick up my BM dress (for wedding I'm in this weekend) today. Thankfully I called the doctor's office and they rescheduled me for wednesday. Doesn't help either that yesterday for Father's Day we had pancakes for breakfast, I had cookies for snack and then a very rich chocolate cake for dessert at the in-laws, I totally would have failed my test if it was today!
emermel - i feel you girl...we just moved close to in-laws as well and they...no, MIL, can drive me nuts sometimes! She always wants to come over and "see th house" as if it's changed since she last saw it a week ago :rolleyes:
It's hard to complain though because she does do so much for us, and me especially being pregnant.
But I seriously feel you on the nervousness about her just overnearing when the baby comes!!
Yesterday she asked me "so when are *we* starting to paint the baby's room?". Uhhhh....*we* are not, DH and I are! I told her I'd call her to come see it when we're finished :p
eta: ericka and michelle - excellent job on the thread once again!!! :D
Ericka_Jarett
06-19-2006, 11:09 AM
maplekitty - all the sweets don't necessarily mean you would have failed the test, you may fail the 1 hour but can take the 3 hour and pass it no problem. You'll do fine.
My 24 week belly shot: http://images1.snapfish.com/347396%3B%3B%3A%7Ffp342%3Enu%3D3278%3E943%3E%3A57% 3EWSNRCG%3D3233853%3A53655nu0mrj
Hard to believe if I keep up with my every 2 week schedule, I only have 7-8 more shots left to go. I have officially 16 weeks to go until I am 40 weeks, but could deliver as early as 13 weeks at 37 weeks due to the diabetes. I am voting for him to stay in as long as he needs to be, in order to be a healthy, happy baby.
Thanks for the compliments on the threads everyone. Glad everyone is liking it.

michellerenee the fullness, I think, is gas. I get that like 4 nights out of 7 lately, sometimes even more often. I take Gas-X for it and a Rolaids chew and USUALLY it goes away in the next 20min or so, but I still frequently feel uncomfy till after the bathroom (sorry if TMI). I also have noticed a difference since starting taking colace daily in addition to my fiber, it keeps things goign so there is not such a fullness at any particular time of day kwim?
maplekitty it's easy to fail the 1hr gtt. They are not even bothering with it for me this time, I get the fasting 3hr only. Anyway, either way it really is not a big deal to fail the 1hr, I was once told more than half the people who take it fail it, but most of them then go on to pass the 3hr easily.
---------
speaking of the GTT, I am getting a tad nervous on this. My 3hr test is a week from this Thursday and I am a bit scared I might fail it. I barely managed a boarderline passing last time around. Though this time I weigh less and have been on a sugar-free food plan from my dietician for a while now (since before pg) But my body already does not deal with sugar well. I am a reactive and pre-diabetic hypoglycemic. IOW I could become a full out diabetic easily and quickly at any time :( I try to take better care of myself than I used to, but it is hard keeping track of all the nutrients and amounts of each on a daily basis that I get, etc. I fear I might need to become more strict if I do have GD and I also fear that perhaps if I do get it, it won't go away after pg (like I fear it will be type 2 diabetes masking as GD just cause it finally shows up now or something...) I know I am in danger now and for the rest of my life and it's tough to deal with knowing I can never again have my fave treats whether or not I get GD or type 2 diabetes, etc...
---
Erika do you have GD? or are you a type1 or 2 diabetic? If you don't mind, I have some questions if we coudl talk via PM or email or something?
---
Anyway, the closer it gets to the test next week, the more nervous I am. Last time I reacted horribly and tried to go to work afterwards, they almost called me an ambulance- I was told I was white as a sheet, I could barely stand or walk and they had to bring me a bagel and OJ to help keeping me from passing out at my desk. :P I will be taking the day so I can do all that for myself at home... and I think I will bring some OJ with me to the lab to drink on the way home and have a bagel prepped and waiting for me at home. I am wavering back and forth about asking Rob to stay home with me, but decided he might be more annoying than anything else.
One good thing, I have been trying some sugar free treats occassionally, to try to satisfy my sweet tooth, and every time I try them they make me sick - like upset tummy sick. So I am slowily losing my sweet tooth thanks to the corelation! LOL
------
Here's a question for all: Are you all feeling more stuffed up - like stuffy nose more often through out the day and a lot at night when you lay down? I have been toting a box of tissues everywhere and taking Sinex at night so I can breathe :(

X posted from my lj:
My Ob apt today that was supposed to be a quick check-in ended up being anything but routine. All was going as normal, Doppler check, blood pressure, blablabla, then as we were talking, I ask her “This might sound weird, but I feel like I can feel him “in” my cervix – is that possible? OB gets a weird look on her face and says maybe we should do a quick ultrasound to check my cervix, just in case (she hasn’t been checking since I’ve been seeing the Peri weekly). Cervix is not doing well. It’s down to 1.3 with a ton of funneling. Baby boy is head down and jamming his head into the funnel – so basically, yeah – I was feeling him in my cervix. She calls the Peri and I go to his office where he recommends a cerclage. Tells me I’m still in an ok zone, since I do have some cervix left, but he really thinks we need to do it asap. This from the guy who for nearly 6 weeks now has been pretty adamant about not wanting to do one - so yeah, it’s serious… So cerclage tomorrow morning. If it goes well I might be home that afternoon, though they may keep me overnight. I’m freaked you guys. I’ve read a ton about the risks of cerclages, and how it becomes more risky the further along you get… I just wish it were 2 weeks from now… If something goes wrong tomorrow, it’s just too early… If my water breaks during the surgery, or there is an infection… Crap… OK, I’m not thinking about that right now.
Please keep us in your thoughts

edited to add - nigellas, hope everything goes well tomorrow. thinking lots of positive thoughts for you.
mommy2ml - I swear by Breathe Right strips since I have a lot of congestion, especially at night. they work really well for me, and I like that I don't have to take any kind of medication.
**********************
father's day - my ILs and SIL/BIL came over for brunch; it was a really nice morning. I gave DH the following cute items:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/lawgirl4/preggo/19977_MID_l.jpg
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/0761129774.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
the book was really great - I flagged a few pages that I thought were particularly insightful, and DH got a little choked up. :)
**********************
also wanted to drop off a 3D u/s photo! personally, I find them to be a little creepy, but the tech said that the baby looked great for 23 weeks (apparently, they recommend that people do the 3D u/s closer to 30 weeks, since the baby looks more like a "baby" at that point. Anyway, it was a neat experience, but I think I prefer the 2D images!

(yes, that is the cord around her neck! ugh - just what I wanted to see! though my mom said that's exactly how it was on me when I was born, and my OB said it's nothing to worry about).

Oh crap, Nigellas. Sorry to hear all that. I'll be keeping you and baby in my thoughts and prayers tonight.
mommy2ml - I felt pretty cruddy after the 3-hour last time. Bring a full-fledge meal with you. The nurses fed me a sandwich and fruit and whatever else they could find in the cafeteria last time, and it helped, although I was still wiped out when I got home. Luckily, I had taken the day off to paint the nursery, but I had to sit and watch my mom for a while because I had zero energy. I'd pack a lunch bucket to take along.

nigellas I am thinking of you and praying too! Remember, they have to tll you the rissks, but the worst rarely happens! Try to focus on the positive and know the best is being done for you and your baby :)
lawgirl I must buy some. Haven't used them in a while, but will try anythign at this point! also, I don't think they worry about the cord if it's lose like that, like baby was probably just playing with it inside there or something :) MAckie was born with the cord wrapped full around and was just fine, shwing no signs of distress till the very end (when essentially it was tightening as she dropped down further) but all was really just fine.
Jenzen I was gonna wait till home only cause the lab I am going to is about a mile away from my house, so I cna leave it refridgerated :) I might bring something like a granila bar or something. For me it takes a good 20-30min for anything I eat to kick in though it seems...
Activities for during the 3hr test? I was thinking of getting a bag of activities together. A magazine or 2, a book, a book of Sudoku.... Any ideas for when I get to the point I cannot see straight? I think I slept a while last time, but falling asleep left me with a nasty headache! :P I am just really thankful they only do the 3hr when pg... back when I got diagnosed with hypoglycemia, they made me suffer through the 5hr and I freaking hallucinated through part of that LOL

nigellas You're in my thoughts! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow morning. I hope all goes well :)
Father's day we had a nice Father's Day, went to breakfast with DH and DD and gave him the cute frame we made (got the idea here on CC by the way) he loved it!
Not much else going on here...can't believe we are almost in the third trimester! Although I'm right there with you QuarterCentury, I won't be in the third trimester until end of July either!
I ordered a bathing suit off Old Navy today. I hope I got the right sizes...I couldn't find any I liked in the actual store.

thinking about it... I have another 3 wks to go or so till the 3rd trimester myself, but that's fine, I have been huge for a couple of months now, so I feel it before I am there LOL
People are still acting surprised when I say I am not due till beginning of October. Like they look at me like I should pop any minute :P Just another thing to add to my long list of things to never again say or even think around a pg woman :)

Nigellas - sorry to hear about the cervix, but you know what, you are better off getting it now than possibly going into full labor in 2 weeks (I assume you will be 24 weeks than) because God forbid your baby's growth slowed down and he delivered and was not ready (I know cause Rebekah came at 24 weeks, thought we were safe, but she had a growth slow down from the infection I had and was 2 weeks behind they are assuming) You will still have bedrest, but at least you will be able to be a more confident of going to at least 34 or more weeks with the cerclage. I will be praying for you, I know it's a scary thing to think about. My peri said that 80-90% of women with cerclages go to full term with no problems at all, they may even put you on antibotics for a few days to help prevent infection (could always ask about that) My doctor gave me some to take 2 days before the procedure and 3 days after. They want nothing but the best for you and your baby, as hard as it is, just try to stay calm and relax as much as possible. Here is a thread if you have a question or want to get others feelings about their cerclages: http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=18242
me - I go for another vaginal u/s to make sure things are good with my cervical ring and we don't need to go to a full cerclage. Hubby is going with me, told him he didn't have to but at the same time I feel a little relieved because last time I had to try to decide what to have done and I wanted to talk it over with hubby, but peri said he would do the ring. If I had to get the cerclage it would have to be at 24 weeks he said, it was the safest time. So can use prayers from those that pray, that no cerclage will be needed and we will be good with just the ring for the next 13-16 weeks.
Third trimester, my OB has me down as 2 weeks away, I am technically 3 weeks away though. But since the other thread was over 1000 posts, it was time to close and start new.
For my 3 hour test, my OB's office has a tv in the waiting room, so between watching that and doing word puzzles it made time go by fast. The first hour drug a little, the 2nd flew by and the 3rd was at least faster than the 1st. I took a snack for the car ride to the fast food place across the street when I was done with my test. I wasn't even allowed water at all, so it stunk for me. Glad I don't have to take it again, since they are already treating me as a diabetic.

It's funny how these "trimesters" work. . . because 9 months preggo is only 36weeks (therefore, making me now 6 months because I'm 24w). . . and they usually want women to be what. . . 39-41 weeks pregnant before giving birth? So technically, pregnancy is more like 10 months!! I don't know why they say it's 9 months long--Drives me nuts!!
Anyways. . . .
Nigellas--You will be in my thoughts! Good luck tomorrow!
Lawgirl4--Cool pic, but I sort of agree. . . kind of odd. . . but no worse than the "skeletor" pics in 2-D! LOL.
It seems like everyone is having their GD tests early compared to me. My doc said mine won't be until my 28w appointment. Is that too late? Or is that acceptable? I'm starting to worry about it, because I'm bigger. . . . but I have been tested for diabetes before, and I was on the very very low end (nearer to the opposite of diabetes, which is what, I forget). However, working at a bakery, I know I consume way more sugar than I should. Not to mention, I'm up about ohhhhh. . . . 16 or 18 pounds? All in my thighs and boobs, I might add. . . . :rolleyes:
I have been trying to cut down on my sugar-filled foods, and I notice a huge difference in his kicking. It's waaaaaaayyyyy down. Should I be worried? I'm a huge worrywart, and I'm going to the doc tomorrow, so I'll ask her. But for at least 2-3 weeks straight, I had kicking at regular intervals. . . now it's just every once in a while. Maybe baby is running out of room? My so-called "baby belly" (vs. my tubby tummy!) is measuring pretty small (if you looked at me w/a shirt on, you'd just think I was a big gal), so that makes me worried. UGH!! So much to worry about!!!

I am way behind in here! Darn internet connection was down.
Quartercentury, Congratulations on your healthy Baby!
Marathongirl, those pics of your daughter are adorable!
QOTD, Halloween Costumes, not sure I'll go all out on an actual costume, maybe just an orangish outfit of somesort.
ErickaJarett, that hawaiian print romper is so cute!
Nigellas, I hope everything goes well for you tomorrow!! You'll definately be in my thoughts.
Lawgirl, that 3D pic is so cool! The cord looks like a necklace or a flower lei or something. Lots of babies come out with the cord wrapped around their necks, sometimes more than once around too, and they do just fine. Don't stress too much over it.
Midwesterngal, pregnancy is 40 weeks or roughly 9 months, not 10. The math gets kind of confusing at times.
QOTD, Father's Day, I got my dh a new nice watch and a card. He picked out some really fancy steaks and we had a relaxing evening.
QOTD, stuffed up nose/congestion, I've been stuffed up, congested since I got pregnant. It was a lot better for a while, but now my seasonal allergies are starting to kick in a bit some days and are making it worse again. Mostly its when I'm trying to sleep :rolleyes:
We've been pretty busy this past week. The changing table arrived and we went to put it together a couple of nights ago, but they didn't include any of the screws!! :mad: So they're going to send them to us hopefully by the end of the week. But the furniture was supposed to ship today, so hopefully it did. The room is about ready to just move stuff in and put it away. We got our carseat, a Graco Snugride. I've been fussing and fussing with fabric and patterns for crib bedding and decided that I really don't need to be so stressed about something so simple, so I ordered a crib bedding set from pbk. Maybe I'll make her something major like that when she's older and I'm less hormonal (plus I'm super indecisive and decided I just didn't like it!).
I didn't end up going back to work at all last week since they didn't need me, but I'm scheduled tonight and tomorrow so I'll just wait and see I guess.

GTT: My 1 hour GTT is when I am exactly 24 weeks. My book says they usually do them between 28-32 weeks though.
QOTD, stuffed up nose/congestion: I haven't really been stuffy but today my throat has started hurting and I feel a little sinusy. I think it might be allergies or another cold.:rolleyes:
No update on the house yet. We should hear from the realtor tomorrow.
Tristan has been kicking a lot lately. And I am noticing it in different spots. Before it was just my left side, but now I feel it by my belly button and even down by me cervix and on the back side of my uterus. And of course he kicks into high gear at bedtime.
I guess I'll be getting extra rest tonight since I am not feeling well.

Just in case we end up with a lot of posts (where we are over limit, it's around 1000 posts, we had 1381 in our last thread) will start a part B to the 3rd trimester. Hopefully we can avoid that though, since we will save baby info for the Babies arriving thread.
If it gets over 1000 posts before we get to our baby arriving thread...don't worry too much about it, we can ride it out until the next thread. It's basically a guideline to keep *rally big* thread sizes down, but in this case where we have the threads broken into trimesters etc, you've got my permission to just keep it going until the baby arriving thread ;)
ps: and thank you for being so good about following our rules :)

Nigellas, hope everything is going well!
Lunar months and calendar months are different... so it is 40 weeks, 10 calendar months, 9 lunar months. I had it figured out quite well last time, this time I just totally forgot again LOL Or maybe it is 10 lunar months and 9 calendar months.... I got pg in Jan. 9months later, I should deliver early October, approx 9 calendar months. But as for lunar months, being precisely 4 weeks long, that is 10 months (40 divided by 4) so at 24 weeks I am 6 lunar months along, BUT approx 5.5 calendar months. and if that is not so totally confusing, I do not know what is ;) LOL
Lots of kicking and rollign going on here. I forgot how weird it feels when the movements and kicks start getting above the umbillicus (bellybutton) it feels so funny :)
We finally got our new door alarm in and installed, so now I can sleep better at night :)
We really need to start getting the place cleaned up and in order for Logan. We have no space now! Must go through a bunch of stuff and put more in storage before stuff for the baby can come out and get reassembled! And IKEA shopping is necessary.
Oh, we seem to be just about all set with newborn/0-3 clothes. 2 big boxes full of them, with a big bag of 3-6, 6-9, 6-12 sizes. Maybe a couple of packs of onesies and gowns or something, but we still havemore stuff coming from friends of ours, so I am done buying stuff before really startiung! LOL I bought some bibs this weekend, that is all I have had to buy. I feel majorly lucky!
More later!

I have a question for you girls...
We are considering the name Mark...at first we wanted to spell it Marc, but after having subconsciously written the name in DH Father's Day card as Mark, we have been second guessing ourselves :rolleyes:
We were going to use Marc b/c it's the French spelling and my background is French/German, although Mark is the German spelling.
And it is a family name (Mark). We figured it is a more popular name but spelling it Marc would make it a bit different. But will he have to correct people his whole life and say "no, it's Marc with a 'c'"?
Just curious to see what other people's thoughts are...maybe someone's thought of a reason I haven't...TIA :)

Nigellas, thinkingk of you today!
nutter, hmm, I like both spellings, Marc and Mark! Its not much help, but they both look good :)
The whole weeks vs. months thing gets confusing. If you count it out, it kind of makes more sense -- one week is 7 days, two is 14 days, 4 weeks is 28 days, but 28 days really isn't a calendar month unless its Febraury, the extra two or three days of all the other months add up so it does make a bit more sense that 40 weeks is roughly nine calendar months. Not exact, but close enough.

NigellasI've been thinking of you today and hoping all is going well.
I had my appt. today. My BP was 132/84, my 24-hour urine was normal. He is not cutting back my work hours yet, but I have to check my BP every day and if the diastolic (bottom number) gets above 90, he'll start meds and have me cut back my hours. I have to go back in 2 weeks and will have another u/s at 28 weeks to make sure the baby is still growing well. The heartrate was 160 today, and the baby kicked the doppler while he was listening. :)
My next appt. is 7/6, u/s 7/18

nutter I am forever correcting people on the spelling of my name and my DD's name. It never really bothers me to be honest. I also lean more towards the less used, or more unusual rather than mainstream myself, but that is a matter of preference I think. Personally I like the c spelling myself, but the k is nice too :) I think there are pros and cons to unusal or different spellings and you should just go with whichever you both like most :)
pamela ITA, between wees, months and lunar months it just seems easier to go by weeks, which no one ever asks about! :P I tend to just translate my weeks into lunar months for a quick answer when people ask how far along I am... so right now I tell people 6mo when they want to know what month I am at.
swelling... the last week or so I had been able towear my wedding band again, then this morning I wke and my finger was too swollen, so I switched back to my pg band... now this afternoon, I have to work at keeping this thing from falling off my finger! I guess the swelling went away again?
Also, something I noticed yesterday - I was walking perfectly normal in the morning, but when I was leaving work in the afternoon I noticed I was doing the waddle walk! LOL
So it seems my fingers swell more inthe morning and my feet swell more in the afternoon to evening... makes sense I suppose... :)
What is really funny to me is that last pg, I was wearing this pg band from around 4mo and on and it fit me perfectly... so I guess I am swelling less this time.. interesting further since DD was a Jan baby and I was not very pg during the summer, now summer is just starting and I am freakin huge, but having less swelling?

Kerry You and the little one are in my thoughts. I hope everything goes as well as possible and the cerclage does what it's supposed to, without causing any additional problems. And, try to stay as positive as you can, I'll send you lots of happy vibes.
MichelleRenee Almost there! It'll all be figured out before you know it.
Mommy2ml Definitely more congestion overall. Usually the first thing I do in the morning these days is head over to the tissue box.
MidwesternGal My OB doesn't do the glucose test until at least 27 weeks. So, it looks like we'll be about the same # of weeks at our tests.
nutter Being a person with an "alternate" spelling of my surname, I can say that Marc would probably be misspelled a lot. But, how much does that matter to you? Having a twist on a more common name may matter more. And, alternate spellings have been big lately.

Well, I survived regisering. Well barely! I seriously was close to breaking down in the middle of BRU because it was so overwhelming! I'm just going to slowly start adding stuff from online once the registry switches from Amazon to BRU. Since I have never had a baby before, I don't know what I need, it was really confusing. Thankfully my DH was there to keep me sane! :)
I hope that everybody is having a good week! :)

michelle - I think the only thing that saved me the first time around wa sthe fact that there was a nice lady by the registry desk... she was also a personal shoppper and informed me that they have free personal shopping assistance available. I made an appt and she walked around with me for a whole hour and helped me figure what was a necessity, what would be nice, and what she had found totally useless for her own 3 kids :) Had I nit had her, it would have been really, really bad! This time I just knew what we no longer have, what I wished I had last tiem and hadn't etc, so it narrows things down a bit :)

Afternoon, all.
Just found out my cousin had her baby about a half an hour ago. She was due on July 15, so that's a little early, but not too bad. Very exciting. My best friend is also due any day, and my sister-in-law is due July 22, so this should be an exciting month. And we're all having girls! What is in the water around here.
I bought our little girl a really pretty blanket from Target. It's so soft and has green, pink and white stipes. A coworker brought in his twins (a boy and girl) and the girl had this blanket. Every since I saw it, I've been keeping my eyes out for it. Just had to buy it ...
Everything else is fine. Baby is kicking a lot today after having a lazy day yesterday. Oh, and let me just give a big "Yeeeouch" for all of us having round ligament pains. Those suckers hurt!

So far, as for feeling Robyn move it's always been a "popping" feeling....like popping popcorn in my tummy. Hard to describe, but not actual "kicks" yet. Well just right now I felt her actually flip from one side to the other. My upper abdomen actually moved!! I could see it from the outside as she flopped over to the other side of my tummy! So weird!! Very cool feeling.

My cousin is in Upper Michigan, my best friend is currently in North Carolina (she's staying with her parents while her DH is in Afghanistan ... he's going to miss the birth :( ) and my sister-in-law is about an hour and half away. But, we do what we can do, right?

nigellas I am, and will be, thinking of you. I hope everything goes well. It makes a lot of sense to do the stitch and try to go as long as possible before delivery. My best to you.
nutter Looks like I'm in the minority, but I'd favor the more common spelling (Mark). It's much less likely he will have to correct the spelling and it will be easier for everyone. We are considering Katherine for our baby, and if we use it we will use that spelling specifically because it is the most common. Again, I'm in the minority, but I don't like the trend toward "unusual" names and spellings. They seem to favor "uniqueness" and "individuality" over ease of use and the perception of others. Yet a name is by definition a social thing. Well, I guess it makes sense I'd think this, since I wrote a book that's partially a critique of hyper-individualism!
I've been meaning to ask -- Does anyone have any girl hand-me-downs? I'd be happy to pay for shipping. Just thinking there might be a few since some of the ROs with girls are having boys this time!

Finally in from my appts. My cervix is open on the inside about 1 cm, but closed outside so that was good. The membranes are trying to push through. The cervical ring is holding well so the doctor was happy about that. I go back in 2 weeks for a check again and have to take anti cramping meds for a few days to help my bag of water shrink a little and the baby not make so much urine. The baby weighs about 1 lb, 7 oz and is about 5 days ahead of schedule. I am on bedrest now as well, so not much of anything but couch time for me. We just got a laptop for me so I can pass the time on the boards and researching other stuff.
I go in 2 weeks for my peri and OB appt where I will have my antibody bloodwork done, than 2 weeks later will get my 28 week rhogam shot.

Michelle - thanks for updating the thread earlier. Sorry to hear it was so hard registering. When we went it took us about 3 hours to get most of the stuff we wanted on there. I actually mentioned how I would love to be one of the personal shopping assistants, we have researched so many travel systems and car seats while looking around. Best thing we did was just start at the big stuff and we left lots of the little items for another trip. I just put all kinds of things on my registry that I liked an when I got home would check reviews and decide if it stayed or not. We had 3 baby gates on this time around, the one we read the hinges break after a few weeks of use so we took it off. So right now we have a more expensive gate and one of the less expensive ones. I can look up my registry if you want to get an idea of what we went with after much reviewing of products. I know several walk around with the Baby Bargains book but sometimes what is suggested is no longer made so you have to choose different anyway.
me - I got a notice for jury duty for the end of July, I am writing them back with a can't do, because of a high risk pregnancy on bedrest. I have a call into the OB to get a letter to send with the notice, you need to have backing by a doctor. Probably won't get called again because will be a SAHM, plus we probably won't be living here anymore.

Just a quick post to let you all know I'm back and we are doing ok from the surgery - Dr said he was glad we did it today as there was barely any cervix left to stitch- yikes! It's a bit hard to type completely lying down (which I'm on orders to do), so I'll try and update more later. Thanks so much to all of you for you thoughts! :)

Nigellas, hang in there! I am glad everything went OK today!
Ericka_Jarett, jury duty... yuck! I hope the process of getting out of it goes quickly for you! I worked with a guy whose wife was due the week he was supposed to start jury duty and he had to make about a million phone calls just to get it rescheduled!
Michelle, I am the same way!!
Nutter, I like both spellings and I think either way he'd have to correct some people.
Jenzen01, you have girls popping out like we have boys popping out!! (we'll have 5 boys in 10 month in my circle fo friends/family)

Thanks MichelleRenee - I know I shouldn't have any trouble getting out of jury duty.
Nigellas - glad to hear that your procedure went well. Good thing you got it done now. Don't feel bad about the bedrest, I am right there with you, I am on bedrest until further notice, most likely peri will want me to stay on it for at least 13 weeks til 37 weeks.
Me - we have a wedding this Friday and than the following week we will probably head to NY for a quick visit with mom, she asked me if we had a name picked out, told her we are not set on a name yet.

Ericka--I got called for jury duty too! For July, Aug, Sept. But it's back in my parents county. . . which is 180 miles round-trip!! Yikes!! I filled out a form and mailed it back--but I never heard back if I'm excused. . . . so I think I'll need to call and find out.
Nigellas--Glad to hear you're home!
Rippy--Sorry to hear about the failed 1-hour! I got my instructions from the doc today about mine next month. She told me it was in the instructions not to fail!! LOL!! I'm kind of worried!! Good luck to you on the 3-hr!!
Nutter--I'm in the minority, but I prefer the "traditional" way of Mark. I had a friend named Andrea. . . you'd think it was pronounced ANN-Dree-Ah. . . but instead she pronounced it AHN-DREA-AH. She would get soooo mad if people misprounounced her name. . . but how were they all supposed to know?? So I guess for me, listening to her complain all the time, I would go with a more traditional spelling/proununciation for my child's name if I had a choice.
_______________________
Had my 24 week appointment today. All went pretty well. My bp is only 90/62! We discussed circ, bc after baby (I'm thinking IUD), and of course, my fav topic. . . pain meds for delivery!! LOL. I had to have a NST run because baby hasn't been moving much lately, and what with my scare two weekends ago, they wanted to be sure all was well. It is--he has moved waaaay high, and is now behind all of the placenta, so I don't feel him as much. Oh--and the best news of all--I got a month's supply of prescription heartburn meds!! YAY for no more heartburn!!!
We *think* we finally came up with a name--Jacob and we'll call him Jake. I am not a huge fan of Jacob. . . but LOVE LOVE the nickname Jake. What do you all think? Let me know your honest opinions!!
That's about it for here. . . . Oh, and I was only up about 3 pounds, so that is good!! Last month it was 6. . . so I was happy.
ETA: TMI New QOTD:: Anyone else having problems shaving "down there?" I can barely see the area, and don't want to nic myself. . . but can't quite bring myself to having DH do it (at least, not yet!). Any solutions/suggestions?

Probably won't get called again ...
I've been called for jury duty twice since I've been living in the UK - don't they see where they are sending my absentee ballots?! I think it just depends on whether your county uses an automated system to send out the "calls" or if there is actually a real person going through the records.
QOTD: Not having any problems with "bikini area" maintenance yet. But we'll see what happens the next time I want to wear an actual bikini! (The maternity tank suit I have been wearing for lap swimming is very forgiving, as it were, in that area.)
Jeant - As part of a swap, I received a box full of mostly girly newborn baby clothes, and we don't know if our kid is a girl! We already have a lot of newborn sized unisex stuff, so I'd be happy to send you some of what I have. Let me know if you're interested.

Michelle.........I totally was thinking the same thing exactly! I find this time to be much harder than it ever was with my girls and the whole being "shaped" differently is sooo true! Glad I'm not the only one :p
Nigellas - Glad to here you're back and that they were able to do the surgery! Take it easy!

I had my appt. on Monday. Everything's looking good. My b/p was down at a good level this time which was good. I scheduled my next u/s for 7/14 and my next dr's appt 7/18. They're going to check his growth for the u/s. I'm excited to see him again :) I'm eager to try and get a second *peek* at his goods, just to make me feel better about him being a *him*....even though the u/s tech said 95% sure when she looked.
I have to get my 1 hr. GTT before my next appt. (specifically 27 weeks) so that's the only other thing that I have to do.
***** By the way, I haven't been in here since the new thread started and I have to say how AWESOME this thread looks. I love what you have done! We have the best threadmistresses by far! ;)

I won't be called again for the simple fact we most likely won't be living in NJ come next year. Plus will get out since I will be the primary care giver for our baby. I talked to the nurse at the Doctor's office and she is going to get a letter ready for pick-up so I can be excused. I have lived at my brother's house as a registered voter for almost 10 yrs (except for 3 yrs when I lived on the west coast). My mom was never called when we lived a county away, the one time she got called it was for the county I live in now, so she was excused. My dad was always called but excused everytime due to work, once he retired they got him about 2 months after so he had to serve, but it was more just calling in, they had no cases. I served once before I was just out of high school for 2 yrs and had to serve 3 days and was the foreperson, beings I was the first one called.
Midwestern - we don't have to serve if it's not the county we live in, my mom just wrote on the summons and called the court and told them she didn't live in that county and she was excused.
GTT - is really not that bad. The 3 hour you just need to make sure you have something to keep you busy. My OB asked me about the test yesterday since I am 24 weeks. I told her that I didn't think I needed it again since I am already being treated for diabetes, she said that's right, you get out of it. She didn't mention the antibody testing or Rhogam, but my last OB already gave me the weeks to do that so it's ok. If you do fail the 3 hour GTT, feel free to ask questions. I have been on just diet to control my diabetes, the doctor said my numbers have not been bad. Of course hoping they stay good even with the bedrest. Since I can't go out and walk like I had been doing. One advantage was I lost 10 lbs durig the first 3 weeks.
shaving - I can still do it pretty easily. Worst is that can't really see it but can feel where there is hair left. Hubby has offered to do it when needed
My appt yesterday was such a pain with the u/s. Hubby came in the little room with me, had the tech and a student, well hubby had to stand up to look at the screen (the small tv was not working) and I didn't even get to look at the screen as it was down too far for me to see it and tilted to the student some. The doctor came in for the vaginal u/s and so as hubby put it last night you had 4 people checking you out, was like yeah, thanks. Funny I have female OB's to feel more comfortable, but this peri has seen more of me than my OB's. When I delivered last year I had the on-call doctor deliver me and he was a complete stranger so at least I don't really have to have it as a specific doctor for delivery.
kenswife and everyone - thanks for the compliments on the new thread. Now with bedrest I have lots of time to try to keep up :)

Nigellas Glad everything went well, hope the time during bedrest goes quickly for you!
RippyI'm sorry you failed the 1 hr GTT, hopefully you'll pass the 3 hr. with flying colors :)
Jeant We have tons of girl clothes but we wanted to hang onto them until the baby arrives, I've heard one too many stories about having been told it would be a boy/girl and then come out the opposite sex! If you'd still like I'd be happy to send what we have in October :)
QOTD That's why I'm looking for suits with either shorts or skirts :D
Thanks for all the comments on Marc/Mark, we still haven't settled but I guess we have a little time left to decide. I guess if we went with Marc, it wouldn't seem like an alternative spelling to our French relatives since that's how they spell it anyways...:)
Just wanted to add, I'm still worried about all this leaking I've been having, and I know I can't keep calling the Dr., When we went to the hospital 2 weeks ago to get checked everything was fine, and at my appt. last week the u/s results said the fluid levels were fine as well. Sorry if TMI, but I will smell it and it smells like urine, it's just worrisome. I've been drinking lots of water to avoid getting all the b/h I was having and it has definitely helped, but not with the leaking situation, it's made it worse. I think sitting at my desk doesn't help either, b/c sometimes it makes it hard to tell that I actually have to go really bad when I stand and that's when I notice I'm more wet! I imagine being pregnant in the summer won't help since we'll most likely be more sweaty and wet feeling down there anyways...thanks for letting me put my worries into words, it seems to help calm my nerves. I was hoping to get in to see the OB before we left for the beach in 3 weeks, but they won't let you come in before 4 weeks unless something is wrong. And they'd have to send me to the hospital since they don't have the high tech u/s machine in the office to measure fluid levels....I can't wait until the baby is here and I don't have to worry about every little symptom and pain I get anymore!

Midwesterngal - I love the name Jake, why not just name him Jake?
qotd: shaving - yup!! totally "flying blind" these days, LOL Thankfully after all these years, I just seem to know where everything is, lol, and I can do it blind for now. I've never had a bikini wax before, yikes, I'm afraid to if it gets too hard to handle myself!! :p

GTT is this afternoon, MIL is driving me since DH has a work professional day and has to be gone all day. Oh well!
Also finalized the date of my shower with my bff!! :D August 6th! We're having a co-ed BBq party at our house (it's the biggest and best location for everyone).

Maplekitty, isn't it neat to see/feel them move around so much?! Yesterday I saw her big 'ol head move clear across my tummy!
ErickaJarett, Yay for getting a laptop! I don't know what I would have done without mine.
Nigellas, glad to hear your cerclage went well!!
Midwesterngal, I really like both Jacob and Jake!
Nutter, it sounds like the leaking you're having is just urine. Your OB should be able to easily check it to make sure.
QOTD, shaving, no problems with it, but mostly I'm lazy and just don't bother as often these days.

Thank you to everyone for the complements on DD :)
Jenzen congrats to your cousin on the new baby!
Jeant Most girl stuff already went to ebay, but I will check.
Erika Hope all keeps going well! Definitely get a note from the doc, last time I serrved on a jury there was a pg lady there with me who had to serve anyway, but since you're on bedrest they should let you out of it :) With bedrest you can still go to the wedding and come to NY? Just make sure you get tons of rest and relax, ok? and if you're in the Queens LI area, maybe we can get together for lunch or something? :)
Nigellas I already responded in your LJ, glad all went well!
midwesterngal Love the name Jacob/Jake, I agree though, if you prefer Jake, why not use that as the full name?
shaving I did not have issues with it really last time, since I got big in the fall/Winter I never had to worry who'd see me "unkept" LOL Now I am definitely having issues though :p
Nutter Kegels exercises can help a lot withthe leakage, it can reduce, even stop it atogether, at least the par that is bladder leaking. The clear discharge probably just adds to it and is normal throughout the pg though. Try doing Kegels every day and you should see an improvement soon. Poise makes a pantyliner that is thin as a regular liner, except more absorbent. I might be looking into those soon myself! :)
----
Me - all ok, just feeling more tired more easily, and a big return of the gas and reflux lately that I had not been noticing as much in the 2nd trimester. Definitely need more sleep and rest all the time, regardless of how much slep I get at night. Also getting more and more uncomfy at nigts, harder to get to sleep and stay asleep... 1-3 pottty runs per night lately too.
We bought a door alarm and it works well, so now I feel I can go to sleep early even if DH is out late and not worry so much - bad dreams were making me paranoid kwim?

Michelle I'm not looking forward to starting the registry after how long our wedding registry took. Maybe we'll do it in 2 trips.
Rippy Hope you pass that 3 hour!
maplekitty I think the "popping" is a great way to describe it. I figure the hardest bumps I feel must be the kicks, the rest is probably flips and hands.
Ericka Glad to hear the ring is holding up. Hope your bedrest time passes by quickly.
Kerry Glad to hear you're doing ok after the surgery. I hope it works as desired!
MidwesternGal If you really prefer Jake, why not just skip the Jacob? My coworker named her DD Kate instead of Katherine, and I'm sure she's not the only one who's done the short name naming thing. (I think both are cute though!)
Shaving It has been more difficult, so I really don't do it unless I need to, like for a bathing suit. Otherwise, it's skipped.

mommy2ml -actually it would be NY State. May see if my brother is going to head up and have him take the car and when he comes back he will have my dad's truck. We will get the car on another trip if we need to. Hubby doesn't want me to drive or go out anywhere alone.

It's been a crazy 24 hours! I picked up DD from my parents house and brought her home yesterday afternoon. Our cats don't do well in the heat - even with the A/C running. So there was cat puke all over the dining room. DD decided not to sleep last night and today our hot water heater went. At least they will be here to install a new one tomorrow. The joys of being a homeowner :rolleyes:
One of the women in my MOMS Club who was due on 7/20 had her baby today. A little on the early side but everyone is healthy.
nigellas - glad things went smoothly!
midwesterngal - I also like the name Jacob/Jake. I'd consider it if we have a son, but one of my friends had an iguana named Jake and I'd never hear the end of how I named my kid after her lizard :rolleyes: .
nutter - I'd call your OB anyway if you're concerned. I'd rather suffer the embarassment of being told I had a leaky bladder than to find out something was wrong.
registering - is very overwhelming! I'm glad I don't have to do that again except for a few tiny things in case my mom throws a 'meet the newest baby' party after K2 is here.
shaving - after a while I just gave up. But man what a scary sight after I gave birth and could see past my belly again!:D
Hello to everyone else!

Had my GTT test today...the orange drink was not as bad as I imagined. It was fizzy ( i thought it was just going to be syrupy), so the carbonation really helped it go down easier, and it really wasnt as much as I thought.
My MIL drove me and stayed with me, just in case I was light headed afterwards. I was fine.
Also had a OB visit. BP was excellent, baby's HB was 144 and I hadn't gained any weight since last visit - yay me!
Will find out in 48 hrs if I pass or failed my GTT.
My next appnt is July 19th

So here's a question for you RO's: At what point did you, if ever, start losing your balance? I have fallen twice in the last month--and from only just walking!! Tonight, I sprained my ankle fairly nastily; it hurts and its hard to walk. I know my MIL said her balance went haywire towards the end of her pgs, arond 30 weeks or so. But I'm only 24w!! Of course, I'm a klutz anyways. Anyway, I just want to know if I'll eventually get balanced out. . . or if I should just give up. . . . :rolleyes:
Maplekitty--good luck on the GD test!! And congrats for not gaining any weight!

Nigellas: I'm glad the procedure went well, and I hope bedrest goes quickly for you!
MidwesternGal: I officially gave up heels at work this week after I twisted my ankle in my driveway on Tuesday. Nothing serious, but I was limping around for a few days.
Kegels are also really important to strengthen the perineum area for pushing. When I was PG with DS, DH sent me a daily reminder to do them! Now I need to remember to do them with baby brother!
I really feel pregnant the last 2 weeks. I'm clutzy, tired, & constantly hungry. I think I was so busy traveling & moving this spring, I now have a chance to realize what is going on. This morning, DH literally made me promise to slow down & decompress .

I thought I had posted in this thread already, but I guess not...I haven't been getting the notifications and have missed you all!
I have a QOTD and I hope it's not TMI: Are you successfully DTD? :o The last few times we've tried, it has HURT! I can't decide if it hurts because I'm just not interested or if there's some other reason?
Ericka_Jarett
06-22-2006, 10:01 AM
QOTD - Last time we did it I was not very interested. Once we reached about 21 weeks we put it on hold because of being close to the time of my infection last pregnancy. Well at 22 weeks was told no DTD because of my cervix and well now that I am on bedrest it's out of the question. Poor hubby, he is so understanding though

This is quite embarrassing to say, but I'm just going to come out with it. Since about the 3rd month of pg, we have not been able to do this successfully. A couple times we tried, and it really hurt. I also didn't know if it was from disinterest, or because of positioning, or what. Poor DH. :( I haven't been very interested at all, and he hasn't tried since the last "malfunction". :o

QOTD I avoid the issue at all costs. I feel a little bad for DH but not bad enough. My RE had told me not to for the first 12 weeks (love her), then we have tried a couple times since with success for him and complete discomfort for me.

I know it's been forever since I posted here. I tried once awhile ago and it got cut off from the site being too busy. Then our computer crashed and it's been crazy since then. I am on a laptop right now and we have a new computer on the way. When that arrives and is hooked up I will do updated belly shots and ultrasound pics.
Congrats to everyone that I missed saying so for finding out the sex. Crazy to see that they boys finally took the lead.
To everyone that is having some difficulties, you are definately in my thoughts and prayers. I admire you for being so strong.
As for me, we have picked a name for our little girl. It will be Kendall Renne. We are very excited and I swear between our mothers along she already has a bigger wardrobe collection than me.
I'm feeling okay, still probably too paranoid. I'm feeling her a lot lately and last few days I wasn't as much. So of course that called for a worry session. But she must have been tried from traveling for vacation (we just got back Sat night) and decided to rest a bit. Because she's back up to her usual vigor.
Anyways, I won't post too much in one post. I'll just try to keep up more often now.
As for Updates:
Can you change my age to 27 (had my bday on Tuesday) (Which wasn't fun because I had to sit at home by myself while DH had to work.) Oh Well.

Oh I also wanted to answer the last QOTD:
RE: doing the deed lately. I am sad to say I am among the rest of you. Either just don't feel like it or don't feel good period. I swear between the heartburn at night and horrible hip and back pain, it's the last thing from my mind. I need to bring my DH on this sight and let him see that it's just not me. Of course the only info he every saw was the one where women in their 2nd trimester are hornier than H E double hockey sticks if you know what I mean. So of course I've been the ONLY ONE that doesn't want to (according to him at least.) Oh well he is being very understanding (if you count understanding as asking for it everynight.)

Just a quick checkin before we fly out for a mini vacation. DH is super worried about being on the plane but I think it will be fine.
Maple: Congrats on the weight, good luck with the GDD. Mine is next week so I'm happy to hear the drink isn't too bad.
Roxy: Love the name, very chic
DTD: I'm in the same boat, just not interested. DH has been very understanding.
In other news My Sister just found out she is expecting #2. They had been trying for about a year so this is great news. She's due in the end of Feb and already tired and pukey, poor thing. Its especially hard on her becuase I have really had no symtoms to speak of. But it will be great to have a cousin so close in age.
Have a great weekend!

qotd Am I the only one who is still enjoying DTD?? DH and I usually manage it several times a week. In the first trimester I was not interested, but once I "gave in" a few times, I found myself interested again.

Midwesterngal I agree with the other thoughts -- if you like Jake, you could just go for that. Might actually be easier, because then his "real" name and the name he goes by would be the same. Only reason we are leaning toward Katherine instead of just Kate is Katherine sounds better with the middle name we are considering (Grace, which was my grandmother's name). Anyway, it's an idea.
nutter Sounds good on the clothes! I understand what you mean. This was awhile ago when u/s weren't as good, but my cousin had been told she was having a girl and had a boy. ("Does this mean I can tease him about the size of his penis?" asked my other cousin.) Though I think it's more common to hear girl and get boy than vice versa. Usually when they say boy they have seen something & when they say girl it's because they didn't. But maybe it was hiding. They do that. :)
I have a little bit of a non-sequitur QOTD: What do you eat for lunch? I have a hard time figuring this out every day. I am curious what other people eat.

I had an OB appointment today, it was a good one. The nurse was surprised that all she had to do was poke my belly with the doppler and and my dumb uterus totally scrunched up :rolleyes: Its such a darn irritable thing. She had a hard time getting the heartbeat for more than a few seconds because little girly here was moving around too much (I swear, every time I lay down she is just all over the place!). I'm going to the lab to do my GTT first thing tomorrow morning. I'm not a fan of really sweet things so I'm not really looking forward to it too much.
Maplekitty, I hope my sugar drink tomorrow is carbonated and orange flavoured! That sounds like it would help counteract the sweetness.
Roxygirl, Thats a beautiful name! I have days where my kiddo is really quiet every now and then, I just figure she's having a growth spurt and conserving energy or something.
QOTD, lunch, I swear, lunch has got to be my least favourite meal! I can never think of anything that really sounds all that great. I often end up starting with some toast with peanut butter and then having some yogurt or something else a bit later.

jbemommy Looks like we got married on the same weekend. Happy anniversary to you, today!
DTD Last time we tried, I was pretty sore afterwards and it squished my belly, so no more of that position. Well, I haven't had much interest either. For now, I want to wait until my possible infection is taken care of, so nothing for DH on our anniversary weekend!
Lunch I'm boring most of the time. I take a Lean Cuisine to work and have it with a yogurt. Not the most exciting thing ever, but it's quick and easy and nobody in my department really goes to lunch together.
---
Yesterday I noticed I was getting some watery discharge, oh how fun. So, first thing this morning, I called the nurse and she had me come in this afternoon. OB took a swab, but didn't think it was anything to really be concerned about. The culture will come back on Monday, and if there's an infection, I'll probably get antibiotics or something. The cervix was high and closed, so that made me happy.

Lunch is kinda crazy for me. I eat pretty constantly between breakfast and lunch. I always have a peanut butter sandwich for a snack and I keep peanuts and granola bars in my desk. When lunch time actually rolls around I either eat a sandwich I packed or go out. When I go out I usually choose pasta or a big salad. Yesterday I had a cup of chili and a small salad and it was like the best meal ever! (I feel that way after every meal!)
I try to make my lunch as healthy as possible and I try to make sure I am getting vegetables and protein with my lunch. It's the biggest meal of the day for me so I try to get a little bit of everything, actually.

QOTD: DTD: Poor DH! I haven't touched him in about ohhh, 2-3 weeks? I'm definitely not interested at all. We have some lube to help. . . but I don't really want anything to do with it. Of course, DH is on the couch 4-5 nights a week now (because I take up the WHOLE bed, trying to get comfy and what not!), so clearly, we don't do it those nights. . . though the last time I gave in, I did have a good time. . . :o
Lunch--Lunch is a "bad" meal for me. I do well at breakfast--usually cereal, apple, and yogurt. And supper is *fairly* healthy unless DH cooks. But lunch is whatever I can grab quickly--I come home starving and smelly from work, and don't want to wait until I shower to cook something, but don't want to stay all donut-fryer smelling until it's ready, either. Usually I grab a cold meat sandwhich of some sort.
Pamela--I get nervous when I don't feel the baby for a day or two, also. It's weird not to feel him after he is up all night for 3 weeks straight!
Nothing new here. My legs are tired from limping around all day.
We're not sure on naming him the nickname, but we'll think about it.

Pamela--I get nervous when I don't feel the baby for a day or two, also.
I haven't had a day since about 16 or 17 weeks where I don't actually feel her at all, but some days every now and then she's just a bit quieter and more mellow, as opposed to her usual soccer tournaments whenever I lay down or stop moving.

TaterBaby - enjoy your massage!
maplekitty - I didn't think the glucose drink was too bad either. I thought I was weird since all I ever heard was how bad it was. I thought it tasted like slightly flat orange soda.
Roxygirl - beautiful name!
jbemommy - happy anniversary!
bubelah - enjoy your mini vacation!
DTD - well DH has been out of the country for a month, so even if I felt like it, it would have been impossible. Honestly, sex is really the furthest thing from my mind, but I feel bad for DH. I try and do it for him, but he knows I'm not really interested and am pretty uncomfortable, so we're not very successful :( .
lunch - usually just milk, crackers, and fruit. Sometimes I'll splurge and get a Rita's gelati.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Lunch - usually leftover from dinner the night before, if not sometimes cereal.
The orange drink is not that bad, it's better than the fruit punch one. You drink the thing so fast you don't really even taste it. Just have to make sure it's super cold.

QOTDs:
On the sex front, we were living in different countries for weeks 6 to 20 of the pregnancy, so we've got some making up to do. ;) Pretty much that whole time, I was having a lot of erotic dreams, even when I was feeling disgusting. Now, I am enjoying sex, but I wouldn't say it's that mythical extra fabulous sex you hear women in their second trimester have. But, I am really tired the second half of the day, so I need to be "caught" at the right time or I will just pass out.
For lunch, if we have leftovers from a previous dinner, I will bring those to work. If not, I tend to buy a sandwich from the deli around the corner. (Gasp! Deli meat! Call the pregnancy police right now! :p ) Today I have leftover pizza from last night. Sometimes I bring lunch, eat it, and am hungry again at 3pm, so end up having to buy a sandwich anyway!
On an unrelated note... Last Thursday was 10p listing day on British ebay, so yesterday there were a lot of good deals to be had. My cloth diaper collection is growing! Size 0 Kissaluvs and this All-in-One:

Just checking in before the weekend. I'm so happy it's Friday. My plan this weekend is to paint, paint and paint. I didn't end up painting the girls' room b/c it was close to 90 degrees! So, I'm going to attempt it this weekend. We bought ceiling fans w/lights for both of the girls' room and the baby's room. Since we're doing a Red Sox theme in the baby's room, we found a ceiling fan that has bats for the fan blades, home plate for the part that touches the ceiling, a catchers mit holding all the blades together and a baseball for the light. It's all wooden so it's not corny. I love it and I can't wait to put it up today!
Anyway, baby is doing well. I'm tired, as usual but overall I'm feeling pretty good.
DTD - I feel sooo bad for DH. He wants to alll the time. I'm really not all that interested. I never had that problem w/my girls. I do feel like I'm getting more interested as time goes by though so hopefully all will be well soon.
Lunch - This is such a struggle for me every single day! I never feel like anything in particular. I'm lucky enough to work just minutes from home so I go home for lunch. I usually make perogies b/c they're fast. I also like the Green Giant pouches of vegetables so I'll usually make the teriyaki vegetables or green bean casserole and eat the whole thing. Veggies are my THING right now! Love them! I like cucumbers and ranch dressing too. Unfortunately, b/c of a weird fear of germs, I never eat leftovers so I can't ever just *heat something up*.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A funny little story : Yesterday a rep came to our office. I greeted him and we were talking business. He said something to me and I didn't hear him so I kind of looked at him strangely and said, "I'm sorry, what?". His eyes got HUGE like I had said something terrible and he quietly said, "When are you due?". He thought that I had heard him and was offended by the question b/c I WASN'T pg! Poor guy looked like he was ready to crawl into a hole.
I laughed and explained that I hadn't heard him. He said that I had scared him to death!
I've always had the urge to joke w/somebody when they asked that question. I guess I got to do it w/o even knowing though!
balance - I think I lost my balance midway through my 1st pg and have yet to regain it, though it got a bit better in between ;) I wear flats all the time now, since I am so clumsy I do not even want to take a chance. PLUS last summer I sprained my ankle falling down the stairs at home, and since then I have not done heels too well anyway, so just added balance/clumsiness for me :p
DTD The first time with my DD I had vulvodynia. That is moderate to severe pain in the vagina with any and all penetration. We tried a few times and failed cause it hurt too much. It went away a few weeks after giving birth to be replaced with irritation from the 3rd degree tare I got, but that went away too. This time we have done it 2-3 times and no vulvodynia this time around, but still not into it and not too comfy, so we've been goign to sleep early and taking advantage of the rest we're getting! LOL
Lunch - I avoid the Lysteria carrying stuff (deli and lunch meats and any cold meat at all) mainly becasue I know a someone who lost 2 babies in 2 different pregnancies to such food poisonings and I want a healthy baby, so both with DD and now with DS, if I go deli, it's for a hot chicken cutlet or some kind of tuna or egg salad. I love meat, but I also get freaked because I know someone who lost a near full term baby to e-coli and nearly died herself. :P Scary stuff!!!!! Other lunches have been fast food or italian. There is a subway near where I work that will heat the chicken up for me, so I get a cslkiced chicken breast hero with Chipotle sauce and lots of fresh veggies on top - I love their whole wheat bread! :)
update on me
My car died, I spent yesterday getting it to 2 different shops to get it repaired. The first wanted over $800 so we said no way, claled another place and got the repairs for under $250 :eek: Thank goodness! I wound up taking the day off and spending it out all over the place, so that's why no posts from me yesterday.
Been peeing more. Also have this weird small shooting pain right at the base of my pelvic area. Been "leaking" more too. gonna cal the doc, maybe a bladder thing going on. Been a bit itchy there too if you kwim, so could be a double infection - yeast and bladder :P They both happen way more often during pg cause we're more susceptible to it unfortunately... with my DD I had 3 yeast, 1 bacterial and 1 bladder infection spread through the pg. Blech. This time only 1 bladder infection so far, so I suppose I am due for something.
DD actually let me get a good 8hrs sleep last night, so I am thrilled! f course, it just reminds me how much of my exhaustion is really die to pg, since I am still dead on my feet today! LOL
I foudn a new best med for immediate heartburn and gas relief!!! Rolaids Soft Chews plus antigas! They taste ok, plus they take the symptoms away really quick! I have been using them all week and it really helps! I also take a max stength pepcid every night with my meds, but the first and last rimesters are always the worst with that! :P
Hope all is well with everyone!
I have my hospital tour tomorrow
Just back from my 1 hour GTT. It wasn't that bad. I had a choice between fruit punch, orange and one that tastes like sprite. I had the orange, and it tastes just like orange Hi-C (like the orange drink at McDonalds) only sweeter. Not bad at all. I did start feeling dizzy after about 40 minutes though, probably since I hadn't eaten anything since yesterday evening. But it went away and the hour went pretty quickly. I can go pick up my results later on this afternoon.
Quartercentury, great belly pic! That leapard print diaper is really cute!
Hi,
Just got back from the zoo with DD, she had a blast!
Now I'm worried...while DH and her went on a tractor ride some lady came up to me and started talking about how she never came to the zoo when pregnant b/c she was afraid of catching a disease!!
Please tell me I'm worrying for nothing, I didn't touch any of the animals and we washed DD and DH hands before leaving, and mine as well! They even took a bath.
Has anyone else gone to the zoo during this pregnancy??? TIA
06-23-2006, 12:42 PM
I haven't been, but only cause I am afraid to be too tired to walk it all! LOL We might actually go ahead and go this summer anyway cause I know DD would have a blast. As long as you're not petting animals and then putting your hands in your mouth you should be just fine... and to be honest, I would not exactly do that not pg either ;) think of all the people with compromised immune systems, little infants/babies even toddlers that could not go if the zoo were a health hazaard as that woman suggested! LOL
I think you'd get sick easier taking the subway/train or plane somewhere than going to the zoo to be honest :p
Oh, and if it helps, we have a nearby petting zoo/farm museum that we plan to go to this summer too. I plan to sit down a lot, but will be there! :)
nutter: We are members & go to the zoo quite a bit. Quite rude of that woman to give you unsolicited medical advice! I just don't let DS in the petting zoo.
Lunch: One of may fave meals of the day b/c I hate breakfast foods, so I eat minimally in the AM & am starving by 11:30. Plus, I get to decide exactly what I want, not DS or DH. Today I had mexican with a co-worker. :) Sometime I go home & have a sandwich, and I also love leftovers.
nutter - I wouldn't worry about it. My doctor never said I couldn't go (we went a few times since I got pregnant) People just have to stop giving out old information and especially to a stranger just in passing like this woman did to you. These people probably would say how dare you walk around outside, you are breathing in all sorts of germs. We can't live in a bubble, as long as your pregnancy is going good and you aren't putting you hands in your mouth or using the restroom before washing your hands, if you touched the animals, you should be fine.
Thanks girls for making me feel better. DD did pet a baby goat at the end but we washed her hands within 10 minutes...
My anxiety level goes way up when I'm pregnant!! I feel the only way to protect the baby is by protecting myself...I think I may bring up this anxiety though at my next appt. it's really starting to affect me mentally.
Otherwise I've been feeling pretty good, and the baby seems to be doing great, I feel him move everyday now, he has his quiet moments as well, but it is so reassuring to a worry-wart mom!!
kenswife--Your story was quite funny! I'm sure the poor guy was mortified.
Maplekitty--Oh dear!! Maybe you can camoflauge your bruise with a little cover-up? Or is it too big? I bet you'll look cute in your bridesmaids dress! Have a blast!
nutter--I wouldn't worry too much. . . think of all the vets, farmers, farmer's wives who have to be around all kinds of animals when they are pregnant. Just wash your hands and you'll be fine!
Nothing new here. Had only the zillionth person tell me how "small" I look for 24 weeks--it was an older lady that I know, and she kinda yelled it out the car window. . . "Are you sure you're pregnant? Because you don't look like it!" Oy! Having gained around 18 pounds, I definitely think I look pregnant!!! Sheesh!! My mom even said to me that she'll be "interested in seeing my body after the baby." Gee, thanks mom!! What IS it about pregnant women that makes it okay to comment on their bodies???
This weekend will be busy for us. . . . my sister's going-away party (1 month early because that's how it worked out) for the Peace Corp is tomorrow night, and we're doing professional family pictures on Sunday. I'll be curious to see what I look like, since the only couple pics I've taken are in tight t-shirts for "belly shots"--hopefully I don't look too bad!
Have a great weekend everyone!!!
We had a great time our mini-getaway! It was so fun and great to just be away from life for a couple of days.
On Wednesday night for the first time my DH was able to feel the baby for the first time. It was so cool! The baby is just so active now! I feel him mostly in the evening and at night. But he has started to get really active when the kids are loud during the day (I am a preschool teacher). I am just amazed everytime I feel him. It is just the coolest and craziest thing!!
QOTD's-
I have not been interested in DTD at all since getting pregnant. We have a couple times but it just doesn't seem the same. My drive has definitely decreased.
Lunch....it is varied. Sometimes a sandwich with yogurt and carrot sticks. Or a frozen lean cusine with yogurt or some fruit. Or leftovers. I was craving mustard for a long time so I was having turkey sandwiches with tons of mustard for awhile there!
I fear I am too far behind to catch up with everyone so I will stop here. We did get our crib and mattress delivered last night. So hopefully if we do some cleaning this weekend we will get it assembled!
kenswife - very funny story!
maplekitty - have fun at the wedding!
slvspring - glad you had a nice getaway!
nutter - I wouldn't be concerned about the zoo. Just as long as everyone did a thorough handwashing before eating.
Not much else going on with me. DH surprised me and got an earlier flight home from France yesterday. It's good to have him back. He's still got to do some travelling this year, but hopefully it will all be domestic.
People need to get some tact. I was in Target with DD the other day and the cashier told me I should have waited until DD was at least out of diapers before getting PG again.:mad: Like I asked her opinion. Then my mom was so kind to point out to me that I was developing a nice varicose vein on my leg. As if I hadn't already noticed. Thanks mom.:rolleyes:
People need to get some tact.
Yes, people do! Those comments were uncalled for. I get a lot of rude comments too, it seems. One aunt told me I "ruined" my pregnancy by finding out the gender. The comment I get most from strangers is "oh no. Will you still be able to finish high school??" That's just the joy of looking like a teenager. (that and still getting carded when I go to see R rated movies:rolleyes: )
I did have a particularly annoying run-in with someone yesterday. I went to make a payment on our car and the guy asked how far along I am. I told him 22 weeks and he said "oh, 14 weeks to go, eh?" I said "no, 18 actually." He gets all confused and says "but in 14 you'll be 36 weeks. Isn't that the end of pregnancy?" I tried to explain that pregnancy is 40 weeks long but he just started going on and on about his girlfriend and how long she said she had been pregnant with her kids and blah blah blah. I should have just said "yep, 14 weeks!" and left.
SlvSpring, I feel a lot of movement at night and during the day when it is loud too. How exciting to get your crib! I bet you can't wait to set it up!
MidwesternGal, some people tell me how small I am and ask if I am "sure I am pregnant." Others tell me how big I am and ask if I am "sure it's not twins." One lady I know swears that we will all be surprised when I go into labor and twins come out."
maplekitty, why the bruise? I know they do a blood test, but is it a different kind of needle or do you just bruise easily? Have fun in the wedding today!
nutter13, the more I thought about it the more I realized what a dumb comment that was for that lady to make. I agree that the bus or subway, or heck, even the mall would probably have just as many germs.
She-Ra, after reading what you wrote about lunch I had to go get Mexican food!!
Hi all,
I'm "vacationing" at my parents' house for the weekend. Grandpa is out taking DS for a walk, which gives me some time to actually type up a post. LOL. I haven't been able to sit down at the computer without a little someone in my lap wanting to play with the keyboard and mouse.
Anyway, here's my 22-week belly pick. I finally cleaned off my card and got everything uploaded and ordered. Whew. That took me a while.
Also, just wanted to say that I can't believe some of the comments you all are getting. I've had my share, too, but it just goes to show that there when you're pregnant, you're body is fair game for comments.
marathongirl - That comment from the cashier takes the cake.
Oh, I called my best friend yesterday morning because I had dreams about her all night. Turns out she was on her way to the hospital with contractions 6 minutes apart. I sure hope she has a baby by now. I'm waiting to hear from here.
That's all for now. Talk to you all later.
jenzen Love the pic of your DS!! I see a ladykiller in 15 years or so!
Tact I *know*. Both the zoo story and the Target cashier comment are just silly and rude. What is it with people? I guess we have to remember that people are tactless even about non-pg issues. When I was dating DH, I couldn't believe how many people commented that we should get married, even when we'd only been together a few months. My landlord. The waiter at our favorite restaurant. And my favorite, a hotel clerk whom I'd never seen before. I started saying "That's not up to me," as a way to indicate that he would propose when he wanted and it was out of my control (this is very sexist, and I didn't like saying it, but it worked).
Overall it's weird how people are always trying to tell pg women what to do, and so often their advice is either wrong, rude, or hypocritical. A friend of mine was yelled at at a party for eating shrimp (which I found very odd, there is no reason not to eat shrimp while pg.) Another friend said "Should you be eating tuna?" when I mentioned I might get a tuna sandwich at the Denver airport. Of course, this same friend is serving halibut at his wedding (where, BTW, his fiance is pg!), even though that's not all that different from tuna in mercury level.
And even apart from other people's comments, I have found it really challenging to decide how stringent to be on the "what not to eat" question. The lunchmeat thing is a great example of that (not to mention that if we were all worried about e coli, we'd stop eating hamburgers too).
The mercury in fish is another one. Of course I'm not eating swordfish, etc., but what about halibut, mahi-mahi, and ono? (the last two are Hawaiian fish.) All three have some mercury, but only 1/4 to 1/6th of swordfish. If I eat them only once or twice a month, is it OK? I don't know. I had salmon when we went out for our anniversary and I *hated* doing that (I like salmon, but it tastes the same at home or in a restaurant. The three other fish taste different to me when a good chef prepares them instead of bad cook me.) And did you guys hear about the Consumer Reports thing on not eating canned tuna? And about how farmed salmon has PCBs?
Anyway, What kind of fish, if any, are you eating? Are you paying attention to mercury levels? It's so tough because fish is *so* good for you and the baby otherwise (omega-3 fatty acids, for one thing). The advice out there is very conflicting. For example, the Consumer Reports thing said not to eat halibut while pg, yet What to Expect specifically says you can, and a pg mag I have has a *recipe* for halibut. (And this is the same pg mag that says you should wash fruit for a full minute, including a second rinse in soapy water. Yeah, right -- like I'm doing *that*).
And thanks for your responses about lunch! I am glad to see I'm not the only one who has trouble figuring out what to eat then. My plan for this week is to cook up some ground turkey and make tacos out of that for lunch for several days.
What IS it about pregnant women that makes it okay to comment on their bodies???
Seriously! Except the comments I'm getting are the opposite ... about how HUGE I'm getting. :rolleyes: My one coworker says about three times a day "well, by the looks of it, you definitely WON'T be having a small baby". The one day she said it to about 12 different people in a row, and I thought I might kill her. Then, another coworker told me "boy, you're stomach is sure starting to swell up, isn't it?!" Oh, really?! I hadn't noticed the watermelon attached to the front of me! Then, my poor dad ... I know he's trying to be sympathetic and empathetic ... it just comes out the wrong way. I walked into the back yard one day and he exclaims "wow! Look at your feet and ankles! They are really swollen. There huge! Then, he proceeds to poke at them and ask if it hurts." :rolleyes: Poor dad ... he tries. Oh ... AND MY BOSS! He proclaims as he's walking through the office, "wow, you're getting really huge!"
It makes me mad because there is another girl in the office that is 3 weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy and much smaller than I. She does not get a single comment about her body. I've not heard one single thing. Oh, wait! Yes I did! My one coworker (the "you're not going to have a small baby" girl)said to her "Wow, you're boobs are really growing, aren't they?!" :eek: :rolleyes: Immediately following that comment, she looked over at mine ... to which I replied "no, their not. Thanks for noticing." So, she gets the luck with the bbs and tiny tummy. I get to be the flat-chested blimp. :p
QOTD, eating fish, I've had salmon several times during this pregnancy and I'm not worried. Its not like I'm eating nothing but salmon everyday, and besides that its healthy. I wouldn't mind eating more of it!
Gee. We started off with so many girls! Who knew the boys would pull so far ahead?
I finished my registry in the store today (Target). I have such an urge to do stuff to get ready for October but I just can't do much in an apartment we are moving out of. I did spent the evening last night packing away all my non-maternity clothes. I can't believe I ever even fit into that stuff! Hopefully I will get to wear it again.... someday.
Planning for our big move and then for the baby shower are keeping me occupied right now. I'm a planner and I always have to be making lists and reviewing options.
Other than that things are pretty mellow around here. It's not too, too hot outside so I am enjoying walks to the square and sitting on our balcony during the day. The exercise and fresh air seem to help a lot when I am feeling big and grouchy!
Well, we made it to Missouri! DD is somewhat out of sorts (as expected) so I can't wait for DH to arrive in town tomorrow.
Feeling good...feeling big. I looked at my medical records from my pregnancy with DD and this is the time frame where I gained the most weight...at one point I gained 22lbs over a period of 4 weeks:eek: Trying not to do that this time
JeanT...we flew Southwest here and I saw your book in their magazine!!! Congrats!
mommy2ml, did you use one size diapers with your daughter? I have heard that they're great once a baby weighs 15 pounds or so, but that they are way too big to use on a newborn. Have you tried out the mommy's touch ones already?
It's also funny you should mention tuna or egg salad as a deli alternative to deli meat... In the UK, there's no recommendation against pregnant women eating deli meat, but they do recommend avoiding "certain" (not very specific, I know) prepared foods such as potato salad or coleslaw. I think because eggs and mayonnaise are likely carriers of bacteria, and because you don't really have a very good idea of how fresh a batch of egg salad is at a deli, ya know?
One pregnant eating recommendation that exists on both sides of the Atlantic (that's my fast-and-loose criteria for when something needs to be taken really seriously) is to limit the amount of tuna you eat to two six ounce cans per week, because of the mercury content. The EPA site has a good little guide you can download (http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/fish/) on what's considered safe in pregnancy. I participated in this research (http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/press/releases/one-in-five-women-tested-natio) last summer (my mercury levels were just barely within the "safe level"), and they sent me a handy little guide, which I have on the side of the fridge. It's more cautious than the EPA's recommendations, which makes me feel better, given my barely safe mercury levels. In general, I have been limiting myself to one can of tuna per week (though in reality, it's often less... I just don't tend to eat it very often!) or one or two servings of other fish. I can type out the Greenpeace guide if anyone is interested.
I seem to have been avoiding body-related comments... Maybe because English people are less outspoken than Americans (I am pretty sure "Mustn't grumble" is the national motto), but also because I am still pretty small. I have not had any strangers ask me when I'm due. I have gotten a few "Where are you hiding it?" comments from people who've just heard that I'm five months pregnant. But that hasn't really bothered me so far.
I cannot believe all of the crappy comments you all are getting. I guess that’s a good thing about being stuck at home – I’m sheltered from all of the garbage-mouths.
Jenzen- What a beautiful little man you have!
Fish QOTD- No fishies here, I’m a vegetarian. :)
Ohh, Mommy2M, Thanks for that diaper link – I just got a few Fuzzi bunz for my collection since they had the free shipping. :)
SlvSpring – Isn’t it awesome being able to share the kicks? Glad your DH was able to feel the baby.
Funny, I always reply to the food questions!
Fish:I have salmon a few times a month. I also have had Grouper, shrimp, mussels, and crab more than once. Ahi Tuna is one of my all time fave meals, and of course the only time I have had it since I was PG with DS 3years ago was the day before I found out I was PG this time! oops.
Lunchmeat: I ask subway & other sandwich places to heat imy roast beef or turkey. I was craving salami non-stop a few months ago, and when I made it at home I usually wouldn't heat it b/c I was craving it cold. Probably not the smartest, so I have been more vigilant lately about meat being cooked.
Happy Monday, everyone!
Well, I hit the magical 24-week mark today. Yippee! Not much to report pregnancy-wise ... except that I am dead tired from chasing Gabe around yesterday and I have a cold to boot. Everything just aches from the waist down.
My best friend had her baby on Friday, which was very exciting. A nice, smooth labor, I guess. She said she threw up when she started pushing, which pushed the baby's head right out.
Fish - I printed out the fish recommendations from the American Pregnancy Association when I went to Florida (I seriously wanted some fish on that trip.) I think I had mahimahi or something like that. Otherwise, I've only had salmon a few times and canned tuna. I'm really avoiding our local fish because the advisories are pretty hefty, which is too bad because DH is an avid angler and we have a ton of fish in the freezer. Oh, do I love baked walleye with garlic butter and Paremesan. Mmmmmm....
Lunch meats - I kind of ignore this one because what else am I going to eat for lunch? Sometimes I heat it up, but I don't worry too much.
michellerenee - You've really hit a growth spurt!
Otherwise, "hi" to all.
Jen
Tact: I haven't gotten too many rude comments, except from one particular co-worker. She seems to say at least one rude thing to me each day! Last week she told me that I was going to look pregnant all over, not be one of those women that look the same (i.e. thin) and have a basketball belly. She's also said "you know you're going to get REALLY big, right?" and one day I had on a non-maternity jacket and had left it unbottoned. She proceeds to tug on the sides of my jacket so see if it will button or not. Nice, isn't she?
I hate all these comments, why are people seriously so rude to another person, stranger or not? Luckily, I haven't gotten too many myself, I would be so mad.
Rippy Big bellies don't always equal big babies, so don't worry about it. Sheesh, some people...
Fish I've never been a big fish eater, but still do occationally eat some, like tuna. I even had a couple of bites of mahi-mahi this weekend. My OB gave out a fish-list at my first appointment, which says which fish to avoid (swordfish, tile, shark) and which to limit and how much (tuna, halibut, salmon) and have been following those guidelines.
---
I have reached the point where strangers will ask me when I'm due. Nice to know they don't just think I'm fat. Plus, there was a long line at the mall restroom and I got to skip ahead a few people. ;)
Finally started our registry this weekend. Didn't get very far, as we only had an hour in Babies R Us, but now I can say it officially exists. Hoping to get back in the next couple of weeks to finish it up.
*sigh* I am so frustrated with JCPennys. We ordered our crib and dresser back in May and the ship date has been pushed back three times now! Now they're telling me that the manufacturer is telling them that the ship date will be at the end of July. I may end up with a baby before I ever get my crib at this point :(
Its amazing how there were so many girls at the beginning, and now they're way outnumbered by the boys!
maplekitty I guess it's a little late, but if you hold pressure on the injection or blood draw site for a while after, and then apply ice for a while, it helps reduce chances of bad bruising.
rudeness - ITA with you all so far! So many people with the comments! Just once if someone larger asks me some rude questions I want to get the guts to ask when SHE's DUE! LOL That should go over well! LOL
At McD's Friday night a nice lady got up from one of the big tables to give it to me and DD becasue I was sitting with DD at one of the scaled down kiddie tables and this woman was afraid I would fall off the little stool thingy! LOL So I got a nice big, comfy adult sized table out of it :)
fish and deli meats - I have mostly been goign by what they told me when pg with DD, and then just double checking on if anything changed since then. I am really into the avoiding deli meats.... I think after DD was born I had Subway Turkey sandwhiches for a week straight! LOL I know DH brough them to me while I was still in the hospital! That subway near the hospital still knwos us and asks about DD too LOL
I moderate tuna and shellfish and really any fish. My doc aleways says the key is in moderation. I had softshell crab on Sat night and LOVED it. But I won't have more shellfish for at least a week after that. Tuna I have 1 tuna sandwhich a week tops.
QC - I used disposies for DD for various reasons. The Mommy's Touch seems to be made specifically for versatility for the smallest and bigest babies :) On the website you can actually see how it gets snapped and folded over for a newborn, too. Since it is snapped to baby's size and shape and then folded over I don't think it should be a problem fitting little babies too. I have consulted many friends who have been using cloth on their kiddos for years, some even make their own or sell them. That is actually how I found out about Mommy;s touch - a friend sells them on her site :).
Part of why I am using cloth instead of disposies is the cost involved. With one-sized dipes you spend maybe $200-$400 initially and then you may either make or buy moreinserts later on, but you're pretty much good through PTing. If I were to buy a dozen or 2-dozen in each size of a cloth dipe, that would get even more expensive in some cases than using disposies and kind of prevent me from continuing to use cloth to begin with. For under $400 I was able to get a good deal on 24 dipes with inserts and a few hemp inserts, add in shipping and bam, done for good. No more diper buying required
Also, we don't have a washer/dryer in the house, so most will be either hand washed, or washed in a table top washer and hung to dry. Limiting the types of dipes I can use due to dry time (AIOs can take forever to dry if you don't use a dryer!) So I plan to wash every day to every other day so I can get away with just 2-dozen dipes, and I use the pocket ones to avoid long drying time and so I can customize the absorbency.
Oh, and I know that CPFs and such are less expensive, but there's just no way I am going that route. I would have sole dipe duty as Rob would never touch them. And again the laundry factor - leaks abound during the trial and error period from what I have been told. I don't need to be at the laundromat daily thanks
Nigellas - you're welcome :)
-----
So I am past the 25 week mark now and really starting to grow I think! I am starting to get a rim to my belly button and wondering if it might pop this time instead of flattening like with DD LOL That should feel awfully funny I am sure!
Peeing 3+ times a night now seems to be the norm for me :( I wish I could sleep through but the comfort factor is just gone almost no matter what I do now :P I think I need to buy another belly bra so I can wear them more often. I feel like everything is just pulling down and forward lately.
More later!
fish - I love, love, love seafood! I've pretty much just stuck with salmon, tilapia, shrimp, and scallops. When I was PG w/ DD, my OB said 1 can of tuna/week was OK. This time, the practice is saying no tuna at all. This is hard b/c I really love tuna sandwiches. I dunno... there's a lot of varying info and I don't think anyone is ever going to do a definitive study.
We had a busy weekend. Fun, but busy. Got to visit some friends in Eastern PA and ran a lot of errands. Hope everyone is doing well!
yeah, my current docs are stricter with the types of fish than my previous practice was too.
It's so cute! I just looked at what my development ticker says today...
"I'm 9 inches long and my lung sacs began functioning this week!"
if you wanna see it's the ticker link at the bottom of my sig :)
Oh yes... I am teaching myself more spanish. The teachers working at the d/c where MAckie goes to speak Spanish. Almost all of them speak English as well and at least 3 of them speak English fluently, but Spanish is pretty much all of their first language. Anyway, one teacher is pg and I have been trying to ask her how she feels, how far along, etc. and she is one with not too much Engish. So I am proud to say that today I finally was able to find out how far along she is :) So this poor lady is working there at 8mo pg! :eek She's big, but I think she thought I was further along LOL I think I was able to tell her I had 3 months to go, or was 6 months along or both :P I am so rusty!
Anyway, just something in my morning to be proud of :)
Oh, something I havebeen noticing the past couple of days... I notice most of the kicks and stuff have been lower than they had been sometimes... I am wondering if this little guy is transverse now too. MAckie was for a while, then turned by around 30 weeks or so. Guess we'll see Thursday, yes? I was telling Rob it'd sure be a hoot if after worrying about a possible induction that could fail and send me in for a c/s that we have to schedule a c anyway just because Logan feels like lounging LOL
The same exact thing happened to me. And I also love tuna sandwiches. I have had one since I've been told to avoid it though.:(
I have had wild salmon (not farm raised), tilapia, scallops, shrimp & lobster.
Deli meats-I have tried to avoid them with the exception of Turkey. I was under the impression that you were to avoid processed deli meats like bolgna, salami, pepperoni, etc. The deli i go to bakes off their own turkey breast and carves it to order. That is what I have been eating.
Sorry about all of the rude comments everyone is getting. I am big to start off with, so people just tell me I don't even look pg (which I do). Anyways, not much else is new.
I am very uncomfortable at night and am having diffuculty sleeping.
I am considering cloth diapers this time around. I would love more info on it before I buy them. Any good websites?
Hi everyone.
Fish: I love fish and have been craving it a lot lately. I've eaten snapper, cod and salmon, and I have a tuna sandwich every couple of weeks. The recommendations are confusing. My MW said that light canned tuna is okay but albacore (white) is higher in mercury and should be avoided. The whole white/light distinction was very confusing to me until she told me that it's like white/dark meat in poultry--except here light = dark, and white is still called white (I guess because white is "whiter" than "light"). Okay, that probably just confused you all more!
Rude comments: I haven't had too many this time around. People like to tell me I'm so tiny for how far along I am and I'll probably have a small baby, but they said that last time too and DS was 8 lbs. 4 oz two and a half weeks early! This is the funniest story I ever heard about rude pregnancy comments: A pregnant woman was at a restaurant and was drinking coffee when another woman, who was drinking a Coke, came up to her and said, "I hope that's decaf." The pregnant woman responded, "I hope that's Diet." I don't remember where I heard that but I thought it was hilarious! I don't know what makes people think it's okay to say things like that to pregnant women!
hmdelf: http://www.diaperpin.com is a great web site for learning about cloth diapers. They have a really extensive review of the different kinds and brands of diapers out there as well as links to other sites.
Mommy2ml, a few weeks ago my kiddo was head down feet up and I'd get kicked in the belly button non-stop, then she flipped around and stayed head up feet down for a few weeks, all the while rolling her head back and forth across my belly and and dancing away on my bladder. Now she's back to head down feet up again, hopefully she decides its comfy and just stays that way!
Jenniferlynne, that is such a funny story!! Good for that lady to say that back!
So we ordered our crib and dresser from JCPenny early in May and the original ship date was June 6th. But then it got changed to June 19th. Then it got changed to June 23rd, then June 26th (today). So I find out today that No it didn't ship today and the ship date is now July 24th!! :mad: I decided I've had enough of that crap. The very fancy uber expensive baby store where we got an awesome deal on our stroller has a crib in the store that is nearly identical to the one we ordered, but I never looked into it because I figured any furniture from that store would be too expensive. But after all this hassel with jcpennys I decided to look. Turns out that the price is almost the same, they'd give me a $150 discount on the floor model (which is in perfect shape), there's also a matching night stand with this set, if you buy three or more pieces you get an additional 10% off, you get a free crib matress (now I can return the other one I bought), and its free shipping. So I cancelled my order with JCPenny and bought the stuff from the fancy expensive store!! I ended up paying about $150 more total but now am also getting a matching night stand too :D It ended up being a way better deal all around. We can pick up the crib whenever we want, probably this weekend, then the other pieces will ship in 6 weeks or so.
Hello all!!
Glad to hear everyone had a good weekend.
Pamela--Sorry to hear about your probs with Penny's!! I'm glad we decided not to go through them for our crib!
Mommy2ml--Jake does flips all the time! Sometimes I feel things up by my belly button, but the next time it will be down low. I have even gotten the rib shot once all ready! My kiddo is extremely active!!
MichelleRenee--Wow, big growth spurt! Your belly looks fabulous! You're tan and no stretch marks that I can see! Yay!! Myself, I seem to have acquired a basketball in my belly pretty much overnight! I'll have to post a pic in a few days!
____________________________________
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the rude comments!! Sheesh! We had my sis's going away party. . . while I didn't get a single rude comment (yay!!). . . . I did get some people pretty much staring holes through my stomach!!! Cripes!! I felt kind of bad for my sis, because I got quite a bit of attention--but she had fun and I don't think she noticed or didn't mind, if she did notice.
Other than that, not much else is happening here. My former college roomie is home (she teaches in HI) so we're going to meet for lunch on Thursday--I haven't seen her in 2 years, so I'm excited!! She's looking forward to seeing me pregnant, too! I told her she came at the right time, since I'm starting to really pop out.
I'll try to check in later with a photo!
Pamela ~ I'm glad it worked out with the other store! You're right! It looks exactly the same! Awesome! I wish Penny's had that armoire available. LOL! Well, I listened to the heartbeat this morning and the heartbeat was below my belly button... which usually means head down. I remember Mackie being trannsverse till later on though, so I am not terribly worried I think.
Right now we are considering a relocation. Not RIGHT now, but in a year or 2, after things settle down and we can actually concentrate on moving. I want out of the city areas. Ideally we're looking at somewhere in NC. so any good info on the Raleigh area would be cool :) I have a friend in the area dn her kids are of similar ages as mine, so we should have great playdates, and the quality of life is so much better and the cost of living so much lower!
Anyway, aside from dreaming... we still have to get ourselves ready for baby - we need to get a couple of new chests of drawers and get rid of my dresser and get things in order in our rom to make sure we have the needed space for what we need to fit in there! LOL We're cutting it close, it's true, but we need to figure out how to gather the $$ for all this stuff! LOL
More later!
I'm surprised at all the rude comments, unbelieveable. I mostly get "are you sure your pregnant?" Which isn't terrible.
Our trip was great, Chicago is a beautiful city. We got upgraded on our hotel room, and had perfect weather. DS did great on the plane just kicked a lot after take off and landing.
Don't have time for personal SO's but all the belly shots are great! And yay for the blue team, looks like we have this one in the bag baby!
Rippy, hopefully you don't have as many problems with JCPennys as we did, it was starting to get pretty ridiculous.
I actually got to go to work last night, finally! Lol, I don't think I've ever been so excited to go to work. They really didn't need me, but were just being nice and had me come in for four hours to catch up a bit since I've been out for so long. Four hours sure went fast!! And I got a pregnancy comment (sort of) too -- when I got there I stopped for a minute to talk to someone, she was surprised to see me back and asked how far along I am now. I told her 26 weeks and she got all surprised looking and looked at my belly and was like, "where is it??" My scrub tops are all nice and loose and comfy, and you totally can't tell I'm pregnant in them. But I'm hoping this is the start of a trend and I'll be back more regularly now.
Edited to add: I just looked at my ticker -- 99 days to go!! I'm due in less than 100 days!
midwesterngal - have fun with your former roomie!
mommy2ml - my sister is trying to get everyone to relocate to NC since the cost of living in NJ is so high. I would miss winter though.
Can I just say I LOVE eBay?!?! I bought Claire the Little Tikes 8-in-1 climbing gym for $300 (retails around $800 w/ shipping). When we picked it up, the guy threw in two extra slides for free! Yippee!!! I love a bargain!
Wow, you ladies are getting some ALOT of not nice comments. I have only gotten a few of slightly weird ones. I agree with midwesterngal-- the hardest thing for me is having people stare at my stomach and they don't even try to hide that they are staring at it either. It makes me feel weird for that part of my body to get so much attention.
Pamela- I'm glad something good came from all that aggravation with JC Penney! Love the new crib! It's beautiful!
Mommy2ml-Where do you live now? We have talked about moving too, even though we love where we live because it is so ridiculous to buy a home at here right now.
Midwesterngal- Have fun with your friend!
Well, we may be moving in the next month. An opportunity has become available for us to get a much bigger apartment for a GREAT deal and we are going to take advantage of it!! I think I am CRAZY for moving in the middle of summer, 6 months pregnant, but a bigger place with be great for us and the baby and I can't wait to start decorating his room. Please keep your fingers crossed that this works out for us!
My doctors appt is tomorrow, I'm excited! Although he will be scheduling my glucose test, not looking forward to that! We did our hospital tour last night.... the labor and delivery rooms are so nice and HUGE! they are called "birth suites"
We saw all the newborns in the nursery and all of the sudden it hit me that pretty soon I will be a MOM! It was scary, exciting and so emotional all at the same time.
Well have a good night, ladies!!
Well it's been officially 48 (business) hours since my glucose test last wednesday (they said they would clal in 48 hours), and no phone call. Doc said she'd call if the levels were high, and if I didn't get a call, then all is well! So I must've passed!! YAY!! :D
maplekitty, I think they would have called by now if you hadn't passed. I hate that though. I like to get a call with my results whether they are good or bad.
SlvSpring, isn't it crazy when you see a newborn and realize you will have one soon?? Isn't it also crazy that we are all moving mid-summer and mid-pregnancy? Mike and I have started packing for our move next month and I can already tell it is going to be miserable!
marathongirl, congrats on the bargain!!
Pamela, less than 100 days!! Woohoo!!
We did officially get the contract on our house so we will be moving next month. We are very excited to be homeowners soon! Suddenly our apartment feels so tiny. I am very excited to put the baby's stuff in his room and organize it all how I like it. I am a bit OCD so it's gonna be crazy.:o I need to have enough time to organize, reorganize, and reorganize one more time before Tristan comes. The only thing I don't like about moving is that we are moving 20 minutes away from our hospital. We are less than 5 minutes away here at the apartment.
I start pregnancy yoga in one week and I can't wait. I think it will be good stress relief for me. Hopefully I will enjoy it and not be too tired for it after work!
First home ownership is so exciting!!!
It is very exciting. Part of me wishes we had bought a house last year, though, because it is hard to handle so much change and exictement all at once. Since February I have graduated college, started my first job in my field, gotten promoted to full-time, got pregnant and now we are buying a house. Sometimes I think it would be nice to spread out some of the excitement so I could enjoy everything without feeling so overwhelmed!!
Morning,
Things are well here. Had a check up last night. Everything looks good. I gained 5 lbs since my last appt (only 3.5 weeks ago). :eek: The only thing that makes be feel better is its the first time I've gained weight. And this just brings me up to my pre-preg weight. It is scary seeing the weight go up though. The heartbeat was nice and strong and I'm measureing on target.
My next appt is July 27th . Thanks.
The only other exciting baby thing I did was order my diaper bag. I really wanted to avoid paying $100+ on it, but wanted something functional and cute. We decided on the Skip Hop Dash bag. I really like the way it becomes a "stroller bag" since the Zippy stroller doesn't really have a big basket. We got it in black, since the stroller is going to be red/grey/black. They had red, but I was worried the reds might not match.
Mrs-Mac: That is a good bag, especially for the Zippy. I've never been able to fit a diaper bag in the basket, so it is always on the handle, which makes for easy access! I love the zippy so much, that liitle snag has never ever bothered me.
I just called to get my test results, and I passed my 3-hour GTT. :D She said that my blood sugar level actually acts really strange ... it shoots up high really quickly, and then drops really low very quickly. I was right below the cut-off mark for the 1st hour and 2nd hour, and then for the 3rd hour their cut-off was 125 and mine was 62!! :eek: She said that I'm actually almost hypoglycemic, and to just add more complex carbs and proteins into my diet, and eat smaller meals but many more throughout the day.
I passed, I passed. :D
Good morning, all.
Wow. We are a busy group! So many people moving and going through major life changes. (as if having a baby weren't enough of a change!) :)
michellerenee - So exciting to hear about your move. I know what you mean about a lot of big things happening at once ... we got married in Oct. 2003, got pregnant in April 2004, moved in July 2004, had Gabe in Dec. 2004, and now baby No. 2 is on the way. It's been nonstop at our house, too.
rippy - Congrats on passing the 3-hour!
Shopping highlights - Oh my gosh, did I have a great time at TJ Maxx this past weekend! We have a Super TJ Maxx in Green Bay, which has a great kids/baby section. I got a really cute diaper bag for $14 and a bunch of dresses and stuff for about $5 a piece. I also started Christmas shopping for Gabe, and got him some fridge magnets and some books. I've got to go back this weekend so I can finish getting linens for Gabe's big-boy bed.
QOTD - OK, so it's really early, but is anyone else thinking about Christmas shopping? I'd like to get most of it done before this baby comes because I have no idea how I'll shop with an almost 2-year-old and a newborn. Plus, Gabe's and DH's birthdays are Dec. 21, so I've got a lot to do that time of year.
Christmas Shopping: I actually just found out that I will be getting a Christmas bonus this year so we are excited to have a "bigger" Christmas than usual. We love buying gifts for EVERYONE. We already decided our gift to Tristan this year will be starting his college fund with a nice sized deposit. For everyone else we have been known to be year-round shoppers. We find things that would make perfect gifts and don't hesitate to buy them in February or July. We haven't gotten anything yet this year though, so I would like to start on that soon just to avoid the holiday rush with a newborn. Thanks for the reminder, Jenzen01. With all the baby/moving excitement I could have asily forgotten Christmas even exists until after the end of October!
I have started. I am a year round shopper as well. I have most of the children that we buy for done and half of the adults. After the baby is nborn, I should only have to buy for pumpkin (since we aren't finding out until the baby is born). I should be done shopping by September. I will start to wrap in November. I am also doing a lot of homemade/crafty items thi syear too, so I've started to putz away on that.
Otherwise, everything is going well. I'm glad to hear most are passing their Glucose test. I haven't been scheduled for mine yet. I hope I pass.
Sleeping has been terrible lately. I odn't remember being so uncomfortable w/ DS which is odd because I am about 20# lighter right now than Iwas at this point with him. My hubby is a terrible snorer, so that doesn't help.
Prenatal yoga is still going great!!! I absolutley love it. Right now I am focusing on getting DS's scrapbook up to date before I have to start my next one. We are starting DS's big boy bedroom next week! I am so happy about that!!! Not much else to update. Have a great week!!
SlvSpring I am in Queens NY right now. I like living here, but the cost of living is skyrocketing and the quality of life is plummetting. Will miss my family, but they can come and visit and get a vacation from this themselves :)
Rippy congrats on passing... sounds like you've got reactive hypoglycemia, kind of like what I was dx's with a while back. High fiber and whole grain will help as well as cutting back on simple and processed sugars :)
qotd holiday shopping. Not even thinking like that yet. this year we get pummelled evey 2 weeks... Chanukah, then a couple of weeks after that starts, Christmas comes, then 2 weeks later Mackie's B-Day is there. So we just get ripped apart financially every year :P Right now the big thing is getting furniture and baby gear squarred away.
-----
We took measurements finally and have discovered our crib won't fit in our room :P So we're going withthe cradle idea for now. We also picked out 3 pieces of furniture to replace some things in our room with to make the most of the storage and space sitch. We hope to get the baby's chest of drawers from ILs, the cradle and bedding set from my parents, and then pay out for the rest. It's gonna leave us pretty wiped though.
The cradle turns into a toddler love seat afterwards, so it'll be used for years :) The firniture will fit with just about any decor, so that will be good if we ever get into a house that actually fits us all too LOL
My GTT is tomorrow, as well as the next u/s. I bought a brand new copy of "The Baby Book" from the Sears Library to read and will bring some sudoku for before my eyes start to hurt and then I think I will dig out my MP3 player if I cna and just chill with some music the rest of the time :)
Foudn out on our tour of the hospital that they do not have a CD player in the LDR rooms... so I am thinking it might be a better idea to get a better MP3 player that can handle more than 15 songs and bring that instead, but we'll see as it gets closer if it's even necessary.
Right now work is really trying my patience. I have p/t people they hired that are in or freshly out of college and have never worked in an office environment. My nerves are frayed to say the least. I have been diping into the office Tylenol a bit lately too with all the headaches they give me too :P Maybe I am just old fashioned, but I was always told that office decorum was a must and that you should always mind your manners and mannerisms to avoid annoying those around you, especially in a cubical environment. I wonder if they stopped teaching that recently? These new kids don't seem to know much of anything of how to act in an office :P It's wors esince being pg, everything gets on my nerves twice as much as it did before...
Anyway, I wish I could be outside right now... it seems to have cleared a bit and is getting sunny. Inside the office it has gotta be somewhere in the 50s or 60s... I am wearing a fleece jacket I keep here. Outside it should be around the upper 70s about now... :)
rippy - congrats on passing the GTT!
Christmas shopping - nope. I imagine I'll be doing a lot of online shopping this year. I'm making some gifts so those are already underway.
hmdelf - my DH also snores terribly!!! I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but we probably only sleep in the same bed 1-2 nights a week b/c it's so bad. He did finally go to a sleep specialist and has mild sleep apnea. Now it's just getting him to do something about the sleep apnea :rolleyes: .
Christmas Shopping - Since we are trying to get out of debt and will be moving before the end of the year most likely, Christmas shopping does't exist for me right now. I'm sure my mom will buy the baby stuff as well as the IL's, so we may just get a little something for him, but nothing extreme. Plus with the possible trip (will see how far we can get out of debt by than) we are going to be tapped out. We never really buy anything for family, his family is the west coast and we are on the east coast, shipping gets pricey. We just usually ask them to send money instead of gifts, since we would rather buy what we want, if they want to get the baby real gifts that's fine though.
Just checking in! Glad to hear about everyone who's passing their GTT tests. I will be going to do mine July 8th. It's the only day that I can take the time to do it and have someone watch the kiddos.
Sleeping - I'm reassured to hear that others are having sleeping issues as well. I have to pee a million times a night, it's so frusturating. And DD#2 is the lightest sleeper so when I get up to go to the bathroom, she's up too. Argh! Not only that but even when I don't have to go to the bathroom I will wake up b/c the baby is bunched up in one part of my stomach and my stomach is hard as a rock and in pain. Once I move around or switch sides he moves and I can fall back asleep but it is sooo uncomfortable. It usually happens when I've been laying on my back. I don't remember that with my girls.
Christmas Shopping - I will definitely start working on this soon. I do NOT want to be shopping w/3 KIDS! :eek: Unlike most of you though, I have nothing started yet. I think we're going to be conservative this year though. We have a habit of really really really overdoing it. :rolleyes: Although, I always say that we're going to *try* and be conservative. This is our first boy and although he'll only be a couple months old, I can just imagine DH having a ball at the toy store.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Baby's good. I constantly have to pee. I really think I go to the bathroom every half hour if not more often than that. I forgot how annoying that actually is. :rolleyes:
Also, my BH have been soooo painful. I remember them being more painful w/DD#2 than they were with DD#1 for sure. I guess I'm even more aware of them this time. It's going to be a long 14 more weeks with these pains though...sheesh! I can't decide if the BH make me have to pee or if my full bladder causes the BH but I've tried drinking more water since that's what they suggest for BH and it seems to only make the situation worse.
My only other issue is *chest pain*. I seem to be getting "attacks", especially after I eat, of terrible chest pain. I have heartburn and acid reflux so I already know what those feel like. I did some reading and saw that sometimes gall bladder issues can cause sudden chest pain like that, especially since it seems like it's related to eating. I'll be mentioning it to my dr. though. Just another fun pregnancy symptom.

I can hardly wait to pick up our crib this weekend, I'm so excited about this furniture! We finally got the bolts for the changing table (did I mention that here? the changing table we got from jcpenny came without any of the bolts!). So we put it together last night, and guess what -- one of the shelf pieces was cut too short! It leaves a big gap at one end and can slide back and forth. *sigh* So now I need to go and see if they can send a replacement piece.
Rippy, Congrats on passing your GTT!
MichelleRenee, Congrats on getting the contract on your house!! Its so exciting to move into a new house, we've been in ours three and a half months now, and I'm still so excited about it!
QOTD, Christmas Shopping, I haven't even thought about it! And probably won't for a while either.

I took the GTT this morning, all in all not too bad. The needle prick was the most uncomfortable part of the entire process. The drink really did taste like a thicker sugary orange crush. I should have the results back in a couple days.
Congrats on the new homes for everyone. Moving is exciting and exhausting all at the same time. At least it will give you something to focus on these last couple months.
Sleeping I really haven't had to many interruptions. My problem has been trying to stay awake past 10pm. I have had a series of calf cramps which are really annoying, but I have found the more walking I do during the day the less cramps I have at night. I generally only have to get up for the bathroom at most 1x per night, if at all so it hasn't disrupted my sleep. I hoping htat continues the whole pg. so I can be nice and rested when he shows up.
Holiday shopping We do both Christmas and Hanukkah, and not good for me I haven't even started to think about what to get for family. Our friends do not exchange gifts so its just my immeadiate family and his, not too bad. I don't think we will go crazy with gifts for DS this year as he will be so young and I'm sure the grandparents will take care of that for us.
Baby's pattern has definitly changed. He is more active earlier in the evening now. There is a lot more movement and ususally at some point he'll curl up on the left and my belly is totally lopsided which is pretty funny. I think I even feel a butt or rounded back which is cool.

quick update as I am busy at work!
had my 1-hr GTT yesterday and thankfully I passed! That orange drink was absolutely vile, IMO - I hate orange to begin with, so it was all the more yucky for me! They also tested my iron levels, and they were borderline, so I am now taking additional iron pills every other day, which is fine.
baby was moving around all over the place when my OB was listening to the heartbeat - and then she gave the doppler a big kick, it was quite funny! All is well and my next appointment is July 25th.
like many of you, I too have been getting up to go to the bathroom much more frequently, both during the day and the night - not so good for sleeping! but I guess this is all preparation, right? ;)

Hi all!
Rippy and Maplekitty and everyone else--Yay on passing the GD test! I have been trying to cut back on sugar. . . and get this--the generic Frosted Flakes have *less* sugar than Raisin Bran!! Sigh. Here I am, trying to be good and yet I fail! Yipes! I have been tested for diabetes before, and it was really low. Of course, with being pregnant and gaining weight the last year. . . who knows what it'll be now.
MichelleRenee--That is awesome about the new house! I'm so excited for you! I understand about not wanting to move. Even though we just moved into our rental house 2 months ago. . . DH's job can transfer him at anytime they want--our situation doesn't matter. It's actually a running joke at his work that we'll get transferred in Sept! (yipes!). So I'm crossing my fingers we don't! We're also not setting a single thing up until a week before baby is due (and even might just leave it for the grandpas to do while we're in the hospital!), just to not jinx ourselves!!
Christmas Shopping--Nope, haven't started and don't plan to until December. I LOVE the hustle-bustle of going shopping in the season. Plus, I'll be SAHM so I can go during the week when it's less busy. Usually I go way overboard, but this year, it'll be around a $20 limit for each gift, because money will be tight.
______________________
Nothing else baby-related here. I need to get a new pic posted, I have totally popped in the last couple days. It feels funny to have my tummy kind of "rest" on my legs.
DH is having a bad day--one of his brothers is completely irresponsible and has once again screwed up. It's a long story, but the screw-ups are enough to land him in jail, actually. However, he always ends up getting out of it, so we'll see about this time. I told DH that his brother is not allowed in our house or with our child until he gets his act together, and DH totally agress. Sigh.
I hope everyone has a great day!

MichelleRenee Congrats on the house! Owning is great and I know you will love it. The debt is worth it to build equity and in general have more control over your fate. No more landlords!
Mommy2ml We almost moved to the Raleigh area last year (Chapel Hill actually -- I was offered a job at UNC). It's a great area for a lot of reasons. The schools are good, it's a big enough city to have lots of stuff going on, and the weather is decent. It's not super cheap (at least in Chapel Hill, decent houses were about $300,000 ... Raleigh itself might be cheaper). It's pretty, with lots of pine trees. We didn't go there for two reasons -- 1) I love San Diego enough to be broke for the rest of my life :) and 2) although relatively enlightened, Raleigh/Chapel Hill is still The South. I grew up in Texas and hated it, and it reminded me of that too much. But that's me, and someone else might not care about that or might even like it.
News here ... I have a mild case of meralgia paresthetica, which means that every once and awhile my thigh goes numb. I found this out by going to urgent care yesterday. I was afraid it was a blood clot or something, so I was actually relieved to hear it was nerve-related! Apparently the uterus or some inflammation related to pg presses on a nerve in the pelvis. It's weird but doesn't hurt. I am just glad I don't have deep vein thrombosis. I wonder, though, if it will get worse once I'm bigger -- only time will tell.
Sleeping is still OK, much to my relief. Don't know how long that will last!
Xmas shopping: I am in denial about that. I'll probably shop online, which is what I often do anyway. For wrapping paper, gift cards, etc., I'll probably make DH go shopping. :)

Sha-Ra - That's so great to hear about the diaper bag and the Zippy. I'm really trying to make smart choices and and its good to get some feedback on it!!
Glad to hear everyone has been passing ths GTT test recently.
Pamela Sorry to hear about the headaches with your furniture!! Hope you don't have any problems getting a replacement shelf!
MichelleRenee Belated congrats on the house!! That's so exciting!
QOTD - Christmas I have a mental list of gift ideas started, but I'm a little hesitant to get started since we will be moving. The thought of just moving more things isn't ideal. But at the same time, I know this fall is going to be soooo busy, so it might be a good idea to get started!!

Good to hear everyone is passing the GTT, hopefully the trend will continue.
MichelleRenee Congrats on having the house under contract. Have you set your closing yet?
Mrs-Mac I just saw the Skip Hop bag yesterday at a store and it looked pretty nice, lots of pockets and a simple style. I also like that it goes on the stroller. I may pick one up for myself.
kenswife I hate the days when I get lots of BH, it's so uncomfortable. I was having a terrible time of it at the mall last weekend, I kept having to either sit down or find a restroom. I've tried to drink more water as well, and I swear that makes it worse if it's not carefully spread out.
Pamela Ugh, sorry to hear you're having more furniture problems. At least you started buying early to have time to deal with all of it.
Sleeping I've been sleeping just fine, but DH hasn't because my snoring really increased a few weeks ago. I think it's the additional sinus congestion I have all the time now, so I tried Breathe Right strips yesterday and they worked pretty well. DH was very pleased to have a marked decrease in my noise production. ;)
Christmas shopping No time to think about that now. Probably a lot of online shopping. And, maybe I'll go out to the stores during the weekdays when I'm on maternity leave, since I should be out until after New Year's.

hey gals.
I'm starting to feel like I'm way behind in the baby preparations! With house moving and renos, decrease in $$ right now and busy busy summer ahead, I feel like we're going to be rushing in the end to get everything we need done! :(
Anyone else feeling like, omg....only 10 more weeks....that's a little over 2 months...ack....so much to do!!!! :eek:
I mean, if we were to ahve the baby tomorrow we'd surivive, obviously. I have a craddle, a have some blankets, I have some clothes. I *don't * have any gear yet, ie car seat, stroller ect...
I'm just feeling kind of overwhelmed that everything else is more of a priority than baby stuff right now, and we're going to regret it in a short while when my mobility is way less and I can't help out!

Pamela Sorry to hear about the headaches with your furniture!!
Oh but wait, theres more!! So I get an email this morning from JCPenny saying my order has shipped!! :eek: WTF? I phoned three separate times to double check that my order had been cancelled, and they assured me all three times that it had been cancelled and would not be just showing up on my doorstep. So now its shipped! I can just return it to the store and get my money back when it arrives, but thats a hassel we didn't need. The other furniture I ordered is not cancellable and not returnable, which is fine with me becaus I like it better and want it more, plus I'll have the crib set up by this weekend. But still, what a pain! My dh is going to be SO mad when he gets home and I tell him, lol!

maplekitty ~ I don't even have as much as you have. I've been freaking out about it. We don't want to buy too much because we are looking for a new apt or townhome. But, now I'm so afraid of "what if something happens and he needs to be delivered early". I've been very panicky about it lately because we have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The one thing we have is a baby bouncer (one of those vibrating chairs) and some clothes that were hand-me-downs from friends and coworkers. Every time another week goes by my anxiety increases. :( We've also had a ton of things higher up on the priority list, and I also feel like we are going to be rushing around at the last second.

MidwesternGal, I hope he doesn't get transferred too close to your due date!!! We have 3 months from moving day to EDD, which is fine by me. I don't have a problem with the amount of time we'll have at the new place before he comes.... Ijust have a problem with the idea of the work and stress involved with moving while 6 months pregnant and mid-summer!
jeant, wierd about your thigh going numb. I don't think I'd like that! Hopefully it is something that does not get worse as your pregnancy progresses!
Mrs-Mac, thanks!
bunnybeth, we get the keys July 27th!
maplekitty, I think there is a huge difference between feeling behind on baby preparations and being behind on baby preparations. I just try to remind myself that with a crib, some diapers, some clothes and feeding supplies we are set and everything else is extra. I also have to remind myself not to panic until after the baby shower, because that is when I will truly know what I still need!
Pamela, what a PITA!!! Can you just refuse delivery?
Pamela
06-29-2006, 10:35 AM
Pamela, what a PITA!!! Can you just refuse delivery?
I could just refuse delivery, but so far I don't have a tracking number and don't know exactly when it'll arrive. Plus, the UPS driver always unloads the boxes, rings the bell and runs, so by the time I get to the door he's already back in the truck. I'd need to be ready for him when he arrives to refuse it, and then I could tell my credit card not to accept the charge, but I think that might end up being more of a hassel and more drawn out than just returning it after it arrives. Still a PITA though. But I've decided not to stress over it (too much), it will all work out fine!
On a happy note, we got a baby gift yesterday :D Some friends of ours just went to San Francisco and brought back a cute lilac coloured baby fleece jacket for our little kiddo.

Maple Try to not stress about it. You will feel much better after your shower, and everything will come together in the end. Remember the baby only needs some diapers, blankets and your love!
I had another appointment today. BP was 110/70, weight was up 3 lbs :( and I'm measuring about 5 days ahead. The heartbeat was strong so that was good to hear after the two plane trips this month.
Next Appt 7/27 After that I start going every 2 weeks and we start discussing Peds! Its really starting to hit home now.
I still haven't heard from the GTT, so as long as I don't get a call by tomorrow afternoon, I have passed.

Hi all,
Boy, life is busy for everyone around here!
Pamela - Yuck, yuck, yuck. Sorry about the furniture hassle.
bubeleh - Hey, 3 pounds is not bad at all! I'd be ecstatic with that at this point. I can't believe how much I've gained so far. (18 pounds as of last appointment.) I'm sort of avoiding scales until I have to step on them.
As for me, I think baby is going through a growth spurt because my skin feels like it's stretched too far. This is the first time I've felt like that in this pregnancy. Just downright uncomfortable these days.
Baby preparations - My biggest job is going to be getting DS1's room done. I have to paint, get linens, organize the closet, put up light fixtures, etc. I hope to get the book shelf painted this weekend. DH made it this winter, and I think it still needs to be sanded. On a plus note, I dug out all of my neutral sleepers and whatnot last night, and I have about a bushelful, so this baby will be well clothed in the first few months. I really don't need much ... other than to get everything organized. Ugh, and I have to move all of DS1's stuff to the room next door and put all of the baby stuff away in the nursery. So yeah, I'm stressing.
Anyone else have lower butt pain? It's not my sciatic nerve (according to the dr.) but some joint at the top of my butt. Hurts after I've been sitting for a while.

Yesterday I went to my PCP too see about this tick bite on my ankle. I pulled the tick off last week and in the past couple of days, the area has begun to look really bad. I figured it was infected, but no - I have the 1st stage of LYME DISEASE! :eek: We caught it early and it should clear up fine in the next couple of weeks with an antibiotic, but I just can't believe I really have lyme disease. Lovely.
Christmas shopping: I am in denial about this too. It will probably be what I do while on maternity leave to get out of the house a little. It'll be nice for the baby and me to get out during the week when it's not so crowded. I just don't see getting started before she arrives!
Baby gear: We don't have much so far, but am I weird for not wanting much in the way of baby gear? Obviously I want and will have the essentials, but as far as all the extra gear that isn't necessary, I really don't want things that we may use only a few times cluttering up my house!

re: Lyme disease ... It's actually a more common occurence these days that you'd think because we have more knowledge and better detection. I worked on a hunting magazine for several years, and we covered Lyme disease often because of its relevance to the outdoor lifestyle. Not too many years ago, people would get advanced forms of Lyme disease because doctors didn't know how to diagnose or treat it. Now that we know the symptoms and are more familiar with the disease, it's become much more treatable.
I've actually heard of quite a few people at my company who have had it. It also depends on the area you live in ... some parts of the country have higher incidence of Lyme than others.
OK, enough of that. :)

Anyone else have lower butt pain? It's not my sciatic nerve (according to the dr.) but some joint at the top of my butt. Hurts after I've been sitting for a while.
I have been getting this, too. My yoga teacher says it's from the sacro-illiac joints being loosened. Here's a drawing (http://www.yoga-in-daily-life.org/articles/20041221201/img/2.gif). That place where the hip bones come together with the base of my spine - the top of the butt - is exactly where I am getting this pain. I don't notice it too much when I'm sitting, but when I get up after sitting for a while, it's pretty bad. I just bought an exercise ball to sit on at work (instead of my desk chair, which was encouraging/allowing me to slouch and put more pressure on those bones/joints in the back of the pelvis), which should help some. As long as I don't fall off.
Christmas shopping? Are you kidding? In England we don't have Christmas... Okay, that's a lie, but in my little part of England, we have denial instead. We have way too much to sort out before, say, November (two international trips together, one for FH, FH's thesis to be submitted and defended, moving, the baby, getting ready for said baby, and family visits, just off the top of my head), to think about what's happening in December.
In terms of baby preparations, we're not doing much. Buying a few baby clothes and diapers (we're doing cloth) here and there, and we have a wrap-style sling, but we are moving in September. I don't want to accumulate things we will then have to pack up and move if I can just get them when we are in the new flat.
Anyone else getting that dark stomach line already? The linea negra? I am starting to see it, just barely, down from my belly button. Slightly creepy.

Anyone else getting that dark stomach line already?
I've had it for about 5 weeks now, and mine is crooked. Drives me crazy. I'm a little OCD...
I also discovered something new last night. Well, DH discovered it.... I have a TON of stretch marks on my butt!!! I thought I'd get them on my belly first! I was mortified when he said "what's that on your butt?" and I looked in the mirror and there they were... So now my boobs and butt are covered in them. I guess I'm lucky that my DH thinks I look sexy full clothed because I certainly do not look sexy naked!

Hi Ladies -
Sorry I have been MIA - we spent the week at my parents beach house since DH was out of town. It was great - we got to take DS to the beach and he became a little fish...alot of fun. Now we are heading back down there for the long weekend....
Christmas shopping - I figure I am not organized enough to do it now - :) - so I will probably do most of it online in the fall. There is a chance with my bad back that I will be on bed rest or at least restriction the last 4 weeks due to pain so I will have more time to surf the web! (Not sure how I will do it with a 2 year old but we will cross that bridge when we come to it!)
Organizing baby stuff - I also pulled out all my neutral newborn clothes and have quite a bit. I don't really mind if "little girl" is wearing blue sleepers at home either....she will have plenty of cute outfits for visiting! I hit the outlets last week! If anyone has a Carter's outlet near them - all the summer pieces were $3 to $5!! I don't know exactly what size to buy her for next summer but I figure we will take at least one warm weather trip this winter so a few items can't hurt!
We have alot to do in the baby's nusery - paint, set up furniture, clean out the room etc. We also have to buy DS a bedroom set b/c he is still in the crib and uses the baby's dresser. We have two cribs but I am freaking out because when we moved the movers put the screws to our 1st crib in a plastic baggie and I can't find it!! :eek: I figure since they still sell it at BRU I could call the company and order a set of screws?? I know they are around here somewhere though.....I woke up at 3am worrying about this last night....like that was going to help!
Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone!!

Jeant - Raleigh area, new consitruction houses are around $150k. I found a 3BR 2BA apartment with twice as much sq footage as what we have now for around $300/mo less than what we pay now... and that comes with an additional Bathroom and bedroom and 600 sq ft more.
maplekitty I'm not moving right now and still feel that way. With all the $$ constraint we have right now there's a ton of stuff we need and not much we can get just yet :P
Pamela UGH! What a mess!
taterbaby Yikes! Glad you caught it early and hope all goes well and quick with treatment!
----------
Update: Had the GTT and an u/s yesterday:
GTT went better than I remember it going last time. I hope that is a good sign!
u/s - had a focal contraction from rushing over there when running late... got to watch it slowly go away on the screen. Painful contraction, focused in one spot. On screen it looks like an upside down bell curve LOL They can last up to about an hour or so :(
Ok:
Next dr appt 7/5
Next u/s 7/24
Echogenic bowel is still getting better and going away it seems. However, they are continuing to watch his growth every 3-4 weeks for the rest of the pg as of now. So far he is staying around the same percetile in growth each time, so the peri is pleased with that so far.
Oh, and he is breech right now. Head up by my ribs and but down near my cervix breech :P But he's got a ton of time to switch around LOL
Anyway so what I had been thinking were strong kicks, were really strong punches! and the mild punches I thought I was feeling down by my bladder and lower belly... kicks!
My placenta is at the back, so I get the full spectrum of movements this time around. No pics cause he was hiding his face the whole time !:P
I should have somee kind of results by or at my next appt I hope (this coming Wednsday) form the GTT as well as the other stuff she had them draw - CBC and 1 other test - probably iron or something.
I was surprised by how well I took it this time... I fell asleep when I got home for a bit, but that was about it... if anything I was a bit hyper feeling durig the test and a bit anxious, so who knows? Maybe my current sugar free food plan has done good things to my system and cured my hypoglycemia... or maybe the fact that I spent the rest of the day thirsty means something else, but we will soon find out.
I am going back and forth... I wanted to get the cradle for the first few months, then use the PNP since there is no room for our crib inour room... BUT someone mentioned the arms reach co-sleeper again to me and it clicked as a nice alternative... it can be used much longer and as a playard the side can come down a bit to make putting a sleeping baby in a lot easier... but this comes 2 days after I told my parents we want them to get us the cradle for their big baby present :P Still researching, but I better tell them not to buy yet!

the butt/sacro-illiac pain - yep, I have it too, have had it for about 2-3 weeks now. Oddly enough, I notice it mostly at night when I get up to pee, or when I turn from one side to the other. Last week it was so bad for a couple of days that I could barely walk, actually.
linea nigra - yep, I've had it for about 3-4 weeks, though it is fairly light, as I have fair/pink-toned skin. and mine is a little crooked too, michellerenee!
dzmattie - I too think it's fine for our little girls to wear blue - it's my favorite color, personally, and we are actually painting her nursery walls blue -it's so calming and soothing.
taterbaby - hope that you are feeling okay and your treatment is successful! how crazy!
pamela - what a ridiculous story about your crib furniture! what terrible service. in the end it certainly sounds like you're getting a great deal - Munire is a great brand - but what a hassle overall!
So I feel like this baby is testing out her schedule... First she was kicking almost exclusively in the evenings, from 7-9pm. Then last week she would kick like crazy in the middle of the night/early morning. For the past few days it's been lots of midmorning activity! My doctor told me not to expect a discernible pattern for several more weeks - I guess baby is just trying to figure out when she wants to be active!

OK,
So, in all ironies, after talking about Lyme disease yesterday, I found a fully-bloated deer tick on Gabe last night. It was in his armpit, and because I hadn't given him a bath the night before it could very well have been on there for over 24 hours. So, there's another thing to worry about. We're just keeping our eye on it. He's 18-month WBB is in a few weeks, so I'll make sure to ask the dr. about it then.
Quartercentury - That's exactly what my dr. said, but I couldn't remember the terms. I do slouch a lot in my chair at work, so maybe I better work on posture. :) It hurts when I get up after sitting for a long time.
Let's see, what is everyone doing for the holiday weekend?
I have to take pictures at a wedding tomorrow, which should prove interesting as the bride is riding down the aisle on a horse and we're supposed to get severe t-storms tomorrow afternoon. If it rains, the wedding is going to be in a pole shed. So, picture these elements: rain, metal building, sweaty horse, bride in white, lots of people and a good crack of thunder. If nothing else, this wedding should be memorable. :)

I don't get a holiday weekend... gotta work on Monday, then off Tuesday... BUT MAckie is off Mon and Tues... so my parents are taking her to the zoo Monday! LOL
Anyone's nose and head incredibly stuffed up? Espcecially when you lay down? My uncle (also my allergist) just gave me a ton of samples for saline products (sprays, gels and other stuff) to try to get my nose cleared up a bit at night. Trying to sleep propped up hurts my neck and back, laying down I cannot breathe or sleep at all :P

Tater Oh no, lyme disease! Good thing you caught it early and should able to get it cleared up soon, but what a thing to have to deal with now. We have tons of ticks in our area (mostly dog/brown, but some deer) and our cats bring them in the house all the time. I've been nervous about it this summer especially.
Mommy2ml Definitely more congested overall, especially at night. I tried Breathe Right strips this week, and they help a bit. I'm trying to avoid the saline stuff as it drives me crazy, I hate that smell.

Linea Nigra, nope, don't have one yet.
Stuffy nose, yup, been stuffed up pretty much throughout pregnancy, and seasonal allergies make it worse.
We picked up our crib today and set it up. Its really pretty and I love it. Seeing it set up in her room really makes it all the more real that we'll be bringing home a baby soon!

Bubeleh & Jenzen--Don't worry too much about weight gain. . . I have gained around 20ish (give or take 1 or 2 depending on the day) and for how far along we are, that is about right!
Tater--Oh no! Lyme disease! I think you mentioned you had dogs, right? Maybe you should check them over for ticks really well and get them on a new flea/tick product, because they could be bringing them in. My doggie is on Frontline, and it works until the very end of the month. Then she just brings the ticks in, but they don't attach, so I just have to check her and kill them. Just a thought!! Hopefully yours clears up soon!
Linea Negra--Nope, not even in the slightest. My belly, although *I* think it's huge, is actually way smaller than a lot of people's on here. I am definitely a "pregnant all over" woman--anyone else?? We got pictures developed from a roll of film I'd had in the camera since January (ie, the month we all conceived!). You just watch me progressively get bigger and bigger everywhere! My face, arms, legs, stomach, hips, everything! Sigh. Oh well. At least I know most will come off when it's all said and done!
Jenzen--Good luck with the wedding tomorrow! I'll cross my fingers that the weatherman is wrong!
Mommy2ml--I had a stuffy nose/bloody nose pretty much my whole first trimester. Now it's only stuffy because of the humidity and air conditioning. But I can definitely sympathize! Breathe Rights work wonders!
-------------------------
Not much else going on. My roommate and I had a blast--we talked for 9 hours! Yay! Her sisters have kids, and she is a teacher and loves them, so we talked a lot about the upcoming baby.
My parents and I are going furniture and baby shopping tomorrow! Whopee! DH doesn't mind, because he trusts my judgement, and we've discussed what we want (my parents are buying the crib and dresser/changing combo). He is working tomorrow and then relaxing with a NASCAR race. . . . just a little funner than a shopping trip for him! LOL.
As for baby gear, I'm not too into it. We registered for some stuff, but we don't have a ton of room, and I told the grandparents that they can buy toys to keep at their *own* houses!

I think I just felt Tristan's first hiccups! At first I thought "what the heck is that?" but then I remembered reading about hiccups and I think that's what it was. How cute!
I have been having so much discomfort when I am on my feet. I figure I'll wait until my appt this Friday and mention it to my dr. Within 3-4 minutes of standing up I feel so much "outward pressure" in my belly and my back and belly both ache. I guess it makes sense with all that weight in my belly, but it seems early in the pregnancy for me to be so uncomfortable standing up. I've never been very strong so I wonder if my back just isn't strong enought to support the baby's weight?
"Pregnant all over" woman? To me, yes, I am. I initially gained about 10 pounds in all over weight and I've pretty much been nothing but belly and boobs since then, but it is definitely noticeable that I am bigger everywhere. Within the first few weeks people were telling me I looked pregnant "in the face." But having still been a little udnerweight when I got PG I guess it makes sense. I do wonder though if my post-pregnant body will be more like my pre-pregnant body or my 4-5 week pregnant body.
MidwesternGal, I understand completely. I wish I could tell people "if it's not on the registry, don't buy it" simply because we don't have room for a ton of extra stuff and we still won't in our house. Plus I saw how much of that extra stuff my sister never used and I just think "what a waste!" Which reminds me... I better find the location of the nearest Goodwill in our new town...;)
Pamela, that is the moment I can't wait for... setting up the furniture and getting the room ready. How exciting! Did furniture set #2 arrive yet?
Mommy2ml, I had about 10 days of stuffiness, but it started with a sore throat, so I don't know if it was allergies, a cold, or the pregnancy. But I do have to blow my nose every morning.
Jenzen01, I hope Gabe doesn't have Lyme disease!
lawgirl4, I had the sciatica pain down my back and left leg for weeks and then it went away when I started stretching those muscles. It was pure hell sitting in the car for more than 10 minutes at a time!
Nothing else new going on here. I have continued heartburn/reflux, but I am still able to eat throughout the day, so I'm not too concerned. I do feel really hungry and then full really quickly though. I know my stomach is being squished.:p My boobs have had some achy pains and some sharper ones the last few days. They better not be growing again.
Moving stuff is going OK. I found out from our landlord todya that because we gave a 30 day notice instead of a 45 day notice that we are moving out that we won't get our security deposit back unless they can rent the place out right away. I am mad about that... 2 weeks short on the notice and it's going to cost us almost $600?? That's like a LOT of diapers, ya know?? Other than that, packing is going nice and smoothly for the early stages. I have a huge box of clothes marked "Michelle's skinny clothes" that I seriously wonder if I'll ever even fit into them again. Mike has gone overboard though and tried to pack up way too much stuff. He doesn't quite get that with a month to go before we move we still need dishes and towels and stuff!!! Men.:rolleyes:
I'm ready for bed!

Yikes - the thrid tri is officially here for me!
linea nigrea - still leftover from when I was PG w/ DD.
stuffiness - yup.
MichelleRenee - aren't in utero hiccups just the cutest thing? DD would get them all the time!
Tater - sorry about the Lyme's! I had to be tested w/ DD b/c when I was about 16 weeks, we found a tick on my back. Luckily it was caught early!
Pamela - glad you're happy with your nursery furniture!
Hello to everyone else!
My BIL is moving to NJ this weekend so we will be helping him out. It will be good to have him so close b/c DH only got to see his brother 1-2 times a year. Hopefully now it will be more like 1-2 times a month.

MichelleRenee, the furniture from jcpenny's shouldn't arrive for another week or longer, but they're supposed to phone for a time though. I guess we'll see. Cool you felt hiccups! I finally realised the other night that I have been feeling them too.
26 week pic. Pregnant all over? Not so much. But I'm definately hitting a growth spurt in my belly. Isn't it wierd how the baby can get into some wierd position and totally change the shape of your belly?? I feel like a torpedo this week.

Hi Ladies,
Was away since Thursday visiting my mom and picking up some of the baby items she had stored for us. Plus we hit the mall and Babies R Us while up there. I think we did well on some bargain shopping.
At BRU we got the second car seat base to match the travel system we are registered for. They had one on clearane for $9.90, from 39.99. Nothing wrong with it but open box and it definately is for our carseat. Than we got an outfit for 25% off. Will take a pic of it tomorrow. It's a fleece shirt and pant set with a little lion on the chest and paw prints on the footie part of the pants. Well since our total was just over $25 I was able to use my $5 off $25 purchase and the coupon for the 25% off the outfit. The car seat base came down to $8.25 and the outfit to about $12 from $20. We were happy shoppers.
We than went to the mall on Saturday to just look around and see what new stores got there since last year. Well went to Pottery Barn Kids to just look around, since we don't have any close to us and I don't ususally bother to look there anyway, since I am pretty much a window shopper. :) Well we walked in and there was a little playhouse that was on display, we thought it was cute and than we found a paper of different designs, well come to find out the cover of this playhouse and another one not in the store were on clearance for like $9.99 so hubby said lets ask and I can just make a frame out of PVC for them, since they are the same shape, just need to make 1 frame. So we asked and unfortunately the one we really liked (ice cream truck) was sold and no longer available from their store and the other one was the floor model and had to go with the frame. So we looked around a little more and decided that we would just get the floor model since it was only $20 more than a space ship one that was also on clearance. The lady said that they were not going to take it apart, but since we were from out of town she would take it apart for us, to just come back in 30 mins and she would have all the parts packed up and ready to go. This is the playhouse we got: http://a293.g.akamai.net/7/293/5910/0010/image2.styleinamerica.com/pkecimgs/images/products/200626/0011/img88l.jpg
It retails for $200 we got it for $49.99. We thought it would be cute for when little man gets a little bigger, but we can also use it to hide all his toys away as well. We will probably be moving into an apartment or rental house in a few months and if we get a 1 bedroom we are hoping for one with a den so we can make that his room and have all his stuff in there.
My mom's friend had someone make a bunting, sweater, bootie and cap set and also a blanket for us. So I brought them home along with the baby monitor my mom bought last year and some onesies I pulled out last year that I had stored. I will try to get pics tomorrow of the crocheted items.
I told my mom well right now if little man decided to make an appearance (preferred in at least 11 more weeks) that we could almost bring him home, we just need our carseat, since hospitals won't let you leave without one.

Pamela--I can feel your pain on the furniture. . . see my story below!

Well. Yesterday was the "big" shopping trip with my parents for the furniture. DH was at work, and thank goodness he was, because it ended up being the biggest pain EVER! We went to Baby Depot, Target, and BRU. BRU was too expensive, but really nice. . . Target seemed kinda cheap. . . and Baby Depot had TONS. Baby Depot is in the Burlington Coat Factory near us. We spent about an hour or so trying to figure out what we liked. When we asked the guy about it, he said the set we picked out had lots of problems reported to them (it was Storkcraft, fyi), and then he recommended a few others. However. . . the others weren't in stock, or the dresser/changer combo cost MORE than the crib! So, we *finally* bought a dresser/changer combo for $299 (on sale from $599)--it was the last model, and another couple wanted it! Then, the crib needs to be ordered--um, it takes up to 12 weeks to get it. . . Yeah, if baby decides to be early, we won't have the crib!!!! Soooo, my parents are going to call my aunt and borrow her bassinet at 10 weeks if the crib isn't in by then. All in all, it took almost 3 hours to get the decisions done with, and the trip itself, with all the shopping places, took around 7 hours! I'm SO GLAD we went now though, because what if we would have gone in the 8th month and then had to order things? Yikes!
We got back the professional family photographs. We're not happy with them at all. My mom and I are slumping in all the photos, and there is glare on my DH's and my dad's glasses. The photos definitely confirm my suspicion, though, that I am truly pregnant all over!
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Michelle Renee Try a bellybra? www.bellybra.com They help immensely with the feeling of pressure at this point all through the end! I had like 3 last time, only 1 so far this time, but could be ordering another soon. They can be a real lifesaver!
I gotta get that shirt! LOL!
-------------------------
Been up since 3:30am :P Had the worst leg cramp EVER wake me... I actually had to wake Rob and have him work on it - I could not even flex my foot for myself! He had to flex it for me and massage the lower part of my calf for a bit befor eit started to calm down... but it still does not feel right! BIG ouch!
I added some more pillows to my bed and have been able to usually find some comfy positions... though I wake every couple of hours in need of potty and then change of position. My left hip still goes all numb and achy when I lay on it too long :P
I bought the Arms Reach Co-sleeper I decided on off of eBay last night, and got it for a good $50 less tahn retail, including the shipping, so probably saved a good $80 more or less for a stores tax and shipping prices! :) My mom gave me a check to cover it this morning, too, since it's their present for the baby right now (I am sure they will get us other stuff, this is just the 1 high ticket item I asked them to pitch in for)
We went to IKEA and are split between 2 furniture pieces for the baby, but sure about the one to replace my dresser. My mom is giving us my old toy chest (we just need to replace the hinges sinc ethat was before tehy worried so much about child safety! LOL) for bedding storage, and then we're mostly set once we get those pieces and the co-sleeper set-up.
I decided to stay with the sit n stand for now and if I find I need another stroller, then will deal with it at that point... I am considering getting a new car seat holder stroller frame thingy... I lent mine to someone 2 jobs ago and don't think I will be seeing it back... so I suppose if I want it I will have to invest in a new (or eBayed) one. Not sure if I should bother yet though. But I am keeping an eye on the retail and eBay prices of them just in case :)
I saw a sotry on the today show this morning about hotel cribs... they checked something like 10 cribs at various different hotels and at least 8 of them were falling apart, not up to code, and just downright hazards. One place even put pillows in the cribs! and most used folded over adult sheets in them!!! :eek: anyway, just a heads up to bring those PNPs or co-sleepers and bedding with you when on the road for baby's safety!
Anyone been having wacky and real pg dreams? I have been having some real doozies!

MichelleRenee That stinks about the deposit. How many people would have at least 45 days before closing anyways? Hopefully it will get rented out soon so you can get that money back!
Pamela You've really popped out this week!
Ericka Great deals you found on the base and playhouse. It's always nice to save money and get what you want. :)
Virtual shower I'm interested in joining in, just waiting to get my online registry straightened out with the BRU change-over. Plus, we need to finish it up. Should be done within the next 2 weeks though.
------------
Saturday morning I was going to start my prenatal exercise class, but when I took 1 last bathroom break after changing in the locker room I noticed a spot of pink on the tp. So, I ended up going home and calling my OB instead. I haven't had any spotting besides that, so now I'm just on pelvic rest for 7 days. Unless it starts again, I'll just be waiting until my appt next Monday to go in and get checked.
Otherwise, I had a fun weekend. We finally got to visit our friends who had a baby in February. He's 4 months old now, and such a cutie. He hardly fussed the entire day and pretty much slept the entire time we were out at lunch. Plus, it was nice to chat baby stuff and get to see some of it "in action" before going back to finish up our registry- hopefully this coming weekend.

That belly bra looks great! I felt a little relief in my belly just looking at it! I just think my muscles aren't as strong as most people's. I've always been very weak and a little on the "fragile" side. I wonder if they sell them in maternity stores? I am going to call around and see because I would certainly like to try one on, if possible, before buying one.
Here's a fun QOTD: Is anyone else moving on to their second set of maternity clothes? I am! I had to pack my one pair of shorts, my cute jeans and 4 shirts into my box of clothes that don't fit and they were all maternity!! I seriously thought my maternity stuff would last me until October! I'm sure they'll all be great for when I am PP, except the shorts cuz it will be too cold out. I'll admit, I am a little mad about this. If I had known I would have bought larger sizes. Everything said to buy your pre-PG size, so I did. Silly me. So those were all smalls. Do I go to medium now, or just suck it up and buy larges?
Ericka_Jarett

I always bought my clothes a bit bigger than more normal pre-pregnancy size. I only got 2 more pairs of jeans, but they don't fit right now, since my belly hasn't popped too much yet. They were bought in my normal size though, one of my jeans I don't wear anymore cause they fit a bit too tight.
Mommy2ml
07-03-2006, 11:16 AM
michellerenee It is so comfy, really it is. I have yet to find them in the store though. I do know they have a very good return policy if you buy it through their website and sometimes you can find used ones on eBay... but I prefer to buy stuff like that - underwear related - new kwim? I am not yet wearing it regularly, but iirc I wore them through my whoel 3rd trimester with MAckie and they helped BIG time. My MW at the time actually recommended them :)
QOTD - YEs, I have already outgrown many pieces of maternity clothes :P Some do not even make it to the belly anymore - too snug inthe thigh/butt area... some I need oto let the drawstring all the way out already... so just do not fit right and too tight, so I had to put them aside. I figure soon I ca make up a lot or 2 and sell themon eBay to get soem baby gear in return! LOL
I need to fish out the remains of my bab stuff from Mackie and divide it up into keep for sentimental reasons, toss caus eof stains, eBay to get money for stuff for Logan :) I am a little funny I guess, but I had no issues with Mackie wearing blues and greens, but the idea of putting pink or purple or flowers on a boy just does not sit right kwim? LOL
So I want to see if maybe I can raise the $$ for some new stuff by selling off whqat's left of the old (I sold the bulk of it already, I think there's some more in the storage room though)
Anyone else selling off previous baby stuff to get new for a different genedered baby? Or are you keeping and getting more or what? Just curious...
Also... anybody interested in possible trading... girl clothes for boy clothes? Newborn or 0-3 to start I guess... I still have to see what I have, but I will check and let y'all know :)
Almost forgot! - Someone saw me in my building on my way out to lunch today... the usual question about when I am due came up.. then she was like "Wow, you have the whole summer! Take it slow!" Thank you for the reminder and for wishing a slow summer on me (allbeit indirectly). :P

Interesting article... I also found certain things invaluable and certain things wastes of money... yet a friend of mine actually found much of what I thought was a waste priceless and what we thought was invaluable she thought a waste LOL different needs for different kids and parents :)
Thanks :)

Nice article. It has some good points. I have always been one to debate with myself endlessly before making any purchase.... "do I WANT this or do I NEED it??" I go back and forth and back and forth, and with baby stuff it's no different. Right now I am convinced I need a certain baby swing because my nephew LOVES his and it has been a lifesaver both for my sister and for me when I babysit. I try to remind myself that Ian's love for his swing does not mean Tristan or any of my following babies will even LIKE sitting in a swing... no matter how nice or cute it is.
So what to do? Forego the swing altogether and see if we can survive without it, or put it on the registry and use my DH's reasoning "why not let someone else buy it for us? Then it won't matter if he likes it or not!":rolleyes: In my eyes it DOES matter! Why let someone spend over $100 on something the baby may not like? How many diapers, onesies and other useful things could have been bought with that money? Then there's the shopping cart cover. DH thinks it is a HUGE waste of fabric and doesn't see why we should "waste" a registry item on something like that. In my eyes, a cart cover is not something baby may or may not like... it is a safety/health device that I would like to have.
So with this being our first baby we both have bouts of "I want it and I don't care if we need it!!" And "that's dumb... why waste the time and money?" But in the end I guess it will be our own experiences with what we do and do not get that will reveal what exactly we need vs. what we want.
(Sorry to write a novel..... I am bored at work.)
Hello ladies!
Hope everyone is doing well. I know that I have been MIA for a while now. Mostly busy at work and too lazy to get on in the evenings. Now that we are back from a restful one week in St. Lucia, maybe I will be better at keeping up with the thread. I need to go back and see what has been going on with everyone.
It’s great to see that everyone has been doing well with the GTT. One lady in my prenatal yoga failed twice and it kind of scared me since I know that starch is my downfall. I need to start watching what I eat before they schedule mine. I’ve had so much bread and fries while in St. Lucia!!!!!:eek:
My next appt is on July 5th and they will start doing monthly u/s starting then due to my fibroids. Sometimes, I feel like he is not moving enough, but it’s hard to gauge. I will definitely be asking my OB on Wednesday.
Nothing much going on with me in the baby department. I’m definitely spreading more and more, but mostly in my stomach and derriere! We haven’t done much in terms of planning either, but that is OK as I had given myself until beginning of July to really get in gear. We are switching from carpet to hardwood floors next week, so that will be the start of it. Then we can focus on the painting etc. We will order the furniture tomorrow or by this weekend for sure which will put the delivery date right around the time we finish getting things done in the house. In a way, I am glad that we did not order it a couple months ago, that way we can make sure that the furniture does not arrive before the work is completed. So for all of you who feel behind, don’t worry, there is always a worst case out there!:p
Have a great 4th of July!!!!!

Tika Sometimes if the placenta is in front, you can't feel them move as much as if it's in back or at the side... the doc should be able to tell you where it is and if that's why :)
I have to say I wish I had had a cart cover... if that helps :) Mackie was always being caught by one of us munching on those nasty carts! Blech! and the high chair cover as well... ever see a tot not eat off of them, leave a mees, and have the next tot find what they left ew! I agree with it being a matter of sanitary conditions. However... I would say those can probably wait a few months before you buy them... you won't be putting your little one into a shopping cart or hgh chair directly till they are at lest 4-5mo or older... so you could likely wait on it if it's a matter of $$ or space :)
I went through similar with the swing... I decided to get a portable swing... they cost less and take up less space and are easily foldable to be eithe put away or taken with you... if he llikes it, we can always invest in a larger one should he out grow the little one when he still likes swinging... but they hold up to around 25lbs, so it won't be for several months and by then you know if it's worth it, yes? :)
That's the same back and forth we're doing now, even though we've already btdt. There is no way to predict what one kid will or will not like based on another kid's opinions. though I do agree with the put oit on the registry and see if someone gets it mindset as well... I figure if no one gets it for us, perhaps that means we don't really need it? LOL Either that or we're meant to buy it ourselves!
question Anyone having issues with their waistbands? I am having some serious issues, no matter what waitband type I wear it always seems to get irritating/annoying and feleing like it's cutting into my belly. anyone else?

QOTD - maternity clothes
I'm finding that I'm not so much growing *out* of my clothes, as much as what I bought int eh beginning was fall clothes and are just too heavy to wear now. I hav a few pairs of pants and jeans that I couldn't bear to wear in this heat now. And I had a ton of maternity clothes passed down from my SIL - but she was preggo all through the winter, so it's all long sleeve shirts!
As for waistbands...maybe it's just he way my hips are shaped, but my pants keep falling down!! The full waist panel I guess isn't as tight as it was when I first got it and now if I walk anywhere it rolls under my belly and the the bum starts falling down and I look like I have saggy baggy pants on! :(
MichelleRenee
07-03-2006, 01:00 PM
I probably shouldn't even TRY to explain my waistband problems, but I'll give it a shot.
Some of my pants have the fabric band with the elastic waistband within. I have had to cut the elastic part out because it is too tight but then the fabric part is fine. But the seam where the fabric waist band part ends and the pants begin is always really tight and seems to cut off circulation. This is even with pants that I have to pull up all day because they seem to slide down.
So in short, all of my pants are too loose and too tight at the same time.:p
Tika Sometimes if the placenta is in front, you can't feel them move as much as if it's in back or at the side... the doc should be able to tell you where it is and if that's why :)!
Thanks for the input! I guess I will know for sure on Weds.
Though I do agree with the put oit on the registry and see if someone gets it mindset as well... I figure if no one gets it for us, perhaps that means we don't really need it? LOL Either that or we're meant to buy it ourselves!
It's funny, but that is how I look at it too. If it does not get purchased from the registry then I know what it means!;)

maternity clothes - everything I have still fits. I still fit into a few non-maternity things (button down shirts, mostly) and am waiting to grow into the majority of the maternity tops I have. I am realising, though, that I will end up needing bigger tops as my belly is already poking out from underneath some of them!
nails - growing fast, but soft like always.
We had a class on massage for pregnancy and labor over the weekend, which was lovely lovely lovely. Sigh. FH is a very good massage student. Even if he was a bit overwhelmed by being in a room with 12 other pregnant women with their bellies hanging out.

? for RO's - Did any of you like the mesh panties that hospital uses? I really liked them and thought I would try to order some beforehand in case I can't get extras at our hospital. Trying to finda place that sells them near me or online. I had hubby buy overnight pads last year and already have another pack that I picked up earlier in the pregnancy just because I know I will need them, liked that the mesh panties are not tight on your stomach and easy off and on. Hubby also picked up a pack of the pads for on top of the bed like the hospital uses, they were good as well, so didn't need to worry about ruining the bed sheets. I didn't bleed long with my first pregnancy, probably due to not having a full-term baby.

QOTD - I definitely used the mesh things - but they gave me a million of them at the hospital and I didn't use them too much after I went home...but I was in the hospital for 6 days so I used them the whole them there. I think I still saved them so can use the rest of them for this baby...I would definitely advise 1st timers to stock up on the overnight pads and the bed pads are a good idea too.
I keep getting the comment - wow the summer will be awful for you - yeah - thanks!

ericka - can you try a medical supply store? Or maybe just start with your local pharmacy? I agree - the mesh panties came in handy. Not very stylish, but very comfy.
nails - I feel like I am trimming mine every day!
This pregnancy is totally flying by for me! I just realized I still need to call the hospital and get my pre-registration packet and get DH and I scheduled for a Lamaze refresher. On my list of things to do tomorrow.
qc - ahhh, prenatal massage! My DH is very good about giving me footrubs at night.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks marathongirl. I was thinking of medical supply stores. May see if my OB knows of where around us could get them. They definately are not stylish, but it's nice to be able to be comfy, especially after you already feel blah and are sore down there. Definately no thin or ultra thins following delivery, the more padding the better :)
I go to the peri and OB on Thursday. I also get my antibody and CBC bloodwork done. In 2 weeks I get my rhogam shot.

QOTD - has anyone "forgotten" to tell people you're pregnant??
Maybe I'm in a different situation because I don't have a mom that would have phoned around to all her friends and taken care of that when i first got pregnant. But now as my shower approaches and my friend is asking me who the list is, I realize I've neglected to tell some people. Partly out of sheer lazines in phone calling, and partly because it feels weird just calling people out of the blue to announce you're pregnant (since to me, that seems like something people do for you! - like your mom!).
So now, here I am at 6, almost 7 months pregnant, and I realize that I still need to tell people. I don't really know what to say when they ask why I took so long to tell them?? Also, these are friends of my late mom's, so they should be invited to my shower (they were invited and attended my bridal shwoer and wedding). But it feels weird calling them up, announcing and then like a week later, they'll receive a shower invite, ykwim??

Hi Ladies I hope everyone is doing well.
My nails are growing like weeds and are finally strong and not breaking!
I agree that the mesh panties were great the first time around. I also really only used them in the hospital plus a few days at home, and the hospital gave me plenty. I used the waterproof pad from the hospital before I delivered so i wouldn't ruin my mattress if my water broke. I had two left over from taking care of my DH's grandmother. That reminds me, I gave them to SIL and need to get them back!
Maplekitty-I also am uncomfortable breaking that kind of news. I was the same way with my engagement. I feel weird. I still have a bridesmaid that doesn't know because I kept waiting to tell her in person (we were supposed to meet up) and then plans changed. Now I feel weird, but I am going tot have to bite the bullet.
My maternity clothes still fit and should throughout my PG. Most are still too big for me and I am constantly pulling them up.
Sorry about the crazy comments people are getting. I still get terrible comments about DS because his due date was Christmas. People always say...oh, he's going to get robbed. Why did you do that.!!! Liek DH & I pulled out the due date calendar when trying to conceive... And believe me, myself, grandmother, BIL and two neices are all Dec. babies and no one gets robbed in our family. I haven't really gotten rude comments about this PG though.
I hope everyone has a great 4th!!!!!

Maternity Clothes I bought all my shirts big, so I'm still ok. I may have to get a few more pairs of jeans/shorts since its been super hot. Other thatn that I just need to find a couple special occasion outfits for weddings.
Nails Mine are growing super fast, but I'm hard on them so they are constantly breaking :( Maybe I just need to get more mani/pedi's
Thanks for the heads up on the underwear. I'll start looking around for those items.
We got a huge project finished today, we cleaned out the baby's room! It took quite a few loads to the trash and a major house reorganization, but its ready. We put two of the old dressers that do not match anything from DH bachelor days in the closet for extra storage, and removed pretty much everything else. It looks so empty in there now, but atleast there is room for furniture. We are still debating whether or not to repaint the room, so no buying trips for us yet. The only left to do is to figure out where the heck we are going to put the dog's bed.
Hope everyone had a good 4th and stayed cool!

I don't think I've forgotten to tell anyone, but I know there are people who don't know. Mostly my mother (who still lives in my home town) has taken care of telling aquaintences, the parents of friends, etc. But there will still be a few people who will be surprised to get baby announcements, mostly friends of FH's.
A new belly picture... Can this go on the first page, please?

Mike has a pretty big mouth, so just about everyone knew pretty much the day I got my BFP. I haven't come across anyone that didn't know, but I could see how easy it would be to miss someone.
maplekitty, I'd probably lie and say "so and so told me that they told you!" But that's just me...
I had another rough night last night. I don't really feel nauseous but I still get that "full" feeling. That combined with my achy back and the fact that I can't find a comfy position for my belly leaves me pretty miserable at night. It seems that the only way to fall asleep anymore is to get as comfy as possible and just wait until I pass out. Surprisingly it usually happens pretty quickly... in less than 1/2 hour. But if something wakes me up it can take me hours to fall back asleep after that, which sucks.
So I am getting fewer hours of sleep on average than I used to, but I am starting to wonder if that's not a bad thing. I used to get 7-8 hours a night no matter what. Now I am getting closer to 6 hours, if not less. I am telling myself that if on 6 hours I make it through the day without being too tired then I should try to limit myself to 6 hours. Won't that make it easier when the baby comes and I am down to say... 2 hours a night? I have learned that no matter how much sleep I get I hate the sound of the alarm in the morning, I hate getting out of bed, and I will feel SOO tired until I get my butt moving.
We spent a few hours at a picnic yesterday with BIL and FSIL who had a baby in May. Seeing and holding the baby was nice but it made me SO anxious for October to hurry up and come! I try to remind myself that I should be happy to be almost 24 weeks pregnant right now because we could just as easily still be TTC, and that would be much more excruciating than knowing I have to wait 16 more weeks.

Hi all,
Just trying to catch up after a long weekend of vacation ...
Clothes - Yep, I've got some stuff that doesn't fit, but this is my fault. I don't know what I was thinking, but I bought size small in a few things (I usually buy medium.) so a few things just don't fit now. Otherwise, all of my shirts are fine ... it's just the shorts that I'm having problems with.
Mesh Panties - Loved 'em. I brought a few pairs home, and I still have them. I would guess these are pretty standard issue, so I'm sure I'll get some more this time around.
Otherwise, we're just finishing a busy weekend. From weddings to fireworks and parades and picnics, seems like we did it all this weekend.
Gabe took a digger off the deck yesterday, and now he has a nasty floor burn under his nose. Plus, he was acting like he had a mild head injury ... all lethargic and sleep and whiny. I talked to the nurse, and I supposed to keep my eye on him, but he seems much better after some meds for the headache and a little longer nap.
So, that's all from here.
ttfn,
Jen

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!
maternity clothes: Yep, I am on to my 2nd set. In the beginning, I was anti-maternity tops because they were all so huge and tent like so I bought "transition" tops - regular clothing in larger sizes. Almost all of those are now too small and I'm in the full-fledged maternity tops now.
nails: My nails are longer than ever!

MichelleRenee I have the same issue with many of my pants!
nails growing and growing here. Liking it, but I know they just go back to normal in a few months, so not going overboard.
mesh panties - so many people told me about these, but the hospital I delivered at last time did not have them! I ruined several of my own. So this time I think I will get a few packs of cheap granny panties that I will simply dispose of afterwards. I have not bought the pads yet, but I know to buy in bulk. Depends on if BFing works for me this time... last time I FF'd from the beginning and I bled for a good 3+ weeks, then got AF at 5 weeks! :P I am hoping Af does nto come back so soon this time! LOL
--------
HAve my doc appt this afternoon after work.
Had my first bad charlie horse on Sunday night.... it did not fully go away till yesterday afternoon or so, then I woke and it hurt at the top part of the same leg this morning... like just below the hip :P Will ask about that today. Bought soem bananas yesterday and need to remember to eat one daily as many times the leg cramps come from lack of potasium!
Also will discuss going to double dose of Colace soon. One per night with the fiber supplements worked a while, but now the constipation is starting to creep up again :P
I think I am getting another cold. Blech. More sleep loss. Must ask about what I can do to help it go away quicker this time!
I think it is time to go see my Chiro again. My neck is getting stiffer and more painful again and I hobble when I walk LOL The Chiro just totally cures all that for like weeks!
I bought a Nano bag off eBay. I loved it last time, but sold ours, determined to have a spring baby next time and not need it. Since that did not work out, I figured we could use one again for this winter LOL
I am hoping to get the co-sleeper by the end of this week, beginning of next week the latest. I have yet to hear from the seller by email with any shipment info, but she did leave me positive feedback on eBay, so I know she got my $$ :)
Need to get more payment out to my friend for the dipes and inserts I am buying from her. She is so nice to let me buy on layaway from her! I look forward to trying them out and getting them pre-washed and all set to go.
Need to go to IKEA with MIL at a time we actually have money... I believe I will be getting my commission check later this month... perhaps we can go buy our furniture then... we checked and it's a few hundred pounds of boxes to lift, so we might have my brother or a friend come with us since I would like for Rob not to be laid up with either a hernia or bad back from simply buying furniture and taking it home LOL
Trying to decide between a chest of drawers that will fit but leave space above (I would want shelves) or one of those tall units that you can get storage bins to slide into that would use up all the space right almost to the ceiling (the ceiling in our room is 6.5 feet tall at the tallest point). I like the chest of drawers better to be honest, but the other thing could be usefull too. We have a couple of weeks to decide. The cost would be similar if you add in the shelves to the one that is shorter.
Rob is goign to build our changing area. It will be built onto the wall and open for changes, then close back up and be like a box against/on the wall with hinges to let the platform down with a change pad attached to it. We have no room for something on which we could put a change pad like we did last time, so we think this should work.
Sorry so long... very bored and very much thinking baby gear vs work right now LOL

Maternity Clothes: Some of my pants/shorts that have the narrow "Under Belly" band and "no band" are being retired b/c they just dig into my belly. If I put them really "below" my belly they hang of my butt & look silly.
Hospital Undies:I wore these for about a week, so the ones they gave me were enough. We also have one of those quilted pads, and we still use it b/c we change DS on it on top of our bed. DH can't wait to grab another one.HIGHLY RECCOMEND TAKING ONE OF THESE!
Which reminds me to tell the first timers. Our nurse told us to take whatever we needed out of the hospital room when we left (baby diapers, pads for me, underwear, sitz bath, etc.) b/c they replace it all. Not sure if all hospitals(or nurses!) are like that, but ours was. :)

Oh my, I have to say the mesh panties are GREAT! Maybe I'm one of the few but I used those things for about a week or two weeks after I came back from the hospital! I stocked up on them the second time around because #1...they're comfy and #2...they hold in the pad sooo much better than regular underwear and are stretchy enough to fit those wonderful ice packs in that they give you in the hospital. Those are another thing I recommend stocking up on. I got both ice packs and heat packs (that you twist and they work for about an hour). The ice packs worked for the bottom half and the heat packs worked for the top half (once my milk came in). :)
Maternity Clothes - I'm so frusturated with this right now I could scream! They do not make maternity clothes for those of us who are long-waisted and carrying (really) low. My maternity shirts already lift up and show my belly band and I don't even have a full pregnancy belly! Every pair of pants I have are uncomfortable and I can't move them below my belly b/c I carry sooo low that I would be wearing my pants on my thighs.....cute :rolleyes: So, I'm trying to come up with a solution. I haven't figured anything out yet though.
MichelleRenee - I can totally sympathize with your "full feeling"! I have the same feeling. Unfortunately, mine isn't just at night. It seems to happen multiple times throughout the day also. :rolleyes: I definitely can't get comfy at night though and usually resort to passing out also. My suggestion with the sleep: Sleep as much as possible right now! Haha. I know it seems like if you're accustomed to sleeping less it would be easier but if you're someone that needs that 7-8 hours to feel "whole" all you're only getting 6 then you'll be tired. Then, when the baby comes, you'll just add fatigue to fatigue. The only reason I suggest that is b/c that was my *plan* last pregnancy. I ended up so exhausted once my DD#2 came that I felt sick all the time. It took a few months to get back to where I could function.
