I feel like a cooking idiot for having to ask, but....I'm making a recipe that calls for prosciutto, so I bought some from the deli counter at the grocery store. The recipe just says 6 slices, chopped. Do I have to cook it first, or is it already cooked. It looks like raw meat, but I'm assuming it is ready to eat as is?

Thanks!

Yep, it's pre-cooked. You can eat it as is :)

It is safe to eat as it comes from the deli, but I don't believe it is cooked (it is cured). I don't know that it's an important distinction, but just in case... :).

And it's not a stupid question at all--how would you know unless you knew?

Thank you very much! It just didn't quite look like what I've seen in restaurants, and I didn't want to take a chance with raw meat!

Mmmmmmmmm, prosciutto. Yes, it's ready to eat. :)

(My dream is to someday have a leg o' prosciutto in the basement so I can shave off a slice at a time ...)
