Sunday May 28- Saturday July 8
6 weeks
Your moderators for this thread are tgr68 and LyndzeyAHL!
Who we are:
We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.
Want to join the fun?!?
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.
Feel free to join at any time during the challenge.
It’s better to join NOW than to wait until we start a new challenge!:D
You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page and post a reply with the following information. None of this info is a must but it helps to learn a little bit about each other.

Thanks for keeping this going! Beginning Weigh In/Week 1 should be 168 for me.
I was bad today. I ate a triple chocolate donut that was about the size of my outstretched hand. Oh but it tasted sooo good. At least I did exercise this morning and I plan to go walking on my lunch hour. Must pray for good weather so I don't feel so guilty.:p

I was bad today. I ate a triple chocolate donut that was about the size of my outstretched hand. Oh but it tasted sooo good. At least I did exercise this morning and I plan to go walking on my lunch hour. Must pray for good weather so I don't feel so guilty.:p

QOTD: How do you satisfy your sweet tooth?
My Answer I satisfy mine with either the Fruit 2 Oh water you can get (just has some sodium but it's sweetened with Splenda and some flavoring I guess-no fat or calories).
Also, regular popsicles are our dessert now. There's not much difference in calories between those and the sugar free ones so I just stick with the regular popsicles and just have one a night.

i didn't get a chance to update the last week of the last challenge before i left for vacation. I was up 3.6 pounds that week. so much for exercising and trying to tie up all the loose ends at work and packing for a weeks away
so for all of last challenge i was -1.8 pounds. a total for both previous challenges of -3.8. i do so well in the beginning af the challenge and then kind of fall off the excerise wagon.
i'm happy to upadte for the first week of the new challenge
week one: - 3.8 not bad for vacation :D
we walked so much and were so active on vaca that i didn't even worry about what i ate. now i just have to get back in the habit of exercising at home.

I'll do my weigh in on Wednesdays, that is when I got my last measurements & weight taken at Curves.
I'm thinking of doing a class called Aqua Biking. I've been having a lot of knee problems and thought this might help strengthen them.
BumbleB

DelSol-
Aqua Biking would probably be great for your knees. I've done water aerobics before while I was having knee problems, and it was wonderful!
DelSol
06-05-2006, 12:35 PM
The Aqua Biking is filled, they only have 4 bikes so I'm going to take Noodle-Barbell Combo instead. I'll be sure to be one of the 1st to sign up for Aqua Biking next time (I hope, preference is given to members first and then program members).
Description:
Noodle-Barbell Combo is water aerobics, toning & stretching using foam noodles & barbells. You will push it, pull it, float on it, balance on it and get an awesome workout in shallow & deep water.
I've done the Deep Water Workout before and I really enjoyed it, I was looking forward to doing something different.
These programs are offered at my Local YMCA's. When I did this before they were for 2 days but now it's only one day for $60 per class at this YMCA for the summer. I have a few YMCAs that are local to me but the one I am going to is new so I thought I'd try that one out. I just checked the one YMCA website that's 30 minutes away from me and they offer the Deep Water Workout for days for $55.
I'll still enjoy myself.

I hear ya! I was 118 when I graduated high school. I packed on The Freshman 15 in college and 40 pounds from the time I met DH until a year in to our marriage. Managed to lose most of that (all but 5-10 of it) and then gained all of it back (plus more) through TTC and Pregnancy.

Then click on the red box. You'll get a code that looks like this (without the spaces) [ COLOR="Red" ]type your info in here[ /COLOR ] Or you could just type that code in everytime. Type between the middle brackets and don't leave any spaces next to the brackets. Hope that helps.

Walking is GREAT! I've been doing it for years. My Mom and I walk about 3-4 days a week for about 50 minutes each time. My Mom has lost inches and weight and looks fantastic. Congrats to everyone losing the pounds! Everyone's really serious about this & that helps me.
I almost came in here yesterday afternoon to ask y'all to talk me down from wanting Outback's Bloomin' Onion, but looking at the nutrition info helped me with that one :D. Instead I settled for pizza . But... I've been able to cut back on the sweets and I think it's helping.
I third walking, btw. I have to take my dogs for daily walks whether I feel like it or not & I always end up feeling good. It's also the perfect excuse to catch up on podcasts :). The walks keep me in shape enough to still go jogging when I'm not injured.

That's a 6 lb fluctuation, which is nuts! How lucky that today is weigh-in :D. Unfortunately I'm doing some major damage tonight: The Melting Pot!

Okay, I need some serious help here. I feel like I've tried every diet that we can afford with no results. :( I just got a picture of myself from MIL that was taken at Easter, and I look awful!!! I just sat and cried for probably 10 minutes last night staring at the picture.
Diets I've Tried
Atkins
South Beach
Low Cal
Heart Healthy
I've seemed to have the best luck with the low cal diet, but even then I only lost about 3 pounds over 6 weeks and that was with working out 3-4 times a week and no change in body fat. The only other time I've dropped a significant amount of weight was while DH and I were engaged. I was only eating one meal a day and that was a very strict low carb/heart healthy combo.
Getting in exercise is difficult as well. It's been crazy hot here with no breeze and does not cool off until after DD goes to bed, so it seems as though getting out is a no go most days. I have the Windsor Pilates DVD collection, and while I love them, I can't seem to find time between chasing DD and getting housework done. :( In addition to the time factor, I also have to take in consideration my physical issues - primarily weakened joints due to arthritis.
I guess my question is how do I fit in the exercise that I can't seem to find time for? What sort of foods are you all eating during the day? What sort of exercises?

I've been heavy my whole life and the ONLY two diets that have ever worked for me are south beach and WW if I'm not on one or the other then its PORTION CONTROL
during the day I'll keep my snacks to like laughing cow and wheat thins or celery, multigrain tortilla chips and salasa, right now I'm drinking water everytime I feel hungry.
LIZNKEITH

Naamah,
I’m not a member of WW, I just bought the materials off of Ebay (about $35) and do it on my own. It’s been the only diet I’ve been successful with because my problem areas are portion control, sweets, and beer. It really teaches you to be aware of these things and to limit them, while not eliminating them. So it’s something I can live with. I know what you mean about the pilates DVD’s. I had the same problem. While I love doing them, it’s so hard to with DD in the house. Even though Keith has offered to watch DD while I exercise upstairs. I never get around to doing it. Once I’m home, it’s terribly difficult to get motivated. I feel like there are a million other things I should be doing. As you know, I’m trying out Curves to see how that goes. So far, I really think it will work for me. I’m only doing it twice during the work week and once on the weekend. During the week, she’ll still be in dc and on Saturday mornings DH will watch her. I love that it is only 30 minutes. I feel like I at least owe myself that time every week. I loved the 20 minute Pilates workout, but became discouraged when I realized the real fat burning workout was 50 minutes long. I just don’t have the time to do that 3 times a week.

I'm struggling y'all. I put on 15 lbs since moving to KS in Nov. 2004 and really need to take it off. I want to be healthier and more active to keep up with our kids. Plus a migraine medication I'm on can increase the craving for sweets and increase weight (lovely). My dose is pretty small though so I think it is beatable.
The hardest thing for me is motivation - once I slip up I binge and it turns into this horrible vicious cycle. I need to break the cycle and take baby steps to my goal. WWs works, I just need to be willing to stick to it and lose the weight and change my eating habits for good. See it as a lifestyle change, not a diet!

LIZ, it's a whole lot better than gaining!
raven, I've researched Pilates classes around here but haven't gotten myself motivated. Are you taking them at a Pilates studio or through a gym? The local studio I looked at seems to be as expensive as joining a gym (not including actual Pilates equipment), so I wasn't sure if it was worth it. I'm very interested to hear how your classes go. I started a video in the fall of 03 & absolutely loved it; did it almost every morning. Then I got bored with that video & have gone in spurts with others, but I just can't get back to doing it regularly.
tgr68, I think doing excercise in baby steps, too, is a good way to start. Also see if you can refocus your priorities just a bit (also in baby steps!). Take housework. I'm beyond anal about my house & cleaning is a top priority. But when you think about it, your health is really the most important thing, and vaccuuming can wait a day. Once you get jump-started and into a routine it becomes easier & takes less time. I empathize with the heat & no breeze, so Just start out walking for a half hour and don't pressure yourself to do anything else until you become relaxed about it.

Naamah,
Don't worry...you'll be able to take that right back off. It's probably mostly water. Glad to hear that you and DH have a plan. Don't beat yourself if you can't do it everyday. While I would love to get to the gym everyday, sometimes it's not feasible with a toddler. I'm trying to aim for 3 times a week and if I can get there more well then that's icing on the cake.
