I figured I would come here before I call my vet in a panic.

This weekend we were up visiting an area that is known for ticks and supposedly ticks were spotted in the area. (I did not see any my self)

I noticed on my dog some bug bites that looked like a small red dot with a red outer circle (like a bull’s-eye) but no ticks. I figured I would watch the bites for any changes. On a later "tick check" I saw no ticks and the bites had completely faded (less then a few hours later) my dogs are all on flea/tick medication.

Later that day I picked up a magazine that had an article about ticks and Lyme disease. I couldn't tell if the article was saying the bull’s-eye looking bite was the start of Lyme disease or just a tick bite.

Should I call my vet and have them check for Lyme disease or just watch them for now?

We live in a tick-infested area. I don't *recall* reading anything about rashes and Lyme Disease in *dogs*. The bulls eye rash in humans is a sign of Lyme disease in humans -- but I'm not sure if the same goes for dogs. I believe that the rash in humans is suppose to last, if it is indeed LD.

My dog frequently gets red rashes from bug bites. I haven't called the vet...but perhaps I should? I was always under the assumption that LD in dogs manifests itself with lameness and fevers...

The artical was about people and Lyme disease but they mixed in tibits about pets and left me very confused. I'm guessing now from your post they must have just been talking about people and LD.

For a nymph to transmit B. burgdorferi, it must be attached to the host for at least 48 hours. If a tick dies or is removed within this 48-hour period, transmission of the bacteria will not occur.taken from a lyme disease info website. i wanted to be certain before posting!

yes, lyme disease presents itself in shifting leg lameness usually...it can also affect the kidneys.
