View Full Version : Carolina ladies GTG at Durham Bulls game Sat. August 12th

Spawned off a discussion in my journal. We're talking about having the next GTG at a baseball game for the Greensboro Grasshoppers or the Durham Bulls. There aren't alot of options, unfortunately :(
The Saturday games are at 7:00 pm and Sunday games are at 5:00 pm for both teams. There's only one day time game left for both teams this summer. It's Saturday, August 12 at 1:00 pm for the Bulls.
What do y'all think? Are you willing and able to travel on a Friday or Saturday evening? Or should we try for the one day time game that's left?

I'm up for the day game because FH will be home by then!! :D

How cool! We'll get to meet M!
DH and I are totally in -- Bulls being our choice, but we'd be up for going out to Greensboro, too.

I'm up for a game, but it might have to be just me and Mack. Only an act of God could get Marc off of work during a summer weekend.

I'd be willing to go and would prefer Bulls but that's just me.
Also, not sure about seating but if we're looking at August, that's me full term so can we look into a shade seat? We usually sit in the outfield but I'd complain too much! ;)

Eeek, I might actually make it to one of these this time. I do exist b/c I finally met the fab MLA and husband. I prefer a Bulls game b/c it closer, and well after living here for 4 years, I have never made to a Bulls game. A Sunday game would be perfect for DH, DS but I could do a Sat game.

I definitetly prefer a Bulls game. The 12th is the day after my birthday so I'll have to make sure DH hasn't made any plans to go away that weekend, but if not then I would say yes, we'll be there.

That's the only reason Marc goes... soft pretzels and beer
We will both probably come even if Marc doesn't... I guess it depends on how hot it is if Mack comes or not. She's a fuss-pot when she's overheated.

I called about tickets today. They actually haven't even gone on sale yet b/c they just added this game as a make-up game from a Rain Day. This means we'll have a much better chance to get in the shade once they do go on sale. For those of us that already know they can come, I think we should plan on getting tickets ahead of time. That way we can all sit together.

I may be able to get discounted tickets through Duke. I can look into it if you all would like. Also, I've been to the ball park about 25 in the last 3 years so I have sat all over the place. Section 115 and 117 seem to be the best. Does anyone else have a preference? These sections are not covered, but the sun is behind you. The covered sections are higher and because of the roofing the heat stays in and actually makes it hotter. Just a few things to think about.:)
southerner
06-05-2006, 07:36 AM
mb1197, Any way you can get a discount on a sky box? I asked and it's available that day still, but I didn't pass the info along b/c it's more than y'all probably want to spend on the game. But, sure discounted tix would be cool!
Thanks for the info on sections at the stadium. We should consider that when we buy tickets.
mb1197
06-05-2006, 11:45 AM
Ok, I called the ballpark. I am not entitled to any Duke discounts for that particular game. I did check on the luxury box, but it's booked. They do have a terrace box available behind 1st base which can accomodate 12 people. There is another terrace box behind that that is available so we could have back to back boxes if we had enough people. The boxes have two picnic tables each and there is waitstaff service. They are $168 per box. I would say that this would only be reasonable if we had enough people (24) to split the cost.
Otherwise, I believe there are openings in section 117 for $8 per ticket. If anyone wants to check out the seating chart you can go to www.durhambulls.com

Hmmm, count us in as a maybe. Eric really wanted to go to one last time we drove by the stadium. We're planning on doing more PhD visits possibly that Thursday/Friday, but not sure we could stay till Saturday. That would depend on if anyone had extra room they could stow away the two of us. And yes, I'm so girly I need a bathroom too. I know....prissy girl.

southerner
07-07-2006, 07:57 AM
Okay, here's the dealio.
They still have 15 seats available together in 2 of the shaded sections. The tickets are $7 each. She said I should get the tickets early next week. Everyone okay with that? I'll just charge them and y'all can pay me back that day. If you don't want to committ to tickets right now, then I guess you could just get tickets that day and come over to that section. OTOH, I don't know if it's going to sell out or not, so there might not be extra seats in the section we're in. It is the only day time game left this summer.
Everyone please post and let me know.
According to this list, it's 14 adults and 2 kids. I forgot to ask about kids, anyone know if they need a ticket? Maybe it's if they need their own seat  Cynder, I don't know how old your DS is.

I am thinking of coming without child since I will be with him all weekend alone and the game might be a nice break. I guess I would be the only one without partner or child but that never stopped me before.
I know I haven't most of you yet but all this talk of beer reminds me of the World Beer Festival in Durham in Oct. Yep, 115 and 117 are where my family and I usually sit. it's not covered, but it's cooler than the covered areas because the heat itsn't trapped and the sun is at your back. Plus you have a decent chance of catching a fly ball. DH caught one at the beginning of this season.:D

BTW- For some Friday fun, I popped in the Chit Chat area. Totally snarfed by coffee. What the hell is going on in there?!?! I thought poop talk was restricted to the parenting area. Guess not. :)
I just checked out Symposium’s website. It looks great! Now if only I can get DH to consider going – he says that the whole point of the baseball game is to eat (can you tell he’s a huge sports fan? ;)) and that he can’t imagine we’ll be hungry after the game. He’s probably right about not being hungry, but I’d love to try this place. Maybe the buffalo shrimp will convince him. ;)

TriSigmaNC No, I don't work in OIT but work with OIT. Good luck to hubby on getting in.
If anyone hasn't requested tickets and wants to go, I was sent 6 (yes, 6!) tickets for the very same game (for a rained out game we hadn't traded in yet). They aren't in the same section, but they get you in and no one ever sits where they are assigned (it usually annoys me but here it would work out well). They are $7 a piece.
It was you wasn't it?;)

Let's stay w/ the plan of meeting at Tyler's at 12:30 and we can figure it out then. Be sure people exchange phone numbers w/ people. I have a few people's numbers, so I'm all good.

cynder, Would you still like me to leave your ticket at will call? Is DS being treated for his eye? He planned this, didn't he? He knew you were so excited about girls day out?
Oh you have no idea. He's always pulling stuff like this. Good thing he's semi cute. He's getting treated - me wrestling him down to give eye drops. Leave the ticket in call box because I really won't decide what to do until tomorrow. He's fine but he's being a booger.
Tyler's is pretty big and they have this area in the back called the Speakeasy that has pool tables, foosball and the like. Not sure how crowded it can get if the game's being canceled but could be fun esp for the guys.

Well, I'll be at Tyler's at 12:30pm (or a little after), and my whole day after that is all to spend some time w/ y'all, so I don't care what we do.
I'm just so excited to be getting away and being with people I enjoy to be around!

Had a great time today ladies, lots of stories to share I'm sure. Especially Tim's head. LOL
I left my hair straightener at MLA's, you can imagine my horror.

I thought you'd be upset about that! Just email or PM me your address, and I'll mail it to you on Monday!

AHA!!! I can finally post here! I don't know what DH did, but he ran something while we were at the GTG yesterday and it seems to have fixed it.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed meeting all of you. Hopefully we can stay in touch and do this again soon.:)
Off to nurse my (mild) hangover....

Hee hee, Tim's head. :D He'll *love* if this story gets remembered!
I would have turned myself around and hauled back to Durham for my straightener! Hopefully you'll get it back in a day or two.
Nice to see/meet everyone! Who took pictures?
Question - Chris remembered someone was going to Bela Fleck, not knowing I was a fan (saw them a lot whenever they played in Northampton, pre and post Howard). He thought it was southerner and her DH - was it you guys? If not, speak now or forever hold your peace! Either way, we're planning on buying tickets. Let me know if you want to do lunch or dinner beforehand or if you want to go together. Thanks!

I only realized I did when I got home....but guess what. I went to Ulta this morning and was looking around at them. I went ahead and grabbed one, brought it to the counter and told them I was 'contemplating this one, but not sure if I'd like it'. They told me if I kept the receipt I could return it within 60 days if I don't like it. So, MLA take your time returning it to me :) No need for a rush.
What do you all think about a September/October Wilmington GTG? September is still a good time to hit the beach (and yes get in the water) and the tourists are mostly gone.
Here are some weekends that are good for me so I can host:
9/16-17
9/30-10/1
10/7-8 (maybe not, we'll probably take this as our anniversary weekend, but I could take one day to hang with you all. Also, it's UNCW's fall break so less students around).
Any thoughts? Any interest? If so, we can start a new thread.

I think we *might* be up for an October one... depending on how the little one is.

We might be able to do the late September/early October one. :)
Also, I really enjoyed meeting some of you ladies this weekend. Not to say I didn't enjoy meeting everyone, but I already knew some of you so....:p My FH also really enjoyed himself. It was nice to reassure him that you do exist.

Hey guys, it was nice to sorta kinda of meet you all. I'm still getting to know you all but it's nice to put a name next to a face. Trust me, next time I am ditching the kid. I used to take him everywhere and I'm learning that he has his own things to do and people to see. Men!
DH and I haven't gone to the beach in forever. We might be up for it. Depending on if in laws come soon for a visit.
BTW - I check LJ way more and I'm cyndermama. I friended a bunch of you but let me know if there are others who would like to be friended and vice versa.

Starting a new NC GTG Thread at the Beach...if I can figure out how. I'll come back to post link. Don't know how to make it sticky, because I don't think I can.

I have photos posted in my LJ. I had a couple requests to keep them there instead of posting here, so if you're not "friended" already, let me know... I'm atcrossman :)

kam, that's tbell and her DH that are going to the Bela show. Since we've seen them umpteen times, there's no way I'm paying that much to see them again
TriSig, I don't think we'd be able to make it to the beach that soon. We have Thanksgiving travel and holdiay travel to finance and take days off of work for first.
amtaylor, thanks for posting pics on LJ.

I hear that. I haven't seen them in ages, but I remember spending maybe $15 to see them at the Iron Horse. Of course, it was 1993 ;)
tbell - let me know if you want to hang beforehand!

Ugh, Kim, I would have loved to hang out beforehand! :( That's what I get for never checking CC anymore.
Did you enjoy the show? I'd never seen Bela before and was extremely impressed. Dh is a huge Umphrey's McGee fan and he got to talk to one of the band members after the show, so he was walking on clouds.
Maybe next time!
I'm over on LJ (xtacy75), I'm going to friend you so this doesn't happen again!
