I am having the hardest time finding a place to go on our honeymoon. I'd like somewhere tropical that isn't too crowded. But I'm up for ANY suggestions!! So where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Maui for 8 days. Stayed at the Four Seasons in Wailea. It was the best time of my life, I would go back in a second if I could. :)

We went on an 11 day Caribbean Cruise. We stopped at Nassau, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Tortola and Key West. It was awesome but really a long time to be on a boat! I HIGHLY recommend a cruise (it allowed us to see many different islands and do so much!) but I would recommend a shorter time-line. heh heh ;)

We went to Hawaii: The Big Island, Maui, and Lanai.
If you want tropical and uncrowded, I'd go for Tahiti!

We went to an all-inclusive resort call The El Dorado Royale, A Spa Resort in Rivera Maya, Mexico. It is adult only and the only thing not included in the price is the Spa treatments (all food, drinks, room service, mini-frig, etc.) Definitely not to crowded and pleanty of beach! Here are a couple pictures.

I went to the "Highlands and Islands" of Scotland (not exactly tropical).

Have you considered Belize? It's really laid back and not too touristy, has a very "island-y" atmosphere, and it's easy to get there from the U.S. Plus it's inexpensive.

We went to California. Flew into San Fran, spent a few days there. Then we rented a car and drove down Pacific Coast Highway. We stayed in Carmel, Malibu & San Diego. We spent 2.5 weeks and it was amazing.

We did five days in British Columbia - three days in Vancouver and two in Victoria. We loved it and can't wait to go back! If you wanted low key (or high adventure - we went lowkey) than it's a beautiful place. And I'm sure MapleKitty would agree...some of the BEST food we've EVER had (and we live in LA where they say the food is good!) :D

We went to Hawaii for 14 days. We were on Maui for the 1st half, we stayed at the Grand Wailea. I am hoping we get to go back again in a couple of months! It was soo fun and relaxing there. Then we went to Oahu for the 2nd half. It was ok, not as relaxing as Maui.

Curacao-it's perfect for tropical and uncrowded. Similar to Aruba, but less touristy and less nightlife so it's more quiet and subdued. If you are into nightlife, then I'd choose Aruba. A benefit of Aruba or Curacao is that you don't really have to worry about hurricane season because they are outside of the hurricane region in the Caribbean.

We went on a 7 day cruise! I liked it because we were able to see Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Barths, and St. Maarten all on one trip.

Currently we are saving for our dream vacation to Fiji/Thahiti/Bora Bora. If $ were no object I'd head there for a honeymoon

We are going to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam for our honeymoon in October.

Just wanted to suggest that you peek at the website I run as an offshoot of another wedding site. There are tons of destination ideas, resort recommendations and trip reviews here that you might find helpful:

The Honeymoon Bio (http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.htm?profilename=TheHoneymoonBio)

Tropical and uncrowded... I would suggest Costa Rica and Belize. There are definitely places there where you can get away from crowds-- and there's lots to see and do. French Polynesia is fabulous, but very pricy. As an alternative you might consider the nearby Cook Islands. In the Caribbean, Peter Island and Young Island are small, private resorts that might be what you're looking for. Similarly, check out Ladera Resort on St. Lucia. Also, Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda can definitely be quiet & peaceful.

We spent a week on Bora Bora and a week on Tahaa. Both were great, but Tahaa was much more secluded and relaxing. We stayed in the overwater bungelows on both and they are amazing! I'd recommend both!

We got back from our honeymoon 3 weeks ago - it was fabulous!

I feel like with our honeymoon, we ended up getting a great balance of cities, more tropical areas, mountains, and hideaways... I loved that aspect of it.

Here's what we did and how we did it (we were pinching pennies):
Used frequent flier miles to fly to Rome, spent 2 days and 2 nights there at a cute little B&B. Toured the Vatican.
Took the train to Figline Valdarno, outside of Florence - stayed at a little Eurocamp area (very posh, six swimming pools, stayed in a 2 bdrm 1 bath cabin, but only 16 USD per person per night); we took day trips to Florence - 4 days, 3 nights, and ODed on great art.

Took the train from Florence to Monterosso al Mare, one of the Cinque Terre towns - stayed at a B and B there - this was our favorite place! We splurged a bit on food - SO worth it. Stayed there 3 days, 4 nights. Went swimming every day in the sea - tried homemade limoncello (lemons are a local crop)

Took the train from Monterosso to Nice, France - rented a car and drove like mad to the French alps, where a friend graciously let us stay in a cabin he owns. Stayed 4 days, 3 nights - mostly hiked, tried out mountain cuisine

Drove to Lyon, stayed in a hostel that has a private double bedroom - 2 days, 1 night - art and churches

Flew to London, then home.

We had so much fun we've pledged to each other to eat noting but ramen ;) this year so we can go back on our anniversary!

It's not tropical but it was still fun!
We spent a week driving around the Canadian Rockies. It was absolutely amazing and BEAUTIFUL!!! We flew into Calgary and drove West on the TransCanada Highway to Banff. We stayed there for a few days before driving to Lake Louise for a night and then to Jasper where we stayed in a cabin on Patricia Lake for a few days. After Jasper we drove back to Calgary and stayed downtown. We couldn't do a lot of things like hiking and river rafting since I tore my ACL right before our wedding, but we still had a great time and hope to return one day.

We went to Peter Island (http://www.peterisland.com) and we loved every minute of it! It's an all-inclusive, and the food was terrific. The beaches were beautiful -- the resort is pretty much the only thing on the island so they will shuttle you and a picnic lunch out to one of the more secluded, private beaches and then they won't shuttle anyone else out there until you leave! It was incredible, we had this gorgeous little private beach all to ourselves for an entire afternoon. Very romantic. Plus they recently finished their new spa, and it looks amazing.

The only thing is that it's in the middle of a hurricane-happy area, so if you are planning to go during the summer months, you may want to get trip insurance in case the weather changes your plans.

What month is your wedding? That will make a big difference in where you can go due to rainy season or hurricane season.

We are getting married next April and my list of potential places includes:

Thailand - Tropical in the south, more cultural in the north. Plus it's cheap now bc they are trying to get tourists to come back.
Polynesia - Good weather all year round but kind of expensive and really far for us since we live in Italy.
Cruise down the Nile - It just sounds soooo romantic, plus it's cheap and close to us.
Jamaica - There was an article on CNN about small, luxury hotels that really appealed to me.
Brazil - Just bc we have always wanted to go there. There are some fabulous beaches in the north.

We went to St. John, USVI. It was AWESOME!! We are going to go back for our 5 year anniversary. But one thing, we stayed at the Westin there fore two weeks and boy was it pricey. You can get a private villa there on the water for a lot cheaper. Just a suggestion. Good luck...the HM will be fabulous! :D

We just got back from Tahiti. It was beautiful...we were on Moorea for 3 days and Bora Bora for 3 days. Both were very secluded (we did a Beach Bungalow on Moorea and over the water Bungalow on Bora Bora). Some of the excursions DH arranged for us to have:

Moorea:
rent a car and drive around the island...it took us less than a day..but could take longer if you stop to look at shops (we stopped at a couple and for lunch)

Spa (at the hotel) including river bath and massage

Snorkeling at a Motu

Dinner at the Tiki Village

Bora Bora:
snorkeling/sting ray and shark feeding...a lot of fun..I had held sting rays before but the sharks were new...perfectly safe and beautiful coral

4X4 tour of the island

We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel on both Islands...amazing..they remembered us (even knew to speak English to me and French to him)...and were SO nice.

We spent a week in Fiji for our HM last September. It was a LOOONG flight down there, but so worth it once we arrived! The scenery was beautiful & the people were super nice. We stayed at a timeshare condo right on the beach. Our favorite tourist activities were the two boat trips we took - one was a day-long boat ride on a huge sailboat that went out around some of the smaller islands & stopped at a couple of places so we could go up on the beach & snorkel, & the other was a speed boat that took us way out to the Yasawa Island group & dropped us off at a secluded beach resort on a TINY island where we spent the afternoon eating lunch on the beach & doing more snorkeling/swimming.

Fiji was really great & I'd go back in a heartbeat! :)

We went to St. Lucia...it is not as well known as some of Caribbean island but it is beautiful!

We stayed at The Grande (Sandals) which is great if you want a very easy, Amercianized resort but I know there are some other places on the island (somebody mentioned one) that are a little more secluded. Sandals is all inclusive which was very nice in some ways! Like I said, very easy!

Just don't go during hurricane season....I believe Hurricane Emily is hitting right by there.

We went to Angilla and stayed in Cap Juluca (http://www.capjuluca.com). We absolutely loved it and the experience spoiled us for all future travel, as I don't know when we'll be able to afford something like this again. Although both Cap Juluca and Cuisine Art (neighbor resort) often have special packages through Luxury Link (http://www.luxurylink.com).

We went to Sandals Halcyon in St. Lucia, we picked it because it was less expensive than the other Sandals in St. Lucia, but we liked it much better, more couples are age and most of them on their honeymoon too.

The first post marriage we took I would not label a honeymoon because we were accompanied by a 4 and 6 year old, the 2 children from DH's first marriage whom we are raising. We had a lovely vacation in Puerto Vallerta, but not a romantic vacation a deux.
A few months later we were able to get away for a few days to San Francisco and then drove to Mendocino, where we stayed at a very romantic inn on the Pacific. It was a wonderful honeymoon, although much too brief.

We did Europe for three weeks for our HM. Not tropical, but the most amazing trip of our lives.

Recently we also went to Aruba and just wanted to add you can easily do both Aruba and Curacao if you want to do two islands. We also have been to Hawaii (Big Island) and it was wonderful...

Someone else mentioned St. Peter's Island here - from everything I have read this place is amazing - I'd LOVE to go there. http://www.peterisland.com/

Depending on the time of year you are going personally if $$ and time were no object I'd do French Polynesia or possible a cruise through tat region and some time in Australia/New Zealand.

We went to Bora Bora for a few days and then on a cruise or French Polynesia -- Bora Bora, Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Taha'a. It was fabulous! If you want tropical and uncrowded, you can't beat a bungalow on Bora Bora. We stayed ay the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort and loved it.

I so loved the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort! The cruise was fabulous, too -- a great was to see all the islands. We were on a Radisson ship. It was very small compared to the giant gruise ships you see in the Caribbean and a lot more low-key (plus the food and rooms were wonderful). Staying on Taha'a must have been amazing. It is so undeveloped and beautiful! We would love to make it back to the area. We're actually contemplating a fifth anniversary trip next year.

We went to St. Maartin and stayed at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort (http://www.oysterbaybeachresort.com/), which was beautiful and right on the beach. It's not a lush tropical island; it's more dry and arid, but it was beautiful and the people and food were wonderful. It can get crowded in the months when it's in season, but we went in October and it wasn't crowded at all. There's also a Dutch and a French side, so you can experience two cultures.

We spent 12 days in French Polyensia. Tahaa, Bora Bora, and Moorea with a daytrip to the main island of Tahiti. Bora Bora is breathtakingly beautiful, and Tahaa was like our own private paradise. Lots of outdoor activities, but no nightlife. The overwater bungalow experience was amazing!

We're getting married June 3 and leaving shortly there after for our honeymoon. With all the bad weather lately it makes me nervous to plan a trip in the caribbean. JenniferEC When were you there? We were there 6 months after it opened, and it really was like having a whole island to yourself....LOVED the pool, the OWB, and the staff was so sweet! Definitely my favorite! The spa & swim up bar were open by then though...still quiet. Probably only 10 couples. You know now that word has spread on how fabulous it is Taha'a is constantly booked solid. Almost sad really. I felt like it was our secret spot. :D

Freckles - We were in there the second week of September 2002. They were still building some of the bungalows, working on the spa, and only two of the restaurants were open. I was disappointed about not getting to use the spa, but we loved that we just about had the place to ourselves. I agree with you about the staff - they were great! That's too bad about it being so crowded. We keep talking about going back for a future anniversary.

When were you there? Your pictures are great! Where did you stay on Bora Bora? We stayed at the BB Lagoon Resort. Nice, but not as nice as Tahaa. What activities did you do? We went scuba diving in Bora Bora. In Tahaa we fed the sharks, went snorkeling and took a 4x4 tour of the vanilla plantations and pearl farms.

We haven't gone yet ... but we are going to a cabin in the woods to decompress. No phone, no TV, no painting, no demolition, no dealing with contractors, no work, and no "How many candles do you want me to order for decorating the tables at the reception?" JenniferEC We were there Feb 2003 for 12 days. On Bora Bora we stayed at Le Meridan, which was lovely as well, especially the private turtle lagoon and the gorgeous views. We visited many of the various BB Resorts while we there {the 1st pic I posted was one I took at Pearl Beach BB}.
Activities: Taha'a-Beach Massage, Drift Snorkle Tour, 5-Course Candlelight Dinner. BB-Shark/Ray Feeding Tour,Rented a car on the main island to explore for 1/2 day, kayaked to private small island to have a picnic, jet skied. Well official hurricane season for the Atlantic basin runs from June 1-November 30. Not sure about the Pacific.

How scared is he of flying? Personally I would go farther away and avoid the bad weather risk but that's just me.

We went to Hawaii for 10 nights - 5 nights on Waikiki at the Royal Hawaiian (the pink one), which is gorgeous, 3 nights on the Big Island at Kona Village (you get your own tikki hut on the beach and it is VERY secluded), and 3 nights on Maui at the Kaanapali Beach resort. Hawaii is so mcuh nicer than I even expected. There is such variety on all the islands - from city to completely remote. We are going back for our 5 year anniversary.

Wow - I'm so ready to go somewhere after reading all of these!
We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon. Because I'm indecisive, we did the Couples Double Take where you spend half your time in Ocho Rios & the other half in Negril. Both were nice, Negril a little nicer I'd say.
I really wanted to go somewhere unique, but since it was the HM, we decided to go more failproof with the All Inclusive resort, nice weather, etc.
We were engaged in Spain & I would definitely recommend a trip there. :) (Sevilla especially!)

Good Luck! I think this is the absolute most fun part of wedding planning - it's almost as if you can't go wrong!

DH and I went to the Cook Islands. It was mid-July and it was somewhat cooler, but nice nontheless.
The islands are gorgeous and non-touristy. We stayed at the Rarotongan Beach Resort for 5 nights and the Pacific Resort on Aitutaki for 3 nights. Both were very, very nice and we felt very pampered.

It was paradise and I want to go back soooooo bad!

We got married in Scotland, so we stayed in Scotland for our HM. We spent most of our time in the Highlands and Islands. It was great. You can see our HM pics (http://jessandjer.jeremiahblatz.com/scotland-honeymoon-pictures/) here, if you're curious.

We went to Walt Disney World for our honeymoon. It took a lot of convincing on DH's part to get me to go. I had never been there and had never been a big fan of amusement rides, but I finally agreed to give it a try. We had the best time ever, everyone was so nice, and they all made such a big deal about us being on our honeymoon. We had such a good time that we keep going back every year. I just can't get enough of that leave the world behind and just concentrate on having fun with each other feeling you get when you're in Disney.

After a LOT of convincing on my part, my husband and I spent 3 nights in Moorea, 3 nights in Bora Bora, and 2 nights (one on either end of the trip) in Tahiti! We loved it! It was so relaxing and breathtaking! That being said, it will probably be our one and only trip to FP ... not only was it expensive (we stayed in OWBs), but it was way too calm for us ... we are "out and about" type of vacationers! But it was definitely a great place to go on a honeymoon because we definitely needed to the time to relax and unwind!

DH and I went to Cancun, Mexico. The weather was fabulous the people at our resort were terrific. We had the times of our life. We relaxed and were pampered as if we were king and queen. We toured Tulum, and had a wonderful time snorkeling in Xel Ha!

Highly recommended!

We went to Iceland for our July HM! Definitely not tropical, but temps in the 50's and 60's which was a nice break from the continual heat wave we were having in the Northeast this summer.

I HIGHLY recommend Iceland for anyone with even a slightly adventurous side. We loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. :D

Lilla: We were there in August of '02! I can't remember the exact hale, but it was right on the black sand beach, down the path that goes to the right from where the restaurant is (if you are looking at the water). We had a jacuzzi on our lanai and could watch the sun set from it - it was heaven! It was pricey since it was right on the beach, so we may stay at one on the lagoon when we return. Those looked really nice too.

I just looked at the map on the website and I believe we stayed in Lava Tahitian #7 - it was a "royal" hale.

We flew from Florida to San Diego for a 7-night Mexican Riviera cruise. We stopped at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerta Vallarta. We snorkled, toured a Mexican tequila distillery, made friends with another honeymooning couple, saw some breathtakingly beautiful sights, ate a TON of food, learned a lot about the culture and history of Pacific Coast Mexico, and spent a lot of time just basking in the glow of newlywed bliss. It was the perfect mix of relaxation, fun activity, and new experiences. I wouldn't change a thing about our honeymoon!
