LOS ANGELES -- Nicollette Sheridan is keeping the title of "Desperate Housewife," but she's no longer a fiancée.

Sheridan, who plays Edie Britt on the hit ABC show, and Swedish actor Niklas Soderblom have called off their engagement, People magazine reported Wednesday.

The couple "have parted ways after a year and a half," Sheridan's publicist, Nicole Perna, said in a statement. "They ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

Sheridan and Soderblom became engaged last winter. It would have been the second marriage for Sheridan, who was wed to Harry Hamlin from 1991-93.

Sheridan, 41, was nominated for a Golden Globe last year for her role on "Desperate Housewives."

Kate Moss checks out of rehab clinic

LONDON, England (AP) -- British supermodel Kate Moss has checked out of the Arizona rehab clinic where she was receiving treatment for cocaine use, her modeling agency said Thursday.

Moss, 31, left the Meadows Clinic earlier this week and was spending time with friends in the United States, according to a statement released by the London-based Storm model agency.

Moss lost contracts with H&M, Burberry and Chanel after photos of her apparently snorting cocaine in a London music studio were published in Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid last month.

The statement said Moss would be reunited with her 3-year-old daughter Lila in the next few days.

The agency said Moss would be working on modeling assignments in Los Angeles, Paris and New York in the next month.

"Kate is in excellent spirits and looking forward to getting back to work. She would like to thank everyone for their messages of support as they have played a major part in helping her," a Storm spokesman was quoted as saying.

Moss, who began modeling at the age of 14, issued a statement after the photographs first appeared, saying she was addressing her problems and took "full responsibility" for her actions.

Brooke Pregnant with Baby No. 2!

ET and The Insider have confirmed that BROOKE SHIELDS is pregnant with baby No. 2! The Insider's MARC MALKIN reports that the new bundle of joy is due in the spring. Brooke married hubby CHRIS HENCHY in 2001. The couple's first daughter, ROWAN, is two years old.

Brooke made headlines earlier this year when she bravely stepped forward to talk about the postpartum depression she experienced after giving birth to Rowan. The 40-year-old former model and TV star, currently performing onstage in a revival of Chicago through Nov. 1, also engaged in a war of words with actor TOM CRUISE over the issue of taking prescription medication for postpartum depression.

Brooke shared her frightening, self-destructive spiral after giving birth to Rowan in Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Post-Partum Depression. The book chronicles her paralyzing depression and her husband's inability to help her.

"I was lost behind my eyes," Brooke told The Insider's LARA SPENCER. "I was not recognizable to him. Chris said, 'There are women who are happy. There are pregnant happy women who are happy who are buying things, holding their babies and cooing to their child.' He said, 'You don't look happy. You don't hold her. What's wrong?' And I didn't even have the energy to comfort him. I just said, 'I don't know.'"

Brooke said she was able to recover with the help of her obstetrician, the anti-depressant medication Paxil and therapy.

"Ironically I refused to take it for the first while," she said. "'Come on, you're going to take a pill that's going to make you feel better?' I had an image of myself and that didn't fit in the image. I then conceded to taking the medicine. I started to feel better."

Star Jones' Husband Arrested

Wall Street banker AL REYNOLDS, husband of "The View" co-host STAR JONES, was arrested just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in Manhattan, NY for allegedly driving with a suspended licence.

Police said they pulled Reynolds over because he was changing lanes without signaling, then later discovered his alleged license status.

According to the New York Post, he then spent over 12 hours detained at Manhattan's 19th Precinct stationhouse, due to a faulty fingerprinting machine. He was issued a desk-appearance ticket.

Reynolds married Jones in November of 2004 at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City.

Star explained on the View this morning that there was a glitch in the DMV system that said he had an expired license. When they bought the new car, they filed his license plates, not knowing they had to turn them in to e re-assigned to his new car. He was indeed pulled over for changing lanes without signalling, Star didnt' deny that, and he did get a ticket for that.

She was pretty P.O'd that the tabs published that she didn't go down to be with him, and yadda yadda, when in fact she did. But she was in sweatpants and sweatshirt and they probably didn't recognize her when she showed up.

Also, kids in Europe often speak more than one language at home.

Fortunately, I think there is a trend of children being raised in multilingual households/schools around the world. I'm from Costa Rica and most of the kids of close friends and family speak two languages at home and start learning a third one in kindergarden. My friend's child Santiago speaks french to his mother and spanish to everybody else, and my niece Sofía speaks in mandarin to all chinese people and spanish to everybody else. They're both 5 and learning english in school and will be taking french in secondary school.

Then again, there's my cousin's wife...who's chinese and he's chinese living in the US, both raised and educated in chinese, but she refuses to teach her daughter the language. She wants them to speak "perfect" english without an accent, so they are talked to in english only....*sigh*

As far as seeming old-ladyish, my name is now uber-popular, but I remember in middle school and high school (back in the 80s) meeting another Sofia, and she hated the name because it reminded her of old ladies. This was when even Hispanics rarely used the name (I was named after my paternal grandmother). Now it's all over the place and is considered popular and perhaps even hip, which is very disconcerting, if you're not used to hearing your name except in reference to yourself. ;)

Daniel Radcliffe's new love

'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe is rumoured to be dating a trainee hairdresser seven years his senior.

The 16-year-old actor has become close to Irish-born Amy Byrne, 23, since meeting last summer on the set of 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'.

The pair have regularly visited each other's homes, been seen out together and spend hours on the phone talking or exchanging text messages, according to sources. Byrne's landlord, Douglas Jackson, says Radcliffe regularly calls at her rented home. He is quoted by Britain's Daily Mail newspaper as saying: "Daniel has called round on a number of occasions. Amy says it is so she can help him get dressed. She does his hair and make-up before he goes to various publicity events in London. They are very close friends. As to whether there's a relationship, I have no knowledge of that".

Tom Cruise's Scientology charity

Tom Cruise has received an award for becoming the biggest ever donor to the Church of Scientology. The Hollywood actor, a devout follower of the controversial sect, was presented with the Diamond Meritorious Award for donating a staggering £2million to the organisation.

Tom's pregnant fiancée, Katie Holmes, joined him as he collected the accolade at a Scientology gala at the cult's UK headquarters in East Grinstead.

The couple were given a standing ovation from the crowd, which included 'Pulp Fiction' star John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston. An audience member told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "It has been an amazing event and it is even more amazing that Tom has brought Katie. It feels really good knowing she is one of us now."

Britney Spears has been asked to write a Kabbalah children's book. The sexy star - who became a follower of the mystical Jewish faith after being introduced to it by Madonna - is set to follow in the pop superstar's footsteps after reportedly being approached by representatives of the church to pen a story inspired by the religion's teachings.

Madonna has already written five children's books, including 'The English Roses' and 'Yakov and the Seven Thieves', inspired by her Kabbalah beliefs and Britney, who recently gave birth to son Sean Preston, is said to be keen on the idea.

Actor Jason Bateman Has Throat Surgery

Actor Jason Bateman of Fox's "Arrested Development" underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a benign polyp in his throat, his publicist said.

Cara Tripicchio, a spokesman for Bateman, said the operation went smoothly and the 36-year-old actor was doing well.

Production on "Arrested Development" will be on hiatus for a couple weeks while Bateman recovers, executive producer Mitch Hurwitz told TVGuide.com.

Original episodes of the show will continue to air through November, he said.

Pitt's Publicist Hits Back at Wedding Report

Brad Pitt's publicity team is furiously denying UK tabloid reports the movie hunk has wed Angelina Jolie in a secret ceremony. Britain's Daily Star claims the couple exchanged vows in a recent Buddhist ceremony, attended by a few family and friends, but Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti insists the story is "completely not true." She states, "They've used a wedding picture from (movie) Mr. And Mrs. Smith and run with this story on the front page. There's simply no truth to this whatsoever." Though the couple have been romantically linked ever since they played man and wife in spy comedy Mr. And Mrs. Smith, neither has commented on the speculation. Slater Takes a Tumble

Hollywood actor Christian Slater dramatically fell from a roof at Paris Hilton's neighbor's house while drunk at a weekend party. The Broken Arrow star allegedly made the dangerous ascent to spy on neighbors of the hotel heiress who had complained about noise levels at the lavish party. The 36-year-old lost his balance and fell one storey into bushes, the New York Post reports. Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Karen Leong says the 36-year-old actor was "not injured, not hurt, not arrested". She also denies claims Slater's accident was the result of suffering police Taser guns in a bid to coax him off the roof. In September, prosecutors in New York agreed to dismiss groping charges against the actor on condition he stay out of trouble for the next six months. But Slater's lawyer Eric Franz is confident his drunken antics at the party will not constitute a breach. He says, "I don't believe that Mr. Slater's having a good time at Paris Hilton's party will have any effect on his New York case."

Those who think his sentence should be carried out believe that he needs to pay for his crimes. It's quite a passionate issue. Tookie Williams has many, many celebrities taking up his cause. His execution date was just assigned so that's why it's at the top of the news again.

Yup that's him. His character was the reason why they got launched in the first place. He made friends with that robot and told it that he wanted to go to space because no one liked him on earth. So, the robot caused a thermal curtain failure (from a computer at space camp????) and launch control "had" to launch the shuttle or it would blow up. In the end, Max saves the day because he's small enough to reach the oxygen tanks at the "space station" and bring them back to the shuttle.

Well I guess this sort of counts as gossip - Nicole Kidman is filming a movie at my work today. I haven't seen her but several of my coworkers have. They're filming in a train bathroom all day and supposedly it's an alien movie (local rumor has it being a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers)

Nicole Kidman was filming right near my office too, a few weeks ago. For about 2 weeks there were trailers (I saw the wardrobe and make-up trailers) all around the neighborhood where I work. I never saw her, but my colleagues who live in the neighborhood saw her a bunch of times and actually spoke to her. They are filming Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's pretty cool!

Clooney Confronts Security Guard at Premiere

George Clooney launched a verbal tirade against a security guard at the London premiere of his latest movie Thursday night. The actor was in England's capital to attend the star-studded screening of Good Night, and Good Luck, when his attempt to leave quietly at the end of the event was hampered by vehicle confusion. Clooney and ex-girlfriend Lisa Snowdon left the West End club through a side exit where a car had been scheduled to meet them. But a mix-up left the couple stranded in the back alley with a nonplussed security guard. An onlooker told British newspaper The Evening Standard, "The security guard was walking down the alley and George screamed at him, 'Come back here' and then he said 'I am going to f**king have you!'" Clooney reportedly chased the guard, despite former TV presenter Snowdon's best attempts to diffuse the situation. The source adds, "He squared up at the security guard and Lisa was screaming at him, 'George, George come here.' She grabbed his hand and tried to pull him away and finally a Jeep pulled up. I was genuinely shocked. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. You just don't expect George Clooney to start a fight with a security guard."


Sheridan Plans Action Over Porn Pics

Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan is preparing to unleash a barrage of lawsuits over the slew of internet sites publishing fake porn pictures of her. The 41-year-old actress admits she's particularly insulted by the superimposed snapshots because the bodies used are much worse then hers. She tells Maxim magazine, "You can't trust the internet. Someone told me there was this website with my head on other people's naked bodies doing lewd, crude, and totally unacceptable things. I guess at one point I've got to get around to suing them. Two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders were charged after their arrest at a bar where witnesses told police the women had sex in a restroom.



Renee Thomas, 20, of Pittsboro, N.C., and Angela Keathley, 26, of Belmont, N.C., were taken to Hillsborough County Jail early Sunday.

Witnesses said the women were having sex in a stall with each other, angering patrons waiting in line to get into the restroom at the club in the Channelside district.

Thomas was charged with battery Sunday after allegedly striking a bar patron when she was leaving the restroom, then landed in even more trouble after police said she gave officers a driver's license belonging to another Panthers cheerleader who was not in Tampa.

Thomas, who made the trip to Florida for Sunday's game between the Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released from jail on $500 bail before police learned she was not the person she claimed to be.

Providing police with a false name is a misdemeanor. However, Thomas was charged Monday with giving a false name and causing harm to another — a third-degree felony punishable by probation or a jail term of 1 to 5 years, said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.

Meanwhile, detectives are trying to determine how Thomas gained possession of the driver's license of the third cheerleader.

Keathley, charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, was released on $750 bail about an hour before the Panthers played the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. The cheerleaders were not in town to perform at the game.

Jude Law has reportedly angered Sienna Miller by planning a holiday with his ex-wife Sadie Frost.

The love cheat, who recently rekindled his romance with the blonde actress, is said to be organising a safari holiday in Kenya with his ex and their three children, Rafferty, Iris and Rudy. However, Sienna is said to be furious because she knows the break will boost rumours that Jude could be getting back together with Sadie.

A source revealed to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Sienna was livid when she found out. She was begging him not to go, telling him he is going backwards by becoming close to Sadie again". However, Sadie - who divorced the 'Alfie' star in 2003 - has already fuelled speculation she is getting close to Jude again, saying they have a great relationship.

Cruise Hires Publicist to Replace Sister

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Tom Cruise has replaced his sister with a Hollywood insider as chief handler of his publicity.

The 43-year-old actor hired veteran publicist Paul Bloch, who's also a co-chairman for publicity firm Rogers & Cowan, according to the Daily Variety trade paper. Bloch also will oversee publicity for the actor's production company Cruise-Wagner Productions.

Bloch replaces Cruise's sister, Lee Anne DeVette, who took over as his publicist in March 2004 after he left longtime representative Pat Kingsley.

"Lee Anne has done a wonderful job on behalf of myself and Cruise-Wagner Productions over the last few years," Cruise said in a statement. "But she has always expressed a desire to oversee and expand the day-to-day activities of my charitable endeavors."

A call to Rogers & Cowan was not immediately returned Monday night.

The shakeup comes after Cruise generated some negative publicity earlier this year by criticizing Brooke Shields for taking anti-depression drugs and by berating "Today" host Matt Lauer for suggesting that psychiatric treatment might help some patients.

He also created a sensation on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," when he got down on his knees and repeatedly jumped up on the talk-show host's couch, saying his love for actress Katie Holmes was "beyond cool."

Cruise and Holmes, 26, went public with their relationship in April. They became engaged in June, and she is now pregnant with their first child.

Hudson Takes Legal Action Over Photographs

Kate Hudson is taking legal action against five publications which published photographs the actress claims falsely imply she has an eating disorder. The Almost Famous star, 26, is furious over the images which she says suggest her actress mother Goldie Hawn and other close family members are severely worried about her weight. Hudson has enlisted London law firm Schillings, and letters have been sent to British publications the Daily Mail, the National Enquirer, Heat, Closer and Star. A representative for Schillings says, "Ms. Hudson will argue in the courts that the images in question gave a seriously false and misleading impression as to her true physical condition, in that she was portrayed as being dangerously thin with an eating disorder." Lawyers at the firm say an investigation into how the photographs were, taken, sold and published will play a key role.

Paris & Stavros Pull A Lindsay!

Paris had just left hotspot Element at around 2:30 A.M. and she got in the car with Stavros, Kimbo, and Laguna Beach hottie Talan.

Stavros was behind the wheel of the pimpin' Bentley when he hit a truck in front of the car, causing damage to the pimpmobile. As witnessed by many, after a few seconds, the car speeds away, NARROWLY missing a bystander on the street.

Soon after, the car was pulled over by the police, with all occupants standing outside the vehicle. At one point, our friends at the soon-to-be-launched mega entertainment website TMZ.com heard Talan telling police "I'm the only sober one, let's just go."

Then, in the most surreal life moment, Paris is also videotaped blowing a kiss to the cops as she says "We love the police."

There is no evidence on tape that the police ever conducted field sobriety tests on Stavros.

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt in the accident, so everyone can live to party again!

However, Lee tells us that Stavros is not all too blame for the accident. "I blame his stupid publicist for this wreck," says Lee. "He told Stavros to keep his face covered as he was driving away, and then, we all know what happened."

Terry McMillan Confronts Gay Ex-Husband

Stella isn't happy about losing her groove. Terry McMillan appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Wednesday to confront her gay ex-husband, Jonathan Plummer, who inspired McMillan's 1996 novel "How Stella Got her Groove Back." The book, later adapted into a movie, chronicled the adventures of a 40-something woman who falls for a guy half her age.

McMillan filed for divorce in January after 6 1/2 years of marriage when she learned Plummer was gay.

"I always thought Jonathan was not the most masculine man that I had been with," the 54-year-old author told Winfrey. But she says she never suspected anything because "all men aren't masculine. He wasn't effeminate."

When Plummer joined McMillan on stage, she told him, "You didn't say anything about being gay. You said everything but that."

"I did expect her to be upset," Plummer said. He said he only realized he was gay in the final two years of the marriage.

The divorce was an ugly one with each having restraining orders filed on the other and Plummer suing for spousal support. The fallout led McMillan and others to conclude Plummer married only to get his U.S. citizenship he's a native of Jamaica, where they met.

As to why he sued, Plummer refused to comment, saying he didn't want to "restir things right now."

But while the two argued during much of the show, questioning each other's account, they said they are now approaching reconcilement.

"I regret hurting her," said Plummer. "There are better ways to be doing this."

McMillan acknowledged, "I think that Jonathan did love me, because you can't fake this stuff."

"She's not charged with anything," district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said Tuesday. "She just happens to be a witness."

The case involves burglary, robbery, kidnapping and carjacking charges against Darnell Riley, 28, who was arrested Jan. 22, 2004, for allegedly breaking into the home of "Girls Gone Wild" creator Joe Francis and trying to kidnap him, Robison said.

Gee, we wonder where Paris could have gotten that idea. Perhaps her aunt could shed some light on the subject by reminiscing about how little Paris was harassed by her playmates.

"There was jealousy and being picked on and I had to go down there a few times and straighten some people out because she was definitely picked on," Kyle Richards, the sister of Hilton's mom Kathy, relates in Paris' A&E bio (via Australia's National Nine News). "People would hear the last name and she was always a beautiful girl and that doesn't make for making a lot of friends with girls. She always had this attitude that she didn't care what people thought, but she definitely did."

Which means she might not be too happy with what Madonna has to say. The hard-bodied pop icon is taking Paris to task for apparently showing the same level of commitment to Kabbalah as she did to Paris Latsis. "People like Paris Hilton who come into a centre and buy a book or a [red string bracelet] and that's it for them," the holier-than-thou Esther complains to the BBC's Radio 1. "It doesn't mean they study it. It's very hard to be a believer. I'm very serious about it."

NEW YORK -- Michael Jackson will come back to the United States, but it's unlikely the King of Pop would ever make it his home again, says his father.

"He'll come back to visit, but not to stay, not to live," Joseph Jackson told The Associated Press in a recent interview.

Jackson said his son, who was acquitted in June of child molestation, has received lots of threats in the United States. The superstar now lives in Bahrain and his lawyers have said that he no longer considers his Neverland Ranch in California as his home.

"They didn't treat him right here. I know if I was him, I wouldn't come back," his father said.

However, the elder Jackson said he expects Michael to return to his music career — and hopes it would include a reunion with his brothers.

"I'm trying to motivate them to go ahead and do this record," he said of his other sons. "They want to do it, but they're too slow. They'd rather do it with Michael."

Michael Jackson is working on a charity single for hurricane relief with stars such as R. Kelly and Snoop Dogg.

Nicole's novel slams Paris Hilton

NICOLE RICHIE appears to take an unsubtle swipe at former friend PARIS HILTON in her semi-autobiographical novel THE TRUTH ABOUT DIAMONDS, basing a character on the hotel heiress.

The pair, co-stars in reality TV show THE SIMPLE LIFE, are no longer friends, and are currently embroiled in a mystery fued. Richie seems determined to have the last word - making the book's villain SIMONE WESTLAKE the spitting image of Hilton. Richie, who calls Simone "an all-around professional fake-rich girl" admits, "Simone and Paris have similarities" - but the likenesses are uncanny. In one excerpt Richie describes how Simone used the word n**ger after a row with a black man - a reference to a similar incident last August (04) when Hilton was accused of using the word.

Another section of the text describes Simone boasting about having a strain of marijuana named after her. A friend tells Inside TV magazine, "Paris always bragged about how she had a type of weed named after her back in high school." Other similarities include a mockery of Hilton's habit of stealing catchphrases from other people and the way she allegedly tried to hog the camera on the set of The Simple Life. In the book, Richie appears to base the heroine CHLOE PARKER on herself. Chloe is a beautiful Los Angeles socialite with a rock star father - Richie's father is singer LIONEL RICHIE.

Hollywood.com reports that Holmes has converted to the religion on the request of Cruise. Johnny Depp says he was appalled by the vilifying of his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss after pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine were published in Britain.

"The first thing that went through my mind was I was concerned for her, hoping that she was OK and that she and her baby were OK," said Depp, 42, who dated the supermodel for four years until 1998.

"No. 2 was just being appalled and shocked at the kind of vicious attacks," Depp said in an interview Friday with a British morning TV show.

Christina Aguilera's about to get married, but don't expect an invite unless you're "close friends and family." Talking to reporters in Johannesburg, South Africa, at a press conference this week, the singer explained that the wedding wouldn't be "too big, we're not 300-500 people." Though she's trying to keep most details to herself, she revealed that it would be a destination wedding taking place over the span of three days. "We are going to have a wedding weekend," she said. "Each night has a certain theme to it, and the whole thing is very magical."
