Thanks for the new thread!!

Shylah is doing much better today. Only a little bruise right around the scratch! :)

Naps~I know many have mentioned that their little ones are dropping naps. How are they going about doing this? Right now DD just refuses to nap until she is completely exhausted. Most days she'll take a VERY short catnap and a longer nap, but some days she won't nap until 4pm! There is no rhyme or reason to her "new schedule" either.

Okay, well I've got to get off of CC and get started planning for our vacation this weekend. Nothing like procrastination, huh? :p

Happy B-day Douglas and Sarah! :)

I finally chose a theme for Abbey's party!! Nothing like waiting until the last minute (her b-day is a week from today! Memorial Day :)). The theme is polkadots and pinwheels. Her dress is below, so to match it, I got lots of cute pink and lime green polka dot plates and napkins. For the centerpieces, I found some pink polkadot boxes and filled them with tissue paper and 2 pink and green pinwheels. I hope it turns out as cute as I'm imagining it, lol! :)

Cynder- Glad you had a nice time at home this weekend.

naps - we're down to one nap a day. She started transitioning about 2 months ago, and now, it's very rare for her to get a morning nap anymore. She usually sleeps from noon til 3. It takes some getting used to, but now, I love it!

Ahavnes: Adorable theme idea! Aidan has that dress. It looks precious on!

Well, we're still sick. I fed her some dinner around 5:30, apple sauce and cereal. At around 6 she vomitted it back up. Then around 7 she had a massive diarrhea poop that smelled like something rotten. She's having a sippy of pedialyte right now. We tried giving her some chicken broth but she started coughing and gagging on it so I took it away. I feel so bad for her. This is no fun.

Thanks for the new thread, y'all!

Thanks for the new thread!

NapsI talked to the Ped today about strange nap schedules. Sarah gets up eats and wants to nap for 1/2 before she plays and then is ready for a long nap around 2pm. Ped. said it is normal. Some babies need more sleep when they are active, and some don't want to sleep, but prefer to play.

I forgot in my last post. Sarah still has No TeethAny one else still have a DC with no teeth?

That's what I'm afraid of. She just took a sippy of unflavored Pedialyte, I'm hoping it'll keep her hydrated. What else should I do?

DisneyGirl
05-22-2006, 07:03 PM
tgray Oh, i feel so bad for Aiden...Nikki had that same virus about a month ago and it took 7 days to clear up..It was horrible. At least you can get Aiden to drink the pediaylte. Nikki would not drink it. I hope it passes fast.

cynder
05-22-2006, 07:08 PM
tgray Keep her hydrated with Pedialyte as much as you can. Hold off on food for awhile. When we went through this, we gave milk to soon and should have waited until we had 8 hrs of no pooping or vomitting. After 2 days of exclusively Pedialyte, things got better. It's probably not worth a doctor's visit when she is feeling poorly but you could call them to get advice. Poor thing, I hope she feels better.

ahavnes
05-22-2006, 07:32 PM
Tara- The other thing we did was to offer about 2oz of half formula half water. That seemed to help (although Abbey wouldn't drink Pedialyte.) The other thing is to watch for signs of dehydration. We didn't offer food to Abbey until she had gone 8 hours w/o vomiting or diahrea (sp?). I hope she feels better soon!

Sasha

Tgray -Signs of dehydration include no wet diapers (I think it's something like less than 6/day) and no tears when crying. The most important thing is to keep her hydrated. Offer pedialyte, if she refuses try things like water, jello or brothes. Giving her food is not as important as keeping her hydrated. Don't offer her any food until she hasn't vomitted for at least 8 hours. She will be ok on just Pedialyte. If the vomitting does not stop, call the doctor and they can prescribe a drug called Phenegran or some other anti-nausea medication. FYI, it will probably be in a suppository form because she won't be able to keep it down otherwise. I am going to suggest washing your hands like crazy or even wearing surgical gloves when you change her diapers as roto is HIGHLY contagious. (I even got it after taking those precautions and let me tell you, it is not fun to be that sick!). When you do start feeding Aidan again, avoid dairy products, and if she is still on formula, you may want to temporarily do a soy formula for a few days. Unfortunately, I became somewhat of an expert on this disease after Sarah's hospitalization, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask or PM me. I hope she gets better quickly.

Thanks our mods for the new thread!

What are the signs of dehydration?
My Ped said to look for darker urine in the diaper when she does pee, and if it becomes actually orange, that's bad. Plus what Sasha said.

Naps
Thomas normally does 9-10:30am (or even 11am) and 3-4:30pm. But they have been a little screwy over the last couple weeks, like he falls asleep while we're out & about around lunchtime, or takes his 2nd nap as early as 2pm, etc. Yesterday he napped from 9am-12:45pm! Then did his 3-4:30pm nap!! My cousin (mom of 3) said that's a sure sign of a growth spurt. Though he is still on the mend, so I'm not sure. I put him down this morning for his 9am nap on time, so we'll see what happens.
Not to sound terribly selfish, but I like the 9am/3pm schedule, because I can shower in peace (and check my CC ;) ) in the morning, do stuff after that and relax/clean during his afternoon nap. If he takes one only in the middle of the day, I dont know how I'll shift my days...

Sarah & Maia are too cute!!!

Loooove that dress, ahavnes! I wish I had a girl....

Speaking of Bday Outfits
DH ordered DS a custom-made Yankees-style shirt to wear. I was going to do a white polo with his name & 1 on it, but DH tought this was "less gay" (gee, thanks babe.). So our last name is across the shoulders and his "number" on the back is 1. It's pretty funny - I hope it gets here in time.

Shopping
I wish I was thin again so I didn't have to shop.
I need something to wear to Thomas' bday party, the Christening, a baby shower & a formal wedding all in June. And since it doesn't look like I am going to miraculously lose 10lbs and firm up in the next 2 weeks, I need to get my flabby bum to the mall ASAP. Booooo! None of my nice 'event' clothes fit now....:(

tgray99 Lot of good info here. Another sign is if the mouth is looking wrinkled or parched I guess. DH also kept looking at his hands for some sign but don't know off hand so I will post later.

Sasha Sarah looks so big. Sam had no idea what to do with the cake until we showed. Looks like it was a great party.

Tantrum Oh, bring it ON! I think we had our official first freak out last night and this morning. I really hope it's due to teething because I could not for the life of me figure out what was bothering him.

Thanks for the info, y'all. I don't think this is roto, she hasn't vomitted since last night, of course, she hasn't eaten anything since then either. She had another nasty poopy diaper this morning around 8:30. My Stepdad checked on her at 5 this morning and he said her diaper was dry, even after her getting a sippy of Pedialyte. So, I'm giving her more Pedialyte to rehydrate her.

How many bottles a day are your babies drinking? I know I've asked this before, but I'm wondering when I should start cutting down on the number of bottles. She drinks quite a bit of water in her sippy and eats a TON of solid food, so I'm not sure...

Sasha- Cute pics! Sarah looks so big!

Aunt Liv- Maia is adorable, I love all that hair. :)

cynder- Tantrums are in full swing over here also. The other day she had one b/c I would not let her repeatedly poke the cat in the eye (not sure why the cat was just laying there, but whatever). Yesterday it was b/c I wouldn't let her open the bathroom cabinet and play with my lotion. I am just such a mean, mean mommy.

kim- I am off to the mall today too for a b-day outfit (not that I need one, but hey...). Not looking forward to shopping with Abbey. She tries to grab everything in sight.

Birthday pics So cute everyone! Aunt Liv I love that hair on Maia! I can barely get a barrette to stay in my DDs!

Bday outfits All the outfits are so cute as well!

Diaper Rash Well poor DD is suffering from horrible diaper rash. She really hasn't had one this bad until now, usually just a little redness that clears in a few hours. She is so red and raw that she screams/cries hysterical when I change her diaper. The ped said to use some yeast cream (nystatin) and Aquaphor and not to use wipes. I'm trying cotton balls and soft paper towels but she is still very upset by it all. Also her poop has been pretty squishy for a week now, which I think is contributing to the rash. It takes quite a bit of wiping to get her clean. Anyway, anyone have any tips one what to use instead of wipes etc? If it is still bad tomorrow I'm supposed to call the ped again. Otherwise she doesn't seem "sick" but I'm not sure why her poop is so loose. Sorry for the TMI.

Sorry to hear about everyone dealing with sick babies. :(

Tantrums - Oh boy, this is not fun at all. It's getting hard to go out and about these days (unless I stop caring about my child screaming bloody murder in public!). My grocery store keeps mylar balloons at each register and Avery FREAKS out about them for the entire time we're waiting to check out.

OK..warm weather Moms - Any tips on applying sunscreen? Avery and I started swim lessons last weekend. I managed to get some sunscreen on her, but it wasn't without a fight!! She was fine and didn't get a sunburn, but I'm pretty sure there were some important places that I forgot to cover (like her ears!).
----
Avery has been a little under the weather lately too. She's been running a low-grade fever for 3 days now. Doesn't seem to be slowing her down any - I've just been giving her Tylenol as needed. Looks like she's working on some new teeth, but she's never been feverish during a teething episode before. She had the first MMR shot on the 9th and they told me a delayed reaction 10-21 days after the shot is not uncommon. We're in that window now, so I'm thinking that the fever might be from her little body working on making all those MMR antibodies.

Sunscreen: I think Banana Republic makes a continuous spray sunscreen that will spray in any direction. I'd just hold the child's hand and spray, rub in where it lands. I use Bullfrog with mosquito repellant that sprays and that's how I do it.

Sick Babies: I hope everyone is feeling better, tummies are settling and rashes going away.

Sasha: Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

Teething: UGH!!! Why does DS teeth so hard?!? He teethes forever and is just miserable. I found him teething on the kitchen cabinet door this evening! He bit himself on the arm today and left a HUGE mark and has cried twice since I put him to bed which is very rare considering I gave him Motrin AND teething tablets before bed. Come on teeth -- darn it!

New food: DS loves Kashi Mighty Bites, Cinnamon. They are bigger than I would like and harder than I would like but he chews them up like a chipmunk. I think they feel good on his gums (see above) since they are hard.

Sunscreen: DH holds him and I slather it on. I'm not sure there is an easy way, unfortunately. My ped said not to use the sunscreen/mosquito combo because you need to reapply the sunscreen but should only give them the mosquito repellant once/day as the ingredients (DEET, etc.) can be harmful if reapplied with the frequency of sunscreen.

I hope everyone had fun shopping for birthday party outfits for YOURSELF for once -- instead of all of the shopping we do for our kiddos :)

Ally - Yay for mama!

Christy - My Sarah only has two teeth, so it's not like she has very many.

Sunscreen - I generally just use the Publix brand's (our local grocery store) baby sunscreen spray, SPF 45. She squirms a little bit when I spray it on her, but for the most part, she lets me (if only diaper changes were that easy!). We laugh though because even with the SPF 45, this kid still seems to get a pretty good tan! Everyone always comments on her great coloring, lol. At least she never burns.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos. You guys are going to give me a complex if you keep saying how big she is ;). We know she is really tall, so hopefully her weight will coincide with her height. Her 12 month appt. is this afternoon, so I'll find out for sure.

diaper rash thanks to all for the speedy rash recovery wishes for DD. It does look better today and she didn't cry when i changed her so I think that is a good sign. I've been religiously changing her every two hours or more as needed.

new "words" well all the pointing is paying off. When she points to something I tell her what it is (over and over). She now will point to "cactus", "clock", "wind chime", "pineapple" (we have a painting w/ a pineapple on it), "balloon" when I say "where is the X". I asked her where her "hair" was yesterday and she started pulling her hair, too funny. We haven't really worked on "hair" as a word but DH does say "let's go do your hair" and he combs/brushes her hair.

Allergic to dogs
Yesterday, mom took Jessie to her best friend's house. Her friend has 2 boxers. Jessie LOVED playing with them and "patting" them. But when she got back to my mom's her face started swelling. Her right eye and different patches on her face became swollen! That seemed like the extent of the allergy - just the swelling. She had a bath and took an evening nap. She's in good spirits today and her face looks a little better. I can't believe she's allergic to dogs!

Yikes, poor Jessie! You might want to make sure to wash her hands (and anyone else who touchs her) after touching dogs since she might be rubbing her eyes/face and the dander would get on her - concentrating it on her.

When DD got swollen eyes/ears Benadryl really helped her, you could talk to the ped about the dosing.

Exciting! How did Landon react to Disney?

jessiesmama
Yikes - thats a little scary. Good thing it cleared up fast...

Two Questions:
1. What do you order DC when you're in a restaurant? I find I stick with certain things, and want to open my eyes to other options. We usually do meatballs & pasta, fruit cup, chicken breast, hamburger, that sort of thing.

2. What non-medicine teething relief tips do you have? I tried all sorts of refrigerated teethers, frozen washcloths, cold metal spoons (while holding them, of course), cold fruit in a mesh feeder. Help!

Big Day
I put DS in the carseat, he popped out his pacifier, looked at me smiling and said "Bye-Bye" with a wave. he gets it!! :D
Later he took the pop-up wipes dispenser from me. He popped it open, took one out, closed it. Then opened it back up, put the wipe back in, and closed it again, then looked at me smiling lik e"See, I did it!".
Then even later he was playing with his ball popper, and stood up on his own next to it to catch the balls as they came out. I even caught it on tape!! :D Had to call DH to tell him...totally made his day. Its awesome seeing all the subtle developments at once.

And I think he has said Baby & Me...but can't be 100% positive. Sometimes he just mimics my voice, so it sounds like he is saying things (like "scholarship", my favorite word to say to him that he tries to repeat ;) ).

We also had his ear checked again, since last week the eardrum was swollen. It looks good, doesn't need any more treatment other than finishing the antibiotic. But the pain he is feeling now is all teething (thus the question above). My poor boy!

He blew minnie kisses, touched their noses, played peek-a-boo, it was great. Got lots on the digi. Never saw mickey. But saw a lot of the characters. He did great the entire time. Stayed pretty much on his sched. no problem, enjoyed all the little kiddie rides, overall, it was a huge success!:D Only thing, was that there were SO many of us, we spent a lot of time waiting for others...etc.

I aksed this the other day, but I think it got lost somewhere. Can anyone tell me how many bottles/nursing sessions their baby does per day? Should it be lower now that they're older?

rancherswife- Sounds like you had a fun trip. I'm glad! Try not to stress about the party. ;)

Ally- Congrats, that is very exciting!

Kim- What a great day! It's so neat when things come together like that. I wish I had some teething advice for you; we are going through it BIG time over here. Has messed up her sleep schedule and made her a general crab. My sympathies.

jessiesmama- Poor baby! Glad it is all cleared up.

Sunscreen- I usually put it on her when she's in her highchair so that she can't escape. She doesn't seem to mind it really.

Naps- As I write this, Abbey is upstairs screaming b/c she doesn't want to take her afternoon nap. She generally gets up at 6:45am and naps from about 10:45 to 12:45. Sometimes she takes an afternoon nap around 4pm, but it's hit or miss. Some days she seems to not even need it, so I don't push. But, on days like today (when she obviously is tired) she fights like h*ll.

oh no! I'm sorry to hear that some babies are sick. I hope they feel better soon. That rotovirus is a pain!

Jessiesmama - sorry to hear about the dog allergy.

ally - YEY! Isn't it the best?

ahavnes - Maia gets about 20 ounces a day. 1 8-oz bottle in the morning, 4 ounces at lunch, and 8 ounces at night. We're trying to wean off the bottle right now, so we're using the sippy cup more and more. My ped told me that they shouldn't get more than 24 ounces of milk at age 1. HTH!

OK, gotta run.

Kim
1) We went out tonight. I gave DS his dinner from my plate. Steamed veggies, chicken, and brought a cpu of applesauce for him. He had water in his sippie. If I want something he can't have or doesn't like I usually get mac 'n cheese, grilled cheese or pasta plus veggie and fruit (or bring fruit for him).
2) Just let DS teethe on a cabinet door or his arm like I do :p Seriously, I don't know. I'm at my wits end with this teething thing. I would love to hear the ideas of others as well.

Bottles, etc.: DS is down to one bottle/day -- the dreaded bedtime bottle. I'm to the point where it's just milk now, no formula. It's just so hard for me to give it up because I can't imagine not snuggling and rocking every night. It's going to be very hard and sad to stop that :( I know that I need to stop -- maybe I'll get brave next week. He gets milk only now, no formula at all. My wallet is breathing a sigh of relief! He gets between 18-20 oz of milk/day.

restaurant food I actually still bring my own food. I give her somethings from our plates, like tonight I gave her some of my salmon and she touched it (didn't even taste it) and threw it on the floor. I'm still afraid she might not like what the restaurant has and just prefer to have things I know she will eat, plus then I have food for her right away so she can get started. I should try getting her a meal of her own.

bottles, nursing DD just weaned herself from BF on Sunday. She was down to one (the first AM) feeding a day and would have milk or water w/ B,L,D and usually one snack of milk. She's using sippy or straw cups. She has maybe 14-18 ozs a day.

rancherswife sounds like everyone had fun, I'm jealous!

kimthebride lots going on in your household! so fun!

talking today at dinner I said to DD, "do you want some more tofu?", her response, "yeah" I looked at DH and we started laughing. She usually just points and grunts at what she wants and it was fun to get an answer back.

sippy cups do you leave the cup on the highchair tray? If I leave it she whips it on the floor. I've resorted to having it on the table and she points to the cup if she wants a sip or I just periodically offer it to her. What is everyone else doing at meals?

psusna

Sippy: It sits by my cup on the table. I offer it to DS every few bites or he'll point to it. I'm working on cup and please to replace the pointing...

Eating out: DS won't finish an entire kids meal so that's why I typicall give him what I'm having. I always give him some snacks until the meal arrives (Kashi crackers, Annie's bunnies, Veggie Booty, etc.). I always take the full sippy with me -- I don't trust restaurant water.

I've missed you guys!!!
I will never plan TWO back to back parties again (esp NOT with 2 different themes)... It is just way TOO much work... I haven't even been keeping up with you guys... ugh!

The parties went well... I'll post pics when I get them uploaded. :) Nic LOVES cake now.

Restaurant ~ I bring my own food for Nic still. I'm sure that won't fly for too much longer, but I'm still anal about what he gets to eat ... not yet ready to trust all the "hidden" ingredients in restaurant food... (by hidden I don't mean gross stuff like people spitting in food...but, at home, if I make something I know what each ingredient is - what brand everything is, etc... yes, I need to let go a bit. I'm not ready yet.

Tantrums ~ This kid can cry at the drop of a hat, and will continue until you let him get his way. Usually when he wants you to hold out your fingers so he can walk with them ... Taking him out in public is getting trickier... I though it was hard when he was younger, but man... its getting worse not better...

Sippy ~ We leave it on the table, and give it to him when he points to it... otherwise he takes great delight in throwing it on the floor.
Speaking of throwing...Nic is TOTALLY into throwing things. LOVES it. It's his favorite thing to do... he can throw with his left and right hands equally well... (future pitcher maybe?) ... and he loves to play 'catch' (rolling/throwing anyway)... its adorable to watch and he's good at gettig the ball back to ya... but, anyone else obsessed with throwing? just wondering if thats normal...

Nic is crawling!!! He waited until his family birthday party... when he had 13 sets of eyes all on him...he was sitting on the floor...he looked around to make sure everyone was watching him...then he crawled as if he was always doing it ... I think he was waiting for a big enough audience... and now he's unstoppable...

Happy birthday to all the babies I missed... and Happy belated Mothers Day to all!!

Sippy - Bottles are packed away, sippy-land is here to stay! Still BF-ing first thing in the AM, and last before bed. Otherwise whole milk at meals, and juice or water with snacks.

Eating Out - We just feed him what we eat at this point. Still a little baby food to finish up, but DH likes to feed that so I'll leave it for him. Last night we went to the mall to do some shopping and James had some of my breadsticks and pizza (Rocky Rococo's) and some of Jon's Teriyaki Chicken and broccolis.

Speaking of eating, James has learned how to feed the dog. Every meal is now filled with James offering just about all his food to our dog. Tonight was the worst...he kept dropping mac&cheese underneath his tray down towards his feet, knowing it would get caught on the little foot ledge... Piece after piece after piece....

Words - We've got plenty! Mama, Dada, Hi, Bye-bye, Baby, tickle, yeah, and I'm pretty sure Dog. Today he's been saying Na-na a lot, but I haven't figure out what he's getting at. He repeated "Amen" perfectly the other night before dinner, but I can't get him to do that again.

Naps - still 2 a day, although they're not always the best. I think both today were around 45 minutes.

Starting to cruise here, which is a lot of fun.... Plus, he's really honed in his rolling techniques and he can get just about anywhere FAST!

Tantrums ~ This kid can cry at the drop of a hat, and will continue until you let him get his way. Usually when he wants you to hold out your fingers so he can walk with them ... Taking him out in public is getting trickier... I though it was hard when he was younger, but man... its getting worse not better...

Yeah. When we're out and he gets fussy, I give him my wallet. It'll keep him quiet for the longest time. Watch out if I should actually NEED my wallet. Eyes get big, tears well up, and the screaming begins. Sometimes I wonder if I am starting a bad habit.

Sippy I keep it on the table. He never really points for it (whines sometimes) and I always offered at the end otherwise the meal becomes all water

Milk So we transitioned to whole milk. Our grocery sells a from local dairy and it comes in glass bottles. I feel like the milkman. Anyway no problems with the transition and he seems to like it a bit better than formula. I stopped bottles this week for the most part. He drinks around 4-5 oz in the morning when waking up, 3 oz before lunch, another 3 after or with lunch and 5-6 oz before bed. Our ped said 16-24 oz a day is normal range and her personal opinion is that nighttime bottle before bed is fine until around 15 months as long as you brush after bottle and the baby falls asleep on their own instead of with the bottle in the mouth. We don't brush, so we need to get on that b/c I am not ready to give up the nighttime bottle just yet.

Restaurant Oh heck no, I don't bring my own food. I am at restaurant because I don't want to cook. We've been doing mac and cheese or pasta of the kids menu or veggie side items and bread. Mac and cheese never fails so I stick with that and he'll eat 1/2 and the other 1/2 ends up as lunch the next day. I ALWAYS have cheerios to appease until the meal comes.

So DS is being transitioned from the crib to a mat at daycare. I went in to pick him up and he was all curled up with his blankie, sleeping like a big boy. Awwww. But then he woke and was a bear. Ohmigod, the vaxes on top of his cold have made him into Crabby baby. Kim Where did you get your Crabby tshirt cuz I need it.

happy1nuv yeah for the crawling!

sippy I guess a lot of us are having the "toss it on the floor issue". I'm trying to teach her the sign for "milk" and "water" so she can ask for the cup w/out pointing.

I forgot to answer before:

naps DD still takes generally 2 naps The AM one is between 9 and 12 for 1 to 3 hrs. PM one is sometime between 2 and 4, usually for 45 min to 1.5hrs. Since she slept 3 hrs this morning she skipped her PM one

How can I already be behind?!?

Ally~Awww!

Hair~DD won't let me brush her hair unless I give her the comb to "help". If I need the comb, I have to trade it for the brush.

Tgray~Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Jodie~Hope Jessie is feeling better.

Rancherswife~Glad you had fun at Disney! Can't wait to see pics!

Ordering Out~DD loves rice, pasta, refried beans, orange chicken, breadsticks, cottage cheese, olives, etc. A lot of times we'll just give her bites off our plate, but sometimes we'll order her a side of beans, rice, or cottage cheese. I also have Veggie/Fruit Puffs on me at all times.

Bottles~We usually follow DD's cues on whether she wants one. Lately it's been one at each nap and bedtime and one for breakfast. Sometimes, though, she'll want a snack of formula, so about 4-5 per day.

MIL tried to give DD pop today at lunch. I had to practically cover DD's mouth to keep it from happening! Luckily DH walked up just in time to tell her "absolutely not"!

Sippy Cup~I'll randomly offer it to her while I'm feeding her. Otherwise she'll be too distracted to eat. After she finishes her solids, I'll just give it to her. Sometimes she'll drink more, sometimes she throws it on the floor to play "pick up".

Throwing~Ugh! DD does this too. She crawls over to her toys, and throws them in every possible direction. The other day, she threw one of her mirrors. I promptly took that one away from her!

Happy1~Congrats on Nic crawling!!

Words~"Dada", "Seth" (BIL), "dog", "oh-oh" (uh-oh), "oops", "light", "glass", "grass", "What's that?", "this", "There shiz" (There she is), "Where Shy?", "yes"

Cynder~I went in to pick him up and he was all curled up with his blankie, sleeping like a big boy. Awwww. So cute!

Whew! Caught up!!

Spent the evening watching American Idol! Yeah! I'm so happy Taylor won! During commercials, I was doing laundry, so we could pack for our vacation tomorrow!

Happy B-day Brody!

Thanks for the bottle info. Sounds like we are right on track. I'm glad to hear that some peds say you can keep the nighttime bottle until about 15 mos. That's my favorite, although I can't imagine brushing her teeth AFTER the bottle. She's usually pretty drowsy.

Words- She has been saying "Mama" for a while and sometimes says "Dada." She's now working on saying Abbey, which comes out as "Ah-bui-bui"--I love it! She knows a lot of words though. If you ask her, she will point at the hanging butterflies in her room, the ceiling fan, nose, eyes, boca, kitty, mama, daddy, and herself in the mirror. We are adding new words every day, which is fun to watch. She also loves to point out cats in her books. This morning she actually tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a picture of a kitty. Too cute.

Throwing Toys- Umm yeah. It is impossible to read to her anymore b/c she rips the book out of my hands and throws it on the floor.

Sippy- I leave it on the highchair. She really never throws it on the floor unless she's bored.

Restaurant Food- happily, I am getting less anal daily. ;) We went to a sports bar type place last night and Abbey had the chicken fingers and a few fries (that was DH's doing with the fries ;)). I also brought along a jar of veggies b/c I knew there wouldn't be a veggie in sight at a sports bar and I am still pretty anal about her having a veggie or fruit with every meal. Let me tell you, this kid can EAT! She finished the kids' meal (which was pretty big) and the jar of veggies, as well as a bunch of cheerios and a few fries. Sometimes she eats more than I do. Seriously.

Restaurant She usually eats off our plates when we eat out unless it's a place like craker barrel where they have veggie plate on the kids menu. She loves the cooked carrots there.

Words Mama is about all she says at this point. Lots of babbling and carrying on conversations with herself and others.

sippy she throws it so it usually stays with me.

restaurant -- we usually give hazel something off our plates... she doesnt eat enough to order her, her own meal

words -- mama, papa, hi, bye-bye, up, uh-oh, ear, eye. shes also said kitty, apple, banana --- and she tried repeating what we say all the time..

tcp -- i can usually find some cute things there... just need to look

sippy - i leave it on the highchair and she drinks it as she wants.. but when shes done she throws it on the ground

tantrums -- we have full-blown tantrums here... arching her back and throwing herself on the floor with a fit of screaming, tears, etc... when she doesnt get what she wants.. its actually pretty hilarious.

hazel turns one tomorrow! hooray! we're having her pictures taken by our wedding photographer and shes going to the doc for her 12 month wbv in the morning.. we'll be taking her to the zoo at some point this weekend too.. her party is next weekend though - since alot of people wouldnt be able to make it due to the holiday this weekend

Aidan's had a fry or two. Once as I was feeding them to her from the front seat as she threw a fit in the back seat. Last time I leave to go to my mother's before feeding her! ;)

Restaurant: Sometimes I order off the kids menu, she's had grilled cheese, mac&cheese, and chicken tenders. She's had lots off my plate like tofu and veggies, soup, fish, etc.. Usually the carrots aren't cooked soft enough for her (she's still only got 2 teeth). If I go somewhere like Mexican, I bring my own food.

Words: She says Mama, Dada, Papa, Puppy, ball, bite, bobble (bottle), Nana (depends, either her great grandmother or No No), whatdat? (What's that?) There are others but I can think of them. She's really into imitating us, tone of voice and the words. She also recently started signing (hungry, gimme and all done) and is pointing now.

Sippy: She's learned to say her version of "dropped it" and "uh-oh" because she tends to toss the sippy pretty frequently. After it's gone onto the floor a couple of times I know she's done.

Children's Place: It's sort of hit or miss for me there. Sometimes I find great deals like onesies with ruffled sleeves for $3.99 and other times I find mostly big kid stuff and nothing for little ones. I check them out from time to time though, just to see what they have. I've bought her some really cute things there and it's my grandmother's favorite place to shop for her (her store is better than mine...it's huge!)

Fighting sleep: She's never done this before. In the past I could lay her down, give her a bottle and she'd go happily. Now, she cries for at least 10 minutes, no matter what I do. I pretty much have to ignore her and she'll go to sleep on her own. I don't know if it's because it's not her bed (we're staying at my mom's) or what but this is not fun. I miss my easy-going, happy-go-lucky, easy to put to sleep baby!

Happy birthday Brody!

Words: We have Mama, Dada, Hi, Bye-Bye, Up, and Balloon. :D Sometimes Banana.

Restaurants: He eats off our plates. Doesn't eat enough to warrant his own meal, though we sometimes ask for a tiny cup of mashed potatoes or guacamole, and he'll eat maybe half of it.

Children's Place: I've found some really cute things there, but I agree it's hit or miss.

Still need to upload Disney pics., started to yesterday, then Landon woke up!

eating out: I've gotten SO much less anal lately, I'm pretty proud of myself, actually (I was pretty bad!). Depending on where we go, I will usually order him mac n cheese, grilled cheese, chicken tenders, veggies, fresh fruit, pasta, quesadilla, etc. It's actually been so much easier not having to take all the crap to feed him. I do still carry a fruit and veggie w/ me almost everywhere, just in case.

children's place: I haven't really found anything in there, except for that adorable little romper I think a lot of us had when they were itty, that said "Hello, I'm ______, and his said Snuggable." That was pretty cute, but typically, it's tough to find anything in there.

teething: Feeling for all you mama's dealing w/ teething. Landon now has 13 teeth, so I think we're done for a while!

Cynder: WOW...No more crib at day care? I'm not sure how Landon would do w/ that!

Words: Not many..still no mama, he does say, da-da (constantly!) dog, bye, catch (he and dh play catch all the time!) eye, and I think that's it.

Happy Birthday to Brody!!!

Almost to June!!! I can't believe it. A year ago tomorrow was my actual due date...HA! Little did I know I'd have to wait another 9 days for the little man to come!!! Last year at this time, I was SURE my water would break at any second! :p

Happy Birthday, Brody!

Eating out - Avery is in the doesn't eat enough to make ordering her own thing worth it crowd, so she eats off our plates. I have to say that I've been giving her fries now for a while :o, although she typically won't eat more than one during a meal.

Words - Mama came into the vocab just this last week (what an awesome thing to hear!!). She also says Dada, ball, bubbles, kitty cat, meow, okee dokee (LOL), okay, yeah, and up. She's been saying some other things that I haven't been able to figure out yet (might be 'see') and I think I hear something close to "this" and "that". The other day we passed a display of watermelons at the grocery store. She got so excited and started shouting "BALL!! BALL!! BALL!!!" while pointing at the melons - it was adorable. :)

Children's Place - I tend to like some of the bigger kid stuff more than the baby clothes. I have some awesome hand-me-down Children's Place pants for Avery that I ADORE, but I haven't found anything else like them there recently. They are black, flare-leg stretch pants. Kind-of look like yoga pants for babies and they magically don't attract lint and cat-hair like most other black clothing. In fact, I wish I had a pair of black pants like that!!

Sleep - I'm feeling for everyone else having trouble. We've had a nightmare week or so of just terrible nighttime sleep problems. First of all, Avery was running a low-grade fever for a few days. I think a delayed reaction to the MMR shot, so she would wake up from being too hot/uncomfortable. Then she got a cold/runny nose, so she'd wake up to nurse and then get mad because the congestion prevented her from getting a good fill. That would get her all the way awake and she'd just stay up for 3 hours (in the middle of the night). I think she's also working on some teeth on top of all that, so if she wasn't getting up and staying up she was waking up every 45 minutes or something equally rediculous. Thankfully, we had our first "NORMAL" night last night where she went down quietly and woke just once. Unfortunately, she was up for the day at 4:15 , but I'd rather that then her getting up for hours in the dead of night or getting up hourly or any of the other late night antics she's been pulling over the last week and a half.

Happy Birthday Brody!

eating out - I used to give her whatever was on my plate, but now, I order something for her. Grilled cheese, quesadilla, pasta, etc.

words - mama, daddy, coco (our dog), lailey (Bailey, our other dog), gentil (French for gentle), sa (French for "that"), whassat? (what's that), whassis? (what's this), baby, bobble (bottle), nam-nam (hungry), do-do (sleepy), night-night, bye-bye, uh-oh! She has an incredible lisp, which I find adorable :p . Anyone else's DC have a lisp?

sleep - my super-sleeper is no more!!! She took a 45 minute nap today - that's IT! I'm used to her sleeping 3 hours in a row during her nap. Needless to say, I'm tired! She just went down for the night at 6:45, thank goodness. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that she won't wake up.

teething - she has 2 top teeth coming in at the same time right now (this is probably why she's not sleeping as well). Poor thing...I can tell these hurt!

sippy - she likes to throw it on the floor too, so I hand it to her when she points to it.

Tomorrow, we pack to go on our week-long trip! YEY! Our first vacation since she's been born, and I can't wait. Still trying to figure out how we're going to fit everything in my car (we don't have an SUV, and I wish we did right now).

If I'm not on before we leave, I hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend!! Safe travels to all who are travelling.

Cynder: Thanks for posting about the mat at daycare and your peds advice about the bed bottle ok until 15 months. That makes me feel a lot better that I can put it off a little while longer:rolleyes:

Children's Place: The only thing that I've purchased there are their lightweight footed pajamas that zip.

Teething: Got visual confirmation tonight that he is indeed cutting the top two eye teeth. They look so close...maybe a few more days...

Words: Dada, Mom-Mom, Pup-Pup, up, bye-bye, go, dog, Spike (il's dog), did it

Happy Birthday Brody!!

Sleeping: Nic's another one thats been sleeping like crap lately... but I think we're working on FOUR teeth (he has two top, two bottom... i think he's getting the 4 surrounding those now)... ugh! He also can't make up his mind if he's going to take 1 nap or two... we go back and forth... it makes getting out anywhere and planning our days HORRIBLE... ah well...

Words: Just dada, dad ... loud, proud and often. Although, I think he's said i love you too... but usually its just dad or dada... we play a game. I say mama/mom, and he says dada/dad. The louder i say mine, the louder he says his...its actually kinda cute. (and he matches me...like if i say mama, he'll say dada ... versus mom/dad... )

Anyone read any good toddler behaviour books? I have the happiest toddler on the block dvd from the library, but haven't watched it yet... anyone have any recoommendations?

And... was the children's place coupon online somewhere or did you get it in the mail? I agree...hit or miss there... but they sometimes have some good sales at the outlet...

Just saw that there was a new thread. No time to catch up but wanted to subscribe so I didn't miss out on anything.

Had a rough day today (too many things went wrong and too time consuming to list everything). My dad was taken off hospice (not at our request) last week and having to deal with all that mess. And a few other issues. It's enough to want to make you pull your hair out (or at least it does for me).

Good news is that DD doesn't have Lyme disease. Her bloodwork all came back just fine. What a relief that is. Anyone know what kind of bug repellent you can use on toddlers/babies (just not ready to give up that title just yet)?

I use this:

http://a1468.g.akamai.net/f/1468/580/1d/pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/150770/300.jpg

You can use it on kids older than 6 months old. The label says "For continued protection from mosquitoes, reapply after 8 hours. For sunscreen protection, reapply after toweling off or as needed. Do not exceed 7 applications per day for adults, 3 applications per day for children."

ETA: It's DEET free.

Happy Birthday Brody!

Well we finally got our new computer!! It's such a relief after our slow as molasses laptop.

Children's Place- Definitely hit or miss, but every once in a while there's something cute.

Throwing- He throws really well- he has a mini-Nerf football that's one of his favorite toys.

Eating in restaurants- We have to lug along the baby food still. DS still won't eat table food.

Bottles- Along the same lines, DS is still drinking from bottles, as well as nursing a couple times a day. He also drinks from a sippy, but admittedly, we have not been pushing it. I brought it up to DH, but he's resistant to push too many "eating style" changes at once- we'll get him to eat real food, then we'll tackle the other.

Words- Dada, dad, mama, hey, num-num. And (confession time), he copied me when I said a certain naughty word. Oops. :o He doesn't point to things if we ask him to, but he points all the time if he wants something. Stubborn little guy! He does follow direction pretty well- ("take off your shoes", "get the football", "brush your hair", "give me a hug/kiss").

ETA- Sorry about your rough week, but glad that your DD doesn't have Lymes Disease!

Ok this is a long story but I will try to make as simple as I can.

My little girl who has just turned one went to her doctor for her shots. Well it has been three months since she had been. In those three months our health department suggested that we get our kids on Tenncare which is an insurance that the government pays for, even though we have a primary insurance through my DH employer. The health department told me that the tenncare would help us out with our co payment and since our money situation is really tough right now I thought it would be a good idea. Anyway, while we were at Emily's Doctor appointment I showed them my two insurance cards since they ask for it every time. I gave them like I normally do our primary insurance card and this time along with the new tenncare card. She made a copy of the cards and my little girl got her shots.

Emily has been sick the last few days with a temperature so I called her doctor yesterday to get her in to see someone. While I was on the phone with the receptionist she says I do have a 11:30 appt. I said that would be fine, she then got my little girls name and then she told me to hold on. She got back on the phone and said "I'm sorry we can no longer see her" I said what? Why? She said it is because you are on Tenncare. I said Tenncare is my secondary insurance I do have a primary insurance through my husbands employer. She said I'm sorry we can no longer see her. Then she could tell I'm getting irate at this point so she gets her office manager on the phone. The office manager says I'm sorry it is our rules and I didn't make the rules. We can no longer see your children. I then said well this won't be the last time you hear from me. I hung the phone up. I then called Tenncare and told the rep what happened and he called Emily's doctor office, while I was on hold and the rep also talked to the office manager. The office manager told the rep the same thing. The rep gets on the phone with me and tell me that they are breaking the law. I don't know the laws. The reps says that he needs my permission to pursue it. I said sure.

However, my three kids are now without a doctor and I'm really upset about the whole situation. I feel like I have been discriminated against since we are a low income family. Since, I have a primary insurance I don't feel like I should see a "second best doctor" Does that makes sense? I have thought about calling and see if I can just drop the tenncare and just use my primary insurance however I feel like I can't go back to see those pediatrics now.

I just wished we had more of options around here with doctors but we don't.
What would ya'll do?

Misty911
05-25-2006, 10:27 PM
I forgot to mention, My DH did call and left a message with the receptionist for our Dr to give us a call. He did call us back and he told my DH the same thing that they can't see us since we have that secondary insurance. He also told my DH that the office manager told the Dr that I was told that when Emily got her shots. Which I was not told that when I gave the receptionist our card. The Dr also was told that I had cussed the office staff so therefore I'm not welcome at their facility, which is also a lie! I did not say one cussed word. I don't cuss at all. However, I did let her know that I was upset and she knew that I was irate.

kimthebride

Misty911
I'll cuss on your behalf: what a bunch of fing assholes!! Discrimination, breaking the law, lying....those SOBs deserve what is coming to them. See if you can report them through some sort of government agency, BBB, etc. They are a children's healthcare organization, and need to get their act together. Write down who you spoke to, when, what was said. They may record their phone calls (though I doubt it if they were saying no on the phone and it is illegal for them to deny you).

In the meantime, call your 2 insurers for local Ped recommendations and tell them that your current Ped is refusing to see you now because of your Tenncare coverage. Maybe they know who you can report them to.

I am so sorry you are in this situation. The whole insurance thing makes me irate, because we have the richest nation yet lack the most basic need: health care for everyone. Don't get me started.

Anyway....maybe there are Peds at a local hospital you can see? Or private practices you don't know about in town? Or the insurers have a recently updated list of Peds in your county?

Happy birthday, Hazel!

Misty911 - Sorry to hear about the dr office troubles. What they are doing is disgusting. Do you have a human interest/investigative reporter at your local news station? Maybe someone at your local TV station would be interested in doing a news story on this. This seems like the kind of story that they'd jump all over where I live. It probably won't help you get back to see your current ped (kind of sounds like this is out of the question either way though :(), but maybe the office would face some consequences legally and otherwise.

cynder
05-26-2006, 08:41 AM
Misty If they don't treat Tenncare customers then why did they allow her to get her shots in the first place. Do they have an excuse for that because they took photocopies of the 2 cards, right? I think at this point for the sake of making sure you have a ped right now, see which peds are available and will accept both insurers. There has to be somebody, I would hope.

Happy B-day Hazel!

A year ago today was my due date (and rancherswife's). :) I was so upset when the day passed and my little monkey was still comfortably resting in the mommy condo. I cannot believe her b-day is Monday! Time really does fly.

usawife- I'm sorry about your dad and your other issues, but am glad that DD is healthy.

Misty- So sorry about your doctor issues. That is so frustrating!

Ally- I agree with you that french fries are the best food ever. The ones we gave Abbey were curly fries, the ultimate! :)

teething- We are teething in full force right now as well. In fact, this morning I noticed that Abbey has chewed off a good amount of the paint on her crib. Nice.

Misty: I'm so sorry. That totally sux. I agree with Kim that you need to find someplace to file a complaint.

usafwife: I hope that you can find some peace this weekend. I'm sorry you have so many things on your plate right now.

teething: Add us to those in teething misery. DS bites his hand so hard :( I can see the top two eye teeth, however in the past when I could see the teeth that close it still took 3-4 days for them to break through. He will have 6 on the top and still 2 only on the bottom. It's miserable for him :(

I'm blowing steam out of my ears, my mail lady came to the door this morning with a certified letter. They sent me a letter to let me know they have dropped my children as patients. However it does say we will continue seeing your children if an emergency arises until 06-24-06. Then why wouldn't they see Emily when I called???? It was an emergency to me. I know that is just an legal issue that they had to put in the letter. I really wished I had our phone converstation recorded! It makes me want to send a certified letter to them. My DH just says who cares lets just get another doctor. I can't just blow it off.

tgray ~ Thanks, I'll have to look for that around here. Does it work for ticks?

Children's Place ~ We got a cute yellow dress and hat in the spring. We found a lot of cute outfits but were on a mission to find an Easter dress.

Eating Out ~ We take baby food but we will also give DD some food off our plates depending upon what we are eating.

jrdhbunny ~ Thanks.

Misti ~ I'd definitely be contacting someone. That just isn't right that they did that. I know someone who had insurance through their work but also had a state insurance. They told the parents at the doctor's office that the state insurance had to be primary on the child. They didn't think so but that's what the office told them.

If there was a problem then they should have said something when your little girl got her shots. Not wait until you call back to get an appointment after the shots or decide to send a letter then. Diedra has a good idea about contacting a local reporter and telling them what happened. I'm quite sure that it's just the story that some reporters would jump on to expose.

Hope it all works out. Keep us updated as to what happens. {{{HUGS}}}

Happy Birthday, Hazel and Alexa
Happy Birthday to any other little ones I missed while I wasn't here.

ally ~ I can relate to how you are feeling. We went through a bout of teething earlier this month. It was horrible. It was three of her top teeth (including both eye teeth). Hope it passes quickly. {{{HUGS}}}

ahavnes ~ Thank you. We are very greatful that the results came back just fine. Hope the teething passes quickly.

psusna ~ Thank you. I guess I can count the time at therapy as relaxation time but I know that after today's session my arm is really going to hurt (already been forwarned the other day). I hate the eye teeth. I think they are the absolute worst! Hope they don't take too long to come in.

misty911 my jaw dropped when I read your post. How absolutely wrong! I know my peds office has a sign that says something about not denying anyone vaxes, even if they can't pay. I wonder if that is why they gave them to your DD (which still doesn't make sense b/c you have insurancce). But they should have explained. I wonder if your local Better Business Bureau or Attorney General's office could help. diedra has a great idea about contacting your local TV station. Our local FOX network has "Fox Undercover". HELP!

Sorry no shout-outs, but...

DS is getting Baptised next week and I just got some documents from the church. It mentions a "baptismal candle" as being an integral part of the ceremony...is this something I bring? Where the heck does one buy a baptismal candle??
If it matters, it is a Catholic church.

Ak! I am so unprepared....

Kim: We are not catholic but a baptism candle was part of DS' ceremony as well. It was given to him on that day. What it is is a decorated stick candle that you are to light the day he is baptized and light again each year on the anniversary of the baptism. I would think that any Christian Book Store would definitely have them in stock.

I did a quick Google for you and here are some available online (http://www.churchcandlesonline.com/index.php/cPath/29_84).

Just a quick drive by post. Our neverending drama continues as I actually have been in the hospital since Thursday, and just got out this afternoon. I was admitted with severe abdominal pain and they thought it was my appendix but it turned out to be a bacterial infection in my stomach, caused by some antibiotics I was taking for a sinus infection. It was horrible but the worst part was definitely be separated from Sarah for so long. Still feeling very weak (I didn't eat from Wed. PM until this afternoon!), but much happier now that I am home.

Here are Sarah's 12 month stats:

22 lbs (75%)
30 inches (75%)
HC - 17 inches (25%)
LOL, I have a large child with a small head! The ped. really couldn't get over how well Sarah has developed and gained weight considering what a peanut she was and some of the problems we've been through with her. But she was thrilled to see her thriving :)

Wow! Lots to catch up on!

Happy Birthday late-May babies!!

Children's Place~I have found several things there that I really like.

Fighting Sleep~Ugh!! She has done this since day one, but here lately it has been ten times worse! :( It's a real fight some days to get her to nap.

Nightmare~DD had her first nightmare last night while we were on vacation. She woke up crying so bad. We gave her a bottle and put her back down to see if that would help. After her bottle, she woke up crying again. DH and I went in to get her, but she didn't want anything to do with me. :( DH brought her to bed with us where she cuddled with us for about half an hour. Then she started pushing us away and wanting to play. After about an hour of her being in bed with us, we put her back down, and she slept fine the rest of the night.

Misty~How awful about the dr's office drama!

Happy Birthday to all the late-May babies!

Teething~Still no teething, but she has been chewing on everything in sight!!

Father's Day~I read over in the gifts threads that one mom took a picture in a girls XL shirt that said "Daddy's Girl" starting with her husband's first FD and will continue to do so until she outgrows the shirt. I think we'll be doing that. ;)

Bumps/Bruises~After her run-in with the dog last week, she bumped her cheek on my aunt's coffee table then accidently got scratched by MIL's cousin's dogs. :( Luckily, she only had a mild bruise from the coffee table bump though.

Party~Still need to:
*Buy pool.
*Settle on a menu.

Our weekend was good. We got to see my aunt & uncles, MIL's cousins, and FIL's brother. We also visited a in aunt & uncles hometown in TX and the Museum of Natural History in Norman, OK. We also did some major shopping! :D

Well, off to catch up on other journals! Hope you are all having a great long weekend!

Thank you girls so much for the birthday wishes. Abbey had the best day of her life I think. Seriously, I have never seen my little girl so consistently happy (with only a short nap) for the whole day. The only bummer was that our cute decorations went mostly unnoticed b/c of the crappy weather outside, but oh well. ;)

I, on the other hand, had some trouble today. For some reason I felt strangely emotional about Abbey's b-day. I even cried a little on the way to pick up her cakes this morning (I didn't even cry at my wedding!). I can't really put my finger on why I feel so emotional. Maybe it's b/c she's not my little "baby" anymore. I know this is silly, b/c really she only ages one day at a time and is no different than she was yesterday. Logically I know that the second year will be wonderful as well, but a little part of me is so sad that her "infancy" is over. What happened to the jaundiced, hungry, cuddly little baby that I brought home a year ago? Maybe I am just being nostalgic and am romanticising the last year....b/c not only has it been the best year of my life, but also the most challenging. I mean, remember colic?

Sasha- You poor thing! I worry about you when you don't post for a few days, b/c it usually means that someone is sick. :o I hope you are feeling better!

And one last Happy Birthday to my sweet Abbey K! Can't wait for year number two! :)

Thinking of all the soldiers and their families today as well.

Happy Birthday Douglas, Sarah, Brody,Hazel, Corbin, Abbey

Whew, apparently I thought all birthdays ended after my child's so there's a belated shout out. No real news except TEETHING. Ohmigod,it's like DS has turned into a toddler as soon as he turned one. I am attributing it to the fact that he has like 4 teeth coming in at the same TIME! Other than that we are cruising and climbing everywhere so I think walking will be in the next few weeks. Oh and like I predicted, he has become a horrible eater. We are now in day 5 of endless mac and cheese.

Thanks everyone. Seriously, when it rains, it pours around here. Sarah has been running a fever since last night, it spiked to 103 degrees this morning, so she is home too. Teething related? Seems a bit high to be from teething, but she has been chewing on her hands like crazy. Poor thing is pretty miserable. And my poor DH had to stay home from work and care for both his girls, because my strength isn't back and I'm still in some discomfort, so we didn't want to chance me taking care of her alone today. Plus, DH has really become Sarah's number one person after the past few days. Her world was pretty much turned around when I was in the hospital, with my father and stepmother, plus neighbors all pitching in to care for her. She is turning to daddy much more than mommy right now, which honestly is a little weird for me, but I hope once things get back to normal around here, she and I will get back to the way things used to be.

Alicia - Glad the party was a success and Abbey had a great time. Totally understand about being emotional. It was a very surreal day for me as well.

Father's Day - At this rate, I am going to have to come up with a pretty spectacular Father's Day gift for DH! I really am at a loss, but I want it to be something sentimental.

Happy Belated birthday Abbey!!

So, Nic and I started night weaning last night. I'm not real crazy about weaning right now, so we're taking it slow... (And, we'll hold out on the weaning til he's 2 if I get pregnant before he's weaned which I'm really hoping for!) I did just read about bee pollen. It's supposed to help ovulation (which I don't do on my own, no clue why... ) ...and its breastfeeding safe. (i've also read something about red clover, but bee pollen is supposed to be a real superfood ) ... Once my creatine taking husband is finished with his current batch, I'm getting him to switch to bee pollen! Nic did wonderfully! He went from 7 pm last night to 5:15 am this morning ... he sleeps in his hammock til first wakeup, then comes into bed with me (we have a cosleeper, but he can crawl from it to get to me) ... The few times he woke up, he settled right back to sleep when I popped the pacifier back in his mouth and cuddled him...

We have his 12 month visit on Thursday...I can't wait to see how much he weighs...I think he justs had a growth spurt because he's seriously looking much bigger to me...just in the last few days...

:)

Food This has become a real issue in our house. I think DS might be losing a little weight with his transfer to whole milk but we're not too concerned at this pt b/c it's normal. But he is starting to fight us on food so I am having to invent ways to sneak it in. Yesterday, I tried to see if he would eat any endamame and he flat refused. I then fed him plain yogurt with it and you could see him feel out the bean with his teeth and process that there was something else in the yogurt. While feeding the yogurt with beans, he would then pick up and eat the beans. Weird. I really don't want to battle at meal times so does anyone else have handy tips. Cheese is other trick we use.

Probably not the best long-term solution, but I find distraction helps at times when DS is being a PITA ;). I will put either this:
http://www.babyage.com/icons/localhost/products/medium/1571084.jpg
Or a musical one like it that MIL bought him, and it distracts him enough that I can shovel stuff in him.

Otherwise, could he be teething and it hurts too much to chew?? If so, try softer, mushier stuff via spoon and give him Tylenol/Hyland's/teething pain remedy before meals.

Dropping a bottle So I haven't pushed dropping bottles yet (Aiden still drinks a lot) and he love his water at meals in his sippy but he had decided to drop, all off bottles, his nightime one. The last 3 nights he has flat out refused and I have been able to get him to drink it while in his a crib (a habit I do not want to start). However, last night he wanted nothing do to with it and slept better then he has in weeks! What the heck!! Too funny. Not sure if it is his teeth or he just doesn't want it. Leave it do my kid to drop that one first :)

I can't believe it's June already...

Happy Birthday Rhiley, hub1176's DD!
Happy Birthday Peter, yooper's DS!

bottle dropping ally, I found that DD dropped her nighttime nursing before others too. I think it was b/c she had eaten dinner shortly before bed and just wasn't hungry. She eats around 5:30 or 6 and it takes at least 45 minutes to eat so when she goes to bed at 7:15 or 7:30 she really isn't hungry.

1-year ped questions in addition to some of your questions,
I asked how much whole milk she should be drinking vs water (if she were off BF)
I confirmed the tylenol/motrin dosing amout

psusna how cute w/ the new words!

foods I found DD doesn't like to be tricked by mixing stuff in. She is big into textures, if she doesn't like how it "feels" she spits it out. If she is picky that day I usually just let her eat what she wants (even if it's a pile of cheese or mac and cheese) and try not to fight w/ her. :)

cynder

Ally I posted in LJ but I think it is the best bottle to drop. We're debating whether to drop it but our ped didn't push it. She did push brushing his teeth after that bottle which we don't do. B/c his milk intake is around 10-16 oz per day we still offer the bottle but he refuses or drinks very little 50% of the time.

Kim Thanks for the idea. We do offer him various toys and sometimes Cheerios distract him from the other things that we put in his mouth. He was and still is a great self feeder so I think part of it is testing boundaries with us coupled with teething. A lot of the times he will flat refuse but once he gets a good taste or plays with it for awhile, he will eat it with gusto. I just don't want to get into the habit of offering cheese or pasta just to get him to eat but there are times when I just should force it.

My cousin would always feed her daughter at this age by distracting her with Teletubbies and now at 4 she's got terrible eating habits. I know that you have to pick your battles and toddlers can get real picky. DS is really starting to show his decision making in the things he chooses to eat these days. Like yesterday, he ate all his string beans where the last 2 weeks he flat refused. Stinker!

ETA - Alien Usually when we tried tricking him, he would ferret out the offending object and spit it out so it surprised me that he ate the endamame the other day. That's why I don't think teething is entirely to blame for his current food dislikes. I really think that he gets off on picking and choosing which is understandable. We also make a big cheer when he eats his veggies or drinks his milk. Actually we're doing alot of "congratulating his success" to combat some of the discipline issues right now. It's hit or miss.

Sleep Question- How do you get your child ready for bed? Before, we would get Abs to wind down by reading together and/or offering a bottle. However, she no longer wants to read with us (throws the book on the floor!) and refuses the bottle half the time. 90% of the time we end up with a screaming baby b/c she can't transition from playtime to sleepytime. Happy birthday Rhiley and Peter!

Alicia - Seriously, I was going to ask the same question! Our routine was always bath, pj's, book, bottle, bed. Now our ped. wants us brushing Sarah's teeth after the bottle (I was doing it before, just after her bath :o) and I feel like it throws our entire routine out of whack. When we try putting her right down after brushing her teeth, she screams bloody murder in her crib. And I hate to get into the routine of rocking her to sleep, a habit we have long kicked. But I feel like we need to rock her again after teeth brushing. No suggestions, just commiseration and also looking for advice.

tgr - So cute!

Ped. questions -Everyone listed the ones I asked. How much milk, how much Tylenol and off-limit foods were the big ones for me.

Looks like Sarah's MMR reaction is finally over, although even last night her fever was back up to 102 degrees. As for me, I'm feeling better, although I had a reaction to the medicine they put me on and broke out in itchy hives all over my body! DH and I are wondering when we are going to get a break . I am just feeling very stressed over everything that has happened in the last two months.

Nurse, change diaper and into PJs, brush teeth, read book and rock. He goes down fully awake and cries bloody murder for all of about 30 seconds..... Then talks a little, and then is OUT.

DH is getting her and then taking her to the ped.'s office because the reaction should be over by now. A has been wacky with food lately-esp the throwing. I cannot get the kid to feed from a spoon from me or DH.

ahh, we have a lot of throwing these days and not just when she's finished. If she doesn't like it (like chicken or meat) she just tosses it on the floor. She also is not really into the being feed by a spoon so everything is self fed. I sometime can get a few bites of yogurt or applesauce in but that's about it. I think it's an independence thing...

speaking of meat I need some more protein/meat ideas. I've tried egg yolks, chicken (all kinds), ground beef, steak tips, meatballs, salmon and she really won't eat any of them. Egg yolks are fairly new so I have to keep trying. Any other ideas? She did eat a few bites of hotdog and McD hamburger but I don't really want to give those to her on a regular basis.

How about deli turkey - is that OK? I just worry about MSG and other "stuff" that might be in deli meats since I don't see the ingredient list.

tgr I couldn't see the video  will have to try later but I would imagine my DD would whip the bowl and spoon on the floor.

Sasha I hope you and DD feel better soon!

bedtime routine after dinner she plays a bit and then we do bath/pjs/brush teeth/sip of water and bed. She doesn't really sit still for the book so I just try to read during the day.

cynder
06-01-2006, 12:54 PM
We had a great sleep routine but the last 2 days he's been really wound up when we set him in the crib, so we're in the same boat. Usually he puts his head down as soon as we set him in there. He's transistioning naps, teething, seperation anxiety (actually I think he's realizes how much fun we are) and has a cold so I am chalking it up to that. I know that not everyone agrees with CIO so I am not sure what else to suggest.

Meats Our ped said that until molars come, meat is a hard sell. I am doing deli meats with melted cheese on tortillas and because the meat is thinner it's easier to chew. Not ideal though.

wendstress- We're in the same boat. DS has been refusing BF the past couple nights, but I think it's because it's been pretty hot and he's uncomfortable being so close to me. I constantly go back and forth on the weaning.

sleep- Our bedtime routine consists of storytime, bath (sometimes), nursing (or not- see above), tooth brushing, and then lying down on the couch until asleep. Then we transfer him into his crib for the rest of the night (hopefully). I know we're supposed to get him to fall asleep in his crib on his own, but I just can't listen to him cry for hours on end. DH has had some success during the day for naps, but not much. What stinks is that because the couch is in the living room, the one not lying down with DS has to either go to bed in the loft or leave the house. One positive note- DS is going to bed earlier, so that's something anyway.

Sasha: Oh goodness, I really hope your family can catch a break soon. What did the ped say?

Sleep: Bath, brush, lotion, pajamas, turn on lullabies and airplane night light, kiss, lay down. Some nights he's asleep before his head hits the mattress, some nights he lays and talks to his puppy for a while. Speaking of puppy -- anyone else have a DC attached to a buddy like a lovie or stuffed animal?

Meat: How about ground turkey or beans as a protein source? Also, DS loves pork -- tenderloin, bbq, etc. As far as deli turkey, I *think* I remember reading that fresh sliced meats are better than the prepackaged meats in terms of MSG, etc. I've done deli sliced ham with moderate success and I've also done hotdogs (quarted slices or smaller) but while he loved them, I felt guilty giving them to him

allray: DS has constant prickly heat/heat rash in the summer. I try to keep his shirt off when inside as much as possible to let him air out and I also use cornstarch or a light dusting of powder.

Meat: Sasha's fish stick suggestion is a great one. Ian's makes yummy fish stisks as well. I need to look for the Mrs. Pauls ones...

Cynder: Isn't it wild when they say a word?! It catches you off guard and you immediately want them to do it again. It's so strange. I guess my non-stop dialogue of what things are, what we are doing, etc. is finally paying off. I may regret it in another month or so :)

Happy Birthday Grace, September2002's DD!

meat/protein thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to get some black beans. What other canned beans are good? Fish sticks - I've tried the Ian's ones and she really won't eat them. They seem a bit chewy when I prepare them (in toaster oven). I'll maybe try the Mrs Pauls ones.

Oh and last night she ate some meatballs my mom made but they were very soft, when I heated them in the sauce they broke up and it was more like meat sauce. She ate quite a bit. I definitely think she doesn't like the harder texture of other meats...

Happy B-day Grace!

I just had to cancel Abbey's WBV b/c I have the *%&-ing rotovirus AGAIN! WTH is going on here? I had it about 2 months ago, Scott and Abbey have had it (Abbey's had it twice and had to go to the hospital once). Then my dad came for Abbey's b-day and got it, and he infected Scott's cousin, her boyfriend and Scott's aunt. I came down with it last night, but it is worse than last time. Let me just say, the vomit-fest I had last night has reaffirmed my decision to wait another few years to TTC. I can't believe I used to feel this way every day for 4 months!

Sasha- I really hope you guys can catch a break soon. You deserve some good, hospital free years!

Breakfast Whole wheat waffles, toast, fruits in a mesh feeder, banana bread, bran muffins, cheerios, pancakes. I tend to stick with these types of finger foods while I get his daycare bag ready and he can feed himself. Mostl we do waffles and yogurt.

Alicia - Oh I am so sorry roto has invaded your house again. I hope it passes quickly, feel better.

Carissa - Try yogurt (we use YoBaby, a bit pricey but convenient for daycare for us). I also give Sarah blueberry waffles, mini-bagels & cream cheese, toast with all-fruit spread or fruit. Maybe cottage cheese (Sarah hates it but maybe Grace will like it). I hope your m/s passes quickly.

New milestone! -When the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" comes on, Sarah puts her hands on her head! It is so cute. She is also saying "yeah baby" all the time, we call her little Austin Powers, LOL.

So DH took Sarah to the doctor yesterday and there was absolutely nothing wrong with her. They thought this last fever was either one last one from the MMR reaction or just from teething. She is refusing to eat a lot, and is chewing on her hands, so I'm leaning towards teething. Thanks for letting me vent about all this cr@p, it has just been a very frustrating week.

jrdhbunny~Thanks!

Sleep~Bottle, story, change into jammies, laydown, start mobile (yes we still use it), kiss, and turn off the light.

Meat~We give her the Stage 3 dinners and an occasional piece of shredded meat off our plates.

Lovie~She has a turtle that she sleeps with. She can go without it just fine, but she does better with it.

Ally~I strip DD down to a diaper to help her cool off and keep her clothes from rubbing.

Alicia~Ugh!!! I'm so sorry you are sick again. :(

Carissa~Lately I've been feeding DD the Gerber Little Flakes cereal. She loves it and since it's a cold cereal, you just have to pour a little milk over the top.

Sasha~LOL at baby Austin!!

Well, I got some shopping done for her first birthday. Today I was able to pick up the swimming pool (Sand N Sun Animal Park Playground), serving platters, napkins, cups, her card (which she picked out :p), and a birthday present (yeah, I gave in. :o) - potty trining panties & a book!

Sleep~Bath (every other night), jammies, bottle/rock, bed. She gets too wound up if I try to read or anything, she does better with it quiet. She goes to bed around 7 or 7:30.

Meat~We give her the Stage 3 dinners and an occasional piece of shredded meat off our plates.

Lovie~She had a pink minkee little blanket that she slept with but I left it at my house and now we're at my mom's and she doesn't have it. Pretty much the only thing she has to have is a paci.

Ally~Aidan hasn't really dealt with heat rash before. Sorry your little one is dealing with it. Poor baby.

Alicia~Ugh!!! That sucks so much for you. When I had it I felt like someone had beaten my upper body with a tire iron. We're also holding off on kids for a while. We thought we were gonna try again at the beginning of next year but now we've decided to wait till we're out of debt (all but student loans).

Carissa~Cheerios, applesauce or frozen waffle that's been lightly toasted and cooled.

Sasha~"Yeah, Baby!" That is soooo cute! Aidan's big into pointing right now. :)

Yes!!! I am feeling much better today, but my muscles are so sore! Now I understand why Abbey was so lethargic, even after she seemed to be better.

Carissa- So sorry you are having bad m/s with this one. I hope it passes soon. Hats off to you for watching Grace while feeling so ill. I did it for one day yesterday and wanted to cry. :o One other thing I do for breakfast (besides those ideas listed above) is to share a bowl of Cheerios with her. She loves to eat them with milk like mommy does. :)

Since today was one of the first nice days we've had since we moved to my mom's, we enjoyed the pool. She woke up from her morning nap, I changed her into her swim diaper and bathing suit (on sale at www.childrensplace.com)
http://www.childrensplace.com/www/b/TCP/images/styles/469701_m.jpg
Then she had lunch and we loaded up the wagon and went down. I doused her with sunscreen and we swam and played for about an hour. She played in her floatie that I used as a kickboard while I swam 5 laps and then we got rid of the floatie and she played and splashed and jumped off the edge to me. We got out from time to time to have some juice and check the phone to see if Daddy called and to reapply sunscreen. She met another baby and loved on her for a while. Sounds like they'll be out there from time to time so maybe Aidan found a pool playmate. We came back home, took a shower and now she's supposed to be napping but she's fussing. Might need to go stick the paci pack in.

Happy Summer, everyone!!

Happy Birthday Landon!!

DS and I spent part of the day at the outlet mall. It was our first, longer outing with the new Mac Techno stroller and we both LOVE it. It drives and rides like a dream. Yesterday, DS spent the afternoon with the ILs so I could houseclean his room, our bathroom and mow the lawn (DH is continuing his never ending weeks in Ohio working...only 2 more weeks to go!). He played with their dog, flirted with the neighbor girl and helped to unload the dishwasher :)

No new words lately, but at least his night time coughing seems to have subsided (knock on wood).

Have a great week everyone!!

Happy Birthday Thomas, and Landon!

Breakfast foods - waffles or pancakes, Gerber's "Little Flakes" w/ whole milk, yogurt.

Words - lots! Newest are "all done" which sounds like "ah da". He repeated "tree" for me on Friday, but isn't repeating it now. The funniest is he is immitating the dog panting! :D It's hot, so the dog is panting, but now I don't always know which one is making the sound! He says NaNa a lot, but I can't figure out what he is referring to.

Swimming lessons - DH is taking James to swimming lessons starting June 12th. I'll be travelling and have to miss the first one :(

Haircut - gave him his first one today. Sort of sad, but he looks better. He had a mullet going...

Cruising, climbing, and pulling-up - All the time, although still a little tentative. At this rate, he's going to walk before he crawls!

Couple questions....

1. What do you do with DC when you shower?
-Been doing toys on the floor, but lately he keeps rolling over to the toilet and that sort of freaks me out (yes, he's still rolling).

2. How is DC doing when you bring him to church with you?
-our Church doesn't have a nursery....I was exhasted by the homily just from holding a wiggling baby....who wants nothing to do with his father when I'm around! He talks non-stop, flirts with anyone that will make eye contact, and wants to MOVE!

On the way out of Church today, one of the ushers paid us the best compliment! He said, "Your baby has the most awesome eyes I've ever seen. I watched him just take in everthing during Mass."

1. I shower at night. If I shower when Aidan is awake, she goes in with me. When I'm getting ready in the morning she either stays in the family room with the door closed with her toys so she can't get into anything (it's really well baby proofed in there) or I put her in the bathroom with me with toys to play with.

2. I usually hold her until she gets squirmy, then I hand her off to family (if I'm there with family) or I take her to the back where I can walk her around and still hear everything.

I usually give her morning bottle right before I get in the shower (keeps her occupied for a good 10-15 minutes) or put her in the tub with me.

2. If we don't go/stay in the nursery, I'm usually holding her hands walking her up and down the hallway in the back of the sanctuary.

Happy Birthday Landon!

-Been doing toys on the floor, but lately he keeps rolling over to the toilet and that sort of freaks me out (yes, he's still rolling).

She used to go in the Jumperoo when I showered, but she reached the height limit, so it was time to pack that away and come up with a new plan. Lately, I've been really lucky that DH's schedule has allowed him to be around in the mornings, but on mornings he is not there, she plays on the floor with toys.

Question for moms of walking babies - How many shoes does your DC have? I don't mean Robeez-type shoes, but real walking shoes. The shoe-aholic in me wants Sarah to have a couple pairs ;), but that doesn't seem too smart since they only last such a short time and Stride Rites are ridiculously overpriced. Oh, and please tell me I am not the only one who has a major battle when putting real shoes on!

Tgray - Sarah has the same swimsuit, but the clasp just broke. It was my favorite one and when I went to Children's Place yesterday, they didn't have it in her size. But as an FYI to all, their swimsuits are on sale right now, I just picked up a new one for her for $8.00

Bah! We had a hit and miss weekend. Something is up and it could be teeth but I am not sure. He was cranky for most of yesterday, threw up on me after semi gagging on pancake (we were at a lovely outdoor place having a grand time when, bleccch!), and woke up almost every hr last night to complain. He's not tugging on his ears but are there any other signs for ear infections. He has no fever but his eating has been really off. Arg I wish he had more words to express him self.

QOTD
1. I try and shower before he wakes otherwise we let him play in the bathroom while we get ready. It's family naked time and I think we are at point of putting a stop to it now that he's older. He esp loves to pull him self up and bang on the shower door so I'm looking forward to reclaiming my shower back. Other times we have a big basket of toys in our room and he plays while we get ready.

2. No cry room so we take a bunch of books to distract or walk him outside.

Shoes: 2 – Stride Rite tennis shoes and sandals. I’m not willing to buy tons of shoes right now if he’s just going to outgrow them quickly. He wears the tennis shoes daily, but has figured out how Velcro works :)

Kim: I don't think I've ever seen a child have that much fun with the cake!!

I just now noticed this new thread! Sheesh where have I been!

Meats
We do burgers on the grill quite often and I'll cut some up for Jack. Another good source of protein that I've found Jack loves is hummus! I spread some on a honey wheat english muffin and he just can't get enough of it.

Birthday
His 1st birthday party went very well! He loved all his gifts .. he did NOT like the cake. Seriously. I tried to give him cake again this weekend when we had family over for his Gramps birthday and again, did not like it. He actually made a gagging nose then proceeded to spit out the cake and wipe off his tongue!!! Whose kid is this!? Guess I should count my blessings that he loves green beans and hates cake rather then the other way around, right?

Shoes
He has 3 pairs of Shoo Shoos (like Robeez) and that is it. He's walking all over the place now. He can't stand to be held anymore - just wants to walk. Still does so on his toes most of the time. Too cute. Looks like I might have to get some more pairs of shoes soon!

Shoes question
Are the robeez type shoes still fine? Or should I be getting him some hard soled Stride Rite shoes now that he's walking so much?

psusna
06-05-2006, 08:08 AM
Sasha: Yes, Stride Rite. Both the tennis shoes and sandals are from the Baby Stages/Stage 3 line. I think the sandal name is Baby Aidan. I remember there being WAY more girl choices for sandals than boys :)

I honestly try to keep him out of shoes as much as I can. He wears the tennies at school when they go outside and the sandals when he "dresses up" and we go out somewhere where he doesn't do much walking. He is never in shoes around the house, but when he needs them I want him to have good support and protection.

Now that I think of it – a Stride Rite gift card would be a great bday gift for a little tyke! Need to make a mental note…

allyray: forgot to comment on the haircut picture -- you did a great job!!

Meats ~ Nic LOVES avacado hummus (1 can chickpeas, 1-2 avacados - depending on how many i have on the counter that need to be eaten, 1 clove garlic, tiny pinch salt, quick squeeze of lemon) ... it does turn color a bit in the fridge but i scrape the top off and we eat the rest...it only really lasts a day or two in this house anyway... ) We eat it like crazy... (me on tortilla chips, nic on crackers or veggies)

Shower - On occasion, I'll put Nic in the bathtub (high sided tub - like a sepearte jacuzzi tub only no jets) with toys while I shower, but he's only happy there for like 5 minutes, so only when I'm desperate. I used to shower when he napped, but now I shower before dh leaves for work most mornings...

Car question ~ Is anyone else's dc not happy in the car still? We turned Nic's carseat around last weekend and he's STILL a pita in the car. I thought he'd outgrow it... DH is doubting whether its a developmental thing or if its Nic being a manipulator (I still sit in the back with him more often than not, cause I just can't take the screaming). When he's with just me in the car, he's sometimes really goood, sometimes a mess. However, usually when he's terrible, I can stick a hand back there and touch him and he'll quiet down. I haven't decided if he just needs to be touched to feel secure, or if he's playing the lets see if we can make mommy jump game...how do you tell???

:)

happy1: Asher's still not happy in the car if it's a longer trip than 10 minutes. Luckily, we only use our car a couple of times a month, but since we use it to leave NYC, the trips are almost always a couple of hours. We try to time car trips to Asher's naps, or he'll just scream.

Are the robeez type shoes still fine?

Yep b/c it simulates the feeling of having no shoes which is really good at this age. They need to figure how out the foot works. But obviously there are times (outdoors, public areas) that for safety and sanitary issues that you would want good shoes for your child. I am not sure about support but Target makes what looks like Stride Ride ripoffs in their shoe section. I ordered some online and then realized that they were hiding in the shoe section that were really good for DS but he's not walking yet/

Car I am sure you have tried this but giving toys and books to distract. Books are used big time in our car and we do sing along songs to calm him down on long trips.

Happy Birthday, Landon!

Tgray~Sounds like a fun afternoon at the pool!

psusna~Glad his cough is getting better.

Shoes~Most days it's not a battle of putting on the shoes, but rather keeping them on!! DD has now figured out how to both velcro and untie her shoes, even when we double-knot them!

Ally~Love Aiden's new 'do!

Cynder~We have "family naked time" too. Makes getting ready so much easier when we can tag team DD.

QOTD - Family Naked Time~Those of you that do this, when do you plan on stopping? DH has been worried about how long he should let DD see him w/o clothes on.

Kim~Cute video!

KGif~What an adorable pic!

DD just totally asked permission to do something! Nevermind it was something she's not supposed to do! She pointed to the fax machine, pointed to herself, and said "yes?". Normally she goes right for the buttons and cries when I pull her away and tell her "no".

Car~DD has just recently started whining while in the car! Last night she whined for 15 minutes straight while we came home from church. Ugh!

Not much going on here. Last night I finally got a rolling pin! That's right we've been married 4 years, and I've never had one. I just don't bake. :o Anyway, so now I can actually start on the cake topper/decoration today amidst all the usual cleaning.
