Abbey said "baby" and "Ah-bee" on the way to jogging this morning! :) I think that "Abbey" may have been a fluke, but she said baby twice (once while pointing to a baby in her picture book). I'm so proud, although I'm sure she won't repeat it for daddy for at least a month. ;)

Happy belated b-day Landon!

Getting ready- Thankfully, Abs still goes into the doorway jumper and loves it. I can get a good 45 minutes in. :)

Church- Thankfully, our new church has a great nursery. We used to just sit in the back and take turns walking out with her b/c she has no patience for church whatsoever (kind of like me as a kid! :)).

tgray- I am so jealous that Aidan will stay at the pool that long. Abbey gets bored and cranky after about 20 minutes.

Cynder- Our ped says that a major symptom of ear infection is when they scream when they're laying down. I've noticed this with Abbey as well. Hope Sam feels better soon!

Ally- ! What a cute picture!

Kim- Thomas looks like he had a great time with his cake. Too cute.

KGif- Adorable picture!

She probably would've stayed longer if I'd let her...I was afraid of her getting a sunburn. We just need to work on not taking Mommy's sunglasses off! ;) This kid is a serious water baby...she loves splashing and kicking and playing. :)

psusna - Thanks for the info on the sandals. I don't put Sarah's shoes on (other than Robeez-ones) unless we are going to be outside or somewhere she will want to walk. But she is going to be moving up to the toddler room at daycare in a week or so and they require hard-soled shoes. But at home she is either barefoot or Robeez.

Kgif - How cute is that picture! Ditto to what Cynder about shoes. If he is going to be walking outside or somewhere public, you probably want to put real shoes on.

Ally - He looks so adorable!

Just read over the past 25 pages I was behind on. I wanted to say I'm SO sorry for the BS you are dealing with at your pedi's office. I can't tell you how mad that made me when I read your post ... I can't even begin to imagine how angry you must be. SO not right.

I finally uploaded the pics from Abbey's b-day and first haircut. Look how long her hair was!

And lastly...the cake. I didn't post pictures of her actually demolishing the cake b/c she was topless-- and you never know what kind of perverts are lurking-- but I think you get the idea. ;)

All of the pictures and movies are wonderful! Looks like everyone had great times at their parties!

A friend and I took James to the beach for the first time yesterday. He loved the sand:

but was very frightened of the water (this was taken just after he scrambled into my arms).

I love all the birthday pictures! Here are some of mine.

The cake I made. Excuse the ice crystals. We had no room left in the fridge, so I had it in the freezer before the party. The kid is OBSESSED with balloons. :)

The Party: Was a success! Landon had a great time, got lots of fun stuff, LOVED his cake and was up almost two hours past his normal bed time last night. Hello, sugar!;) I was waay more emotional the day before his b-day then the actual day of. Probably just so busy yesterday, I guess. I can't believe the big day has come and gone, and now we're onto year 2. How can that be? My tiny little man, I brought home from the hospital a year ago tomorrow, is now a walking, talking, little ball of personality!!! I never could have imagined the love I'd have for another person, it's almost overwhelming at times. It's been an awesome first year and I can't wait to see what year two has in store for us.:)

Of course, we had the big questions of "When's #2 coming?" about a million times yesterday!!! Hello, can I at least get rested up from the party???:p

some pics.

WOW! Those are some amazing birthday parties -- great job everyone.

jrdhbunny: that second picture melts my heart...

That PBK chair sure is popular -- we have it in denim :)

So DS had to take a nap on the mat at daycare today for the first time. I'm glad that I didn't know it was coming or I would have stressed us both out. The little turked laid down and slept for 2:45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's never slept that long in that room!!!!!!!!! Whew -- I hope this wasn't a fluke. I also can't believe he's big enough to nap on a mat. Holy moley.

goodness, I'm like 4-5 pages behind.

my attempt at shout outs:

allyray cute haircut

kimthebride Great video, man that boy loves cake!

all the babies celebrating their birthdays the parties all look wonderful, nice job ladies! Everyone's b'day outfits look terrific too.

jrdhbunny cute beach pic! Did your DS try to eat the sand at all? We are going to the beach next month for vacation and I'm worried DD will be eating the sand.

hair I also wish DD would grow some more hair. It's getting fuller but I still can't use hair bows/barrettes.

pulling up/cruising well today it "clicked" w. DD and she is pulling up on everything and doing a pretty good job of cruising. She was in her room and I went to wash my hands across the hall and I found her trying to scale her bookcase. She was holding the middle shelf and had her feet on the bottom shelf! Great!

I hope I didn't leave anyone out.

QOTD
Showering I shower when DD takes her AM nap, or at night after she goes to bed, depending if I need to go anywhere that day. I think I can also use the pack n play to contain her. She will sit in there for quite a while and entertain herself. The only problem is that it is downstairs and the shower is upstairs and it seems like a pain to move it around.

speaking of shoes does anyone's DC try to eat their shoes? DD still has been putting her stride rites/robeez in her mouth when in the stroller etc. She isn't walking yet (and I just have her wear them when we go out to the store etc.). And although they aren't terribly dirty from walking it kind of freaks me out since they are going to get dirty eventually. i guess I shouldn't worry too much but it just seems icky. Not to mention the looks I get from other shoppers when she has her shoe in her mouth. One cashier said as I was trying to pay, "oh honey don't put your dirty shoes in your mouth". How do you respond to that?

psusna
06-05-2006, 07:53 PM
We have a shoe eater/licker here! He mainly sticks the toe part in his mouth. My response: "No. Dirty. We don't eat our shoes -- we wear them on our feet." He typically stops, but if he doesn't I take it from him and he cries :) I'm a bad mom.

I've got another shoe eater here. He actually has a basket of shoes/hats in his room that I let him play with...and umm, eat. He seriously has a shoe fetish...any shoes in the house (mine, dh's...his) are all fair game. It's great fun when we go to grandmas house where there are shoes all over. I don't worry about him eating his shoes - the boy can't walk - how dirty can they get (although, not a great precedent to set, I know) ... but I do try to keep all the OTHER shoes out of his mouth... ugh!

:)

Shoes: Are you kidding? We were at Kim's party for Thomas, and she had this great baby play area set up with kids' music, an exersaucer, a push walker, and all kinds of toys. What did Asher go for? DH found him happily chewing on a shoe that someone had kicked off.

Disney: We are at the point where DS eats what we eat, but since DH has been traveling so much here is the list of dinner items we have been cycling through -- quesadilla, mac n cheese w/peas, black beans & rice, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, chicken and rice, Boca patties, meatloaf, cheese ravioli w/sauce, grilled ham and cheese, eggs (or breakfast for dinner when you toss in a piece of toast w/all fruit), sweet potato "fries", all sorts of veggies and fruits.

I would love to hear other ideas as well -- we need to branch out and get creative!

shoe eater I'm "glad" she isn't the only one! Yes, adult shoes must be in the closet and if you are sitting w/ her somewhere she goes for the shoes.

dinner I still make DD a separate meal b/c she eats before we do. I always serve some sort of veggie (carrots, peas, squash, green beans - I keep a stash in the freezer). I rotate between mac and cheese, tofu, meatballs and pasta, fish sticks, quesadilla etc. I throw in cheese if she won't eat something. I also give her our leftover chicken etc but often she won't eat it. I need to try rice and beans for her. I'm trying to get her to eat eggs so that might become a staple if she would just eat it.

ETA: psusna what brand of chicken nuggets do you like?

What great birthday pictures, everyone! We seriously have the cutest babies around :D.

Alicia - I was holding Sarah when we saw Abbey's picture and she said "baby" as soon as she saw it. She knows Abbey is her twin ;). BTW, feel free to ship some of Abbey's hair this way as we are in desperate need of some more hair on Sarah's head!

psusna - I am so glad to hear your DS slept so well on the mat because it gives me some hope! Sarah is starting her transition to the toddler room at daycare and I am so nervous about that. I do not expect her to sleep on it! Actually the biggest problem I am finding during this transition is the new sleep schedule. She is falling asleep in her highchair by lunch time since there is no AM nap, but then only napping for 1/2 hour all day. Did your daycare have a nap transition from one to two naps, and if so, how did it work for your DS?

Shoes - Oddly, she won't put her Stride Rites in her mouth but any other shoes are fair game. Especially her Robeez, she loves to play with them and try to eat them.

Dinner - I am also in need of some more meal ideas too! Especially things I can pack for daycare for lunch. Our current rotation includes pasta with a little melted "pretend" butter and parm. cheese, raviolis, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, Perdue baked chicken breasts, meat sticks, mac & cheese, melted turkey and cheese sandwiches, quesadillas (although she can pick out the veggies ), and once in awhile, some ground meat pieces (like meatballs). Veggies include peas & carrots, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and those wonderful brocoli and spinach bites. I know I need to start cooking things like meatloaf and such on a Sunday to use for the rest of the week, but I just like to spend my Sundays doing better things than cooking!

Shoe eating
Ummm yes. Shoes and everything else he can get his hands on. Everything goes in his mouth!

Question about Dr's visits
At every well baby visit do you all have to fill out a worksheet circling "yes" or "no" indicating what skills your baby currently has? Such as "Can pick up something the size of a rasin between his thumb and pointer finger" (circle yes or no). "Can say 1 word in addition to Mama or Dada not including the name of the family pet" (circle yes or no). Then you stop when you get to 3 no's?? Just wondering if it was a US thing or just a Virginia thing or possibly a my doctor thing.
Also anyone know the name of it? I know my doc told me at some point. I also know there was the name of a state in the name (not Virginia) and it's killing me trying to remember :)

shoes Aiden not only loves shoes but feet as well :)

Dinner He usually eats what we eat unless we are eating something odd. He gets a TON of fruits and veggies during the day, so with us he usually gets some type of meat and a starch or cheese.

Such cute babies!!! I can't believe they are getting so big! I'm in denial. ;)

Shoes- Oh yeah. When Abbey was in daycare, we had to kick off our shoes before entering the infant room. All of the babies ignored the toys and went straight for the shoes. :p

Dinner- Abbey usually eats before we do, so she'll have mac and cheese, quesadilla (not too fond of that), ground beef, ground turkey, turkey deli meat and cheese, or chicken. I always mix in a veggie, but that's a tougher sell. She eats the jarred kind just great, but she doesn't like fresh veggies! I try to mix them in with something and she picks them out once they're in her mouth and then smiles at me. Could she be smarter than I am???

Sasha- Too cute that Sarah recognizes her twin! I've been cracking up over "yeah baby." I told Scott about it and he is jealous. ;)

alienhost- We use Tyson chicken nuggets. DH had a friend that used to work for Tyson and he said that they are the best in terms of freshness, no added fats, etc. (I know you didn't ask me, but thought I'd chime in! :))

Dreshny~LOL!!

Dinner~We just feed her what we eat. Of course, sometimes, I just want to eat in piec, so I give her Puffs for dinner. :o So far, she has liked mac-n-cheese, hotdogs (Ggma gave them to her. I freaked over the choking hazzard.), shredded chicken, mexican rice, refried beans, orange chicken, egg rolls, eggs, egg drop soup, lemon chicken, pizza, and french fries. Yeah, some things are exactly healthy, but when we're out to eat, she won't eat the jarred stuff.

Dr's Visits~I've never had to fill out anything like what KGif mentioned, but the dr always verbally "quizzes" me on what DD can/cannot do.

Alicia~That's too funny about the shoes!

Okay, well the cake decorations were a no-go. :( I couldn't get the color right, and all my bow pieces were really flimsy. I think I am going to buy just a plain old pkg bow and use the icing for the ribbon that goes around the gift. I think if I brush on the color it will be bright enough!

Dinner Psychics! I was going to ask this. We do quesdillas, veggies in cheese, pastas, bread and hummus/jelly, mac and cheese. But he is starting to get pickier by the day. Meat is non existent unless I can sneak in some deli meat with cheese. DH is trying to make me more patient that he's going through a phase and that all gets get picky so I'm trying to go with the flow. Oh and I found Veggie Booty this weekend which was a huge hit. Much better than the gerber puffs b/c less additives.

Question about Dr's visits We don't have anything like that though the ped informally asks these questions during the visit. She stresses that there is a wide range for these things but likes to ask so she can gage how he is progressing. They do give a pamphlet at the end of the visit that talks about Feeding, Development, and now that he is older Discipline. Just tips and things to remember and dosing measurements.

thanks for the info! Going to the store today to get nuggets. Can't believe I haven't tried them for her yet.

More meal suggestions I did try Chef Boyardee mini ravioli's w/ meat balls for her. Not the most nutritious but this girl really doesn't really like meat. She did eat a number of the raviolis and meatballs(I cut them in quarters, no so mini by my standards)

Dr visit - KGif that's interesting, we were not asked to fill that out. We are also "quizzed" on what she is/isn't doing and the ped makes notes. I always try to sneak a look at the chart! :D Like when the DR wrote that Elaine from Seinfeld was difficult...:D

I'm so far behind!! The school quarter is coming to an end and I've been studying my rear end off for the upcoming final exams.

Dinner - She usually eats what we eat, but sometimes I really feel like I'm not offering enough variety. I offered Feta Turkey Burgers (tastes like gyros!!) last night and she happily gobbled up a whole patty!!!

Shoes - We're also obsessed with shoes here. Any shoes. Hers, mine, DHs. Grosses me out that she sucks on them as soon as I turn my back - YUCK!

Dr Visits - I don't have to fill anything out, but the Dr goes through a list of similar things with me in person.

Avery took her first steps last week! So exciting!! She's not really walking yet, but she sure is working on it. I just ordered a pair of preschoolians for her. These still have a flexible sole, but offer more protection from the elements than the Robeez (which we'll continue to wear too):

Can you share where you got them (preschoolian's website?) and if there are any deals out there?I ordered them from preschoolians.com - they offer a discount if you sign-up for it on the home page (and they apparently will send additional discount offers every 4 months or so). They are pricey, but I knew I had to have those shoes for her the second I saw them. This is one of the really nice things about having a slower growing kiddo. KGif ~ Sounds like the Denver developmental screening test. I used it in peds, though I always asked the questions myself instead of having the parent fill it out. There are several others beside the Denver, but it is one of the originals. There is such a wide range for normal at this age; I remember the parents always thought I was an idiot if I asked about a milestone their kid had suppased awhile ago and looked defensive if the baby hadn't quite mastered something. You could never win ;)

Goodness! I haven't been around in a few days and am already about 5 pages behind. Sooo...not too many shout outs since I am short on time and wanted to update you all on a few things.

One Year Appointment
24lbs (65%)
31" long (80ish%)
46cm head (50%)

What we discussed:
Milk: Since he got the MMR vaccine today, we need to not give cow's milk for at least 6 weeks. Apparently cow's milk and the MMR don't mix well, so some kids have reactions. This is why some Peds are now recommending holding out on cow's milk until 15 months. My Ped said to wait at least 6 weeks from today before starting, but he does want me to start at 15 months.
As of right now, no more than 16oz of formula a day.
Stop using bottles at any time now.
No falling asleep with a bottle: always brush teeth before bed.

Tylenol & Motrin Dosages: Tylenol is 2 droppers every 4 hours (160mg), Motrin is 100mg every 6 hours or if that's not enough then no more than 150mg every 6 hours.

Food restrictions: No dark fish due to Mercury risk (tuna, makerel, etc). No peanut butter. No "choking hazard" foods (grapes, etc). Ok to eat whole eggs now.

Thomas' Celebrations
His bday party went so well, I had fun, Thomas seemed to love it and was showered with so many great books and gifts. Everyone was in good spirits - I am so happy with the end result! Then on Sunday he had his Baptism....at naptime! But he was soooo good. Here are a few pics from his party, his car, and the baptism. :)

Shoes
MIL & I went to Stride Rite yesterday for his 1st pair of "walking" shoes. Technically they are cruising shoes (sandals) since he's not walking yet, but it was her bday gift so we made a big deal out of it. The lady there said he should be barefoot all the time except when outdoors - that's when he needs to wear his shoes or else he'll "walk like Frankenstein".

Skills Questionnaire
While I undress DS to get weighed, the nurse asks developmental questions to get a feel of how he is progressing. Then they give me a sheet on the typical things a (insert-age-here) should be able to do, along with a disclaimer that all kids develop differently.

Dinner
Well, tonight I made him some Barilla 3-cheese mini ravioli in Tomato basil sauce, diced carrot with peas from Cascadian Farms (frozen), cheddar string cheese, diced watermelon and I shred some fresh pear. I try to hit all the food groups at each meal.

dreshny
Asher wasn't the only one eating Jane's shoes. Thomas had a taste too. Ew!

Carissa~That's okay. I intentionally tried things out early since I had never done anything this detailed before. That way I'd have time to order a Wal-Mart cake if it turned out a complete disaster! :p

Shoes~DD doesn't wear shoes or socks at home, and the only reason she wears them out in public is because MIL wouldn't shut up about her being barefoot and bought her 3-4 pairs! DH finally said to just put them on her when we leave the house.

Kim~Thomas is so adorable! Very cute pictures! Our neighbors have a similar car for their granddaughter, and DD loves it!

New words~"Cat" and "pants".

Not much going on here. DH is at a meeting, so I'm hanging out at home. When he gets home, I've got to run in to work to do some last minute prep for tomorrow's activities.

Miss a day miss a lot around here! Let me see if I can get caught up...

Alien: We've been using Ian's but DS has turned against them so I'm shopping for a new brand this weekend. I'll let you know what I come up with...

Sasha: I was so sure he wouldn't nap on that mat -- he did awesome! He was on the mat again today and slept 2:30. She said he just lays down next to his buddy Mason, they chat as they fall asleep and that's that. DS was and still does sometimes fall asleep in his highchair and that's my one gripe about daycare. They did transition him and it took 2 weeks. They just gradually kep him active and awake longer. Once they got him to nap at the same time as the others, they would still allow him an afternoon cat nap for the next two weeks until he got settled on the schedule. Now I let them know if he has slept very poorly (like is up all night coughing, etc.) or just had Motrin, etc. and they'll let him nap in the morning if he needs it. I think a little bit of peer pressure has to do with both the mat success and the transition to one nap. I know that Sarah will totally surprise you and do awesome :)

Dr questions: Our experience is just like Kim described.

Kim: Super cute pictures! I'm so happy that everything went well and your baptism experience was better than ours when it fell at nap time  Did you get the baptism candle mystery solved?

Dinners: Ok, here's what he had the past two nights. I also try to hit all food groups, even if he only takes a bite or two.

Monday--black beans and rice, green beans, pineapple
Tuesday--beef stew, motts no sugar strawberry applesauce

I try to scour the food thread in the 18mo thread for ideas too.

Cynder: VEGGIE BOOTY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the dark side :) That stuff is gold around here. Pirate Booty is nice as well. Wait, that sounds wrong...

Diedra: Love the shoes!

Yay for all of the chatty babies around here! No new words here in a few days, but he is napping a lot and sleeping a lot. Maybe we are at a developmental spurt?? I remember him being like this right before reaching certain milestones (crawling, etc.).

I ordered them from preschoolians.com - they offer a discount if you sign-up for it on the home page (and they apparently will send additional discount offers every 4 months or so). They are pricey, but I knew I had to have those shoes for her the second I saw them. This is one of the really nice things about having a slower growing kiddo. She wears everything longer, so I don't feel guilty about some of the more expensive items in her wardrobe :D!

thanks, yeah DD is the same, she just outgrew her 0-6 mo Robeez...

kimthebride adorable pics!

great, in Boston there have been several cases of the measles and DD hasn't had her MMR (scheduled for 15 mo). Trying to research but does anyone know if an immune person can spread it? i.e. DH is immune but if he were exposed can he pass it to DD or do you only pass it if you have it? I need to call the ped this week.

Kim: Those are the cutest pics...Thomas is adorable!

Food: Aidan still eats a lot of jarred food. I'm staying with my mom and stepdad and when she's not home (she travels a lot) we don't really cook. Laziness mostly. Now that I think of it, she gets all her food groups throughout the day...except meat...I need to get that one into her diet better.

Average Day
Breakfast: Applesauce and Cheerios
Lunch: Veggie and Goldfish, 1/2 cranberry juice/half water
Snack: Goldfish, 1/2 cranberry juice/half water
Dinner: Veggie and Goldfish

She also takes 3 bottles of 8 oz each before naptime and bedtime, sometimes she gets Next Step formula (for a warm bottle) or whole milk (for a cold bottle).

Teeth: We're finally cutting our 3rd tooth! :D She's had her hands in her mouth a lot for the past few days so I stuck my finger in there and felt an edge today. :D It's her top left incisor.

Shoes: Aidan has a pair of the Stride Rite sandals that they sell at Target, a pair of pink sandals from Children's Place, a pair of pink and brown Robeez-like shoes from www.cutebabyshoes.com, and a pair of white Keds like tennies from Baby Gap. She's got very small and very wide and very pudgy feet so finding shoes is very hard and putting them on is even harder. We've just started outgrowing her size 2s if you can believe it. I need to buy some size 3s but I'm hesitant because I have no idea when she'll start walking and if I should by hardsoled or softsoled shoes. She is barefooted when we're home and hasn't really worn her Target sandals in a while because they're starting to leave marks on her feet. Any thoughts or idea? What shoes should I be looking for? I just had to take a pair of Target tennis shoes to the resale shop because they were too narrow. Anyone know of a brand of shoes for wide baby feet?

Kim I'll let BTB be the medical expert and you know your ped best but I mentioned this to DH and he said that it was not entirely sound. Basically there were fears of MMR with egg allergies b/c it contains mintue traces of egg. But the chances of reaction are less than 3% with those with egg allergies. Those children that can tolerate egg fine can have MMR. Maybe the ped was concerned because egg and milk allergies sometimes go hand in hand but I thought Thomas was eating eggs by now. Delaying cow's milk because of this reasoning seems a little extreme to me but there is nothing wrong with keeping him on formula. Obviously Thomas is thriving so never mind me.

Veggie Booty I found it in Food Lion which surprise me because I call it Ghetto Lion but it's near our house. I would also be happy to send a bag to a WIer.

Alien I can ask DH (infectious expert) about it but my sonly knowledge of it is that there is a small chance you can get it even if you are vaccinated. So in theory even though your DH is vaccinated, he is not entirely immune and therefore could pass it on. Let me check and I can post or BTB can speak more knowledgeably. Sucks but MMR is only 95 % effective.

Sarah finally said "mama"! Not so sure if it was necessarily in context to me ;), but it is a start!

Kim -Thomas is such a cutie! Adorable pics.

psusna -Thanks for sharing. Apparently Sarah took her nap on the mat in the toddler room yesterday and she went down without a problem, however she only slept for 35 minutes (which sadly is her norm). So needless to say, she was fast asleep in her crib in the infant room when I picked her up yesterday! Ugh, this whole forced nap transition is annoying.

Cynder - I forgot you said your DH was an infectious disease specialist. I would like to PM you with a question I have for him regarding some antibiotics I'm taking due my hospitalization two weeks ago, if you don't mind.

So much to catch up on...

Measles ~ Hmmm... which one is measles? Is that like chicken pox - annoying while you have it, but basically mostly harmless? or is that one of the serious diseases? (not to belittle chicken pox... but you get the idea) ...

Dinner ~ I'm trying to feed Nic what we eat - which has changed how I cook for me and dh (for the healthier, so no complaints really) ... last night we had lettuce wrapped salmon (sounds complicated, but it was really easy - and it cooked the salmon perfectly!... just blanch lettuce leaves so they're soft and wrap around your salmon fillet - i cut them in half and stuffed them with a lil bit of butter, bread crumbs and herbs from the garden) ... along with quinoa and broccoli. We had blueberry muffins for dessert. Tonight I'm trying beef bourginon. Lunches are killer for me... Nic hasn't had bread yet (no yeast doughs yet, actually - although he has had whole wheat flour (muffins/cake/crust.) We usually finish with a mango, cause mama looks forward to her half.. .but the rest of lunch. I'm really bad with that. Breakfast is boring - oatmeal and blueberries. I really have to add some variety there... I'm gonna kill a quote here, but I read something that said that humans have tens of thousands (really large number) of possible foods, but that we only really eat about (less than 500, really small number) of them... it really made me stop and think... (esp when you think of how many different things you eat are actually wheat, rice, and corn).

Dr's visit ~ My dr asks those kinds of questions as she checks things off her list... doesn't have me fill out anything.

Forgot to post Nic's 1 year stats (we went late, since I completely forgot and blew off his first appt)
Weight: 21 lbs 13 oz
Height: 31 1/4 inches
Head Circumference: 18 1/8 inches

We now have 7 teeth. 3 came in all at once. I think we might finally be getting a break from all the teething... (knock on wood)

Nic has started to pull up on the couch and cruise... I got his first time ever on video (WOOHOO) ... its fun to watch. And, he's discovered that the stairs are a great toy. We have a gate at the top that just goes up/down so he can take all of the upstairs blocks (plastic bath toy blocks) and throw them down through the gate...its great fun... ahuh...

Ok..naptime over. ugh.

21 lbs, 11 oz 33%
30 inches 56% (yahoo! maybe he'll overcome his short genes.)
46 cm head 38%

Asher got 5 vaxes ( ), MMR, checken pox, Hep B, Hib, and pneunococcal conjugate. Dr. asked a series of questions, (is he cruising? does he climb stairs? does he bang things together? repeat sounds?) including how does baby respond to "no," which I thought was weird, since I'm in the "never really say no to an infant, just remove him from the situation" camp. He also said it was fine to start peanut butter, whole eggs, shellfish, etc. He didn't mention milk to me at all, probably because I said I planned to BF for another year.

Have any of you noticed that your baby's appetite varies greatly? About a week ago, Abbey was eating more than I was per meal (no joke!). This week, I can barely get her to finish a small helping of meat and veggies. She's not acting sick, so what's up? Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Milk- Abbey seems to like it, but we're holding off for a while. She started getting a wheeze and sounded really phlegmy. When I was a kid, milk gave me terrible asthma attacks and it looks like Abs may have the same condition. I'll ask the ped tomorrow at her WBV.

31 inches
head: 46 cm.

2 shots..pox, and mmr, and we're VERY fussy today.

milk:so far, it's a flop.

weaning: harder than i thought it was gonna be.

speaking of stairs - how do you teach your little ones to go down the stairs? Maia learned how to go up the stairs last week when we were on vacation, but I can't get her to go down butt first...she wants to just crawl right down them, which obviously doesn't work)

sasha - Yey for "Mama!"

appetite - YES!!! Maia will eat like a horse one day, and then barely touch any food the next. I'm having a horrible time giving her a variety of stuff, though, so part of it may be that she's just bored with what I give her. She had mac'n'cheese tonight and LOVED it...really, she likes anything with cheese.

milk - we haven't had any problem with milk. I've been giving her whole milk products since she was 9 months old, and we're on our last can of formula, which has lasted about 3 weeks, mostly b/c I give her more water and more milk now rather than formula.

Maia is cruising all over the place and she's gotten so fast at crawling. As I mentioned before, she now goes up (but not down) the stairs. Her new favorite thing is to splash the dogs' water bowl (SO GROSS) and to try their food that they may have left on the floor (even grosser)!! But, I have been able to teach her to hand me whatever it is in her hand so I can see what it is. Let's just say that a lot of stuff that she gives me ends up in the trash and makes me feel like I have a VERY dirty floor. She has also started to read to herself, meaning, she grabs her book, puts it on her lap, and flips the pages while saying "jezzegobe ladi blah." She's so smart! :D

OK, gotta go back and read through...it's been 2 weeks since I've been on.

Cynder, it would be great if you could ask your DH! I guess I wonder if someone who came in contact w/ measles (say infected person coughed on you) could you then transport the virus to another person, even if you did not have it yourself. You also make a good point that DH may not be immune anyway...

measles from the CDC website: I originally thought measles weren't a big deal but apparently it can be.

Description
A respiratory disease caused by a virus

The virus normally grows in the cells that line the back of the throat and in the cells that line the lungs.

Symptoms
Rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes (lasts about a week)

Symptoms begin to appear about 10 to 12 days after exposure to the virus. The infected person first experiences a fever lasting about 2 to 4 days that can peak as high as 103 degrees F to 105 degrees F. This is followed by the onset of cough, runny nose, and/or conjunctivitis (pink eye). The rash usually appears about 14 days after exposure and lasts 5 to 6 days. It begins at the hairline, then involves the face and upper neck. Over the next 3 days, the rash gradually proceeds downward and outward, reaching the hands and feet.

Complications
Diarrhea, ear infections, pneumonia, encephalitis, seizures, and death
Approximately 20% of reported measles cases experience one or more complications. These complications are more common among children under 5 years of age and adults over 20 years old.

Measles causes ear infections in nearly one out of every 10 children who get it. As many as one out of 20 children with measles gets pneumonia, and about one child in every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis. (This is an inflammation of the brain that can lead to convulsions, and can leave your child deaf or mentally retarded.) For every 1,000 children who get measles, one or two will die from it. Measles can also make a pregnant woman have a miscarriage, give birth prematurely, or have a low-birth-weight baby.

In developing countries, where malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency are prevalent, measles has been known to kill as many as one out of four people. It is the leading cause of blindness among African children. Measles kills almost 1 million children in the world each year.

Transmission
Spread by coughing and sneezing (highly contagious)

there's more but I won't bore everyone. The complications are what scare me..I think MUMPS are less "scary", they actually say CHICKEN POX can be deadly too but I realize that is not the norm...

Alien: Wow, scary stuff. I'm feeling better about DS getting the vax at his 12mo visit now.

Sasha: Yay! Doesn't it make your heart melt :)

Aunt Liv: I've been wondering the same thing. Friends taught their son to go down on his butt but we've not had any luck either. We just need to practice and make it fun for him to butt bump it down.

When DS is not teething he is such a joy! We've had the best time this week in the evenings after school and dinner. The boy loves to play outside and help water the plants. He finally dumped sand from his sand table all over himself tonight but didn't care!

I'm totally craving a date night with DH, but that won't happen for a few more weeks :( Stupid project in Ohio followed immediately by vacation to visit my family in PA. Maybe we'll get our date sometime in July.

Ok something more pleasant...

Sarah yay for "mama"!

happy1 yay for cruising!

New word well the phone rang and it was for DH so I yelled out "Bob" a few times and what does DD say, you got it, "Bob", great now she may call her daddy by his first name.

appetite yes! It varys widely here, one day she eats like a horse, the next like a bird. A lot of time teething plays a big factor too.

Tooth #8 just arrived...

I have been able to teach her to hand me whatever it is in her hand so I can see what it is. Let's just say that a lot of stuff that she gives me ends up in the trash and makes me feel like I have a VERY dirty floor.

I do this too and yes I think the floor is still pretty dirty even if I vacuum it every day or so. Yesterday she ate a Cheerio that was who knows how old...ick!

He also said it was fine to start peanut butter, whole eggs, shellfish, etc

That is so interesting b/c our ped said to avoid nuts (I took this as b/c it's a choking hazard and to avoid peanut butter but I think I should clarify the PNB part) and shellfish. I find it so confusing that different peds have different advice.

Shoes For Wide Feet: Somebody asked about shoes for wide feet. I have a friend whose son has feet like this and she loved pedipeds (http://pediped.com). Her son is now in hard soled shoes and I know she had a hard time finding shoes that would fit...I forget what she ended up with though....wait, I think I found them: Jumping Jack Baby Kick (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/11680539/c/64463.html)

Stairs: Not sure if this will help anyone. DS knows how to go down stairs on his belly, feet first. He's been doing it for a couple of months (since he was about 9 months). It was a combination of letting him discover what worked on the two steps down into our carpeted living room and encouraging him to turn around and do feet first. While he tends to go head first on our two steps at home it certainly laid the groundwork for knowing how to safely go down steps in other places and the first time we were visiting my parents who have a full staircase I just told him to turn around and he did! Now that he is standing and cruising more (though still not walking), I have seen him go butt first on our stairs at home and we've worked a little on navigating the stairs while we hold his hands.

Alien I could go into a long explaination but the chance is pretty slim. If your DH was "immune" and not infected, the chances he could be a carrier to pass it on to your non vacc'ed DD are so low unless a mumps person sneezed on your DH and then your DH smeared it on your DD right away (in theory, of course). Now he could if his immunity was compromised and had a live strain running through him it could infect her, same as random person who had it let's say on a plane and sneezed in the vicinity of her. As DH put it - the moral of the story is to get your child vaccinated. Hope that makes sense.

Sasha I PMed you.

Question/opinion Not baby retaled Okay, we are going to disney and the age to get into the parks for free is..(ETA) online at disney it says:
ages 3 -9 pay X price.

Now, my question is:
My DS would have just turned 3 a month after we arrive and now I'm wondering..GASP..should i lie(oh that sounds bad..lying) and say hes almost 3 so i can save the hundrends of dollars on park passes or should i be honest and just pay for the ticket? I know this sounds awfull, but my friends think I should just lie and save the money and i'm really tossed about it..I'm so honest its not even funny..I already made dinner/lunch reservations(character meals) and I paid for him- They think i should have not paid for his on that either and saved the money on his plate. Okay be honest!!!!

What would you do?????????????????

**Please answer , but lets not turn this into a debate about right vs wrong..simply state what you would do and NO judging others..

Disney - If he will have just turned 3, yeah, I would lie too ;). Unlesss he looks like he is well over 3, they are never going to ask you for proof. The Disney prices are astronomical, you will save a bundle.

Cynder - Thanks!

Alien - LOL about your DD's new word!

Aunt Liv - I have become anal about sweeping our kitchen floor now because Sarah is a magnet to any food crumbs, cat food, etc. Sarah also tries to play in the cat water and pick up cat food, so gross!

psusna - I hear ya about the date night. DH and I finally just got a well needed one last Sunday night. I hope you and your DH can get one soon too!

Appetite - Yes! Sarah's varies from day to day too. Last night she would barely eat any dinner, but the night before she scarfed it down.

Stairs - We have a 2-story house and keep the stairs gated off, so she doesn't get to try and go up and down them. When should I let her? My ILs have a tiny step from their kitchen to family room and Sarah mastered crawling up and down it a few months ago, and now she can walk up and down it holding onto the wall. But our big stairs (which have openings between each stair) scare me for her!

jrdhbunny
06-08-2006, 07:55 AM
Disney- I would definitely lie.

dreshny- Yup- that's Coney Island. What gave it away, the huge Nathan's cup? :D

Yay for all of the crawling, cruising, walking and new teeth!! I saw another tooth just breaking through on the bottom- that will put us up to 5.

Food is one step forward, two steps back for us. The ped had told us to cut all baby food, but DH won't do it. No matter how many times I tell him that toddlers sometimes don't eat everything we think is good for them (or anything at all for that matter), he insists that we give James the purees so he'll have a balanced diet. Of course, now DS is refusing even that, so what can we do?? The step forward is that now DS will eat those mini fruit bites from Gerber, he loves them in fact.

Shoes- DS loves them! He doesn't try to put them in his mouth as much as play with them though. We let him play with his own shoes as long as they're not the ones that he uses to walk outside.

Dr Questions- Our ped just asked us a few questions during the course of the visit.

Date Night- Ahhhh wouldn't that be lovely?? My mom is coming into town 6/18-6/22 so hopefully she'll be able to watch James for a couple hours one night. If not, we'll have to wait for our anniversary in July.

If he will have just turned 3, then wouldn't he still be considered "3 and Under". It's my understanding that they get in free until their 4th birthday. I don't think you are technically lying.

stairs I put her on them for the first time the other day and she did manage to crawl up a few. Going down now that seems scary, even backwards. Our staircase is just so long...

Today is Abbey's WBV. I hate the thought of her getting all those shots!! I'm making DH take the afternoon off to come with us. I'm such a baby. Plus, I need to take my cat to the vet anyway. Fun times!

Abbey is now saying "baby" when she plays peek-a-boo with us. It's too cute. She also picked up her toy phone this morning, put it to her ear (the correct way!) and started babbling. It seems like she really does do something new each day. And she is LOVING her swim lessons. I am so glad.

Disney- Stretch, stretch, stretch! :)

Sasha- I would say go ahead ans let Sarah try the stairs. It sounds like she's really advanced in the walking department, so I would think the stairs will be a cinch if she crawls. Heck, even Abbey can climb our full flight and she's not even close to walking! ;) We just stand right behind Abbey so that nothing can happen. Although I have to admit, those gaps in between the stairs are a pain.

Date Night- Yeah right. We have no relatives near by. I am going to ask some of the mommies I've met here to recommend a babysitter though. I think it's important for DH and I to get some time alone. ;)

Ok, so I'm the only wuss who's still keeping their DC from the stairs :o. I'm talking about wood stairs, with 8 steps, then a landing, then another 8 steps, and each step has an open gap between them! LOL, I was afraid for the longest time that my CAT would fall through one of those gaps, so you can only imagine my fear with a child!

DH & I jooke that we are going to have a girl soon, since DS yanks so hard on his twig & berries it looks like it's gonna fall off. Boys!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BENJAMIN & JESSIE!!!

Stairs
Ours are carpeted and padded but loooooong...I have a professionally installed gate at the top and he never hangs out at the bottom. I fell down the stairs as a kid and it scared me to death, plus a few years ago I fell down these stairs. I am just not too fond of taking the chance he could go all the way down. Ouch.

Date Night
Ha! A good date night for me would be to have someone else feed, bathe & put DS to bed and I get to go to sleep as early as I wanted in a different room than him. Woo hoo!! Romantic! No immediate family in the tristate area to watch him, though I do have a couple mom friends who are more than willing. I am just sooooo not a night person, and being "on my shift" from 6am-8pm before going on a hot date with DH isn't too helpful for revving the old engine. I wish we could have a date morning - now that I'd be up for!

Happy Birthday Benjamin and Jesse!!

Stairs ~ Nic likes to go up them, but only holding onto your hands (and horizontal) ... otherwise he just sits at the bottom and cries for someone to help him up. He LOVES to play in his bathtub (we leave all his toys in there in between baths) so he will seriously grab fingers and "walk" to his bathroom 20 times a day if you'd let him... He also likes to throw toys down the stairs but has no desire to go down himself. I'm sure that day is coming...

Disney ~ Umm yea. I'd stretch the truth too... for a MONTH??? yea...

Date Night ~ My mom is pushing for us to take one... we're slowly trying to transition Nic to his crib and I know she wants to ummm, help. But, cio is not for us. Nic will outlast any attempt, and I don't want to give him the idea that when I say no/do this/etc. that if he cries long enough, I'll give in. And, I know thats what she wants to do... ugh. I would love to take her up on it... but not til I know Nic will go down smoothly... (I love my parents, but they still think I'm their little girl... ugh!! They mean well and respect my wishes about just about everything else - for the moment - but... in a year or so, I'm so gonna have issues foodwise with them i think...)

thank you! and no problem, it makes sense to list just the 12 month!

date night we had a long overdue one last week. For mother's day, my parents gave me money to have dinner out w/ DH. They came to babysit but I fed her dinner and gave her a bath since my mom is worried about dealing w/ her in the tub. We went out after her bath and my parents put her down. We had a nice long dinner out and tried a new restaurant. We had appetizers, entree and dessert! Usually w/ DD we only get salads/entree and skip dessert b/c she has had it.

QOTD - then vs now is anyone interested in having some fun? It might be fun for people to post one picture of their baby as a newborn and one at one year to see the difference. Just a thought. I don't like having too many pics of DD floating around but would be willing to leave it up for a day or two. So what does everyone think?

Ok, I think I'm caught up, for the time being.

shoe eating: Oh, Landon LOVES to eat shoes, the dirtier the better. It drives us nuts!

eating:Landon has been eating like a bird for the past week. Glad to hear everyone elses dc goes through these spurts. One week, he'll eat more than me, and weeks like this, I'm wondering how he's surviving on such a small amout of food?

showering: I always shower and get ready during his morning nap. Don't know what I'm gonna do when he drops the a.m. nap!

date night: Lucky for us, my parents live in the same town we do. We normally get a night out about once every couple of weeks. They're constantly begging for us to go do something and leave him w/ them.

Happy Birthday to those babies whose b-days I missed!!!

Landon had his first hair cut last week. Just a trip above the ears. I took him to our family friend who also does mine. She's also his Godmother.

Mods, here are Abbey's stats from yesterday's WBV. Thank you!

Head: 47cms (90th)
Weight: 22lbs 2oz (75th)
Height: 30.5 inches (90th)

Abbey is still in the same percentiles from the last visit. Tall and skinny with a big head, just like her parents. :D Kim, thanks for asking, I did ok with the shots. I did have to sit down while they were taking her blood for the iron check. Blood makes me a little queasy. Can't wait for the first time she gets a scrape!

Ok, so I'm the only wuss who's still keeping their DC from the stairs? No! Avery can crawl up, but not without supervision since she sometimes decides to try and sit down mid climb. So far, she refuses to go down backwards. The stairs to our basement have a door at the top - we just keep it closed when we are hanging out on the main floor. We gate the doorway to the back part of our house as well...this keeps her away from the stairs to the upper level and out of the bathroom.

Anyone else with a DS experiencing this self-discovery?I don't have a DS ;), but DD is doing the same.

Too funny that you would post that today because just last night I was looking through Sarah's newborn pics and reminising about my little baby. A friend of mine is in town visiting with her 7 week old son (who was born 6 weeks premature) and I was trying to remember if Sarah was ever that small, LOL. I'll definitely post a then vs. now pic.

Glad I'm not the only stair wuss out there! I know we need to start introducing her to them, but like I said, those gaps between the stairs scare me! Plus, I once fell down our stairs (carrying laundry, yes I am a klutz :o ) and I worry about things like that!

Alicia - Glad all the shots went ok. Sarah and Abbey practically have identical stats (haha, like it would be any other way :p) Although Sarah was 30 inches and I was told that was the 75th % - a 1/2 inch boosts a baby up to the 90th %?

Sasha- Funny you should mention the percentiles. I have been thinking they're kinda screwy for a while now. Sometimes people post that their baby is like 22 lbs and is in the 50th percentile, but Abbey turned up in the 75th percentile. Granted, sometimes there is a sex difference, but still. I wonder if doctors read that chart wrong sometimes.

Happy Birthday to those I've missed!!!!

And in other news.............................................. .....I'm pregnant!!!!! It was a shock to say the least. I'd just stopped BCP not more than 2 wks before I got the BFP. We were wanting DD and our second one to be about 2 years apart (so hoping for an April or May 2007 baby). As it is we will be having a baby in February 2007. So much for being able to reuse some of Sarah's clothes. Oh well....if it is a boy then we wouldn't have been able to reuse much but a few gender neutral outfits/sleepers. I'm praying this a sticky one as I really don't think I could go through another m/c now. The one a few months back (when we weren't trying and on BCP) was enough to try and work through. Food Tip
My friend suggested the following tip to feed "choking foods" to our kids:
Grate it!
So I have been grating pear, apple, etc and Thomas goes crazy. Easy for him to pick up and feed himself. You can do fruits & veggies & cheese. I picked up a small grater at Target that's easier to clean so I can grate things more often.

Howdy all, I'm writing from the biggest craphole of a hotel that I've ever been in and I'm on hold with Priceline trying to see if I can get a refund and get the hell outta here! For future reference, never stay at the Fayetteville North Days Inn. Ugh, of course no one is here that can authorize a refund. Damn...I might be eating $135. There's no way in hell I'm staying here.

Shoes for wide feet: I was the one that was asking about shoes for wide feet. Aidan's feet are like little rectangular prisms, fat and wide and not very long. We're just now in size 3s. I know Stride Rite does wide.

Kim: Aidan's feet are not only wide, they're tall. I have to get her sandals with velcro on the tops so I can open them up and strap the shoe around her fat little foot. She has my mom's feet and walks like her so I think she may wind up being a lot like her, physically. Not bad, short, small boned, big boobs. ;) It's weird to think of my 13 month old in terms of size of her future boobs. :p

Vodka and chocolate? Sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday night. ;)

So you are saying her feet are shaped more like a shoe box than a shoe, right? I'd stick to the extra-wide sandals that velcro across the top to give her that extra space.

And ITA that its wierd to think of out babies as pubescent adults. Though I have already told DS he is:
a. Not to have sex. Ever.
b. Never to do drugs, even if his high school friends try to peer presue him
c. To tell me if someone ever picks on him so I can kick their ass

Although it it were up to DH, we'd start trying again now . He said "let's just get it all over with." Seeing as I'm the one who gets to be pregnant for 9 months, I vetoed it ;). I think we'll realistically start trying sometime before Sarah turns 2.

So we were at this party on Saturday afternoon and there was a couple there with a 19 month old DD, who they were letting drink Coke out of a bottle! And then they re-filled it for her! And then they complained that she would never go to bed earlier than 10:30pm...ummm, gee, wonder why!

Oh. My. God.
Though I gotta say, my SILs boys have always been allowed to drink Coke. Family members would literally give them a full can at 2/3 years old and wonder why they were running all over the place. Hmmmmm....that's a toughie.

Kim~I love Cafe' Press!! I can't take credit for the idea I'm using - stole it from another mom! For her DS, she is getting one of DH's favorite team jerseys and doing the same thing. My biggest fear doing this is keeping the shirt clean.

Pics~Whenever we start posting them is fine by me.

Sasha~My MIL has tried to give DD soda, and I about flipped. She didn't do it but gave me a look like I was absolutely nuts!

Ally~Love the pics!

tgray~I still love that 12 month shot of Aidan!

Kim~I can't believe how big Thomas looks in that second pic!

Alien~What a doll!

Okay DH and I are putting DD through what we are calling "Bottle Boot Camp". We are only giving her a bottle at bedtime these days and sippies during the day. She has been super cuddly with explosions of kick, screaming, red-faced tantrums over wanting a bottle.

So cute..........just a second ago I started wiggling my fingers at DD and she says "ti, ti, ti, ti". Whenever we tickle her we always say "tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle".

Being preggo: I loved it too, though I worried like a crazy woman the entire time. Sometimes I think that I would love to do it all again, but I just don't know if I can handle 2 kids (well, 3 if you include DH somedays :) )

This is exactly how I feel. I was fortunate to have a very easy pregnancy, no MS, no complications, I really enjoyed it. But I'm terrified of having 2 to deal w/ (plus DH :D ) If we have another I'd like to wait until DD is maybe 3 or so. DH thinks they should be closer in age but my theory is that it would be better if one was somewhat more "self sufficient" (i.e. potty trained etc.)

tgray Yuck, nothing worse than a gross hotel room. I hope you got your $ back.

allyray love the cakes (even if they did mis-spell his name) and outfit. I especially love the smash cake w/ elmo! Nice job!

tgr68 I love the idea w/ the bigger shirt, I wish I had thought of that. I bought DD one in 12-18 months

speaking of taking PICTURES I cannot get DD to sit still for her Father's Day pic (wearing "Daddy's Girl" T). I sit her down and she immediately crawls over to the camera. She won't sit still for a minute. Any suggestions? I have to do it along b/c it's for DH's gift...plus he needs to be out of the house. Help! i may have to sneak her over to the photo studio but I hate to shell out the bucks if I can take it myself.

Wow, Cynder, he looked like a big kid when he was first born! Such a wise little face.

Everyone's babies are so cute. Some have changed a lot and some look a lot like their newborn pics. Aidan looks a lot like her newborn pics, she hasn't changed much except for hair color (just like her mommy!)

Ok, wish me luck and send me good thoughts and prayers, I'm off to a job fair for the school district we're moving into!

I know its terrible....but I will sit him down on one side of the room and put on Boobah or Sesame Street then sit between him and the tv. He is transfixed by the boob tube so sits still enough for me to get still shots of him in whatever he's wearing. otherwise he goes straight for the shiny expensive piece of technology in my hand. I plan on doing this for my D-A-D shots.

Food idea: So over in the 18mo food thread I got an idea for black bean burgers and the ladies recommended the MorningStar brand -- THEY ROCK! Dh inhaled his and I made mine into a sandwich with cheese and an english muffin. MMMMMMMMMMM. It's basically black beans and rice in patty form plus corn and tomato. MMMMMMM.

I promise to come back and read all that has happened but I just need a night to relax after what happened earlier.

We were getting ready to leave when DD fell out of her toddler rocker (she stood up in somehow even though she was strapped in the chair). We comforted her and she quit crying in a few minutes. We looked her over and didn't see anything. So DH was getting ready to change her diaper. He said something (I was on my way to the bathroom at the time). When I got back from the bathroom I saw what he was talking about. A bump was on her forehead. So off to the ER we go. They check her out and say it is a hematoma (broken blood vessel under the skin and the blood is pooling underneath the skin). They gave us a list of things to watch out for over the next few days and an ice pack.

What a nerve racking thing to happen. I haven't decided if I like the chair or not or if we will continue to use the chair. Part me says no. But DD is definitely not afraid of anything and is sort of a daredevil. This won't be the first bump she'll get.

I feel like a very bad mommy for letting her fall. I know it wasn't my fault but I can't help but think that way. All the time at the ER I felt like I was going to throw up. It didn't help that we had to walk past where someone had been smoking not long before we walked by. I walked past and took a breath and nearly tossed my cookies right there and then. How I didn't is still something that I can't figure out.

I feel like a very bad mommy for letting her fall.
Please don't! No matter what you do, you can't protect her from hurting herself. Babies are inherently curious and it is their #1 job to test their surroundings....including gravity. Thomas falls All. The. Time. He is a walking bruise, not to mention the little scrapes and bumps he gets almost every day. Its just their way of learning, and we just need to respond accordingly when things happen. I think you are a very good mommy for being aware enough of something gone awry and taking her to the ER when you did.

And cigarettes were my worst enemy when I had m/s. I literally had to cross the street if someone was smoking or I'd start gagging from a block away. Blech.

First of all .. CONGRATULATIONS on #2 in the making!
Second of all .. you are an awesome mommy so please stop beating yourself up (I know - wya easier said then done). Accidents happen - you simply can't prevent them 100% of the time. The thing you can do is react properly once they happen and you did just that.

Must find time today to do my now and then pics :)

Sarah will join him in that strike ;). LOL, I actually think Thomas has more hair than she does though!

usafwife - Don't beat yourself up, like everyone has said, you're a great mom and babies do things like that all the time. You did the right thing by bringing her to the ER. Think of it this way - it probably won't be your last trip there with her! ;) :p

Alien - There is no seatbelt, but I honestly have never worried about that. Sarah is so content just sitting there and pushing the buttons and playing the music (you have no idea how sick I am of the song London Bridges, and apparently Ahavnes is too!). It has a tall bar for you to push and when they get older, it becomes what I like to call a Flintstones car - they can put their feet down and push themselves. It is without a doubt Sarah's favorite toy, I highly reccommend it.

Socks question - Anyone have a clue if kids should wear socks with tread with shoes? When The Children's Place was having a huge sale, I bought a ton of them but now I am wondering if she should wear those kind of socks with shoes on?

Meri: Jackson fell two nights ago -- in the bathtub! I was terrified. He has a bruise on his ear from where he hit the faucet but that's it. I think I checked on him a dozen times that night. You did a great job of taking care of her!!! She appreciates your care too, even though she can't tell you just yet :)

I have that same ccar. I was concerned about the lack of a seatbelt b efore I got it. I was actually going to try to find one to buy and install. But once I got Jack in the car I realized that I was totally comfortable with him being in the car without a belt.
I think it helps that at this age the floor board is in place and therfore they are sitting with their legs straight out in front of them. Sitting with bent knees (like sitting in a chair position) would concern me a bit since that would make it easy for them to get to a standing position. But since their legs are straight out in front of them and under inside the car it makes it a bit more difficult for them to get out :)

This is the situation with the Step2 car. It has and NEEDS a seatbelt, because DS can so easily stand from the seated position. And yesterday he realized if he stands while pushing back, he can slide up and 'lay' against the wide pushbar to stand while driving.

On a side note, does anyone else's DC make the back-and-forth HURRY UP motion when they are in the car? :D This cracks me up, like we're not going fast enough for him!

WTH? I am not getting notifications! I hate that.

Abbey is now facing forward in the car. Scott turned the seat around on Sunday. Apparently it was really bugging him that she wasn't turned around. (Not sure why b/c he never drives her anywhere alone, but whatever. ;)) It's so weird to see her facing me now. I think she's kind of in shock about it.

Meri- Abbey has fallen many times as well. I agree with the others, you're still a great mom! :)

Alien- I will say that Abbey does turn aroun
