My DD will be 7 months on 6/3. I am probably going to start letting daycare feed her some solids. Probably oatmeal cereal mixed with fruit or a veggie. Only things I have already given her at home. Right now I only do this 1x a day so I would probably stop feeding her solids in the evening.

When did everyone else start sending solids to daycare?

I am breastfeeding and hoping that this will cut down the amount my DD takes at daycare. I can't pump enough to keep up. Well, I can but it takes alot of my time. Today she drank 18oz from 8am-2:30pm. I am hoping that maybe she will cut back to like 16oz + a small meal of solids. She is definitely getting the ~30oz a day of breastmilk that is average (according to her pediatrician)

Things I am thinking about is that I will miss feeding her solids at night. Not that its always great, but its funny sometimes. I probably wont introduce 2 meals of solids until she is 7.5/8 months or so.

I'd love to hear what others have done.

Thanks!

We didn't do daycare, but when I went back to work P/T my son was around 6-7 mos. old. I tried leaving bottles for him (I was gone 3-4 hours in the afternoon, 3 days a week) but he often would only take a sip and then it would have to be tossed (sobs).... So I started leaving the small jars of organic pears, and he would eat about 1/2 of that while I was gone.

I did not really 'do' solids with him regularly at this age, so it was more a 'treat' when he was being babysat. Our sitter thought it was fun, anyway. :)

DS started getting 1 jar with a smaller bottle around 7 months (in addition to 2 other larger bottles). Around 9 months, they told me they thought he was showing signs of readiness for more solids, so he got 2 jars with 2 smaller bottles and 1 larger bottle for later. Now he's just over 12 months and gets a YoBaby yogurt and a banana for breakfast with a sippy cup of soy milk, a jar or 2 of food at lunch with a sippy of soy milk, and has a snack of some sort with a sippy of soy milk mixed with breastmilk. (I am still trying to get through my freezer stash).
I still gave DS solids at night though, too. Mostly just because I wanted him to try new things since he started off as a fussy eater and now eats everything. He certainly still got plenty of BM (and still does).

I started sending a solid lunch to daycare when she started eating solids, at 6 months. Now she's getting ready to turn 9 months and I'm going to start sending her a breakfast too...

He started cereal just shy of 6 months. At 6 months we sent a vegetable with him everyday. Now, at 7 months, I send a fruit and a veggie. Most days, I get a bottle returned - which means that I don't have to mix in formula to stretch my BM bottles.

DD ate cereal only at night from 4-6 months. Starting at 6 months, she also got cereal for breakfast at daycare. By 6.5 months, she got veggies for lunch at daycare and at dinner. Then at 7 months we added meat to lunch and dinner.

Now at 7.5 months, she gets cereal (2-3 Tb) and fruit (1/2 jar) for breakfast, veggies and meat (1/2 jar each) for lunch, and veggies, meat and fruit (1/2 jar each) for dinner. She never decreased BM...still get 3, 5oz bottles at daycare and BF's in the morning, after daycare, and at bedtime. I can sympathize as it's also hard for me to keep up...I get up at 3am to pump everynight in order to get enough (in addition to pumping 3x's at work).

My daughter is sucking down ~20oz a day at daycare. I dont know how she is doing it. I haven't had to give formula yet, but I pump ~15oz a day then I give 5oz of frozen BM that I pumped over the weekend. I am hoping that I can cut back to 15oz a day + some solids instead of that 5oz of frozen BM.

Well I think from what I've read here I will go ahead and let daycare give her some solids aruond lunch time. Like 2 tablespoons of oatmeal and 1/3 of a jar of applesauce mixed in. We'll see how that goes!

We started solids at 6mo once a day at night. At 7mo we started sending food to daycare so he had two solid meals a day. At 9mo we started sending two meals to daycare so now he had three meals a day. He also takes 2 bottles EBM (4-6oz ea) and nurses once during the working hours of the day.

We started DD on solids at 6 months and were sending her with solids to daycare almost as soon as we started them.

We'd send her with something for lunch and that was it. We tried once to send her with cereal for breakfast but she stopped taking enough enough b'milk, so stopped. Took us awhile to work up to more than one meal, and DD wasn't the biggest fan of solids for a long time.

We would only send her with foods we'd tried at home first -- just to make sure she didn't have a reaction. We're very, very food picky with DD, we drive people nuts. :)

Oh, and we'd always sent her with between 20 and 24 ozs of milk...once she started solids she definitely scaled back to between 16 and 20. Now we're lucky to get 16 into her. (She's 9 months)

We started having daycare give her one feeding of rice cereal at 5 months. As we've increased the amounts & varieties of solids she eats, we send instructions for daycare to do the same. They provide all food & diapers, so they just keep a list of what I've already allergy tested DD for and pick from their selection on hand. They feed her breakfast & lunch and we feed her dinner at home after work. DD will be 7 months tomorrow and eats:

Breakfast: 2 TBSP oatmeal + 1/2 #2 fruit
Lunch: 1/2 #2 veggies
Dinner: 2 TBSP oatmeal + 1/2 #2 veggies
4 - 5 seven oz bottles of formula

This month we'll work on introducing meats.

Ok, my DD started getting a solid lunch at daycare this week. She is getting about 2 tablespoons of Oatmeal mixed with water + 1/3 of a small jar of fruit. She has gone down to <15oz of breastmilk now. Is this OK? I do nurse her 2x before she goes to daycare in the morning and another 2x each evening.

I am not giving her solids at home if she has had them at daycare. Oh, and she will be 7 months old next Saturday. I just want to see she is taking an OK amount of breastmilk still.

Also, her 2 daycare teachers both left within 1 week of each other (dont get me started!) SO she might just be adjusting to the new teachers too.

Thanks!
