Close friends of ours had a baby boy on Friday. I am looking for something a little different to get them....the couple that already has everything! I am looking to spend about $100 or so.
I have some ideas based on what my ds received but I am looking for some more input....ideas???

We received a 100% handmade quilt - no machine work at all. We got it from a coworker of my mom's, whom I've never met. I was so touched... It is truly my favorite gift I have ever received for anything.

All of the personalized things - a quilt with name and birthday, a silver cup with initals and a silver picture frame with name and date.
I don't know if you are into scrapbooking, but a friend just made a scrapbook for her sister as a baby gift, She basically did all of the borders and titles and frames, but left it empty for her sister to fill in. I thought that this was so neat.
i don't know that this is unique but considering all i got when DD was born was fancy clothing, this certainly was well-recieved...a friend gave us a gift certificate to the photo place in BRU. i believe the value was $75. it was a great gift, especially b/c it wasn't something we would have normally paid for ourselves.

I didn't get this for a baby gift, but I got something very similar for a wedding shower gift. LOVED it!
Also, in terms of personalized things, maybe a personalized book - with the child's name used throughout the book.
I think the scrapbook idea is great if you are able to do that!
My favorite gift wasn't so much unique, but as others have said it was handmade and personalized. My BFF made a fleece blanket (the no sew ones where you cut strips along the edges and tie them off to keep the 2 pieces of fleece together) and had it embroidered w/ a flower on one side and DD's name on the other. (it's more a blanket you put on the floor so baby can lay or play on it vs. one you would sleep with) It was the ONLY handmade and personalized gift we received...and my BFF is not the crafy type so it made it that much nicer that she went to the effort of making this for us.

One thing I liked was a personalized book called "My Very Own Name". And it was a story that used DS full name.
Another item that I bought myself that would be a good gift, was a "Babywrappers" towel. It ties behind mom's neck so she doesn't get wet getting baby out of the tub. It was about $35.

I did not get this but think it is really cool. You can get a stock certificate framed. There are a few places out there on the web that sell stock, famed and with a plaque. You can have it personalized with the baby's name, dob, etc.
Here is the big One out there: One Stock (http://www.oneshare.com/?AID=605737&PID=1506203&SID=framed+stock)

A Hadley Pottery dinnerware set. Very cute but don't break anything as they aren't cheap to replace! Aiden broke his bowl last year and it was $25 to replace.
