My DS has, unfortunately, inherited my skin issues and is suffering through some nasty dermatitis right now. Ped doesn't think it's a reaction to anything, but just in case I'd like to make sure I'm using the most sensitive-skin friendly products out there. Right now I use Burt's Bees, Mustela, and California Baby products (all of which claim to be for sensitive skin).....but I'm wondering whether anyone has gotten the opinion of a dermatologist re: which products are mildest and best for a baby with sensitive skin.

If you've heard from another doctor (such as a ped), that's helpful, too...but I'm primarily interested in a dermatologist's view. THANKS!

i suffer from dermatitis also, have all my life. i would visit an allergist as well as a dermatologist to make sure you have all your bases covered. other things you can do include getting a water softener in case your you have hard water in your area (water softeners also help reduce chlorine, i think, which is a drying agent.) Aveeno makes good skin care products, as i'm sure you're aware, and they have a baby line available now too. i use Eucerin on my DD's skin when she gets occasional bouts of eczema. it clears it up quickly.

do a search for cradle cap here if that becomes a problem, i think some mommies have discussed what to do it if occurs. thankfully i haven't run into that yet. (knock on wood.)

hope your little one feels better!

My aunt is a pediatric dermatoligist. She told me to use Cetaphil or California Baby products on my son's sensitive skin. She also loves Vaseline. We use straight vaseline as our diaper cream and I apply it to his face before bed each night in case he drools and lays in it. If you plan to go in a pool, she recommends using vaseline over the whole body the morning of that pool day and then a shower afterwards followed by more vaseline. For sunscreen, she said either CA Baby or Neutragena Sensitive Skin. HTH!

My doc said Mustela was too perfumey for extra-sensitive skinned babies & to use Cetaphil cleanser if we had any skin issues.

We use regular Cetaphil lotion (they don't have a dedicated baby version) and the CA Baby Sensitive Skin shampoo/bodywash/bubble bath.

My aunt told me to avoid aquaphor because it has lanolin in it which can irritate eczema. She prefers vaseline and a little hydrocortisone when it really flares.
