My cousin is graduating high school and I'm trying to figure out something thoughtful to give her. I was thinking of picking up Dr. Seuss' "Oh the Places You'll Go" book along with these cute luggage tags I found at Hallmark (below). Kind of a nice send-off without spending a ton of money since May is a ROUGH month with multiple birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day and graduations.

Does that scream "Cheap Cousin" or is it OK?

Is this cousin heading off to college?

If so, why not get a laundry bag with some essentials? Laundry soap, fabric softener, a small dictionary/thesaurus, a roll of quarters, a box of microwave popcorn, slippers, you know things she'd need heading off to college?

I second what jennylou suggests. I got a laundry basket with detergent, fabric softener, kleenex, hangers, etc. as one of my HS grad gifts when I was going to college. It was a great gift!

I remember getting OH the Places You Go for graduation! I loved that book and still have it. I would recommend that for any HS grad.

I do think something like a laundry basket would be great too. I would have loved one of those back then!

I love the tag. What about pairing it up with one of those small suitcases to put papers in? They're around $10

When I went off to college my mom got me those boxes that go under your bed for storage. I never would have thought about them but they certainly came in handy! She filled them with stationary supplies that I never would have thought to have brought with me bc we always just had them around the house -- scissors, pens/pencils, rulers, a stapler, etc.

Another really good thing to have is a hot pot. Those are like $10 at BB&B. An iron and a small ironing board is great too. I was the only one in my dorm that had a small ironing board frosh year and I was always lending it out.

My aunt gave me rolls of quarters for the laundry machines. I never would have thought of that either. Most colleges use those pre-paid cards now though I think, although my niece, who is going into her sophomore year, says she prefers using coins still.

Last year I got my niece an entertainment book for the city where she goes to school. That's only practical if the college is in a major city but she said it had some really good stuff in it and she is always complaining about the cost of going out so it came in handy for her.
