I have been on a C kick for boys names lately. I like
Cole
Collin
Connor
Cameron
I don't know where it came from. I think that if I find out that we are having a boy, I might change the name. Not sure how DH will feel about it.
Also I have been on the old names for girls like
Alison
Katherine
Sabrina
Madeline
I still love the name Phoebe but those are just other names that have been popping into my head lately.
If we change anything we are keeping it a secret until after the baby is born. I am not having the same arguments about baby names with my family again.

For girl names I love:
Pearl (this is my #1 pick because I think it is classically beautiful and it is my grandmother's name)
Anastasia (pronounced Ah-nah-sta-SEE-ya, which is the Russian way to say it). I'll probably never use this because no one would pronounce it the right way and it would just cause a lot of grief for my daughter!)
Annabella
Katharina
Zhanna

bnaseelen2 Tristan Alexander is my best friend's son's name. :) It is very nice
What do you think about the name Dominic for a boy? It has really grown on me. Does it sound nice with the middle name Carl or does it run together? Dominic Carl.

Black, I love the name Dominic! If my friend's brother wasn't named that, it would definitely be on my list! I think the C's run together with Carl as a middle name... Just my opinion! :)

YAY, now i can actually share my names since we are TTC!!!
Peter Marshall
Parker Marshall
Peter was DH's grandfather, Marshall was mine. Parker was just another P name i was thining of, but it will probably be Peter.
Avalon Grace (my fave)
Patricia Grace
If we name a girl Patricia Grace, we'll probably call her Grace (for DHs grandma). Avalon is by far my fave, but DH does not like the Ava as a nickname, and I wouldn't want to cut out Avalon and call her Grace. So we'll probably stick with Patricia Grace.

I recently fell in love with the name of the famous (infamous?) skier, Bode (pronounced boh-dee). An alternate spelling is Bodey or Bodie. Another variation is Boden (a Scandinavian word meaning "shelter" apparently).

Amanda, yeah I think so to. I need to use Carl though. It has special meaning to us. We are going to have two middle name though because my FH has three names and so do others in his family. It is a tradition, so maybe I can find a good name to fit between Dominic and Carl. Does Dominic sound good with Evelyn Christine (also need to find another name for this one) as a sibling set?

I have read through this eontire thread and it has helped me out tremendously. I do have a question though (actually 2) and I didn't want to create a whole new thread.
1st - My 3 yr old Beagle is named Kylie (pronoucned Ki-lee). I have ALWAYS loved the name Kayla for a girl. Now that I am 5 months pregnant I am still stuck on the name. Everyone says it is too close to my dogs name.....do you think they are right?
2nd - If we use Kayla we are having a heck of a timr coming up with middle names. Our last name starts with a J and is 2 syllables (it is not johnson).
Can anyone suggest middle names to go with Kayla. We have come up with Mashea and that is about it.
Before I forget...I will add my favorite names as of the moment:
Girls
Ashley
Morgan
Kayla
Mackenzie
Abigail
Ryann
Boys
Ryan
Conner

PLNU ~ I don't think Kayla is too close to Kylie at all. What about using Ryann or Morgan as her middle name? I think Kayla Ryann is adorable! You have great taste. Our DD will be Mackenzie Morgan!

Well apparantly the names you agree on before getting pregnant just aren't good enough when you are pregnant!
We are still pretty solid on our boy choice: Tristan Michael
We've gotten a few comments on how it is a girl's name and all that. Apparantly some people have never heard of the knight's of the round table.
Our girl choice is very much up in the air. Our original choice was Isabella. I still love it but I just feel like there are so many other options out there that I like just as much. Here are a few others we are debating:
Arabella
Aurora
Melanie
Macey
Decisions, decisions!!
I have made two decisions though:
1. We won't tell anyone our choice until after the baby is born. I think people might hesitate to make rude comments once it is already the name of our baby.
2. I'm not going to stress over names until I know if it is a boy or a girl!
BlackMagicRose is your DH Italian? I see the name Dominic as a choice, and that he has 2 middle names, and I think that he is Italian bc it is also a tradition in my family to have 2 middle names, and we are Italian.

Kaedens mommy ~ Thanks for the reply, It does appear that we have very similiar taste:)
Matter of fact...I talked to DH today (he is out of town) and it appears that at the moment we have narrowed down our name list to 3:
Ashley Morgan
Kayla Morgan
Kayla Mashea
Michelle Renee ~ I LOVE all the girl names you have listed....I think Arabella is so cute. Close to Isabella, but still different. We noticed that our name choices have changes quite a bit over the last 5 months, but somehow we have gone back to our original 2....kind of strange. About Tristen....I have heard it both for girls and boys..I say if you like it, don't worry about others.
My DH and I have also decided to keep our names to ourselves for basically the same reason you are. So many people have opinions and preferences and in the end we have decided to NOT make it a consensus. Once the baby is here I would hope that people would hold their tongue alittle bit...at leaat around us:).

PLNUBRIDE, thanks! It is a funny story how we came up with the name Arabella. It is actually the name of a street I pass by a couple times a week for work. I thought it was so pretty so I mentioned it to Mike and he loved it. The only problem is that our families are against any name that is even the slightest bit unusual. They expect every baby to be named John, Katie, Jessica...etc.
Let's hope that people do hold their tongue once the baby is born. I have "threatened" my mom by saying:
"Do you want me to have to explain to my daughter someday that you hate her name?"

I have to agree w/ your husband on this. I think Y's in boys name are way too feminine. I think Bryan is not that bad..but I still prefer it w/o it.
Our friends have a Braydon Michael. I feel bad admitting this but I REALLY don't like their spelling. (I happen to have a Brandon Michael..but he's a JR..)
I like the name & I think the spelling you're going w/ is much better than the Bradyn personally. But again, I'm really picky when it comes to feminine things & boys.

Cookie and Rose- In the end, I could see my hubby's point. I'm sure people will spell it wrong all the time (they'll drop the "e"- since that's the more popular form), but I get that all the time with my name (I often get "Michele"). I don't like the spelling of "Braydon" either--it seems wrong!
I have been really surprised because I was expecting a lot more: "Braeden? What kind of name is that?" from friends and family--since it's not very traditional (everyone is my family - with the exception of my brothers- are Michaels or Johns). Most reactions have been positive though :)
Cookie - I like Brandon too-- I think it's a great boy's name-- for some reason DH couldn't get "Brandon Walsh" out of his head though! :o

Oh, I'm so glad you said that. I'm not the only one that pictures a donkey when I hear that name!
//back to lurking
Am I the only one that now that I am expecting, there is something wrong with EVERY name?
Jonah - Negative conotation from the bible
Iona - "I Own A"
Liliana - My DH has a client name Ileana and he hates her
Eoin - Celtic for John, pronounced between Owen and Ewan - kid will have to tell EVERYONE how to pronounce it
Rocco - Madonna kind of ruined this for me, plus, my name is Adrienne, just a little to close to Rocky for me
Caden- Combination of my and DH's names. My nephew is Aidan and DH's cousin just named his son this
Kieran - While a beautiful Celtic name, it's also a Japanese beer. Our dogs are Guinness and Sierra and our cat is Stella; all named after beers. Everyone has teased us that we would continue it with kids too, just can't do it!
Zara - FIL had a dog named Zar that was total meathead
Roan - I'm rowing my boat
Sergei - I could not torture my son by putting the word "gay" in his name, it's just begging for teasing.
Our last name ends in "son", so that rules out any "son" names (Madison, Carson, etc.). Also, it is a 1 syllable, very english name, so that rules out many very exotic sounding names (just doesn't flow right).
The only consolation I have is that we have decided to just use my maiden name as the middle name. I really don't like the concept of middle names, seems kind of like a silly American thing to me, considering most countries don't have them, or just use the mother's maiden name if they do. You never hear most people's middle name and a lot people end up dropping it when they get married. So, I feel like I shouldn't stress out about trying to come up with 2 when I can't even figure out one!

I came in here to post the very same thing.
Not to be creepy, but this has really intrigued me. How can a last name end in "son" and be only one syllable?
Sorry Krysten, total pregnancy brain fart, it is a short 2 syllables, d'oh! I thought for sure I would get flamed on the middle name rant first, completely blanked on the syllables in the last name :o
OMG, Ade, I am so happy to find out that I am not a moron. I kept thinking..."x-son, 2 syllables, x-son, 2 syllables. What on earth has one syllable when 'son' itself is one syllable!" It was like a freakin' puzzle to me!
Thanks for clearing that up!

I think it's important to consider a lot of things when deciding what to name one's child:
- etymology
- spelling
- potential for teasing
- word association

Wrighty26- I love your name choice. I have 14 month old twin boys and one of my DS's is named Brayden Matthew. My other son is Jacob Michael. We ALWAYS get compliments on Brayden's name. We don't use nicknames for our boys but I'm sure in school they may call him Brady.
It's hard enough to pick a name for your child so go with what you and your DH both like. I think you made a great choice! :)

I didn't want to create a whole new thread for this, but I need some input.
It appears that we are currently on a new train of thought with our names. My DH REALLY LOVES the name Lilly. Although I like it alot I can't say that I want it as a first name. I have never been fond of naming a child then immediately calling them by a nickname, but it appears we might be doing such that.
Anyway, here are my questions:
1) It is totally absurd to name our DD with a first name and middle name, then immediately call her by her middle name as her nickname? (we figure sometime in the future she can lose the nn Lilly and go by her first name).
2) If our idea works, I need help with a first name.
SO far we have the following names on the list as our first name:
Morgan - 1st choise (does this sound OK with Lilly?)
Ashley - Don't think it goes with Lilly
Kayla - Don't think it goes with Lilly
Madison
Hayden
Kayden
Kaylen
Kendra
other than that I have no idea what would work with Lilly as a middle name. I know all of you are so good at names...I was hoping you could help me with other first names that go with Lilly
If it helps, our last name is 2 syllables and starts with a J and ends in "YS"
lelee17

PLNU - I don't think its absurd at all. It's actually common amongst my family/relatives. For example, we call my cousins all by their middle names and no one thinks anything of it. That's just how its always been.
Alan Rex - we call him Rex
Micheal Ryan - we call him Ryan
Patrick Raynier- we call him Raynier
you get the picture. ;) In school though, they go by their first names.
Morgan Lilly sounds pretty...as does Madison Lilly.
plnubride- i have gone by my middle name my entire life. My dad did not like my first name , so the compromise was that I would go by middle name until I went to school. The result is that my extended family...particularly my cousins, did not know my real name unless we went to high school together. I answer to both, and have never minded answering to both names.
As for first name options...I will have to think on that. Lilly is a hard name to make fit as a middle name. As a first name, I know people with daughter's named Lily Grace and Lily Rae.

Wrighty26 - I honestly didn't think of a donkey when I hear the name 'Braeden/Braden'. I actually know a little boy named Braeden, it's becoming a popular alternative to Brandon/Brendan, it seems.
What I DO think of when I hear the name, is the actor Eric Braeden, who plays Victor on Young & the Restless! :)

My husband has been going by his middle name all his life. (Don't know why my IL's even bothered with his first name, since no one really liked it anyway) When he signs things he just puts them as R. Jarett. His parents were staying with a trend of J's for the kids. He has a brother Jeremy and sister Jennifer.
His dad is called by his family Wayne (middle), while the rest of the world calls him Dennis (first name)
I think Morgan Lilly sounds good together.

Honestly, I think it is wierd to name a babyone things with the intention of calling them another. While I love nicknames, I have never understood why some people are called by their middle name. I guess the exception to that is if a child is named after his father and goes by his middle name.
If you are just going to call her Lily anyways you should just name her Lily. I know people who have called their baby by a name other than their first name saying the child could then "choose" later which name they want to go by, but I don't personally see someone choosing to go by any name other than that which they grew up with, unless they grew up being called Bertha or something.
But if you do choose to use Lily as her middle name, I think Morgan Lily sounds great!

Thanks so far for the responses.
My top two right now are:
Morgan Lilly - Although I wasn't sure how good it sounded, but you guys have convinced me:)
Madison Lilly (although I know Madison is VERY popular right now and was hoping to for a first name that was a little less common)
Dionysia - For some reason I just don't like Lilly (or the formal version of it) as a first name. Not sure why, I just can't picture our DD in HS, college or the work force using it. It think it works great for a baby and an older woman, just not in between. Again, this is just my personal opinion. However, since my DH LOVES Lilly (not Lilliann/lillianna), we compromised with using it as a middle name.
MichelleRenee - I have always thought what you posted...that is why the whole Nickname thing is an idea that I am not wild about
Both he and I are not set on calling her by the nickname of Lilly....I think DH just wanted the option to do so if we felt the need. And making it the middle name seemd to be the way to do it.
Hope that makes sense. Please keep the feedback coming...I am soaking it all in:)

I would also say that if the middle name will just be Lily (instead of Lillian/Lillianna and you'll call her Lilly), then leave off the extra 'l.'

My dad and little brother both go by there middle name. I don't think it's a big deal at all.

hello everyone....it has been awhile since I posted, but I wanted to come back and give an update.
First...I think that both my DH and I are becoming VERY open to the idea of the formal name of Lilian as a first name and using Morgan as a middle name. After thinking about it for some time and contemplating it for some time I think I am liking it alot more. Now, my only thing is the speliing. We are about 90% sure about this (although as yhou know things can change).
DI - I know you had made some suggestions as far as spelling - just curious if it was a personal prefence, or if there is a phonetic reason for it.
I am thinking of either : Lillian, Liliann or lilian
Does anyonw have any thoughts on the spelling? We will be calling her Lily for short...if that helps
Thanks again everyone:)
I know I'm coming very late to this conversation but I'm so perplexed I can't help but post...am I the only one who thinks donkey's make a "he-haw" noise? I know I'm sort of a city girl but I've never heard of a donkey making a "bray" noise! The thought never ever would have crossed my mind.
As for a more on-topic issue, do you all feel that Bailey is a girl's name? Can all you think is "Party of 5" when you see it? I'm due in 3 weeks and still have no name for my son. From past comments I'm guessing the "y" spells doom for this being considered boyish. Ironic that the word boy is spelled witha "y."
kmmommy

PLNU ~ I would spell it Lilian since you plan to call her Lily. To me Lillian with 2 "l's" would be Lilly and Lilliann may be mispronounced as Lily-Anne.
MMK ~ I know a little boy named Bailey and it fits him perfectly. I think it's one of those names that goes either way.

MMK, I think you're just a city girl. ;) I've always thought of donkeys making a "bray" sound. Horses "neigh", donkeys "bray." Ha, ha, ha!! :D
I know of more than one little girl named Bailey. I don't really like it for a boy or girl to tell you the truth because it makes me think of liquor. But I do think it sounds more boyish than feminine.
I like Lillian with 2 Ls and Lily with 1 L. Guess that doesn't help!

I'm having a terrible time coming up with girl names. Good thing we're not pregnant yet!
Here's what we had, but then shot them down for the reasons listed:
Serena: only knew sluts with this name
Rose: too old fashioned
Violet: too old fashioned
Victoria: don't like the inevitable nicknames (vic, vicky, tori...)
Grace: far too common now, but a beautiful meaning
Angel: too new age-y
Faith: DH doesn't like it, I LOVE it
Hope: DH doesn't like it
Naomi: my childhood best friend's name, would be too weird
We have a huge, glorious boys list, but are too selfish to share it! I think we have our first son's name down pat.
Finally settled on the girl's name Annica
Still struggling with boy's names, but the following haven't been totally ruled out yet:
Grant
Trent
Truitt
Soren (although DH's ex-GF's last name was Sorenson, so I think this would be too weird)
There hasn't been a boy's name that's really grabbed us like Annica did and knowing our luck we're probably having a boy! Oh well, 3 more months to decide!

I'm partial to Miles and Charles... obviously, since that's what dh and i have chosen to name our ds :D
If Miles ends up being a girl we are going to name her Millie.
The running joke in the family since we aren't 100% sure it's a boy is that if it's not a Miles then it's a Millie. One day MIL just said 'What are you going to do if Miles is a Millie? It just sort of stuck.
Other girls names on our list are: Gretchen, Gianna, Isabella.

We *might* be TTC #2 next year (or more likely the year after!)
With that in mind, I have 'new' names that I like. Funny how my ideas of what I used to like in a name have changed, since DS arrived. :)
DS's name is Ian James, so that one's obviously not going to be repeated!
Boys:
Sean
Nicholas
Jason
Girls:
Ella (after my favorite aunt)
Stephanie/Stefania (after my grandmother)
Maya
Two girl names I had always liked were Kayleigh and Christany. I worry that they might be too 'trendy', Kayleigh especially. Anyway, I have plenty of time to think about this, as I won't be PG for another 1-2 years. :)

We're only about 7 weeks into pg #1 and all we've been able to talk about is names. I had several picked out as possibilities and DH didn't like any of them. Of course. But we've managed to agree on a couple of options...
For a girl, we like Avery as a first name but are having trouble coming up with a suitable middle name. DH likes Nicole, but I'm not sold. This is not my original choice for a girl's name (that was Abigail), so I really have to find a good middle name. Any suggestions?
For a boy, we like Ethan Zachary. I lovelovelove the name Parker but it doesn't go with our last name at all, which is so frustrating! :)

GIRLS:
Isabella (after my dad - his name was isauro)
Mia (three intials for my aunt (Minda), dad (Isauro), and mom (Agnes))
Tea (accent over e, pronounced TAY-uh - after dh's mom - Teodora)
Ava (just cuz it's pretty, and i like that it's a palindrome)

Stephanie/Stefania (after my grandmother)
An antecdote: My cousin was named Stefanie by her mother, after our great-grandmother, Stefania (Stef-ahn-ya, not Stef-ah-nee-ah). Her mother named her Stefanie thinking that Stefania might be "too weird" and that she might resent being given a weird name. Upon turning 18, Stefanie legally changed her name to Stefania. The name has served her well, even though we all just call her Stess/Stessie. :)

Sunshine ~ even though I'm not pregnant, I love the following girl names:
Olivia
Danielle
Addison (this one is my new favorite)
Sophia
Vanessa
Gabriella
I tend to look for names that no one in my family has named their children, they have to tendency to repeat names. I think DH's cousin named her daughter Olivia.
Good Luck picking out a name. I know my DH & I will not agree on much.

I finally came up with a name I love for a son: Jacob Henry.
Jacob was my maternal grandmother's father's name and DH's maternal grandmother's name was Henriette. If I do manage to talk DH into this name, our future son will be named in honor of our maternal grandmothers.
Girl's names have always been easier for us. Right now my #1 name is Kaitlyn Lorraine.
Kaitlyn is a name I've always loved and Lorraine was my paternal grandmother's middle name. She passed away when my dad was 16, so I never got a chance to know her. I think naming a daughter after her would give me that "connection" with her that I've wanted.

Bailey as a boy's name - This is my dd's middle name, so I automatically think girl. If it were spelled differently, it might make me think 'boy' but I don't know what that spelling would be.
"Do you want me to have to explain to my daughter someday that you hate her name?"
LMAO!! Too funny you mention this. We are not telling anybody the name (and probably won't even decide til she's born at this rate) but Cameron is at the top of our list. Dh slipped and MIL overheard. We played it off as nothing so MIL still wouldn't have any idea what the name is going to be. MIL then says "Cameron!? What? No, don't pick anything wierd this time. You pick the name this time Liz, it's your turn." Not sure where that came from since I first mentioned Dd1's name to dh and we picked it. Dh then tells her "I'm telling Daytona (dd1) that you don't like her name!" She quickly realized how rude it was and hasn't mentioned anything since.
I'm definitely not a city girl and my first thought was "Where are people finding all these donkeys that say 'bray', the ones around here always say 'hee-haw'." And then trying envision how they got 'bray' out of a donkey noise. Now that Dionysia mentions it, I think I've heard the term bray before.

I've toyed around with the name Avery since it's a family name (Avery was a great-great grandmother's maiden name and my great-grandfather's and grandfather's middle name). For a girl, I like the name Avery Grace. I most likely won't use it, so if you like it take it. ;)

Donkey's do go "hee-haw" but that act is calling "braying" -- actually the definition of braying is "Making a harsh noise; blaring." It's fitting for a donkey!
Of course, all of this did not change my mind from naming my son Braeden. He is definitely a Braeden too, no doubt about it!

I can almost guarantee that Harrison will be called Harry. Then again, your Zach might be too, since Harry's a nickname for Zachary. ;)
Maddox makes me think you'd be naming him after Angelina Jolie's kid. It means "son of Madoc."
Weston reminds me of a rich town of the same name outside Boston. Either that or the hotel chain (though it's spelled Westin). :(
From your list, I like Eli and Logan the best. I know little boys named Eli & Logan here in the Boston area. :D

lol Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, DH isn't going for any of those names. He likes Gavin (my 1st cousin's new baby's name - and we would be using the same middle name - Wyatt - family name) and Austin - which is his nephew's middle name. BLAH. It was so easy to come up with Zachary Daniel. We both adored the name. Why couldn't I be having a girl?! LOL

I didn't look at the first post but names I love...
Girl: Maeve, Bridget, Cecily, Siobhan, Catherine ("Cate")
Boy: John, Declan, Edward ('teddy'), Kieran, Charles, Brady, Dillon, Teegan
LITLR -- I love Harrison and Owen. Both are so cute!
Our current list for the baby we are expecting in August:
Jane, Claire, Anne, Alison
James, Edward, William, Henry
Other names I like that DH has rejected:
Eleanor, Caroline, Margot, Maren
Thomas, Nathan/Nathaniel
Honestly, I am just thrilled that there are a handful of names for each gender that both of us like.
LILRTL -- I think Elijah is a cool name and sounds great with Zachary. Owen if very nice, although it is popular. I also like Harrison (especially since it's a family name), though I would probably avoid it if you hate Harry. I like your list better than Gavin and Austin.

FWIW, my g.f. has a son named Harrison, and we've never considered calling him Harry. People will call your child what you tell them to. I have a name that's almost impossible to shorten or nickname from, but people still tried on occasion. They quickly learned that, if they wanted me to respond, they should call me by my name.
That, and, whatever your name your child, kids will find a way to make it dirty or silly. In that case, Harry isn't so bad. (I always liked the French name, Henri - pronounced Onree - but, aside from not being French so it's pretentious, no one would every know how to promounce it.) :)

I know, I know. And I agree it's waay too common, thus I would never use it...But. I tried desperately to convince my friend who is of Irish descent to use this name for her DD. Both the mother and her DD have red hair. Aidan also means "fire." I love that for a little girl. Oh, well. She named her Kathleen, which is very pretty.
Girls (middle name would be Mae)
Amelia
Clara (I like Claire better but doesn't sound right with Mae)
IMHO, Clara is a nice alternative to Claire because it's less common these days. It's my DD's name as well, so I'm partial! :D We chose it because it was a family name.

LexyLou -
Mia is often a nickname for Amelia...maybe you could "convince" your DH that way (if it came down to it!)?? :D
Regarding popular names -- When I was pregnant I kept asking myself, "Why does it really matter"? If the name is fitting then why does "how popular" it is really matter? I have a pretty popular name... there was always one or two other Michelle's in my classes -- there is always one or two Michelle's that I have worked with, and it doesn't bother me! I remember when I was schoolage we thought it was pretty darn cool to have the same name. Just my 2 cents - nothing more :)

I'm due in August, and my DH and I will probably never agree on a name. Right now my favorites are:
Girls:
- Ella (which is growing on him, and is probably our #1 right now.)
- Mia (he likes it but isn't crazy about it.)
- Lola (which I LOVE, but he hates)
- Stella (which he doesn't like and thinks everyone will make fun of her for the whole "Streetcar Named Desire" thing)
Boys:
- Nicholas (which is our #1)

Lexy: I love the name Amelia! Would you be willing to use it as a middle name? My DH hated the name Ava but I insisted that was what we were using for DD's name (it was my grandmother's and special to me) and I let him pick the middle name. For this baby, he claimed naming rights and gave me the middle name. I was deciding between Elise and Amelia when we learned we were having a boy!

Fireside girl, what site were you going to? A lot of babynaming sites online are, well, totally bogus.
I use www.behindthename.com which actually traces etymology.
Maddox
From a Welsh surname meaning "son of MADOC".
Madoc:
Possibly means "fortunate" in Welsh.
So, 'benefactor's son' is probably the closest. I think that child of the lord would be close if it were lord as in master, not Lord as in God.

I really love the first name that we have chosen if we have a girl: Kristianna (prounouced Kristi-Ah-Naa) For the middle name, DH wants to go with Marie as he says it should be something short and simple because of the length of the first name. I guess Marie is okay, but I'm not wild about it. Does anyone have any other middle names that would go well with Kristianna?
For a boy, we are carrying on my DH's family name; so it will be James Patrick III.

I really like family names for a baby. If we have a boy it will be named after my father, James. If we have a girl I quite like Stephanie Charlotte (MIL and mom's name). I actually love my mother's name and would pull for Charlotte Stephanie, but Charlotte has become so popular nowadays. You barely run into Stephanies anymore--too 1970-80s.

I really like family names too. For ours, a girl will be Gracie Evelyn (for my grandmothers Grace and Jessie Evelyn). A son will have DH's middle name (Gage Anthony) because we couldn't agree on family names for first and middle that we both liked.
Ok, I'm not even remotely pregnant, but I think of baby names every other day. It seems that the only name we keep going back to is Anita, since it seems to be the only real name both in Spanish (my culture) and Tamil/India (DH's culture) and not hard to recognize/spell in English (although the "t" is actually a hard t). Plus my mom's name is "Ana" and she's the sweetest thing.
Still, somehow I'm not convinced. I grew up dreaming of naming my kids things like Amy, Gwendolyn and at least Celeste, and now that I want to find culturally-meaningful names for us, it's hard. There's also Lakshmi which I liked even before knowing my DH, and Uma, although I took that name as my Indian name already, but somehow I can't find a name that really feels right. Thankfully we still have about three years to go.
I love having a three-letter name with nice imagery (Sol, sun in Spanish), and I'd like to pass that onto my kids, but avoiding the mess of having a formal first name that I don't use, plus a middle name, a nickname you go by plus a Hindu name. Maybe I shouldn't have used Uma for myself.

We are all set with a boy's name--Ian Michael. But girls' names are stumping us. We totally agreed on Annika for our first DD, but can't seem to find one we love as much for a second girl. We adore Gabrielle, but very close friends, whom we see a lot, have a 6-year-old daughter named Gabrielle who's a very strong personality, and our daughter would always be "the other Gabrielle."
The current list, in no particular order, is:

A few years ago I'd have said Riley sounded like a boy, but now I hear it and think it could be either.
Since I'm in here and you're all twisting my arm... ;)
If we ever happened to have a boy he'd be:
Nicholas Daniel
and if we ever happened to have a girl these are the names we like:
Aida
Alisa
Amalia
Amelia
Arabella
Ariana
Belinda
Bianca
Catalina
Catarina
Cecilia
Dalia
Helena
Liana
Lucia
Luciana
Mariela
Melina

Natalia
Olivia
Silvia

Viviana
I'm really liking the sound of Silvia Jane.
Already have Alexander Michael, Isabella Faye, and Lilia Kate.

Need some opinions on a possible girls name:
Taylor Belle
Our last name is swedish, starts with a hard "O" and is 3 syllables long.
Thoughts?

Oh wow, Sophia, I love your whole list! (And your kids' names already.) I really like Bianca and wish we could put it on our list for a girl (I adore Shakespearean names), but DH says it reminds him too much of Binaca. Hmph.

Firefly - My boys name is on your list, I love the name Oliver. A friend just named her baby, Owen and I really like Ethan too.
For my girls I was thinking Lucy or Luciana (a friend of a friend is named Luciana but we call her Lu and I like that). I really like Penelope as well but DH is indifferent.
Great taste IMO!

tracer - I love Alea/Aleah/Aleya too, but it just doesn't go with our last name. I've also seen Aaliyah and Aleigha for other spellings. Aaliyah is personal favorite, followed by Aleya.
Pink - I think Taylor Belle O... flows very nicely. Usually I'm not too found of belle, bella, ella, etc, but I really like it with Taylor.

Don't mind me-not pregnant yet, just really, really bored.
I'm afraid we've set a trend that we can't get away from. DS has my first initial and DH's 2nd initial. We did not do this on purpose-it was more of a coincidence than anything. Now it's almost like we have to give the second kid the reverse. I go back and forth. It's so annoying. On the days I say yeah, I can't come up with any good SJ combinations that fit all of my criteria...
Shane Joseph
Seth James
Sofia Janelle
Sara Jane (too boring? I like the sound of it and the song with the same name by Genesis with our without the 'h' on the end)
blah. If anyone has any better suggestions-I'm totally up for them. FWIW, our last name is very Italian, starts with an 'r' and ends in '_ro'. So, basically any first names with an 'r' in them probably will not work (like one of my faves, Carter-waaaay to many r's).
All of that aside, I want another short, one syllable, nickname proof name if possible (if it's a boy)....
Shane
Mark
Blake
Nate
Kyle
Josh (would it be weird if we didn't go with the full name Joshua?)
For girls, I still like Noelle as my number one, I think. That was my girl name when I was pregnant with DS. I really want another boy-maybe that's why I can't come up with any girl names?:p

We are trying for #2
Our DD's initials are EKG. Her names are from the 2 grandmothers, so we feel it only "fair" to have DC #2's name from the 2 grandfathers.
If we have a boy, it will definitely be Jack after FIL, which leaves the middle name to be from my dad's family. Nothing sounds good with Jack and our last name. Maybe I can convince DH to go with Jackson, which is also from my dad's side, and then more middle names would flow better. A contender would be Jackson Edward.
If we have another girl I am thinking Emily Frances. We had agreed on Emily, which is a name from my dad's family and I didn't even know that it was DH's grandmother (whom he barely knew) name. My dad's grandmother was Emily Frances (and she had a twin named Frances Emily). And I couldn't help but have the initials be EFG.

jesseybell - DH's grandmother was named Frances and we have thought about using it as a first name (nickname Francie) if we have a girl for #2. I think Emily Frances sounds really nice! Oh, and Jack was my grandfather's name and I love it too. I like family names. :)
We are still leaning toward Cecilia for a girl, but BIL/SIL are having a baby a month before we are and they said they were considering it as well! We can't find a name we both really love. Any more suggestions (Ii posted earlier in this thread)? Nothing too Gaelic sounding, but we like Irish names.
We are 6w along with baby #2, and these are the names we like:
Boy:
It will be Cooper. This is the name we had for baby #1 who turned out to be a girl. But which middle name?
Copper Nathan (DH's name)
Copper William
Copper James
Girls:
Rachel
Sydney
Goddess Tiff

I like Cooper James best.

We love the girl's name
Keira
which can also be spelled Kyra, Kiera, or Ciara but I prefer the K spellings. For boys, we like Owen, Charlie, and Ethan.
E&O-Love Cooper James (could call him CJ as a nickname) Our son is Andrew James and we sometimes call him Drew and other times AJ. I love the name James.

Rande- I like the name and the spelling "Kiera." (It goes back to that whole "I before "E" except after "C" ... " rule I learned as a kid!). Ciara is the spelling of the singer (pronounced Sierra), so I would definitely not go that route, or people would probably mispronounce your child's name quite often. I like your boy names too!

Rande - Ciara is the original Irish spelling, pronounced "Kee-ra." If you are worried about the "See-ara" mispronunciation, then I would name her "Keira" or even "Kira."
Jesseybell - I think John Edward, nn Jack, would be great. I do like Emily Frances. :)
Leslie - some SJ combos:
Samantha Jane
Sophia Julianna
Sabrina Joanne
