I hope everything is ok Rancid.
Franni- Very funny... not to you, I'm sure, but it made me laugh. I can laugh because I know about the leaks! And the heightened sense of smell does indeed make you feel less than clean. ;) Panty liners were my best friend during the end of my last pregnancy... some are scented!

Well they never did call me back, but the husband did manage to get ahold of the doctor's office. Turns out that our baby does have a cyst on his brain. I'm going in first thing tomorrow morning to get some bloodwork done, and they said I'll be contacted right away to get an urgent ultrasound scheduled. They told him that they'd be able to see a lot more with this u/s, leading me to believe it's one of those level II or III u/s I've heard about.
I know I need to not worry about it, etc, but it's really easier said than done. Especially with these dang pregnancy hormones raging, it's tough hearing someone say that your baby has a cyst on his brain. :(

Oh, Rancid, I hope that you have gotten in touch with your doctor. I'm glad what you found on Google was reassuring.
Franni - I HATE how I smell half the time. I am so gross! I shower daily, and while it was hot, I was showering twice a day. This isn't good because my skin is so incredibly dry and itchy. So it's a huge production of stink-shower-itch-lotion and then repeat that twice a day.
Lizzie Beth - Congrats on Susie's baby sister! How wonderful to be giving your daughter a sister. :)
ausi2B - Good for you for not finding out! :) The PBK set we are using has a lot of green gingham, I love it.
I wanted to update on my LOOM diaper bag since someone had asked about it. This is what I posted on the Baby Bargains message boards:
I was so excited to order a LOOM Marsupial through the seconds sale ($40!). But when it arrived, I was VERY disappointed. It was torn, the bottom was scratched and worn, it was a little dirty, missing the changing pad, and was obviously a VERY used bag.
I called LOOM even though sales are final and expressed my frustration. She agreed that that bag probably shouldn't have been sent out and is sending me another bag. This time instead of asking for a specific color, I just asked that she send the bag in the best condition from a range of colors. She said MOST of the bags are brand new with minor flaws. That's what I was expecting. I'm hoping that the new bag they send me is okay.
FTR, I am thrilled with LOOM's customer service. She's sending me a new bag, and didn't ask me to return the old one at my expense, despite this being a "final sale" item.
And this is what I posted today after my bag arrived:
I wanted to update - I just got my new bag today, in black. It came really fast - I called on Monday to complain about the first bag and got the new bag today. It is exactly what I wanted - it is a brand-new bag, in original packaging with tags still attached. The drawstring bag and changing pad were included. It has a bit of stitching that has come loose on onw of the bottle pockets, which is the flaw. It can easily be repaired.
I originally ordered the Pacific Blue, which is a gorgeous color. The black is much more rugged-looking, but DH loved it when he saw it. This is a good thing since this bag is for both of usto carry. I think he feels better about the black than the blue - the black looks like it could be a laptop case. He likes the rivets in the strap, too.
I had seen the bag in a store, so I knew I would like it. The black has grown on me since I saw how much DH likes it. It is lined with an olive-khaki color. I like that the lining is lighter, but will probably be resistant to looking dirty.
Anyway, I am amazed by their customer service and SO HAPPY with my new bag! Well worth the price!
:)

Rancid- thinking of you, your DH and your baby boy. Hope you get some reassuring answers tomorrow. (((hugs)))
I went to my first prenatal/postnatal yoga class. It was a smaller group than I had seen in the class before and everyone (except me) is due in August or September. They all looked really good, like cute pregos, so it was reassuring that I may not end up the size of a bimp. I am a bit annoyed that they just changed the program and now charge an additional fee on top of the Y membership. oh well. I really enjoyed the class.
leaks I have been having some leaks, especially when I laugh or cough with a full or semi-full bladder. I need to remember to wear panty liners every day. confession- I was watching TV with DH one night. I sneezed and leaked- through my pants and onto the couch! DH was more than a little suprised!

Another annoying pregnancy symptom
Reflux - it started yesterday and it seems to be becoming a daily thing. Last time the reflux started around the 7th month. I think this baby is going to be huge.
Random aches and pain - Last pg, I was hiking, walking, running around till the last week of my pg. For the last week, I can barely manage anything over a snail's pace. I would feel the worst round ligament pain. I am going to see my OB today and see if it's anything bad. I had high hopes too of being able to do a yoga or water aerobics class, as it stands I can't manage a walk around the block without pain.
Geez....I thought I was done complainin'

Thanks everyone for keeping me in your thoughts! I had my blood drawn this morning for the AFP screening, and the doctor says I will be hearing from yet another lab by Tuesday at the latest to get a second ultrasound scheduled. So for now we're just waiting for the results from the blood work and hope the news is good! :)

Speaking of leaking...a few weeks ago I peed myself on my couch and blamed it on my dog!
I am nesting big time. I am taking a break from scraping wallpaper border from our bathroom, and I'm sewing and knitting like a madwoman. I made 2 circle skirts today and about 8 nursing cover-ups!

Just returning from 2 weeks back home in Massachusetts. I have missed so much! Congratulations to all those that have determined the gender!!! Such exciting news (even if you are not having what you initially imagined).
We are thrilled to be having our BIG U/S next Monday (7/17). However, DH will be away at an important conference, so a friend is coming to videotape the big event, so DH can watch it when he returns. :D
Everyone back home thinks we are having a BOY, and I do, too, but we are pretty excited to have either right now. :) I would love to have a son, but I had a sister close in age and LOVED it!!!
DD is getting more mature everyday and making me not feel as crazed when I imagine having 2 children under 2.
Leaking??? Are you refering to your nipples or urine? Because I am having BOTH issues! I need to start wearing a pad for both areas, so gross! Every sneeze sends me running for the bathroom. My nipples never leaked with DD, even when I was BFing, but they are damp when I get undressed at the end of the day. I have plenty of breast pads that I plan to use when the weather gets colder- too hot to add anything to my clothing right now.
Popped~ on most days, I look 6 months pregnant. However, sometimes I just look chubby. It must be related to the baby's position. Either way, I am feeling KICKING constantly!!!!! It is all gentle, but I am feeling the baby move often. :D
Names~ I love a few, but DH is waiting to find out the gender before we chose one. For a girl, I prefer Annabell(a) Mae- it is a combination of my sister and grandmothers' names. For a boy, we have so many choices that I would agree to, I won't bore you with the list...
Rancid~ I am thinking of you and hoping for the best! I hope the condition you mentioned is what is happening and all is well with your little boy. Hugs!!!

Ugh - I went for my 20 wk appointment yesterday and it was cancelled! Such a pain in the rear. So it has been rescheduled for next Tuesday.
Is it too early for the baby to be having hiccups? I felt the baby super early, and feel major kicks but last night while I was watching tv, for about 15 minutes I felt the baby give little movements in a rhythmic pattern, like every 2-3 seconds. hiccups?
Rancid13
07-14-2006, 08:55 AM
Leaking~I haven't had any leaking down below, even when I sneeze or laugh hard, but then again I've been pretty good the last few years about doing Kegels...not sure if that has anything to do with it.
But my nipples have been leaking too! It shocked me last week b/c I tend to wander around the house, um, au natural after I shower and I was leaning over the bathroom counter doing my eyebrows when I realized my arm felt damp, like something was dripping down it. Sure enough, it had been resting just below my nipple and said nipple was leaking. I had to tell hubby right then, he got such a kick out of it. TMI but more liquid comes out (just a couple drops at most) when I squeeze 'em. One of my and hubby's favorite movie lines is from Meet the Parents, and he said to me "I have nipples, can you milk me?" :eek:
Popped~I've popped for sure within the last 2 weeks. I now look obviously pregnant to strangers rather than just full-bellied as if I ate too much at my last meal. :)
Names~ Still scouring name lists, now that we know what we're having. I have 2 favorites but am compiling a list of ~10 or so names so that hubby feels like he gets to help choose too. Also brought the Hawaiian Baby Names book SIL lent me to work today so I could scour the potential middle names for this guy. :D

Leaking: Okay, this is how big of a dork i am... After reading all the info about nipples leaking and not noticing anything then reading what Rancid13 wrote about squeezing I gave mine a squeeze test and sure enough... they leak! :p I told you i was a dork.
I haven't had any urine leaks in weeks. When i had ms and would throw up i leaked almost everytime. The same goes for sneezing during that time period. I must have better control of those muscles now that i'm not stressing them by throwing up 3 times a day since it hasn't happened in a while. We'll see what happens though... i fully expect this to become an issue the further into pg i go.
Sick: Anyone else seem to be picking up what everyone else has? and even some things you have no idea where they came from? I picked up a sore throat somewhere along the way and i have no idea who to murder for giving it to me! lol. It's only on the right side of my throat and i don't have any other symptoms. No headaches, ear aches, cough, nasal stuffiness or runniness (if that's a word). It only hurts when i swallow, sneeze, or yawn. When not doing those things i can't even tell it hurts. It sucks. I seem to have picked up what everyone else has along the way too. I've already had a wretched cold! It probably doesn't help that i work in an office building that also houses a doctors office!
Update: Nothing new to report which is a good thing! ('cept a sore throat) Our little tamale is bouncing around all over the place and dh can definitely feel him from the outside now. Last night dh said 'i think he's trying to get out' :) He was kicking really really hard last night. Harder than ever before! I wish i could tell everyone the name we picked out. I'm dying to scream it from the rooftops! I have half a mind to pm everyone (rest assured, i wont). I was looking at birth announcements online and previewed some with his name all spelled out and I got so excited about our choice!
My 24 week appointment is today. For a change i'm not nervous about hearing a hb or some other made up scenario i've put into my head in the past. Since i can feel him moving around i assume he is doing just fine. Here's hoping anyway. The only questions i have for the ob are about heartburn. It's the only thing that makes me absolutely miserable. They told me i could take pepcid ac but it barely touches it and i still feel like my esophogus is on fire all day long. I'm hoping there's something else i can take to try to combat it. It could be the sole contributor to the sore throat and possibly gas. If i can get these under control we'll be in great shape. Something tells me the gas and the sore throat are both after effects of the bigger problem, acid indigestion. Here's hoping for an uneventful visit!
neenbean[/B]- glad to hear you enjoyed your trip home. Were you still here when we had the tragic tunnel collapse?
Make sure to update us after the big U/S!
Leaking-no boob leakage but I do need pantyliners.
Pooped- yup, I've gotten a couple comments from starnger this week.
We're finally getting a digital camera so hopefully I'll have some pictures to post next week.
We are back from our trip to CA and it was great! It was so much fun to share the big news with all of our friends out there and just relax for a few days. I indulged and got my first pregnancy massage and it was heaven. I plan on getting a few more as I got more and more achey.
I had my 20 week appt. a few days ago and it went great. Everything from our 20 week u/s looked good and the baby's heartbeat is strong. I am feeling the kicks more and more these days but most of them are pretty subtle. Once in a while he'll give me a good kick but I've only felt him once or twice from the outside. It's still exciting nonetheless!
Question: Am I the only one here who hasn't started their registry? I was thinking about starting it in early August. We won't have my baby shower until early October so I feel like I have plenty of time. Of course I'm already buying things here and there that I don't expect people to buy for us like a cute car seat cover, the jogger stroller, and a few cute outfits that are totally unecessary but just too adorable to pass up.
Here are a few outfits that I got recently:
http://angelicgenius.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000002/DRAGON_G_thumb.jpg
and the matching pants:

and this adorable onesie:

------------------------------------------------------
Congrats to everyone else who has found out the gender!
Leaking: I definitely use pantyliners these days, which is oh so lovely but better than ruining a lot of panties. I don't have any nipple leakage but I do have some 'stuff' on my nipples that looks like dried up leakage. I keep forgetting to ask the doctor about this but it doesn't bother me.
Sick: Yup. I had a horrible cold a few weeks ago that took forever to get rid of. My co-worker had it first and then of course I got it. It started as a sore throat and then just got progressively worse (sorry Ellidew!). I finally got the okay to take Claritin, which really helped with the congestion. Ugh. Not fun.
Popped: I am definitely looking pregnant these days and strangers now ask me when I'm due, etc. I don't really mind since noone has tried to touch my belly. :D After I eat, I look at least 6 months pregnant too and feel like it! My stomach feels so stretched after I eat a big meal and it's so uncomfortable.
Rancid: I'm so sorry you're going through this and I hope everything turns out okay. Waiting is always the hardest part.

lilo~ We haven't started our registry yet either. My goal was to at least start it sometime this month, as our shower will be held sometime in September. Perhaps we'll start this weekend, as the only day both hubby and I have off together is Sunday. There's just so much stuff, it's tough narrowing down choices and making decisions. :)

So behind again...
Rancid ~ Sending positive thoughts your way.
ellidew ~ If you start to feel worse, you might want to go see your doc. I picked up a sore throat too that I'll write more about below (long story!). I had a sore throat like you described and it's strep!
Sick ~ My DD woke up yesterday morning saying "neck hurt" and crying. From 6:20am to 9:20am she kept her head on my shoulder, wouldn't eat or drink, and cried in excrutiating pain everytime I tried to move her. I had a sore throat since Thurs. afternoon so I wasn't sure if her neck hurt physically, or if it was internal to her throat. Of course DH was out of town and I didn't know what to do so I took her to the E/R. I was so afraid it'd be meningitis. We were there for 5.5 freakin' hours and they decided she had torticollis (sp?), a neck muscle spasm, that she could have gotten from horsing around at home or from Gymboree. Then the Pediatric E/R doc came in b/c I had mentioned I had a sore throat. She took one look in DD's throat and said she thought she had strep. They did a rapid culture and it came back positive for bacterial strep. The E/R doc prescribed an antibiotic for me too b/c he said that if I had a sore throat, chances were we both had strep (DH has had one, too). So I'm on antibiotics which I hate to do being PG. I called my OB to double check and make sure what they prescribed was safe. Apparently there are a lot of viral and bacterial throat infections going around.
lilo ~ Love the sleep thief outfit! :) Very appropriate!

sick- I have been lucky so far and haven't picked up anything. My DH has been sick around me and I just knew I was going to get it, but I never did. There are plenty of people at my office that like to come in to work sick, so I disinfect my desk and wash my hands all the time.
stroller- We bought a stroller last weekend. We got the Peg Perego P3 in Anice (the blue color). I love the look of it and hope I will like using it even more. I haven't bought a carseat yet, but plan on getting the Graco Snugride.
Paint- We got some paint samples today to put on the wall to help us pick a color. We ended up going with the color we liked best on the paper samples :rolleyes:. I will have to take a picture and post it. We got a color called Harbor Aqua from the Seaside Retreat collection at Lowes. We are doing an ocean theme in the room and this paint goes well with the PBK Ocean Critters line.
kicking- If he moves as much out in the world as he does in utero, we are in trouble! This kid is all over the place. I swear some days I think he has a jungle gym in there. I can feel him from the outside and DH has felt him kicking as well. This is going to sound terrible, but some days I just want him to go to sleep - all the movement can get a little annoying.
Question about maternity tops- Where can I find some maternity tops that are built for large chested ladies? I have looked at Target, GAP, Old Navy, Motherhood, Mimi, and A Pea In The Pod. Nothing! They are all really low cut, have tiny straps so my bra would stick out, or are empire waisted and my boobs won't fit in the cup area. Anyone having any luck in this area? (If it helps to know this, I am a 38F)

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I'm the same size, RubberSoul. I have been buying the deep V necks and stuffing my boobs above the empire line and wearing a tank top underneath. Another thing I have foud extremely helpful, although not very fashion forward, is the maternity t's from Old Navy. I have a bunch but they cover my tummy and accommodate my boobs.

sare- I also like the Old Navy t's... they're comfy!!
catgirl- Ugh. Sorry to hear about the throat issues for you and DD. I hope the meds help it go away soon.
We have friends who had a baby girl last Saturday... even though the girls are not the majority on this thread, all of my friends/family are having them! DH's sister found out they're also having a girl and another girlfriend of mine is due in Sept with a girl. :eek:
Anyhow... for the baby girl born last Saturday I found this onesie at a site called babyonthebrain.com. The website shows this as a sample - apparently Jenifer Garner and Ben Affleck got one for their daughter. Obviously, I had it personalized with my friend's maiden name and her husbands last name. I may have to get one for us too!
http://www.babyonthebrain.com/PRODUCTS/175.l.jpg
I had my 24 week checkup this morning. Nothing too exciting. I've gained a total of 15lbs!!! :eek: I was hoping that would be my total for the whole 40 weeks, but I don't think that's happening.
Next appt. August 11th. This is the lovely Glucose Drink appointment. Yuck.
DH bought DS a pack of HotWheels cars and a track today at Target. They're on the floor playing with them now...I don't know who's more excited, DH or DS!!! They're too cute. :)

neenbean- glad to hear you enjoyed your trip home. Were you still here when we had the tragic tunnel collapse?
Yes, I am so sad for that woman and her family! Her poor husband having to witness that!!! Such a tragedy.
QUESTION~ Anyone having sharp pains in their breasts?????? Seriously, my right breast (not left at all) is killing me! I have my OB appointment tomorrow, but am tempted to call today to ask if this is something I should be concerned about. It has been happening for at least 24 hours, possibly longer, but I can't remember. It hurts a lot... I do not remember this happening AT ALL while pregnant with DD. I think I may even post a thread in Pregnancy to see if others know what might cause this...

Pain in breasts ~ neenbean, I didn't have this with my DD either, but this time around I have. It's been off and on and has happened maybe 3-5 times. It started happening around 20 weeks; I'm 23 weeks now. I think it might be colostrum and maybe we feel it more b/c we've been PG before?? :confused: I had one episode of it that hurt really bad and it lasted for hours (don't remember how long exactly). I thought I had a plugged duct (left breast only), but then chalked it up to heartburn, but maybe it was colostrum coming in. Let me know what your OB says.

neenbean- I have had sharp shooting pains in my breasts for a few years off and on (the pain comes and goes it isn't constant). I asked my Dr. about it at my annual physical one year and she said it is from the weight of my breasts/lack of bra support. I don't know if this is the kind of pain you are talking about, but it could be from your boobs getting bigger and the added weight. My Dr. said to make sure to wear a very supportive bra to support the ligaments (i think its ligaments). For the most part I have found that to help, but not always. I also have this problem in one breast at a time. Maybe this isn't the same thing you have going on, so I would ask your OB about it just to make sure :). I hope the pain goes away - I know how annoying it can be.

catgirl1007~ Colostrum seems very reasonable to me! My breast have been semi-leaking for weeks. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this, too! It is still hurting, but I think I can wait another 24 hours until my appointment. I am at 20 weeks now, so it makes sense that we go through it at the same time... Sorry.
RubberSoul~ that makes a lot of sense! I know my BBs are getting bigger, but I am wearing a pretty good bra and did yesterday as well... However, I know I have not yet gone up a cup size, they feel fuller, KWIM~ hmmm??? I did not have this discomfort with DD, but I guess every pregnancy is so different.

pain in breasts-I've had some sharp pains over the weekend and this morning my left nippple felt like it was on fire! This is my first preg, so I'm not sure if it would be colostrum.
nursery-We painted the nursery yesterday! There's still a little bit of trim left, then we have to put the crib together. It's so exciting to see it all come together!
registry-we registered a couple of weeks ago because one of my showers is in August. The nice thing about Target's website is they have user reviews (we picked out a monitor that looks great in the store, but then I read the review and supposedly it's horrible, so we switched)
Glucose test-I have my 2nd one tomorrow. I have to have a total of 3 due to my infertility condition (which makes me more likely to have GD). The drink they gave me tastes like orange soda, it's not bad at all!

Fly by post...
My next appointment is on August 11th. It will be a repeat of my big u/s since the last one wasn't perfectly clear.
My 24 week checkup went great. Nothing really new. I've gained more weight than i wish to disclose but the doctor didn't seem too concerned. She said i'm on track to gain 50 lbs and that a lot of people gain 50 lbs! I love my doctor especially since a co workers wife that is already super thin has only gained 15 and her doctor said that's too many. Her due date is only 10 days after mine!
I have to go in for the Glucose test within the next 2 weeks. I'm probably going to do it on Friday. I just walk into a lab to have it done and i don't need an appointment. Glad to hear it's not too terrible. Here's hoping i pass!
Well, where ever you are i hope it's cooler than it is here! We're going to be over a hundred again today! Stay cool!

I am pretty sure I have started feeling the baby move or kick, which is pretty cool. I finally feel pregnant.
Lydia made me (and some of our other nursing friends) a really cute handmade nursing cover up. The fabric is a really cool pattern. I will have to learn how to use it!
Reflux – I just had this last night! It was horrible. I would wake up with a stomach acid taste in my mouth. Nasty! Does it indicate a big baby???
My next doctor appointment is tomorrow – July 18th
~~~~~~~~~~~
Question #1: Have any of you thought about holiday shopping? I always do this early anyway but I imagine it may be hard to do this year with a new baby. Ah, maybe it will be easier because of late night breast feeding sessions with the internet and a credit card.
Question #2: This may be awful to ask but do any of you panic that you made the wrong choice? I had my first wave of real panic last night and I hear this is very normal. It does not make it any less scary though!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Bijouparvin – I really do like that brown diaper bag too. I am going to have to check it out
Rubbersoul - I love Red Envelope. Are you going to buy the diaper bag and light? All those things you feel overwhelmed about getting, will you get some of that during your shower so you do not have to worry about it?
Sinclair – cool bag. I am with you regarding yard sales. I plan on hitting some a bit later. Some of the stuff is barely used at all and also comes from a clean home. I remember a couple of years back, I went to a yard sale and there was a whole table of adorable baby clothes, some brand new with tags. Thanks for the money mistakes link. I made a note of it.
Kadee – can you add our chosen baby name under my stats? Conner Aramis. Thanks :) Aren’t ultrasounds the coolest? The face and hand one is great!
Mimieliza – that is a great color green. I am going to have to remember that because it may match my bedding. You look like a pretty thin person so are you just growing real fast in relation to how small you are? I have a little bit of chub so my pregnancy has looked like I have gained, instead of being pregnant. Perhaps that is not the case for you. Nice flat stomachs show pregnancy quite easily ;) Now is the time that we are all going to see major changes in our growth within a couple of weeks, I think.
Rancid – love the hang ten. My man is a surfer too. I predict our child will be as soon as he is able. Sorry to hear about all your worry. Is there an update?
Acrane – hahahaaha, that is a great money shot!
Congrats on your boy, civets! I have no idea how you are not going to let it slip to your husband.
Congrats on your girl, brio! That is pretty funny you mention weddings. Yes, we both know, from our obsessive WC days, how involved a wedding can be. How did you daughter’s MRI go?
Lizziebeth – congrats on your girl!
Neenbean – what did you do while in Mass? I went to a cookout Saturday and there were pregnant women there that I did not know. Wouldn’t it be funny if….
Ausi – I do not think it is too early to feel the baby’s hiccups.
Ellidew – do not feel like a dork. I feel like going into the bathroom and doing the same thing :)
Lilo – I did my registry weeks ago but I have a few of reasons for that: 1) I had it on my to-do list and I wanted to cross something off, 2) we are selling and buying a house and have been super busy. I wanted to get the registry done so it would not be last minute, and 3) there was actually a Saturday with nothing planned so we grabbed the opportunity :D Those outfits are so cute.
Katnbug – that website is great!

Whew, lots to catch up with! :)
sick~None here; I think I have a pretty good immune system (knock on wood) because I very rarely ever get sick, whether it be the common cold or flu or what have you. I get allergies every now and again, but it's nothing that Clartin can't help.
kicking~I'm still not feeling anyting, I don't think! Every now and again I'll think I feel something like a flutter or bubble or whathaveyou, but it's so brief and infrequent that I can never be sure if it's baby or my digestive system. :o
breast pains~I've gotten a few sharp, stabbing breast pains over the last couple weeks. They're (thankfully!) very brief but sudden, and don't last long. Just long enough for me to claw at my breast shouting about my boob feeling it's being stabbed, then it's gone.
glucose test~Ugh, not looking forward to that one. My thoughts are with those of you who have upcoming glucose tests. Luckily GD does not run in my family so hopefully I'll pass with flying colors. SIL had GD with her DS 2 years ago and it sounded like the most awful thing ever b/c sugar (in all its forms) is my best friend~baby was 9.5 lbs when he was born.
holiday shopping~I've been thinking about this ever since I found out my EDD. It seems like big things always are happening for us these last few years in Nov-Dec-Jan (getting married, buying a house, now having a baby!) so it's made holiday shopping tough to begin with, especially with money and time at a minimum. I'm sure we'll do some light holiday shopping and hopefully all our friends and family will understand... :)
panic~OH YES. I definitely get panicked sometimes thinking, what have we done??!! We're going to be responsible for another human being who will rely entirely on us for food, care, etc, by the end of the year. What have we gotten ourselves into?! Is there a rewind button in case I change my mind?? I know in my heart that we'll be ok, I mean millions (billions?) of people have had kids since the beginning of time, but I think it's completely normal to have freak-outs about it, especially considering the responsibility of it all.
Still no updates as to the results of my blood test (AFP) from last Thursday. Hubby swears up and down that the dr's office told him that I would be called Tuesday, which is tomorrow, to get my in-depth u/s scheduled. I have a feeling I'm not going to find out the results from my blood test until this Friday, which is my next ob appt (and coincidentally, my 28th bday). :)
I may also be updating to change my due date; hubby said he was told that based on our original u/s results, it's either Dec 3 or 4 now. I'll verify the exact date this week. Does that mean I'm out of the Nov 2006 Mommies thread?? :( (I've been bouncing between the Nov and Dec 06 threads, just in case~b/c I had a feeling it would be early Dec for me~these last couple months.)

Hi girls!
Today I had THE U/S. The baby is ok and fatty ;), seems a week bigger (I'm at 21+5)
I also have a low left placenta so I hope it won't become a placenta previa. If I'll see blood I'll have to run to the hospital. Now I'll go two weeks to the sea to have some rest and then I'll have my next u/s on the 7th of August.

mermccau- I am definately getting the light from Red Envelope and I am on the fence about the diaper bag. I was looking at the Skip Hop Diaper bags and they look really cute, plus they have camo patterns for DH! I have a feeling I will be ordering the Skip Hop Dash. I am now coming to realize why people have baby showers - you have too much stuff to buy if you don't! My friends haven't said anything recently about the shower that was talked about months ago. However, both of them have been very busy and we haven't had much time together recently. I hope to find out if they are going to throw one in the next week or two. YAY for feeling the baby kicking!
holiday shopping- I was just thinking about this! I am a procrastinator when it comes to holiday shopping, but I am going to have to be on the ball this year. As of right now I plan to get it done early so I don't have to worry about it after the baby is born. The other issue is I have no clue how much money we will have for christmas presents. I guess I should make a budget now and stick with it.
panic- ummm yeah. I freak out plenty. I went to visit a friend who just had a baby girl [5pounds, 10 ounces] and all I could think was - I am going to have to take care of one of these soon. She was so little I couldn't believe it.
ellidew- I wish it were cool here. We are in the 90's/100's too. It makes me want to sit in the AC and be lazy!
Sinclair- Good to know that the glucola drink isn't that bad. I have been dreading it. Thanks for the money link. I am happy to see that DH and I are well on our way to crossing a lot of those things off our list. I find it strange that those things aren't in any pregnancy books (at least the ones I have). I had a conversation with my Dad and he brought up the life insurance, creating a will, etc. I hadn't thought of any of those things until he mentioned them to me. Seems like this stuff is way more important than what kind of stroller to get, kwim?
Rancid- Don't leave us! Ya never know when the baby is going to be born - even if your due date is changed you could still have a Nov. baby ;). I could be wrong about this, but when I had the AFP I think it took about 5 days for the results to come back. My OB's office called me as soon as they saw I had an abnormal result (otherwise it would have been 7-10 days before I knew anything). I am in the camp that no news is good news. Were they going to call you as soon as the results came in even if they were considered normal?

Ok, ok I'll stay! ;) DH was the one who succeeded in getting ahold of someone at the dr's office on that day, and he said he couldn't remember what they said about getting the results. I'm just assuming it's similar to the first blood draw I had (the big one) where the ob disclosed the results (all good!) at the time of my next appt rather than call me a week or so after the draw.

I have had one stressful day.
I had my normal ob appt and everything looked great but I mentioned that his kicks weren't as strong as they had been so I was sent to L&D. After 2 1/2 hours on a monitor and another u/s (still a boy ;) ) I was sent home. He looks great and moved a lot while I was there but his positioning is making it so I can't feel everything. His head is on my right side and his body is laying horizontal with him facing the floor. So his kicks aren't going to a place where I can feel them.
It's been a long day. I will try to get to updates tomorrow.

mermccau~ if it was THIS Saturday, then it wasn't me... However, if it was the previous, it could have been! However, the only confirmed other pregnant lady at the BBQ I attended was from MI and she is still smoking and drinking beer. :eek: I know you would have wine, if anything, so it was definitely NOT you. ;) It would have been super cool to meet you in person, though! I was supposed to get together with another CCer that you probably know, but my schedule was CRAZY!
holiday shopping~ I am notoriously known for procrastinationg about EVERYTHING and know I am not going to do much shopping this year. DH does not expect a thing, my ILs do, however :rolleyes:, so they will just get a framed pic of le babe and another of the family together- as I am certain this will be the gift sent to everyone- my parents, sister, BIL, etc. Over the past couple years, holiday gift giving has really toned down a lot and I am all for it. Plus, we are buying a new car next month and with the 2nd baby on the way, we can't afford what we would prefer to give to everyone.
panic~ I think it continues until you die! As a parent, I still wonder if I am doing things right, now I stress about having 2... My mom still worries about my sis and I (she is 29, I am 31), so I think as a mother, you will panic and stress forever- get used to it! ;)
Glucose Test has not even been uttered by my OB. However, I am sure she will send me for one at my next appointment. Oh what fun. :p I prefer the cola or orange flavors myself. The Sprite flavored one makes me gag. Ugh.
Rancid~ I am having concerns about our baby's measurements and EDD as well, just know that by your LMP, your EDD is 11/30- STILL NOVEMBER! We would miss you too much! Take care and good luck with the results.
kadee_29~ I am glad to hear all is well with the baby! So stressful! At least you know what to expect now as far as feeling activity.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, we had our BIG u/s today... DH is at a conference, so my friend came to video tape the event. I am glad she came.
I told my OB about the pains in my left breast. She did not feel any lumps, but may send me for an u/s to look at it (if the pains continue) because you cannot get a mamogram while pregnant. She also mentioned that I may be a candidate for a VBAC after reading about my c-s and the surgical notes. We are going to wait a few months before making that decision, it is my decision until she changes her mind again.
So, I guess everyone is wondering the gender of our baby...
We are having........
a BOY
OR
a GIRL!!!!!!!
It is *still* a surprise, despite the fact that we really wanted to know- including my DOCTOR. She wanted to know, too!!!!!!!
Baby was in a terrible position and my OB could not get a good view of ANYTHING! Well, we got the spine, face and one femur, but that is it. The baby was folded in half, with one hand over the face at times. So frustrating! DD was also in a bad position last time and we were not able to find out the gender either. Ugh.
However, because my OB could not see everything, we have another U/S and my next appointment scheduled for 8/17. Wish us better luck next time.
Wshing you luck!! Make sure you have something sugary before your next u/s appt to wake him/her up~I had a Dr Pepper and some fruit, and jumped around a little bit to 'shake things up' and get the baby moving so we could get him into a position where we could make out the gender. :D
Hahahaha!! I went whole hog and ate half a box of Milk Duds to get her moving. Drawback was, she was SO active, it was sometimes hard to get the shots they wanted. Maybe I overdid it a little. :o
LOL!! :p Our little guy was sure bouncing around in there all right. It wasn't until near the very end of the u/s that we were able to zero in on the private parts once he moved into just the right position and stayed that way for a whole 5 seconds.
So, I've halfway switched over to a CNM now. I made an appointment with a midwife for the same day that I had scheduled my next OB appt: August 4th. I also toured the new hospital yesterday. It's certainly not as fancy as the "strap-you-down" one I was initially set to deliver at, but it felt more personal, and I got to see the birthing pool up close and personal, so I'm comforted. Now I'm just waiting for the materials from the midwife to come in the mail so I can complete a form for my records to be forwarded. I also need to call my insurance company and double-check that they will actually cover my visits with a midwife. RO's: Any experience with midwives/insurance?
Nothing much new to report. Little girl is moving very regularly, so I never have time to worry about her. I'm getting bigger by the hour. At my last appointment two weeks ago, I had gained about 15 pounds from my "normal weight" but 10 pounds from my weight at my first appointment (8 weeks). My undies are getting pretty uncomfortable so I think I'll have to invest in some maternity thongs, much as it seems like a big scam.
neenbean - What a bummer about not being able to find out the gender!! Hopefully next time will be the charm!
kadee - Sorry about your stressful appointment. At least it's a comfort that it's just his position and not any complication.
rancid - November 30th is my birthday, so I'm voting that you end up having your son on that day anyway. Even if you had him on December 30th, you'd still be one of us - we've come this far! ;) BTW, I noticed you're in Los Alamitos. I lived in LB for three years and my best friend grew up in Rossmoor and currently lives in Los Al. I miss it SO much!
scarlett - Glad to hear baby is well and chubby! Lucky you to have so many ultrasounds!
LOL, I guess baby will get here whenever he so chooses, whether it be November or December. Guess we'll have to wait it out and see, eh? :)
We've lived in Los Al for 1.5 years now; I grew up in nearby Westminster and Fountain Valley, DH is from El Segundo (right next to LAX airport). We lived in El Segundo for the 1.5 years prior to buying our current condo, and I was SO HAPPY to be out of there as my commute was 35+ miles to Huntington Beach every day. We're really hoping to move to the HB/Fountain Valley area in early 2007, depending on how things go. :cool:
Rancid~ I drank a pepsi right before the appointment with my lunch hoping to get baby moving, but no such luck. Normally that works! I did not feel the baby move AT ALL yesterday until 5PM (3 hours after my appt started). :( Next time, I am only having sugar, no real food. :p I need to sort through all of DD's clothing either way, but would prefer to know the gender first. A good friend from college is from El Segundo, when did your DH graduate from HS? My friend was class of 93.
bijouparvin~ Normally any sugar gets this baby bouncing, but my Pepsi with lunch was not enough this time. :( So hoping our next u/s gets us the results the doc needs and we want. :D Good luck with your switch to a CNM. I only had OBs and Family Practice doctors, so I can't offer any opinions. However, I think most insurances cover CNM, especially if they share a practice with OBs.
Same here. Which is why we have another BIG U/S in 3.5 weeks! 95% sure it's a boy. I'll be so disappointed if it isn't since i've been making plans for a boy. First boy born in my family since my dad was born in 1947! He and my mom had 3 daughters and so far my sisters have only produced daughters! Plus, i have a closet full of boy clothes now ;)
undies-I just went to Walmart and bought a bigger size and they're awesome! They're regular undies, but very pretty and lacy (and COMFY!) I think they were $3 each, can't beat it!
So jealous of all of you who get a 2nd u/s! I'm going to beg my OB, but I doubt she'll let us have another.
bijouparvin I am not a RO, but I thought I’d share my experiences with midwives and insurance. You are in NY right? I had a midwife for my regular GYN care when I lived in NY and she was covered by my insurance (MVP). When I moved, I just looked for a covered CNM on my insurance company's website. I have never had a problem with insurance coverage or billing for a certified midwife.
neenbean bummer that you could find out the gender, but at least she/he is healthy. Hope your next US goes well!
kadee sorry to hear you had such a stressful day! I am happy to hear things are okay and he is just in a weird position. Wonder if he will be a stomach sleeper when he gets older?
sinclair I have been thinking about switching to larger sized undies. The current undies are just getting too low!
DH and I had a weekend home together finally (first in almost 2 months) and started researching, hunting and registering for baby stuff. We had a lot of fun together and DH was surprisingly excited to look at baby stuff. He bought himself a baby bjorn at consignment shop and was so pleased with himself. We debated endlessly about a bedding set and finally selected one that was not originally one of our top picks. This was after I explained to DH that the crib would go on the rocker or hang on the wall, not actually in the crib on the baby. Apparently that was news t him and made a big difference. Jungle Jamboree by Lambs & Ivy
We also decided to drive home Labor Day weekend for baby showers. We are having two family showers, one at FIL’s house and one at my mom’s condo clubhouse. We have very big families and needed to split it up. I am making the invites and need to get moving on registering!
holiday shopping We already do most of or holiday shopping online, so I am sure we will just do it earlier this year and ship it to our families. We have agreed and told our families that we will not be coming home for the holidays this year. We live 12 hours away driving time from our family. I don’t want to drive 12 hours or fly 3-4 hours with an infant and I really don’t want to expose him to all those people and germs during prime flu and cold season when he is only about 4 weeks old.
Undies ~ Funny you should mention that, Sinclair319. I just started wearing the maternity underwear I bought when I was PG with DD. They're Old Navy briefs, but aren't like huge granny panties. You're right, even going up one size makes it much more comfortable, esp on the hips!
roberta/holidays ~ I think it's smart that you have told your families about your plans for the holidays. Our DD was born in 10/03 and we skipped Thanksgiving that year, but told everyone if they wanted to come to our house on Christmas, they were welcome but that we wouldn't be doing any traveling. This year we're going to skip family gatherings altogether. It's so hectic and crazy after a baby is born, the last thing we want to worry about it holiday get togethers. I also like your idea of shopping online - I love doing that!
Swollen hands ~ For those of you who have swollen hands, what have you done to decrease the swelling? Mine are so swollen today that I can barely see my knuckles when I make a fist and they hurt a little bit. I'm drinking a TON more water b/c I'm getting over strep throat and my throat is still scratchy. I'm just a little worried b/c this was about the time that I was diagnosed with mild pre-eclampsia with my DD... and put on modified bed rest. Can't do that with a toddler!
I'm of the camp that believes sugar is good!! In all its forms. :) DH was class of 94...El Segundo is such a small town anyways, that everyone that lives there knows everyone else. They probably know each other, or at least have heard of each other no doubt.
roberta~I've got my eye on that particular jungle-theme set too! DH and I saw it at Burlington Coat Factory last weekend and really liked it~I posted a picture of it (along with 3 others we liked) in the Dec 06 Mommies thread just yesterday. Great minds think alike. ;)
undies~Still wearing my regulars here. During the day I wear thongs from VS~they're made from a very soft, silky material with cotton, um, crotch. I don't know how else to say that word. They sit low, so they're below 'the belly', and they still fit quite well. At night I wear my usual Jockey cotton bikini briefs which are also somewhat low-rise, but I've noticed that when I sit down, the top starts to roll over just a little bit. Not bothersome, but it makes me realize that my belly really is growing!
Went to the doctor yesterday for my check up and all seems good. My blood pressure is low. My weight is up to 151 which freaked me out a bit but I have to remember that I am pregnant overall and that gaining 12 lbs by the 6th month is not that bad.
I have my glucose test at my next appointment – August 24th
Rancid – I feel the same way as you. I do not know if those “pops” in my belly are baby or digestion. I am starting to feel them more frequently so I am going to say they are baby and go with that :) I think you are so right about it being normal to freak out every once in a while. It means that a person is aware of what lies ahead. Happy birthday and good luck with the test results. I hope you do not go anywhere (in regards to changing threads).
Scarlett – I could be wrong but I do not think a low lying placenta can become previa. I think the placenta does nothing but move upward, not downward. Again, I could be way off but you may have nothing to worry about :)
Rubbersoul – that lamp is so cute and Red Envelope rocks. You are so right about there being so much stuff needed. Thank goodness for showers.
Kadee – how are you going today? Better? What was stressing you out?
Neenbean – it was this past Saturday. That would have been too funny. Okay, I am okay with a pregnant woman sipping a glass or wine or nursing a beer or something but smoking and drinking? Was she indulging all day or just have one drink and one smoke? Who is the CCer that you were supposed to meet?
Bijouparvin – I bought some panties at Motherhood Maternity pretty cheap. I think each pair was $2-3 each. They were having a sale.
Roberta – cute set. Man, they have everything right down to a printed little chair! :D
ellidew~ crossing my fingers for you that your baby is a boy! After having purchased clothing for him, it would upset me to not have the "right" gender to wear the clothes. ;) Good luck! Our next u/s is 8/17.
Sinclair~ careful what you wish for. Last time, I wanted to get a second u/s and ended up NEEDING them weekly during my last month because of problems. It was cool to see DD, but kind of scary dealing with the issues.
Roberta~ we *hope* the baby is healthy. Our OB could not see a LOT of the things she needs to confirm health, so that is the only reason we get another u/s. Though, I am excited to see the baby again! :D
catgirl1007~ I had the same troubles last time (pre-e, etc.) but am already experiencing slightly elivated BP and swelling. My doc assures me it is normal (especially with the weather), so try not to worry too much. Definitely avoid salt, keep hydrated, put your feet up any chance you get and let your DH do as much around the house as he can stand. ;)
Rancid13~ our baby gets daily workouts whenever I have sugar or caffeine; it is kind of funny. ;) Small world! I bet he knows my friend- we aren't in touch (since college), but I will always remember his hometown. Loved the name.
mermccau~ Apparently (according to my friend/her cousin) she smokes regularly- and did with her other 2 pregnancies! She drinks occasionally, but has more than I would ever think most NURSING moms drink- like 3 or 4 at an event. Her 2 daughters are healthy and average size, so I guess she finds no reason to change her habits. From the little I saw of her, she would not stop even if someone told her to (ie. her doc or DH). ;) I was supposed to meet up with brady/Lisa. Our kids our the same age and had fun together when we met up during my last visit back to MA. I miss being in MA full-time!!!! Someday we will move back- possibly not for 15 years, but it will happen eventually.
Rancid13 - Glad you're going to stay!
mermccau - I went to the dr. yesterday as well, and also have gained about the same. I agree it's weird to see the scale climb, but all for a good cause! I just hope it comes off as easily... one can hope, right? :)
swollen hands - My hands are definitely swollen, proof being I haven't worn my rings for weeks. I didn't think to do anything to try and stop the swelling, since I drink a ton of water already, and don't think my salt intake is too bad. Bad news... my feet are swelling, and my shoes are starting to get really snug and uncomfortable. I've been envying people wearing birks and crocs lately... two pairs of shoes I would never buy normally, but are looking really good right about now!
roberta - cute bedding set! Must be nice to have that decided already. I'm considering all of my options and am not finding it to be an easy decision.
bijouparvin - That's great you're almost switched over and in a plan that will make you most comfortable when you give birth. That's the most important part, not the bells and whistles of the "strap you down" place!
neenbean - Sorry you weren't able to find out the gender. Tricky baby! I hope you get a good shot at your next u/s!
============
Not much is new with me, except for that fact that I feel like I'm constantly expanding... I without a doubt look pregnant now, and people have been really nice about holding doors for me. I'm feeling kind of frumpish at work lately so I need to invest in some work appropriate maternity clothes. Just this week I've noticed that most of my normal shirts are just too short now to even try to wear in public!
bijouparvin - I'm sure it depends on your insurance, but our hospital CNM is covered the same as any in-network doctor. Our homebirth CNM is covered as an out-of-network provider, but since her fees are so much less she will end up costing less than a hospital birth.
panties - I think I need to give in and get some larger bikini style underwear. There's no escaping the fact that I need to wear a pantyliner, and my current collection of all stretchy thong underwear is getting too small.
update - Got back from an amazing lake cabin vacation last week. I know there were some other ladies curious about going on boats during pregnancy. I'd have to say that it wasn't a problem for me as long as we went out when the water was really calm. On the one longer ride we took where the water turned rough before we got back I felt like I needed to hold my belly with the my hands for extra support. My ligaments were a tiny bit sore after that ride, but I was fine the next day and back out on the boat.
Also, it was a 16 hour drive each way to get there. At this point I was still really comfortable sitting for long periods of time. We just had to stop every 2-3 hours to stretch my legs and let me & the dogs go pee.
Update:
No we don't have the results of the blood test yet, my husband called the doctor's office yesterday and actually was able to get ahold of someone on the first try. Told them I had my blood drawn at XX lab last Thursday for the AFP and wanted to find out if the results were in. They checked, and apparently there's no record that I ever went in to have blood drawn, although I did fill out a form at the lab and also gave them the pre-filled form from my doctor's office when I arrived as well as my insurance card. :mad: :mad: :mad: Hopefully they'll get their information correct by the time I go in tomorrow morning for my ob appt, otherwise I'm definitely going to bitch about it.
I have my level II u/s scheduled for next Wednesday July 26 at 2:30pm.
Hopefully we'll learn more of what's going on with this little guy, and hopefully it'll be good news. :)
neenbean- sorry that you couldn't find out the gender. I hope that baby is more cooperative at the next u/s and the doctor gets a good look at everything!
kadee- I am happy to hear that your little man is okay in there.
bijouparvin- does your insurance carrier have a website? My insurance has a provider list online and you can search for a provider to find out if they are in the network. Seems like most insurance companies are progressive enough now that a CNM is just as accepted as an OB. The other thing to consider is if the new hospital you are going to is in your insurance network. I am not sure what kind of coverage you have so network issues may not even apply. I am a benefits administrator for my company - so these are the things that pop into my head if an employee were to ask me about this sort of thing. Feel free to ignore me ;).
ellidew- I hope you get a definitive answer at your next u/s! I finally bought some sleepers last weekend - I couldn't resist the baby clothes! I was shocked that a fleece sleeper was $18!!! Since you have bought some clothes already I hope you are in fact having a boy! Even if you find out it's a girl I am sure you can unload some of your boy clothes to all the boy mama's in this thread!
roberta- the bedding set is very cute!
swollen hands- my hands seems to be doing fine so far. I am still wearing my rings and haven't had any problems getting them on or off.
undies- I haven't had to buy any new ones yet, but probably will have to soon. I am finding that the elastic band on some of them is starting to cut into me and it is kinda painful.
QOTD- Is anyone else just feeling uncomfortable some days?
Some days I feel great and others it is like I can't get comfortable no matter what. It's like my organs feel smashed into my rib cage and I just can't take a deep breath cause there isn't any room for my lungs. I wonder if he just gets in a weird position some days and that is what causes it. It seems like it is way to early for me to hit the uncomfy stage - I am only 23w4d!
QOTD- Is anyone else just feeling uncomfortable some days?
Yes, I felt very uncomfortable yesterday afternoon and evening. Usually I feel great but every once in a while, I feel really pregnant.
I went for a walk with my husband last night. Since my digestive system is not working on schedule like it should, I felt bloated. Between being pregnant, having to pee during the walk, and the bloated feeling, the pressure in my lower belly was down right painful. I just could not get comfy last night no matter how hard I tried.
Isn’t it funny how some days, we may feel small or barely pregnant and energy is up and there are other days when we feel HUGE?
~~~~~
Neenbean – I do not think I know brady/Lisa but I probably know someone who does :)
That info about that smoking and drinking woman is interesting. If her other two children are healthy, then why would she change, I guess. I am wondering what caused her to partake in that behavior during her first pregnancy when there was unknown circumstances. It is funny because her behavior somewhat reinforces something I strongly believe. I think we are just too inundated with info that is pretty extreme. As much as I will not smoke during my pregnancy and will probably only consume a couple/few glasses of wine the whole time, women do and have indulged in things that are so taboo now and children are fine. I think the info out there about what a pregnant woman must and should not do is just too severe.
Mayhem – friends who are moms have told me that 20 lbs comes off quickly. I am holding onto that :D Not to sound all over protective or anything but how is your blood pressure and protein levels?
Rancid – oh my lord, that is so frustrating! I actually scoffed out loud when I read your post. That would drive me crazy.

mermccau - I can never remember the numbers, but the nurse will always comment when she takes my blood pressure that it is very good, which I assume means that it's low. No idea about protein levels... what would I be looking for with these numbers?

No idea about protein levels... what would I be looking for with these numbers? Protein is in the urine sample. I was just curious but since your blood pressure is good, then preeclampsia is probably not something to worry about. Lord, I sound like your mother! Sorry but I checked into it myself because my ankles were swelling so I wanted to share the tid bit of info I had :)

Uncomfortable Me, me!! Beyond having that "I'm huge" feeling (which isn't being helped by people telling me that I look like I'm due any day now) I have horrible sciatica that is making walking/sitting/sleeping sheer agony. I had this with DD but only in the last week of my pregnancy but then I didn't have to get up unless it was absolutely necessary. I asked my doctor about remedies and she mentioned something about physical therapy if it got too bad (which is where I think it's headed). The irony of that though is that I don't have TIME to get physical therapy because I'm too busy with DD. :rolleyes: I just don't know what to do.
Other than that though, we've been good. DD is a little ham these days and loves to make other people laugh whenever she can. As far as I can tell, she still isn't making the connection between the word "baby" and the baby we're having even though I mention it to her all the time.
meredith (or lydia) can you post a picture (or send me an email) of the nursing cover up? I definitely want to get something like that this time around since I don't envision having the luxury of just sitting nursing without running after DD. Thanks!

feeling uncomfortable~Oh yes! Some days I'm fine and others I have a difficult time staying comfortable. Like last night, we went to the OC Fair and I had a cinnamon roll, bbq chicken sandwich w/fries, soda, white chocolate covered strawberry, and fruit basket (berries, cherries, grapes) in the course of 2-2.5 hours. I felt SO FULL that standing, walking and sitting were all uncomfortable. We went to a concert at the adjacent ampitheatre (Teddy Geiger and Lifehouse) and I was still so uncomfortable that we made it thru maybe 5 of Lifehouse's songs before I asked if we could head home. My tummy was rockhard last night too, it felt so odd!
Quick Update:
DH heard back from the doctor's office a little while ago. They told him that the AFP screening samples are sent to a different lab than other blood tests, and they can take up to 3 weeks to process. They also told him that in this case, no news = good news as in, if there's something wrong, they'll call in right away but if they take the full 3 weeks before they call, the likelihood of something being wrong is far far less. And we're having our level II u/s next week to get a better look at things, so that will HOPEfully be very reassuring in the meantime. :)

Rancid- good to hear that they didn't goof up your blood work, I would have been so angry for you if you had to wait even longer! That sucks that it could take so long to get the results, but I hope that since you haven't heard anything so far that means everything looks good. The bright side of the level II is you get a great look at the baby! I hope they find that all is well when you have that done next week.

Nursery update!-We painted the nursery last weekend and I put the crib together last night (I love working on projects like that more than DH, so I was happy to do it!) I just checked and my bedding was delivered this morning--I can't wait to go home and see it! It's starting to all come together--and become more real now that there's lots of baby stuff in the house!
movement--I swear this kid did a flip on Tuesday--my whole stomach lurched (like it does when you're about to throw up). I used to feel his kicking on my lower left--now I feel it more in the middle and on my upper left side. I do love feeling him kick, what an awesome reminder of what my body is doing!
comfort--I've noticed that it seems like I have less room to breathe already, I didn't think it started this early! And since he moved I've been less comfortable, sitting for long periods of time isn't fun.

mermccau -- lol, no, you don't sound like my mother! Really, I appreciate your concern, thank you. I can tend to tune out these medical things even when I know I really should pay more attention. In past urine samples (years ago) I have had protein show up in my urine. But I've been giving a sample at every appointment so far and they haven't mentioned it... but I think I will ask just in case next time to be sure. Thank you!
Rancid13 -- that's good your blood didn't get lost in the shuffle. I'm crossing my fingers for you that everything is okay.
Sinclair319 -- You are on the ball! I can't wait to see pictures (if you plan on posting any). We ordered our crib 2.5 weeks ago and they quoted 10-14 weeks :( I wish I was at the point you are with the nursery right now!
Sinclair-wow, that's great progress on the room. Post some pictures for us!
Rancid - I really hope youget some answerd soon but it looks like no news is good news.
Mayham- Holy crap, 10-14 weeks for the crib to come in? We haven't ordered ours yet and now I'm freaking out that we're not going to have one until Chistmas! Do you mind if I ask which store you orderd from?
I can't get over the price of baby furniture. We've at least done some browsing and most of the models we like are in the $600 range and the dressers are no better.
Comfort- My back is strating to bother me at night. I sleep aout 4 hours and then my back is killing me no matter what I do.
We finally recieved our digial camera so I'm going to post some pictures soon.

Uncomfortable It depends. Some days I barely even feel PG, other days I feel huge. I took off my wedding rings the other day and replaced them with my Grandmother's (larger) wedding band. Since it's cooled off considerably, I think I might be able to put my regular ones on :)
Nursery We have a painted nursery :D We did a pretty sage green color. I still have to clean that closet out and have DH paint it. We're going to update the closet with an organizer type thing as well. We also bought our dresser/changer and crib last Saturday. I can't wait to get it!
Registering After furniture shopping last Saturday, we hit up BRU and started our registery. I can't believe we spent 2 hours there and we still have a lot to add!
Movement I think I have either a gymnast or a soccer player in there! I've even felt him/her from the outside. :D

glucose, I have to do the test on the 7th of August. I'm afraid it could nauseating because it's too much sweet. I know that in my hospital will be a dense orange-medicine tasting syrup... bleah!
underwear, I have two sizes more for the bra (!) but I still wear the old panties, low waist: I can't stand anything with a high waist on the tummy!
babies, wednesday we went to a clinic for my hubby's aunt and we looked at the nursery. There was a baby born right that morning! How sweet, so tiny... I can't think that between few months our babies will be here with us!
holidays, hi girls! I'll be 14 days at the sea so I'll come back here on the 7th of August with news on glucose test, u/s and my placenta!

Glucose drink- I think I'd prefer the Sprite-type drink... mine this time is the orange. During my first pregnancy I had the Sprite-type and only had to drink 1/2 of the bottle. This time I have to drink the whole bottle of orange. :( According to the nurse they switched labs and the new one does it differently. Lucky me.
Scarlett- It really becomes real when you see the babies in the nursery! I was at the hospital yesterday visiting my dad (has bronchitis and they just kept him overnight) and they play a lullabye song over the speakers whenever a baby is born. It just made me smile. :)
Enjoy your vacation!

Glucose drink~I don't know what flavor I'm going to luck out with, but at my ob appt this morning my doctor told me it's very very sugary-tasting and is actually pretty gross-tasting. I need to go in sometime between Aug 10-24 to get the drink at the place, then go back in an hour later for the testing. She said it was only ~6 oz and to just gulp it down since I won't want savor the taste. :)

Glucose drink ~ I had the orange flavored one with DD. I think it was only 6-8 ounces and I didn't mind the taste. It tasted like Orange Crush. I'm having my glucose test early this time since I had GD with my first, so I'm having it at my 24 week appt on Monday. I'll post back re the taste/results.

I am 23 weeks today! I keep reading about everyone getting their glucose tests and mine isn't for at least another two weeks.
I am amazed by all the things that are changing in myself right now. I thought at 20 weeks that I was getting into the groove of being pregnant and thought that there wouldn't be a lot of changes to me until the third trimester came along.
Those of you who have names for your babies-in-belly, do you refer to them by name? We were talking at dinner last night wih some friends and they asked why we called her by her name already. We feel pretty comfortable with that name and it makes me feel a little more of a bond.
Does anyone else have a split belly? I started out quite heavy before I got pregnant but I had no idea that my belly would grow this way. I have been talking to Carys and telling her to push as hard as she can there :) because I feel like I don't have one of those pretty round basketball bellies.
Good luck on all the glucose tests being taken this week!
Those of you who have names for your babies-in-belly, do you refer to them by name? Yes, we call her by name every day :)
Does anyone else have a split belly? I don't have a split belly, but my belly button has not popped yet. It is right on the verge, but not quite there yet. I am also carrying high, so I don't have the pretty pregnancy belly either. My belly starts right at my rib cage and goes from there.

Refer to baby by name? Everyday! I've nearly slipped in front of people on several occasions! It's becoming so easy to roll off the tongue that it just comes out.
Belly- I was about 40-50 lbs overweight and have gained nearly 30 lbs already. ACK! I don't think i have a cute pg belly but it isn't split either. I have one like Kyrsten where it starts just below my bb's so it isn't a cute little basketball shape. It's definitely pg at this point though!

Refering to baby by name?- Yes, DH and I do with each other and around certain people that we have shared the name with. Most of the time though I just call him baby since we aren't telling everyone what the name is until he is born.
split belly- I thought I would have a split belly, but I don't. I am starting to get pretty round. I need to take another belly shot so I can compare it with a few weeks ago.
Glucose drink- my 1 hr GTT is on Aug. 7th. I have no idea what flavors my OB's office has. I just hope I can get it down without a problem.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I went to a pig pickin' and ate tons of southern food - it was sooo good! The only thing that was rough was being outside in the heat and watching everyone enjoy a cold beer. I have been craving a Guiness, but still haven't given in to the craving yet. I have had a half a glass of wine with dinner on two occassions and savored every drop. It seems like I want to have a beer or a glass of wine now more than ever because I shouldn't drink it - any other time in my life I could have cared less.

Pain on left side above uterus: Anyone know what this might be? Gas? baby lodged in that area? Starting last Wed i've had a pain (not constant) on the left side under bb that hurts mostly when i'm standing. It also hurts more if i lift something like my 18 lb dog or 20 lb niece or if i am standing for a long period of time. It's nothing too excrutiating otherwise i would've called my doctor. It's really just uncomfortable. Also, the baby wasn't very active during this time but, today he's all over the place. I'm not too worried about it... i was just wondering if anyone else experienced something similar and has an idea what it is. I haven't noticed it yet today.

nic - we ordered our furniture from Baby Furniture Warehouse in Reading, MA. I think the long lead time was specific to the brand, due to the wood type, since it's cherry wood. The set we ordered was the Georgian Collection by Baby's Dream.
The crib looks absolutely awful on their website picture, but here's a pic of one of the dressers that shows the wood and detailing:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y202/lamki/bd_georgian_ling.jpg
BethIrish - What is the color you picked out? I picked out a sage green paint from Behr, but I'm nervous as to how it'll look on the wall, even though I like it on the paint chip.
Refer to baby by name? - Not too much because we're still trying to decide. We had a name we chose last year and we occasionally test drive it to see if we still like it!
split belly - I don't think I have one, but one thing that bothers me about my belly is that the linea nigra (sp?) does not match up in one straight line above and below my belly button. I know, a dumb thing to be annoyed with!
Dropping off a belly shot...I am so proud when I remember to do them! :)

nic/mayham We got our furniture from the Baby Furniture Warehouse in Reading as well. We got a Sorelle crib and a dresser/changer from Bonavita. They had them both in stock - so I think how long you wait depends solely on if they have it in stock!
mayham We used "Mellow Spring" by American Traditions (Lowes.) When we had it mixed I was afraid it was going to be too "minty" but it looks fantastic in the room. It's a sage without being too dark!

Oh, and I've switched my next appointment. I see the CNM for the first time on 8/7. (The day after our second anniversary. :D)
BethIrish - Can't wait to see pics of your nursery! Have a good appointment.
Kyrsten - Great shots! I think our "girl bellies" are sort of the same shape. ;)
mayham - I LOVE the look of that wood. You'll definitely have to post pics when you've got them set up!
ellidew - I don't know what to tell you about your pain. I get some tugs now and then but they're lower. Hope it goes away!
rubbersoul - A "pig pickin'"? I have no idea what that is but it sounds like fun! I'm sure a sip or two of Guinness wouldn't do any lasting damage if you just couldn't resist. :p
sare - No split belly here, but I've also been amazed at how quickly she's been growing in the last few weeks. It seems like I was barely showing at 19 weeks and now all of a sudden there's a big ole belly. And there are still three months + to go!! Yikes.
Hi everyone! I've been reading along but I don't have much to report these days, which I guess is not a bad thing. I've been feeling the baby kicking all the time now, which is great. It's such a surreal feeling but so reassuring at the same time. And a reminder that I am in fact pregnant. :D
ellidew: it sounds like it could be gas pains but it couldn't hurt to call the doctor just in case.
bijouparvin: cute belly pic! And I agree about time just flying! I can't believe August is right around the corner already.
Refering to baby by name?- Yes, but only in private since we're keeping the name a secret. I'm afraid that one of us will slip up too since we say it so often but so far so good.
split belly- I don't have a split belly but my stomach seems to 'spread' out a little whenever I'm sitting down, if that makes sense. My belly button is definitely more and more shallow though, which is a weird thing to see.
I forgot to mention that we changed the baby's name to Anabella Chloe Layne. Chloe is a family name on DH's side, and at first I was opposed to it, but it has grown on me.
Also, my Glucose test was moved to tomorrow afternoon bc I was fifteen minutes late last week :rolleyes:

bijouparvin - thanks for the compliment! I will definitely post a pic when it's all set up... whenever that may be. Great belly shot!
BethIrish - thanks for the color name! I'm going to Lowe's to take a look. Glad to know it's not too minty or dark, I think I'm going for a very similar color as you. That's great you already have your nursery furniture! I would have loved it if it was in stock, but I guess it's good it isn't because the room is not ready for anything to be set up in it yet!
Krysten - cute belly! I need to do a new shot for comparison too... we're definitely getting bigger, which is so exciting!!
Numbness in toes - This is a weird thing that started happening last Thursday. My pinky toe started feeling numb, and I attributed it to new shoes and it being the end of the day. However, I went to NYC this weekend, and did a lot of walking and noticed the entire weekend that the numbness would come back. This morning I felt it, and it's numb right now too.
Anyone else having this problem? I talked to a nurse at the office, and she said it may be due to poor circulation in pregnancy (I've ALWAYS had poor circulation to begin with). She told me to make sure I drink lots of fluids, and elevate my feet. I could go in to see the dr. tomorrow, but I don't think I can with my schedule. So I'm going to see how it goes this week, make sure I drink even more than i already do, try to elevate, etc. If it doesn't go away then I'll go to the dr next week (she's only in the office in my town on Tuesdays).
Has anyone else heard of this problem during pregnancy? I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but I don't want to ignore it in case it's something more.

I said in my LJ that the crib looks flimsy in this photo but it is actually quite sturdy. We also bought a matching dresser. The prices were relatively reasonable so as this stuff gets trashed over the years, I am not going to care.
~~~~~
Those of you who have names for your babies-in-belly, do you refer to them by name?
We are just starting to and it feels a little bit weird.
Does anyone else have a split belly?
I definitely do, if I know what you are referring to. I have a bulge below my belly button but it is taking a bit of time to move upward. There is a “dent” around my body where my belly button is. It really does not make for a cute preggo belly. It just looks like flab. One good thing is that breathing may be easier
~~~~~
Sinclair – you must be so excited that the nursery is pulling together. How fun was it to set up the bedding?
Nic – Isn’t it silly how long it takes to get furniture delivered? The only reason I am not panicking is because we can use a bassinet in the bedroom in case the crib is not available. I also so hear you about the price of the furniture! We managed to find something kind of affordable, which I was happy about. We cannot afford to pay $600 for a crib! I mean, I suppose we could but we would like to spend that money elsewhere like bringing the kiddo to Hawaii to see his grandparents.
Bethirish – it takes forever to register! Thank goodness for online manipulation :) I also bought a Sorelle crib! Affordable but sturdy.
Sare – have you posted a pic of a belly shot? I would like to see if our split bellies look the same.
Mayhem – we ordered from the Reading store too!
Kyrsten and Bijouparvin – now those are cute bellies!
Kyrsten – that is a really pretty name. I really like Chloe.
BethIrish and Mayham – I have written down the paint color too! :)

Hello, it's been awhile since I updated...
I had my 24 week appt last week - gained 11 lbs. total (6 of which in the last month). Happily, my BP was much lower - 110/68 (it was 120/90 at my last appt, so I was nervous). Nothing else really remarkable, except I get to do my GTT at the next appt in two weeks. I have the lemon-lime flavor.
It's been over 100 for about a week, and will be for at least another week here. I've been trying hard to stay cool. Last night, I had a little swelling in my legs - my shoes still fit, but my knee joints swelled. There was so much pressure in them, they really hurt. I couldn't sleep because they hurt so badly. I finally gave in and took an Advil. I know, bad mommy. But I can't believe how well it worked - pain gone within 30 minutes, and it hasn't returned.
I'm feeling stressed because we are contemplating trying to move next month. Yay - moving in August while seven months pregnant. It would be good for us to be in a bigger place, but obviously very stressful and exhausting. It also would be more expensive than where we are now. I hate being undecided about something like this.

Kyrsten~ gorgeous name! I love it!
Refering to baby by name? Not yet, but only b/c we haven't decided on a name yet. I only told DH just yesterday what my #1 favorite name is (I've had this fave name for a few years now actually) and he seemed to like it. Especially considering that one of the meanings of it is "sea god; son of the waves". DH is a longtime surfer and FIL is Hawaiian, so that meaning went over very well with him to say the least. We're just calling him "him" and "baby" for right now...:cool:
split belly~I'm not quite sure what that is exactly, but I don't think I have it? My belly button, which used to be quite deep-set, is now beginning to get shallower with every passing day.
kicking~I've just recently (as in the last 3-4 days) been feeling what is definitely baby moving! I was lying in bed the other night and felt a definite repeated kick on my left side (it actually felt more like a finger flick, it was so light). DH can feel the movements too from the outside on occasion, they can be so strong at times and so soft at others! Sometimes it feels like a kick kick, other times it feels like more of a rolling movement, like baby is rolling around and around in there. It's pretty surreal, and DH is super excited that he can feel him too.:eek:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have my level II u/s on Wednesday~I can't wait to get another peek at this little guy and see how things are going in there. At my ob appt Friday the doctor said she wouldn't be surprised if the cyst has dissolved itself by the time we get the u/s. Here's hoping! Keeping fingers crossed!!
She seemed awfully concerned about my weight gain, and I can see why. When I was weighed on Friday the scale showed 149. I swore just a few days earlier I was at 142. I got home that night and weighed myself and I was at 143. Where on earth are those extra 6 lbs coming from? So based on my start weight of 135, dr says my gain of nearly 15 lbs is too much this early. I swear to goodness that I have only gained 7-8 lbs! If I'd gained 15 lbs, one would definitely notice it on my 5'2" frame, and everyone that's seen me says I don't even look pregnant, save for the belly that's beginning to show a bit more prominently.
My start weight was based on the scale at my home, which I regularly weigh myself on every week. I know it's fairly accurate b/c I weigh myself on my mom's scale when I'm at her house, and it's within a pound of what I weigh at home. :confused: I just don't get it. I'm going to bring this up to the dr at my next contact w/her. There's no way I magically 'lost' 6 lbs in the course of 7 hours in between weigh-in at the dr's and at home. I know, don't worry about it, etc. But when the dr starts voicing concerns and offering tips about weight gain overload, I do start to wonder about it...maybe I'll just start ignoring anything weight-related at all future ob appts??
I was supposed to have my GTT at my 24 week appt today, but I had an 11am appt and didn't even see my OB until 11:40. DD and I had already been at BFing group at the hospital, so she'd been out and about since 9am and was getting really tired. So I talked my OB out of my GTT today. I had late onset GD with DD and didn't really see the point in testing this early. So she compromised and asked me to come in at 27 weeks instead of 28. At that time I'll get my RhoGam shot and my GTT. My next appt is 8/14.
My BP was awesome - 110/69 (same as mimieliza!). My BP with my DD was always in the 140ish/90ish range b/c I had mild pre-e, so I was so happy with this BP. It's actually gone down since my first few visits.
One cause of concern is I had contractions this morning. My OB checked and fortunately I'm not dilated. I think I got dehydrated. She told me that the next time that happens to sit down with my feet up and drink 64 ounces of water!! :eek: I did drink 32 ounces after my contrax this morning and that stopped them. She said if I had 4 in one hour to call them immediately. Scary! It's way too early for this!
Those of you who have names for your babies-in-belly, do you refer to them by name? Sometimes we do... I guess 1/2 the time we refer to him as "the baby" and 1/2 the time we use his name.
Does anyone else have a split belly? I think I'm on the verge of one. There's a small indentation between my uterus and stomach. My stomach sticks way out b/c I have a hernia (diastatsis).
Kyrsten and Bijouparvin ~ Great belly shots!! :)
Kyrsten ~ That's a beautiful name. It flows very nicely and is really feminine.
Rancid13 ~ What time are your OB appts.? Could it be water weight? Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm 5'6" and have gained 30+ pounds. One of the OBs said just to watch it, but wasn't overly concerned. I gained 60 or 65 (can't remember) lbs. with DD and I lost it all within one year. My weight gain that time was from GD and polyhydramnios (excessive amniotic fluid) - complications, but not scary or painful if caught and dealt with. I think some doctors make a bigger deal out of weight gain than others do. Even with as much as I gained with DD, none of my 4 docs thought it was a big deal. My DD weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and was perfectly healthy.
mimieliza ~ Stay cool! The heat is awful for us PG mommies, isn't it? Good luck if you guys decide to move.
catgirl - Yikes about the contractions! It's a good reminder to all of us to stay hydrated during these hot months.
Newbie question for RO's since catgirl got me thinking:
What does a contraction feel like and how do you know if you're having one?
Contractions ~ Well, since I had them so recently and it's fresh in my mind... :) this morning I felt nauseous, dizzy, and crampy like I was going to have diarrhea but it wasn't diarrhea, and my uterus tightened up off and on 2 times. I did have pre-term contrax with DD and just thought she was moving around and sticking her butt out. Those were coming every 2 minutes and I didn't even know they were contrax! They did nothing to dilate me, but still had to be stopped. Those felt like she was sticking her butt way out in my stomach and my uterus was tightening around her butt. In hindsight I now realize it was my uterus contracting and loosening. They were coming so fast I didn't know what they were. If you have less than 4 in an hour they'll tell you to put your feet up and drink a buttload of water (it's almost impossible to get water toxification when you're PG). If you have more than 4 in an hour, like I did with DD, I had to go to the hospital L&D floor, they checked me out by hooking me up to a non-stress test machine, and I was given a shot of Brethine to stop the contrax. I had to have that done 3 times with DD. I was on bedrest with DD for several months. Two weeks before my EDD they took me off b/c it would have been safe to have her then. I contracted for 2 freakin' weeks and still had to be induced. I was only a fingertip dilated at 40 weeks after all of that. I was induced b/c of the GD and her heartrate was dropping. It was funny... I kept telling the nurses that the contrax weren't so bad. They just laughed and said that I'd be in full blown labor when I couldn't walk or talk. They were right. :) Sorry so long... pregnancy makes me ramble.
My first appt was late afternoon, my last few have been fairly early morning (8:30am)...I wouldn't worry about it but my ob seemed to make such a big deal of it at the appt on Friday that it kind of had this odd effect on me. I'm not eating that poorly, have done some things such as cut out my usual favorite snacks: candy, chips and baked goods out in lieu of healthier snack fare like fruit, Ensure Mother granola bars, and Smart Pop 100-calorie microwave popcorn. I also drink a buttload of water throughout the day in this 95+ degree heat.
catgirl - That wasn't rambling, it was very informative! I don't feel anything but kicking and rolling these days but I want to be on the alert just in case. My week-by-week book said that if she were born now, she'd have a 15% chance of survival. Ummm...scary! Keep cookin', little girl!!
Another question:
...sh*t, I forgot...
...
...ummm...
...
OH yeah!! (Gotta love that pregnancy brain - I literally sat here for two or three minutes trying to remember my question - better type it before I forget again!)
I eat sugar regularly. Am I bad? I mean, not gobs and gobs, and not Twinkies or anything like that, but I eat my share of ice cream and homemade cookies, banana bread, etc. When we go to the movies, I get candy. And sometimes if I want a treat, I'll get a decaf frappuccino. I'm hearing everyone else talk about skipping sugar and I'm wondering if I'm being an awful mommy. The rest of my diet is pretty good (vegetarian with lots of fruit and yogurt) but I haven't made a concerted effort to cut back on sweets. Should I? Maybe my GTT will tell me I have to, whenever I have to take it.
Bijouparvin - I eat a lot of sugar as well. Even "healthy" things I'm eating often have a lot of sugar (like yogurt and OJ). Like you, I'm not downing twinkies, but I really am craving sweets. There have been several nights where I want ice cream for dinner. Luckily my OB is not one to be too concerned about weight, so I haven't been worried about cutting back. I don't think you can cause GD by eating sugar - but if you have it, obviously the sugar makes it worse. Miranda likes the sugar - she moves and grooves after I eat. :)
Calling baby by name - We call her by name all the time now. It's nice.
Rancid - You were so tiny to begin with, I can't believe they are stressing you about your weight gain!
mermccau - Lovely crib! I don't think it looks flimsy at all. It's crazy how long it can take. It reminds me of when I started planning our wedding - it takes HOW LONG to order a wedding dress?!?
Our crib and dresser have arrived at the store, but it's in Seattle, 4.5 hours away. We're going to wait a month or two before picking it up, especially if we end up moving.
The THIRD Trimester! :eek: Don't even say that! It's freaking me out! I think because we're considering this move, I'm sooooo overwhelmed. I was overwhelmed just thinking I had to put together one room, and now I'm contemplating putting together a whole house.
BTW, I know this has been asked, but when does the third trimester start? 26 weeks?
If you're bad, then I'm bad too. I drink a 12oz can of Dr Pepper every morning (my caffeine fix), and although I have this love for baked goods and candy, I have definitely cut down in the last few months. But I still have lots of love for sugar in all its forms, more than probably the average person. :) I get candy at the movies too, usually licorice along with a soda. I do love Twinkies too, I try to only have 1 per week at most. I eat a lot of fruit too, and we all know fruit has gobs of sugar in it. Guess I'll find out at my GTT in ~3 weeks how bad I truly am being...:eek: :o
mimieliza - I think it officially starts at 27 weeks. I know if I'm going on 24, then there must be a few gals here that are honing in on 27. I know, scary! :eek:
I feel a little guilty after I indulge in sugar because she goes so crazy. I feel like she's getting jerked around involuntarily, like I've put the Imperius Curse on her or something. Poor little thing. :o
rancid - Ooh! Red vines with soda is my MOST FAVORITE movie treat. Can you believe that they don't sell them at movie theatres on the east coast (at least in the NY/NJ area)? I still can't get over that and I've been her more than three years.
I know! I was telling one of my East Coast friends that my favorite movie treat is Red Vines, and she had no clue what I was talking about. I had to explain that it was a brand of red licorice. They didn't even know what they were in Texas either, luckily I'd brought a few trays out with me for some hockey games we were attending (they're also my favorite sporting event snack) otherwise I would've been SOL at the game. :D
I was recently waching an episode of Modern Marvels I think it was? The title of the show was Snack Tech, and they had a full 10-minutes focused on the creation of Red Vines. And another 5-10 minutes on Dr Pepper (my soda of choice). I was entranced with the show, I think I watched it twice. :D :D
I tried to post this earlier, but CC was going wacky and wouldn't let me :mad:.
bijouparvin- lol - a pig pickin' is when you roast a pig on a big cooker (imagine a really big grill) for several hours. Then the meat gets chopped up and vinegar and spices are added. This is the traditional way of preparing Eastern NC BBQ - where I am from it is a sin to put BBQ sauce on BBQ :p. Everyone that comes to the pig pickin' brings a dish like cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, etc. It is a big feast. There is always lots of beer involved. I guess its a southern thing :). You look great in your belly shot! I just noticed the Harry Potter reference - I love the books!
Kyrsten- great belly shot and I love the name!
mayham- I haven't had any numbness in my toes, but my hands get a little numb and tingly from time to time.
mermccau- beautiful crib and bedding!
mimieliza- I hate moving too. However, in my mind it would be easier to move while 7 months pregnant than with a newborn. Good luck with your decision.
Rancid- Good to hear that your level II is coming up so you can get some more info and hopefully find out that your little guy is perfectly healthy!
QOTD - Anyone else getting varicose veins or spider veins?
I am unfortunate when it comes to these and already had varicose veins and spider veins prior to getting pregnant. They both have gotten worse now and I have a lot more spider veins. I hate it. Luckily I don't have any pain associated with the varicose veins. I will not wear shorts anymore though since they are so ugly! I am going to have to look into treatment after the baby is born.
Here are a couple of nursery picts and belly shots!
The nursery is long and rectangular--here is looking in from the door (sorry it's kinda dark) I need to get white letters to spell his name above his crib:
3rd trimester-I believe begins at 27 weeks (yikes, just a week and a half until I'm in my 3rd tri?!)
Scare--I had a minor scare yesterday--I hadn't felt Corbin move much--he's normally very active about an hour after I eat. I waited until after lunch (where I drank a soda to try and get him moving) and nothing, so I called the doctor. The nurse said, "Have you felt 10 movements in an hour?" I told her "I've felt one very faint movement about 10 am, that's it." She said, "We need you to come in." I leave work, trying not to freak out and cry. I can't get ahold of C because he was in a big meeting. So they hook me up to a machine to monitor his heart rate and movements. He was having lots of little movements that I couldn't feel, but then he gave me a couple of good kicks! :-) The NP also checked me and there weren't any signs of contractions and my cervix is still high and closed. Phew! I asked her about some cramping/pain I had and it's round ligament pain (which I figured, I just wanted to be sure since I also noticed a decrease in movement)
Sinclair- I am so jealous that you have been able to get so much done in your nursery! It looks great. I love the wall colors. I still have some of my father's furniture in the room that is going to be the nursery. I have been bugging him for about a month and a half to get his furniture out my house, but he hasn't done it yet. My crib, dresser, and glider should be showing up sometime in the month of August and I can't wait to get started. Thanks for sharing the pictures - it makes me want to get moving on painting! Your bellys shots look great. I am amazed you are carrying so high! I am carrying very low compared to you.
Sare- I love the top on your new outfit!
sugar- I eat my fair share of sugar. I usually have a soda or some sweet tea everyday. I have always been addicted to ice cream. I had four different kinds of ice cream in my freezer at one point :o.
Hi -
I'm a big lurker of this thread, due Nov. 8. Question for Sinclair and others about movement: Sinclair's post got me worried. I've been feeling pretty regular movement for the past few weeks, but certainly not 10 kicks/hour. I thought you weren't supposed to start counting until 28 weeks or so. For the record, my doctor hasn't mentioned any of this to me -- he's very laid back. Any input?
Quick drive-by post
movement I think with my first pregnancy i really didn't feel much movement until much later. With this pregnancy, it's so different. Movement can also differ based on the position of the baby and your positioning. So don't worry, sake, as long as your baby is consistent.
This kid is a kicker. HOLY MOLEY! It felt like she was rearranging furniture in there yesterday. I was trying to sleep on my left side but tend to rollover to part of my belly. She must have been right there because she started kicking me, like "get OFF!!!!:
Wow! We are getting close to the 3rd trimester and things really seem to be moving along!
sake Welcome! Please don't feel you have lurk, join us! I am certainly not feeling 10 kicks an hour! I usually feel the baby move several times a day, not x number of movements every hour.
sinclair I love the blue paint color with the white furniture! Too bad we have so much oak trim in the nursery, so we need to pick oak furniture. sorry you had such a scare yesterday!
sare I have read in other thread about some mommies getting the spilt belly. It seems that it rounds out as you get closer to your EDD. Personally, I think your belly button area just looks kind of still inwards while the rest of your tummy is pushing out. Not so much a split belly, but a belly button that hasn't caught up. Am I making any sense?
sugar Well, I am not pigging out on junk foods (most don't seem too appealing for some reason), but I am not avoiding sugar. I am usually craving ice cream, fruit, milk or baked goods, sometimes eggs. The rest of my diet has been pretty good- lots of veggies, whole grains, lean protien.
swelling I noticed my ankles seem to be swelling with the heat. Most of the time, I am not able to wear my rings.
varicose veins? none yet, but the stretch marks keep appearing in new areas. I had stretch marks on the BBs by month 3 when I went from a C to a D cup. I now have some on the side of my waist and I noticed some starters on my hips this morning.
I was feeling some cramping low in my pelvis and in the cervix over the past 4 days. Since I have the placenta previa and was told to call if I had any cramping, I called the dr yesterday. They had me come in and get hooked up to a monitor to watch for contractions. No contractions, just a very active baby. I also did a urine test to test for a bladder infection (I don't have any symptoms). They also wanted another US today to check the postion of the placenta. We went to a different US place because they could schedule me for early this morning. They did a regular US, a vaginal US to get a better look at the placenta and a 3D US becuse the tech wanted to and had time! We were excited (hopefully the insurance covers it!) She did say that you cannot usually get good 3D pics until 28 weeks, but we tried it anyways. His face is to left of the pic.
http://static.flickr.com/71/198033093_b92ca93741.jpg?v=0
We confirmed his boy parts (and got a clear penis pic.) The placenta has not moved, so more pelvic rest and still no DTD for us!
roberta--I love the 3D pict! I spent part of last week looking at random 3D picts and videos online. Makes me think about what my little one is looking like!
movement-I definitely don't feel 10 kicks per hour either--he's much more active about an hour after I eat and when he was being so lazy yesterday I got worried. The nurse said that if this happens again to lay on my left side and count the kicks/movement.
sake-Welcome! You're due on our anniversary--great day!!! :-) And please, feel free to join us, we're a friendly bunch!
All this third trimester talk is scaring me. I feel like I'm just getting in the groove of being pregnant - and I'm so not prepared for a baby yet!
roberta - What a cool U/S pic! I'm going for my check-up on Monday for my placenta. I'd love to end the pelvic rest!
sinclair319 - I love the color of your nursery walls!
mimieliza - We're going to be moving in Aug/Sept too, so I feel your pain. We just put our apartment up for sale, so hopefully it will sell quickly, so we can move and get settled in a new place. I haven't bought anything for the baby yet because we've been in such a state of flux, not knowing where we'll be living.
movement - I feel movement several times a day, but nowhere close to 10x's an hour. I think I felt hiccups for the first time last weekend - I couldn't stop giggling. I want to feel them again!
sweets - Um. I must confess - I have a rabid sweet tooth lately. All I want for dinner are cookies. I'm settling for one or two cookies after dinner, but it's a test of my self control.
veins - I've always had spider veins and they seem to be getting a bit worse. Combined with all the new cellulite, there's no way I'm wearing shorts this summer.
Question - Is anyone having foot pain? By the end of the day, my feet are killing me. They seem slightly swollen, so I try to keep them raised up when I get home, but it doesn't seem to help much. I'm not sure what to do to relieve the discomfort.
movement: I definitely don't feel 10 kicks per hour. Sometimes I only feel the kicks for a little bit at night or first thing in the morning. He's been lazy today but I'm trying not to worry until later tonight. Luckily I still have the doppler machine for a quick fix. ;)
Question: At what point, or how many weeks, are you supposed to definitely feel 10 kicks per hour?
sake: welcome and please join us when you're comfortable! :)
sinclair: the wall color in your nursery is so beautiful and very calming. did you use two different shades of blues on the walls?
sweets: I'm pretty good during the day but I love having a bowl of ice cream at night every once in a while. For some reason, I'm so afraid of failing the GTT test that I'm trying to watch my carbs and sugar when I can.
varicose veins: Yup, I've been blessed with having a bunch on one of my upper thighs. I wanted to get them lasered off but my derm. recommended waiting until I was done having children since she said they can come back during pregnancy. Lovely. I haven't noticed any new ones but of course I have 4 more months to go.
sinclair~I'm loving your nursery! I dig the shades of blue you used on the wall, it's looking really good!! Sorry to hear about your scare yesterday, but so glad to hear that all is well. :)
roberta~I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and hope that the next ~3 months go by smoothly for you!
movement~I've just recently (as of last Thurs/Fri) been able to feel what I know are definite baby movements, and not just digestion and/or gas. Some of the kicks/movements are strong enough that DH can feel them from the outside too, which he is currently loving to do at night. I can feel them from the inside generally all day long, and it's so surreal and weird right now! :D
swelling/foot pain~Definitely have been having foot pain for the last couple of weeks. I don't spend much time on my feet (I work a desk job) but it's been noticeable at the end of the day to the point where all I want to do is sit down, put my feet up and never get up.
My birthday was this past weekend, and my BFF was telling me she was trying to find a Boppy Pregnancy pillow to get me as a gift, but could only find it online. I informed her that I already have one, but could really REALLY use one of those foot bath/massage things I see all the time at Target and BB&B...looking forward to getting one finally.
QOTD - Anyone else getting varicose veins or spider veins?Not that i've noticed...I'm sure I'll get one or the other or potentially both though, since they do tend to run in the females in my family. :rolleyes:
paint--yep, we used 2 different colors of blue in the nursery (it's more apparently in real life, the picts make it harder to tell) We used "honest blue" and "sporty blue" from Sherwin Williams. The paint went on really thick and we only needed minor touch ups and not a whole 2nd coat.
veins-slowly but surely I'm getting spider veins--and I naturally sit with my legs crossed--trying to break that habit!
sweet tooth--DEFINITELY!!! If I could eat ice cream, cookies, and candy all day long I'd be so happy!! Thankfully my gestational diabetes test came back okay! ;)
sweet tooth- I kind of teeter between sweet tooth and carb cravings. Often times the sweet follows the carb :)
Veins: I haven't noticed anything yet. There's still time. Hopefully no one is suffering too badly.
Movements: I've been feeling him for a couple of weeks now though he apparently took a vacation over the weekend and i stressed myself out about not feeling him as much. However, yesterday and today he's back to his acrobats. When i start to feel him i do a quick count. I was to 10 this morning within about 10 minutes before getting out of bed. But, like i said, he's been active today and yesterday whereas over the weekend i probably couldn't have counted 10 in the entire day.
Awesome nursery Sinclair! I totally envy your progress since we haven't made any! lol. We do have plans to get to the store this weekend and make a final decision on a crib. Bedding, the changing table, etc... we're hoping to get as gifts from one of our showers. Though i've heard very little chatter about my shower so i'm guessing i wont know anything until after my sisters wedding reception on the 5th of August.
Roberta- I'm glad everything is okay with you and your little one! Great u/s pic!
Sare: Great belly shots. Maybe i'll take some this weekend in my swimming suit since we're going to get a weekend away to sit by a pool!
3rd Trimester- I'm going to start the 3rd trimester count at the start of 27 weeks. That's exactly 2 weeks away. It scares me to think it's that close and we still have so much to do! I'm ready to meet our ds though :D I swear it took FOREVER to get to the 2nd Tri and then the 2nd tri came and went in the blink of an eye!
When you tell someone your due date does anyone else get the reaction 'oh, that's so far away!' Uh, no it's not. We're talking 15 weeks here folks! Yesterday i had someone comment, 'oh, so you're barely half way'... Well, no, 5 weeks ago we were half way! I think it's hard for people to imagine fall and November in July but it's not that far off!
My Update: I JUST returned from having my blood drawn for the GTT. I went in and drank the orange drink (i had cola, orange, and lemon lime to choose from. It wasn't bad at all, just like drinking kool aid that doesn't have enough water in it.) Then i went back an hour later and they drew the blood. Now i'm enjoying my lunch! Here's hoping i pass with flying colors. I'm really not too worried about the results but we'll see.
I wont be able to check in until next Monday since dh and i are getting out of town tomorrow through Saturday. It's a much needed break that includes a visit to an outlet mall and some much needed relaxation sitting by the pool! Also, i'm going to get a prenatal massage while at the resort! I can't WAIT to do that! Happy Birthday to me!
I hope everyone has an uneventful rest of the week! Stay cool.
Does anyone else have a sensitivity to light?
I swear, I am turning into a vampire! I feel fine until I step outside the sun feels like it is piercing into my eyeballs, giving me the beginning of a migraine. I gotta tell you, I am not enjoying this summer much.
eating sugar regularly:
My sweet tooth has kicked in big time and I constantly think of sweet things to eat. It is torture. I probably indulge every day which I am not happy about. It does not help that I have an ice cream shop right across the street from my house. How the hell is a pregnant woman supposed to resist that???
Anyone else getting varicose veins or spider veins?
Oh, yes, and it is pissing me off.
Baby movement:
I just starting feeling anything a week or two ago. I have not been paying attention to any routine.
Bethirish – the only reason I know the name of that crib is because I just ordered it :)
Mimieliza – man, you must be hurting in that heat! I hope you are able to sit in a cool room with your feet up, reading a good book or something. Thanks for the crib compliments.
Rancid – hope that cyst is history! That is interesting that your dr is concerned about 15 lbs this far along. I guess all drs are different. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Heck, I know women who lived off of ice cream and hot dogs when they were pregnant and they had very healthy children. Does you dr know about your Dr Pepper “habit”? ;)
Catgirl – that is scary! I could not even imagine having contractions now! :eek:
Bijourparvin – Bwahahaha! Pregnancy brain. I think you are fine with your sweets if you eat well, as you seem to do. Perhaps I am biased, though, because I am indulging in sugar too.
Rubbersoul – thanks for the compliments :D
Sare – I think I have the same kind of split. I took belly shots this morning and need to post them.
Sinclair – the nursery looks fantastic! I love the color blue that you chose. I dare say, I think you have popped! Thank goodness your scare was only that – a scare.
Roberta – I am so jealous of your 3D u/s!
Ppwgal – yeah, what is up with that new cellulite??? I have always loved my legs. They have stayed thin and toned for most of my life. Now, I have cellulite!! :mad:
Ellidew – yes! I hear that and it surprises me since it seems like we are all so far along. Enjoy your time away.
Movement-I am really having a hard time with this. The baby is SO active that I don't have a lot of rest. He is constantly moving, fluttering, jumping, turning, and disrupting my sleep. I'm so tired I could cry. Is there such a thing as TOO much movement?
Next OB appt is tomorrow.
Yeah, she knows! One of the first things I asked when I went in for my first ob appointment was if I could still have my caffeine. She okayed up to 300mg per day; a 12-oz can of Dr Pepper only has about 40-45mg. :D
Does anyone else have a sensitivity to light?
no more than normal
eating sugar regularly:
I have a HUGE sweet tooth, which I never really had before pregnancy.
Anyone else getting varicose veins or spider veins?
I had some before pregnancy, and I do not notice them getting worse
Baby movement:
I have been able to feel Anabella move since around 16 weeks. Fourth of July weekend I was sent to the hospital bc I had not been able to feel her move for 3 days. They put me on a fetal monitor, and for hte first time ever, they had a hard time finding her. At ten weeks we could hear her heartbeat as soon as the doppler got anywhere near my uterus. So, they determined that she was hiding, and left me strapped in for about an hour. Eventually, she came out to play and hasn't hidden since.
Well, we had another little scare today. I had some spotting this morning, so I had to go in for the dreaded pelvic. They were unable to determine the cause. The bonus was that I got another ultrasound. I am not sure why these pics are so small, but here they are anyway. The tech said that Anabella has really chubby cheeks :)
http://static.flickr.com/72/198259455_3caaa0b7fa.jpg?v=0
I wish I could make them bigger bc the last one is really adorable. It is her face, and she looks like she is smiling.
Rancid - That is great news!
My question: I have been feeling great for most of the 2nd trimester, but starting yesterday I am so tired I feel like a zombie. Today I could barely make it through my normal gym workout. There's no real reason that I can see. I'm wondering if maybe the baby is having a growth spurt and sapping my energy? Or maybe I'm getting sick? Anyone else feel great one day, and then like a zombie the next?
Rancid - That is great! I hope everything looks normal tomorrow at your u/s.
Baby Movement - last night I set the remote control on my belly while lying on the couch and it bumped up and down with her movements. It's so cool to see it from the outside. :)
Even with all that movement, I definitely don't feel 10 per hour during the day. She stays pretty quiet until I lie down in the evenings or until after I eat something.
bijouparvin- Wow you really popped between 20 and 23 weeks. That is an amazing difference!
mermccau- You look like you popped too! I need to get batteries for my camera so I can take a recent belly shot.
Lydia- You look great!
CityGirl- I have days where I feel really sluggish and other days where I have plenty of energy. I think part of it is the heat (it has been in the 90's here forever).
bijou and mermccau awesome progressions! I need to get on the ball and get some more belly pics, it's been a few weeks since my last one, and I've only done 2 "sessions" thus far. :)
Wow, I just noticed that there is now a April 2007 Mommies thread. Amazing!
The baby was finally more active last night once I lied down. Whew! I started to really stress out yesterday and tried the chocolate and fruit juice trick to no avail. Of course it was a good excuse to eat some chocolate but stressful nonetheless. Ironically, he's been much more active today so go figure. I guess he has his own routine and I'll just go with it.
Question- Has anyone started looking into different birthing methods like Bradley, Hypnobirthing, Hypnobabies, etc.? I am going to start reading up on different things since I am thinking about trying for NCB. I am not opposed to getting an epidural, I just figure I will give NCB a shot and read up on all the other possibilities too so I can be prepared.
RO's do you have any experience you would like to share regarding any of the different methods (doesn't have to be one I have mentioned)?
I would also love any book recommendations anyone has on the labor/birth experience. I am weird and have to read about everything to feel like I am prepared.:p.
birthing methods - Our birth plan is still a little up in the air but I think we're going to take a Bradley class and shoot for an unmedicated L/D in a birthing pool. There's even enough room for DH to get in the pool with me. When I asked about this, the nurse giving me the tour said, "Yes, as long as he wears a swimsuit." Hahaha! They must have had enough naked daddies to make that a part of the spiel. I can't even imagine DH stripping down to nada in front of a bunch of nurses and midwives. Teeheehee! Funny to picture, though! :p
Just in case, at our hospital, there is a 24-hr anesthesiologist so if I break down and decide I need an epidural, I can come out of the water and into a bed, and get toked up.
rubbersoul - To be honest, I have learned a lot about some of the different methods and labor aids just by watching "A Baby Story" on TLC. I'm a dork, I know, but it's actually been pretty informative. :rolleyes:
Rancid- I'm glad to hear you got good AFp test results, you must be relieved!
Lydia- Yay for passing the GTT!
BTW, do you sell those nursing cover-ups? I might be interested in one of you do.
Has anyone started looking into different birthing methods like Bradley, Hypnobirthing, Hypnobabies, etc. I've read up on different methods but I think I'm going with epidural, although the thought of a needle in my spine doesn't sound promising. I have a pretty low threshold for pain and I don't want to set myself up to fail. I was in tears the other night becuase of back pain, I can't even imagine how I'd handle a med-free birth.
I signed up for our hospital tour today- October 4th. That's a month before my due date, so I think that gives us plenty of time. Breastfeeding class is the same week, yikes!
Not really a belly shot but a picture of me at the beach (25 w 4days):
The cysts (yes, plural) are GONE!! No more cysts and the baby is looking really really good. Spine looks good, all measurements are spot on, no club feet, etc. He's weighing in at 15 ounces, just under a pound, and there's no denying that it's most definitely a boy~that's for sure!! Hubby mentioned (at that point) how proud he was, and the doctor said he had good reason to be, LOL!! :D
We don't have the new u/s pictures scanned in yet, but will hopefully be able to do so soon...
Lydia ~ Congrats on passing your GTT!!
RubberSoul/Birthing/Books ~ I had a NCB with my DD. I had back surgery previously and couldn't have an epi so I didn't have a choice. I'm glad I went through it though. I checked into Bradley, but none of the classes in our area mesh with our schedule. I have heard good things about Bradley though. You might want to check out hiring a Doula - you can find one in your area on the DONA (http://www.dona.org) web site. I'd also recommend the book Having a Baby Naturally by Peggy O'Mara, editor of Mothering magazine. The Mothering web site (http://www.mothering.com) also has a lot of good info.
Just a quick post. I had my 24 week OB appointment today and I have gained 23 lbs already! :o My Dr. said that it is fine for someone my size, but geez, I feel like I am getting huge! I also get to go for ultrasounds every 3 weeks from here forward to check fetal development because of some heart medications I am on. Everything has been normal so far and I welcome the opportunity to see my little ladybug more.
Rancid, I am so happy for you and the test results!
RO's do you have any experience you would like to share regarding any of the different methods (doesn't have to be one I have mentioned)?
I don't have any experience with NCB b/c I asked for the drugs right away. I am very sensitive to medications so even the Nubain made me crazy but it did offer a lot of relief. And after the epi...well, forget it! I felt no pain during delivery and for a while afterward. I felt so good I was eager to do it again and now I am looking forward to L&D!
kadee_29
07-27-2006, 05:47 AM
Ok so I haven't started the new thread yet. :rolleyes: I got sucked into all the reality shows last night and forgot. LoL
One thing I do want to say about any type of birth is that you shouldn't say I am doing it one way or another and that's that. Things can and will happen during L&D that change everything in an instant. I am not saying not to try for those things, just be prepared if things don't go as planned.
Both my previous deliveries were medicated. I didn't have an epi and I am hoping to go without this time too. But I am also at an elevated risk and may wind up with a c/s. As much as I don't want one I know that I may not have a choice.
Ok off my little preacher stand now. ;) New thread coming soon!!!
Rancid13 - so glad to hear the test results are good and the cysts are gone!! Phew!
Is anyone else experiencing mucousy discharge? I've had the watery kind, which I know is normal, but last night I had a big "glop" of mucousy, almost like EWCM discharge. I mentioned it to my doctor at the last appt. and he said not to worry as long as it's not bloody, but I can't help but be concerned...
Rancid-Congrats on your wonderful news! And yeah for more u/s picts--I'm so jealous you got to see your little guy (and yep, he's definitely a guy!) again!
labor-I think it's kinda funny, but I'm not nervous or scared of labor. Sure it will be painful, but ya know, I can't fail at it--one way or another Corbin will be here. Breastfeeding, which I totally want to do, is something I'm terrified that I'll fail at. I know that may seem irrational, but that's where my fears are. Anyone else, what are you afraid of?
:) DH got to feel Corbin move last night for the first time--it wasn't a huge kick, but at least he felt movement. After giving us the scare earlier this week he was dancing up a storm last night! I was lying on my left side watching TV (reality right there with ya, Kadee) and had my hand on my belly. I felt him move on the left and right side at the same time--like he stretched out or did the splits. It was the weirdest feeling, but so cool!!! :)
