I am a die hard Yankees fan, so I thought I would like to start a thread so all my fellow bombers fans can talk without dominating a thread or pissing anyone off, I hope people are interested cause I love me some Yankees!
So they are in 1st now, yay! Thank God A-rod finally got a hit, he has been slumping like mad lately! So who are everyone's favorites?

There is only one man in my life outside of my Dad and DH--and that's Derek Jeter.

sigh.

Oh how I love him.

Huge Yankees fan here. Married to a Met fan. Makes life fun. We have lots of fun with it. I'm going to the Yankees-Mets game at Shea on May 19th. Can't wait to go. I get abused though because we go with DH's family who are all Met fans. Last year the Yanks lost the game we went to and after the game in the parking lot they had people abusing me. It was too funny. They would start to cheer with people who walked by our car then say, "But look at the Yankee fan." One guy came over and gave me a hug. I'm ok with it because I really dish it out to them a lot. You know- if you can't handle you shouldn't dish it. I can though, its fun.

My favortie player is Damon, also A-Rod. But my all time favorite is Thurman Munson. He will always be my favorite. No doubt!

Does anyone ever see the Ultimate Roadtrippers on the Yes network? I would kill to do that. Last year I found the group at Shea and we talked to them a litlte bit. They were so cool!!! Took pics with them, DH even got on the show for few seconds.

Thurman was my favorite as a kid--him and Bucky Dent. I was at an Atlanta Braves game when TM died--so very sad.

Yeah- it is sad how he died. I tell ya though, no matter where I go, who I talk to, everyone can tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing when they found out he died. Its amazing.

I have a charm that I wear from time to time, its a big #15. I always get asked what it is for. When I tell people that it is for him, I hear the story of where they were when they found out. Even when I was on vacation in California I heard the stories. Amazing!

Another fan here! We're (partial) partial season ticket holders. Anyone else get to the stadium regularly?

I just love baseball in general. But, it's hard to live in thei area and NOT be a Yanks fan!

Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig. And of course dreamy Derek. ;)

Hi there! Joining! I'm a Yankee fan by marriage. Don't hate me, but I never really liked baseball until we started dating - it was just one of those things that you're so sure about yourself and BAM everything changes! Anyway, we did get to see the Yankees during an exhibition game against the Diamondback (tie game). Here are a couple pics:

This was obviously taken from the nosebleed seats!

sublime311- Hi there! Why would we hate you for not being a big fan? Hey, it happens. I was never really a basketball fan. I would watch it, but not really go crazy ove rit. But then I met Dh who is a big Nets fan and now I really enjoy it. We go to games every year. I love it. Thanks for those pics. They are great. I can't wait to get to Arizona for a game. DH and I are doing a stadium tour and Arizona is one I really want to see. There and San Francisco. We are going to Colorado this year. Its a surprise for DH's 40th birthday. I can't wait to give it to him on his birthday- June 3. I've had it all put together for some time now and have almost slipped so many times. Only a few more weeks. LOL

Can't wait for the game to begin. Is it 7 yet? ;)

Karen, Chase Ballpark is DEFINITELY cool! As you can tell from the shadows, the roof was open when we were there, but I think it's awesome that they could close it during the sweltering heat of our summers.

I think your stadium tour gift is AMAZING! Be sure to post what his reaction is (I can imagine it)!

Poor Matsui - it looked PAINFUL! Ouch.

Also painful - randy Johnson pitching. Ouch. He just ain't what he used to be!

We were supposed to go to last night's game, but ended up selling the tickets because we're just too busy, plus I'm PG and the crowds don't sound like much fun. Glad we weren't there - a loss, and it was quite chilly last night.

Just found this thread - thought I would bump it up.

I'm a long time Yankee fan. I remember the glory of Chris Chambliss's home run that sent us to the World Series. Thurman in the clutch, Nettles at third, Wille, Roy White - so many of them. Derek is my favorite on the current team. He is what a Yankee Captain should be. I've only been to one game this year, hopefully we'll make a couple more before the season ends.

I went to Monday night's game with 17 friends from work. Very fun. And a great game too! Last night was a fun one to watch as well (albeit from my sofa).

OK... So what are your thoughts on A-Rod? I know he makes mistakes but he's still a Yankee. He's one of ours and I hate that many Yankee fans boo him. [I hate booing in general; I don't even boo for other teams (and I'm a nutty fan for my two teams).] What are your thoughts? Are Yankee fans justified in their booing because A-Rod is paid so much? Or are they wrong because he's "one of ours?"

BTW... Has anyone noticed how quiet it is over on the Red Sox board. No posts in more than 2 weeks. Hmm...

msnicolea

I am anti-boo, although I will boo bad calls.

I've never understood the animosity towards A-Rod. Yes, her left Seattle for a big paycheck--but so have many, many other players. A-Rod didn't create the ridiculous market that is the MLB--who would have turned down that kind of offer?!?!? A-Rod has been, arguably, the best player in baseball over the last 6-7 years--of course he's going to get paid. I feel like he gets blamed for the ridiculous decision the Rangers made.

Johnny Damon left the Sox for more $--so did Pedro. Now I think THEY are nuts--they were beloved in Bean Town and there is no way they will ever be as popular anywhere else. I mean they won the Series for chrissakes--what are they thinking.

Oh yeah--cha ching!
Profesional athletes make obscene amounts of $--that's just the way it is.

I boo people from the comfort of my own home:) My thoughts on A-Rod... I admit, he has irked me lately because he was last years MVP and he has messed up so much this season! He does not seem to be a good clutch player, I feel like almost every time he is in a position to really save the game, he chokes. Now I fully admit that no one is perfect and it must be so much pressure on him to be held to such a high standard (and he has done pretty well) but I just get frustrated because he is getting paid an obscene amount of money to do a job and he doesn't seem to be doing it a lot. (Yes I am a completely unreasonable, obsessed fan, I know:D )

I don't like the booing A-rod gets. I think people are a little over the top in their expectations - like they expect him to be Super-Yankee. (That's Derek's job anyway.) I am a little bothered by all the errors this year though.

I don't get boo-ing in general. I just don't like it, especially not when it's geared to one player. ARod isn't ebven having THAT bad of a year, though his defensive errors are certainly wracking up. I think that has a lot to do with the batting "slump."

I'll say it here and be prepared to take the heat in the "other" thread:

I think Papi might be using 'roids: the size/shape of his head, his body mass, and repeated heart ailments--I think there's a very real possiblity he is juicing, which makes me very sad.

kd 9.21.02
09-05-2006, 08:02 AM
Interesting. I guess it's entirely possible.

What do you guys think of the talk (I heard it more last year I guess) of Papi as AL MVP? Since he's a DH, I don't think he does enough to warrant the talk. I think that in order to be league MVP you need to make major contributions on offense and defense. I know he didn't win the honor last year but even thinking/talking about it seems absurd to me. Just b/c a player is the most valuable asset to his team does not mean he carries the same power in the entire league. Just my 2 cents of course.

msnicolea
09-05-2006, 08:40 AM
I'm against DH's as MVP, as a rule. Play a friggin position already, and then talk to me! They have a HUGE advantage as hitters, not having to take the wear and tear in the field.

There's no excuse for not getting on base until the 7th inning (during Saturday's game).

I'm so disappointed. I guess it does always come down to pitching. With all this talk about getting rid of Torre, A Rod, Sheffield, etc., I really hope they instead put their focus (and their money) on recharging the pitching staff this off season.

msnicolea
10-09-2006, 09:16 AM
So sick of the Yankees buying old superstars instead of putting more effort into the farm system--I mean, Jeter, Williams, and Posada are all Yankee "products"--we need to get back to basics and cultivate our own talent instead of pilfering from the overpaid seniors league. A-Rod can suck on it.

I am just disgusted.

Liz
10-09-2006, 10:04 AM

I think things are coming together (finally). Andy P is so awesome. I just love that guy. And what about the 22 y.o. phenom the other night, Tyler Clipard? AWESOME!

I hate to say it but I've about had it with Moose. What's the name of the other $$$$ pitcher who's been injured for almost the entirety of his contract? C'mon Cashman! CUT HIM LOOSE! We need the young blood like Clippard. Let's build up that talent instead.

People who I just simply adore because they always contribute...
* Derek (of course)
* Hideki (so cluth - all business - he is there to play ball!)
* Jorge
* A-Rod (some people hate him but the guy is a force - I want to see him win a World Series as a Yankee.)

What's the name of the other $$$$ pitcher who's been injured for almost the entirety of his contract?

Do you mean Carl Pavano?

I hope things are starting to turn around. I went to Saturdays game against the Mets and it was awful. The poor pitcher broke his fingers on like the second pitch. What else can happen to this team?

How do you feel about Clemens coming back? I have never liked him, so him coming back does nothing for me.

Matsui- that guy always seems to be on, KWIM?

kd 9.21.02
05-24-2007, 11:20 AM
Yup, it's Pavano. I read today that he's done because he's having Tommy John surgery (whatever that is). I think he gets every penny of his contract. That's ~$8 mm per win.

I'm OK with Clemens coming back but I think his contract is insane and I don't like that he doesn't have to travel with the team when he's not pitching. Doesn't make for much team chemistry.

Matsui- that guy always seems to be on, KWIM?
I most certainly KWYM. ;) He gets his job done. No show-boating, no whining. All the good and none of the bad.

Its a surgery to repair damage to the elbow area. If you Google it you will find many articles about it.

Last night was "Pinstripes in the Park" -- so fun!

They showed the game on the big screen in Bryant Park and there were appearances by some older players like Whitey Ford, Joe Girardi, Dave Winfield, and Nettles. Also, Roger Clemens made a "special" appearance. The first 3,000 at the park received Yankee picnic blankets and they gave out Yankees-Red Sox tickets and free Continental airline tickets every inning. They sold beer and hot dogs and all that stuff.

Yankee fans, as you know, can get rowdy and a little crude but last night's group (all 12,000+) were so well behaved. ;) It was really fun and respectful.

Oh but you know that when A-Rod messed up that out for the Blue Jays the crowd went wild.

SO FUN. Was anyone else there?

Where is everyone? The Yanks are on a 3-game winning streak! While normally that's not a big deal, it is this year.

Who watched last night? A-Rod's grand slam was awesome. And I loved watching the players congratulate Torre. I had to rewind it.

I'm also now addicted to the two Yankee-related blogs on the Daily News site:

Hey! Go Yankees! I went to the game today! They are on a 8 game winning streak!!!

Does anyone know what song A-Rod comes up to home plate to at Yankee Stadium? I know there is the song "This is why I'm hot" but there is another song he comes up to and I can't figure out what it is. If anyone knows, please let me know! I really like it.

After the Angels score in I think the top of the 13th- the announcers come back in the bottom of the inning and announce their "Player of the Game" What's up with that. On the radio yesterday I heard that the veteran pitchers said they would have just walked off the mound during the bug infestation on Friday night but a rookie wouldn't know he has the right. WTF?!?!?!

1) Why didn't someone get Joba off the mound if they felt he had the right?

2) Why didn't a manager or coach say something? Anything?! That game should have been delayed and then this series would be 2-1 Yankees.

It's making me ill to see the photos of Joe, A-Rod and the rest. And now I'm reading about some of our most beloved players moving on.... MO?!?! Mo hasto stay even if he's getting older. He needs to end his career as a Yankee. Same goes for Posada. And I want the same for A-Rod but his agent only considers the $$$. And I don't think Cynthia Rodriguez enjoys the added attention and pressure that comes with playing in NY. But we'll see. Time will tell.

I know it may be time to replace Torre and I'm OK with that if the reins are turned over to another Yankee legend like Don Mattingly. But I don't like the idea of an "outsider" coming in. And I don't want to see Joe with another team. If he no longer manages the Yankees, I hope he retires.

I've never posted in this thread before, but I am a Yankee fan by default. DH has been a huge Yankee fan his entire life. In fact, our first date (I asked him out) was the night they won the World Series in 1996. He says he almost cancelled on me - and he's glad he didn't because I would not have asked him out again!

Anyway, he is so distraught over the possibility of Joe Torre leaving but the only thing that makes him feel a little bit better is the possibility of Don Mattingly taking over. When DH was 7 his Dad took him to a Yankees game. After the game they stuck around to try to see the players. Don Mattingly came out and the crowd pushed against the fence. DH was a tiny 7 year old and was getting crushed against the fence by the crowd and Don Mattingly saw what was happening. He reached over and picked DH up and carried him over to the other side of the fence. DH has idolized him ever since.

It's down to Mattingly or Girardi (from what I'm reading). I really thought Mattingly had it in the bag but then talking it over w/ my dad (lifelong die-hard fan) and reading some reporters' blogs, it sounds like Girardi could get the job. Not sure when they're announcing. They need permission from Selig to announce during the World Series (though that could be over tonight -- hope not though!).

have you heard the rumor that the owners of teh dodgers "talked" to girardi about him coming out thsi way after next season in an effort to rebuild the dodgers?? it's completely unfounded rumor, just wondered if you all had heard it on the east coast?

Girardi is a former Yankee too (he played w/ Derek and Mo). Some are saying Mattingly will be more of the same while Girardi could bring the changes they need. I like them both and won't be disappointed either way.

I had not heard that about Girardi and the Dodgers. I know he spoke with another team earlier in the season but can't remember who. He already one some award for managing (maybe it was something like "rookie manager of the year") when he was with that other team for a year.

I need to head over to the Daily News site to see if there's any scoop on their blogs. I don't know any new details on A-Rod either.

I heart Joba, too. That was an amazing game... I really despise Josh Beckett, so it was nice to see him out-pitched.

And it's not like Josh didn't pitch a great game. He definitely did. But Joba still was better. That's what makes it even sweeter.

I'm not for throwing at players though I know it's part of the game. But if you were Yuk and were actually frightened of getting a potentially-fatal blow to the head, wouldn't you stop crowding the plate? It's not like it's only Joba who brushes him back. He's hit by more pitchers than anyone else in MLB. That says something.

Last night's game was ugly, but a sweep was too much to ask for at this point anyway. Yankees had a great 9-game winning streak and I'm proud of their fantastic performance since the All-Star break.
