Ferris:We were having nap issues about a week ago. He did good this week, though. Hopefully, Dougie will work it out and his napping will even itself out. I hate when Collin falls asleep in the car b/c I know I can't move him without him waking up. :rolleyes:

Naamah:That's so cool that Shylah uses the potty. I've heard that girls are easier to potty train, but i'm sure at this age, you're doing a lot of work! :D I'm not even going to start with Collin until next summer. Definitely PM me when you get all of your business stuff situated. I'll have to go through my supplies and see what I need. ;)

Roseanne,
You're my hero!! I applaud you for your bravery. I wanted to smack those chicks on the Subway for you. LOL! I think it was an interesting segment as well. I haven't seen those ads and agree, scare tactics aren't the way to go. BTW, Asher has gotten so big!! How long ago was that filmed?

December
What anti-breastfeeding ads?
They were pro-BFing ads. They show pregnant women doing dangerous things (like riding an electric bull, etc.) and say something to the effect of "You wouldn't take risks with your unborn child. Why take risks after they are born." Obviously people who FF feel like it's saying they aren't as good of mothers.

Naamah,
Oh no...I can't believe Shylah did it again!! Oils...watercolors...Shylah's favorite method is POOP.

Sophia,
Wow...8/7 is coming up fast! I'm praying all goes well for you. Keep us posted!

Drama
I kind of got the same thing...that someone was having an affair. Posted pics in their journal and everything and apparently got busted. Didn't realize it was with another CC'ers hubby. Dammmmn! That's crazy!! I wish I knew who it was so I could go back and read. I'm nosey like that. LOL!

LIZ~LOL! The sad thing is, there are artisit in which poo is one of their chosen mediums! :eek: Didn't realize it was with another CC'ers hubby. If this is indeed the case, you think with how "close" the CC community is (Naamah knows Liz who knows so and so .................. who knows Naamah), she didn't seriously think she would get caught did she?

Hey, thanks for all the compliments on the 20/20 thing! :D Kim was right--I was out of town until today. Funny how they made it look like they just "happened" upon me nursing Asher on the subway. They blurred out my nip???? :eek: I didn't notice that. I also have to wonder if the shocked/embarrassed looks of people around me were because I was nursing, or because I was nursing while being videotaped. My experience of it? I just sat there and fed Asher (who fell asleep after about a minute) and pretended I was by myself (all the while thinking "what the heck am I doing?!")

If you want to post it on dropshots, be my guest. I'd like to get a hold of a copy myself, so I can see it again.

Okay…Ferris, Julie, Naamah: let’s divide up the journals in 4 parts. Ferris, you take A-F, Julie you take G-L, Naamah you take M-S and I’ll take T-Z. Divide and conquer. ;) j/k

Roseanne,
I didn't notice that. I also have to wonder if the shocked/embarrassed looks of people around me were because I was nursing, or because I was nursing while being videotaped.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Those chicks probably wouldn’t have even noticed you were NIP except that there was a video camera honed in you.

Naamah,
The sad thing is, there are artisit in which poo is one of their chosen mediums!
I don't think there is cause for concern until she does a "painting" of the Blessed Mother. Than it becomes political. ;)

Roseanne, I think it's so neat that you did the segment. For what it's worth, I didn't notice a blurred nip either. I was so busy looking at Asher (I agree with Tom, he's getting big!) that I neglected to check out your rack. Next time! ;)
Yeah, I thought the ads shown on 20/20 were a little harsh but I think the health department (or whoever put out those ads) are trying to fight all the ads that the formula companies are putting out there with the soft music, soothing voice overs and flattering lighting which seems to show the mother and child in a beautiful perfect picture, like they're so close and bonded, all because they chose a specific brand of formula. :rolleyes: I do think it's important to try to change the American public's perception of breast as something other than sexual body parts but there must be a better way to do it.

Frantic to know which journal had the cheating hubby in it. Anyone find it yet? It's probably deleted by now anyway but oooooo, what a great story!

FYI-We are going to find out the sex on August 7 but DH doesn't want to tell anyone. Since I know too many people IRL here on CC, I don't feel comfortable posting the info so I might just offer to PM the info to anyone who reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaally needs to know.

Roseanne & Asher's 20/20 Debut

http://www.dropshots.com/day.php?userid=146622&cdate=20060717&ctime=065059

Its not perfect because I had to record it with my digital camera...a little wobbly in the beginning, but I managed to get the whole segment in there so you all can not only see R&A but also the commercials and commentary.
Enjoy!

PS
Roseanne I'll figure out how to make a good copy for you on tape...

Thank you kimthebride for posting that!!!

Wow, the segment was interesting. But that clip of the pregnant women on the log was really really disturbing. I remember when I was pg I was driving to work and there was this woman who was about 7-8 months pregnant who was rollerblading, trying to cross a 4 lane highway!? :eek:

I didn't notice the blurring when it originally aired either. It wasn't until Kim mentioned it and I rewatched it that I noticed. Roseanne, if Kim can't figure out how to record it I can dump it to a VHS tape if you would like a copy.

Shaaaa! I'm as shocked as the rest of you but if he isn't even willing to tell his own mother, I'm pretty sure I can't wheedle him into letting me post it over here. ;) Honestly, I'm not even that interested in finding out the sex (although that might change as we get closer to the date) so I'd rather we just didn't find out at all and tell people as much. ~sigh~ His sisters are going to have a field day with the fact that we know but are not telling anyone. :rolleyes:

Sophia,
I’m pretty sure we’re not going to find out the gender with #2 either. Keith would kind of like to know, but as of now (okay, we’re not even TTC) I have no desire. I’d kind of like one to be a surprise and I haven’t yet convinced him to go for 3. I agree, it would be harder to find out and not tell anyone than to not find out at all. That’s going to be a tough one.

allyray231
07-17-2006, 10:37 AM
Sophia I totally understand :) Please don't worry about it. I really think with number 2 I don't want to know :)

jmvan74
07-17-2006, 12:57 PM
Sophia: If I couldn't tell, I probably wouldn't want to know either. I can undertand the surprise element in that. Although, we are going to find out the sex, we decided to keep the name secret until birth this time. ;) Well, except for CC. I know one person over here IRL, so really no one would know. She's a good secret keeper.

QOTD- Milk
How many ounces are your DC's drinking per day now? The Ped said DD shouldn't get more than 18 ounces a day, but she still seems to be taking around 20-25.

Milk-ugh, I have to WORK to get maybe 8 oz. a day into Alexa. I give her cheese and yogurt to make up for the calcium shortcomings but she just doesn't like to drink milk. :confused:

The Ped said no more than 16oz a day because more would reduce his desire to eat solds.
Well, it appears that my son could hitch a cow by his side, drink from the tap all day long and still not suppress his appetite. :rolleyes: I'm guessing he drinks about 20ish oz a day plus almost as much solid food as me.

Dinner right now he is eating:
- 1 cup mac&cheese mixed with peas & carrots
- 1 cheese stick
- 1 slice bread with butter
- about 10 grapes (peeled & quartered)
- about 4oz formula

He'll finish pretty much all of this plus have about 4-6oz more formla before bed.

sophiapb
Man you have some restraint! Tom is already arguing with me that he refuses to find out the sex when we have #2. Ummm....sorry, I am no where near patient enough to wait 9 months to find out!

dreshny's blurred nip
I can't stop laughing at the image of about ohhhh 15 or so women staring closely at the clip to see if they can see Roseanne's nip. :D Too funny! I just noticed because I have seen her NIP so many times and you really don't see it unless you are looking for it.

BTW: anyone else have a good chuckle at the woman sitting to R's left? She is in the corner of the subway car covering up her face. Witness protection program or REALLY scared of strager's boobies? ;)

jmvan74

Milk: odd. My ped said to give 17-24oz of milk a day to make sure he's getting enough vitamin D. She said it's been a hot topic in the ped world. Collin takes about 20oz of milk a day. He eats enough solids, so I'm not concerned. The boy loves his milk.:D

kim: That woman had me laughing. I didn't know if it was the NIP or the TV cameras she was hiding from! :D

Dreshny
07-17-2006, 05:12 PM
Heh. Now that I've re-watched the clip, I see that they did blur my nip!! And the woman hiding her face was interacting with Asher just a few minutes before I started nursing him...

Caroline has a great appetite, so I guess I won't worry about it. I was afraid I was ODing my child on Vitamin D or something. :p

Harsh Ads~These honestly annoyed me, even when I was BFing. I understand the point that was trying to be made, but IMO there was just no comparison, for example, between bull riding while pg and feeding your infant formula.

Sophia~Is there anyway he could find out but not you? That way you wouldn't HAVE to keep the secret! :p

Milk~DD gets 8-12oz right before bed. She only likes her milk in a bottle, and we only offer the bottle at bedtime. I'm not worried about calcium intake though because she loves cheese!

LIZ~Soooo cute!! She is walking so well!

Roseanne:Love the clips of you and Asher. He's a little doll. It made me even more excited for our trip to the beach next week! Collin has the same swim shorts that Asher was wearing. :p

I really need to spend more time with my video camera! Then I need to figure out drop shots. :rolleyes:

Roseanne,
I can’t believe how fearless Asher is of the water. Caroline was terrified of the beach when we brought her over Memorial Day Weekend. He’s adorable!!

Naamah,
Thanks! I can’t believe how fast she picked it up. She only took her first step at the end of June.

Julie,
Thanks! Ha, ha! Glad Collin liked the show.

Ally,
Be careful what you wish for. Once they start, there’s no stopping them.

I was pretty surprised myself! Up until maybe a month ago, he was terrified of the park sprinklers, so I thought he'd stay far away from the ocean. Nope! Our kids change so fast, don't they?

He also ate nearly an entire (small) peach this morning. I gave it to him whole, and the thing was decimated. He kept saying "ball" and "mmmm" while he was eating it. :p

Yeah, tgr, DH and I have discussed him finding out but not me but we both know that he'll slip at some point. :rolleyes: It's not a big deal but I just hate having to tell people "Yes, we know but we're not telling." We got enough grief when we wouldn't tell what the names were last time, can you imagine how bad it will be this time with the sex? I would rather just lie and say that we're not finding out or say that the doctor couldn't tell.
Kim, I never thought I'd be the person who didn't want to find out the sex. I couldn't comprehend not wanting to know. :confused: But this time, I just don't care. I just want a healthy pregnancy with a happy end result and anything else is irrelevant.

Hey, Dropshots never works for me. Do I have to open an account to view videos? I'm missing out on all these great things!

LIZNKEITH

Sophia,
No, you don’t have to sign up or anything to be able to view, you must not have the program on your computer that the video is formatted in. Mine is formatted through Quicktime Viewer (Apple), according to DH.

Roseanne,
Very impressed with the breastfeeding video- that one girl looks like she sees the camera and then makes that face. It just makes her look silly. I am so impressed with Asher in that first water video- he's great! Ava would sit at the edge of the water, but kept trying to eat the sand all the time. I love how he splashes his hands in the water.

Naamah,
So sorry about all your diaper, er, painting struggles. Does she wear a onesie type PJ to bed (vs. a nightgown)? Maybe that would help thwart her diaper-removing attempts. I had a friend whose DD always tried to pull her diaper off and run through their house in the buff.

Julie,
I bet Collin will have a blast at the beach. We borrowed a sunshade from One Step Ahead, but will totally be buying one next year. I definitely found it worthwhile!

Ally,
No worries- Aiden's birthday twin is not walking either! Her latest thing is climbing on everything, but crawling is her mode of transportation.

Sophia,
I envy you strong-willed individuals. I will have to find out with each and every pregnancy, the planner in me goes nuts. I sympathize on witholding the name. We honestly didn't have DD's name, but everyone thought we were just keeping it from them. If we can come up with a name next time, I think we'll keep it to ourselves b/c people can really say some rude things. I can't believe it's almost time for your big u/s! Praying for a healthy babe!

Advice Wanted,
For my birthday later this month, DH took DD for a charcoal portrait. Made an appt and conspired with her daycare teachers to falsify her record so I wouldn't notice she was really late one day. Well, anyway, he's not happy with the result. It's very good quality, it just doesn't look like our DD. I think the face is too chubby and round. He had asked the artist if she preferred to work from photo or live subject- she said live was better to capture the expressions, etc. He was so disappointed b/c he thought of this idea on his own and wanted to surprise me. We've shown it to her daycare teachers and emailed pics to my family, and everyone agrees it isn't a good likeness. Someone suggested taking a photo of DD that we like to the artist and seeing if she can alter the portrait a little bit. What would everyone else do?

LIZNKEITH
07-18-2006, 10:23 AM
Maggie,
I would definitely speak with the artist and see if anything can be done. I’m sure your husband spent a good amount of money getting it done so you should be happy with the end result. I’m sure much of her business is based on word of mouth so she’d probably prefer to have you walk away satisfied. What a sweet DH for coming up with such a thoughtful idea and going through such trouble. He must be crushed. :(

Liz- Caroline is so cute! She's an expert at walking and flipping through pages of books! I am impressed

Roseanne- Asher is adorable! dd loves the water as well.

Maggie- That was sweet of your DH. I agree with Liz, talk to the artist.

jmvan74
07-18-2006, 11:21 AM
Maggie: That's such a tough situation. I think I'd talk to the artist about adjusting the picture, but art is such a subjective thing, ya know. It's different than taking a portrait. Gackk. It was such a sweet idea, though.

allyray231

Maggie I agree with everyone else! Talk to her about it!

Liz Love the videos!! :)

Milk He usually gets 8-12 oz of whole milk a day and then breastmilk 2 times a day. However some days he doesn't eat and takes more whole milk. So I figure overall he gets about 20 oz of milk.

We've been out of town for 6 days for a family wedding and mini vacation! We had a great time seeing family including my brother/his wife and their 1 year old, my parents, my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Keri and I got to go on a date, went jet skiing at the lake, and got to relax a lot while family played with Addie. We got home last night and now we're trying to readjust to normal day to day life and catch up on laundry!

Addie just woke up so I don't have much time to catch up, but I'll drop off my favorite picture from the weekend!

Sophia ~ I love the pictures! We have one of those floaty things for the pool for Sarah as well. She's a pro at swimming as well. And it feels so good even the extreme heat we've been having around here. I love looking at Sarah's newborn pictures. I went through them the other day and couldn't believe how small she looked in the pictures compared with how long she is now. It's almost as though it's two different kids.

Nat: What a great pic of Addie and her daddy.

Meri: Sarah looks a lot like you. ;) I love the pic of her screaming with her face all scrunchy. Soo cute.

December: Parker looks adorable. Did she try and grab the water?

Okay, all of the pictures made me want to post one of Collin. I have one of him at my parents house, in the pool with my mom. We need to get a pool.

Oh yeah Parker LOVES the water.She crawled all around the fountain area with older kids running all around her. Shes so fearless. She tried to grab the water and actually SAT on one of the fountains lol She had a ball. Mommy was happy later that night because she was so worn out that she didnt fight going to sleep :)

Well, my EI came back with a vengence. We were over at a friend's house and after dinner my ear just started shooting horrible pain. On top of that, I ended up developing a migraine. :( :( I was supposed to have a dr's appt to get my annual (fun, fun :rolleyes: ), but AF is in town (nice huh?). 14 months!! My little guy was 14 months old yesterday. He is growing so fast that I am starting to want to get pregnant again so I can have a little one!! I guess I only have 10 months to wait till we start TTC again and I think I can wait that long.

Veggies Dougie just started refusing to eat veggies. He used to eat peas, carrot, corn, green beans, asparagas, you name it he ate it. I have tried mixing it with the foods he likes, but he just spits them out and eats the other food. I even tried giving him those dried veggies from gerber graduates and he had 2 bites and that was it. Does anyone have any other suggestion on how I can make sure he's getting his veggies?

Hot My goodness it hot here!! We live in Washington State were the average summer temp is about 76, but the last few days it's been in the 90's. This might not seem like hot to some of you, but it is when you don't have AC! We are roasting!! Today we went on our boat which helped keep us cool and Dougie ran in the sprinklers. He didn't like them hitting his face, but he cooled down fast! It so hot that it's still 85 in our house right now and it's 9:30!! Luckly it's supposed to be back in the low 80's tomorrow.

Lost Well all this talk about Lost, DH and I are going to go rent the DVD's from our friend at blockbuster. I saw about 10 minutes of season 1. I am sure a lot of us missed the show because were we newly pregnant and tired all the time!

Naamah Glad to hear that you are feeling better!! :)

naamah How are you feeling tonight? Are you prone to ear infections? Just asking because I usually hear about kids having them, not adults. Has Shylah had any ear infections?

ferris Happy 14 months to Dougie! I was going to come in and whine that it has been over 100 here all week, but hey, we do have a/c here! I hope it cools down for you soon!

eating veggies Addie seems to have different 'favorites' every week. Right now she is loving peas (the same exact kind that made her throw up 2 times when I pureed them when she was little!), corn, tomatoes, potatoes and a few others. Some days she refuses her favorites which I think is so weird. DH and I were talking about it today and he made the comment that she probably just isn't in the mood for them sometimes. Just like we crave different things on different days-babies probably do too!

LOST DH and I watched all of Season 1 from Wednesday-tonight! :eek: We got hooked and have watched every night after Addie goes to bed. We finished tonight, so now we've got to go and find season 2!
__________________________________________________ _______________

Today we left the house about 9 and ran a few errands for DH and then went clothes shopping. We almost never go shopping but DH needed some new things for the beginning of school and I found lots of things at Old Navy, Gap, and Eddie Bauer on sale. I think I got 3 shirts and 3 capris. I'm so excited! :)

Ferris~Thanks.

Nat~I hadn't had an ear infection in years. I don't even remember when my last one was, and then out of nowhere, I get one at the end of my pgcy that seemed to last forever. And now another one this year. :confused: I hope that pgcy didn't make me prone to them cause this would suck if I had one every summer. Shylah hasn't had a single one, so I'm very thankful for that!

Does anyone have any other suggestion on how I can make sure he's getting his veggies?
Omlettes
Bolognese sauce with blended veggies mixed in
Muffins with veggies in them instead of fruit
Shred steamed veggies and fruit and mix them together - its fun to pick up and he likely won't seperate the shreds (try to keep them of similar color)

Ferris
07-23-2006, 11:34 PM
Kim Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried giving him the same color fruits and veggies at the same time and he just spits out the veggies. :rolleyes: I will have to try the other suggestions. Maybe adding things to his eggs will make him actually eat them. He doesn't like eating eggs.

87 degrees in the house! How can it still be that hot in our house, it's 10:30!!

kimthebride

Ferris
What I was suggesting is a little trickier: use a cheese shredder to finely shred the fruit & veggies and then use your hands to toss them together (picture shredded pizza cheese size pieces). They are so thin they're practically translucent, but a fun new texture to pick up and eat. And its practically impossible to seperate what you don't want to eat. ;)

BabyCenter
Anyone else get the weekly updates on your baby's growth? I was laughing at the one I got this morning, because it basically says 'your 13mo is likely acting like an unpredictable maniac, but that's normal' :p . They suggest scratching the itch to hit, bite and be aggressive (apparently a way to express power & independance in his world) by making 9" square lightly-filled pillows and having mini pillow fights. For some reason I find this really tempting to do!

Cool New Shape-Sorter Toy

DH bought this for DS the other day after the poor thing screamed all the way through his bloodwork:

Little Tikes Discover Sounds Tool Box $12-15
http://www.littletikes.com/productimages/full/f_1609_A_OL.jpg

i wanted a regular shape-sorter for him (can you believe he never had one?!) and this was the least girly one at Kay-Be Toys. It makes sounds when you push each shape through its hole and the 3 colors lights flash. Each shape has a number on it and is a different color, so you can teach shapes, color, numbers and the case works so also open & close, in & out. He keeps going to it over and over. Very happy with this toy!

Veggies Well, I tried adding the veggies to eggs this morning and he took one bite and spit it out. Refused to eat anymore, I think it's because he just doesn't care for the eggs. So for lunch I made him the Bolognese sauce with blended veggies mixed in and he ate some of it! :) I will try the shreded fruits and veggies thing for his afternoon snack!! Thanks Kim!! :)

Shape-sorter toy That's a nice one, I might have to go buy it. We have one for Dougie, but it has way to many difficult shapes, there's a gum ball machine, and street light shape! :rolleyes: It's not a bad price either!!

Allryray231 All I did was take a can of tomato sauce, fried up some lean ground turkey and then chopped up onion, carrots, celery and yellow squash super fine. I mixed it althogether and then served it over whole wheat noodles. If I had planned it better and had more time I would have like to have made the sauce myself. Kimthebride might have a better recipe! :)

Tgr68 Thanks! I think it's so fun to see pic of yourself when you were little doing silly things. We will sure have a lot to show Dougie dates in the future! :p

Toddler gym So we joined the YMCA so Dougie could take swimming classes. They also had a toddler gym class and it was our first day today. He LOVED it!! He played with all the cars, foam blocks, he just ran all over the place for 40 minutes. I however had mixed feelings. It was very clicky. Most of the kids and moms had been attending it together for months and talked to each other most of the time. They only asked me how old he was and commented on how well he was walking already. I guess it's worth being uncomfortable on my part so Dougie can have fun.

Swim Classes So tonight it Dougie first swim class!! It will be the first time he has been in a pool! He has been in the ocean and river many times, but never a pool. He loves water so I hope he enjoys himself. Luckly they had a 6pm class so DH is going to meet us at the pool and do the classes with us!

Hey December, Alexa loves the library too! There is a little half hour music class once a week that my mom takes her too and then they stay and play for a bit. There are huge stuffed animals that you can curl up with and read a book and Alexa climbs all over them. She also loves seeing the other kids and is fascinated by thier hats and shoes (as they are with hers) and they basically just poke and investigate each other after the class. :D Alexa likes seeing the older kids as well and has a blast going through some of the picture books. There have been times when she's thrown a fit when we tried to lleave the library and we ended up staying longer to appease her. I hope this bodes well for her future reading skills and general appreciation of the library.

Okay, I love the photo of Dougie eating his veggie spaghetti but now I'm freaking about the veggie eating thing. Alexa eats everything including spinach, squash, broccoli, green beans, etc. Is this going to stop? I swore I would never have a kid who lived on chicken nuggets and mac n' cheese but it sounds like a toddler's tastes can change at the drop of a hat. Is anyone else dealing with a veggie hater?

Bolognese sauce
Don't ask me! :p I'm a vegetarian who has zero luck in cooking beef, so my friend makes it and splits the batch between us (he DD is 1 month older).

One thing I do also is add diced tomatoes to a can of sauce, put it on low heat, then cook turkey meatballs in there. Once the meatballs are done, I 'dice' those up and mix it all together and toss with ditalini. DS likes to pick out the meat (he is such a meat man!). BUT if your DC is picky, I'd blend it all together in the mixer and add some steamed veggies (carrot, zucchini, squash, even apples to sweeten it up). That would be like a bolognese, right? ;)

Video Camera
We have had a Sonya HandyCam for 3+ years now that uses the MiniDV tapes and are SOOOOOO happy with it! It steadys the picture is you are wobbly, zooms, and the tapes you can buy everywhere. very lightweight and user-friendly.
My SIL got the Sony HandyCam that uses DVDs and hates it. I've heard this from a few people, which suprised me since I thought it would be so much easier. I know there was a camcorder thread on CC somewhere, do a title search and you should be able to pull up a lot of reviews.

As for the videos I post here, I just take them with my digital camera. When I upload pics & videos from my camera to iPhoto (we have a Mac) I can just drop it into DropShots in about 2 seconds. So easy!

How is it even biologically possible that our kids get even CUTER every single day??! :confused: :D Love the pics!

We're walking!!

In the past 2 days Addie has decided that it is time to walk. She started standing up from sitting by herself a few days ago, then she just stood up and clapped and squealed and yesterday she started taking steps! :D Last night after DH got home we made her walk back and forth between us for like 30 minutes. She is so proud of herself and it's too cute!

Allyray231 I just got veggie burgers to try and make sure DS gets them back in his diet. I am not sure if they have a lot of veggies in them, but at least it something.

Videos We use our video camera. Our digit camera with mpeg capabilities broke a few months ago and our new one is a SLR and doesn't have the options.

Swim classes Dougie loved the pool!! Although my DH didn't like singing all the song, he enjoyed spending time with him. While DH and Dougie were swimming I sat on the bench and showed him how to kick his feet when he was on his back and he actually did kicked a few times!! :)

Cross-Posted from my Journal:
I do have some bad news though. We got the results back from Caroline's allergy test and it confirmed that she is allergic to eggs. Dr. C explained that they rate the reaction on a scale from low, moderate, high, and severe. Caroline's was on the low end of the moderate range. So, the possibility having a anaphalactic (sp?) reaction to them is pretty low. But the risk is still there. She said it can improve or get worse at any time. She asked if we had been feeding her food with eggs as an ingredient and I said yes. Given she hasn't had a reaction in that case, she said we can continue. I just can't give her *eggs*. She said we'll try to reintroduce them when she is 3 years old.

My next question was how this would affect her next round of immunizations. She is scheduled to receive the MMR at her next appointment, which is an egg-based immunization. She asked what Caroline's reaction to the egg was and I told her hives. She said given that reaction, we can still proceed, but it will probably have to be administered by an Allergist in small increments to test her reaction.

I'm so completely bummed. When I got off the phone with Dr. C I just cried. What a sh*tty thing to be allergic to. I'm so scared for her. What if someone accidentally gives her eggs at some point? What if her allergy gets worse? I suppose right now it's not too bad since she is still able to eat foods with eggs as an ingredient. But, what if...?

So sorry about the egg allergy, Liz. I bet your allergist could add some good info as well as what the ped told you.

Congrats on the walking, Natalie. Sounds like Addie really progressed quickly once she stood!

Ferris, I love the veggie burger idea! Will def have to try! I am seriously thinking of signing DD up for a Saturday swim class nearby. How many other babies are in Dougie's class?

Well, she's standing! And clapping her hands and occasionally bouncing on her knees. So cute! She's taken a step or two forward, but falls into a crawl immediately so I don't really count this as walking yet, but I bet it won't be too long. We are heading out this afternoon for a mini-vacation this weekend (just the three of us) so should be relaxing!

maggie At the beginning of this week (monday maybe) Addie started standing up on her own and she'd clap and smile....5 days later she's walking 5-10 steps at a time! It's right around the corner! Yeah for Miss Ava!
Liz I'm so sorry about Caroline's allergy. I'm glad you found out about it early though.
hedgegirl Thanks for the vocab lesson!:D

We're leaving Sunday for another mini vacation to Austin. DH has his coaching convention and he likes us to go with him. Liz Sorry about Caroline's egg allergy, but it's good that she can still have then cooked in other foods!!

kelseyledare Yeah for the standing!! :) There are about 10 other kids in his class. However, some days they all show up and others they don't. We really don't do much in the class, it's just getting him used to the water. The 2 things they have to do before moving on to another class is being dunked (head first) underwater without crying and holding on the wall for 5 seconds. He can already do both! :)

Veggie burgers Well don't buy the amy brand ones. They are horrible! I won't even eat them. I am even seriouly thinking about taking them back to costco. I going to stick to the garden burgers, he actually had about 3 bits of one of them!!

Camping So we went camping this weekend with my sister and her family. we wanted to see how the kiddies would do, so we went camping at the state park 5 minutes from our house. The boys loved it!! We are already planning on another camping trip in a few weeks to the beach.

But OMG did they get dirty!! Here is Dougie 5 minutes after we got there!!

Maggie:Ava will be a speed demon before you know it. It's a whole new world.

Ferris: Those pics are so adorable. Corn on the cob, huh? May have to give it a whirl.

Beach: We had a good time, but it was super hot and we couldn't go in the water b/c of jelly fish. :( I forgot my camera, the one day we were at the beach and have no pics of Collin playing. boo hoo. Collin ended up with an ear infection at the end of the week, so we were happy to get home.

Julie~Hope Collin's ear infection goes away quickly!

This past weekend, we took DD along with some kids from the library to the Tulsa Zoo. They all had sooooooo much fun! I did learn however that DD only finds zoos so-so, but she LOVES aquariums. Her favorite part by far were the sharks! :eek: She had her face pressed right up against the glass, and one of the sharks swam over and came nose to nose with her. She loved it! All the other little kids would cry or back off when the shark came near, but DD would cry when it swam away! LOL! Just like her mama! :p (I've always wanted to swim with sharks.) The room was very crowded though (feeding time), so I wasn't able to get any pics of her with the sharks, but I did get a few at a couple of the other aquariums they had there!

Nammah ~ love the photos of shylah!! Sounds like she loves fish!

Ferris ~ Dougie is such the cute little guy! Glad he had so much fun camping and congrats on 2nd grade! Seems like a fun age to me.

Natalie ~ Hope you have a blast in Austin. I've always heard such good things about that city, and several of my friends from Chapel Hill moved there.

Liz ~ I would say "boys, boys," but on a bad day, Ava can look almost that disheveled just from DC.

Well, your predictions ring true... we have a walker! Took a few steps on Friday night and then by Sunday, was walking 4-5 steps consistently. She still prefers to crawl for speed, but will always walk several steps if you stand her up now. It is so much fun to watch her go!

Welcome back, Julie!! Poor Collin. I hope his ear feels better soon. :(

Naamah,
Love the pics! I’m chomping at the bit to take Caroline to the new aquarium in Atlanta. Kiddies really seem to love the fishies. I keep hoping Maggie will come out this way so we can bring the girls.

Congratulations, Ferris!! I think 2nd grade is a great year. You should have a lot of fun with them.

Maggie,
Congratulations on a walker!! I told you it wouldn’t be long at all. It’s crazy how quickly they pick it up after they find their center of gravity. LOL at the daycare comments. On a regular day when I pick C up from dc she’s got crusted up food all in her hair, stains on her clothes, and a crusty nose. I always tell her she looks like nobody’s child. Sometimes, it’s really embarrassing when I have to go to the grocery store. :rolleyes: Is your birthday today? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Hee hee…Keith and I were reminiscing Friday night at our weak attempt to celebrate our anniversary last year. We were both doubled over remembering me having to pump in the Yukon the whole way to the restaurant, and the whole way back. Memories….

Caroline was such a grump last night. I seriously can’t remember the last time she was so grumpy. DH was late getting home and I called his cell like a raving lunatic, demanding to know where he was. She was so clingy, I couldn’t even make dinner, so I just had Keith pick up some Chinese on the way home. I think it was a combination of being hungry and a new sleeping arrangement at dc. She’s always had her own crib, but they decided to switch to mats in her room (Maggie, I know Ava’s dc does this as well, right?). I think it’s a tough adjustment for her. They said she napped for over 2 hours, but I’m wondering what the quality of her sleep was. I’m sure she’ll get used to it, it will just take time.

Ferris: Congrats on 2nd grade! If I go back to work in the classroom, I'd love 2nd grade. :D I taught 1st for 3 years and I was ready for a change. It's rough.

Naamah: We keep putting off our trip to the zoo or aquarium. Something always seems to come up. *sigh* Glad to hear the kids had a good time. Love the pictures of Shylah with the fish! hehe. We have a 90 gallon salt water tank and Collin loves his fishies. ;)

Maggie: Hooray for Ava! Before you know it, she'll be running around the house like a maniac! Then comes the bumps and bruises! LOL! My child looks like I take a stick to his legs! :p I remember celebrating my anniversary last year with a 6 week old. We didn't go out. I made a nice dinner and Collin was nice enough to sleep through it. :D
Happy Birthday!

Liz: I never even noticed that our anniversaries are 4 days apart! July is a great month. ;) Sorry Caroline was such a grump. Collin has been excessively clingy lately, too. (even before the EI). He follows me around with his arms out, whining. Uggh.

Sick baby: I took Collin to the ped for a follow up and it looks like his ears are clear, but now he has a lovely cough. My baby can't win.:( To make it worse, Jason feels horrible and I'm heading down hill. ahhhhh. Being sick in the summer stinks. Especially since it's going to be 100 degrees and we can't get any fresh air.

Ferris~Thanks!! Congrats on the 2nd grade position! How exciting for you!

Maggie~Thanks! Congrats on Ava walking!

LIZ~I really need to find an good aquarium that's not too far away. Being land-locked though will make it tricky. ;)

Julie~You've got mail! ;) Poor Collin. Sorry to hear about the cough. :(

Not much going on here. I've pretty much blew the entire day setting up my LAUNCHcast radio station. :rolleyes: I did manage to get the dishes done, a load of laundry washed and dried (will fold when the dryer buzzes) and some of the disaster area that is our dining room picked up. I really need to be more productive. Maybe I'll go do a FlyLady mission.

Ok, I assume I am just being daft, but..

...is whole milk binding?

I feed Thomas plums and fruits and whole grain breads etc and yet he's been a bit constipated, making real verbal and physical effort to poop. I'd say he's almost constipated, and the other night he definitely was. The only thing I really changed was that he's almost all weaned off formula and onto whole milk.

Gave him apricots & plum a breakfsat, and he pooped 3x today. Hope thats helping!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, everyone! We had a nice time at dinner and then DD enjoyed tearing at the wrapping paper on my gifts. I think she's gonna like Christmas presents better this year. ;) I'm just still amazed that a year has gone by... I remember exactly what life was like this time a year ago.

Kim ~ Yup, I've totally heard that cow's milk can be binding. Glad the fruit helped him out this morning, poor guy.

Naamah ~ dishes, laundry, dining room... sounds pretty productive to me!

Julie ~ Poor Collin, sorry he is sick again. I'm totally impressed by your 90 gallon tank. I never could even keep a goldfish alive for very long :o

Ally ~ I hear ya on the clingy phase- I keep reminding myself that it's her way of demonstrating positive attachment

Sorry, too tired for a real post. I was away with my ILs for 5 days.

But Julie, where were you at the beach? I thought of you this weekend. We were at Rehoboth Beach, DE, and there were tons of jellyfish there, too!

NO WAY!! That is where we were!:D We left Saturday morning. That is too funny.

Naamah: That doesn't sound like a wasted day to me! I think you got more done yesterday than I do in a week! LOL!

Kim: I've heard that whole milk can be binding, but it doesn't seem to have that effect on Collin. It sounds like the fruit got things moving for you.

Maggie: Glad you had a nice time at dinner. I can't take credit for the fish tank. DH is the caretaker there. ;)

Well, Collin is still coughing and kept waking himself up last night. :( I'm also starting to feel a scratchy throat coming on. Blahhh.
Oh yeah, I can't beleive I forgot to report.... Collin has finally started to wave!! It only took 13 months! He's not real consistent, but he did wave bye to some people at the DR.' s office on Monday. :D

Yeah, it is. While Caroline hasn’t actually gotten constipated, I’ve noticed Caroline’s poops are a lot firmer than they used to be. She really has to strain to get one out. Sounds effects, the whole nine yards.

Julie,
Poor Collin! I hope he feels better soon! So cute that he’s waving. He was just keeping you on your toes. ;)

Okay…how crazy that Roseanne and Julie were in the same city and didn’t know it. What a bummer! You two could have had a GTG.

Yeah, Julie and I overlapped. I was there Friday through yesterday.

Hey, I knew you lived in DE, but I didn't know if you were anywhere close to Rehoboth, or I would have PMed you before I left. I did think about it, but I was there with a whole bunch of Dan's family and I didn't want to be rude. Also, I don't drive ( :o ), so Dan would have had to chauffer me to you.

We live in MD now, but I still like the DE beaches. Friday was our bad day anyway. We took Collin to the ER in Lewes, DE b/c he was inconsolable. :( Luckily, it was an EI and nothing too serious. Were you able to get in the water while you were there?

How neat that Julie and Roseanne were at the same beach! I've never heard of such a jellyfish problem! Is that common at Northern beaches or have I just been lucky?

Well, Ava got her first pair of real shoes, the Stride Rite Addie (a stage 2 cruiser). I was planning on a walking sandal, but she couldn't raise her foot with the weight and couldn't walk. Plus she still crawls maybe 75% of the time so the stage 2 have a toe guard to protect the shoe. I guess we'll try for a walker shoe next time when she outgrows the Addie.

http://www.zappos.com/images/722/7229234/985-240462-d.jpg

I picked Ava up from DC early today and watched her in "music" class - it was soo cute! She was sitting with about four other toddlers, clapping her hands with the music teacher and playing with a little maraca. It was so sweet to watch her interacting with the teachers and enjoying herself!

Maggie,
Love the shoes! Ava is going to be the most stylin' toddler in the class. I told you the Size 3's were really heavy. The first step Caroline took in them, she fell forward. We had to go straight to a Size 3 though as once she started walking, that became her primary mode of transportation. I was just thinking this morning how much I miss the slap-slap of her little hands on the floor as she crawls around the house. :(

Maggie and Julie~Thanks. I often feel like if I don't spend a lot of TIME doing something, then I haven't been productive.

Dreshny and Julie~LOL!! Too funny! That would've been a great GTG!

LIZ~Okay, the sound effects comment made me chuckle. Poor thing, though, having to work that hard.

Julie~Sorry about Collin. He's just had it rough here lately, hasn't he?

Maggie~Cute shoes! I agree with LIZ--I would've just burst from the cuteness!

Not much here. I feel like I've been on the phone all day getting ready for thw scrapbooking workshop I'm helping to host this weekend. I feel so unprepared, but hopefully I'll get some good sales out of it! :cool:

Shylah's been working on her walking. She's still soooooo much more comfortable with crawling at this point, but she's getting braver! Her temper tantrums have seemd to just explode these last few days. In fact, just a little while ago, she bit me and left marks! :eek: I swatted her and told her "no" very firmly. After she quit crying (all of 30 seconds later), she gave me a hug (that's how she apologizes since she can't yet give a verbal apology) and then got down to play.

All of a sudden he'll stop moving and go MMRRRRRRohhh ERRRRRRAAAAHHHoooohhhhh so I'll just start gathing up the diaper, wipes etc. :D

I'd bet her tamtrums are because she's frustrated with not being a 100% walker yet, or exhaustion from all the effort it takes to be braver. Kind of like a I'm just so darn close! frustration. :p

kelseyledare
Those shoes are SOOO CUUUUTE! I find the sandles Thomas has are a bit heavy. Hm. Maybe his next ones should be a bit lighter, didn't know they had that sneaker/sandal option.

Sorry to hear Collin wasn't feeling well. We did get into the water briefly on Sat. before the jellyfish invasion. And we were there Sunday, too. Hmmm, I could swear I heard a mom call "Collin!" on the beach, but you know, could've been another Collin (or Colin.) :D

Liz: If you let Caroline walk barefoot in the house, you'll still hear a "slap-slap."

We hear a lot of "slap-clunk" because Asher crawls with something in one of his hands.

Thanks for the update, Meri!

congrats Hub! Welcome Mia!

Maggie, those shoes are adorable! My heart would've melted at the music scene. Awwww.. I always catch Collin dancing and singing and it is so precious.

Naamah: We've got temper tantrums over here, too! :eek: Man, my boy can scream. If he doesn't get his way, he crouches down and starts screaming! If I try to put him in his highchair or stroller and he doesn't want to go, he writhes and arches his back and screams bloody murder. Kid got my temper.:o I hope it passes quickly. Have fun getting ready for your workshop. :)

Ally: Sorry about the sleep issues. I think it's going around. *sigh*

Poop sounds: Collin use to make a lot of noise, but lately he's been sneaky about it. I do notice he'll walk off to the side of the room and stand still or crouch down! LOL! There are only some little grunts, though.

Kim~Could be that. All I know at this point is that it is wearing on my nerves. :(

Poop Sounds~DD usually doesn't make any sounds. In fact she "excuse herself" to a corner of the room and (if you can see her) her face will get bright red. I usually try to catch her en route to get her on the toilet.

Hub~Congrats on your newest edition!!! Welcome to the world, Mia!!

Tantrums~I was talking to my sis the other day, and she said that her DD (just turned 2) has thoroughly perfect the in store tantrum. I heard the whole thing on the phone. Niece wanted my sis to carry her, and sis gave her the option of walking or sitting in the cart. My niece, I guess, threw herself on the floor and started kicking and screaming. :eek: Sis hung up the phone and called me back saying that niece had "agreed" to ride in the cart for the remainder of the trip.

Poop sounds- dd grunts and her face turns red. Lately I've noticed she 'squats' while she poops.

Tantrums- I could've written Tgr68's post re her sister's phone call. dd throws tantrums a lot. Ugh!!! She does the exact same thing at the store, she wants to be held and its too hard because shes so heavy, I put her in the cart and she screams her head off. She does the same thing when I try to put her in her highchair or stroller as well. No fun!

Welcome to the world, Mia! Congrats to Hub, Hub's hubby and big sister, Rhiley!

Crawling-I have to admit that I miss Alexa's crawling. I think kids are so adorable with the little butt wiggle. I took some videos of Alexa crawling around a couple of months ago since I knew that the phase wouldn't last long and I wanted to immortalize the wiggle.

Teeth-WOAH! Alexa has three new teeth. :eek: The molars after the canine teeth (not sure if there's a term for them) are almost fully through and we didn't even notice! The only one that still needs to come in is the lower left, the other ones are in. I was poking around in her mouth a couple of weeks ago, thinking that she hadn't cut any new teeth in a while and I swear there was nothing there. Now, it's almost like overnight these full molars appeared! I'm blown away.

Congrats Hub!

We just returned yesterday from a few days in Austin. We had a great time. Addie and I went to the neatest Children's Museum and we also found a great park that we went to twice while Keri was at meetings. Tuesday we went to a friend's lakehouse near Austin and Addie went on her first boat ride and went swimming in the lake. DH slolamed (sp??), wakeboarded, and tubed. That man could live at the lake! :p Overall it was a great trip. Addie slept so well at the hotel and was happy the majority of the time, even though she went to bed late most nights!

I had to stop by and share Addie's latest trick. Sometimes she gets to share an apple with me and she has always thought it was so cool. Today she decided she was big enough to hold the apple on her own! Here's a picture and video of her chomping down!
FYI-I was sitting right beside her the whole time monitoring bite sizes and I also took the peel off the area she was eating off of. FYI #2-it looks like she has a dirty diaper, but its really a yellow cloth diaper under her diaper cover! :)

Nat: Very cute video of Addie. DS likes to go into the refrigerator and has been known to pull out fruit and start eating it (plums, apricots, etc). He only ate the seed of a plum once. Oops, bad mommy :o

We hear a lot of "slap-clunk" because Asher crawls with something in one of his hands.

I looooove that sound too. DS often crawls with one half of the Leap Frog animal fridge magnets (leaving them all over the house) or a plastic hockey stick he has.

Tantrum: We got our first major tantrum earlier this week. DS had snagged the soy sauce out the the fridge and I asked for it back (he gave it to me) and I proceeded to put it back in the fridge and close the door which set DS off on a screaming fit for like 15 minutes. Whenever I tried to go over to console him he just crawled away from me and put his face against the floor and screamed even louder. I don't look forward to the day he does one in public.

LOL! Ohhhh, I shouldn't laugh, but at least I know it's not just my son! He always bends over and puts his head to the floor while he screams. I've found that ignoring him and walking away ends the fit sooner than trying to console him, ykwim?

Nat: You're so funny prefacing your picture with the diaper info! LOL! I doubt any of us would assume you left your child in a dirty diaper! hehe. BTW....I have a bunch of flushable diaper liners from when I tried cloth diapers (for a week). If you are interested PM me and I'll mail them to you.
Addie is adorable as usual!

Sophia: Collin's getting those teeth now....only he's not such a trooper about it! :cool: Once they finish coming in he'll have 10 teeth! I can't wait for there to be 20, so he'll stop fussing. hehe!

December: The tantrums are no fun.;)

BIG QUESTION... BIG ISSUE...
Anyone still losing hair??? I'm still losing clumps like it's going out of style. I don't think it's normal... anyone??? My recent tests from my doc shows my progesterone is low, we're doing another round of tests next month. That could mean hard to get preggo again or easy miscarriage... dunno. I'm trying not to get worked up over it and see what happens.

tantrums - hedge, sorry to hear it. it's happening here too! I think ignoring DS works best, it's over faster. plus I figure there's no reward for that behavior. and yes, in public is awful. at home he buries his head on the floor rolling around - so dramatic! we actually can't help but to laugh and hide our faces. :P

Ferris
08-04-2006, 03:04 PM
Golfer Girl I never really lost much hair, so I am not sure what is normal!! If your progesterone is low the doc can give you stuff to take before getting pregnant and during to increase the chances of not miscarring. We do the same thing with Dougie and his tantrums, we can't help but laugh!

Nat Great pics and video if Addie. I am going to have to try and give him a whole apple now! :)

Tantrums Yep, we got them here! Today when I would not let him play with the phone he threw himself on the floor and started hitting his head on the carpet!!:eek: Later at the zoo he arched his back and screamed when I put him back in his stroller after looking at the sharks! I could go on and on! Somedays he has them and other he doesn't, but I just make sure I stand my ground and not give in. I don't want to be one of those parents that always gives in and the kiddos act out just to get what they want. I worked at Baskin Robbins when I was in high school and I got to witness may a trantrums for more ice cream! Most parents gave in so their children would get upset!:rolleyes:

Peanut Butter? I am wondering what your ladies Doc's said about Peanut Butter. Mine said not to give it to DS until he is 3! So instead of Peanut Butter we have been giving him almond butter (which is way expensive!). When did your doc say it was okay for them to eat PB?

Sophia ~ Glad the teeth didn't seem to be a problem when they came in. I'm hoping the next round for us will be easy.

Hub ~ Congrats on the new little one!

Tantrums ~ Usually only when she is tired. We had to run to the store the other night to get a few things and she was extremely tired. Should have done it earlier but at the time I didn't feel like going anywhere as I was pretty sick. Anyway, DD didn't want to ride in the cart and only wanted me to carry her. That was fun. My back was killing me about halfway through the trip so I had DH take her. That preceeded to get some screams but then it was okay as long as I wasn't beside them.

Diane ~ Have they checked your thyroid levels? That was something I had happening when my levels weren't normal. My hair still sort of falls out but thankfully it isn't as much as it was before. Hoping the new meds (as I'm now hypo instead of hyper) start kicking in sometime really soon. Even with my condition I was at a higher risk for an miscarriage because my levels weren't normal. Hope it's something that they can easily treat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally got the shots issue solved/resolved. We were able to get them yesterday. When we went in the nurse said that it was just too big of a hassle/ordeal so she just said let's order some and if we lose money on the deal so be it. She apologized many times for it but we said it wasn't her fault. Even the clinic that has an agreement with the health department (and who they recommended we call) wouldn't do it without having to be set up as a new patient and transfer to one of their doctors. We said no, that we were quite happy with our doctor and we weren't going to switch.
So DD got 5 shots total yesterday. This was her last big round until kindergarten. She cried but after it was all over everything was fine. She even cried before she got stuck with the MMR injection. I felt sorry for her but I know it was done to protect her. No reactions so far and you wouldn't even know she had shots yesterday if we didn't tell.
DH asked at the 12 month WBV and he said not to give it to her until she was at least 2. He said before that and they could have allergies to peanuts.
I have to keep an eye on DH's grandma or she would have already given her a peanut butter cookie at least a couple of times by now. Along with pop. It's bad enough that she usually gives her a small (about half the size of a normal) ice cream sandwich when we go to visit. We have given her small (and I mean small) amounts of vanilla ice cream but it definitely had no chocolate or anything else added in.
Today was DH's last day off before school starts so he took Addie on some errands and then met his mom for lunch....that's right I had the morning to myself! :D I did some cleaning and ran a few errands. Addie is taking a late nap and DH and just woke up from taking one too!
tantrums I wouldn't say Addie has had a tantrum yet, but she is starting for voice her displeasure more now. Anytime she sees a cell phone or a remote she wants it and it is really hard to distract her and move her on to playing with something else. confession: Sometimes I let her play with our cell phones and last week she pressed some buttons and called a coworker of DH's! OOPS! I hung up as soon as I saw what happened but wouldn't you know he called right back. I was so embarrased but I told him what happened and he understood-he has three kids.
meri I could have written your post That preceeded to get some screams but then it was okay as long as I wasn't beside them. This is so my life! Addie wants me all the time, but if I stay in the other room or as far away as possible she will let DH hold her. :rolleyes:
Peanut Butter~I had always read that it shouldn't be given until at least age 3. I did give DD a smal bit of a cookie that had peanut butter in it though. She hasn't had any since, nor do I plan on giving her any more in the near future.
Meri~Glad DD is feeling okay after all of her shots!
Tantrums: Yeah, I actually found the whole tantrum thing more amusing than anything else. I tried ignoring him but he kept coming over to me to make sure he had at least some of my attention. What actually seemed to calm him down quickest was to go get his big Elmo (the same big one Kim posted Thomas pushing in his doll stroller in the MayJune thread). I told DS Elmo wanted to give him a hug. He was much more open to getting a hug from Elmo than Mom and it helped him calm down.
Phones: Brady is in looooovve with the telephone. Whenever he sees my cell phone he gets really vocal and mad if I don't give it to him. Needless to say, it makes it difficult to have a conversation sometimes. I used to be able to give him an old cell phone to play with while I talked, but that isn't worked so well anymore. We've had to move one of our landline phones so that he can't get to it anymore (and I've got one more I need to move now since he can reach it now and often will go help himself to it). He has placed a few phone calls too from my cell...fortunately I've been able to hang up before anyone answers and nobody has called back yet (but the calls have been to friends or family who would get a kick out of it).
Peanut Butter, our doctor didnt say, but we have no family history. My daycare gave her p.b. & J without me knowing and thank god she had no reaction, all was fine.
Tantrums, we have those too, but mostly when she needs a nap or it involves some sort of seperation from mom.
Hair Loss
Count me in! I haven't talked to my Dr. yet, but I probably should get some blood work done. It's out of control. A couple of weekends ago, DH pulled something out of our shower drain that beared a strong resemblence to Cousin It. So gross!
Peanut Butter
I see an allergist from environmental allergies. The last time I saw him, he asked some questions about Caroline's diet. Kind of free advice for her. He said it's okay to introduce everything by age 12 months, with the exception of Peanut Butter which shouldn't be introduced until after age 3. Our Ped on the other hand said age 2. I think we'll be taking a conservative route here, especially since DD was diagnosed with an egg allergy which makes her more susceptible to other allergies. Even though it didn't show up in her allergy tests, it scares the crap out of me. I'm in no rush.
Tantrums
Not yet, but I can see it happening in the very near future. She sudden;y has very little patience. She'll start screeching the second she picks up a book, like she's afraid we won't read it to her. :rolleyes: No patience at all.
Beth,
Love the video! Emma can shake it! LOL!
BAM
You can tell Emma that Justin Timberlake makes me want to shake it too. ;) So funny! I love it!!
Peanut Butter
My Ped said still not yet, and we have no nut allergies in either family. I think maybe 2 years???
Tantrums
They only last a few seconds and make DH & I laugh. He just goes all Sybil on us for about 5 seconds, then gets over it. Nuts!
Phones
We have seriously about 5 toy phones. The more lights & noises, the better.
Hair Loss
ITA about checking into your thyroid. DH's family has a history of thyroid issues, and hair loss in on almost every symptoms list.
Natrat
Addie looks so much older than her age! Big girl! :)
QOTD: Poop (everyone's favorite topic)
DS's poop is now looking like Cocoa Puffs more frequently than I'd like it to. He has whole grain waffle & breads daily, fruit at least 3x a day....when would you all consider it as something to talk to the Ped about? Should I give him more water each day and see if that makes it better? His 15mo WBV is in 4 weeks.
HedgeGirl
QOTD: Thanks for the visual Kim ;) Are you still having all the heat back there? When we were having our heat wave, we tried to be more diligent about the amount of water DS drank. On days when we are on the go, I also struggle to get enough water into DS and myself.
kimthebride
Aha! Good thinking hedge! :) I will ply him with water and see what happens...it got alllll the way down to 88 degrees this weekend, so its cool by comparison. But still hot to me! I think I am just so focused on the milk transition still that I am not doing enough water.
At this point I just hope Cocoa Puffs turn into Hersey Kisses for now then eventually peanut butter fudge by the end of the week. ;) (thought you'd like that)
Big Walker
Thomas walks all the time now! Here he is at the park today:
Bam: Emma's adorable getting her little groove on. :p
Kim: Look at Thomas go! Is he always good about keeping his hat on? Some days Collin will have no problem wearing his and other days he's tearing it off is head. :rolleyes:
QOTD: I'd say try to add more water before becoming too concerned. I know DS has some nuggets yesterday, but we gave him extra water today and we're back to the mushier stuff. He really likes lemon in his water. hehe.:D
Dreshny
Hats: We cannot keep a hat on Asher. He immediately screams and tries to rip it off. Consequently, he has a tan, despite the fact that I coat him in sunscreen and try to keep him in the shade. :rolleyes: I really hope he'll be more amenable to wearing a hat, come winter.
Just finished off a big bowl of icecream and must let it digest before I go to bed...so I'm on CC! :D
We had a great weekend. My parents came into town. Addie loves my parents and she had fun showing off her new walking skills.
hats I can keep one on Addie if it ties of snaps on. She still pulls at it, but can't get it off by herself yet!
poop Kim, I'd try more water too. Also, I think some babies have that kind of poop all the time. One summer in college I worked at a Child Dev. Center and there was one baby that always had little poop nuggets. :rolleyes:
bam I love the video of Emma dancing! What a cutie!
kim The video of Thomas is adorable. That looks like a cool park.
phones Addie loves cell phones especially. She's actually made a few phone calls too! :o
Today I've been working on making baby bows and getting ready for my PT job that starts next week. I just made DH pull out all my school boxes from the attic so I can prepare my lessons. I'm getting excited about working again!
phones we have I think 5 phone toys. It is insane
hats I can sometimes get him to keep one on and sometimes not.
poop Kim I would say more water and he might just be getting used to the whole milk. It took Aiden a long time to get used to it.
My kid is totaly cranky the past few days. I have no idea what is going on! Maybe more teeth but I hope not! We just got 4 new ones in the past month!
long time.
DH and I went to Vegas for our 4th anniv (last Thurs) and had a great time, thought it was hard for me to separate from Ben. He did great and the reunion was amazing..nothing like being loved unconditionally from a 14 month old!! My parents and DH's mom watched the baby at 2 nights each.
I am get lagged (3 hrs) but have my playgroup coming over soon (and my cleaning lady here) so gotta run..i have to go back and catch up on this thread.
Nat,
I think I forgot to comment on Addie eating the apple. I can’t get over how good she is at maneuvering that thing!!
Kim,
Thomas is really getting around the playground. I love the little side-step thing he does in the beginning. He’s stealing my heart!
Mrs. Chappy,
Happy Belated 4th Anniversary! Glad you had a good time in Vegas. I love the videos!! That first one of Benjamin laughing is hysterical!!
Hats
She hates them. The ones that attach under the chin will stay on her, but she screams like a holy terror. It’s not worth it to me, or those around her, so we just keep her in the shade. I really should work on it some more. I can’t keep her in a bubble forever. :rolleyes:
Phones
Any one got any good recommendations? After trying to steal ours all the time, we bought her this one by The First Years:
http://www.thefirstyears.com/products/images/large/2107.jpg
It hasn't been much of a hit with her.
MrsChappy: Adorable clips of Ben!
Nat: I didn't even realize you were going back to work PT. Will you be teaching?
phones: Collin loves phones, too. Whenever i get on the phone he follows me around and tries to push the buttons! He also loves the laptop...yikes.
MrsChappy Happy Anniversary! I love the video clips of Ben! What a cutie!
liz no recs for phones here-Addie likes the real thing :rolleyes: Oh and yeah, Addie is really good at eating that apple. She likes to hold bananas too!
julie Yeah, I'm teaching 4 year olds at a Mother's Day out. It's Tues/Thurs 9-2. Addie will be in the 1 year old class down the hall. I'm excited about some time apart from Addie and I know it will be really good for her. I'm nervous though. It's at a church that I know very little about, so I'm just praying that Addie's teacher is good. The past few weeks here there have been about 4 stories of day care/ home child care deaths, so I'm being paranoid! :o
I know I just posted some pictures, but how cute is this? We went to the store and I happened to have the camera in my diaper bag. My mom was with us so she took the pic.
http://www.dropshots.com/photos/103526/20060805/201416.jpg
It would be even cuter if we weren't right by the pads and tampons! :D
Natalie ~ Love the photo- so cute! Would not have noticed it was the tampon/pad section if you haven't mentioned it. ;) Your new job sounds like a lot of fun for both you and Addie.
Liz ~ No recs for phones here either, but I think the babes like the smaller, flip ones better. I've seen a toy one like that somewhere... must think where.
Julie ~ Sorry about Collin's teeth. Ava is drooling a lot these past few days so I'm wondering about teeth. But she's taken a recent aversion to oral care so even brushing her teeth is a struggle right now- she'll never let me feel her gums for teeth. When is your big U/S?
Mrs. Chappy ~ Happy Belated Anniversary!
Has anyone started thinking about Halloween costumes? I've had my eye on the Hershey's kiss from One Step Ahead. The kiss is a tunic that goes over some regular clothes which I like since it's still so hot down here on Halloween. She could wear shorts and a tee shirt underneath. The hat, of course, will be another story... :cool:
Nat: That sounds like great job! As soon as I get my car back from the garage... I'll get those diaper liners out to you. ;)
Maggie: I love that Hershey Kiss. My friend's little boy had that costume last year. Soo cute. I've been eyeing a Monkey in the One step Ahead catalog...the one with the banana peel hat. hehe. :D We don't have the u/s scheduled yet. I have my 16 week appt. this week and am hoping we get to schedule it.
Julie ~ Wow! 16 wks! It's amazing how fast this pregnancy seems to be going by- it seems like you just joined the RO list a little while ago!
Was your friend pleased with the quality of the costume? I've never bought any of their clothes before. Not to tempt you, but the monkey costume is on sale right now- it's adorable!
Halloween Costume Last year we (mostly my mom) made the skunk costume for Dougie. This year I am leaning towards the lion, but he loves the elephant and monkey at the zoo so I am not sure which one we are going to make. I think the elephant might be to much for him to have on his head though!
Hats
Most of the time he'll keep it on if I velcro the strap on just right (not too tight, not too loose). Thank goodness, since he's in the thin-blond-hair camp with me and our heads burn easily!
Phones
I have that one and about 3 others I rotate. I find if its "new" to him, he takes more interest. He has:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/kidsurplus_1907_35388749
and it seems to be his favorite. The buttons do different things, and he likes flipping it open.
My friend has the really real looking one from Pottery Barn Kids and he goes NUTS over it - its black and very realistic, lights up etc. I need to get one of those this weekend.
Costume
Still deciding!
Mrs Chappy
Happy Anniversary!
Natrat
So cute! I love the maxi pad sign behind your head, lol. ;)
The park is actually pretty cool! They have a whole block that is a park with different sections in it: completely gated in baby park (where he was) with rubberized ground, toddler section, basketball courts, dog run, etc. Its a great place to go!
liznkeith
We call the side-step his Drunken Sailor Walk. :D Cracks me & DH up to no end...
Maggie:I'll ask my friend about the costume. I know she had like 3 costumes b/c she couldn't decide! It looks well made, but you never can tell. ;)
Ferris: I remember Dougie's costume! Soo cute. I like the elephant, too. :p It is a lot on the head, though.
Kim:
So he found that he can pick his nose. Anyone else have a classy kid? Lol! He can REALLY get that finger up there FAR!
OMG! LOL! Collin has not yet discovered this skill. :D
Signing: Collin finally started to mimic the "more" sign yesterday! Finally! After months of showing him. It's so cute.
So much has been going on here in the last couple of days it seems!
BAM~Emma is so cute shakin' her thang!
QOTD~DD has been having random hard poops as well. When I notice it, I try to give her more water. It's been so hot here, though, so it's been tough keeping her thoroughly hydrated.
Kim~Cute video! In honor of Thomas's new talent: Nose Digger (http://www.flowgo.com/index.cfm?action=view&id=12615&scid=10176) ;)
Hats~The only time we can keep a hat on DD is if it has a strap that goes underneath her chin. Otherwise she pulls it off to look at it! :rolleyes:
MrsChappy~Glad to hear from you! Love the videos, especially the one of Ben laughing!!
Phones~Shylah could care less about the toy phones. She wants the real thing, so I'll give her my cell with the keys locked to keep her from doing any damage! ;)
Nat~Cute family pic! Good luck with the PT gig!
Halloween Costumes~Haven't even thought about it yet. Someone recommended, though, that we dress DD up as Snow White.
Ferris~The monkey costume is adorable!!
Dreshny~Adorable pic!!! Now I'm jealous that I don't live any closer to any of you!!
My niece spent the day with us, so Shylah has had to learn how to share her toys really fast. She threw so many fits today because I wouldn't let her take toys away from her cousin. :rolleyes: My niece and step-sis are coming over again tomorrow, so hopefully Shylah will do better.
Naamah: I hope Shylah does better sharing today.;)
Collin is almost 100% back to himself, but now he isn't napping! Grrr.... I tell you. If it's not one thing it's another. I wish I could just have a whole day by myself to sleep. I'm sooooo tired. *sigh*
Halloween
Not yet. Although I think I ordered caroline's costume last year around Labor Day. I have no idea!!
Nose picker - yep, I have one here too!!!
Costumes - I can't believe it's time for Halloween again! I love the costume pics. That's serious talent making those things!
Liz - caught up reading the thread. so sorry to hear about Caroline's egg allergy. I hope it's something she quickly outgrows. It's good to hear that it's not a nuisance if it's mixed in food. I hope it stays minimal and goes away soon. btw, sorry bout cousin It too! I'm right there with you.
Great pic!! Looks like they are loving the corn on the cob! :)
Nose Picker Not yet! But I go have an eye poker!! He loves to poke my eyes and say "I"!!
Morning Star Veggies A few days ago I found these breaded cheddar brocoli veggies nuggets. Dougie loved them!! They also have a artichoke and spinach version I am going to try tomorrow. I am trying so hard to get him veggies in, but I am not sure if it's really helping
RO OMG there are so many RO in the may/june thread!! I am thinking I shouldn't post in there anymore, I just don't want any baby dust right now!:p ;)
Hats Dougie loves hats!! We have been putting them on him since he was a few months old. Whenever we would go outside he we would put one on him. He seriouly has 10 hats that he loves to wear. This one is his favorite
Diane,
Thanks! We're hopeful it will be something she outgrows. I've read 95% of toddlers do by age 3. We'll just have to wait and see. Oh, and don't think I haven't forgotten about your tape. I hope to get to it by Sunday.
Ferris,
OMG...I love that pic of Dougie!! He looks like such a fancy little lad in his little Derby hat. LOL!
Morning Star Veggie Bites
These things rule!! Caroline doesn't care too much for the Spinach/Artichoke ones (they taste kind of fishy to me), but the Broccoli ones are a real hit. We keep some in the freezer as a standby veggie when she is refusing others. Our other standby veggie is Ian's Sweet Potato Fries. All they are is strips of sweet potatoes with a little bit of soybean oil. She loves them!!
Liam (June 20th birthday, so getting close to 14 months) is still not walking. I'm not really worried about him - he is very physical and I have no doubt he is capable of standing alone and
