Acne-so Aiden has broken out all over his face. Thoughts? I was thinking maybe the milk but I would think I would see other signs if he had allergy

Naamah,
You are a better woman than I am...I didn't even attempt to make 1 cake, let alone 2. Hope she stays away from this one.
Ally,
Has he had his 1 year vacs. Could it be a reaction?
Caroline has learned to blow kisses!! :D :D She can't make the lip-smacking sound, but she put her little hand to her mouth and pulls it away really fast. She tries to make the sound by going "mmmmmm....MA!" LOL! It's so cute!!

Happy Birthday Addie!
Naamah! That is a nightmare! I think I would have been at the store ordering the cake instead of getting he stuff to make a new one!:p
Ally:Have you used anything new on his skin? sunblock?
Liz:So cute that Caroline is blowing kisses. I blow them to Collin everynight when he goes to bed, but he is not even close to returning them. :rolleyes:

Happy Birthday to all the babies!!!
I've spent a little time trying to catch up on the thread. I'm glad your birthday parties went well for the most part. (I had some serious fussiness toward the end of the party too.) I was in disbelief about the dog and the cake!
Ethan just turned 1 last friday. It's so crazy seeing him as a big boy.
He has 6 teeth now and is walking more than half of the time! He's on the move!
Meri - Congrats on being preggers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about the ER trip, hope DD feels/looks better soon. I'm dreading my first trip...
About being preggers, could I never get there again cause I'm so pissed at DH for saying last night that he doesn't know why I can't keep the house clean since I'm home all day? That I should be able to do that?
Ladies, are your houses "clean"? Please tell me the truth! After every long day, after DS goes to bed, I'm in the kitchen cleaning at 10pm and trying to pick up the house just a little... no appreciation for what I do... grrrrr.... Or, do I need a program? How do you ladies do it?

Happy Birthday to All the babies!!
I have just been so busy getting end of the school year stuff done. But today is my last day of school for the kiddos and tomorrow is the last day for me. I was so stressed with report card comments and then I have to interview today for the 1st grade position. The principal says I have the job, but I need to interview for it since I am part time. She said not to worry about it, but in the back of my head I still worry that someone else will get the position! On top of end of the year and interview stress, I have been getting us ready for our trip to California and North Carolina. I am stressing about flying with Dougie on friday by myself since DH is in Vegas for work and will meet us in California. Our plane leaves at 6:10 am!!! :eek: It was the only flight that I won't have to change planes, so we will be leaving for the airport at 4:30 am!! I hope that he will fall asleep, but I worry that he will be overtired and fight his sleep. I am looking forward to the trip, just not the flights!
Gotta run and order pizza's for our end of the year celebration!! :)

Golfer:If DH said that to me, I'd seriously strangle his a**! My house is far from clean. Laundry and dishes are about the only things that definitely get done around here. Before I got pg again, I would dust once a week and try to clean the kitchen each week. Now, DH is lucky he has clean underwear! Taking care of a toddler is full time work. It would be different if our kiddos were older and needed less supervision. There's a thread over in 0-18 months on this topic (I think it's called "SAHM how do you do it?") There's some good advice in there.
Ferris: Hooray for school being over! Try not to stress over the interview...you've got it in the bag. ;)

Ally~The dog will be in her kennel the remainder of the week unless we are in the kitchen with her or until the cake is COMPLETELY finished and stored away. ;) Hope Aiden's rash gets better.
LIZ~Really, when you live in a small town and don't want to make 101 trips into Wal-Mart to pick up a cake, you try and make it your own! (Of course, it doesn't help that MIL is being stupid about me even considering ordering a cake for any birthday at any point in DD's life. :rolleyes: ) Very cute about Caroline blowing kisses.
Julie~I really didn't want to deal with Wal-Mart on ordering a cake, nor did I want to make a mad dash the day of the party to pick it up. Our local grocery store doesn't make cakes. :(
Golfer~Sorry DH is giving you heck over the house. Our house isn't clean at all. I do my best to keep it picked up and try to vacuum the main areas once a week, but half the time I don't even accomplish that. I am subscribed to Fly Lady (http://www.flylady.net). There is a Yahoo! Group by the same name which send me to-do lists for the day. This helps me stay on track, but even with that there are days I just delete the emails and ignore her. :p
Ferris~Yay for the last day of school with the kiddos! Good luck with the interview. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about! :cool:
Well, ladies, I'm feeling like crap, so I think I'm going to take the afternoon off and see if I can sleep off this migraine. Then this evening I'll try tackling the cake again. :rolleyes:

Ferris,
Yay for the last day of school, and good luck with the interview! Sounds like you've already got the job in the bag though. Congratulations!
Clean House
Shyeah...I think the last day I had a clean house was October 1st, 2004...the day we conceived DD. :p Ever since then, it's been downhill. We try to do damage control on the weekends: getting stuff straightened up, do laundry, etc. But it's really hard to get to a lot of of less obvious jobs like cleaning the bathroom, detailing the kitchen, etc. We're talking about maybe getting some estimates for someone to come in periodically to do some of the things we just can't get to. I HATE spending my weekends (my precious time with my daughter) cleaning.

Ally: It could be the sunblock. There was a similar discussion recently on another list I'm on. Somebody's 2 yr old broke out after using the same sunscreen for 1.5 yrs. Another mom who has done her own research on sun blocks recommended UV Natural as the safest sun block available
on the market, since it is zinc oxide based.

Clean House: Not so much. I go in waves of tackling things. I find it helps me to have a calendar where I write down what I've cleaned when. It makes me feel better when I do get stuff cleaned to be able to see it (since it seems the cleaning tasks never end!) I also subscribed to flylady and was going to mention it here. We've never been great housekeepers. We did hire a cleaning service once a month after DS was born but cancelled it when I quit work to try and save $$ (and we would still have it if I was still working...it was so worth it -- Liz, ita that you shouldn't be spending precious weekend time trying to keep up with cleaning the house).
Cake: tgr, so sorry the dog ate the cake. Hopefully this one turns out 10x better from having the "practice" I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do for DS's birthday cake. We are doing a beach themed birthday party. I might do cupcakes and try to decorate them as beach balls or something or I might just see what the grocery store offers.

Ladies, are your houses "clean"?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
Awww man.....golfer_girl you are friggin hilarious.
Heh heh. "Clean house". Oh boy....that's pretty funny....
Ally - DS actually gto eczema in reaction to sunscreen. We started using VaniCream sunscreen which is also zinc oxide based and we haven't had any problems since.
clean house -- around here we mostly do damage control. As in company will be here in an hour and the toys are piled 3 deep across the living toom. We are lucky that we have clean clothing.

fly lady: I just unsubscribed b/c I couldn' keep up. I was doing good before getting pg and I found it to be really motivational.
Sunscreen:Thanks for the zinc oxide info. I need to look for that stuff. Collin's face always breaks out when we use sunscreen.:(

LIZ~Don't delete it yet! I'll have to see if I can find a tape to send you. We don't have cable, so I don't get to watch. :( Also, C will be getting her birthday card late because we ran out of stamps last week and just bought some yesterday. :o
I need to drag my butt up and go get started on DD's second birthday cake. (The dog ate the first one!) I just have no energy and have been feeling crappy these last few days, so I'm not wanting to exert any effort ot get up! :p :o

Naamah,
I think it originally aired in October and it hasn't been deleted yet. I think it's safe to say, it's not going anywhere. ;) Awwwww...you didn't have to get C a card! You're too sweet! Making cakes, remembering birthdays...so impress me!
*Note on Baby Story Tape* there is a piece missing from the end as it ran past the scheduled time. We had to record the following show in order to catch what was rolling during the credits. So, there is a skip while Daria is talking and we miss out on a few seconds of conversation. And Daria, if you're reading this...I'll only extending the offer to send the tape to our known members. I don't want you to think I'm airing it all over the world. ;)

Weight: 21lbs 14oz (near 50%)
Height: 30 3/4 inches (75%)
Head: 18 inches (25%)
He had his shots and we also had his ears irrigated b/c he has had so much wax in them the past few visits. :( He cried and cried. I cried, too. I have to give him eardrops again to loosen up the wax and hopefully, clear his ears.

Hey December, just because I'm interested, Parker hears, right? So is she talking and signing too, at this point? Or is she like many bilingual babies who talk late (but in both languages)?

DD signed "milk" at a very young age, I think around 5-6 months and she signs for 'more' She does babble but hasnt spoken a clear word yet although I took her with me to take the dog to the vet yesterday and she was pointing and trying to say doggie "dahhhdahh" but I dont know what the 'average' age is for children to start speaking? She can recognize signs and words we speak and responds to them. I've been bad about signing to her, I talk more but I should sign more and I have been trying to remind myself to 'sign sign sign sign' Hope that answers your question.

Liz, could I get you to tape it for me too??? I never got to see that! I tried getting my brother to tape it, but he accidentally deleted before I could ever get it. :( I'll gladly send you a blank tape. PM me if you can. Let me know if you get overloaded, I can ask someone to borrow it and mail it back?
Thanks!
About the clean house, thanks for all your replies. After a very "bite your head off" kind of argument (actually I think jmvan said AS$ - which I liked), my DH apologized and said he'd never say/ask that again... I really didn't think I was horribly dirty. Clutter, yes. Grime, no. I don't know any mom of a little one that did have a perfect house. I'm so glad you all told me so too!!! I'm not a nut, my DH is! I did get a big kick out of kim's response "Awww man.....golfer_girl you are friggin hilarious. " Thanks, I needed that!

:) I told DH about your post, and he looks at me and says "What is he nuts?" a) for essentially telling a SAHM she must have time on her hands to clean and b) for not cleaning up himself then commenting on the mess. My DH knows better. We live by the Clean Up or Shut Up rule around here. ;)

tgr The cake looks great!
Aiden did great at the WBV
21 lbs 2 oz
31 inches
2 teeth
2 shots-MMR and Chicken pox
He was sooo good even the doc comment how good he was. He asked me what he was doing so I gave him the list. Doc said I said all the right things
He should drink less then 25 ounces of milk. I told him he gets between 16-20 and he said that was perfect.
He can have all foods now. I am going to take it easy on the egg whites since I found out my dad had a egg white allergy as a kid.
He said his rash/acne looks fine and just to leave it alone.
He said as far as shoes not to worry to much. They are more for saftey when outside and I keep him barefoot in the house
He took the shots well. Luckly I had a paci with me. He is sleeping now. I hope he has a good day-it is so nice out.

kim - I love it, Clean Up or Shut Up. I'll be sharing that...
Are most of you going off bottle? I think I read a person or two was doing it. I think I'm going to stop the binkie at the same time. (Get rid of all sucking). What are you plans?
BTW, I have a mom tip on cleaning inside binkies if any of you use the clear silicon binkie. For those of you that might use them, the clear ones get real gross looking inside (water stains). If you use hot water, soap and vinegar to squeeze in and out, then rinse well inside and out, they'll look CLEAN.

December: In the past week, he's suddenly started saying a lot of words. Consistently, we have Mama, Dada, mmmm (when he sees food), uh oh, hi, bye bye, hat, duck, diaper, bathie. And lots of repeated words.
It came on really suddenly, though, and he seems to be taking a break from motor development (ie. no interest in walking) to concentrate on talking.

I love "Clean up or Shut up"
golfer: We haven't done a bottle in months. Between DS no longer being in daycare and starting solids we haven't had much need to. Still nursing as much or as little as DS wants (depends on the day). I don't have any immediate plans to eliminate the pacifier -- we try to limit it to just sleep time (or really fussy diaper changes) but we rely pretty heavily on it when we do use it. Thanks for the tip on cleaning the pacifiers.
tgr: The cake looks fabulous. You did a great job.
Walking: DS is getting close to walking. He's been cruising for several months and has just recently been starting to work on the balance part. He's a cautious kid though and will only let for for a few moments before he grabs onto something again or lowers himself to the ground. In the last day or two he has started taking 2-3 teeny tiny steps on his own.
Talking: DS has said a few words (daddy, mom, up) but doesn't use any of them very consistently. He went through a phase a week ago where he took a break from working on his balance to talking and this week we haven't identified any clear words. We went to a museum yesterday and DS loved hearing the echo of his voice in the different rooms. I loved it...not so sure the other museum visitors felt the same way though.
Climbing: This seems to go along with the walking and DS is doing it more and more. He still can't get up on chairs or the couch without help, but he really doesn't need to much help (climbing on top of mommy is all the boost he needs). As soon as he figures out how to move things around to make steps we are really in trouble.

Naamah: The cake looks wonderful! You did a great job. Collin climbs on everything. I have to watch him like a hawk. He climbs on his highchair. He tried to get on top of his leap frog learning table the other day.:rolleyes:
Words: Collin doesn't really say any words. He sort of says cat and daddy, but mostly just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. He spends more energy on physical activites than anything else.
Golfer:Thanks for the binky cleaning tip. Collin never took a bottle, so that's not something I ever had to deal with.:rolleyes: Most days I try to limit pacifer use to naps, bed and the car, but some days it's used to excess.

We've been out of town for the past 5 days and I've missed my CC fix!
Happy birthday to Emma Collin Parker Caroline Cole
Now for my birth story
(My OB had agreed to induce me because DH and I were moving to a new town 4 hours away, but were having DD in our old town. So, we were basically waiting to have her before we could move--selfish motive, but I'm so glad we did it!)
Tuesday June 14, 2005
I woke up at 4am to shower and get ready. We had to be at the hospital at 5am. I woke DH up around 4:30 and we left the house at 4:45. When we arrived at the hospital we got settled into a L&D room and I changed into a hospital gown. DH snoozed in a chair beside the bed while the nurse went through some questions with me and set things up on her computer. At 5:40 I was checked by the nurse and was found to be 2cm dilated-I had been dilated to 2 cm for at least a week at this point! The nurse got my IV started and the pitocin was started around 5:40. DH and I both rested since neither of us had gotten much sleep the night before! Around 6am I started to feel the contractions. They weren't painful at all, I just breathed through them like I learned in my childbirth class. I let DH continue to sleep. Around 6:30 my OB came in and checked me and I was at 4cm. He had planned to break my water at this point, but he decided against it because 1-I was progressing fast and 2-he was about to go do an emergency C-section and wouldn't be around for an hour or so.
We continued to rest and my dad came in the room. He is Physicians Assistant and was up at the hospital doing rounds. He hung out with us and sent DH to get some breakfast while he stayed with me. Around 7:15 the OB came back and broke my water. My Dad called my Mom at home and told her to hurry, that I was progressing quickly. DH's parents came up around this point too. Somewhere around this time my pitocin was turned down. My OB called for the anesthesiologist to start my epidural. After my water broke the contractions were getting stronger. I was still fine without any pain meds, I just had to have someone look at the monitor and tell me when the contraction peaked so I knew that the end was coming. At about 8am, the anesthesiologist still hadn't arrived yet and my fabulous nurse started hunting him down! She asked me if I wanted some other pain meds in the meantime, but I decided to wait for the epidural-I could still handle the pain. Around 8:30 the anesthesiologist finally arrived! He also does anesthesia with my Dad's group's surgeries, so I think he was extra careful and very apologetic about taking so long. After the epidural was in I felt fabulous. DH and I decided to try to go to sleep, so we sent my parents and his parents out to the waiting room.
My nurse told me that she needed to put in a catheter. I don't know why I was so against it, but I really didn't want to have one. She said we'd wait a few more minutes and make sure the epidural was in full effect and then she promised that I wouldn't feel it at all. At around 9am she decided to check me before she did the catheter. I was 9cm!! I had no clue that I was that far along because I wasn't feeling anything anymore. The nurse sort of kicked it into high gear-calling for help to get the room set up for delivery and sending a page to my OB. DH went out to the waiting room to tell everyone we were about to start pushing. My nurse had me turn on my left side and suddenly the baby's heart rate starting dropping. The nurse adjusted the monitor and then had me turn back on my right side. Baby's rate went back up, but it would drop a bit with every contraction.
A few minutes later, after DH got back, I told the nurse that I felt like the baby was coming out. She asked me if I needed to push and I said "I guess so." She told me to go ahead and push. Of course I couldn't remember exactly what I was supposed to do and so I had to have a crash course in pushing!! I pushed a few times and then my OB arrived. At this point it seemed like there were millions of people in the room scurrying around me. I kept pushing and this was the only time I lost it. DH, my OB, and the nurse were all talking at the same time and I just couldn't focus. Plus, no one was counting to 10 for me and Lord knows I couldn't count to 10 on my own at this point!! So, I said in a pretty calm voice, "Too many people are talking at once and I need someone to count for me please!" DH took over counting and we pushed some more. Baby's heart rate continued to drop. I asked my OB what we needed to do to get her out safely and asked about a C-section. He told me that since we were so close to delivering she would be fine to be delivered vaginally even with the heart rate issue. My OB then did a small episiotomy. I pushed a few more times and baby's head appeared. DH got to see her head and we were both pretty much in shock. I pushed once more and out she came! Addie was born at 9:49 am. I asked if she was okay and my OB said yes. Then I saw my OB holding her and swinging her in a circle-turns out the cord was wrapped around her neck three times! OB was untangling the cord! The cord around her neck was the reason for her heart rate dropping.
I think DH cut the cord (I'll have to check again with him!!) and Addison Grace was whisked away to be cleaned off and get her shots and eye ointment. DH of course was right by Addie's side talking to her and watching everything going on. I was stuck staring at my OB as he was stitching me up and I couldn't see Addie at all! It was so hard not to be over with her at this point. Addie weighed in at 6lbs 6oz and was 18 1/2 inches long. During this time DH was looking for our camera-we hadn't even gotten it out yet and it didn't have batteries in it. I went so fast that we didn't have time to get it ready. He found our camera in my bag, but it wouldn't work! So DH asked a nurse to go out to the waiting room to get my mom's camera. DH took some pictures with my mom's camera and then went out to announce Addie's arrival. It was so funny though-he told everyone "She's 6lbs 6oz and 12 inches long!" We still laugh about that to this day. DH claims that lots of numbers were being shouted out and he must have gotten confused!!
After I was all sewn up and Addie was cleaned up we finally got to be together. I just couldn't believe our baby was already here. Addie was so tiny and red! She didn't cry much at all! We just stared at her for a while and then let all the grandparents have a turn to hold her. I nursed Addie and then the pedi nurses came to get her for her bath.
I really was blessed to have an easy labor and delivery!
Here's our happy family!

Julie~Thanks!
Nat~I did not realize that your dad was a PA at all! :eek: I can't believe the number of babies here that had the cord wrapped around them in some way. Adorable pictures!!
Birthday Party!!
The morning started off a little crazy. We had been expecting rain, so DH had not worried about some of the yard work necessary to get the pool set up in favor of prepping the inside of the house. Well, we woke up to a beautiful rain-free morning! DH ended up mowing and raking this morning while I ran around getting last minute errands ran. We were getting the pool set up as our guests began to arrive! Talk about cutting it close! :eek:
I ran to get the pizza as the last few guests trickled in. The adults and older kids ate pizza, while Shylah had a green bean & soft pizza crust lunch (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/123114.jpg).
After lunch, the kids swam (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/130905.jpg). Shylah was okay with the water until the little boy started splashing and got her wet. Then she wanted out. :rolleyes: After a few minutes, she decided the pool was okay and played for probably 15 minutes! None of the kids wanted to get out!
We sang "Happy Birthday (http://www.dropshots.com/videolink.php?userid=32398&cdate=20060617&ctime=133356&showVideo=1)" and served DD cake (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/133258.jpg). At first she was very delicate (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/133550.jpg) with the whole cake-eating process and then the mess (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/134645.jpg) began!!! ;)
After cake, she opened gifts (http://www.dropshots.com/photos/32398/20060617/140456.jpg)! We got a few toys and books with a lot of clothes!! The big surprise of the day was from BIL. He had saved up and bought her a Radio Flyer wagon (http://www.dropshots.com/videolink.php?userid=32398&cdate=20060617&ctime=142156&showVideo=1)! DH told me at that point he had known about it but was sworn to secrecy.
Everyone had a great time, and about 15 minutes after the party a MAJOR thunderstorm moved in! :eek: I was sooooo glad it had held out because the party weather was beautiful!

Happy Birthday Shylah! Naamah, it sounds like the party was perfect! I love the cake-you made it right??
walking not yet although we got a push walking toy yesterday and she walked all over the place with it. I wouldn't be surprised if she starts soon.
talking No and I wish she would. DD usually screams to tell us she wants something and we have to figure out what it is. I've tried sign language and everything else I can think of but she still does it. It makes me crazy! This weekend she started screaming, looked at my mom, looked at me and then finally laid down on the floor and started sucking her fingers! She was sleepy!
climbing DD really likes to climb...over Mommy and Daddy, over pillows, etc. She tries to climb on the couch and it's so hilarious to see her standing up with one leg up in the air!
Father's Day What did you all do? I made DH a framed photo mat on an easel with Addie's picture holding a football inside. The mat says, "I love you because" and then I listed 10 things DH does with Addie like "you throw me up high", "you make bath time fun" etc. I also put her handprint on the front. Cheesy and cheap, but I think he'll appreciate it! I also wrote a card from Addie saying that she wants to start a tradition of taking Daddy out to breakfast on Father's Day. So this morning DH and DD will drop me off early at church because I'm working in the nursery, then they'll go to Starbucks for breakfast and meet me back at church for the second service. I think we'll go out to lunch too. ( I made the same thing for my dad and put a picture of Addie inside and the outside says, "I love Papa because...")

Naamah:It sounds like the party wen perfectly! I'm so jealous at how photo savvy you are. I love how you included links to pics and video in your post. I'd be lost. :o We got Collin that same wagon for his bday. :p
Nat: Addie's party dress is adorable. I'm glad the party went well.
Father's Day:Unfortunately, I didn't feel up to doing anything creative this year. I got DH a gc to the sporting goods store and I had Collin scribble inside his card.:) We did go out to lunch. It was yummy.

Happy Birthday, Shylah!
Clean House ~ Well, it's not exactly clean. DH is good about helping me clean it when I ask him. I would do more but morning sickness and being constantly tired (combination of thyroid problem and pregnancy) are making me take things more easily. Plus I am at a VERY high risk of miscarriage so we are trying to keep this little one a very sticky baby right now. It will have to be cleaned before DD's birthday part next week. I'd like to have it clean by her birthday next Wednesday. We will see if that happens or not.
Liz ~ I do believe it aired in late September or October. I don't remember exactly but I did get to see it the first time it aired. I sat there telling Sarah that I know that woman. I saw it as a repeat as well but don't remember exactly when that was.
Namaah ~ Sorry about the first cake. I tried to look at the second cake but I couldn't see it. :( We got the rain earlier than you did. We were outside at an event in town and literally got soaked. BIL was playing in the softball tourney and the games got cancelled and moved to Sunday. What a busy day that turned out to be (30 minute time limit, one pitch, no homeruns).
Nat ~ Love the birthday pictures!
Talking and Walking ~ DD would love to walk and has been standing more unassited but hasn't did the full fleged walking just yet. She will walk while holding on to the things. And she finally tried to walk while pushing the hippo that a friend of ours got her when she was born. And talking up a storm!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, our plans of not telling anyone but immediate family went out the window this past weekend. We went out to eat on Friday evening with my mom to a place that is sort of owned/run by extended family. We got congras on baby #2 and we were a little surprised by how they knew. Then they told us how they knew. After they said something I was more than a little upset by how they found out. Seems that DH's grandma has decided that she could tell who ever she wanted about the baby. DH couldn't even get the chance to tell his two brothers because she had already told them. :rolleyes: I felt that it's our place to tell who we want and we feel we are ready and want to tell people. Not her's. Plus with my thyroid condition it means things are high risk for us. I'm at a high risk for miscarriage because of my hypothyroidism not being under control. Plus I am at risk for things down the road in the pregnancy. We haven't felt comfortable telling anyone other than those who have to know about the pregnancy for those reasons. Saturday evening they all got to hear why we were mad/upset and to not tell anyone else.
Happy Belated Birthday to Caroline, Addie, Cole Shylah and any others I missed! Vacation was great, but there's always such a pile of work and stuff waiting for you when you get home...
Walking - nope, but will walk with a push toy or if you hold her hands. Pulls up constantly and furniture walks. Still stands on her tip-toes a lot, but wouldn't be surprised if she takes a few steps later this month.
Talking - Tons, tons, tons of babbling, but very few words. Really only "uh-oh" reliabily and "mama" sometimes. Definitely gets mad when you don't understand what she's trying to say, though :rolleyes:
Climbing - Also a pro climber of Mommy and Daddy, over pillows on our bed, the couch.
Father's Day - I had ordered a 12-month calandar from Snapfish with various photos from each month, like July was 1 month, August 2 months, etc, cooresponding to last year. Took forever! Busted my rear to get it ordered in time, factoring in mailing time. Then held our mail while on vacation and wasn't able to pick it up till today since we got in late Saturday night. Oops! Got DH some cards and breakfast on Sunday. We hit the men's department stores for dress clothes for DH b/c they have good sales this time of year. He got two suits, some shirts, a tie and a pair of shoes, though not really Father's Day gifts. More like his annual replace-my-professional-wardrobe.
Natalie ~ Great party! Love the photos, especially the favors- so cute! Did Addie get a lot of flowers? I love that idea and would totally copy it if we were staying in this house longer. We used that same b-day bib for Ava!
Meri ~ Err to your relatives for spilling the beans too early! I espeically understand given your health concerns, but regardless, it was yours and your DH's surprise to share, not some one else's. Maybe try to think that everyone was so excited and happy that they wanted to spread the good news quickly...
Naamah ~ Wonderful job on Shylah's cake! Totally impressed! Your pool looks like a ton of fun. So glad the rain held off until after the kids swam.
Birthday Party!!
Had a great time with a few more friends of my parents attending than expected, no big deal. My mother and sister helped me finish decorating the cookie favors that morning while DH picked up the food (it was just a cook-out so easy prep) and balloons. I was really pleased with my favors, but the decorating icing (the pre-made kind) wouldn't harden enough so it smeared on the little baggies if you weren't careful. Would skip that stuff next time. Anyway, DD had a nice nap that morning after not sleeping well that night so she was well-rested. Entertained the guests for 30 mins or so by justing crawling around and playing while DH grilled our burgers. She covered her ears when we sang "Happy Birthday", but dug right into that baby cake once I got her going. She just licks the icing till she realizes there's more substance underneath. ;) Tore at a few gifts before loosing interest and then had a quick bath (frosting makes a great hair styling product) and crashed. DH and I were alone together at 10:59 (or 11:59 eastern time) and spent a few moments on tearful reflection of her birth a year ago (okay, maybe just I was tearful :o ).
Beach Vacation
We cleaned up right after her party and hit the road about 45 mins later. DD and I slept a good two hours while we caravaned with my sister and parents. We rented a house which worked out nicely except that DD's room was near the biggest TV, and my sister and her husband aren't used to being as quiet for a sleeping baby. But my parents loved her (as usual) and my dad constantly tried to teach her to say Grandpa. We borrowed one of those First Step sunshades and loved it! Will definitely be getting one. She only tried to eat the sand a couple times and would sit at the water's edge after a little while. Slathered on sunscreen and thankfully, she didn't burn at all. Overall, it was a great week.
maggie Cute pictures! I love the cookies you made! We ditched the "bring a flower instead of a gift" theme when we thought we might be moving, but some of our good friends brought Addie some potted light pink impatients in a pot with her name on it. I liked the flower theme and those favors were $1 at Wal Mart---I've got tons left over if you want some! ;)
Meri Sorry your DH's grandma spilled your good news. I know it is hard for people not to share good news, but hopefully after you explained your reasons they won't tell anyone else!
clean house shmean house! Just kidding! I keep it picked up and keep the kitchen clean, but our carpet and tile need a good cleaning after our party last weekend! I'll get to it someday! :rolleyes:
jmvan Thanks for the compliments on Addie's dress. I thought it was perfect too! We have green and pink gingham in her nursery so I couldn't pass when I saw it! RE:Father's Day....I'm sure my DH would have LOVED a gc to a sports store!
__________________________________________________ ______________
We went to the ped for Addie's one year WBV today. She weighs 17lbs 15 oz (10th %), height is 29.5 inches (50-75%), and head is 17 1/8 inches (5-10 %). I got some good tips about introducing milk. As of Sunday I cut out one nursing session (down to 3/day) and I've been trying to get Addie to drink a little milk everyday. The ped. suggested giving it to her room temp or warm and she seemed to like that a little better than cold.
Kelseyledare- Cute pics!!!!!
USAFWife-I am sorry about your DH's grandmother giving out the secret about #2 but CONGRATS!!!!!
Kelseyledare - looks like Ava's party and your vacation were lots of fun.
Usafwife - Sorry to hear that they spilled the beans!
We had our year WBV visit.
One year stats:
weight: 20 lbs 7.5 oz
height: 20 in
head: 17 3/4 in
DS only got one shot (HIB) as we are delaying / selectively vaxing. Though, the most disturbbg part is when the nurse brought us back into the room to do height/weight DS started crying hysterically the second we walked into the room until she left. He was totally fine with the Dr. Go figure.
The other interesting part of the visit was when the ped said he no longer believes that kids need to be 2 or 3 before diagnosing seasonal allergies (FWIW another ped in the practice had already diagnosed DS).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LIAM!!!
Meri,
I'm so sorry your GMIL spilled the beans. I can completely understand your wanting to keep it under wraps for a while with your condition. She should respect your decision to keep things quiet and be grateful that you confided in her.
Maggie,
I love the pics! You did such a great job on Ava's crown! I may have to commission you to make one for Caroline. I LOL at the pic of her covering her ears. Were you all that bad? :p Where did you get that super cute bathing suit/beach hat for Ava?
Nat,
Addie is such a little peanut!!
spps,
Poor DS! I've heard of quite a few babies freaking out on the nurses like that. They must associate them with all the bad stuff, like giving shots.
1 Year Stats
Weight- 19 pounds, 2 ounces
Length- 28.75
HC- 44 cm
I think they messed up on the length & HC. Her length is only .75 more than her 9 mo. WBV and her HC is .5 less than her last visit.
She got 2 vacs: the Hib & the chicken pox. She won't get the MMR until her 15 month appt.
Milk
Dr. had a simple plan for introducing. Offer her a sippy of 2-4 ounces of whole milk in the morning. If she doesn't react, make the switch. She did fine with it, so we're offering it twice a day while we use up the rest of her formula and she's still getting 1 bottle of EBM a day while I wean off the pump. She's still not taking a sippy too well, so we'll probably be using the bottle for a little longer. We are working with it more though.
Some pics from Caroline's party this weekend. I have a ton more in my journal if you are really interested. ;)
We had a really nice time. However, after the party I got a call from my mother that my Grandmother had passed. She's local, so I've been over there helping to prepare for the funeral. Even though we've been expecting and praying for it for a while, I'm having a tough time with it. I thought I'd be more prepared. I guess it's never easy. :(
Thanks for all the birthday wishes!
Nat~Yes, I made the cake. Thanks! DD refuses milk if it's cold, so we heat it up but keep it a little cooler each nice to get her used to cold drinks.
Father's Day~I gave DH 2 photos - one of Shylah in a shirt that says "Daddy's Girl" and a self-portrait of DD and I. I found some old frames that had either never been used or only slightly used in the house, so it only cost me about $3 for his gift!
Julie~Thanks!! It really wasn't that hard to include the links. I just highlight what word I wanted to use, then used the link tool. :) I love how you had Colin "sign" DH's card!
Meri~I wondered if you guys got hit with it. The morning showers all went just south of us. Sorry that GMIL spilled the beans. :(
Maggie~Thanks! Sounds like your party went over very well, too. We also ran DD in for a sink bath after that cake! LOL! Love the pictures!!
Milk~We did a "Bottle Boot Camp" in conjunction with transitioning her to milk. We took away the bottles all together, except for her night bottle before bed, which we filled with whole milk. The first few days were horrid, but now she barely notices if we don't give her milk in the bottle!
LIZ~Love the pics! Sorry about your grandma. :(
Not much going on here. Still trying to recover and pick up from the party. DD did get a few toys, so now I have to find a place to put them. I also need to figure out where we will be storing all her "baby" stuff until we decide to TTC #2.
Liz:The party sounds like it went really well. The food looks yummy. I'm loving wateremelon right now! That cake is so fun! It looks like another baby enjoyed their cake. ;) So sorry about your grandmother.
Milk:We are on all whole milk. Collin loves it. He drinks it so fast that half of it ends up on his lap! It must be cold, though. The only way I got him ot drink formula was cold, too. My kid is a wierdo.
Ally: Look at your new avatar! Aiden looks so grown up!
Sorry about Grandma's indiscretion. We were a little crazy about telling people about #1 because of potential issues, and our parents were hurt we didn't even tell them until the 1st trimester was over. Hopefully those she has told 'get it' and will be happy for you but won't tell anyone else.
Did I say congrats yet??
What's Up With Thomas
Well, he's really into climbing everything.
He now pushes his stroller around only holding with 1 hand. I *think* I've seen him take 1 step on his own twice, but I can't be sure.
Still not saying much, but babbles ALL THE TIME and it sounds like he is making sentences, asking questions, pausing for comments. And he does repeat some words that sound like what I say when I say "Thomas, say xxx".
He now has 6 teeth.
This morning he had a ton of green goop in one eye, a little in the other and the rims were a touch pink so I'm off to the Ped's to check it out. Better be safe than sorry before our 2 weeks away, you know? Yesterday I saw a tiny bit of goop, but he always rubs food in his eyes so it wasn't anything I was concerned about.
Happy Birthday Brady!
Kim:Ugghh, pink eye! I hope it clears up quickly. Have a safe trip to Chicago.
I found out yesterday that my sister had a miscarriage. :( We're not the best of friends, but it is still very upsetting to me. Then if that wasn't enough, my sister called me last night to tell me that my dad was bringing my mom to the hospital for an MRI b/c they think she may have had a mini-stroke.:( You always hear that things happen in 3's, so I really hope I'm not going to be #3. Trying to be positive, though.
I am so sorry to hear about your family's misfortunes. I'm thinking of you, and sending positive vibes your way.
He's doing better already, though its is INSANE trying to get the drops in. How can such tiny eyes be so hard to hold open? :rolleyes:
I'm suprised about the Rx cost - my Ped just gave them to me from the stock room at no charge...
tgr
Thanks - I hope its totally gone by the time we leave tomorrow!
kimberly
Welcome! (BTW: I will try to spell your name right, but mine is -ley so I sometimes go on autopilot. Forgive me! ;) )
Speaking of the trip...
Since our truck is dead again, its been at the dealership since Tuesday and still hasn't even been looked at yet, I amstuck at home. So, I am actually getting packed up, cleaned up, prepped for the trip all day. DS & I will be there for 2 weeks, but DH will be coming home Tues-Fri next week for work then back to Chicago on Friday. But even though he'll be home, I have to act like he won't be since its end of quarter so he'll be working 7am-9pm days all week most likely.
I am trying to be positive, and am emailing the ILs a list of activities we can do while we're there. You know, the Children's Museum on Navy Pier has things for toddlers & young kids (one SIL has a 4 & 6 year old), the Museum of Science & Industry has a live frog exhibit, there's the beach, you know give them Thomas' awake timeframe so we can enjoy his best hours together. :) Plus, I'll oh-so-discreetly mention how it'd be nice to have some girls night-outs so we can leave all the boys at home and see "Devil Wears Prada", "The Lake House" or something like that. Maybe even cocktails on the top of the Sears Tower.
A Scare
So I found out yesterday that there was a man at the local park that approached a girl in an alleged attempt to kidnap her. Its got the whole community up in arms. Frightening. She is 3 years old, and another mom saw this man approach her and listened to the whole conversation. Finally when the girl said her mom was on the other side of the park, the woman listening grabbed her kid, ran over the the 3yo and yelled "Whose daughter is this she is talking to a man I don't think she knows" and the mom heard her, ran over yelling "I don't know that man" and the guy took off. It seems he approached her a week or so earlier and chatted her up, too.
You really can't turn your back for a second these days....
Happy Birthday, Brady!!
Julie~So sorry about your sis and mom. :( Praying that nothing else happens to you and your family.
Kim~OMGosh!! How scary! :eek: Thank goodness that mom was quick on her feet!
Vent~Okay, I just got a call from one of DH's cc companies. They keep calling during the day and waking DD up from her nap, so DH told me the next time they call to ask that we be put on their do not call list (since he no longer has an account with them). Well, the lady on the phone tells me that I don't have the authority to make that request because my name is not on the account! :mad: :mad: I ended up yelling at her about how she is breaking the law by not following that request etc. etc, and she said she realized that and then tried to give me the shpeil again about how I'm not on the account, yadda, yadda, yadda. :eek: I slammed down the phone and called DH. Hopefully, they'll listen to him. Otherwise he said he is going to file a formal complaint with the FCC against their company. :p
Oh, Julie, I am so sorry! What a hard time for your family right now. Try to stay positive and not stress yourself out with worry. You and your baby are healthy...
Kim ~ Sounds like a great list of activities. My DH was complaining that we didn't have enough stuff planned during our vacation so it is awesome that you are ahead of the game. For me, regular, frequently breaks alone are the only way to tolerate my ILs. But then again, they are crappy ILs. That is so scary about the little girl! You just cannot be too careful.
Naamah ~ ERRRR to the sucky telephone solicitation people! My DH is very pro-favor for the do-not-call list. I'm fighting the telephone complany now b/c we had our number disconnected and want the new one listed on the recording if people call. Three times this has been promised to me, but it still isn't there...
Thanks everyone. I just talked to my mom and she's doing well. Thank goodness it wasn't a stroke. She was diagnosed with severe anxiety. Apparently, she's been having panic attacks and not telling anyone about them. :( She's feeling much better now.
Kim: Do you want to make an itinerary for my trip this summer! ;) That sounds like a lot of fun things to help pass the time.
Naamah: Errr. about the phone people. It shouldn't matter if your name is on the card...it's your phone number! I always get calls from non-profits wanting money. Lately, I see the number, press talk and then immediately press end. I keep telling them I don't make donations over the phone.
tgr68
06-22-2006, 12:47 PM
Thanks girls!! DH checked into it and according to the do-not-call regs, a company can call up to 18 months after ending an account with them, and ONLY the person who holds the account can request otherwise, unless the phone number has never been associated with said person. DH put in a request for them not to call, and they said it could take up to 30 days for it to go into full effect. :rolleyes: But, if we recieve a call after the 30 days, then we are to get the person's name, id #, and specific company they are calling with. Then we are to turn that individual in basically.
Hey all. Just checking in. I've been reading and keeping up with the thread but until now, haven't had the strength over the past few days to reply.
My nausea has eased up a bit although I still have dry heaves and gagging. Now I am fighting a severe head cold. ~sigh~ If it's not one thing, it's another. I had my 12 week u/s a few days ago (delayed a bit due to incompentant scheduling since I am now 13 w 5 d) but everything looks good so I am much relieved.
Alexa now has eight teeth and is happily toddling around a few steps at a time. She has also discovered the joys of the pool and has become a total fish. We have a little floaty ring for her and she goes splashing around the pool. She also likes sitting on the edge of the pool and dribbling water everywhere. Since we don't feel comfortable having her in the pool unless there are two of us with her, we now keep her baby bath tub on the back deck so that all we have to do is strip off her onesie and she's in splash heaven without too many safety worries. It's hysterical to watch her but she is now at the point where she is enjoying being naked in her tub TOO much. When my mom goes to put her down for her nap, she keeps pulling at her onesie. I think we're going to have one of those kids that strips off their clothes at the drop of a hat and then goes running down the street! :o
Hope everyone else is well.
Whoa -- I have gotten VERY far behind... Happy Birthday to everyone!
Liz - Sorry to hear about your greandmother. I think these things are always hard no matter how much we know they are coming
Kim - DS hasn't had any formal allergy testing yet. He was diagnosed based on symptoms and a strong family history of seasonal allergies. Hope Thomas's eye is better and your trip is going well.
jmvan - Sorry about your mom and sister. Thinking good thoughts for you and your pregnancy.
tgr - arghhh. that is so frustrating. To combat the phone waking DS problem, we turned off the ringers on the upstairs phones. If you know to listen you can hear them downstairs and pick up anyway.
Welcome Kimberly!
DS has taken to throwing his toys in the kitchen garbage can. We discovered this this morning when DH was taking out the trash and it started beeping at him. We liberated a toy car, a bottle, and part of his Little People gas station. We are still missing a few more little toys and I hope that it is not already too late. Anyone have any suggestion on how to keep him out? We don't have enough cabinet space to lock up the garbage can, and totally banning hom from the kitchen except for meals is also totally impractical.
The ILs who live one town over are out of town, so SIL and I are spliitting their cleaning lady for the day. This comes as such a relief as we are having weekend company and the house is a pigsty to say the least.
Diane ~ Thanks. Actually the trip for the fall wass the second trip to the ER for DD. The first one was because of possible Lyme disease. Thankfully she didn't have it. I have a feeling it's only the start of our trips to the ER.
Maggie ~ Thanks. I can understand that they were excited but they didn't start immediately telling everyone they saw when we told them we were expecting with Sarah. Nice pictures.
Nat ~ Thanks. I'm hoping that they got the point when we explained our reasons.
December ~ Thanks.
spps ~ Thanks.
Liz ~ Thanks. We weren't going to tell anyone until after we had the u/s but then DH decided to go ahead and say something even though I really didn't want him to say something just yet. Nice pictures. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I don't think there is ever an easy time for that to happen. I lost my grandmother 6 years ago this coming December. PM me if you want to talk. It wasn't easy to lose her even though we had a few days to prepare ourselves when the moment actually came it was VERY difficult to accept.
Namaah ~ Thanks. Yes, we litterally got soaked three times.
Julie ~ Thanks. I can relate to m/s feeling. I almost had to call DH to come home early yesterday. I know it's all worth it in the end if I can just get past the m/s.
Happy Belated Birthday, Ellie!
Happy Belated Birthday, Liam and Brady!
Kimberly ~ Welcome!
Kim ~ Thanks. We knew we would have to tell some people just because of m/s. We just didn't think that they would tell everyone they saw that we were having #2 for at least a few more weeks. We probably wouldn't have told anyone but my mom if I didn't have such bad m/s. I just keep thinking I wish I could be pregnant and not be so sick. I'd like to be one of those that didn't deal with m/s. I can relate to the climbing...I think it's become DD's favorite thing to do.
Julie ~ I'm so sorry about your sister's miscarriage. It's never an easy thing to go through. Just be there for her if/when she needs someone. Sorry about your mom as well. Try to think positive about the things happening in 3's. It doesn't always happen (but I've seen it happen before. My DH's grandfather passed away, then two weeks later a very good family friend who was like the boys' second father passed away in a motorcycle wreck, and then about a month and a half later their mom passed away. It wasn't easy dealing with all of those but they all got past it...it took time but it did happen). PM me if you want.
kim ~ Have fun on your trip! How scary about that man approaching that little girl!
sophia ~ Sorry you are still feeling so horrible. I'm hoping that mine leaves very soon (the sooner the better as far as I'm thinking). Yesterday was just plain horrible. I would have loved nothing other than to stay in bed all day but that wasn't going to happen. I just have to keep reminding myself that the prize is worth it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday was absolutely the worst day for my m/s. I wanted to call DH at work and have him come home but I didn't. Thankfully he let me sleep last night and took care of DD. I'm dreading tonight as it's visitation for a friend's daughter who died in the school trip I posted about earlier. The funeral is tomorrow. I just can't imagine having to lose a child in this way. One of the families lost their only child on the trip.
I would also like to know why people can't simply send an RSVP to a birthday party. We gave them three options to RSVP and so far only my mom, DH's grandparents, and one of my cousins have let us know. The RSVP deadline is tomorrow. GRRRRRRR!!!! :mad: :mad: Well, I guess you could say that SIL has sort of responded (even though the date was okay with her before setting the date in stone) and said that it's the day that their oldest DD gets home from camp and isn't sure if BIL will be home or not (we've had some problems happen in the past couple of months that just tick DH and me off). So I have a feeling that she will do anything to get out of coming to the birthday party. I'm sure you remember my venting a few weeks back about her.

Oh my goodness, I have not posted in a really long time. I try to keep up with everyone and read, but I don't delurk very often.
Congrats to all the repeat offenders!
Emma is doing well we just had her 12mo check up. She is 21lbs 3oz and 30 inches tall. She is feeding herself well (all table foods) and only on two bottles a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. She goes to bed between 830-9pm and sleeps until 6am. She took her first steps at 10 months but didnt really start walking until 11 months, now she is walking everywhere and fast! She only has two teeth (the bottom front two) but that doesnt stop her from trying to bite sometimes. She also has not much in the hair department, and I continue to dress her in pink non stop so I dont get the "what a cute little boy" comments. :rolleyes:

Happy Birthday to Liam, Ellie and Brady!
I typed out a long post earlier with Addie on my lap, then she hit the keyboard and it was gone! :rolleyes: So, I'm going to do a cliff notes version!
I have been looking into a Mother's Day Out program because Addie spends 90% of her time with only me and if I'm around she won't go to DH, my dad, my mom, etc. I thought it would be good for her to be with someone else one or two days a week and realize that someone else can take care of her. At the same time I was calling churches I wondered what the heck I'd do with 2 days to myself every week. I decided I might look into a part time job. I called one church about MDO and they had just had a teacher for that department resign from the 4 year old room. I told the secretary that I was a certified teacher, was thinking about working part time and I went in to fill out an application. She called the program director (who is off for the summer), read her my resume and application, told her what she learned about me from our conversation and the program director called and offered me the job without even meeting me! It made me feel great! I know that by staying at home with Addie I'm doing great things, but it felt awesome to feel valued as a professional again. So, starting in the fall I'll be working Tuesday and Thursday from 9-2 and I'll get some time to be Mrs. T again and Addie will have some time away from me. I'm really excited about it!
Today DH didn't have to go into work at all. We spent the morning together as a family and when Addie went down for a nap I left and ran errands and went to see a friend. It was really nice!

Shylah has been pulling up for a few weeks now and letting go to stand for about 1 week. Well, today she stood completely on her own with no help pulling up! :eek:

Hey, thanks, y'all for wishing Liam a happy birthday! I haven't been around in forever and don't feel like I deserve it! I just happened to check in after months, and saw your sweet birthday wishes (now that he's finally napping really well, I have a little time on my hands!) And I have missed y'all.

Namaah ~ Thanks. I'm certainly hoping it won't stick around as long as it did with Sarah. If so I'm stuck with it for a while longer. I'm so hoping it goes away very soon. I'd love to be able to start using my exercise machine. I just haven't felt like exercising because I've been SO darn tired (I don't remember being this tried/exhausted with DD but I think it has to do with my thyroid being out of whack again). Can't wait to see the playhouse pictures.
Bam ~ It's so good to hear from you again! What a little cutie pie Miss Emma is!! I hear you on the boy comments. We've gotten them since the first time we took DD anywhere. I could put her in a dress, with pink and still get the boy comments. Who in the world would put a boy in a dress??? :confused: Thanks for the congrats. It was a shock to say the least.
someday soon ~ It's so good to hear from you again as well! I've said it before and I'll say it again, our little ones are not babies anymore. Just look at their pictures and you can see it. Thanks for sharing the birthday picture of Liam.
Nat ~ Congrats on the new job. I used to work at a MDO program at our church a few years ago just after they started the program. All the mothers that brought their kids just thought it was the best thing for them. We got thanked everytime they would drop their kids off (ours was just one day a week but they also had a Parents Morning In program).

1. Thomas took his first steps on Friday...to my FIL!!! :rolleyes: I only caught the last step because he yelled, and DH missed it completely. Figures. But now he's taking a step or two here and there all the time now.
2. He says "Uh Oh"
3. He hopped this morning! Like, stood up in the middle of the room, hopped up once, laughed, then sat down and started clapping. It was too funny. I was hopping yesterday to make him laugh....

I heard from another couple today that they won't be able to make it to the party. I just don't want to get up on Saturday and find out that we will have more people than we have food for (since we will be buying the food either tomorrow or the next day). I have a feeling that will be what happens my luck.
I can't believe that tomorrow is DD's first birthday! :eek: It doesn't seem that it's been a whole year since she was born. I'll try and post my birth story tomorrow. I've got some cleaning/straightening up to do today and then we have to help DH's grandparents with the last little bit of things they have left to move into their new house. We are quite thankful that DH's stepgrandfather is still here with us as he was in a wreck last week (thrown out of his truck when a car stopped right in front of him).

Playhouse~Okay, since we've gotten this thing the family (and whole neighborhood) has been going nuts as to how they want to update it. Our neighbor can get some sheet metal to install underneath the overhang on the front. My dad wants to put guttering along the side to minimize water damage. FIL says he's going to buy windows and make a screen door for the front. DH wants to insilate and run wiring for a light and fan. He also want to put up sheetrock on the inside. And, when they get finished with all of that, it looks like I'll be putting the "woman's touch" on it, as DH wants it painted and as furnished as you can a 4'x6' space. :eek:

Just a quick post to drop-off Ava's stats. We had our 12 mos visit with our ped yesterday.
Height: 31 1/4 inches (97th percentile)
Weight: 20 lb 5 oz (50th percentile)
HC: 17 1/4 inches (10th percentile)
Doing well overall. Still funiture walking, but has stood independently a time or two. Says "uh-oh" all the time and "mama" intermittantly. Adjusting to cow's milk slowly, but almost exclusively drinking from sippy cups. Has a new rash on her face and right eyelid which may be eczema. We're trying some hydrocortisone for a week or so before seeing a dermatologist. Got her IPV and varicella vaccines and was not happy about that!

ETA-kelseyledare Aiden has a rash on his face and under his eye as well. I took him to the doc and they felt it was just heat rash but I am not so sure. I am going to see if it gets better soon and if not take him to a derm so let me know how Ava's is and if it gets bettter!

Happy Birthday Sarah!
Wow, so that's it. All of our kids are officially a year old now. Upward and onward to YEAR TWO!
I'm impressed by those one year stats! We've got a couple of tall gals here and a good sized noggin to boot (Ben's gotta put his genius brains someplace!). Aside from a couple of funky rashes, we have some wonderful healthy strong kids. What a terrific way to end the first year! Yay for us!
Hey Dreshny, who's that small adult you have in your avatar? Baby Asher is going to be jealous. ;)

Happy birthday Sarah!
I love all the new pics. Keep em coming. I can't believe all the babies are 1! It's so hard to believe. I remember eagerly checking the boards to see who was next! :D
Here's Ethan's 1 yr stats. I forgot to post a few weeks ago after his checkup.
Weight: 20lbs 9oz
Height: 29 3/4"
Head: 18 3/4"
Here's my vote for the title: "We're wonderful 1" for first pick, "Look out! We're toddlers now!" for second choice

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It has been a busy week and a half with family in town and getting ready for the party. DH was traveling on DS's birthday, but MIL was in town to help out which was nice. We didn't do anything to celebrate his birthday on the actual day since I didn't want to remind myself that DH was missing it and we had plenty of other festivities planned.
Zoo
My mom came to visit the weekend before DS birthday since she wasn't going to be able to make it for the party. We took DS to the zoo and had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect too (which can be really hit or miss with the San Francisco Zoo which is close to the coast and often has fog). DS seemed to really enjoy himself.
Party
We did a beach theme for the party. I figured it would a be low key theme and it would be easy to keep it simple. Well, somehow we ended up going all out. We had a wading pool, a sand and water table and a climbing structure/slide for the kids to play with (my original plan was just the wading pool...nice and simple). We served the food out of beach pails and had beach balls around the yard.
The big thing was that I repainted our deck. We intend to replace our deck sometime soon so I figured I'd just repaint it to make it look a little better in the short term. The first color I got (a yellowish tan) wasn't covering very well and I didn't have time to do 2 coats on the whole deck (I was repainting it the week before the party when we were having 90-100 degree weather...brilliant, eh?). I ended up getting a 2nd can of blue paint since it would cover better so I had a beach/water color scheme on the deck. It actually turned out really cool, but as I was doing it I was just laughing at myself about keeping the party simple this year.
We had about 20 people including 3 kids ranging from 3 months to 14 months. I was hoping to be able to share more photos, but at the rate I'm going right now (computer issues) I'm not sure when that would happen.

The party was supposed to start at noon but nobody showed up until 1pm. That was fine though because DS actually slept until 1:30pm anyway.
Titles
I'd vote for "Look out! We're toddlers now!" or Chasing Our Little "Ones"
Chasing Our Little "Ones" seems most appropriate right now since it feels like DS has become twice as active. The shortage of sleep I've had from party planning and entertaining could be related though.
tgr, great playhouse. Shylah is a lucky girl.

Weight: 22 lbs, 7 oz
Head: 18 1/2 inches

I've been reading, but haven't been doing SO. Bad me. So here goes...
Naamah: That play house is so cool. I remember a friend of mine, as a kid, had a similiar one and everyone in the nieghborhood was so jealous! LOL!
Meri:Glad your SGF is okay.
Roseanne:Love the new avatar! Asher looks so grown up. :)
hedgegirl: It sounds like your party was a success! How fun to have a blue deck...if only for a little while. ;) Your new avatar is adorable.
I'm hoping to take Collin on his first zoo trip next week when my mom comes to visit.
MrsChappy: Ben's head doesn't seem large to me? It's only an inch larger than Collin's and I think he has a peanut head! LOL!
Golfer:I remember peeking in everyday to see who was next, too. It was fun to see everyone's new babies and hear the stories.
Someday soon: I measure Collin at home, but I always get a shorter measurement. :rolleyes:
Things here are going well. I'm still pretty tired and have occasional days of total crappiness, but overall, I think I'm doing well. We had some rough days this week trying to get Collin back on his schedule after our trip to my parents, but I think we are finally there. I'm going away this weekend....alone!! Whew hoo! I'm nervous b/c I've never left Collin overnight, but he should be just fine with his daddy. I'm just going to visit some friends, but it is a much needed break.

Naamah: That playhouse is going to be deluxe when all it's "remodeling" is complete! You'll def have to post some photos.
Meri: Glad to hear your SGF is okay. Hope Sarah's party went well!
Roseanne: Love that new avatar! I agree that Asher does look very grown up.
hedgegirl: Your party sounds greats! So many activities for the kids. We took Ava to the zoo as an infant around 4 mos maybe, but would love to go now.
MrsChappy: I don't think those head sizes seem big to me either. I mean, babies do have big heads in proportion to their bodies so...
Julie: Hopefully, your weekend away will rest and recharge you! I bet Collin will do great on his "boy's night out" with daddy. I have to leave DD several times a month alone with DH overnight, and they really do pretty well. I can't say he always dresses her in the clothing of my choosing the next day, but... ;)
Liz: I have no idea where Ava is getting this height from, but I think maybe just a rapid growth spurt b/c she also gained 3 lb since her 9 mos WBV! Have I mentioned my baby likes table food just fine? I am 5'4" and DH is 6'0". Apparently, my mother was a tall infant/young child, but settled in around 5'4" as well.
Someday soon: I am lucky now if I remember to weigh DD on our scale at home every month. I notice that it's pretty inaccurate though since I weight myself and then pick her up.
Tomorrow is DD's last day in the infant room at daycare. We went to her parent-caregiver conference yesterday, and she got a good report. Both her caregiver and I were holding back tears (DH had thought for sure there would be water works). They are having a little party today so I sent vanilla cupcakes again. I've met her new caregiver in the creeper room several times and she seems great. I just know how DD loves her current caregiver (she went nuts hugging and clinging to her after we got back from vacation). There are three or so other babies moving to the creeper room so it's good she'll have some friends. Quite a few are skipping the creeper room and going straight to toddler paradise. We bought her little "mat" with attached pillow and blanket so I guess we're all ready. I am just bracing myself for the first time I get her early and see her sleeping on a little cot like such a big girl!

Home Measurements: Our length is always shorter than they get at the dr office. I don't bother doing weight at home since our scale isn't accurate enough, but I have weighed him at the post office and airport. There are also a couple of places around that have scales for weighing babies (one at a local kids shop, and another at the breastfeeding support office at the hospital). I haven't done it recently though and I should (to find out if DS is 20 lbs yet -- I doubt it).
Seems like I had more to say...oh well, too much multitasking will do that to me...next time.

HedgeGirl Sounds like it was a great party!
We've had a great week. DH has been home a lot and we've been swimming twice, out with friends, had home cooked meals as a family-it's been great!

Maggie: How did Ava do in her new room at DC? Love the pics. I'm so bad about getting my pictures off my camera and on to the computer.:o Collin did well with daddy this weekend.
Hedgegirl: I use to always take Collin to bfing support group meetings to get weighed. Now, I just don't think about it.
Nat:Glad you are able to have lots of time with DH this weekend. It sounds like you are having a good time.
I went away for the weekend and it was nice to get a little break. When I came home Collin broke my heart. He was so mad at me. As soon as he saw me, he started screaming and crying. He wouldn't let me pick him up. I just started to bawl! After about a half an hour of punishing me, he finally started being flirty with me. He brought me a book to read him and when I finished he gave me hugs and kisses. :p

Maggie,
OMG, Ava looks so grown up in her pig tails!! She looks so cute! Let me know if you figure out how to keep them in? ;) Love the family pic. Isn't it crazy that with as many pictures as we snap, we have so few family ones? Did Ava start in her new room yet, or does she start Wednesday after the holiday?
Nat,
I love that movie! It's so cute. Mmmmmm...ice cream!
Julie,
Ugh...how awful!! Sounds like Collin sure knows how to pull at his Momma's heart strings. That will teach you to go away for the weekend again. ;) :p
Walking
I think it's safe to say, we've got a walker! She's been taking a step here and there for about two weeks now, but she's started taking as many as 8 at a time. She looks so funny when she does it. She walks with her legs spread sooo far apart.

pigtails We haven't done full pigtails yet but I do halfway up ponytails and I use those plastic no pull rubberbands. You know the ones that look like braces rubberbands? :D They stay in Addie's hair and she can't pull them out yet!

Thankfully right now it's walking towards me, not running away from me. ;)
Nat,
Where do you get those rubberbands. I've seen them in kids hair before, but never around. They look like they'd do the trick.
Awww...all these little pig-tailed beauties are inspiring me to try them on Caroline. Everyone's babies look soooooo cute!

Natalie ~ How cute is Addie! I'll second Liz's question as to where to find those rubber bands? I was just using some clip-type bows and they didn't stay. I was mostly wondering if she had enough hair to get into pigtails. I am going to try your halfway up ponytails.
Liz ~ Nope, Ava's daycare was closed today for end-of-year thorough cleaning and then again tomorrow for the holiday. So she won't start until Wednesday. Congrats on your walking girl!
Julie ~ What a little stinker to withhold his affection! At least you know he is really attached and loves you- glad he and daddy had a fun time together. How sweet that he likes to read books. Ava still has a contest to see how fast she can turn the pages...
Have I mentioned that the daycare is teaching DD sign language? She knews "more" for food and "all-done" when finished eating. They're working on "eat" and "drink" now.

Natalie ~ Adorable photos of Addie! Her festive little outfit is too cute. I know you're loving all this time with DH!
Golfer ~ Look at your little guy go! I love the part when he waves! We've also started using dropshots to post videos for family, and I agree that it's great - so much easier!
Well, today is DD's first in the creeper room. So far, it's 9 am and she's the only one there. Guess all her little friends took an extra long weekend... At least she's getting some great 3-teachers-to-1-infant attention right now!
DH just called to warn me that our downstairs AC died last night. Yikes! He's put in a call to our repair place (last year, we had to replace some parts on our upstairs unit). They are a little backed up from the 4th, but hopefully, will be here before too long. I just hope it's a relatively cheap and quick fix!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!
Rosanne:As usual, a great shot of Asher! So adorable.
Maggie:Aren't the signs great. Collin understands more than he uses, but it really is so cool to know that he understands me. Sorry about your AC. What a pain.
Nat:Addie looks adorable all dressed for the holiday!
Golfer: Great video clip! Look at him go. :D
Nothing new to report here. Well, Collin has finally figured out how to put things "in" instead of always taking them out. hehe. He's also starting putting his peek-a-blocks in the spaces his toys have and is so proud of himself. I'm proud, too, of course! :p

Maggie~Sorry about the AC. Hope you get it fixed soon and don't have to deal with the heat for too long!
Shylah loved the fireworks!!! She jumped some on the loud ones, and it took a while for her to figure out to look up! LOL. :) She has also discover snappers - those little fireworks that you throw on the ground and pop! She went nuts over those and was so proud of herself when she got one to pop! I've got videos and pics yet to upload, so I'll be back later!

Just got back from my 3 week vacation last night and I am SO tired!! I have so much to catch up on!!
Brief highlights- (don't have much time to post)
Dougie got sick and threw up all over me on the plane.
Did good otherwise on the plane ride. Talked, smiled and said "hi" to everyone behind us.
Threw up on himself in the car ride back up here. Plus had 3 poops in span of 30 minutes!
FIL smoked his cigars the whole time (doesn't believe in second hand smoke) while we were in the car, house, camping trailer, basically everywhere.
He didn't sleep through the night once!
Dougies hair got all curly from the humidity.
We saw beautiful homes in Savannah and enjoyed to HOT weather!!
Pulled corn.
Dougie got to play with his cousins. He loved tackling his cousin Phillip. Phillip told everyone that Dougie was beating him up, but he kept telling Dougie to do it.
Dougie is trying to run. He's going a lot faster, but he is falling more.
Dougie sits down now when we ask him to so we can put on his shoes.
Went camping and off roading. DH car got a little off road scar and we had it fixed while in NC.
FIL made comments saying Dougie should be using a spoon already! (hello he's 13 months old!!)
FIL made comments everytime he cried. Like once he fell and hit his head on the floor at dinner and he started crying and my FIL said "god damn" like he was ruining dinner.
At at the crab shack I tried crawfish, mussels and crab legs for the first time.
Dougie got christened.
I got to see my g-pa, which Douglas is named after. I cried when we left his house though. I miss him!!
Turned Dougie car seat around!!! He is so much better! He drove 18 hours that way in 2 days and only cried when he was trying to roll over in his sleep. Turning him around was the best thing we did!!
That's a breif recap. Overall the trip was nice I enjoyed spending time with everyone, but I would have enjoyed myself more if I didn't have to breathe cigar smoke for days on end.

Ferris: It sounds like your FIL is a grumpy old man! Grrr... about the cigar smoke. Glad you got to see your g-pa and had a good time overall. Dougie looks like he had a good time. I love the one of him on the boat where he looks like he's going to fall asleep. :)
Maggie: Hooray for Ava doing well in her new classroom! And thank goodness the air is fixed. Our power went out last summer and it was horrible. Luckily, the basement (which is finished) stays relatively cool all of the time.
Naamah:Glad that Shylah liked the fireworks. Collin was in bed. I'm sure he would of hated them. He hates loud noises and cries at the vaccuum cleaner! LOL!
Am I the only one with a difficult child? It sounds like ya'll can take your kids anywhere and they sleep and are well behaved. I'm jealous. Collin is basically well behaved, but change his routine and AHHHHH
