Is anyone aware of the “net carb” formula for snack foods?

Reading labels, things are not adding up the “net carb” claims on the front…

I am trying to get a bunch of take along (non refrigerated) snacks that are diabetic friendly (low in sugar & carbs), anyone have good recommendations?

I am on a low carb diet and usually eat between 20-25 carbs per day. Some good LC snacks are peanuts (3 carbs/34 peanuts) or any of the Atkins granola bars or Advantage snacks. I usually carry one of the granola bars (usually around 3 carbs) with me at all times.

As far as I know, the net carbs refer to the number of carbs after the dietary fiber and sugar alcohols are removed. Personally, foods with a lot of sugar alcohols (usually in sugar-free candies/chocolates) give me terrible stomach problems so I eat them pretty sparingly. But Russell Stover makes a great line of sugar-free candies that taste pretty close to normal.
