beachbum - Yeah, that's been a problem;). I probably have 10 or more pictures on my desk at work alone! At home, you can find pictures of Lauren on about every bookshelf or mantel or room in our house! There are some that I'll leave up forever, like her 2 week old pictures. I just bought a frame set from Target.com to use as a collage on one of our living room walls. I spent hours deciding which pictures to put in it on Saturday and I have them all in so as soon as we have it on the wall, I'll post a picture! It's an 8x10, 4 5x7, 3 4x6 and 2 2.5x3.5. So, doesn't include all the pictures we've ever taken, but it did get a picture from pretty much each portrait session in each size (2weeks and 2, 4, 6, 8 months - except 2 months - those pictures s*cked and we'll never go back to Picture People.) Here's the set I got:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00007IP5R.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
Other than that, yes it tears my heart out, but I usually replace a lot of the pictures.

Total cuteness! I'm loving all of the baby pics!
Is anyone else finding this (8 mos) to be a really hard age? Or is it just DD? She is so active and into EVERYTHING, but doesn't have enough control to keep from hurting herself. She pulls herself up, but can't get down, she bonks her head, opens all of the drawers (going to get the safety drawer things today) and doesn't want to play with any of her toys. She is also back to needing to be nursed to sleep and is very cranky.
Up until now, I was loving each month more and more, but now I am dreaming about those days when she was 6 mos...
Anyway, sorry to be a downer, I'm just wiped out!
weight - sorry, can't help you here yet, b/c we are still nursing.
father's day - I have no idea! DH did really well for me this year, but mainly b/c I told him *exactly* what to give me! He only wants really expensive things, but I think he will be getting clothes.
pictures - you girls are adding to my guilt! (not your fault!!) I don't have any pictures of L up on the wall at home. Then again, I don't have ANYTHING up on the walls at home... and we've lived here for 1.5 years. I have several pics pinned on my bulletin board at work though... and we've never taken her to get her professional pics done. (I do have about a 1000 that I have taken myself) But seeing wildcat's really makes me want to go! Okay, I just went to charge up the camera, so maybe I will get some cute pictures today!
Hope everyone has a great day!

It's just gonna get worse too. I think the easiest age is brand newborn. Yea you're up round the clock, but all they do is eat, sleep, poop :D

It's just gonna get worse too. I think the easiest age is brand newborn.
So interesting because I totally absolutely disagree - I do not like the newborn stage at all, but love the mobile stages - yeah it is tiring, but I just think that they are so much happier when they can move (at least for both of mine.) Now my 2.5 yo never stops moving so it is hard to keep up but it keeps me young and skinny, right?:);) Maybe it easier this time because not only have I relaxed alot but my house is already pretty much baby-proofed so I am not that stressed.
pictures - I love that frame, wildcat and think that it would look great. I did a collage in our family room with pics of the kids. I went and bought a ton of frames and mats in different sizes and put several together on a couple of walls. I do rotate them occasionally but try to have one of each kid when they are newborns, 2-4 months, 6-9 months, 1 year and then about every year after.
wildcat - I love the b&w pics especially the one where she is looking down - very pretty!
dbers - cute - love the pants! Hope that she is feeling better.
Andrea - How is the seperation anxiety? I have to tell you now that Cailtin can crawl all over the place, she is so much happier and not nearly as needy.
So Caitlins favorite thing now besides crawling around and chasing Aidan or the dogs, is to climb up and down his bed. He has a mattress on the floor and she spent 10 minutes climbing up and down today - when she is coming down she either gets on her belly and crawls down or turns around and goes feet first. She is going to be buff if she continues to do this!
In other news we have tooth #2 - yikes! She had a rough night last night so I am hoping that we are done for a couple weeks. She is biting me a bit now when she nurses - it is not bad right now, but it is really going to hurt when she gets the top teeth.
We were at the park today and met a mom with a 4 week old - she was so tiny you almost forget that ours were ever that small.
I hope that you all are having a great long weekend! We are off to a BBQ with family and friends.

So poor Alex has Coxsackie (aka foot, hands and mouth disease).. so sad! We brought her to to Ped yesterday (yay for Sunday hours!) and once she looked in her throat, she knew immediately what it was. I guess it comes in outbreaks, and there's nothing to do except give Motrin/Tylenol, and keep her comfortable. She said it usually lasts 3-4 days. Her fever is still up and down, but I think it's been staying lower today. She's okay, pretty happy, until the medicine starts wearing off - then the sores in her throat really bother her - she won't eat or drink and she drools a lot.. once we can get the medicine into her, she's okay again. She's also sleeping terribly, and has ended up in bed with us for most of the night. Poor bub! I'm wondering if she'll be well enough to go to daycare tomorrow. I think there's a chance she might be - and the doctor said it's not an issue - but I'll see how she is tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Of course we ended up staying home :(

dbers - Poor Alex - that is terrible that there is nothing besides the Motrin that you can give her. I really hope that she feels better soon!

Has anyone heard from PhilNikki lately? It's been awhile since I've heard from her and she hasen't updated her LJ since mid May...very unlike her. I'm getting worried about her...

solong - I was just thinking the same thing...I know her sister was very sick...and she started a business - but you are right - she always kept her LJ up to date.
dbers - so sorry about Alex..poor thing. She is adorable though...LOVE the cute pants.
pixi - yes, I am finding this stage very demanding. I turned my back for one second the other day and someone - strech armstrong (AKA Ashley) found a tiny piece of plastic that I didn't even see and stuck it in her mouth and choked - I had to stick my finger down her throat which made her puke. I think I am going to have my hands full.
wildcat - Lauren is absolutely adorable!
Jo&Sean - how is Addison's eye?
Sorry if I missed anyone - I am exhausted..pretty lame weekend - DH is very sick - so we hung out around the house - I took A to see her Aunt and Uncle (DH brother) today and we hung out at my parents. Ashley had chicken this weekend and loved it. We have two more teeth - DH felt her top two this evening poking through.
Is anyone else really sad? - I am having a really hard time with Ashley becoming more independent...she doesn't really like to cuddle that much and now, even her nighttime bottle she takes sitting up - she won't let me rock her very much. I feel like the last nine months have just flown by and my little baby is becoming a little girl. Just thinking about her first birthday makes me cry....isn't that insane?
weight - I didn't breastfeed but I am finding the last 15 impossible to get off - I guess I need to find the time to exercise. Oh, and I have a huge spider vein on my calf..it is totally gross and I can't even look at it..it wasn't there before I got pregnant!

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We went up to our cabin for one day, then stopped by the "new" house on Sunday and then back here working on getting this house ready to list. DH and I are very stressed and taking it out on each other. Not a fun house right now, but it will get better soon.
Aimee has more teeth. She was really cranky and up a lot last night and I felt her mouth and she has another tooth that came through and another about to burst. That will make 4. Is anyone concerned about the placement of their kids teeth? Aimee's upper teeth (the ones that are just coming in) are really far apart. I mean, reallllllly far apart. I had a space between my teeth growing up (until braces and bonding) and hers looks way worse. Not that there is anything I can do at this point, but is anyone else concerned with their babies teeth?
Aimee has also decided that she has attitude. She now gets really ticked off if she can't reach a toy or if you take something away. Definitely will have my hands full in the coming months.
Wildcat - Laurens pics are just wonderful.
Alisonco - I know what you mean about how small they were. We just saw a friend with an 8wk old and she seemed so tiny. It's hard to believe that was just 6 months ago.
Cr8nme - So glad Noelle's naming cerimony went well.
Dbers - Yuck for the foot, hand and mouth disease. That sounds horrible.
Well, better get back to DH so we can argue some more about getting the house ready. I want the next few weeks to just fly by...... Anyone want to buy a house in Walnut Creek??????

Brink - sorry about the house stress. Ashley is also in teething he11 - up all night last night - top two are coming down - which makes four. And yes, I am concerned...it seems the top teeth are coming in way farther back than the bottom ones - like she will have a severe underbite. Ashley also gets major attitude if I take something away from her or if she sees something she wants and cannot reach it.
Cr8nme - glad the ceremony went well.
She has also become an absolute nightmare to put down - for naps and at night - she screams, kicks her feet, thrashes her arms in the air and refuses to lay down...she also gets p*ssed when I try to put her clothes on...I am starting to worry about her 'attitude'...hopefully it will pass.

gee is my kid the only one without teeth yet?
otherwise he's doing good. Doing the army crawl but not quite the full crawl yet. Had 3 good nights of sleep and last night sucked so we're on to the bad nights again. He seems to flip-flop a few days good, a few days bad. He's also developed a few fun little quirks I laugh at--he'll crawl over to his pacifier and pick it up with his mouth. When I put my toddler on the floor to change his diaper Alex crawls over and tries to pull the clean diaper away. He also crawls up to the dog and pulls his ears all the time. He also seems to hate fruit but love veggies. Weird.

Beachbum -- Glad you enjoyed the TEA sale. Now I wished I had picked something up for DS. But then again, I was just saying to myself recently that I should stop buying him clothes. Plus, I've been eye-ing umbrella strollers recently. Just gotta pick and choose, KWIM.
dbers -- Sorry to hear about the disease. Hope little Alex recover quickly and feel better soon.
Brink -- Just wanted chime in say that I had the exact same concern when Max's two front teeth were coming in waaayy far apart. You could stick another tooth in between them!! But then as the ones on the side (next to the two front teeth) came in, they started to close in a bit more. Now it doesn't look that bad at all. In fact, I'm thinking that as the other side teeth come in, it'll help push everything together. Hope that makes you feel a bit better. :)
baby's independece -- cr8zy, I totally know what you mean about our babies not needing us as much anymore. It's exciting to see DS learn new things, acquire new motor skills, have his own opinion, but it's also a bit of a bitter sweet for me to know that he doesn't need me as much for everything anymore. Once in a while, I'll think, gosh, before I know it, he'll be going off to college! A little silly, I know. :P

Wildcat - Lauren's pics are beautiful! She is very photogenic. I love that collage frame from Target.com - I was eyeing that myself for our stairwell.
Dbers - Poor Alex!! That sounds awful. Did the dr say how she got it? I don't know anything about that illness...
Kim - Sorry your DH was sick all weekend. He is probably sick from being stressed out all the time (reminds me of my DH right now!). I am sorry that you are feeling sad. I am lucky because despite Addy being pretty independent, she still loves to cuddle with mom to take a nap and especially in the evenings. I feel really lucky and don't take a minute of it for granted.
Thanks for asking about Addy's eye - it is WONDERFUL! It has never looked better :)
Cr8nme - Glad the naming ceremony went well and that you had a good time :)
Brink - I can't even imagine getting your house ready to sell right now. It will be over with soon!
Hmbay - That is pretty funny that Alex doesn't like fruit much. Hopefully that means he won't have too much of a sweet tooth!
Solongtogo - Yeah for the no shots! Glad the appointment went well.
Age Question - Even though it is more tiring from keeping up with Addy, I love this age. She is so active and wants to be involved with what we are doing. I love chasing her around, watching her explore and get really excited when she realizes she can do something on her own. I don't like to see her fall though...breaks my heart!
Teeth question - Addy's bottom teeth are spaced quite a bit apart but I am not too concerned about it. (or I am in denial...)
Babies with Attitude - It must be the age or something. Addy gets really ticked off when I go to change her - her diaper or her clothes. She really dislikes me putting any kind of shirt on her. Hopefully it doesn't mean she would rather be a streaker....
We had a pretty mellow weekend. We just bummed around the house - well, we as in DH and I. Addy on the other hand went non-stop all day, everyday! She goes and goes and goes. Finally yesterday afternoon, I got her to take a two hour nap for the first time. She is doing really well with pulling herself up onto furniture. Her favorite is one of the lodge pole dog beds. She was standing there jumping up and down (yes, she will grab the rail and jump up and down!) and she fell into the cushion. The first time, she wasn't too sure what to think and cried a little. The second, third, fourth times (and more) she just laughed and squealed. It was too funny. Seeing her covered in dog hair wasn't too funny but she could care less. She also can pull herself up at the wall...don't know how because she did it each time when I had my back turned but I turn around, and she is standing with her hands on the wall. Hmmm...
She also has this fascination with her tounge. She will crawl all over with her tounge hanging out making the funniest noises.
She has slept like poo the last few nights - up every couple of hours. I think she must be teething again but I can't feel anything new yet.
Her eye looks amazing - I just can't believe how much of a difference it made and how quickly it cleared up.
Hope everyone has a good Tuesday - I am going in to talk to my boss finally. Last week was crazy so I never got a chance to give him the ultimatum: either let me go to three days per week or I am done. Heehee...

Jo&sean - It's pretty common I guess - especially in daycare/school, etc. Sounds worse than it is I think!!
She's doing better - no fever since yesterday, but I think her throat still bothers her some...Thanks for all the well wishes everyone!
Hmbay - No teeth here either :D

attitude~ Noelle has a major attitude and she yells then she just pops that thumb in her mouth. I have been reading to her a lot lately and all she wants to do is rip the pages and when I take her hands away she head butts me in my chest and scoots down/falls out.
Age~ I have a love/hate relationship with this age. I find that she is happier now that she can get around and I love that she is progressing so well however like others have said I really just want to cuddle her sometimes which is hard to do right now. However she does like to kiss a lot:)

Anyhoo -- glad to hear that babies seem to be on the mend! Loving all of the pics, as usual! Ava has her 9 mo pics soon, and we will be taking her to Sears this time just to change it up a bit. I am getting a pic of Ava in her OSU outfit for daddy for Fathers Day and he is getting some kind of play for his i pod. I have no idea what else yet though.

No crawling for us either. Or teeth.
And Ava, true to form, is quite the drama queen. She pitches fits if you take anything away from her. I am just assuming she overreacts because she isn't mature enough yet to understand how to control frustration, etc. but oh my goodness its ridiculous!!!
I think I mentioned it in my other post, but I am getting Phil a player for his I pod and a picture of Ava in her Ohio State Buckeye finest for Father's Day. Reminds me...I need to book her appointment at Sears! 3

Nikki - Those are really cute pictures - it looks like you enjoyed yourselves! The one of you and A on the beach is great!
dbers - How is A today?
attitude - Um yeah! Last week we were at playgroup and she got ahold of the pink stick of sunscreen and freaked - I mean throwing herself back and screeching when I took it away when we got in the car. The throwing herself back like a little drama queen happened again today.
Father's Day - I still haven't decided. DH has been wanting to get his windows tinted so I may look into that - otherwise I am clueless.
So today Caitlin crawled all the way down the hall, pulled herself up onto the brick fireplace and went to grab a sippy up there (not her's, Aidan's). Once I got to her and took it from her (it had milk it it) she threw herself back in disgust and almost hit her head on the wood floor. She is a crawling fool and is SO happy now that she is mobile - she almost needs a helmet though:)

Nikki - great pics of Ava on vacation. Looks like she didn't think Mickey was soo cool.
dbers - Not only does Aimee not crawl, but she doesn't even roll over! She is progressing in every other way, so I'm not worried. She doesn't even try to roll over. I'm sure she could because she's got great muscles, but I think she just doesn't want to. I'm sure one day I'll turn around and she'll be walking across the room.
fifibee - thanks for the info on the teeth. I'll wait for the others to come in before I get worried (not that I can do anything about it anyway). I'll just start saving for braces now.

Brink - I forgot to comment on the teeth thing. My Ped and dental hygenist both said that it is better if the baby teeth have gaps in between then. That way the adult teeth usually have enough room to come in without being too crowded. I have a small mouth, my baby teeth were close together and I had to have 6 adult teeth pulled when I was around 12 to make room.

Hi, all!
Catching up....
Diane- oh MAN! What Alex has sounds awful! Poor baby - hope she's feeling better. Nice to know the kid can still work the tushie pants even when sick! Ha! Those are adorable. Where did you get them?
Widcat- Lauren is so stinkin' CUTE!!! That HAIR!!!! I just ant to hug her!
Nikki- Love the pics of Ava! The one of her freaking out at Mickey Mouse is a hoot!
Alison- thank you for asking - Naomi's seperation anxiety seems to be gone for the moment.
Cre8nme- Oh, yeah, I SO bid on and won that apple dress on Ebay! I bought it in 18-24 months for next summer. Hopefully I'll still be into the edible fashion motif at that point!;)
Teeth- none.
Crawling- all over the place! Actually half the time scooting around on her belly, crawling the other half.
Pulling up- just once, a few weeks ago.
Father's Day- I bought Rich the Collecters DVD of the 1986 METS World Series. He had made a comment to me a while back about wanting it.
Attitude- Well, she was gnawing on a bagel the other day and I took it away to get the soggy parts off so that she wouldn't swallow them and choke. The little brat made an angry noise, grabbed it back, and hit me with it! Attitude? Ohhhh, yeah!

Thanks so much for all the compliments on Lauren...seeing all the pics of our adorable babies in here is one of my favorite parts...they're the most beautiful babies ever!:D
We've decided to change daycare providers. We've been using an in-home lady, but she recently had to move (long story) and she's currently in an apartment in a "not great" area of the city and the hallway always smells like smoke. Also, I think Lauren is getting to the age that she can get some benefit out of some more structure. We spent the day touring the places on the top of our list and have made a choice. There is a brand new center (but established in other areas of the metro) that has space open in the infant room...and it's the ONLY infant room I've ever liked and we've seen a ton. Then she'll move over to the prep school when she's 1 (also brand new building across the street from the infant center). I think we're doing the right thing, but it's hard to know for sure. I'm just not looking forward to telling our in-home person tomorrow:(.
crawling - No crawing here either! I'm not sure what to call what it is she is doing...she'll be on her blanket playing and she'll end up moving several feet...scooting on her butt maybe? She's leaning so far forward and walking out on her hands, but when she ends up on her knees, she just goes down to her belly and rolls to her back (still doesn't like her belly). Her favorite thing lately is to roll back and forth, back and forth (belly to back). She'll do it for 15 minutes straight!
pulling up - Nope! If we're sitting beside her, she'll use us to pull up onto her knees or something, but not pulling up to standing or even wanting to!
teeth - Just the 2 bottom ones. I think the top 2 have been working for awhile and she'll have days I think they're causing some pain but then stop again.
attitude - OMG yes!! If we take something away from her, she acts like the world has ended until we give it back or distract her by giving her something different! Hopefully it's temporary!
Fathers Day - No clue yet, looking forward to the ideas I get here;).
Andrea - Your fruit obsession is cracking me up!!
Nikki -Looks like you had a lot of fun on your vacation!! Ava is a cutie as always!
cr8nme - Sounds like you have an adventureous little girl there!

cr8nme - Adorable clothes!!
Pixie - so glad you had a great day....and yes, even on bad days, it is still pretty good!
wildcat - good luck with telling your provider - I am sure it will be hard! Ashley also does the leaning forward, gets on her knees and then chickens out and flops back...yet somehow she manages to get all over the place.
Andrea - the fruit obsession is cute!! Loved the dress!! I am glad that I am not the only one buying clothing for next year...how is Naomi sleeping these days? Is she in her crib? Ashley was - but now with her top two teething coming through (could be four..but she won't let me in her mouth to see) she has been back in bed with me the past few nights.
Alison - thanks for the info on the teeth - that does make sense!
So glad to know that Ashley isn't the only one with major attitude. Totally agree with nikki - they are too young to know better but boy is it frustrating. Yesterday she saw me fixing her dinner and I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for her- she screamed at the top of her lungs and slammed her hands down on her highchair until I fed her...
Sleeping like cr*p again - I sure hope it is the teeth - she was doing so well and now I feel like we are back to square one - she was up about 7 times last night between 8-1 and finally at one, I just put her in bed with me...totally frustrating.

i have to say that while i enjoyed being a the beach (the weather was perfect) it was not really much of a vacation at all. zoe was on amoxicillin and it gave her terrible diarrhea and even worse diaper rash. it was just awful. she was pooping all day long. so she wasn't at her best although i have to say that she is quite a trooper and only got upset when she knew a diaper change was coming. she had her first "big girl" bath and loved it. though she liked it a little less the next day when we put jake in there with her... he promptly started to spash and kick and knocked her over. jake was all over the place getting into everything. they liked swimming in the pool and thought the beach was so-so. and they didn't eat the sand. they loved loved loved the baby pool that i brought and gladly shared it with their friends. well, my friends' kids ;) one of them announced that she's pg again so that was really exciting.
we got back saturday night (yay for no traffic) and got up the next morning to go to my family reunion. we were there all day and while the babies napped, it wasn't nearly long enough. monday was brunch at my mom's (bad naps there too) and i could tell that they were coming down with something. yesterday was no fun because both were sick and exhausted from the weekend. they slept quite a bit, ate really well BUT are much better today it seems.
oh, and jake got quite a shiner--his first!--from falling down the stairs at my friend's beach house  he was testing the waters and fell down only one step before i caught him so i didn't freak out much. i figure it's the first of many.

father's day dh is probably getting a punching bag and a book.
teeth jake-6 zoe-2
pulling up jake-yep. he spent all week practicing and figuring out the most graceful way to get down. i think he's finally decided on a technique because he's got it down now. zoe-nope
crawling jake-everywhere. zoe-pulls herself around like she's been shot in the leg and has no arm...lol. she pulls herself with her left arm/elbow and pushes with her right foot. seriously, it cracks me up.

Ha! I hope my kid is injesting half as much vitamin C as she's wearing!

She's actaully pretty sick - at least she was last night. Coughing so much it was making her throw up. Poor kid.:(
Wildcat-- good luck with the new daycare! I'd be unhappy having to fire someone as well.
Charmcity:eek: Look at him go up those stairs!!! Yikes!
Cre8nme- Oooo, CUTE clothes! I bought that first shirt for Naomi as well.
Kim- Thanks for asking. She is now consistantly napping in her crib, at least. Varies from 20 minutes to an hour and a half, but I'll take it. Nights are better. We start her in the Pack-&-Play by our bed around 7:30, and she'll stay in there until from 1-3AM, when she gets up to eat, and most of the time she'll then come into bed with us. Once or twice I've been able to get her back in the PNP after her bottle, but it's a battle. I hope that Ashley goes back to sleeping well soon! I'm so glad you had SOME relief for a while!!!!

Andrea - how cute - she is just adorable and I love the outfit...sorry to hear that Naomi is sick. Glad the sleeping is a bit better - it was baby steps for us as well and I am praying when these teeth pop through that she will revert back to getting up only once.
Charm - wow - look at Jake go!! Sorry the beach was not much of a vacation - I can totally relate. Where did you go? We are looking to go to the ocean in August - hubby wants to do Ocean City...I am on the fence and would like to try something different. Sorry the beans are sick.

The little brat made an angry noise, grabbed it back, and hit me with it!
Andrea - This absolutely made me laugh:) I love the fruit outfit!
cr8nme - Oh my, I must have that denim mini skirt - where did you get it?
cr8zy - We had crap sleep too - I think that A and Caitlin were up about the same amount of times. We should start a hotline where we can all each other at 2am for support!
charmcity - That pic is funny - our first floor is hardwood but luckily the stairs are carpet or I would be so afraid for my kids. Cailtin likes to try and climb the stairs also but only gets up 2 right now. I hope that Z is feeling better!
wildcat - That is great that you were able to find a center that you really like - I hope that the transition is easy and smooth!
pixie - You weren't a downer, you were just being honest!
I hope that you all have a great day. We are off to playgroup and watch the Thunderbirds fly for the Air Force Graduation. My mom lives up on this huge hill and they basically fly right over her backyard.

wildcat Sure hope everything works out for you as far as you daycare sitch goes. I would have a pit in my stomach too, but you are doing what you feel is best for Lauren (who is SO stinkin cute in those pics, btw..I wish Ava's hair was as tame as hers!).
charm sorry about jake's shiner. But yeah, they are definately going to have plenty of falls in their life!
Andrea Ava has some of the fruit stuff from Gymbo this year! I love it too! :) :)

Got to daycare this morning and they told me that yesterday, Aimee ROLLED OVER - I can't believe it took my daughter 8 months to figure this out. She hasn't done it since, but at least I know she can! So sorry she was in daycare and we missed it. I'm sure there will be many things that they get to experience for the first time that we miss..... so sad.
I think Aimee is getting sick AGAIN. She had a cough this morning that sounded a little like croup. We'll see how tonight goes before I call the ped.
Charmcity - welcome back from vacation. I wish it was a better one.
Andrea - go away coughing! Aimee does the same thing where she coughs so hard that she throws up. No fun in the middle of the night.
Wildcat - good luck with the new daycare and telling your provider. Hopefully she will understand.

pixie i meant to respond to you about not really liking this age... i have some troubles with it too. especially when we were on vacation. it was just constant chasing. it's less of a problem with zoe because she's not nearly as mobile as jake and he just progressed so fast that i wasn't expecting (or ready!) for it. but at the same time, i love watching them delvelop and explore. and it's nice that they can come to me now. the other night, jake woke up really stuffy and i brought him into the guest bedroom to sleep and he crawled up on me and put his head down. when he was really out, i put him next to me and he immediately got back on me and snuggled. so freakin' cute! of course, i woke up with snot all over me ;) however, the zoe-thing won't let me hold her unless she's crazy tired. it makes me want to cry.
cr8zy we were in bethany for 6 days and rehoboth for 3. i really prefer both to oc, personally. smaller, more families, less crowded, better food. plus, there's the rehoboth outlets for rainy days ;) we did really well there because of all the memorial day sales.
andrea i bought zoe some cute fruity pjs at the gap outlet that were on sale. these (http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6470&pid=377338) aren't the same, but they're on sale too ;)

do any of your kids do this? if zoe is trying to "crawl" to a toy and something gets in her way, she grabs it and tosses it aside. it cracks me up.
oh, and i forgot to mention... the fighting over toys has begun! it's funny how innate jealousy is. they climb all over each other to get to toys. it's even funnier to watch them race to toys.

Alex isn't crawling yet - anyone else? She just started getting up from laying down to sitting.. no pulling up.
Zach has been crawling for a couple weeks, but he just recently was able to get himself into a sitting position. (He could sit earlier, but only when I put him there.) He's pulling up and cruising along, and has 7 teeth. I have a feeling though that it'll be awhile before he's talking. He babbles, but it doesn't make any sense.
Attitude-Zach haaates getting his diaper changed or getting dressed. It is an all out war any time I have to do either of these things.

No crawling here either - she just started rolling. However, I have told all the daycare teachers - if she crawls there first - don't tell me. So far, she rolled over first with MIL, her teacher felt her bottom teeth before I did and told me, DH felt her bottom teeth and told me....I feel like I've missed too many firsts.

The thread was moving fast today :)
Wildcat - Good luck telling your daycare provider tomorrow.
Nikki - You guys look like you had a blast on vacation. I love the pic of Ava with Mickey :) Priceless!
Charm - Glad you had a nice vacation. I can't believe Jake was going up the stairs! What a great picture that is. Sorry about his shiner though - but like you said, it will be the first of many.
Cr8nme - Love the clothes! Too cute.
Brink - Yeah for Aimee rolling over - sorry that it had to be at daycare though. I bet she will show off for you soon!

YES! It is the funniest thing ever!! She tried to do it with the cat though and he wasn't too sure what to think. She got a little frustrated trying to move him too...Silly girl.
We just finished our four week signing course last night and I am so glad we took it - we learned so many useful signs plus received dvd's to help us remember how to do them properly. Addison officially recongizes the sign for "bottle" now. She hasn't started signing it back but if she is crying and we sign it for her, she stops and we know she needs something to eat. It is really cool! We are working on "eat", "more" and "all done" too plus a few animal signs here and there. I can't wait until she signs back!!

no forward crawling either but 6 teeth! - From what I'm reading here, I guess I should be enjoying this time when I don't have to run around monitoring where he is. Kaito's got the space in between his front two teeth too. Brink, I'm so glad you brought up the space issue as I was also wondering about this.
sharecare - we decided to do sharecare starting the end of June. It worked out really nicely because it's our same nanny and the other family just lives two blocks away. We did a trial yesterday and the nanny looked more tired than usual but overall I think the experience was positive for both babies (Kaito is 8 months and the other little girl is 12 months) and for our nanny.
charmcitygirl - Jake on the stairs - wow.... can't believe just how mobile he is. Kaito's started doing this thing where he stands holding on to the table. Then he thinks it's fun to let go and have me or his dad catch him. One of these days he's going to learn the hard way that when you free fall there may not be someone to catch him... I guess I'll just hope that he does that on a soft surface and not a hard one.
philnikki - love the pic of ava in the mickey mouse hat!
age - I like the 8 month mark very much compared to the newborn stage. I feel like I get what Kaito wants when he cries. He also has a pretty predictable schedule... Keep in mind he's not really mobile yet : )
photos on the wall - Okay, so I have 7 photos of Kaito on a wall and many pictures of him in frames on our bookshelf. My DH makes fun of how many pictures I have of him. I just put pictures in frames maybe two weeks ago, though. Until then I had nothing in a frame! I just went crazy at the frame store...

childproofing safety gates - Okay, all you mommies with mobile babies..... here's the question: I need to start child proofing because we're starting this sharecare at our place. We need to block off a section of our room with a heavy piano/keyboard and maybe a bookshelf as well. I've looked online at the options and it looks like maybe a "hearth" gate is what we need. But I did want to check in with any of you who were in similar situations.....what do you do if you need to block off a section of the room that isn't in a straight line (e.g. wall to wall?) Also, any preference for pressure vs. mounted safety gates?? Thanks a bunch for letting me know your experience.
By the way, I just want you to know that you all are a very important part of my life. When I was talking to my DH about all of this, he was the one who suggested: "why don't you ask the September mommies"

Hi Guys!
Awfully busy yesterday, eh? :)
DH had the day off and we went to the zoo. DH works every other Saturday, but I've talked him in to taking Tuesdays off all summer. Yippee! I hope he will stick to it.
We had fun at the zoo, although Henry enjoyed watching the kids more than the animals.
I got a new car and am so excited. Henry seems to like it better because he can see outside more. I am having a hard time dealing with the no mirror situation (see main board for the problem).
My mom is a teacher and is finally out for the summer. It is fun because she can spend more time with Henry. She is obsessed. :D Steve and I joke that she is reliving the happiest days of her life (when I was a baby) with Henry. She loves taking him grocery shopping because she bumps into a lot of people. :p Seriously though I'm so glad that Henry will have a relationship with my mom outside of the one I have with her. They will have their own relationship....Three of my four grandparents died when I was a kid/before I was born so I feel like a got cheated.
Crawling/pulling up So funny. Henry was pulling up before he crawled. He has been crawling for a month/6 weeks or so. Luckily he figured out how to sit down from the standing up position pretty quickly.
As for crawling and moving toys--Henry picks them up and carrys them with him. Sometimes he will be crawling with one in his mouth like a dog. It is hilarious!
TeethWe have 2, and are getting more right now. Poor boy has been so cranky. I can see one coming, but his gums are so bumpy there must be more coming soon.

Jake--holy cow! Mommy is has her hands very full!

Happy Anniversary Cr8n!!
gates We are going to put ours up this weekend as well though Court is not crawling yet either. My daycare provider who has three kids of her own said that the best route was the screw in the wall type, because even though you put the screw in the wall, you can patch that up when you remove the gate. She said the pressure mounted kind will ruin your walls. Anyone have any other input on this?

I've also heard the screw in gates are the way to go - a few friends have told me the pressure mounted ones don't work and do mess the walls up. I also have an issue with our steps - we have wood railings that are poles - how in the heck do I put a gate on them?
Happy Anniversary Cr*nme!!
Beach - I think it is great that your mom takes such an interest. I also lost all of my grandparents and a very young age and didn't really have a relationship with any of them. I think it is very important to have that kind of bond with grandparents which I encourage..even though MIL is crazy.
What kind of car did you get?

cr8zy - Are our girls related? We had 4 really bad nights also, but C slept from 7-4 last night and then until 7 after she ate!
gates - I use both, but I do love the hardware mounted one. I have the one where you just need one hand to undo it (some you can do with your feet) and it is convenient when you have things in your hands. I use the pressure ones when I need to keep her somewhere (like the bedroom or bathroom) for just a bit - I have never had it leave marks, but our door frames are wood, not white.

Happy Anniversary to all who have anniversaries today!
gates--we have a pressure mounted one. It did take the paint off but you can touch up paint. Otherwise it hasn't done any damage to our walls. However the one I had that worked GREAT Dh's friends wrecked because they were too stupid to figure out how to use it and they no longer make that particular gate. the one I bought to replace it with SUCKS (the $20 safety 1st pressure mounted one--stay away from it).
cr8zy--yay for one good night of sleep.
also have an issue with our steps - we have wood railings that are poles - how in the heck do I put a gate on them?
One Step Ahead has these but you could make something similar yourself instead of ordering it. I'm going to need something like this myself for my stairs going up--I have a gate for the basement steps but I have a post on one side of the up stairs.

Ugh - just got a call from our dog groomer and our dogs were in a fight over the weekend, and I thought they were ok but it looks like one of them has a nasty puncture wound that I didn't see. I"m a horrible mom! I'll be taking her to the vet this afternoon.
Jo&sean - yeah for the signing going well. We use "milk" and "eat" for Aimee. She definitely recognizes them and we think she sometimes does the milk sign.
Cr8nme - Happy Anniversary!
Cr8zy and Alisonco - Yeah for good night sleep. Hope you get another one tonight.
Bath - This lazy mommy doesn't want to bend over the bathtub, so she gets hers in the kitchen sink. We remodeled our kitchen and have one of those really great extra deep large sinks, so it works out really well. Although, she tried to stand up today and slipped and bonked her head on the countertop, but I guess that could have happened in the big bath too.

Happy Anniversary Cr8nme :)
Brink - Sorry about your dog! Hope she is ok.
Cr8zy & Alison - congrats on a good nights sleep. Perhaps they were so worn out from not sleeping well the past few nights?!
Beachbum - That is great that your mom has so much interest in Henry. I wish my mom lived closer so Addy could have that bond with her grandmother. DH's parents are close but they don't have too much interest in her yet. Makes me sad.
gates - We got a couple of pressure mounted gates (I think they are North States supergates III) and we have been really pleased with them. They haven't left a mark on the door frames (yet). They are easy to use and really secure.
bathtubs - We did away with the baby tub awhile ago. Addy now takes baths in the big tub like since she is sitting up well. We fill it with only an inch or so of water and I always sit on the edge of the tub with her so I am right there to help her. It has made a world of difference for her - she used to HATE taking baths. It was complete with screaming and crying but now, she really enjoys her baths and can splash all she wants without making a mess for mom to clean up. :)
So last night, Addison showed me that she can stand up by holding onto something with only one hand and holding on very lightly! She actually stood on her own for a few seconds while I was playing with her. I had my hands right there to steady her but she pushed them out of the way and stood there grinning like crazy. It is amazing to see her stand and move around with such confidence :)

cr8nme - I weighed Cailtin yesterday at home and she was just about 15 pounds too - N isn't the only one in the "petite with attitude" crowd.
Brink - I hope that your dog is OK!
jo - Cailtin is starting to recognize the sign for milk and it is so neat. I have started doing "more" during meals so we will se when she picks that one up.
bath - We still use the seat that attatches to the side of the tub, but Caitlin is also fine just in the tub. I have a non slip mat, but I also put a washcloth under her butt to make sure that she doesn't slip.
So we were at story time today and there was a little girl there that was about 12m. She and Caitlin kept eyeing each other and then they crawled towards each other and the other girl gave Caitlin a big open mouth kiss on her head. Caitlin looked at me and almost started crying but then she reached out and pulled the little girl close to her and smiled. Then Aidan came over and said "mommy, why is that baby kissing sissy?":)

bath - We're still using the infant tub in the kitchen sink, the same one Aandrea posted! Lauren is small so she still fits:). We started thinking about the next one last weekend and looked at some of those blow up ones and didn't know whether or not it was needed or if she could just go into the big tub so I was going to come in here and ask you girls and forgot! Thanks Andrea!;) I think we'll wait until we absolutely have to use the big tub, I can imagine it's not very comfortable bending over like that!
cr8nme - Lauren is about 16.5 pounds, so not as tiny as Noelle, but on the smaller side as well. She hasn't really gained a whole lot in the last 2 months (maybe 0.5 pound), which seems a little odd to me considering how much more she's eating and the fact she's not moving yet! Is she going to *drop* weight when she starts crawling? (and on a side note - thanks for stepping up for admin duties, I have about 2 minutes of free time a day and I like to use that to shower!hehe).
signing - We've been using "more", "eat", and "all done" with Lauren since she as about 3 months old and she definitely knows those. There's been a few times we thought she was trying to sign "eat", but nothing definite yet. Hopefully in the next few months which will be so rewarding so that we don't feel like we've been signing for months and months for nothing!!;)
So, we told our daycare provider yesterday and confirmed Lauren's start date with the new school, 6/12. I'm really excited for her, I think she'll have a lot of fun and I'll have more peace of mind with the environment she's in. I really hope it was the right decision. I guess I'll never know.
Here's Lauren's cute thing of the day (since I loved hearing cr8nme and alison's! When I do my make-up in the morning, I sit Lauren beside me on the floor in front of the full length mirror and let her play with my make-up bag and all the make-up inside it (except for the things with small caps of course and I keep a close eye on her!). Today, she kept scooting forward until she was practically touching the mirror and then put her hands on the mirror and leaned forward and gave the *baby in the mirror* a huge open mouth kiss. Cracked me up.

Henry also sits right in the tub. I got a non slip mat for the bottom of the tub. Even though it looks odd I also put one side of the tub so it hangs into the tub slightly and out slightly. Steve has a situation where Henry was standing up and nearly slipped. These mats have worked well for us.
What kind of car did you get? 2007 Lexus RX 350. It is awesome! I'm totally excited!
GateWe had to rig that same gate situation for our stairs. We also had to put an extra piece of baseboard on at the bottom and a wood block on the wall side to make it work. It seriously was like a 3 hour project because I made DH paint the wood pieces so they weren't so obvious.

Scary stuff So we had a major choking incident today. Scared us to death. His mouth was open and he wasn't making any noise then he got the panic look. DH swooped him up and pounded his back--then he cried. I was so scared. (It was a small piece of watermelon).
I went outside to get something from the diaper bag in the car. When I came back Henry had pulled up on the door, so I couldn't get back in. He is standing there at the french door with both hands on it supporting himself crying because he wants me. I finally had to slowly open the door (and he 1/2 fell 1/2 sat down). After I was back in it was funny--but not at the time.

Cre8nme- Naomi is about 16-16.5 pounds as well. You, Wildcat and I have girls who are small but mighty! In fact, I'm thinking of a new tub not because she's growing out of it size wise, as activity wise. That puny tub is no match for her!

safety gates - thanks for the info. We may get a "hearth gate" that curves around the keyboard but DH wants to see whether we need it.

Beach - totally jealous about the car. I have a mat on the bottom but that is a great idea to hang it on the side - I will try that - she scares the crap out of me when she stands and she doesn't like anyone holding her hands now. Yikes about the choking!! How scary! Cute story about the French doors!!
wildcat - yeah for the new school. If you feel good about it, then it was the right decision. I think this is one of the hardest things about being parents - making decisions and the wondering whether we've made the right choices. I am sure the signing will pay off - they teach this at Ashley's school and I see the older kids (1 year olds) signing all the time...totally cute!
Brink - sorry about the dog. How is the pooch doing?
I love all the cute baby stories!! I am so bummed that Ashley isn't 'kissing' yet. Her boyfriend is being moved up to her room on Monday - I am so happy that most of the babies she started out with are now being bumped up to her room - it is so cute that they all seem to love one another!
Cr*ppy sleeping last night- and I looked at her teeth - poor thing is getting FOUR on the top and it looks like her two side bottom teeth are getting ready to pop as well. I slept with her last night and she seemed to be in so much pain - she slept very restless - I gave her motrin but it didn't seem to help.
I am going to try to take A to get nine month photos this weekend - nine months - where did nine months go??
Happy Friday to everyone!

Just dropping off Ava's stats:

Weight - 21 pounds
Both were 90th percentile according to our ped.

question
i am finally spending some time updating the baby books and came across the pages that i've been putting off doing and now i need help. it's the page that asks about popular culture. what did you guys put for these (or do you know of a website that gives this info):
- popular tv shows
- popular actors/movies
- music
- sports stars
- cars
- best selling books
- fashion trends
i have to ask because the things i like may not really be what's popular, therefore, not giving a good indication of popular culture at the time of their birth.

- popular tv shows Desperate Housewives and Survivor
- popular actors/movies B. Pitt/Angelina Jolie/Tom Cruise/Katie Homes
- music this is tough-everyone likes different things
- sports stars Tiger Woods?
- cars Hummer
- best selling books Nicholas Sparks
- fashion trends the 70's are back!

Hi everyone! I hope that you all are having a great weekend.
So Cailtin got her 9 month b-day present a bit early and she loves it! I highly recommend it. It can be hung from a tree or porch overhang and it only cost $25! It has a nice lap belt and can be used for kids up to 30 pounds (which at the rate that she is growing, will last until she is in kindergarten:))

She swung this morning for 20 minutes (which is a LONG time for her to do one thing) and I was able to weed, re pot 2 plants and read the paper!
Anyway we are doing well. Caitlin is pulling up on everything and it is really ticking Aidan off:D He watches her from the corner of his eye to see where she is, and when she gets close he says No or Mine. I am the oldest child and I feel so bad for her - I was never as bad as Aidan when I was younger;) She just absolutely loves him and wants to follow him around - he can be so sweet and he makes her smile, but watch out if she gets near the toys!
randysmandy - Congrats on the walking - WOW!

Alison--We have a similar swing and Henry loves his too. We have ours hanging on our upstairs porch.
Nikki-that is great news. I'm so glad that Ava is doing so well.
Henry woke up this morning with weird bug bites. I think something bit him during the night. He is scratching it like crazy! and I feel so badly for him. I am also concerned about the bites as they don't look like regular mosquito bites. He goes to the Ped Tues for WBV but hopefully everything will be ok before then.

Go Courtney!
Yes I had my hands full this weekend-all Hunter wanted to do was walk, so I spent most of the weekend walking behind him LOL
Poor Ashley Was she OK? What a cutie-she looks like a very happy baby.
QOTD What are you feeding your babies these days? Hunter has been trying everything, but I am finding it hard to feed him supper. I don't want him to have any more pureed food (he started solids quite young) just for the simple fact that he CAN chew things and LIKES to chew food.

Randysmandy: let the weight loss begin eh? Pretty soon you'll have to run after him because I'm sure his little legs will just pump as quick as he'll make em go.
Was Ashley ok? Love the pics, especially the last one. I'm a sucker for chubby baby thighs.
QOTD-we're still on mostly purees, but what about giving him meat now? Little pieces of chicken or turkey, green beans, sweet potato or white potato chunks, carrots, or yogurt? We just started on yogurt yesterday and there's a brand I found at walmart called yobaby. Here's a website with a meal plan idea..

solong and Randy - woo hoo for mobile babies.
Ash was fine, thanks for asking. It scared her mostly but after she calmed down - she was back to playing and laughing.
QOTD - I do chunks of stuff that she has already eaten and I still try to introduce a new food every week. So, she gets chunks of chicken, green beas, peas (that I smash so she doesn't choke), potato (sweet and white), bananas, and mangos (for the squishy fruit and veggies - I roll those in either oatmeal or her brown rice cereal so she can pick them up). She also gets pasta noodles (the cork screw ones cut into little pieces), cheerios (broken into pieces) and teething cookies. I stay away from the harder fruit - I tried giving her a raw apple piece and she choked this weekend.
I also just purchased some yo baby and will try it this week.
Oh - and thank you to whomever suggested the bathmat on the side of the tub (I can't remember)..I did that and it works so well!
Also, I gave her strawberry/banana puffs to take to school - her whole face was covered in a rash the first day they gave them to her (Thursday)...I knew strawberries were a no no but figured the trace in the puff wouldn't be bad..WRONG.

QOTD - Caitlin still eats some puree's but prefers the finger foods. I have done: egg yolk, black beans, toast, cut up steamed veggies, soft fruit, pasta, rice, avocado. My son's fav thing was cheese toast - I haven't done it with Caitlin yet. Just lightly toast some bread and melt some cheese - cut it into bitesize pieces. Also you could start doing some of what you are eating as long as it isn't too salty or processed. Do you think that he is ready to feed himself yogurt from one of those bowls that suction to the tray? Maybe let him dip the spoon in a bit and see.
cr8zy - Oh my cuteness! I love the second pic.

Solongtogo- Yay for Courtney crawling!
Foods- mosly purees still, but small bites of other stuff...melon, grapes, banana, 1/2 Oatieos, Gerber Puffs, tiny pieces of pasta...basically whatever we're eating I'll let her taste. At thispoint she really likes everything...last week she shocked the heck out of me by *loving* sucking on a whole kosher pickle!

Question re: strawberries - Someone said these were a no-no. Is there a reason? We have given Addy pieces of strawberry and she loves them.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Our new kitchen cabinets arrived on Friday so we were busy with all things kitchen.

strawberries - Someone said these were a no-no. Is there a reason?
Strawberries happen to be on the list of highly allergenic foods - they are also very acidic. I read that most peds recommend waiting until 1 year to try them, but wholesomebabyfood says that you can try them at 10m.
Here is the link to a list of the most and least allergenic foods.
http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/allergy.htm
Interestingly enough, I found that Caitlin got a bit of a red bum after she ate some peas on Saturday - now I see that they are on the list of most allergenic foods. But she also gets a red bum after apples and carrots so who knows. Maybe she just has a sensitive bum:)

QOTD - I'm horrible. I still just give her the same old baby food. She is very picky, so we haven't even advanced to the green food yet. I started hunter on pieces of banana-they mash up easy and then I went onto puffs. He literally threw up 3 times (different days) before he got used to the feeling of something on his tongue. I broke them into 5 peices, then half, not he eats whole ones like nothing!

brink: I found that even breaking up puffs would make Courtney choke in the beginning...I just waited a while, and would try again in a few days. randysmandy walking  oh, and thanks for your take on my pop culture question.
well, we just got back from zoe's follow-up for her ear infection... now she has an infection in her other ear. ugh. i requested an rx that was not amoxicillin (don't know the name off-hand) so hopefully she won't have such a bad reaction this time. again, it was a horrible crying/screaming fest and it took her quite a while to calm down after having her ears dug into. we go back in another 2 weeks for her follow-up. the doc also said that i need to give her more high-calorie/fat foods because she hasn't gained any weight in the past 3 weeks and ice cream was suggested. i'm not real keen on that idea. any suggestions for high calorie/fat foods? she's not a fan of avocado (though i think i'll try again soon). i started giving her total yogurt (it's greek) this morning... 7oz = 20g fat  and tonight i think i'll give her no-tahini hummus. i'll make it myself and add lots of olive oil to make up for the lack of tahini. any other suggestions?
AlisonCO
06-05-2006, 02:45 PM
charmcity - There was someone in the Master Solids thread who has a thin 10 month old and her ped told her to give her DD butter. Others suggested full fat yogurt and cheese, egg yolks and olive oil (as well as avocado.) Can you mix avocado in with something she likes? Maybe start putting a bit of olive oil in her veggies? Otherwise it is very very common for kids to really slow their weight gain around 9 months because of the huge increase in activity. Is she still taking her normal amount of formula? Has she been pretty sick during those 3 weeks where she didn't gain? Personally I wouldn't do ice cream unless she won't eat and of the healthy fats.
brink - I agree that banana is a great one to start with. I also broke the puffs in half for a few days until Caitlin started to understand that she needed to mash them a bit and wait until they dissolved before she could swallow them.
charmcitygirl
06-05-2006, 03:00 PM
alison i'd be willing to saute her veggies in butter and/or olive oil, but egg are out (per ped.). i think her lack of weight gain is due to increased activity and not lack of eating. her formula intake is down, but only slightly, and she probably makes up for it in solids which she has been doing exceptionally well with. i'm not overly concerned about her weight but will incorporate more fatty foods into her diet anyways. god, if dh saw me giving her ice cream he'd go crazy...he'd give it to her all. the. time. ;)

New Trick(s?)!
For the past few days Naomi has been waving "hi" and "Bye bye!" It's waaaaay cute, I must say.:D
And one I'm not sure really happened... I had her at a Gymboree class yesterday with her buddy Gabriel. After class I asked Gabriel's Mom Lydia to watch her while I used the restroom. When I came out both Lydia and the teacher were practically bouncing up and down and squeaking "Naomi said her first word!!!" I was like, "Wha??!??  What happened?!?!?" Apparently, she crawled up to Gabriel, waved at him, and said "Hi!"
I dunno....tempting to believe (though I sure would hate to have missed it if it's true!), but I'm not sure that I do. Maybe it was a random baby noise with lucky timing...I have said "hi!" to her 168,000 times since yesterday trying to get her to say it again and she hasn't. The jury is out!

Charm - I would not do ice cream. My sister gave A ice cream on two occasions while we were on vacation (I gave her permission) and she refused to eat veggies a few times on the days following the sweets. It could have just been a coincidence but I don't think so. I would also not really be too concerned about it if she seems to be acting fine - and try avocado (I have to hide this in other food), cheese, and cooking the veggies in olive oil. so sorry about the ear infections - that really stinks.
randysmandy - WALKING...OH MY!!

Jo - Yeah for the kitchen cabinets arriving. How exciting. And Yeah for Addy standing. I bet it won't be long before she is walking!
Andrea - how cute!! You will have to try to get her to do it again...that is just adorable!!
Nothing new going on here -the teachers are having a hard time putting Ashley down for naps - she refuses to take naps. She is sleeping 10 hours a night and then gets maybe 1-2 30 minute naps - that just doesn't seem like enough sleep. Am I worrying for nothing?
charmcitygirl
06-06-2006, 08:05 AM
cr8zy i think that given ashley's sleeping habits, you should take what you can get. does she seem rested? not getting really cranky?
i made my no-tahini hummus last night and it didn't go over so well. jake tasted my regular hummus the other day and was begging for more, so i thought it would be a big hit. i ended up mixing it with sweet potatoes and apples and they gobbled it up.
jake woke up at 2:30am and cried until about 4am. i think i made a mistake by not asking the doc to check his ears while we were there for zoe yesterday. she did the exact same thing over the weekend (waking in the night and crying), which is really unlike her. but maybe it was the hummus, so i'll hold out and see what happens tonight. i guess if he's up again (and obviously uncomfortable), i'll have to take him in.

I think Alex is really suffering from separation anxiety. I've noticed it the last week or so... and yesterday she pretty much wanted me next to her or holding her the whole day. It was cute, until I brought her to daycare today and got a call one hour later saying that she had been crying for a full hour. She's not sick, she slept great last night - she could be teething, but who knows? My hunch is that she's suddenly much more aware of who is around her... so sad :( I called back at 11am and she was doing better.. sigh...

Andrea - That is too cute - I hope that she says Hi to you today!
cr8zy - Does she take longer naps for you on the weekends? Is she happy when she is awake? Maybe she is just going thru a phase, or maybe she is just having too much fun at daycare to settle down. Does she have a lovey that she could have at daycare? I think that the range of sleep for 9-12 month olds is like 11-14 hours a day so she is pretty close to that.
charmcity - So did you just puree garbonzo beans, olive oil and garlic for you hummus? That is such a great idea and I think that I will make some and sneak it in Caitlin's food.
cr8nme - Wow you have a crazy month. It will be hard to get things done with N, but it will be so great when you get moved and are all together!

Hunter had vanilla ce cream a couple times and ate his normal veggies and fruit. I figured that yogurt is just like ice cream to him-sweet and cold and he is used to having that. But every baby is different. He seriously loves every type of food we give him. I gave him beef veggie stew and he saw yum yum after every single bite. Then he had fresh blueberries-same thing!
Strawberries I just got home for a meeting and there were apple and strawberry puff on the counter-OPENED!! First of all-I have told MIL that DH cannot have sb's. And never once did I set them out for him to eat. What would make her think that she could open them up (out of the wrapper) and give them to him. She claims she gave them to him yesterday cause I left them out-I DID NOT. And I wondered why he had a pink bump on the side of his mouth-ARG! Alison I know you said Caitlin had the same thing happen.

Cr8nme Cute, cute pics!!! Can you even beleive how big they are getting?!?!? And I am so jeaous you have a contract on your house! I can't wait to sell mine!
So Ava tried to eat a penny yesterday. My nanny had to pluk it from the back of her throat. Good lord that scared me to death! Phil is always leaving his change lying about and I have told him tim and again to stop it, and now hopefully this scared him enough that he won't do it anymore. Ack.
randysmandy I would be p*ssed at MIL giving him strawberries. I don't want Ava having them either (even though our ped said that they are not a problem now).

I have told MIL that DH cannot have sb's Yes, your DH absolutely is too YOUNG for strawberries;) :)
randysmandy - Ughh, I can't believe that your MIL tried to turn it around and say that you left them out! I can't imagine that 1/4 of a banana a day could be too much potassium - C eats about 1/4-1/3 of a banana every morning with DH and she is much smaller than Hunter.
cr8nme - What a beauty - that orange dress looks amazing on her!
nikki - How scary - I can't believe how fast Caitlin can pick something up (like a piece of paper.) So glad that the nanny was watching her!

cr8nme - great pictures - what a photo shoot - 4 outfit changes??
Nikki- Yikes about the penny - thank god the nanny was keeping a close watch - she gets a gold star for the day.
I just called daycare - Ashley took one cr*ppy 45 minute nap - and has been up since 11...what is her deal? They did say she is cranky...so if she falls asleep in the car -should I let her sleep - I think letting her nap between 5-6 is too late. I wonder if I force her to stay up and put her down earlier if that will work. I swear - who knew sleep would be such an issue??
Thanks for all of your support ladies....it does really mean so much to have a bunch of great ladies to bounce questions and concerns off of!

I would let Ashley sleep if it was me... I've had the same struggle with Alex - when she takes bad naps at daycare.. although I don't have the car ride home.. so if I want to keep her up I can just be in her face ;)
So all this talk of strawberries - I just bought the gerber puffs, and saw the strawberry ones - what's up with that? Needless to say, I went for banana...
Cute pics everyone!

Thanks for all the compliments ladies... Yes 4 outfit changes and a naked one :D I take her to Portrait Innovations and they do a wonderful job!!! They took over 150 pictures of her and she did so well. When we were chosing her pictures she just sat there oohing and aahing over herself while drinkign a bottle, lol I got 6 poses (3 sheets of each pose) pluse 6 extra sheets of our favorite pose plus 2 free portrait compositions which came out to 24 sheets of pictures and the 11x13 portrait compositions (2) and I paid about $100 I absolutely love them :D

yeah, i find it really odd that baby food companies make food that has "banned" substances in them. i've seen both corn and berries in foods meant for babies under a year and both are recommended for babies over a year. i mean, i don't care if you choose to give these to your kids, but the general consenses is to wait and all of the baby food companies have offerings that contain high-allergen foods...including the organic ones. odd....

I have given Noelle both corn and strawberries and she has had no reaction... I gave it to her 1 day and waited a week just to see. i do agree that companies shouldn't make it for younger babies. FWIW I gave it to Noelle when I was eating it and I didn't see any reaction

I didn't know about corn - I gave Alex some 2 days last week and then stopped because she seemed really gassy.. then my sister, the allergy expert - told me that she waited because corn can be an allergen.
I think part of the problem is that even if they don't have a reaction the first time, they can develop the allergy later once they are exposed. I know that's the issue with peanuts.
I also saw strawberries in a jarred babyfood I think! So weird. I agree - it should be left up to the parent, and to have it available in babyfood is irresponsible.

cr8nme - Beautiful pictures of Noelle - I'm impressed with all of the outfit changes and that you still had a smiling baby on your hands.
Cr8zy - We let Aimee take her last nap of the day between 5-6 and it works out just fine. She falls asleep in the car on the way home from daycare and we park it in the garage (turn the engine off) and leave her until she wakes up. She will then be up for about 3 hours before she goes out - so about 8-9 each night. Not that it will work for Ashley, but it works great for us.
Nikki - scary about the penny!
Choking - just a heads up - another friend way saying that her baby swallowed the strings that are attached to all of those cute hats. She now cuts them off of everything, I guess it was pretty scary.

i think one of the big issues with corn is that it's really tough on the digestive system.
napping late... ummm... my kids are napping right now (5:45pm). this is very unusual for them, but i'm just gonna let them snooze. they have been pretty cranky today and dinner was a disaster. i tried cubed sweet potato (which they love pureed) and pasta. zoe tried it all but didn't really get into it and jake whined about it all. so off to take naps they went...

I had no idea that corn was a potential allergen! It really annoys me that they are making babyfood with corn if we are supposed to wait! Same thing goes for strawberries! GRRRR
We waited on Gerber puffs b/c wholesomebabyfood said no wheat till 10mo. At that point I doubt most people need the dissolving action of the puffs!
Noelle is adorable as usual. My fav is the one with the do rag. :) We too have had good luck with portrait innovations. We are waiting until the bug bites go away before we can do pics.
Nikki--So scary about the penny! YIkes
Mandy--Holy cow--he is saying "boo boo mama"? AND walking?? Wowza.

FYI - Here is the list of the most allergenic foods. Some have ages (strawberries, corn, milk and citrus after 1 year, shellfish, peanut butter and nuts after 2-3 years), but the rest don't say. It has been helpful to me to refer to the list occasionally to make sure that I am aware when I introduce a new food to be on the lookout for a rash etc.
berries
buckwheat
chocolate
cinnamon
citrus fruits (acidic)
coconut
corn
dairy products
egg whites
mustard
nuts
peas
peanut butter
pork
shellfish
soy
strawberries
sugar
tomatoes
wheat
yeast
I think part of the problem is that even if they don't have a reaction the first time, they can develop the allergy later once they are exposed. I know that's the issue with peanuts.
SO true! I have several friends with toddlers that now have these random food allergies that didn't appear until well after 1. It was very hard to find the root of the problem when they had been giving the food for so long - one mom went thru very invasive tests to find that her son had an allergy to blueberries.
i've seen both corn and berries in foods meant for babies under a year and both are recommended for babies over a year.
I know - I was at Whole Foods buying a few jars of Earth's Best organics for my mom to keep at her house and I could not find plain squash, just butternut squash and corn. This was a stage 2 jar which I know that many people give to their under 6 month old kids. I often wonder how these seemingly little things could really add up and potentially affect a kids health.

Yes..I am also annoyed with the highly allergenic food they put in baby food - I also purchased a bunch of the Earth's Best organic - like winter and summer veggies and I looked later - every single can contains corn - WTH?
Also, my MIL does not take the allergy thing very serious-a few weekends ago she gave Ashley a big scoop of strawberry cake filling and then got an attitude when I asked her to please not put that kind of stuff in Ashley's mouth. And DH doesn't help - he tells me to lighten up.
I did let her nap from 5-6....and she just went down around 8:30. I just thought that was too late for a nap - but if you guys do it - what the heck. And I also leave her sleeping in the car in the garage (turned off of course)...

Wow quite a bit of chatter today :D I am here with a concern and need some advice.
Noelle has always been a great eater especially with jar food. She loves loves loves green beans. However, for about 2 weeks she has been decreasing her milk intake. Monday I started her on stage 3 jar foods and she can eat the whole jar (she eats 2 jars while at daycare now that she is on stage 3 ...she used to eat 3 jards on stage 2 food) however today she ate both jars at the appropriate times but she only took in 12 oz of milk I send 3 6oz bottles and a 4 oz bottle. So I am baffled should I stop solids so she can drink more milk? I breastfeed at home so I really don't know how much she is eating at home.
What do you ladies think

cr8nme - I had similar concerns about Kaito's milk intake during the day but in the end I decided not to worry about it. As long as our babies continue to gain weight and appear healthy, I think it's okay. But I've made myself a mental note to ask the ped about this at my next visit.
Earth's Best jars - I've given Kaito blueberries in the Earth's best jar and have a jar of raspberries on the shelf. I agree that it's annoying that these baby food companies are placing these things in jars that say Stage 2....

cr8n...that's how Courtney is too. I don't think it's necessary to stop with her solid meals, although I think some people might say otherwise. At one year, they're not going to be drinking formula/bm for "meals" per say...they'll actually be eating 3 meals a day, etc...
Don't know if I stated that very clearly, but do you get what I mean?
cr8zyforaf
06-07-2006, 07:23 AM
cr8nme - it was my understanding that during this late stage in the first year - while BM or formula still should be primary, the amount will be decreasing due to the increase in solids. She explained it like a see saw - with the milk on one side and the solids on the other - and in these last months of the first year - the food side of the see saw will be slowly getting equal to and then higher than the BM/FF side, if that makes sense.
Well, Ashley did sleep in the car last night on the way home - she went down at 8, and slept until 5..ate and went down again until 7:30 - which is great except it was after nine by the time I got to work. Note to self - stop worrying.

Thank you for all the replies about the milk...I guess I should stop worrying so much she is very healthy and right on target for development. Did I mention that she is standing up? I notice that Noelle doesn't really like to crawl I mean she will if she has to but really once she gets what she wants she either plops on her stomach or sits herself up! She would rather stand up or sit up
Noelle slept fromt he time I picked her from daycare to about 9:30 then ate went to sleep and woke up at 6:15...she is usually a great sleeper but goodness I didn't even have any play time with her:( I am glad that she is well rested though

Niki - That is really scary about the penny! I went home last night and scoured our house for anything small that Addy could possibly put in her mouth! Thank goodness your nanny was on top of it.
Cr8nme - Noelles pictures are beautiful!! She is sooo adorable and so photogenic. I love all her little dresses - I was eyeing that orange dress for an outdoor summer wedding we are going to. It looks really cute on. In response to your question about milk intake - I agree with the others. Our ped actually explained it much like Cr8zy's did. It is kind of like the babies are naturally weaning themselves off of the milk to make more room for the solids.
Mandy - You have a talker and a walker?! Wow - that is incredible!
Cr8zy - Glad you had a good nights sleep :)
Food Issues - Corn is really hard to digest - even for an adult so just imagine how hard it would be on a little person's system. It is also one the main causes of allergies in pets too because so many food manufacturers use it because it is a cheap filler. I wonder if that is why baby food manufacturers use it too? (not that pet food and baby food are similar but you never know!) Looking at the list provided, I have given Addison several foods on the list without any issues. There are also obvious ones that I won't give her yet too.
Nothing much new going on with us - Addy hasn't been sleeping very well. I think she must be teething or something. Poor little thing doesn't look well rested either.
I am officially self-employed. What a difference it has made in my stress level. Amazing - but it is also hard to finish up some projects I have going on right now because my mind is already in another place :)

cr8nme - I think that cr8zy's explanation is really good and I agree. Caitlin has been nursing less during the day also. After her am and pm nap, she used to nurse for 6-8 minutes, but now she nurses for maybe 4 minutes.
jo&sean - Congrats on being self-employed.
cr8zy - I am so glad that the late nap did not mess up A's sleep - sounds like a pretty good night! Maybe that late nap just helps take the edge off her tiredness and makes it easier to relax at night.
So Caitlin is pulling and standing also. She loves to stand at the toy boxes and book box and pull everything that she can reach out. Her problem is sitting down after being up for a bit - she tries to lower herself and gets stuck.
We had a rough night last night and I have a cold today so I wonder if Caitlin is getting it. My DH thankfully got up at 3am and slept in her room so that I could sleep until Caitlin got up to eat at 6:40am. Aidan had the cold Sun and Mon so hopefully mine is only 2 days too.
I hope that you all have a great day!

Question for you all...
I just posted this in the 0-18 months thread, but I really should've just done it here, 'cause I heart you guys:p
We had pretty much decided to have Naomi's first birthday party at Gymboree(can fit all the folks we need to invite, convenient location, fun and safe for the wee ones), but when I called for info I learned that the only weekend start times they have are 3PM on Saturdays and 2:30PM on Sundays.
Are the other Mommies gonna want to hang me for messing with afternoon nap times? Should I just not worry about it?
I'm new at this....
What do you think?
In other news, boo-hoo we lost one of Naomi's beloved purple-butterfly Robeez today. I'm bummed....they were a gift and uber-cute. But life goes on and- ahem- it gives me the opportunity to get these:

Andrea - we heart you too! I am also planning Ashley's party at 2PM on a Saturday and most of the kid/baby parties that I've been to have started between 12-3 on the weekends. I just work the naps around the event (because Ashley is such a cr*ppy napper, it is easy) - I usually leave early and let her sleep in the car before the event or get there right when the party starts and cut out when she starts to fuss - so she can sleep on the ride home.
Boo Hoo for loosing a shoe - but love the new pair!! I've lost one of A's gymbo shirts and I've ripped the house apart...can't find it.

Andrea - I wouldn't worry too much about the time. Caitlin is usually up by 3 and my 2.5 yo is usually up by 3:30. For special occasions I will wake them early or I will arrive a bit late. It is interesting though because the last 3 parties we went too were from 11-2. Sorry about the shoe:(

While we are talking about our Babies first birthday  its hard thinking about it...
What are you all doing for invitations? I made my own for my wedding and am seriously thinking of doing the same for her birthday party. I am just sooo freakin' indecisive and want everything to be perfect:o
