kristen i hear you on the pregnancy rut.. i'm all excited to be coming up (in two weeks ) on the third trimester... its nice to feel like there is progress being made.. ongrats on passing the 1 hr test... thats awsome you dont have to take the 3hr.. its no fun!
shower i havent heard a thing about a shower for me... this is how it was with my wedding.. i ended up having one.. but less than a month before my wedding and i just didnt really enjoy myself... i hope that if i have a baby shower its not really close to my due date... but my family doesnt like to do things too far in advance... im really hoping it wont be a surprise though.. i really dont like surprise parties.
bassinet in room we have two family bassinets (one from his side and one from my side.. we plan on setting one up in the crib and starting that way... but if it doesnt work... my back up plan is to have the baby in the same room...
sebski i hadnt thought about doing a buddy system... do we just try to pair up so that the due dates are far apart? it sounds like an interesting idea!
and finally... i think we have decided on our bedding.... (we better be having a girl! here's a huge picture of it....

Shower, mine is Sept. 11. Not the date I would have picked but it was the only one that worked.
Due Date Buddies, I like the idea of having a buddy to help keep up udated.
Alanna-very victorian. I like it.

URGH...I just spent 10 minutes typing up a message and I hit the wrong button and it disappeared. Annoying.
bassinets I have been thinking about this issue also. I think I will want the baby close by for easy night time feedings and just to make sure everything is ok (I tend to be a little paraniod ;)) However, my friend has had a hard time transitioning her baby to her crib. That, and the fact that the bassinet/cradle is only used for maybe 3 months, make me think we should just start out in the crib. 2nd timers...what did you do?
working out I made it to the gym for the second day in a row! YAY! It felt especially good to stretch out afterwards. I have never been very limber and gaining this weight makes me feel like a beached whale (a lot of mine has gone to where it always goes...butt and hips) so stretching is going to be very important for me, I think. Especially for pushing...I can not seem to get my mind around being in a position where your knees are up to your ears for 2 hours...not comfortable, I would assume!
alanna What girlie bedding! It is so soft and pretty.
Kristen Congrats on passingyour GTT test! I haven't had to do it yet and I am not looking forward to it. I hate it when stores take advantage of the fact that you are having a baby. It is almost like putting the word "wedding" in front of something...you are guaranteed a 50% markup! I feel the same with some baby stuff. I am glad you found your chair somewhere else for a decent price...
LSUGirl Drew looks great! I love the eye...amazing! My babe is also on course to be a big baby...measured 2-3 weeks ahead in all areas. We'll see how it all turns out in November/December...I hope Drew slows down for you!

Same here!!! I read everyday, just don't always have time to keep up with replying to everyone. Hope no one minds!
I think having a buddy is a good idea!

abbytfox I love the color scheme you picked out! I don't have any experience personally with that website, but I know that I've read a lot on WC about people using them and being very happy... in fact, I'm torn between a couple of diff sets - I might just have to check them out and order a sample or 2. How was the quality of the sample you received?
Rikki What an adorable picture of your 'little' man! :) Happy to hear all is well with the babe... especially since you had the stepping-scare! I go to the doc on the 1st and am hoping that they give me another U/S to see how the baby is growing... mine's measuring almost 2 weeks ahead of schedule and I would like an update to see if he's evened out or is still ahead. Is it rude to ask for an u/s though?
Kristen congrats on passing the glucose test!
Alanna LOVE the bedding! Very pretty!!!
Bassinets I definitely would like to have the baby in the same room with us for the first few months because I plan on breastfeeding. I don't really want to co-sleep, so I think a bassinet will work the best for us. Plus, my mom is big on them and got my sister one with her child. I'm sure she'll be getting me one. As for transitioning to the crib... the bassinet might make it harder, but honestly, I think it's going to be a touch tricky regardless. I want to try to sleep train at 5 or 6 months since I'll be going back to work probaby around 7 months so hopefully we can un-train whatever attachment baby grows toward the bassinet. Is that first-time mom wishful thinking though? ;)
Shower Mine is going to be in the middle of October. At first I thought it was a touch too close to my due date (11/22) but, I'm not going to get to take off early for maternity leave and I really don't want to be tripping over all the baby's things. With my work schedule I can't take much time off and so I don't feel like having my shower one day and then going back to work the next w/out having a chance to put things away. It will urk me to have all that baby stuff and not be able to start organizing it. Plus, I'm a bridesmaid in early October and we have bridal things the last 2 weekends in Sept. So, that didn't leave me w/ many options. If we need to purchase things that we don't receive off our registry, or do exchanges, I think I'll have enough time. BRU is right in our town so it's not like I can't run in and out quickly enough. I can't believe some of your showers are coming up - considering it's almost August, that puts them almost a month away! :)
Buddies Maybe one of the 2nd timers can explain how it worked for them in their first timer threads... I would think it's like a snow chain. The early Nov deliverers pair up w/ the late Nov deliverers and email/call that person when they go into labor/have their baby. I might have that wrong though - is it more complicated?
Did anyone notice that the Sept mom's thread has started welcoming their babies? That leaves only Oct and then it's OUR TURN!!!

I am a huge fan of bassinettes. With Ben, I thought I would use the infant part of the pack and play. HE HATED IT! I borrowed a friends bassinette and it was smooth sailing from then on.
Best thing about bassinettes were that you don't have to get out of bed to feed, you can just reach over and pick them up out of the bassinette. I kept mine right up next to the bed.
When you shower (this was huge for me) you can wheel them into the bathroom right next to the shower and watch them. I used to have friends complain they couldn't shower until their DH got home. I loved the bassinette for this reason. Really you can wheel it anywhere - that was great!
My advice is that you don't have to get one with any bells and whistles. Just get barebones or even second hand and you will definitely get your $ worth not only because you will use it, but also with peace of mind. I sure did. Sadly, I had to give the bassinette back (at about 2 and a half mo). So, I am in the market for another one. I am going to go to consignment shops to see if I can find one. PS. Ben had NO troubles going into the crib. It was me who boo-hoo cried and checked on him every hour!

I know I'm late with my guess, but Tulip I am going to guess Boy as well. I think you're carrying like me too.
Abby I love the swatches you posted, though I agree on the zebra, might be a bit much. Also I am taking prenatal yoga and really love it, I wish I had started a couple months ago. The stretching and relaxation are making a world of difference for me. I go once a week on Wednesdays, and by Tuesday (today) I am feeling sore again and looking forward to my class to loosen up.
Bassinettes: I don't know. Our bedroom is very close to the room the baby will be in, but we will actually have to get out of bed of course to go get the baby. My mom still has the bassinette she used for me and my brother, so I have that option. At this point we're just planning on using the crib. Speaking of cribs, has everyone ordered/bought one yet? We've pretty much decided on a Sorelle. There's a USA baby in our city that stocks them so luckily I don't have to special order.
Also here's a bedding question: can you just assume that any bedding you see will work with a standard crib? Also what if you don't want to get a full package, just get a couple pieces ala carte, is that an option?

Bassinetts, we are planning on getting the Graco one and having the baby sleep next to our bed. Most of my mommy friends seem to recommend this, esp for the middle of the night feedings. I am going to try and breastfeed, so this seems more convienent. Plus, I know I would never sleep with my newborn down the hall from me, I couldnt even do that when I got my puppy lol. Right now, we have our 2 dogs that sleep in our room, one on his dogbed and one in a crate. So we are going to have a packed house for a while :) But one of my favorite things is us all hanging out in there together, so the more the merrier :)
I cannot believe that there is an April 06 mommies thread already. I remember how psyched I was to see the Dec 05 thread :)
Shower, no mention of anything from my mom...I hope that she is not trying to plan another "surprise" like my wedding shower. I found out about that one by accident, then had to pretend the whole time leading up to it like I didnt know. Not to mention that when I pulled in the parking lot, my moms best friend was standing in front of the restaurant like an idiot. But of course, I had to "act" surprised b/c there was no way I was letting my mom know that I knew, she put so much time & effort into it. I am thinking of being honest and telling her that I would rather not be surprised.
On a sappy note, got an email from our nephew who is stationed in Iraq. We sent him sono pics of the babe, and he wrote back that he is praying for us and the baby :) How sweet of him to think of us when he is in a place like that, fighting a war. He is such a sweet kid. Great news is he is scheduled to come home Nov 4th now, so we will be counting the days until he comes home and then till our baby is born :D

Pretty bedding, Alanna. Very sweet and girly.
I haven't even begun to think about bedding. The problem (well, one problem--the biggest actually is that I can't seem to get moving to DO anything about all this stuff!) is that crib sizes all seem to be different here, so I'm not sure what to do about trying to get bedding that fits. I guess I have to go to the store where I think we're ordering our crib and ask. The trouble is I'm not wild about any of the bedding sets they sell there....
Bassinets...maybe I'm crazy, but I think we're going to try to skip this. It will mean getting out of bed, because I do plan to breastfeed, and I'm a very enthusiastic sleeper, so we'll see if I eat my words about this later on. But I think I'd prefer that Baby sleep in her crib right from the beginning, for a few reasons: 1. The way our room is set up, there isn't a good place for the bassinet where I wouldn't be worried about her accidently getting knocked over or stepped on. We basically have our bed, then we each have built-in closets right next to the bed (makes it a problem to put the bassinet right next to the bed because you wouldn't be able to open the closets), and then we have the walkway around the bed. Not much other space. 2. I don't want to worry about the transitioning to the crib issue, and I don't want to traumatize her later with a lot of the stuff I read about sleep training--I'd prefer that she just sleeps there from the beginning and is used to her own bed and room from the word go. 3. If I can avoid buying the bassinet, that's $$ that can always be spent somewhere else.
But like I said, we'll have to see how it goes. If I find that getting up every other second to check on her and to feed her during the night is too much, then I may have to rethink all of this and find a way that I can feel safe putting her in a bassinet in our room when she's very little. My cousin never did the bassinet thing--they had a full bed in her son's room, and she (and often her husband also) just slept in his room a lot of the time. So there were no transitioning-to-the-crib issues, and she's really big on avoiding spending money on something you only use for a few weeks, also. I'd like to keep a bed (maybe just a twin) in Baby's room, but if we use the small room I'm thinking about for Baby, there won't be space in there for the crib, the dresser/changer, some kind of chair (the glider issue is VERY frustrating here), and some small bookcases for all the kiddo-books, AND a bed.
Buddies....it definitely seems to work for the other threads, I think we should do it. How to pair off? I guess it seems like we should each find someone about 2-3 weeks either before or after our own due date. I'm at the beginning of the month (Nov. 5th, with Alanna!), and I guess I shouldn't pair off with someone at the end of the month, because that would leave mid-month people with only other mid-month people, which wouldn't work out very well! So, let's see....Sebski, you're on the 22nd, wanna be my buddy?? And then, if there is another person late in the month later on who is having trouble finding a buddy, I wouldn't mind having a later-November buddy also.
I do feel the pregnancy doldrums, a bit....I've known I was pg since 11 DPO, it does seem like this pregnancy is lasting foooorrrreeeeeeeverrrrrrr. But, on the other hand, I think we're starting to get into the exciting parts, now. I can't believe Alanna said the other day that she (and I!) will be going into the third trimester in two weeks! This is when as I understand it pregnancy becomes a lot more physical (and uncomfortable and grueling) as our bodies go into the final stretch, we all have to get into high gear and start getting our homes seriously ready for a new family member (especially me, I need overdrive because I seriously haven't even begun yet), and we have to really think about and get ready for the process of getting these little ones *out*side of us!! If you think about it, there's really so much to do, and only a little over three months to do it all in! When I think about it that way, the boredom factor dissipates pretty quickly.

Has anyone experienced Braxton Hicks yet? Last night I felt this tightening and I felt my uterus and it was rock hard. It happened twice. It sounds like how Braxton Hicks are described but isnt it to early to experience these at 23 wk? It seems like its one thing after another that makes me worry agh!!

Bassinets... I am with you Alb. I don't think I want to use one. ILs got us one, though we never asked for it. The baby's room is really big, and we have a full sized bed in there. I think this will be good especially since I am planning to BF for the first few months. I don't want to deal with tranistioning issues either. Now the question is how do I tell ILs that I really don't want the bassinet. I hate all the baby "stuff" or "junk" that ends up in the house. We don't have a huge house, and I need to minimize this stuff.
Bliss how sweet of you nephew! Hope he is doing well. I pray for all of our troops out there.
Showers Well, my mom is insisting that she throw one, but it has to be at the end of August! I will just be entering my 3rd trimester. It seems really early to me, but my does't want to do it Oct, and apparently the whole month of Sept. is out because my SIL is due mid-sept (though I am not not really sure I understnad her thinking on why we can't do it in sept  ) My MIL and friends (we all live in the same town) are throwing me one in the beginning of Oct. That should give us plenty of time to get things organized and ready for our little boy. I was just glad I could talk my friends into doing it with MIL, and not having a thrird shower.
Due Date Buddies Not sure how this will work out, but I interested in hearing more.
working out Abby, what is that? Congrats on making it to the gym! I had joined a prenatal yoga class, but it got canceled after only 2 people showed up. I really enjoyed it, and they plan to get it started again in Sept.
I'm in a pregnancy rut. I'm so bored! How am I going to make it 3 more months? Ahhhh.... I was just thinking the other day that 40 weeks is just too long. I think 30 would be about right. I still have about 16 more weeks...that seems so long!
Braxton Hicks No, I don't think I have experienced this yet. Heck I haven't even felt the baby move yet!!!!

******Buddies!!!!******
I was thinking it might help to put up the due date list so its easier to pick buddies... i think it helps to look at the due dates... I think alb was right as far as the timing goes... so maybe as a guideline... (but definitely not as a rule - buddy up as you want!!) some thing like this would work:
If you are due:
10/28 - 11/7 < ----your buddy is due ----> 11/15 --> 11/23
11/8 - 11/14 < ----your buddy is due ----> 11/24 --> 12/7
OR
We could go more simple and just say:
If you are due:
10/28 - 11/14 < ----your buddy is due ----> 11/15 --> 12/7
Any feedback?????
Which system do you like better?
When we have buddies would you like them to be posted in pairs on the front page so we know who has been "taken" ?
Do you want more or less involvement from the moderators on this? in otherwords... would you like us to butt out and everyone can deal withthis privately :) (its perfectly okay to say so!)
Here is the master due date list:

Buddies I think that is a good idea. Although I have a friend that will post in here when Baby S arrives.
Tulip Great belly shots!
Bassinets I am trying to borrow one. If not, I'll buy a basic one for our room for the first couple of weeks for feedings. Our bedroom is on the first floor and the baby is upstairs so I certainly don't want to be going up and down the stairs in the middle of the night for feedings!
Shower I won'tbe having a shower. I'm Jewish and it's supersticious to have a shower. Personally, I don't believe in any of that stuff, but no one in my family or any of my Jewish friends have had a baby shower. We'll get most gifts once the baby is born.
Pregnany rut I don't feel like I'm in one...if anything I'm freaking out that I only have 16 weeks left to do SO many things!
Furniture We're going tonight to put a deposit on the Munire set we are going to buy. :D I"ll post pix when I get a chance. At least I can cross that off my list! Next on to bedding!
Otherwise, I'm feeling good. This heat wave is supposed to end after today, so I'm looking forward to that! I think I'm showing alot more now. I notice people giving me the look like..."oh she's pregnant" now on the train.

So I had lunch with DH today and was talking about getting the buddy list together and he had (what i think) is a pretty cool idea....
Either in addition or instead of buddies....
to create an free mail account that everyone can access (yahoo account) publish the address and the password on here so that all of us have it... and then when someone has news.. they can just email that account.. and whoever happens to check the mail.. can post the happy news...
thumbs up or down? i think it would simplify things somewhat... that way we wouldnt have to worry that the buddy would be in labor too :)

first-time mom - I have not experienced Braxton Hicks yet. Is it your whole entire stomach, or just a little part? It may be what I was telling you about on Saturday....when the baby pushes his head or butt out as far as they possibly can. It makes a huge, hard lump and hurts!!! I do know that I read that the BH can start any time after 20 weeks.
Bassinets - We are not having a bassinet because we have a one bedroom apartment. Baby has no choice but to sleep in our room. We bought a portable crib that has a bassinet setting. I love it!!
Showers - I know my mom is throwing me a suprise one in September. I want September so it is early enough in case I go into labor early. I also need time to teach my cat that the new baby stuff is off limits. I am sure I will have a shower in my DH's hometown in October sometime. That one probably wont be a suprise.
Buddies - I think the email account sounds like a cool idea. I like it because my hospital uses this website type thing to post your birth announcement and you have that emailed to your family and friends. I could just email the website. Or I could email to just one buddy. Doesn't matter to me. Whatever everyone else decides is fine.

Buddies I like the email acct idea! Also like the first timeline that was suggested - agree w/ the more spacing might be better. Alb I'll be your buddy! I'll have my girlfriend email you when I go into labor/deliver. You can have someone email me as well since the time diff etc. How exciting!!!
In other news... I'm scared. :( It hit me at work today that I'm going to be a mom when a woman said that I'm going to be busy soon washing all my newborns clothes and setting up shop for him. And - I don't really even know how to take care of myself and DH very well. Laundry for baby??? I'm the person that waits until the last clean towel is used before doing the laundry! I'm not the plan-a-meal-a-day person, heck we had cereal for dinner tonight. I'm not exactly the type of person that handles throw up/spit up that well when my cat is sick. So - how does one become a good mom? I feel like I don't have any motherly instinct... does it come automatically when the baby arrives? Also... I'm worried about my relationship with DH post-baby. It's been just the 2 of us for sooo long now... I really enjoy what we have together. What if a baby messes up our vibe? Is that mean to say? It's just that we have our corny rituals and jokes... What will happen when the baby comes? Will we still have time for each other? Will we devote all our time to the baby and not have enough of ourselves left for each other? *sigh* I feel like a tart for even thinking these things... but, like I said... I'm scared so I can't help it. Does anyone else worry about these things? About not having what it takes to make a good mom? I hope I'm not alone!!!
rochacha
07-28-2005, 05:39 AM
buddies I like the email account idea. It seems easier for some reason, takes out the "middle man".
sebs You are not alone! I freak out about it more and more each day. Especially when I think about what I did for the day, and then try to incorporate a kid into the mix. I think, oh hubby and I won't be able to do that, or how am I going to get all this stuff done with the kid??? It can be very overwhelming, and so I go into denial at times. :p
I think what I worry about most is how it is going to effect mine and hubby's relationship. It has been just the two of us for 12 or more years...ok we got a dog last year. But, we have gotten quite comfortable in our lives and I don't know how this will shake things up...only for the better I hope. One thing I am determined to do to to live our lives with our baby, not for our baby. I see many couple who do nothing except "baby baby baby", their lives revolve around the baby. I also see others that do all the things they use to do before baby, and bring the kid with them or get a sitter or maybe just modify a bit. I hope to be like that...we'll see.
Sebski-Everything will work out. I have a little one and don't necessarily plan meals out.
Job Update: I decided to call the company back. They are going to set up an interview for next week. I need to go and buy an outfit for the interview since I don't want to scream pg. If you look close enough you can tell. My biggest concern is not having paid leave. We will see how it goes. Maybe I can negotiate some things also.

Email account That sounds good to me too!
Seb I am TOTALLY freaking out too! I've been readint the baby bargains book and learning about all of the things that are dangerous and safety hazards...I"m making myself nuts! Plus, I have no idea how to take care of a baby either! I'm hoping those hospital classes come in handy! We also don't always have "real" dinners...just the other day my husband had frozen pizza and I had some pancakes! I keep telling myself it will all be fine...most of my friends said they felt the same way before they had their babies and you just "learn on the job" and you have friends/family/drs to help you out! :)
We put a down payment on our furniture last night! YAY! HEre is a picture of the set...we got this crib...but then ordered the 6 drawer dresser and hutch which is not pictured, but you can get the idea. We got it in the natural color. it's the Charleston line by Munire.

Now it's on to bedding. We need to pick this out so we can start painting the room. I love it when I can cross things off of my to do list!
Thank goodness it's cooler here now! I actualy felt a little chilly walking to thet train this am!

I just started looking at cribs "in person" yesterday with my mom. I have been scoping out cribs and other nursery furniture online, but we went to the best store in the SF Bay Area...Lullaby Lane. If anyone else is looking near San Francisco, I highly recommend it. It was recommended to me by a friend and they have everything!
Before I went shopping with my mom, DH and I had just had a yucky discussion about finances at 5 in the morning and I was feeling terrible. I feel bad saying this, because I know it is a luxury, but I may have to go back to work unlike what we previously thought. Again, I don't know anyone, especially someone who lives here in the bay area, owns a house and has only one income, but I am feeling really concerned about it. I never wanted that to have to be me. I think he was really freaked out about it because he started talking about moving out of state and getting a new job...I was almost in tears. Part of why he is so concerned is that we have been building up our savings for a long time and now, with the new house, big mortgage, and all the car trouble we have had, we are slowly dwindling. That and the fact that all this baby stuff is expensive (even if you do it cheaply) is putting a lot of stress on him and therefore on me. The point is, I was very encouraged when I saw so many great cribs that I thought were really afforable! YAY! It doesn't make all the the tricky financial stuff go away but lifts my spirits to know we can and will be able to get some great deals.
Email Account I think the email account is going to be great! Thanks for setting it up Miss Mod!
sem I love your crib! It is going to be gorgeous in natural wood. I am also anxious to start painting the room. I am pretty sure I want to do a sage green color but we have to choose the right one.
Tulip Good luck on the Glucose test tomorrow! 27 weeks! YAY!
clzj Good luck finding something great to wear to your interveiw. I hope you get whatever it is you want!
Seb I have days where I think about how much I cannot wait for BF to get here already and I think about all the wonderful things we'll do together and how much I can not wait to be a mom. Then there are other days where I am completely freaked out about how to manage everything...we don't even eat our non-planned meals at a table! We don't even have a table! How am I going to do on 2 hours of sleep with someone else that needs me/us for everything and all I want to do is take a nap? I really go back and forth between the two mindsets. I think that it is true what sem said, we will just figure it out and become parents as we learn from and with our children. I was a teacher before I was a librarian and it is amazing that the kids really tell you what they need to know. Not in so many words...but we will find our own style when our little ones tell us in their own ways what they need. SO scary, but I think it is good to be a little anxious because it makes you more prepared. Also, we are SO lucky to have a great support here...vent any time and we can all validate each others feelings!

sebski count me in with the other experiencing anxiety... i worry about the same things you are... we definitely are a catch as catch can couple when it comes to dinner and things like that... i am hoping that we are able to adapt.... i get the most panic-attacky when i think about the first day i have to be alone with the new baby... i hope i am not a total wreck... it makes me so worried just thinking about it.

I am thinking I might like to start a journal to keep my ideas and thoughts. I looked on the first page, but I am at a loss of how to actually begin. Can someone help point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Sebski - I have the same thoughts as you. I was just talking to the girls at work about this that I am very scared. How will I know what time to feed my baby? How will I know what time to put him to bed? How will I know if he is happy or sad or cold or hot or just uncomfortable? What if I forget to change him? What if I can't make him stop crying? I don't even have a washer and dryer...we live in a one bedroom apartment!! I am freaking out too. But you know what, we will figure it all out. We will know what to do and even if we don't, we can do whatever we want because it is our baby. No one can tell us what to do because it is ours and ours only. Yes, we will have to take full responsibility for ruining the kid, but I can't wait for that. He is mine and I get to decide and learn what is best for him. These feelings are normal and you will be great. You are not mean or selfish for thinking these things at all. I think it shows just how much you care because you are worried. But like I said, you will be great. We all will be great!
sem426 - That furniture set is absolutely beautifu! I love it!
abbytfox - You would want to go to the thread entitled All Things Journal. Then choose the section for A names. You then choose new thread. In the title line you put "Journal - Then your journal name." Write what you want to say and then hit post. You wont see your journal right away. The moderators approve it first and then post it so you have to keep checking for it. But that is all you do. Good luck!
I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. I have so much to talk to them about. I need to ask them about these awful dizzy spells I have been having, leg cramps, flying in August, and cramps.
I am also having a one hour massage tomorrow night. I couldn't be more excited. I am just so excited. I have it at the hospital where I am going to be giving birth. I can't wait. I have never had a massage before. It should be fun.
My child birth classes start Wednesday!! Anyone else starting classes soon?

Thanks so much! I really needed to hear that I'm not alone in feeling totally unprepared to become a mom. I guess I'll never have all the answers... hopefully I'll be a quick study when the baby comes. Or, at least a really good faker! ;)
2nd Timers How did your relationship with DH change after your first child joined the crew? Did it suffer or grow more from it? Any tips on how to keep each other in focus while welcoming your child? Thanks!
Sem Beautiful furniture! What sort of bedding are you thinking of? How about paint colors?
Tulip Good luck w/ your GTT!
abbytfox Don't you hate those finance chats? I'm still in denial about having to return back to work after the baby comes... right now I'm focusing on the maternity leave and *hoping* that we win the lottery or something between then and the big return. It's certainly not fun, but my DH is like yours... he's the financial planner and the one to keep things in perspective most of the time for us. We too just took on a big mortgage, and while we have a very nice savings, we won't add to it at all if I stop working. :( So, it's back to work for me. Stinks, but it's the best thing for our family in the long run. I'm hoping that I'll be able to stay home w/ #2... which, hopefully will come close to #1. ;) Just wanted you to know that you're not alone!
Lindzee82 Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow!

Alana- I am not sure if BH is what I experienced but if so its not painful its just a weird tightening. I dont know if it was BH or if the baby was sticking its butt or head out. She was moving around a hundred when it happened so I dont know if it was movements or BH. Lindzee explained that her baby sometimes sticks its head or butt out and she gets that same uncomfortabe feeling and of course it feels hard so I dont know. It hasnt happened since but my Doc said that is completely normal. She also said all pregnant woman contract from the beginning but some dont feel it. But with the way things are going for me I am sure I will be the one to feel it. I have felt every tug, ache, and pain so far.
I have a docs appt. tomorrow and I have lots of questions again. My glucose test is Aug. 9th.
I am leaving tomorrow for Prince Edward Island (Canada) and I am very excited i havent had a week off in about a year now so I am soo ready. I will be back on the 8th so have a good week everyone and take care.

Baby Responsibility - Hmmm...I don't feel so worried here. I took care of alot of babies when I was younger babysitting, so I feel decently comfortable here, but its still a little freaky to think that I will be in charge of a newborn. I'm not worried about it though. It more feels wierd to think that I wont be able to laze around the house and do the stuff I am used to doing now. That will take some getting used to. I'm guessing that I will be spending most of my time feeding the baby at first. I guess you know when to feed the baby by when he cries. Or just try feeding him every 1-2 hours at first. I'm sure we will be able to recognize some sort of pattern and know what our kids want after 2-3 weeks.
Childbirth classes - God I haven't even signed up for these yet. I dont really think I need them either. I have read so much stuff online that I feel prepared, but I think we will do it so that my DH knows what to expect. I may want to take another class on baby care, but I dont know...
Finances - I will be taking a 12 week maternity leave then going back to work. I'm not dreading it. I may try to work 4 days a week instead of 5 though. Right now I work M-F 8-5. I may do M-TH or something instead, just so I have 1 extra day with my baby. I dont think I would want to be a full time SAHM anyways, though working 3 days a week would be nice. But right now we need my income to help with the mortgage, and pay my car payment, and my student loans. Those debts will be gone in 4-5 years and then I could go down to 3 days a week if I wanted, maybe for the next baby. If I didnt have my new car and my student loans then I probably wouldn't have to work, but I probably still would. I dont know if my DH would agree to let me SAH. He doesn't want to work anymore than I do so it wouldn't be fair to him. Oh well! Besides I think a few days out of the house and in an office with grownups is good for me.

Alanna Wow, is it only 100 days?! But...did you post that yesterday, so now we're at only 99 days?!? Double digits, girl! But, wow, it's kinda scary, I have SO much to DOOOOOO!!!!
-
Sebski, I probably don't worry as much as I should about how the whole me-as-mom thing will work. I guess I've seen so many people that I could never picture as a mother transform into that role so beautifully that I have to just hope that the same thing will happen for me. And it seems like nobody plans meals, so don't worry on that score!
Abby, the money stuff is scary, isn't it? We came here with a lot of savings from NYC, which is really good, because I was hoping my NYC job would let me telecommute and they decided not to. Now I have this short term job, originally today was supposed to be my last day but they've extended it til the end of August. But when that's over, the job scenario for me looks pretty grim. I need to learn Greek, but even when that happens I'll be at entry level, because my NYC job doesn't exist here. And the money stuff frightens me, I don't just want to suck away our savings. I would actually prefer to work-especially since I don't have to worry about childcare, my mom (just retired from 30+ years as a kindergarten teacher) is coming here and both G's parents are retired, also. But I might be a SAHM because I have no other choice! Anyway, hopefully eventually I'll find a way to bring in some money so we won't have to always depend just on DH and savings.

Sebski We are looking at bedding...I think I like lavender/light greens..so we might paint the walls a light green. not sure yet!
child birth classes We are signed up for a 4 week course and it begins in September.
Baby care I don't have alot of experience w/infants so I think that's why I am a little nervous. I know that if I am unsure about anything there are tons of people I can turn to ...so that makes me feel better.
Finances This totally freaks me out too! We are tryign to do our best not to spend unnecessarily now on things, so we can focus on things for the baby. I'll be off from work for about 5 months..but that will be at full pay. I'm using all of my leave time, plus 18 vaca days from this year and some from 2006 as well. So that makes me feel a little better, but obviously I'd love to not have to go back to work or work part time (which isn't an option at my office now).
Lana 100 days wow! I can't believe how fast time is flying and it's August on Monday!
I have a dr's appt tomorrow am. I need to ask him about going to the dentist. I have an appt on Wed and usualy take amoxicillin before I go bc I have a heart murmur...so I'm not sure if I can still take that or if I need to do something else in preparation.

childbirth classes i just found out that our only two options were either:
the weekend of october 8th or the weekend of august 27th... i was hoping for september... but we decided that wed take them in august rather than wait all the way til october... i hope i dont forget everything!
first time mom i definitely get that baby sticking its butt out thing everyonce in a while... when she does it i have to either sit very straight or stand... otherwise it feel really uncomfortable and tight and my stomach feels very hard... last night it happened and i went and took a shower and jiggled my belly a little bit and that seemed to make her move... its a yucky feeling though...

I've been calling places near me since I was about 10 weeks along. Everyplace had a waitlist for infants. Most waitlists were until July 06! The other day I finally called one that my DH got from his friend and they had openings for February. So we went to check the place out today. It was nice. The building was brand new. They charge $160 per week for infants, or $120 for 3 days. Anyways, I put a deposit down. Just so I know I have someplace to bring my daughter when my maternity leave runs out. I'm glad I don't have to stress about this anymore. The last place I called was booked until next July and I cried when I got off the phone. Ha Ha!

With Matthew he moved all the time. I could feel his head, butt, legs, etc. This one is much calmer, plus my placenta is between me and thebabe so I don;t feel him as much as I would if it were behind him. I did feel his head the other day though. He was sticking it way out - and yes it was uncomfy.

Wow, I cannot believe that we already have 3rd trimester mommies on here :D We are off to Nantucket MA on Sunday for a (much needed) one week vacation!! I can usually never get DH to take a full week to go anywhere since he owns his own business, and never wants to close. So this should be fun, we rented a house and are going w. our best friends (another couple). DH even got me some O'Douls so I can share in the beers on the beach experience :D Of course I will be hiding under an umbrella out of the sun, but whatever lol.
After our vacation, we are really going to have to get moving on stuff. I am planning to finally open our registry and we need to decide on furniture. We think we have decided to paint the nursery a pale sage green, since that color goes well with pink or blue so we can do boy/girl accents. I have my first appt w. the new doctor on 8/10 when we get back, so I figure we will get childbirth class info then since we are going to be at a new (much better) hospital.
Around when do you feel the baby moving around pretty much all the time? Our babe is a tease, some days s/he is a wiggle worm all around, others just seems like s/he is napping and kicks only a few times when baby feels like it. I have discovered if I tap my finger on my belly, esp at the bottom, the little one will usually kick back. I love that, our first game together :) Right now the most activity I get is when I am laying down to sleep.
Thanks to our mod for setting up our email account, sounds like a great idea. Our hospital has internet photos of the baby as well, so I can probably link up there.
As for working after the baby, I am going to be a SAHM. I may go to work w. DH at his business after the babe gets bigger, we will play it by ear. I am hoping I dont become desperate for adult conversation so much that I attack DH when he walks in the door, or talk to him in baby talk  :D

So I had my appointment today. I left there and just cried in my car after. It was awful. I hate that midwife. I never liked her before, but I always keep getting paired up with her. I hate the way she talks to me and today she made fun of me for the questions I was asking. She was just so rude. I first told her about how I have been getting dizzy. She thinks it is due to low iron. I need to take two Flintstone vitamins each day. 1 in the morning and 1 at night. She also said I need to eat beef, chicken or fish every single day. She then proceeded to bash my diet and tell me all these great things I need to eat. Easy for her to say since she has never been pregnant and has never had food aversions. She made the comment - "you can either start eating right yourself, or I will send you upstairs for a blood test that will tell you that you need to eat better." Whatever. Then she tells me that I really haven't gained as much weight as I should have. Hello....last week you said I was right on target. How did I go from being on target to not gaining enough weight in a week and a half?? You all know I was worried before about being so small, now I am even more worried that Matthew isn't growing properly. So then I ask her why if my uterus is supposedly only an inch and a half above my belly button, why do I feel him kicking right uder my boobs? She says to me "gee, one week you are complaining because he isn't moving and then the next you are complaining because he is." Ummm....no. I want to know if I am feeling him kick or if I am feeling the vibrations through other organs as he is kicking lower. Then I tell her that I am not sleeping well. She says that I can take a Tylenol PM. I tell her those make me sick and she says "well what do you want me to do?" Well, I thought maybe there was a trick or something I should be doing to help me sleep in the second trimester. I tell her that I am worried about the GTT test that I have to take in 4 weeks. She says that I have already thought too much about it and that it is fine and not to worry. I told her that I am worried about the taste and texture of the drink. She says that she has drank it and it is fine. Okay, well have you drank it while you have had morning sickness when everything makes you want to puke? No you havent!!! Oh my god, it was just awful. I held back all my tears in the office as best I could, but lost it in the car. She made me feel so stupid and like I was such a bad mom. Nothing I do is good enough for her or right. I am just so upset and frustrated. I heard Matthew's heartbeat so I am not too worried about him, but he isn't kicking much again and I am worried about the growth issue. I am already looking forward to my next appointment August 22nd so I can hear the heartbeat again to know all is okay. This is going to be a long 4 weeks.
On a good note, I had a one hour massage tonight. It was really nice. She massaged my back, my arms, my thighs, my face, and my scalp. It was really great.

Lindzee OMG!! I think I wouldn't be able to hold my comments back and tell her what a bitch she is being! I'm sorry you have to deal with her, can you request someone else?? I would go out of my way not to get an appt with her!
From Wednesday's LJ entry:
I'm sitting here eyeballs popping out of my head, shaking like a leaf, from the glucose drink. All the while eating Tater Tot casserole (everytime Betsy mentions this, I have to make it) Let me explain why I'm at home and not getting my blood drawn!!!
I get to the doc's office and they weigh me(details later), I pee, blah blah. They give me the drink, I'm thirsty so I chug it down, and then they tell me there is a discrepancy in my chart and I'm doing the test too early. oh thanks a frickin' lot!!!! Why couldnt' they tell me this 3 minutes earlier. Now I won't be able to sleep when I get home! (remember I sleep in the day) Kaden is bouncing off my abdominal walls, poor thing. So I have to do the 1 hour test all over again in two weeks! DAMNIT!!! Oh well, my OB is really happy for me and Brad getting so far in the pregnancy. She called the baby VIABLE!!! If he was born right now, he would have a 50/50 chance of survival but would have lots of problems. Not that she wants me to go into labor anytime soon though. But it's a milestone. :) Weight.....OMG, I've never seen the scale go so high! I'm 150, so that's a total of 17 pounds. She measured me and it seems as though I have a giant baby!! I'm measuring a little over 25 weeks, so on the bigger side of normal. I'm so happy!
How the hell am I going to get any sleep today. Stupid sugary devil drink! ETA- I think my heart may pop out of my chest and I'm not breathing that well...

beevo12 - Yeah, everyone is telling me to call and change my next appointment so that it is not with her. However, being that I am using an OB office, and not just one specific specialist, there is no telling who will be on call when I deliver. I don't want there to be any hard feelings between us if I am stuck with her in the delivery room. It sucks, but it will all be over soon. Maybe I will get lucky and will get another midwife at my next appointment. I then start going every two weeks after that so I am going to request to see one of the doctors I haven't seen, request to see the guy doc who I like, and then it will be almost done and I won't have to worry about it anymore. Congratulations on having a viable baby!!! That is just so happy to hear and I am so excited for you and Brad. You so deserve this and I am just so happy for you!! I have never had a miscarriage before, but these journals sure do open your eyes to a lot of things that can go wrong. Each week milestone that I pass I breath a little more because that is one more week towards being able to have a strong baby should something happen at this point. I know that is awful to think about, but I am a worrisome person. I think the worst of things. Always have. I just want to get to 28 weeks and then I think I will relax a little more. I am so uptight! You poor thing with the glucose drink. I would have been soooo angry. I go for mine on August 22nd. I am nervous about the drink. I wonder why it is so important to do it at exactly 28 weeks? Oh well, at least you got to feel your son move a lot!! Matthew is being very lazy lately. Although this morning when I was trying to use my BeBe Sounds Monitor he was all over the place. Didn't like me pushing something on my stomach, I guess. I may have to start torturing him with it if he doesn't start playing in there on his own!! haha!! Got any recent belly shots?

Lindzee I am so sorry to hear what you went through with that super jerky midwife! I had a sort of similar experience so i thought id let you know you arent alone... i have a group situation too and I have seen two of the midwives available... one is fantastic -- the other one was really not nice.... im really sensitive to bedside manner... and well, the straw that broke the camels back so to speak - was when i failed my 1hour gtt and she didnt call me when she should have... (leading me to believe i passed - no call then no bad news) then finally when i chased her down... she was really curt with me.. said "what is it that you need?" and i asked her for my result to which she said in this really snotty way... "well, you flunked" like i said there had been som e other issues.. so i went to my next appointment with the m/w i liked and told her what had happened... (of course while i was sobbing - im totally unable to kee3p it together in situations like that...) and she was SO accomodating... she said she would bring up the issues in a anonymous way but just to ask to have my appointments with her from now on... and she even said there are ways to have someone different for delivery if it turns out that the bad one is on... its such a relief knoing i dont have to see her anymore... is there anyway you could request someone in particular for your visits? maybe they make it sound random but really there is a way for you to choose who you will have... and she would just think that it was random that you dont see her again.... noone should be allowed to see patients who is that lacking in bedside manner.. and further more you shouldnt have to put up with it... i think thats just awful.
anyway... in the meantime.. vent all that you want here... at the very least... we can validate your feelings of outrage!

Alanna - Thank you. I am so sorry you had a similar experience. Good for you for sticking up for yourself, though. I am just too shy of a person to do that. I will go to my next appointment and take the chance of having her. It is a very in depth appointment and I don't want to change the date since I already got the time off of work. But when I make my next appointments which will be every two weeks, I will request other people. But, I still may get paired up with her in delivery. Oh well, my dad will just tell her to shut up!!
On an exciting note....I don't have to pin my maternity shorts anymore!!! I put them on this morning and they fit me perfect!!! I am so excited. Stupid doctor telling me I am not growing!!! Ha!

Beevo, now you have me worried I took my GTT too early. I did it between the Week 24 and Week 25 points--Alanna has my same due date and I think you did yours before me, didn't you, Alanna? It's OK as long as you do it between week 24 and week 28, right? The weird thing is that here you have to go get all the lab work done yourself, they don't do it at the doctors' office, and she just told me "go before our next appointment, but not too much before". Our next appt is Monday, and so I went a week and a half before, but that's because the lab guy said he'd be on holiday all this week....?

I just had to post this morning!! The Bebe Sounds Monitor is one of the best purchases I ever made!!! Well, the best that DH made since he bought it!
You need to have a lot of patience and baby needs to cooperate in order to get it to work.
I have been trying it often since DH bought it for me a while ago. My problem was that it says you should do it after not eating for at least 4 hours. Well, I have to eat every 2 so that wouldn't work for me. Yesterday I tried it in the morning when I first woke up because them my tummy would be empty. I heard some swooshing sounds. Nothing big. I was sitting on the couch.
I decided to try again this morning. This time I brought the monitor in bed with me. I laid down and found his heartbeat on the second position. In the lower left hand side of my belly. It was sooo loud. I jumped out of bed and grabbed my watch so that I could time the beats to make sure it was him and not me. It sure was him beating away at 160 beats per minute! It was so strong and loud. I then got up and grabbed my cell phone to call DH in Oklahoma. However, the cell phone and monitor didn't mix so I told DH to call me on the house phone. The cord to the phone is not long so I had to bring the monitor, a pillow, and drag the phone down the floor. Found the heartbeat right off again and put the headphones up to the phone and DH was able to listen to Matthew's heartbeat!!!! Then DH told me how to record it. Of course by the time I got my lap top, the wires and settled back into bed, Matthew decided he wanted to lay on the other side of my belly. Right behind my placenta. So I was never able to hear it again this morning. But at least now I know the trick. I need to try it again next time I suspect he is laying in my lower left hand side. I am only 25 weeks (tomorrow) so I am still learning his patterns and how to feel where he is. I try to judge by his kicks, although I can't distinguish between kicks and punches yet. Whatever he does, he doesn't like the monitor at all. He tolerated it for a little while this morning when I was listening to his heart, but when I was trying again to get a recording, no matter where I would place the thing he would kick it (or punch it). So I have decided to now set my alarm clock 10 minutes early each morning and I am going to try and have a listen. I know now that I will only be able to hear when he is in that spot and so that means I wont be able to hear it often. But for the 2 minutes or so that I was able to hear it this morning and being able to let DH listen to it when he is across the country makes all the effort and $20 worthwhile. It is one of the best purchases we could ever have made. It was amazing!
So to those of you who have one. Keep trying and be creative with when you try it. Just be patient. If anything, you can probably get your little one to kick because they don't seem to like it very much!!

Lindzee and Lana I am sorry to hear you had such crummy experiences with your midwives. Lindzee don't be afraid to stick up for yourself! I am also in a group practice but I have been seeing the same Dr. my whole pregnancy, which is common for that office. I will say I am not as crazy about my dr. as when I first saw him for gyn stuff, but no major issues. Odds are that I won't know the dr. who delivers me, but I think the nurses are way more important than the dr. in terms of bedside manner/emotional support type stuff. I was there when a friend had her 1st baby a couple years ago and the nurses were awesome. The dr. was also good but he was only there for the very end. So Lindzee maybe that can help you feel a little better, even if you do get stuck with the lamo midwife.
Depending on which due date you use (Nov 6th vs. Nov 1st) I will be starting my 27th week this week, and the 3rd trimester!!! That is totally blowing my mind, wow! I have my next appt. 2 weeks from Tuesday, when I'll be doing the lovely sugar drink test. So I will be right at 28 weeks, maybe a few days beyond, hope that's OK. But they know that at the office so I'll try not to sweat it too much.
We painted the baby's room this weekend! Had some friends over Saturday to help us paint, which was totally awesome since it freed us up to paint the bathroom which also needs it. We picked a robin's egg type blue for the baby's room, it's brighter than we thought it would be on the wall but I still love it. It seems a bit overpowering without anything in the room right now but I know it will help to get furniture in there and stuff on the walls. At least I hope so ;)
I am impressed with those of you who can tell what part of your baby is where, I can't tell that at all, I definitely get the kicks and punches but can't distinguish the body parts. I did have a weird feeling that I thought was the baby trying to move some of my organs out of the way, it was pretty weird.
Here's a question for you guys, I don't think it's been asked: has your DH been able to feel the baby move? Mine has a couple times, it's funny because he doesn't quite trust himself that he's really feeling it but I think I've got him convinced now that he is. Reminds me of how I felt about it oh about a month ago :)
Everybody have a great week!

Shirsty, DH has been able to feel the baby move 4 or 5 times now. The first time was at least 2 weeks ago, but he doesn't feel her often because it's difficult to time...she'll move, I'll put his hand where I felt her move, and then....nothing for a while. Then he'll give up, and then sure enough she'll move again. But the couple of times he was able to feel it, it was almost as amazing for me as when I felt her move the first few times. To watch his face as he feels her move is to feel those first few kicks again myself. I know exactly the completely indescribable feeling it gives him. And it's so nice to be able to share something about this abstract pregnancy thing, that we go through mostly alone, with DH, with Baby's Father. Somehow it makes me look at DH completely differently in those random moments when I get a brief look forward in time, a little glimpse of what he will be like as a Daddy. (Or, more probably, as "Babas" --Greek for "Daddy".)

Wow! I can't keep up. I can't believe how fast this summer has flown by for me! I start back to school tomorrow (as a Media Specialist my contract is longer than a teachers).
I miss the tickers too! I can barely remember where I am much less everyone else! I think this tuesday I am 25 weeks! I can't wait to be done! Lily is becoming more and more "kicky". I remember this with Ben. But right now she is still really low - I mostly feel her kick almost down behind my pubic bone. I don't know if that is because she is a 2nd baby or because that is the way she is positioned. I guess that is better than up under my ribs where Ben liked to torture me.
Someone mentioned Dr's in a practice and the importance of nurses. Very true. Your Dr really is only there for the delivery - the nurses are there through the whole thing. I looooved my nurse.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Gestational Diabetes Test - I took mine at 23w3d and my OB didn't say anything about it. Thats when they scheduled me for it. I never heard that 28 weeks was the magic time to take it. Also, I didn't think the drink was that bad. It wasn't something I would choose to drink, because I dont like sugary stuff that much. But it was OK, just tasted like sweeter orange soda that didnt have as much carbination in it.
Lindzee - I can't believe your midwife is such a %*&#^. That sucks! I am at an OBs office with 3 OBs and 1 midwife and so far they are all very nice. I can't imagine having one that was so mean. You should definitely start requesting not to have her.
I went to the eye doctor on friday and my eyes have changed drastically. Lets put it this way they had not changed since 2001. My eye doctor is updating the perscription but I need to go back after the baby and have my eyes retested.

Thanks, shirsty! You are right, the nurses are more important because I will see them more. Yay for being in the 3rd trimester!! How exciting!! My DH was able to feel the baby kick a few times before he left. Since he has been gone I have taken video clips of the kicks so he can see them now. He trusted me that what he was feeling was the baby. He loved it!
Kristen - I know! I can't believe her either. I will start requesting different people after my next appointment.

So I had my 24w dr's appt today... gained 10 pounds since my last visit bringing me to a total of 25 pounds so far. I don't know where it's going because I'm not carrying huge and the boob fairy hasn't visited. Plus, people tell me all the time that I don't look as pregnant as I should for how far along I am. Anyway, my doctor was really kind about it - she knew I was upset and so she suggested I keep a food journal over the next 4w to document what I'm taking in. I know what I'm taking in - bbq's and bridal showers. I know it's bad, but the start of the 2nd trimester had me feeling so good that I ate it up. Literally. :o She also thinks I'm retaining water and that's part of the prob... my feet and legs are very swollen. I left her office in a funk, but I'm over it now. Not much I can do about it right this second, so I'll just trudge forward and be more careful and keep a food journal. My digi cam is dead right now, so after it charges a bit I'll take some belly shots and post them. I think the last one I have is from 16w so I'm way overdue for one!
They gave me the drink (mine's fruit punch - was prepared for orange though - anyone take the fruit punch?) for the glucose test which I'll take at my next visit (28w) on 8/31. I'm going to be an hour away on a mini-vacay and have to come back for it. Not too happy about it, but what can you do. My office refuses to do it before the 28w mark for some reason. In other news my belly was measured today and checked out great - right along schedule. After my next appt I'll start bi-weekly visits. We're moving right along!
Movement DH started feeling the baby move about 2w ago. To say he was amazed would be putting it too simply. He lucks out at night when we lay down since our little man seems to be most active then. He'll lay there w/ his hand on my belly while we watch TV and is able to catch some good kicks!

Alb that is a beautiful way to put it, about seeing a glimpse into the future with your DH as a dad. Makes me want to cry just thinking about it but what doesn't these days :)
Lindzee and Sebski love the belly shots! Wow we are all really looking preggo these days huh?
I had 2 people ask me (separately) today when I'm due, and when I told them Nov 1st - 3 months from today (which is the date I use most of the time) they both said 'oh boy you have a WAYS to go yet', just irked me in that special I'm-pregnant-why-don't-you-comment-on-how-far-I've-come-way!! I am amazed at how quickly I went from worrying about people not realizing I am pregnant to worrying people will think I'm too big. I think I had about a week of comfortable there.
About movement, I had the funniest thing happen today. I was reading the paper and had it propped up on my stomach and the baby kicked me right where the paper was, so hard that it bounced off my stomach! It was pretty crazy, that's the first time I've had something like that happen. Too bad DH wasn't there to see it!

Sebski - We are all certainly on a roll with our appointments. Seems like we are all getting annoyed at this point. I cannot believe you have gained 25 pounds. You look great!! I have gained 16 pounds so far. Most of it seems to be in my thighs.
Shirsty - Thanks! I have only had 2 strangers so far comment about me being pregnant by asking when I am due. Anyone who knows me always comments on how small I am. I hate that. This is the one time in my life I want to be huge. I want a big belly!! And especially after my last appointment, I want people to tell me that I look like I am gettting bigger. It is very frustrating. Too funny about the baby kicking the paper. That is so cute! :D
Anyone else's belly button pop yet? It grosses me out!!

Wow...things are moving fast in here!
I had my dr's appt on Sat. Everything is great. I'm measuring exactly right for where I am so far. My total weight gain so far is 12lbs. My next dr appt is 8/27 and I will have my 1 hour GTT that day too. That works out well bc I'll go to the lab (which is downstairs from the dr's office) get the drink, go upstairs for my appt and then go back down after. So i won't have to just sit there for an hour and kill time! My GTT is going to be actualy a couple of days past 28 weeks...but my Dr didn't seem concerned about that. The baby was very active at the Dr's office. She was dancing all over the place!
Sebski Great belly shots. There is no way you gaining 25lbs! You look great!
Lindzee Cute belly shots too!
Movement DH has felt the baby move quite a bit. He gets so excited when he feels her moving around!
registry We started one yesterday at BRU! It went very well suprisingly. I did alot of research and we got all of the big items we wanted. It was smaller things like bottles that I was confused with. There are so many choices. We registered for some Advent ones for now, but I can always change that. So now I"m obsessed w/adding things to the registry online!
I didn't see bedding that I liked there, so we're still on a hunt for that. I'd like to find something soon, so then we can decide what color to paint the room.

Okay, Sebski, we are TOTALLY pg twins. We're due the same date, and now we're gaining weight at the same rate! Really, though, you DON'T look as pg as you are- you look fabulous! You're only belly!
I don't have a belly shot to share just yet b/c DH took the camera to work and had to erase my nudie, Demi Moore 22-week shot so his co-workers didn't get an eye full! ;) I'll take another one and load it up tomorrow, though. I'm up 20 pounds already- I can't believe it! It is very humbling to see the scale go up and up every time I step on it.
Movement- has anyone's DH not felt the baby? I swear, every time I call DH over to feel the baby, s/he settles down! And s/he's been such a wiggle worm this week, I am just dying for DH to feel it!
Shirsty, I have seen my belly "roll" when I'm laying down (of course, no DH in sight! ) but no kicks hard enough to move the paper! That is really cool.
I don't have much to report, which is why I've been mostly lurking lately. I have my next appointment on the 19th, when I think we'll schedule the GTT.

103 days for me today! I wanted to share this with you, it's something you guys should try...
When I was about 6 months preggo with DS, I was taking a bath and the water started moving around me. I was laying still, so it wasn't me. I live in the bay area, so my first thought was an earthquake. It was my DS moving around! Very cool, and I have tried doing it during this pregnancy, but she is no where near as active as her brother was...

Thanks so much ladies - I needed that reassurance! I really don't know where the weight is going... I think I'm retaining water - my feet/ankles are sooo swollen. Maybe that's it? Who knows. I'm being good though foodwise. Keeping my journal and chugging my water. I got bored w/ the water and started supplementing with Gatorade and juice. I think the sugar did me in too. Oh well - only 3 more months or so, hopefully I can stretch the next 10 pounds over them. ;)
Kelly's Girl how funny that we are such preggo twins!!! Thanks for the belly shot compliment. I'm very happy that I'm pretty much all belly so far - hopefully that will continue!!! Can't wait to see your shots! My DH feels the baby move now - easier at night once we lay down to sleep. That's when the baby seems most active and DH is right next to me so he can quickly get in on the action! :)
sem426 the online BRU registry is DEADLY!!! :D I can't tell you how many hours I spent updating it online from work! I'm having trouble picking out bedding right now... haven't seen anything worthwhile. Thought about customizing until we got an estimate of $700 ! Um - no thanks. So I ordered a bunch of samples from Javis Davis and am waiting for them to arrive. Have you looked at their website?
Lindzee82 what's with the annoying appts right? I don't know if its because I'm getting more uncomfortable or what... but I'm starting to dread them. Stepping up to the scale is beginning to feel like a student heading into the principals office!
shirsty how funny that your baby made the paper move like that! What an active little one you have!
Possible TMI question...... does anyone groom "down there"? I used to get waxed periodically before getting pregnant. I switched to shaving since I had heard that waxing during pregnancy is most uncomfortable. Well, I officially can't see down there anymore and as such, can't get the job done by myself anymore. I was mortified yesterday at the doctor's because I got an unexpected internal (had some lower backaches - she wanted to check cervix) and I'm so ungroomed at the moment! :o Needless to say - I want to start waxing again... has anyone done this while pregnant? Does it hurt more?
Edited to add that nope - no belly button popping over here yet... it looks like its on the verge now though. I'm guessing it'll go any day now! :)

sem426 - Thanks! Yay for starting your registry. I registered for the Avent bottles, too. I like everything I have read and heard about them.
Hair Down There - I gave up on grooming. I used DH's beard trimmer for a while and shaved the top. No can do now and I am all alone so he can't help. Oh well. I can hardly see it so I can't really tell what others are seeing. It looks like a lot when I see it in the mirror. Oh well. It is amazing how much pregnancy has changed my view of my body. I have a great body image now. I have an excuse to look like crap and that is okay with me!!

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and we met with the nurse practicioner. I had been worried that BF was going to be huge (because of the u/s technician's comments) but my mind was put at ease. When she felt my belly she said that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. She also said that the u/s measurements looked great and that I had nothing to worry about. Next appointment I have to do the GTT. I am really not that worried about it now, because all of you have given me so much insight into how it works and what it is like. I am concerned about my weight gain...I seem to just keep packing it on, but haven't changed my eating habits all that much and I have added more activity in the past weeks. I have gained 26 pounds already! That is as much as my doc said I should aim to gain the whole pregnancy. I know I can't lose weight now, but I am starting to get a little confused at how it is SO easy to gain it. Especially this month, DH and I were working so hard on focusing on protein and limiting carbs and empty calories (that's what the doc said to do). No one seems that concerned yet, but I am starting to feel like I will just continue this way until I have this baby and I will have gained over 50 pounds. Not sure what to do.... The one thing my brain is telling me is not to worry about it too much because the stress is bad for the baby. I'm working on it.
This week I received a DVD I ordered called "The Real Deal on Breastfeeding" It is short, only about 25 minutes, but I think it is really informative. It shows mothers talking about issues surrounding breastfeeding and also how to do it effectively. I have watched a good friend get her baby latched on but it was so fast. This video shows it slower and explains it well. I am going to watch it with DH also because I think it is important for him to be on board as well (he is already, but not very educated about bfing) I wonder if you could find it at a library to borrow...if you are interested the website is http://www.realdealvideos.com/.
Grooming I can not shave because I get terrible ingrown hairs, but I have gone to get waxed since becoming PG. I didn't think it hurt any more or less than before I was PG. The lady was great! I am thinking that soon I will need to go again and I will. It was seriously no big deal...especially if you have been getting waxed for a while. I could not tell a difference in the pain.
Movement DH has felt it a few times, but is starting to get a little bummed. Everytime I say "BF is really moving" he'll put his hand on my tummy and it stops. I think once they are stronger kicks he will be able to feel them more. I do feel bad though...I want him to be able to feel how amazing and strannge it is! I love the stories from shirsty and asianbear about seeing something external move when the baby does. That is incredible!
Lindzee and Seb Great bellies! You guys look awesome...all belly!
Hopefully, I'll be back today to post my last couple weeks of belly shots.

I am 24w 1d, and feeling really good, despite the scale's reading!!!

abbytfox - Thanks! I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain, especially if your doc isn't worried. I hear stories all the time about women gaining 40 pounds or more and everything was fine. I think your body is just doing what it needs to do. Your belly pics look great! You don't look any extra big at all. Did your boobs grow a lot? Maybe that is where some of the weight is. You really don't look that big at all. So strange!

What classes are people taking to get ready for the baby, anyone?
I don't think I am going to take a childbirth class. I might if I was planning on going drug-free, but I fully intend to get an epidural, so I dont think breathing exercises and stuff like that is going to help me all that much. Plus I have read alot online and in books, so I think I will be reasonably prepared. I asked my DH this morning and he doesn't feel the need for a class either. My husband also doesn't want to actually watch the baby be born. He says he will be staying up by my head. Ha ha!
But we might take an Infant CPR class and a "Parenting for Expectant Parents" class. The CPR class is only 2 hours one night and the other class is 2 sessions of 2 or 3 hours each.
Anyone else skipping the childbirth class?

grooming Waxing all the way. I didn't notice that much more pain than usual. I think I'm just immune to the pain since I've done it so many times!
Sebski I haven't checked out Javis Davis, but I will now, thanks! I'm also going to check out Buy Buyy Baby tomorrow at lunch. There isn't one near my house in NJ, but I work near the one in the city, so I figured I'd walk over during lunch and see if they have anything different than BRU.
classes We signed up for a 4 week (once per week for 4 weeks) class on childbirth at the hospital. We also signed up for a baby care/parenting class that is one session. I'm also thinking about taking a CPR class.
rehoboth Welcome!
Well I guess I am officially looking like a preggo...I was on the subway yesterday and it was pretty crowded. I usually stand since I only have to go 2 stops. Someone got up from their seat to get off and another woman pointed to me and said..."there's a seat here" and motioned for me to sit down. I told her thank you very much, but I was getting off at the next stop. But, that was so nice! Most people in NYC totally ignore you and couldn't care less if you are preggo and will not give up their seat!

Kristen - I am taking a prepared childbirth class. I actually started the class last night. It is 6 sessions, one night a week. We will learn different things about labor and how to care for the baby. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can. Next week we have a watch a video of a baby being born. I don't know how I feel about that. I will watch behind closed fingers probably! I know a lot of people who don't take classes. As long as you feel comfortable with the knowledge you have, you will be good to go. Nothing ever goes as planned anyway, so I am sure I will use nothing I learn in class!

Sem I got my samples from Javis Davis and am pretty happy with the quality. There seems to be little, or no, difference between the sample swatches and the feel of the ones we saw at the custom place over the weekend. Just a HUGE price difference! DH and I can't agree on any of the patterns though. :( I'm working on him though. Calling in sick tomorrow and plan to head to the Baby Depot and look at bedding there. Let me know how Buy Buy Baby is and if it's worth a trip!
Classes We're signed up for 3 different ones right now... the childbirth prep (includes Lamaze), the taking care of baby one and a prenatal breastfeeding class. I want to sign up for the infant CPR but have to find out where I can do this since the hospital doesn't offer it... we have to go through a diff group for it.
Beautiful bellies ladies!!!!!!!! We're looking like some pretty hot mommas! :D

Wanted to let you guys know that I called today to set up a phone consultation (I guess that is when they take all the info of what you want and give you a firm price for your bedding) and the earliest time they had was August 16th! I was pretty surprised at how long I will have to wait even to speak with someone, but I have a little longer to work with as I am not officially due until the first week in December. Just an FYI if anyone else wants to use them...call as soon as you can, I think after you have the consult and buy your bedding it is 5-6 weeks for delivery. I am really excited though!
Birthing Class I think I am going to take a class even though I am planning on using meds for pain control. It is my job to sign us up...so I'd better get on it soon. We are also going to take a "Preparing for your Newborn" and obviously go on a tour of our hospital facility. I am thinking September or early October is a good time for us.
Today I swam laps and it felt great! I have been really self-concious about going to the pool, but sucked it up and did it today. No biggie. It was really strange though...when I was in the pool I felt fine and as I walked up the stairs to get out I literally felt myself get so heavy. As if someone was pushing on my shoulders. It was the first time I have "felt" like I am pregnant and heavier. Verfy wierd. I am going to try to alternate swimming and walking to keep in shape.
I do have a confession today...I really wanted some chex mix when I was grocery shopping and so I brought a medium bag home. (BIG MISTAKE!) I proceeded to eat at least 3/4 of the bag in one sitting while watching Oprah! Woah! Get a grip. Anyone else have an out of control pregnant eating story? I literally didn't even notice the bag was almost empty until I looked in it more than halfway through.

Love all the new belly pics! You all are so much more brave than me.
Classes I am planning on meds too but think we'll take a class. The regular one our hospital offers is 6 weeks long, but there's an abbreviated weekend course too, I think we will do that one. We will also do a one-day breastfeeding course too.
Abby the swimming sounds heavenly, I should do that. I am still doing yoga but it's getting harder to maneuver this belly into all the positions. There are 2 weeks left in this session, then a 3 week break before the next. I don't think I'll be signing up for the next session, but I want to keep doing it on my own.
I have a tip if anyone is looking for super comfy maternity sweat pants: Old Navy roll-up yoga pants. They have a waistband that you're supposed to roll down but I roll it up and they are sooooo comfortable on the belly.

Oh my gosh.. its been so long since ive posted... ive been following right along though!
things are going pretty well... i went to a bbq last weekend where there was another woman who shares my due date and promptly decided that she was the absolute authority on EVERYTHING and didnt let me say a word about my pregnancy or anything even when people asked me directly... truly one of the most obnoxious women i have ever met in my life. that aside... :) life is good. :p
there's no way i can all the way catch up.. but here goes...
GTT 1 hour Test i took this on the early side... like alb said at @ 23 weeks... but thats due to two things... one.. im overweight and two... my m/w's are self proclaimed diabetes hawks... so they have anyone who has any increased risk take the test twice... (yes.. i know you are all jealous... i get to do this all AGAIN :( ) so i will take it at about 28 weeks... i get to do the one hour (which is unlikely i will pass - since i didnt the first time... though this time i am DEFINTIELY going to fast before the test... i think its so dumb they dont tell you to do that... ) but im resigned that ill have to take the 3 hour again.. but hopefully i will pass that again too...
Childbirth classes we just signed up last week... turns out that there were only two choices for us... a weekend of classes (6 hours sat. 6 hours sunday) on the last weekend of august... or weekend classes on the weekend of October 8th... kind sucky choice... but we decided to go early and go in august.. good thing we called because we were the last people she let into the class because it was full...
speaking of childbirth classes... i was kind of stunned by how much it cost... they are charging us $200  is this the normal cost for something like this? we still have to bring our own refreshments... seems pricey... but i dont know...
As far as painkillers go... i am fully planning on having an epidural.. but i guess i have watched one too many episodes of "A Baby Story" and it seems like sometimes people labor pretty hard before they get to that 3-4cm dialated where they let you have the epi... im hoping that some of the relaxation techniques will help me get through to that point...
Welcome Rehoboth!!
Has anyone noticed that if we have one more surprise baby declared or join that we will have 8 boys 8 girls and 8 surprises in this thread?? i think thats sorta neat...
QOTD have any of the first time moms started looking for pediatricians yet? Im starting to think about this... it seems like a giant task to me... though my m/w said that at my 28 week appt next week they will give me a list of peditricians that are in the area... so i might work from that since we dont know anyone locally that we can get input from.. any advice from 2nd timers on how to go about the search?
thats about it from here... hope you all have a good weekend! :)

Classes Just signed up yesterday for the following classes...Newborn Care, Breastfeeding for Beginners, and Infant Safety which includes first aid and CPR. All of them are for the two of us to attend and were $35 - $40 per couple. I am still contemplating the Lamaze class for the exact reason Alanna stated. I am interested in having some relaxation techniques to get me to the point when I can have an epi, or if things don't go as planned (seems they never do!) I want to be prepared and not freaking out that I didn't do anything to "practice" relaxation. The class is $150...so that is where my hesitation is. If it is really important we'll pay the money...just want to make sure.
My best friend is coming to visit today. I'll check in later...Happy Friday!

Classes We aren't going to take any. I think they are WAY too expensive and to tell you the truth, I think I'd rather be "surprised" :p I might freak out too much the more I know.

beevo great belly shot!
sebski just got back from buy buy baby. they definitely had a bigger and better selection of bedding than BRU. They didn't have the exact ones I saw online, but they did have others of the same manufacturer (celebrations, glenna jean and laura ashley). I felt some of the sheets/bedding and was happy w/the quality, so I'm thinking of just orderng the set I like online even though I can't find a store that has it. i can always return it if i don't like it once I get it. I think BBB has a little higher quality bedding than BRU does in my opinion.
strollers I'm trying to decide between the Maclaren Techno XT and the Inglesina Zippy. Any thoughts? Second timers? I love the Maclaren, but the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have the "snack bar" in the front it's all open. They both get great reviews and I know people that have both and love them, but I can't decide! Any thought would be greatly appreciated!!
classes Yes they are expensive! Our 4 part childbirth was $135 and the one time baby care/parenting was just $35. I figured it was worth it though since I need all the help I can get :)
QOTD Alanna, we are going to an open house at the pediatrician's office we plan on using at the end of this month. My OB and a friend both have reco'd the office. There are 5 or 6 dr's in the practice and after meeting them we are hoping to pick the one to be our daughter's main ped.
Old Navy Yoga Pants Shirsty I have those too! i have only worn them once so far , but they are SO comfy!
Have a great weekend ladies!

My prepared childbirth class that is 6 sessions was only $85. All other classes are free. DH and I took an early pregnancy class back in April and I am scheduled for the breastfeeding class September 26th.
You look great, Yota !
In other news.... I am absolutely freaking out. I just found out that my gram has shingles. I was over her house for dinner Tuesday night. I don't know what to do. The pregnancy environment hotline is closed and my doctors is closed until Monday. I have had the chicken pox. My brother had chicken pox when he was little and he got shingles two years ago. I didn't catch it then. I am 25 weeks pregnant. I just don't know what to do and I am so worried and freaking out. What do I do???
Also, is anyone else having a problem with peeing when they sneeze?? This is just getting ridiculous!!

beevo - Thanks for responding! The peeing thing is very embarrasing, however I have been lucky enough to only have it happen when I am home. DH used to tease me sooo bad. Now that I am by myself it isn't so bad - Peanut wont tell anyone!! haha!! :p I am just waiting for it to happen in public, though. I would die!!

Beevo beautiful belly shot! :)
Sem thanks for the BBB feedback... the closest one to us is about a 30 minute drive, but sounds like it might be worth the ride. I'll have to drag DH out there tomorrow - he'll be thrilled. I took off yesterday and hit 2 diff crib outlet stores as well as Bellini again and Baby Depot all for bedding... turned up empty handed. I really liked one in Bellini but they want almost $900 for it.  Hopefully I'll see something in BBB. Which one are you going with?
$$$ Classes I was shocked to see how much they cost! Our childbirth/interacting w/ newborn classes cost $150 and then I wanted to do the prenatal BF class and that was $40. I'm not sure how I'm scheduled for them though... we received our letter/schedule in the mail and it says the classes run "9/14 - 9/228" for the one, then another set of dates for the others. I have to call and ask when exactly we are supposed to go... how embarrassing - we're already confused by the mere scheduling aspect of the class, let alone we haven't even started anything yet. Our son is very lucky. ;)

Well I am back from my vacation and I have to say it was pretty crapy weather. Oh well I got to relax anyway. I did have a little bit of a saga happen on my trip. I ended up in the Labor and Delivery room in Canada a little spooked. I had a braxton hicks contractions or so i thought i did before i left and they acted up on vacation. It seemed that I couldnt even walk without my uterus tightening up. It didnt hurt it just freaked me out. I went in and they monitored the baby and she was fine and they checked my cervix and it was long and closed so I dont know whats going on. I do have a question for you mommies though, this may sound dumb but does your stomach's always feel hard? Mine seems to feel harder when I am standing or walking up which I would think is normal bc of gravity but I am not sure. The only way I know I am having these contractions is if i am feeling my belly. i notice that throughout the day it feels harder than other times. Does anyone else feel this? I have my glucose test on Tues. so I will find out from her then but last time she told me that bh start on everyone at 17wk but some feel it and some dont? I am right there with a few of u girls who cant wait to see the 28th week. I will feel so much better. My hospital just delivered a 23 wk baby that is stable so i know i have a good hospital if it comes to that but i hope and pray she stays in there for the next 15 wks. ugh

Hawaii2SJ - Welcome!
first-time mom - Welcome back. Sorry about your vacation saga. I talked to you on the phone today so I wont get into it again, but I am sure you and your daughter are fine. Your doc will check you on Tuesday and you will feel much better, I am sure!! Thinking of you!!
Okay, I know I am horrible...but does anyone else have a fear of having an ugly baby? I just think sometimes, of my god what if my baby just isn't cute!! It freaks me out. DH is very attractive (I think) and I am okay looking...but together, what if we don't mix well? We both have strange noses. DH has very ugly feet. We aren't very tall. What if we don't make pretty babies? Does anyone else have this fear??

YIKES!!!!! Thanks for the warning!
In new developments - we have bedding!!!!!!!! I dragged DH to Buy Buy Baby today and he didn't like anything. I kinda liked a "Hug/Love - can't remember the name" set but he didn't. So it was back to Bellini where we purchased the only set the 2 of us both liked. After visits to 7 different stores and endless hours spent online hunting - we finally have a bedding set. I'm sooooo relieved. I dont have any pictures to post but it's blue/green/ivory/yellow and has little hot air balloons on it. :) Now we can purchase the paint and get started with the painting. We want to do a sky on the ceiling - soft blue sky with white fluffy clouds. Has anyone done this? Is it very hard to do?
first-time mom welcome back from vacay! Sorry to hear that you were in the hospital though - how scary! I haven't noticed my belly tightening at all... but, at my visit last week my doctor told me not to become worried if I feel that happen since it's BH contrax... guess I should expect it to start happening more now.
Lindzee I'm not very worried about having an ugly child so much as DS coming out missing a finger or a toe. I can't wait till he's placed on me so that I can count all his digits!!!
Lindzee82

sebski - I am not too worried about the fingers and toes because I am pretty sure we saw them all in our last ultrasound. However, DH only has 8 toenails, so I am hoping that isn't hereditary!! I am sure your little one is absolutely perfect!! Congrats on finding bedding. The sky ceiling sounds awesome!!!

I've been laying in the hospital! I went into the hospital Wednesday night (7/13) complaining of lower back pain and was not keeping anything down. They checked and discovered my cervix was dilating so I was admitted. I am on complete bedrest until further notice. I am trying to keep the baby in as long as possible. We are trying to get to at least 28 weeks since that was when Gina was born. I am currently 27 weeks. I have been given two steroid shots to help the baby’s lungs mature.
I haven’t had any contractions since the 14th and am still dilated to 4 cm. I have had 5 u/s since being here and the baby still hasn’t shown us what it is. This kiddo is as stubborn as its big sister was.
Complete bedrest sucks. I can’t even get up to use the bathroom! Mostly all I do is sleep and read during the day, DH has to go to work of course. He does stay here at night with me.
Please keep us in your prayers!

peeing thing LOL I'm sorry, I don't mean to give bad news. That is the way it was for me. I was told that after labor and delivery your muscles are a bit weak for a while (and they are), so everytime I coughed or sneezed I had to cross my legs. Much fun I tell ya.

Mrs Barkley, how very scary for you and your family! It sounds like you are right on top of things, though, you knew when to go get help and hopefully your doctor has things under control. Still, I'm sure that extended bed rest is NOT fun, and it must also be tough for your husband and your little girl! Hang in there, you, your little one, your DH and your daughter are all in my thoughts.
Sebski, you found bedding with little hot air balloons?! I'm soooo jealous! Do you mind if I ask what you're spending on it? I looked a little online for hot air balloon bedding, but I found absolutely nothing. I want to put hot air balloons all over our little girl's room. I was born in Alb NM (big surprise, right), and I've been enchanted with hot air balloons all my life because of the hot air balloon fiesta there every year.
Does anybody have their crib bumper and other bedding yet? How do they work, are they made to a very specific size, to fit a standard size crib mattress? Or are they adjustable at all? Cribs (and mattresses) are all different sizes here, so I'm not sure how that works with bedding (fitted sheets? etc?).
beevo12
08-08-2005, 05:04 AM
ALB I know Javis Davis used to have hot air balloon bedding. I wanted to do hot air balloons too. Maybe they still have the material??
OK, is anyone else here not a millionaire and NOT getting a BRITAX carseat or travel system? Or am I the only one going with Graco or something similar.
albuquerque
08-08-2005, 05:35 AM
Beevo, I think we're going with the Graco travel system, too. Carseat + stroller (but no carseat base, those for some reason double the price of the carseat here), cost E219, and the next least expensive option we've seen is something like E100 more expensive. I read all the wonderful reviews on the Peg Peregos and the Zippys and the Bugaboo stroller that everyone raves about and my friend loves, but good grief, it's $700+ and we're talking about a *stroller* here, not a car! Hopefully the Graco will work, the wheels won't fall off, and it has a nice big storage area under the stroller. I seriously considered the more expensive options but I just can't see spending the money, especially before we really know how much we'll use the stroller. So, Graco it is (or probably will be), for us.
Now I'm off to check out the Javis Davis hot air balloon fabric!

Beevo- You look fantastic!
Mrs. Barkley - Sorry to hear about you dialating. I hope the baby stays in there and you are able to go a few more weeks. I can't imagine being on bedrest. Get some good book sto keep you busy.
Baby stroller - I went with the Graco Snugride carseat. My aunt bought it for me I think it was $99, and I am getting a Peg perego P3 stroller. My brother is buying us that as a baby gift. Lucky us! I would probably go with a Graco Metrolite stroller if I had to buy the things myself. The Snugride will work with the 2005 P3 which is nice. I think alot of people dont realize that. Because I agree that spending $179 on a Peg Perego carseat is just insane. Especially when babies usually outgrow those infant seats at 5-6 months old.

Beevo, I'm so psyched with the wallpaper border you found!! Are you using it? Will you mind if I steal the idea from you? I *love* it! We're painting the walls a light green (bought the paint the other day, I hope it turns out the way I want it to, you just never know how paint will look until it's up on the walls) and I think that border will be beautiful with light green walls and white trim.

mrs barkley I hope that baby stays put! Good luck and I hope your bedrest goes by quickly.
Strollers/Car Seats We registered for the snap n go stroller for the beginning to work w/the graco snug ride car seat. then i decided on the Inglesina zippy stroller. It gets really good reviews and a few people I know that have it say it's great I think it's $289. I also registered for the Britax conversion car seat. It's pricy, but it gets great reviews/safety marks. It also can be used up to 65lbs so I'm hoping we'll get a few good years out of it. I'm pretty sure someone will buy it for me off my registry, so luckily I don't have to pay for it myself!
Seb YAY for finding bedding! We also bought bedding ths weekend! We went with one of the first ones we saw online. It's by lambs and ivy and they said they had it at BBB, but they didnt :( . but we found it at Baby Depot. They ddin't have all of the "extra" pieces, so we'll just order those online. But like you said, now we can paint the room and get moving. Here is a picture of it. We're trying to decide between paintiong the room lavender or the sage green color.

I've skimmed a bit since I've been gone.
Classes, ours cost about $185 for both of us. The BF one would have been another $40 but my SIL is going to help me for free instead. We're going 2 Saturdays - Sept. 10 & 17 from 9am-3pm each time. It was the only class that we were eligible for since our due date is Oct. 28 and they want you to be done about 6 weeks prior to that date.
Peeing, since I had a bad cold in the begining of July I've found myself leaking a bit of pee when I cough too hard. I've been wearing panty liners religiously and it's helped.
Hosptial Tour, we just signed up for our tour on Sept. 14. Has anyone else registered for theirs yet?
1-hour GTT, it was a nightmare to get to the blood clinic but that's a long story. I had it done last Tuesday at 27w4d (a little late). I should get my results this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Belly talking, Dan has now begun to talk to my belly constantly. Sometimes its funny and cute but other times it's irritating.

3rd Trimester - My Pregnancy Week By Week book says that the 3rd trimester starts at 28 weeks. That is just 2 more week for me!
Classes - We are going to take a 3 hour Infant CPR class for $35/couple. Then we are going to take a parenting class for new parents that is 4 classes, each class is 2 hours and I think the price is $75/couple. I am not doing the birthing class, but I think the prices for that ranged from $140 - $200. None of them were offered by the hospital, although one did give a hospital tour of the maternity ward.

Mrs. Barkely So scary! I'm glad to hear that everything is ok for now and hope things stay that way. Thinking of you!
Peeing Luckily I haven't had any issues with this yet. I have heard from other moms that especially after the baby if you have to go, you have to go NOW or risk not fully making it there in time. Not something to look forward to!
Strollers DH and I are going to an informational talk tomorrow night at the store where we are going to get our furniture. They sell everything for baby...strollers, car seats, clothes...like a smaller version of a baby superstore. Hopefully they can help us narrow it down. Originally we wanted a bigger, more solid stroller for walks around the neighborhood and longer trips like to the zoo and a smaller, lighter stroller for going to the mall that would be easier for me to get in and out of the car. Now, because they are all so expensive, we're not sure. I really love the Peg Perego A3 and the Zooper Boogie. Both car seat compatible and about the same in price. For a smaller stroller a Maclaren Umbrella stroller was recommended to me. Not car seat compatible, but does have a full recline for newborns. Hmmm...there are just SO many choices. We are borrowing a snap and go from a friend for the very beginning.
Bedding So sweet, sem! Your purple and green is really cute! Congrats Sebski, on finding bedding you and your DH liked and could agree on. It sure is a task! I know I already weighed in on this one....we're going with Javis Davis. I was really irritated when I showed my mom, very excited, and she said "So if it's a girl, how are you going to make it more feminine?" I said, trying not to be too snippy, "I think it is feminine enough!" I am really not into everything for a girl HAS to be pink and frilly and everything for a boy HAS to be blue. I guess she has a more old fashioned view of things. It was just annoying that we had spent so long making the perfect unisex bedding decision and then she makes that kind of comment. Don't get me wrong...pink on a girl is darling, but I don't need to have pink everywhere if BF is a girl.
Third Trimester I have read conflicting things. Yesterday I read that it starts with week 25, but another book says that your sixth month is from week 23 to 27 and I would assume that the 3rd starts when you are just starting your 7th month. So you have 3 months left 7, 8, and 9. Anyone else with an idea about this?
Mom at appointment Has anyone had their mother come with them to an OB appointment. My mom really wants to come with DH and I to the next appointment. I said ok, but wonder if it is strange for her to come to a routine appointment. What do you think?

albuquerque - I bought a small, wooden portable crib. The bedding I bought has a bumper, sheet, and quilt. It was all perfect size. But I think portable cribs are all just one standard size. I am not sure how it works with bigger cribs that come in different sizes, though.
beevo - I am getting the Graco Snug Ride infant seat in the Colby print and the matching Graco Metrolite stroller. I have never heard of Britax.
sem - Beautiful bedding!!! I am considering 28 weeks the start of the 3rd trimester. So I will officially be there on August 22nd! I try to do kegels but I am not really sure how to do them so I don't know if I am doing them right. I am under 100 days too!! 98 left, to be exact!! Down to double digits!!
clzj - Glad your appointment went well. I have my glucose test on August 22nd. Not looking forward to that and I have to get the RH shot. I can't believe you have only gained 7 pounds. I had gained 16 at my last appointment and my doc said that wasn't enough!! I measured 23 at my last appointment, too. I am not sure what that means either but I thought you were supposed to measure the same as however many weeks you were. But I measured 23 when I should have been almost 25 weeks. So I don't know.
abbytfox - My mom has come to two of my appointments so far. No big deal. I think it would be great for your mom to go as long as you feel comfortable with it.
Kelly's Girl - Yay for your DH feeling the baby move. How exciting!!
Here are this weeks belly shots:

Hot air balloons Alb - I don't mind your asking about cost... we splurged on the bedding since our parents are paying for the nursery furniture. It cost us $900 for the bumpers, comforter, dust ruffle and sheet... :o I called Bellini today and it's called Heavenly World by Navas Designs. I was able to find a picture on the Navas website:
http://www.navasdesigns.com/images/Heavenly-World.gif
It's hard to tell by that picture, but the balloons are small and are located on the ivory sections of the quilt as well as the bumper. :) I was so siked to finally start buying accessories that I ordered these today to hang from the ceiling:
http://images.ballarddesigns.com/images/prod/detail/AA824BLU-V-D.jpg
DH is supposed to be painting the 'sky' on the ceiling - hopefully it turns out ok! :)
Belly talks cute story... DH tried talking to the belly last night but got no reaction. He gave up and decided to lay his head on it instead. Two seconds later the baby kicked the hardest he's ever kicked before - he kicked his father in the head! :p DH's face was PRICELESS! He couldn't believe he felt a kick that close. Made our night!
Strollers we registered for the Peg Perego Pliko and the Viaggo infant seat. I didn't like any of the Metrolite prints, but I did fall in love w/ a Graco Quattro print. However, it folded up way too bulky and heavy for me to manage comfortably alone. We have a very steep driveway and loading/unloading our cars is a hassle because of it so we wanted to keep the stroller as easy as possible. The fact that the Peg folds up like a lightweight umbrella stroller is what won us over. If the Quattro had done that - it would have been Graco all the way. I work in the city and see all the Bugaboos and prams - it's a waste of $$$ in my eyes.
3rd Trimester my doctor told me that I would be in my 3rd tri at my next visit - and I'll be 28w then. I've read that it starts at 27w.
Sem beautiful bedding choice - I love the little chair!!!
Lindzee lovely belly!

Lyndzee Cute belly shots! You grew!
Alb I don't mind at all if you use those! I changed my mind on the hot air balloons somewhere down the road. I'm going with Jungle theme, I got a good deal on the bedding. :) And it's super easy to get decorations for.
Rikki Good! I'm glad it's not a terrible brand or anything. I'm getting a Graco too!
Sebski Beautiful bedding! And I love the hot air balloons hanging from the ceiling!
Belly Talk Nope, DH doesn't do it, and I don't think he plans on it. He told me that he doesn't have the same connection with Kaden as I do right now. I'm actually going to be worried about him during delivery, he's one of those guys who will faint at the sight of blood or get queasy and pale with all that stuff. I should bring an air mattress for him to the hospital so he doesn't hit the floor as hard. :D

Lindzee, you have really cute belly shots!
Beevo, seriously thanks for the wallpaper border link. I ordered some yesterday--it doesn't look very babyish, really, it's the green version of the more old-time balloons border, 7" high, I think. I just think it's really pretty, and I hope when it comes it will look nice at a sort of chair-rail level around the room with the green paint we bought. I considered doing stripes or something, but the room is *extremely* small (8' by 8'7" floorspace, not including closets) and I decided that if I could find a nice border (thank you!) that would be it for special effects. Too much else would be overdoing it, I think.
Sebski I love LOVE your bedding and your hot air balloon models. They are really, really beautiful. I think we're going to end up being very boring in terms of bedding--I asked my mom to get me one of these breathable bumper things--very plain, mesh, with a green satin trim--and we'll probably go with solid color sheets and not much else. I kind of regret not getting the beautifully designed things I see everyone else buying, but I just think, knowing the kind of people we are, they wouldn't get much use. We will end up mostly using whatever washes most easily and doesn't get stained, and I'll want to have several sets of sheets for frequent changes, so I guess DH would divorce me if I spent mega money on lots of sets of designer sheets. Plus I'm extremely paranoid about suffocation risk, so I know I'd be afraid to let Baby touch most of the beautiful bedding things I see being sold. I think I'm going to keep to green and white things, and let that be our "theme". I do want to put hot air balloon decorations (in brighter colors) on the walls, and hang some models from the ceiling, but before I buy anything I'm going to try to make some models. This sounds crazy but we did it in elementary school (hot air balloons are a big thing in elementary school in Albuquerque), and it really isn't hard. So we'll see how that turns out, and if I'm disappointed with it I'll hunt around and try to find some models as beautiful as yours.
Moms at appointments--well, my mom is staying with my cousin in New Jersey right now for 2 months, and afterwards she'll go back to her house in Missouri...so I guess no, she won't come to any appointments. I wouldn't mind her coming to appointments as long as there weren't any internal exams, I guess, I know she'd love it, especially since we get an ultrasound at every exam. Right now she's trying to work out the plane ticket issue to get here for the delivery. Originally she was thinking of coming early-to-mid October, but tickets are sky high, and her travel agent told her prices go down after October 28th. So now she's wondering if that's cutting it too close (my edd is November 5th). Anyway, I hope she'll be here for the delivery and those first few days, but I think it's actually more important to her than it is to me. But then on the other hand she's living on a public school kindergarten teacher's retirement, so money matters, also. We'll see, I guess.
Classes--I don't know what to do about this. I really want to take some classes, because everything is so different here from what I've read about and heard from my friends in the US, but the midwife that my doctor works with doesn't speak English so well and my Greek is pretty sketchy. This is a problem because from what I understand, the midwife stays with you the whole time you're in the hospital. I had another midwife who trained in London referred to me, and I asked my doctor if she'd be willing to work with someone else. She didn't say absolutely no, but she did really encourage me to "at least meet with" the midwife she works with. Typically here the childbirth, etc classes are run by the midwives, but I don't see the point really of going to a class where I'm going to understand less than 10% of what's said and completely depend on DH for translation. (DH is a quiet type, when it comes to talking, his theory is less is more. We'll be watching TV and there'll be 2 or 3 people shouting at each other and crying for like 15 minutes, and when I ask him what's going on, he'll say, "oh, they're arguing." Gee thanks. You can see why I don't want to depend on his translation for something like childbirth class! "Well, you push and the baby comes out." I can see it now.)

Haha!! I know!!! Yep it was about 6:30am when I made that post. I get up at 6:15. I have to leave my house by 7:50 to get to work by 8:30. Sometimes I have to get up at 5:45 (usually once a week) when we have 8am meetings!! It is not fun at all, believe me. Right now I am working about 45 hours a week. We are very short staffed. If this keeps up - the overtime- I am going to ask my doctor to give me a note to reduce my work hours down to like 35 maybe and then I will try to go in an hour later or something. It is very hard getting up early, especially when I don't sleep well at night anyway. I hate it. But, there is nothing I can do. I need to work and get used to being tired all the time because I have to go right back to work after I have the baby. I fear that I will be tired the entire rest of my life!! Oh well. What time is it on your end, anyway? Take care!!

Greece is 7 hours ahead of the East Coast. I have the opposite problem that you have with work--I'm on a temporary contract with a company based in London, 2 hours behind me. They don't send me anything until fairly late in the morning, so I get to sleep in until at least 10am my time (8 in London), but then they tend to work a bit late, til at least 6 or 7 or sometimes 8 pm London time--which puts me at 8 or 9 or 10, Greece time! Ugh. Not that I should complain, I'm happy to have the work because when it's over (end of August) it will be really tough for me to find another job. Another sense in which I have the opposite problem from you regarding work--you *have* to go back right after the baby, and I *can't* go back no matter how much I'd like to because it probably just won't be possible to find a job!

I thought most people had to get up at 6:00am - 6:30 to get to work on time? I get up around 6:15 or 6:30 every morning. Thought it was the norm???
3rd trimester - I made a mistake yesterday. My book says it starts at 27 weeks, not 28. So I guess Sunday is the official start of the 3rd trimester for me.
Hot Air Balloons - This may sound a little odd, but if anyone wants some real pictures of hot air balloons, let me know. I have a ton of digital pics I took this summer when the local hot air balloon festival was in town. They fly right over my house when the wind is right so I got some great photos. If you wanted some to decorate the nursery or something?

During summer hours I start work at 8:30am so I get up at about 7:30-7:45am and during the winter when I start at 9am I get up at about 8am. I like my sleep. :)

Seb Love the bedding! We looked at Bellini as well and I've been on Nava's website, their stuff is gorgeous!!
Lindzee Great belly shot!!

Hello all! Thanks for the warm welcomes. I've been reading along but haven't had a chance to post til now. :)
Peeing Yes, I squirt if I sneeze, cough or laugh too hard. Sometimes it happens when I am brushing my teeth. I have to agree with Rikki--it doesn't get much better after the baby comes. But that brings me to...
Kegels I did kegels religiously after DS was born and it helped a lot with the peeing issue. Guess I should be doing them now, too!
Birth classes I didn't take any and considered taking some this time around, but then I figured, why bother? :p
Belly talk Yep, DH talks to the stomach all the time, usually into my belly button. He says that's the microphone directly to the baby! :D His talks with the kid aren't too original...just a "Hello, we're excited to meet you and be nice to Mommy" or some variation.
Nursery I am sheepish in telling you all that I have made no plans for this kid's nursery yet! No theme, no bedding picked out, nothing. We haven't even cleared out the baby's room, which is currently our storage room. I doubt we'll even paint it before the child arrives since we don't know what gender we're having and I don't want to do a gender neutral room. Ahh, how different things are with the second child over the first! We do have a place for the new baby to sleep, though. At least I am prepared that way. :)
Graco We used a Graco travel system for DS and loved it. We plan to do the same for this child.

Here's me at 24 weeks--almost a month ago! I will take new belly photos at 28 weeks, so sometime this week.

Wow... this thread has been moving like crazy in the past few days... yay!
Getting up I wake up at 7pm but dont really "get up" til 7:20 I start work at 9am and have a 30+ minute commute.. im chronically about 15 minutes late.
I love listening in on all the Hot Air Balloon design talk... you are going to have gorgeous nurseries... i think its a really happy theme. I especially LOVE those hanging balloons you ordered Sebski
3rd trimester i am going with 27 weeks being the start... we read "pregnancy week by week" and they started this week with a Welcome to your 3rd trimester comment.. so thats good enough for me... plus i check the fertility friend pregnancy weekly info page and they too said happy third trimester...
Does anyone know if they are having a shower?
Im watching my calendar fill up like crazy for the next couple of months.. noone has said a word about having a shower for me.... :(
as of this morning, I only have 3 free weekends between now and mid-october... and i really really really hope that if i have a shower that it wont be that close to my due date (id like it at least 3 weeks out....)
... i think there is a real problem with having a due date in the beginning of a month... people keep thinking "oh november.. thats like thanksgiving time" but its like 3 weeks earlier than that... I wouldnt expect one except that i am the youngest of four kids and everyone else has had one thrown by my mom and the sisters... i dont know why i would be any different... i hate not knowing and not being able to plan. ah well... i know there are much more important things to worry about....

Alana, is there anyone you could ask discreetly about a shower? I know mine is Sept. 11 which is far enough away from my due date that we can get the important stuff (crib bedding, car seat, etc.) if no one buys it for us. I know that my mom is buying our crib and my BFF is buying our change table.

08-09-2005, 08:34 AM
Tulip I may come out and ask... I feel weird doing that because noone has said anything at all... it makes me feel weirdly greedy... i even felt bad when we started our registry because since no one had said anything... it seemed like a really forward thing to do...
It is very possible that if i do have one that they will try to do a surprise... (v. common in my family) but its going to be hard for them at this point because my schedule is so full... maybe its all under control... i dont know... i just wish i knew so that we could plan around it... my family tends to wait til the last minute on things.. which worries me.. my bridal shower was less than a month before my wedding.. which just wont fly with the baby shower.. im already getting really uncomfortable.. i cant imagine trying to be happy and gracious at 8 1/2 mos...
okee... now i am sounding really whiny and spoiled... i know i should just be happy with whatever happens... buti guess its one of those self-pitying days. (sorry everyone!)

Alanna I'm sure you are having a shower...esp since you said that all of your sisters have had one. They are probably trying to surprise you!
belly talk DH talks to my belly sometimes, and can't believe it when he feels the kicks and the force they come with! He told me last night he had a dream about the baby. He was watching a football game w/our daugther! So cute!
QOTD How long up to your due date are you going to work? I want to try and work as long as possible up to my due date so I can save all of my days off for after the baby arrives. I guess I'll have to see physically how I'm doing towards the end since I have a 50 minute train ride to work everyday. Plus the steps up and down at the train station might be tough towards the end.

Alanna, no need to apologize. I think that every woman hopes to have a baby shower with the first one. There's so much to buy and you start to figure out how many people's showers you've been to. I know I have. Maybe they have cleared a date with you DH? I'm hoping it's a surprise one and they already know you have the day free.
QOTD, my last day at work is Oct. 7th. My due date is Oct. 28th so it'll give me (technically) 3 weeks off before. I wanted to take some time before hand to finish stuff up and relax before the baby. Work is driving me crazy and it just seemed like a good idea. The bonus is that we get a year off in Canada so I don't have to worry about it eating up my time up after the baby is born.

rehoboth - Don't feel bad we're slacking on the nursery for #2 too. I keep going back and forth on what I need to do. He's going to the bassinet when we first come home so I figure we have some time. Last time with my daughter I had everything for her nursery planned and underway by now.
Moving - We finally sold our house and we're set to move next Wednesday. Haven't packed a box yet, must get on that tonight. I'm hoping once we get into the new house, I'll make some decisions on what to do about #2's room.
Doctor's Appt - Dr's appt is 8/18.. I have my GTT..hoping that goes ok.
Other news - My daughter is almost 1! yay! We'll be havng her 1st brithday over Labor day weekend. Also, my sister is pregnant, so Kailey and Cameron will be getting a cousin in March. :)
QOTD - Working: Last time I worked until 34 weeks full time, then I worked part time from home until 38 weeks. I worked up until the day before Kailey was born, I will probably do the same again this time.

QOTD - I plan on working right up until the very end. I am only taking 12 weeks off and I dont want to waste any of that time sitting around at home beforehand twiddling my thumbs waiting for my baby to make an appearance. Luckily I only have a 15 minute drive to/from work so I dont have to deal with public transportation or sitting in traffic, etc...MAYBE I will stop working the Friday before my due date (Sunday) and hope my girl arrives sometime the next week. We'll see how I am feeling I guess.
Shower - I am having a shower on 9/17. Its kind of early because I need to drive to Boston for it. And I know about it because I have to travel for it. This one is being thrown by my mom and will mostly be her side of the family + some of her friends and stuff. I think my MIL and SILs could throw another shower for me up here, but we'll see if they do or not. If they do I imagine that one will be in October since we all live in the same area. Its not so hectic to plan and I dont need to know about it to travel to it. It would probably be a surprise.

Working I'm torn on when my last day should be. My job is only guaranteed for 26w of leave. That leave starts immediately after I deliver. However, I plan to take 2 weeks vacation time before my due date in order to give the "2 weeks before" cushion for delivery. Prob is, I'm due 11/22 but the baby is still measuring at an 11/12 due date. I'm torn on when to start the 2w vacay leave... if I start it too early, I'll have to dip into the 26w leave and I don't want to touch that before the baby comes. Want to spend the bulk of my time with him afterward. So - I'm tentatively thinking of 11/3 being my last day... that gives me a little over a week before the 11/12 due date, and some time after in case he comes between the 2 dates. Does that sound good? I would hate to go out too early and use the time before he gets here... but, I'm terrified of my water breaking on a train during rush hour - or even worse, on the trading floor! I guess I'll be able to gauge better once I get closer and see how I'm feeling.
Shower Mine is in the middle of October... my sisters sent me the invite along with everyone else so that I could see it, know the details and have it as a keepsake. :D I'm also having one here at work, but I think that will be closer to when I go out on leave.
Alanna how about hinting around re: the shower by stating to a bunch of people how busy you are in Sept/Oct etc.? Maybe mention that you don't have any spare weekends etc. That might get them thinking - or even offer up info if a surprise shower is in fact being planned. If it were me, I would hint around that way so as not to have to come right out and ask. Just bring it up a lot - I'm sure they'll get the point! ;)
Alb Your nursery plans sound fab! I think the green/white color scheme w/ balloon accents sounds lovely... and, I think your mom will have enough time before your due date if she were to fly out later. I know how expensive flights to Greece can be... one of my friends husbands was flying out there a couple of months ago for work or something and she priced flights to see if they swing her traveling with him. Um - not quite! Shocking how pricey flights are! So - I say have your mom save the $... that way she can put the extra $ toward spoiling the baby. ;)
Edited to add that I can't believe we have 3rd trimester mom's in the thread already! Are we really that close???

QOTD I think I'll take off at 36 or 37 weeks to relax and prepare for my little arrival. I had originally planned to work all the way to the "end" since I work downstairs from Labor and Delivery.

Hawaii lovely belly shot! So fun to see all the beautiful moms to be. I am loving the healthy glow I've got going, my DH keeps telling me how great I look :) Of course I think geez I'm going to look pretty tough after the baby comes so enjoy it now!
Working I too am planning to work right up until the baby comes, I was just talking to my boss about this today. I will start getting phased out of active cases pretty soon since I won't be able to see them through to completion. I hope to make it until mid-October and then just see from there how things are going. I can guess that I'm going to be antsy at the end though so I might be glad to be at work and have some distraction.
Peeing I am sad to say I've had some minor peeing issues for weeks now, I am doing pantyliners everyday and that takes care of it, but still it sucks. I hope this doesn't mean I am doomed after the baby comes.
Lana I don't blame you for wanting to know the date for the shower, I would want to know too. It's amazing how fast time is flying, and all the things we need to do to get ready!
Alb I wanted to say I'm on the same page as you with the bedding. I love seeing the pics everyone posts but we won't be getting a set, partly for $ reasons and partly because we're kind of plain people anyway. I would like to get sheets and one of those skirt things that goes around the bottom but that might be it. I too don't want to get a regular bumper, but I might get a breathable type one like you mentioned, we'll see. I might wait until after he gets here to decide for sure.
Also Amy congrats on the house sale and good luck with the move! And Mrs. Barkeley hope you are hanging in there with the bed rest!

Well, I am up at 5 am again...gotta love pregnancy induced insomnia!
DH and I attended a class last night at the local store where we will be starting our registry. It was great that we went together and I think that it helped to have people who have been in the baby business for over 50 years telling us about the products we may want for our baby. DH especially is a tough sell and hearing it from someone other than me was really great. We think we have decided on our crib. The Mia Crib by Pali in a white finish:
http://www.paliitaly.com/admin/downloadfile.php?type=ProdBig&id=95&lang=USA
Not my favorite picture of it, but I love it in person and it is more reasonable than I thought it would be. As for changing table or dresser we are still deciding if we want to go with a separate area for changing (my personal choice) or a dresser with a changing pad and area on top for diapering. If we do a changing table it would be this one from Pali in white:
http://www.paliitaly.com/admin/downloadfile.php?type=ProdBig&id=62&lang=USA
I really like the idea of a dedicated space for changing and this table has two great drawers plus room for diapers and wipes on the shelves. I guess it is whatever ends up being the best choice and best economical decision for us.
We also got a chance to look at the new stroller I am obsessed with, the Peg Perego A3. It is a bit bulkier than some of the smaller strollers, but most of the time it will just be for taking walks to the park and to the local shops, not as much in and out of the car. I LOVE that it can be "transformed" into a little carriage for a newborn. There is a part of the seat that pulls down and zips into the footrest to create a little nook for the baby (it is rear facing). So cozy and darling! I also love the huge storage basket and sunshade. Not sure it is THE one, but so far my top choice. I can't find any good pics of it...
QOTD I know it was the question yesterday, but I thought I would weigh in on the when to stop work issue. I am in a similar situation as Sebski, I work about an hour train ride away from my house and doctor and I am the most concerned about my labor beginning while I am at work and a LONG train ride away from home...or worse, being on the train itself! I have unofficially decided that I will work until November 10th. We have Veterans Day off at school (which is a Friday) and my leave would probably begin the following Monday. It seems early, since BF is not officially due until December 7th, but I am also going to assume that the u/s tech could be right and that we could have a Thanksgiving Baby. A couple weeks of being at home could either be torture or a great time to really prepare the house and myself for the arrival of our little one.
Shower I feel really lucky because I had a few people approach me or my mom about throwing a shower for me. The way it worked out best was to do one October 8th for all of my younger friends (hosted by my best friend)and one on November 5th for my mom's "lady" friends (a nice way of saying older women). That shower will be hosted by four of my moms friends. I feel really lucky to have so many people excited about this baby that they wanted to do this for us. It should be great!
Hawaii Great belly shot! I love the color of your top...it is great with your coloring!
Amy Congrats on your new house! Also, how wonderful that your daughter is 1. What an exciting time! 1st birthday parties are so much fun...

Haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading along.
Things are pretty normal for me. I feel like I am going to jinx myself by saying that so far pregnancy hasn't been as bad as I thought it might. Then again, I still have three more months.
abbytfox -- I like your crib choice. We went with a Pali too. I think the cribs looks very refined and sturdy.
bedding -- I haven't looked into it at all. My mother has said fromthe start that she was going to make the bumpers, dust ruffle and quilt. Thank goodness, because I don't think I coiuld spend that much money on bedding! I never would have guessed it could be so expensive.
peeing -- Glad to say this hasn't been an issue for me...yet. I will be on the look out though. I never realized that it could be an issue pre-baby. I learn so much on these boards.
Working -- I hadn't really thought much about this, but you girls are making me wonder. I have an hour commute by car, no traffic, each way. So I spend 2+ hours on the road every day. I only get 12 weeks off, and I really wanted to spend those after the baby comes. I am hoping that things go as smoothly as they have so far, and I can work up to my due date (11/21) or as close to that as possible. I also have the option to work from home a couple days a week, which I can see myself doing. My mom keeps saying that I need to stop work at the beginnin of November. I asked her is she was going to pay me for time away from work! We need the money, so I need to keep working as long as I can.
Shower -- I think I have the earliest shower out of us all...8/27. Again, my mother. She is hosting the shower, and she decided that this was the best date for her to do it. I will just be into the 3rd trimester. It seems real early to me, but what am I to do? We registered a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed today that things have been purchased!!! Now, if we could just get the nursery cleaned out and painted we will have a place to put all the baby's stuff from the shower.

Hi all, we are back from our vacation in Nantucket, which was beautiful but so hot. I had been lucky before then that I did not have horrible ankle swelling, but it was so much walking there my poor ankles were all poofy.
We had our doctors appt w. our new doctor, who was excellent. The office was beautiful, everything there is brand new since they just moved there. This doctor actually had us come in his office and talked to us (unlike my last one, who wanted to have every conversation as she was standing by the door w. her hand on the knob  ). I am so glad we made the decision to switch practices, I feel much better. The appointment was good, we heard the babe's heartbeat (which I LOVE to hear) and he measured my belly as right on target (also good, since I have been thinking I am huge after seeing some of your tiny bellies lol). I have to do the 1 hour GT before my next appointment on 9/10.
Bedding- OK, I really am the worst slacker mommy-to-be ever. We STILL have not registered, picked out furniture, or done any decorating stuff. I keep thinking 11/26 seems so long away, and DH is doing his "we have plenty of time" speech like he did before our wedding lol. We are going to register on Sunday though, hopefully we will pick out the bedding so we can get that done too. We are going w. a light sage color paint, and thats about as far as we have gotten :p
Classes- We are going to do the all day class, since DH works late hours so we cannot do the night ones. I think we are going on Oct 15th, I have to call & book it. Anyone take infant/toddler CPR? We are planning to take that one too.
Peeing- Please, I am the queen of the preggo pantiliner wearers :D I dont know what it is, but I am all over the kegels so that I dont have any embarassing leakage :)
Working- I work w. DH, so thankfully my schedule is flexible. We are in CT and I do a 45 min trip in the car one way, two days by myself. I am planning on working until the beginning of October at that location, then I will move to our other office which is right near the house. I will be there probably through the beginning of November.

Had my appt. on Tuesday and had my glucose test done. I found out yesterday that I passed which is a big relief. I also was measured and I measured 25 which I guess you are supposed to measure for your weeks so I was happy with that. My doc also checked my cervix after I told her about my spell with the BH's over vacation and it was long and closed so that was good as well. My next apt. is on Aug 30th for my 28 wk ultrasound(the last time I will see my peanut before her arrival)!!
Peeing- I am happy to say I havent had this problem but I am a faithful user of pantiliner b/c of the lovely discharge that I have. It seems to just get heavier and heavier. yuck....so if i end up with the peeing thing as well it would not be good.
I need to do a belly shot and I will post it when I am done.
Mrs. Barkley- thinking of you and your family. Hope your peanut stays put for a while.
have a good day everyone:)

Shirsty, I was looking at the Target website because of the breathable bumper thing (I asked my mom to order it and send it to me), and then I started looking through the rest of their baby stuff, just for fun and to depress myself about how much cheaper you can get baby stuff in the US than in Greece. Anyway, they sell a lot of those little dust ruffles that go around the bottom of the crib, they seem to have lots and lots of color/design options that are sold separately and for not too much money. I think I might ask my mom to get us one of those, also. It does make the bed look cuter (and we're having a girl, so one more little feminine touch would be welcome), especially for those of us who are forgoing all the beautiful bedding sets.
Gliders/chairs--I'm thinking now of giving up the glider quest and getting a Poang chair from Ikea for BF in the nursery. I really, REALLY wanted the Dutailier with the standard wood frame look, but that would cost me more than E700 here (before shipping costs, probably from the UK, which wouldn't be cheap) and I just can't see spending double the US$ price. It makes me kind of sad to give up on the glider, but I'm happy at least to have a livable alternative. Another mom on these boards totally recommended the Poang chair, and it's just sooo much cheaper. So, one problem solved. Not the ideal solution I would've liked, but I'm glad to cross something off the list, you know?
Tomorrow we're leaving for 10 days in Crete. DH's family has a little house in a little town there, and I can'twaitcan'twaitcan'twait. Some of our friends are going to join us there after a few days, and they are quickly becoming my favorites of our friends here (DH had a great group of friends here that have just taken me in as one of their own, which certainly made moving to a foreign country much less lonely). Crete is beautiful and so relaxing, and we'll swim every day in the bluegreen water...well, tomorrow won't be fun because we have to spend all day on the boat to get there, but that's a price I'm happy to pay, I guess. I feel better already just imagining how good it will feel to swim every day. Aaaaaaaaah.

Nice Belly shots everyone!!
things here are going well... we had our painter/general contractor come over yesterday and look at our nursery... im so excited.. we have to go pick out the paint color... i want it to be the most subtle blush pink color i can find... but i want it to be warm too.. im sure ill be drowning in paint chips...
we are going to have some shelves built into a nook the room has (key because we have very little storage.. and have a new ceiling fan installed because the one thats there is UGLY... hopefully it will be done by the first week of october...
Im a few days late on this but I'll give my answer to the working question. I have a very flexible situation so i am planning on working until i feel i cant any more... sometime in october i would guess.. but im going to gradually cut my hours back... (i have already started and its been great!)
tomorrow morning i have my 28 week appt... and after that i think the m/w said that ill start my every two weeks appts... i hope thats true! im all excited!

Hi everyone!
I had my fetal echocardiogram today. I think I mentioned it before but I had it done because my baby only has a 2 vessel umbilical cord. 3 vessels is normal. And 2 vessels can sometime mean other problems with the heart and kidneys. My SIL had a hole in her heart that she had surgery on 2 years ago, so thats why they recommended the echo even though the regular ultrasound showed everything was OK.
So the ECHO today went well. The doc said everything looked great and based on what he saw today we don't have to go back for antoehr appointment. Thank god!
My next regular OB appointment is on Tuesday (our 2-yr anniversary), but I dont think it will be very exciting or anything. Probably just a weight check and measuring the belly and all that fun stuff. Speaking of which I have never had to pee in a cup at my doctor's office. Do the rest of you do that every appointment?
Another question about the glucose test - I took it and passed at 24 weeks. My doctor gave me the glucose drink to take hom with me when I was 20 weeks. It seems like alot of you have to go to the doctors, drink the drink, then wait an hour to get tested. That must stink! I wonder why more offices dont just give you the drink to take home with you? Hmmmm...
Nothing else to report! Hope everyone is doing well.
Alanna

Hi Kristen so glad to hear about your good report today! What a relief!
to answer your questions:
I do pee in a cup at every appointment... always exciting to have to "perform" on demand.
And for my 1 hour glucose test i took the drink home... but for the 3 hour i had to do it all at a hospital... it bit because i had to wait the hour before i could even start AND they didnt refrigerate the drink...

Tulip You are so sweet! Thanks for making me smile...I inherited my hands and nails from my grandmother. My mom has exactly the same hands, too! I love that they are one trait that really links me to past generations...also, I know that because my nails grow like crazy I'll never have to pay for artificial nails, so that's a plus! Thanks for your compliment!

I have a strange question to ask. Does anyone else's stomach (uterus) feel really hard? It just seems that mine is really hard. I mean obviously when i am laying down it isnt as hard but when i stand and towards the end of the day I feel as though I have a boulder in my stomach. I really dont know what is normal and if it is supposed to feel that hard. I have tried to push in and feel parts of the baby but all I feel is a tough uterus? I know that I am bigger than most woman at six months but I just wondered if this was normal. I cant tell if my skin is so tight that it makes everything feel hard or not. Just curious to see what everyone else feels? I mean I do feel the baby move everyday but am I supposed to feel parts yet?

08-11-2005, 05:45 PM
Kristen congrats on the good echo for the baby! That's gotta be a relief. I do pee in a cup at every appointment too, don't they need to do that to check for protein in your urine?
First time mom my stomach is really hard when I'm standing too, other times it seems pretty soft when I'm sitting in certain positions. I too can't distinguish between the baby's different parts at all yet.
I have my appt. next Tuesday, I'm already impatient to get in there and hear the baby's heartbeat again. This will be my 28 week appt. like Lana, I hope we start going every 2 weeks too!
question: does anyone else feel really sore and stiff when they get up in the morning? It is the strangest thing but that's when I feel the worst. After I am up and moving for a few minutes then I feel fine. I would think that's when I would feel the best, after resting all night, but it totally doesn't work that way for me. I'm starting to feel like an old lady!

abby, I got the same thing from my mom. Really strong nails that everyone thinks are fake 'cause they grow like weeds.
first-time mom, my belly has been getting harder and harder every week.
Appts., I'm going every 3 weeks right now but I think after next week it'll be every 2 weeks.
GTT, I found out I failed my 1 hour GTT. Now I have to go for a 2 hour one. :( I'm so upset by it and Dan thinks it's b/c of the bloodwork. He has no idea what it means if I have GD.

I don't know why I have never had to PIAC at my OB appointments. I did have a urine analysis done at around 9 weeks when I had my regular bloodwork done at the hospital, but my OBs office has never asked me to PIAC. I'm going to ask why at my appointment on Tuesday. Maybe they don't start doing it until 30 weeks or so?
First time Mom - My tummy is harder as the day goes on I think. Its softer when I sit down or lay down, but definitely harder when I am walking around and standing. I can't feel any baby parts. I dont know how doctors tell which end is the baby's head without an ultrasound?

Dr's office visits I have to bring my First morning urine every time I go. They give me a sample cup each time to bring home. Then they test my urine for UTI's etc each time I go. They check my BP, weight and measure each time too, along w/hearing the heartbeat.
Mrs Barkely COngrats on your GIRL!
Abby Great belly shots! and yes, you have gorgeous hands! you could be a hand model!!
hard tummy mine is getting harder each day too.
First Time Mom Cute belly shots! you don't look 9 months!
aches and pains nothing too bad to report. I've always had a bad back, so I've been really careful about doing my exercises and stretching so it doesn't get worse now that I'm preg.
Kristen So glad the echo went well. I don't get to take home my glkucose test. I have to go there and drink it, then wait. I hope they refrigerate it....b/c drinking it warm will certainly make me gag :(
Tulip sorry about your 1 hour GTT..I'm sure you'll pass the next time. Try and think positively.
This weekend we're going to try and pick out a glider. We've sat in so many already that we just need to make a decision. It's supposed to be hot and humid here the whole weekend, so I see alot of a/c in my future!

I love free stuff!!! im going to have such fun going through it all...

Goodness, I am very behind!!
albuquerque - Lucky girl getting to sleep in!! I am sorry you will be losing your job. I hope you are able to find something you enjoy!
sem426 - Thanks for the compliment on my belly shot!! Have fun picking out a glider!! I loooove mine!!
3rd trimester - Seems like the majority of you say it starts at 27 weeks. That would be Monday for me!!! How exciting!!
showers - I know I am having at least 1 shower. That will be given by my mom and I have requested that it be in September. It is going to be a suprise and I hate that. I hate suprises. I am also assuming that I will have a shower in Eric's hometown as it is 2 hours away. I haven't heard anything about that and am not sure how they will be able to make that a suprise. ETA - my mom just called. She needs me to give her my Toys R Us registry cards and my two best friend's addresses!!!
Alanna - I am sure you will have a shower. Someone is probably planning a suprise for you and you will have it when you least expect it. Are any of these weekend plans ones you made with a friend perhaps...
QOTD - I am planning right now to work up until I go into labor. However, my work has been really bad and I have been working 45 hours at least per week. This isn't going to fly much longer because I am extremely exhausted. I may ask my doc to prescribe me to only work 35 hours per week starting in September or October. But I do plan on staying right at work. They already have a plan on who is driving me to the hospital should my water break at work! I don't want to take any time before because my maternity policy at work is awful. I am taking off 8 weeks and at least 2 of those will be unpaid. Blah.
Hawaii2SJ - You look great!!! Allll baby!!
abbytfox - You definitely are getting bigger!! You look great!!
mrs barkley - Congrats on your girl!! How very exciting! I think we are tied in genders again!!
first-time mom - I thought you were going to ask your doctor about that!!!!! Goodness girl, you are killing me!!! Mine is very hard, too. And my skin always feels like it is stretching. So much so that sometimes I can't even stand up straight. I hope it is normal because I got it bad!! Any holy crap you are huge!! But you look great. Are you sure there is only one baby in there???? Your doc doesn't seem concerned with how big your belly is, right? If not, I wouldn't worry at all. Especially since you said you are measuring right on a 25 weeks. I am soooo small compared to you. How much weight have you gained so far?
tulip - I am very sorry you failed your 1 hour GTT. I hope the 2 hour one goes better!

First time mom, dont worry I am close to your size belly (and a little behind you at 24w 6d). At my last doctors appointment on Wednesday the doc measured my belly as right on schedule. I was worried as so many of the belly pics on here are so tiny!! But most of the PG women I see in "real life" seem to be around my size, so I guess I am doing OK. My doc says all women carry differently, so just go w. what your doc says.
Hard belly/morning soreness- I have both of those lol. When I stand up, my belly is definitely firm, not soft. From the babe's kicks, I am starting to guess feet which give pretty hard kicks to other parts, but cannot tell by feeling. I am still amazed at how the doc can put his hands on my belly, and know in 20 seconds exactly where the baby is, what parts he feels etc. I feel the achiness in my legs mostly in the morning when I first get up, or in my hips. I think its partly b/c I am not a side sleeper by nature, and even w. my pg pillow I am a little sore.
Mrs Barkley congrats on your girl, and hope you both are feeling well :)
Gotta run as its major thunderstorms here and my poor dogs are having a panic attack  :)

Wow this weekend went quickly, hard to believe it's Sunday night already. Lindzee love your nursery! What kind of crib do you have? You have inspired me to get my butt in gear and motivate on the nusery myself. Actually this Wednesday is our 4th anniversay and we're both taking the day off to go get the crib, finish the bit of painting we have left to do, and do general fun baby stuff. I can't think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary!
I found out today that my DH's family is throwing a shower for me on September 24, very excited about that. I guess this means I should get our registry going! We went over our budget yet again today for these last couple months before the baby comes and we're good, but I'm hopeful that we will get some key things at the shower, like the car seat, which will be a big help.
I have my 28 week appt. on Tuesday and will be doing the 1 hr GTT, this sounds bad but I had some 'extra' ice cream this weekend in case I don't pass and have to deny myself for the next 11 weeks! I didn't go too nuts though.
Everybody have a good week!

Hi ladies!
So much to respond too and I have to hit the hay. But, let's see what I can get too -
Peeing in cups I do that and get weighed at every visit. I had an emergency visit at 20w and then a follow-up 2 days later and STILL had to PITC and weigh-in at the 2nd appt even though I had just done it 2 days prior. I don't mind the PITC, but I can do w/out the weigh-in! ;)
Belly hardness I notice that at certain points in the day my belly gets a very bloated/hard feeling and then it passes. I think it might be BH contrax since that's what my doc said I might notice.
(First-Time-Mom - adorable belly!!! :) )
Groin pain gggggggood lord YES! Today it was the worse ever so far. I think I really over-did it though. We had about 15 people over for a BBQ and I was up early cleaning the house and setting up, then serving. So, I guess gravity pulled him down and boy is my crotch feeling it now!!! :o Just achy - I think he's pressing on it more since I was up and on the go literally all day. Hence why I need to hit the hay. I'm sporting cankles in full effect right now. I don't know why it's so hard for me to accept that I just cannot physically do it all like pre-preggo days. I have to definitely slow down.
mrs barkley congrats on your little girl!
Lindzee love the nursery - great bedding choice!!!
Alb you lucky duck - enjoy your vacay and I'm sooo jealous!!!
amyhky welcome! :)
Tulip sorry about the 1 hour - good luck with the next test. Mine is next Monday and I have a feeling I'll be on the fail side. No real reason, just gut and my luck. Sending you passing vibes for the next test!

shirsty - Thanks! Our crib is just a wooden portable crib. I got it at Babies R Us. Don't get too inspired by me. It was easy to set up my nursery, all I had to do was put the crib together and put the bedding in it. No painting or organizing necessary. Thats what you get when you have a 1 bedroom apartment! Yay for knowing when your baby shower is. How exciting!! Good luck at your GTT! I have mine a week from today!
Sebski - Thanks!

I can barely walk today. My sciatica nerve is hurting me sooo bad. It started acting up Friday night and has progressively got worse. I tear up everytime I have to sit or stand. This is not good. I tried the heating pad yesterday but it didn't help at all. I didn't sleep last night partly due to the pain, so today is going to be a very long and annoying day I think. I wish I could just stay home...

asianbear07 -- I have just started to feel some pain in that area. It is like I pulled a groin muscle or something. It is not unbearable, unless I try to standup to quickly from a laying or sitting position. Ouch, where did this come from? I hope you get some relief from the Doctor.
Sebski -- Ok - sorry to anyone I missed, but my son is dancing on my crotch and I have to put my cankles up. Have a good one ladies! Too funny. I hope he stopped his dance-a-thon and you are feeling better

Hi ladies!
I know I am not around much anymore. My son keeps me busy - and when I get a moment's rest DS#2 keeps me up. LOL
I had my 28 week appt today. Did my glucose test. I get those results in 24-48 hours. I am measuring 25 weeks.. so I am about 3 weeks behind. Same thing happened with DS#1. So we are keping an eye on DS#2's size. he is a large baby and my uterus is small. So it may restrict his growth (like it did with DS#1).
hr 155
BP 114/64
weight gain - too much. I am now up a total of 18 lbs.
Next appt is in three weeks (I am going every two weeks now).

Lindzee you may not be doing a major remodel but you still are motivated and are ready to go with the crib, better than me! Sorry to hear about the sciatica. I have had it off and on but never for a couple days like you have. If you are comfortable on your back, we do a couple positions in my yoga class that are helpful. You lie on your back with one leg extended, foot flat on a wall. The other leg you wrap a belt around your foot, keep holding onto the belt, and extend that leg perpindicular to your body, so your legs are at a 90 degree angle. So it's like you're holding onto reins, around your foot. Maybe I'm over describing this. You can also lower your belt leg (still extended) to the side/floor. This move really helps me with the sciatica, but you should be comfortable on your back for a few minutes. Maybe try it with your DH assisting, he could hold your leg instead of using a belt.
I have email access to a prenatal nurse through my health insurance and asked her today what is a 'normal' amount of movement to feel at this point (28-29 weeks). She said 10 movements per day, which totally made me feel better. I was worrying because the baby was quite active last week, but for the past 4-5 days I haven't been feeling nearly as much. But I am feeling 10 movements per day for sure. I know every baby is different but it helped me to have a 'number', thought some of you might like to know that too. I'm curious if anyone has heard something different?

So, the doctor said what I am feeling is round ligament pain, and the only way to keep the pain away is to stay off my feet. Which would mean quitting my job. So, I guess I am just going to have to suck it up. 90 days to go! I (knock on wood) haven't had much sciatica pain with this one, but I sure did with my son. You have my sympathy, truly. It is horrible!

amyhky welcome!
We had a very productive weekend! We bought a glider. We saw one at BRU that we liked, but I found it online for over $100 less! So, we were excited about that! It's a Dutailier and it reclines and locks too which is what we wanted. The only negative was that it will take 10-12 weeks to get here. So hopefully it will arrive right before the baby.
We also bought a runner for our stairs in the house. Right now they are hardwood and we figured with the baby it might be too slippery/dangerous so we decided to get a runner for the stairs.
Yesterday, I had the day off and we were going to check out day care centers, but that didn't end up happening, so that is now on next week's agenda. I'm on all of the waiting lists already, but we haven't done our "drop by visits" yet to meet the teachers, see all the facilities etc. We also went to Lowe's yesterday and I came back with tons of paint chips to decide which color we will paint the nursery. I'm hoping to have that all done within the next month.

We also had a productive weekend...it felt so good to get so much done, after doing nothing for so long. I start back to work on Monday, so it was really important to me to have most of the main decisions made before that happens. We started a registry at Lullaby Lane and picked out all the nursery furniture and yesterday my mom and I went to pay for the crib. We are hoping that DH's parents and other assorted relatives will help out with the rest of the furniture. Even though it is on the registry we have already paid a deposit and know that if no one else can help us, we will cover the cost. We registered for a 5 drawer dresser (the tall kind), the changing table that matches the crib and a glider that we love and spent way too much money on. Everything will be white, including the frame of the glider, and it was all in stock so it is just waiting for us in the warehouse. The glider cover is a dark beige and needed to be ordered. It should arrive in 10-12 weeks. It is SO comfortable! We skipped the ottoman, though, and just got a nursing stool.

We also went to Home Depot and chose what we think will be the color for the room...it is called celery sprig and it is by Behr. It is a lighter version of the green in the bedding. The last major thing we have to do is order the bedding which I am doing today. After 2 weeks, I will finally talk to the people from Javis Davis to design the crib bedding and place the order. YAY! The woman is actually calling today in about 30 minutes.
Pains I have had a pain in my groin for about 2 weeks. It almost feels like I pulled an inner thigh muscle, but only hurts sometimes. I thought I had moved the wrong way while walking or climbing the stairs to our house...I never really thought that it was pregnancy related :o...I guess I will be asking my doc about it next appointment. It is not painful enough at this point to stop activities.
lindzee Sorry you are having such terrible back pains! That doesn't sound fun at all. You do have a really cute nursery...I am sure Matthew will love it there. How cozy to be so close to his mama!
shirsty 10 movements a day sounds good to me too! Sometimes I feel like the baby is constantly moving and other days it is more intermitent...but I also feel like BF is definitely moving at least 10 times every day. Thanks for that info... Also, good luck on the GTT. I love your comment about indulging in a little extra ice cream just in case you can't have any for a while. That is exactly what I will do! So funny how we trick ourselves...
sem Congrats on getting a good deal! How exciting! I think a runner for your wood stairs seems like a great idea. A little more traction for little feet!
Ok...I am off to wait for my call from Javis Davis. Hope everyone has a good day!

Shirsty What insurance do you have? That's AWESOME to be able to email questions! Even though this is my 2nd time around and I have less questions, that would be a wonderful feature.
I passed my GTT, if your doctor doesn't give it to you to take home, I would suggest bringing a cup of ice to pour it on so it's cold, it tastes much better. I'm not sure how many weeks I am now, I don't have one of those tickers and I lost my little wheel. Anyone else due around 11/9 and know how far along we are? :)
My groin hurts often when I stand up after I've been sitting a while but not for too long. I'm just glad I don't have the back pain or numbness in my hands (yet) like I did last time! I've heard a chiropractor can help w/the sciatica problems.

Hi chicklets!
abbytfox love the glider you chose! I decided to not get but you have me rethinking that now! ;) I've had a groin pain similar to what you described... sorta like a pulled muscle. It went away after a couple of days though. Most uncomfortable! Good luck with Javis Davis - hope you get everything designed/ordered!
sem426 congrats on scoring your Dutailier for cheaper! Would you mind posting where you ordered it from? We just covered our staircase with a runner as well - safety reasons. You'll feel much better!
shirsty thanks for posting that about movements - I was wondering about that. Going to the doctor on Monday and it's on my list of ??? to ask. :)
Question regarding doctor visits... I have mine on Monday - should I expect to start going every 2w after that? I didn't think they started that until the very end...
All is well with us... hanging in there, enjoying the kicks and hiccups. :D I'm going to miss having him so close all the time after he's born. :( Can't wait to meet him though!!!
Have a great night ladies!
LSU good luck with your test results!
Lindzee82 hope the sciatica pain has eased up!

Hi all, popping in to say hello. We also got some stuff done this weekend, we opened up the registry at BRU. We got the major stuff (stroller, carseats, swing etc) done, so I feel like we accomplished something :D Did anyone register for the Peg Perego Viaggio infant carseat to go w. the Peg P3 stroller? In the store, it seemed more secure to me than the snugride/metrolite combo, but now I am second guessing and wondering if I should go w. the snugride instead. The Peg Viaggio tested v. well in crash tests, but I read that the height restriction is lower so we may not be able to use it as long as we would the snugride. *sigh* decisions, decisions. Other than that, we are happy w. what we chose lol.
I am going to look at paint samples tomorrow, we are thinking of painting a light sage green color. DH wants to wait to paint until after the babe is born so we can do it gender specific, but I dont think I want to paint in December or have windows open in the house w. a newborn home. So I think we are going gender neutral. I need to pick out some bedding too, but I am not really going to go nuts matching the exact greens to the paint since the nursery bedding will not be in there forever. We also registered for childbirth class and I am going to infant/toddler CPR and breastfeeding. DH works on Saturdays, and he is a doctor certified in CPR anyway, so I think I am on my own for those 2. Hopefully I will not be the only loner :) but its only 2 hours anyway and its worth it to take the classes.
We found out this week that my MIL will be throwing us a shower in Syracuse where she lives, and my mom will have one down here in the NYC/CT area. Baby and I are feeling v. blessed :) Of course, my MIL is a PITA and wanted me to go 4 hours away when I am 36 wks preggo...uh, no I dont think so!! So we are looking at the first week of October. I will be 32 weeks, but we drive there so hopefully the trip wont be too bad. Now I have to figure out all the little stuff for the registry so we are all prepared when invites go out :)

Hi guys,
I had my appt. yesterday, everything went well and I passed the GTT with flying colors! So all my extra ice cream was for naught ;) The drink wasn't too bad, it was a little tough towards the end but no big deal. Everything looks good, I will go back in 4 weeks so I have to wait a little longer to start my 2-week appt. schedule. Which means things are going well, so I feel good about it.
For those who asked about movement, I ran the 10-movements-per day past my dr. and nurse. First the nurse said the standard 'lay down for an hour, you should feel 10 movements/hour', that you see in all the books. Then my dr. came in and said '10 movements/day is fine'. Which was a relief to me, 10 movements/hour is a lot! He said he's seen studies that even 3-4 movements/hour when you're laying down and paying attention is fine. He said bottom line if you haven't felt the baby for while, lay down and pay attention. I just know if I was trying to count 10 per hour that would freak me out because I know I don't feel that on a regular basis. When the baby's active I do, but there will be stretches during the day where I don't notice him for hours.
Sebski I am jealous that you're feeling hiccups! I haven't noticed those at all. How fun! Were you sure right away that's what you were feeling?
Amy I have Blue Cross-Blue Shield. It's a nice program, they match you up with a prenatal nurse for your pregnancy who you can call or email when you like, they follow you through delivery. Then after delivery they send you a $50 gift certificate for Target. Nice! :)
It's our day off today, off to buy our crib!

Seb I got the glider from www.babycatalog.com here it is: http://www.babycatalog.com/dutailier/05/8461005.jpg
But, we got it in natural wood, and a different fabric. It was $389, no tax, and free shipping. The one i liked in BRU w/the same features was $459 +tax and $69 shipping. We didn't get the ottoman.
They have a bunch of in stock models that are really great deals, but they only have a few colors and none of them were what we were looking for. They were rec'd by Baby Bargains as a place to get good deals on gliders.
I have my next dr appt on 8/27 and I think after that I start the every 2 week appts.
I took some 27 week belly shots yesterday and once I get the uploaded I'll post the pix.
