We just watched Princess Bride, *sigh* and it made me wonder what other movies are all-time favorites. I could watch that movie every month!
And while it wasn't my favorite the first time I saw it, every time I see Shawshank Redemption on cable I STILL stop and watch it.
Among more recent movies, I really like Disney's Mulan (probably because I identify with her waaaay too much) and The Long Road Home (a love story starring Zhang ZiYi, the woman from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
What about you?
When Harry Met Sally, Miss Congeniality, and Mona Lisa Smile (I went to Mount Holyoke so I love the women's college aspect of the movie)

there's a lot more but I'm tired and can't think of 'em LOL

Oh man, I forgot about Star Wars, LOTR, When Harry Met Sally and Office Space--those are CLASSIC. :)
When we celebrated our first anniversary at a B&B, we had a VCR in the room and they offered a full library of classic movies--we watched the Star Wars trilogy, When Harry Met Sally, and a ton of other films.
DH and I are planning to watch the entire LOTR trilogy later today...a nice lazy way to end the weekend!

As soon as I saw this thread I thought of Office Space. We watched Office Space at the hospital while I was in labor and I will always associate that part where the friend is saying "a nan and and nother jan, how hard is that?" Of course, that is not really the right way to say his name, so it must be too hard for me. :D

I'm not a big Disney freak or anything, but I could watch "The Lion King" and "Fantasia" over and over again. They just bring up warm fuzzy childhood memories.
Other favorites:
--"Singles" (I love how it's such a 90's movie)
--"Office Space" (this strikes so close to home sometimes)
--Coen Brothers movies -- "The Man Who Wasn't There," "The Big Lebowski," "O! Brother Where Art Thou," "Fargo," etc. (I love their work, just love it)
--"Happy Gilmore" and "Billy Madison" (neverending laughs)
--"The Wedding Singer" (such a cute story!)
--"The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (because who doesn't love drag queens?)

My all time favorite movie since I was a kid is The Wizard of Oz. When I was a kid, we didn't have a VCR and everytime we went to my aunt's I watched that movie...until they got tired of watching it and told me it was broken. That's traumatized me for life, but I still love the movie. :)

Heehee we did the same thing to my nephew when he was about 3.
I was noticing a lot of the movies are from when we were kids. Must be a comfort thing?

My favorite movie of all time is Steel Magnolias. I can watch it again and again. It was even on TV last night, but I only watched a few minutes because DH said he couldn't stand to watch it again! lol A few months ago I saw the play on Broadway while in NYC. I was so excited for it, but I found myself getting frustrated because they changed some of the lines. They would say a line and I'd be thinking to myself, no that's not the way it goes! :p

Actually, smiles, I hadn't seen the movie when I originally chose this screen name. I have see it since, and enjoyed it. DH rolls his eyes whenever this movie is mentioned because apparently it was one of the movies that SIL would watch over and over and over again.

I'll second A&E's "Pride and Prejudice" miniseries. I think I watch the entire thing at LEAST once a month :) I love it. (have you heard that they're remaking it? With Keira Knightly as Elizabeth and some ugly guy as mr darcy...saw a preview for it the other day...made my skin crawl, you can't remake that!!!)
anyways
ditto on the Anne of Green Gables movies too. There are now three, did you know? they did another one a couple years ago "the continuing story" all the same actors and stuff, I have that one too :) i love all three of them and am currently watching #2. :)
also:
Wimbledon (I LOVE this movie...I think mostly because my honey looks uncannily like a younger version of Paul Bettany..but I love it..)
Shakespeare in Love-fave movie
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Runaway Bride
Princess Diaries :)
Gone with the Wind
Sweet Home Alabama
Emma
Little Women
The wedding planner. I became obsessed with it while I was planning my wedding.
