I thought it would be fun to see if anyone has come across any cool Summer makeup ideas or new products. Or let's share how we change our Winter look to Spring/Summer look.

Myself, I usually put away the Bare Minerals and switch to tinted moisturizers. Laura Mercier has come out with a new oil free tinted moisturizer and it is just as fabulous as her regular TM. I also use more cream or gel blushes in the warmer seasons. For my eyes, I usually start playing with pinks & peaches and start to faze out the browns. For my lips, I usually just use liner and gloss or just tinted gloss with a light lipstain.

I love Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer. It's really light but still offers great coverage.

I love tinted moisturizer, but my skin is not great. (Smooth, but some rosacea redness) Any tips or hints on what would be good for summer, even out the tone and also be appropriate for work?

Laura Mercier has come out with a new oil free tinted moisturizer and it is just as fabulous as her regular TM. I'm so glad you posted about this. Thanks. I love my LM foundation, but need to use the moisturizing version because I'm too dry for the regular--so it's too heavy for summer. But I really should be using an oil free product, so this may be just what I need for summer.

What's your reason for not using your Bare Minerals in summer?

I have to second Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. I got some last year for summer and loved it.

My rosacea isn't bad anymore, but I still need coverage for work/going out and this product worked for me...provides sheer coverage that blends beautifully. I recommend going to a Laura Mercier counter and have them apply it for you and then see how you like it.

I also love Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick in Apricot for summer. I have the Bronze too for when I'm at the beach.

I have a few questions about summer makeup / skin care. I hope that somebody can help me out with this:

- Is it true that the SPF factor that counts is the one of the product you apply *first* on your face?? A cosmetics salesgirl told me that. If it is true, I guess it doesn't make sense to apply my face moisturizer with SPF 15 and then sunscreen with SPF 30, right?

- If the above is not true, does it make any sense to apply sunscreen with SPF 30 and then tinted moisturizer or makeup with SPF 10??

- I always try to protect my face from the summer sun so I want to wear SPF 30 on my face but I always end up glowing like a lighting bug. :o Even with products that claim "no shine, no grease" I get this problem. Is this shine really inevitable because of reflecting particles in the sunscreen?? Is there any product with SPF 30 that won't make me look as if I stuck my face in the hot oven??

Dollface, why do you stop using Bare Minerals when the weather gets warmer? Just wondering b/c I don't use make up everyday but when I do, I use the BM line.

Thanks!

Really, applying first or last makes no difference. What makes a difference is giving products a sufficent amount of time to absorb before layering another product. Sometimes I do sunscreen first and then a day cream, sometimes the other way around. Just give each product at least 5 minutes to absorb. Regardless of whether or not your makeup contains sunscreen - you should always use a sunscreen that offers UVA & UVB protection - which, off the top of my head I can't think of a makeup that does offer both. As far as SPF's making you look like a lightening bug - that measn it's offering protection! You can try a sunscreen with Mexoryl (I like Althelios available online) as opposed to traditional sunblocks that have higher percentages of titanium dioxide & zinc oxide. Another one I like is Z Silc which goes on nice and smooth - like silk! It has Methoxycinnamate rather then titanium dioxide.

I guess because it's very opaque and matte on me. In the summer I prefer I more dewy look :)

Awesome thread, dollface!

I have yet to try a lip stain - which do you ladies recommend? I always hear about Benetint.

Also, pinks and peaches don't even show up on my eyelids, what do you suggest for someone with tan skin and brown eyes? I don't like anything pastel-y, though.

Thanks!

I have wanted to try one of the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks for a long time! Which do you guys prefer for summer?

I usually switch to lighter lipstick -- I've been wearing mostly the Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Coffee and Raisin, and I just bought Nutmeg for the summer. I also tend to add a little more shimmer for eyeshadows -- instead of a brown, I'll go with a pale gold or mint green with a little shimmer.

I like to add a bronzer (I'm coveting Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder right now!) and more shimmery eyeshadows. Since I'm not so dead pale white anymore, I feel like I can wear darker lipsticks without looking too weird and stark!

princesse- I want the Bronze shimmer brick!

Lipstain - I really like Vincent Longo lipstains right now. For tan skin, I would go with pretty shimmers for your eyes - MAC Melon pigment would look awesome or MAC Pink Bronze Pigment. Have you tried using a primer or base on your lids before appkying color? For tan skin I really like MAC Sublime Nature paint.

Dollface, can we all come over so you can do our makeup????????

Brandy, I'm driving down and we are going shopping. And drinking. Not necessarily in that order.

I have the exact same problem and what I usually do is mix 1 part tinted moisturizer with 1 part foundation. It gives a lighter feel than full foundation but more coverage than just tinted moisturizer.

dollface- dumb question for you. I love the Nars eyeshadow duo you posted on the first page, but how would you apply it? I love the colors but have no idea which color goes where.

Giving this a bump for a question....
I need a good summer lipstick, preferably a drugstore brand, but I might be persuaded otherwise. :)

I'm super pale, and my skin has yellow undertones.

Ideas?
TIA!

Advice for summer make-up for pale, pale pale skin (alabaster) with blue undertones. Bronzer looks dumb on me, and corals/peaches look horrid. How can I get a light, summery look without looking dead?

I'm not Dollface but...

Jesvet I switched to similar eyeshades to what dollface posted (although slightly richer) and I use the pinkish tone as an allover/highlighter and the peach in the creases/lower browbone. It give kind of a tannish glow. I also use an ivory highlight right under my eyebrow and in the inner corner of my eye.

FallingforPhil I don't know a specific brand but a sheer pinkish bronze might look really nice on you. I'm thinking something like the CoverGirl Lipslicks

ysolde Maybe instead of actual bronzer you could use a face powder that's a shade or two darker than your actual skin tone? Also, a lot of times I'll use a bronzer that I've cut with my regular face powder so the shade is much more subtle. If you're not already familiar with it, you might want to check out the Bare Minerals line. They have some really nice sheer powders that might do the trick.

................

For anyone who doesn't like to wear a lot of make-up in the summer but has rosacea (or rosacea like skin) I've been using the Clinique CX Redness Relief cream and it's def. toned down my skin. It's pricey ($70) but it's working!
