View Full Version : Converting Cooking Temps

Making Easter dinner tonight I ran into an issue I always seem to run into: ham was to be cooked at 325 for 1 hour, cheesy potatoes had to cook for 1 hour at 350 and the rolls had to cook for 12 minutes at 375 - I only have 1 oven!
Anyone have a website that converts cooking temps and times for you if you have different needs? Anyone have a good rule of thumb like for every 5 degrees cut cooking time down by a minute, etc.
Thanks!

Um. :) Heh. I'm really very lackadaisical about temps like this. It drives DH crazy that unless I'm baking and really need precise temps, I sort of ballpark the oven temp for regular cooking.
For example, with what you described above,
I'd have set it at 325ish, put the potatoes in first for about 15 mins, then added the ham, cooked for the 1 hour the ham required, checked both to see if they were done. Taken everything out, cranked up the oven to 375, put in the biscuits while the ham was resting and being carved.

yeah, I'm pretty lax about stuff like that as well. I think I would have done it very similar to how karen described it. Emilie, how did it turn out?

It turned out fine - I just layered the cooking and kept cranking the temp up with a little bit of time left on each dish. All was good - even better the second day! :)
