View Full Version : Do you wear white pants?

Today I realized that I've never owned a pair of white pants. I have too many issues with them:
1. I spill everything and would surely stain or ruin them rather quickly.
2. Visible panties/panty lines
3. If you wear a thong, it's still visible. If you're wearing thin pants, you can see your skin showing through!
4. Horrible of having Aunt Flo making an unexpected visit - eek!

Am I the only one who won't wear white pants?

I wear white pants. I love them. Makes all sorts of tops look more pulled together and polished.

I have white gap jeans. They are the only ones I'd dare wear a (nude, seamless) thong with as they are thick enough and the pockets "hide" the thong. My thinner pants (thin cotton, linen, twill) I'll wear a nude, seamless, lowrise bikini bottom, no VPL as they are looser in the butt or loose at the beginning of the thigh.

Shout wipes and bleach pens have gotten out everything I've gotten on them!

I would buy white pants, but I've never found a pair that flatters my figure. I do agree that they can be a very clean, pulled together look.

I bought a really cute pair of white denim capris at White House Black Market this year, and I've already worn them a ton! I agree that they make a cute top look more polished! And these have no issues with VPL since they're denim. Try em out girl! :D

I have several pairs of white or off-white pants. In fact I'm sitting here wearing a pair of white capris as we speak.

I have a pair of winter-weight, cream/white cords that I wore the heck out of this winter. I got them at the Gap and just fell in love with them.

I also have a pair of white, lined, summer-weight wool slacks that I got at Casual Corner a couple of years ago. They're very classically tailored and look great with a dark fuschia jacket I have.

I have one pair of white cotton/khaki-style slacks that I wear sometimes (um, going commando, if that's not TMI).

As for starting my period, I'm pretty regular, so it's not a worry for me. I tend to avoid them during that particular week and usually wear a panty liner if I think it might be an issue.

Yup. I have a pair of white jean capris that I love. Even if I wear black underwear, it doesn't show. And I have a pair of white dress pants with a black pinstripe that I used to wear to work. The pinstripe helped with vpl and they were thick enough that white or nude colored undies could be worn with them. I always try on white pants in the store, but rarely do I buy them as they are usually to sheer for my liking.

ETA - oh, and I don't EVER wear them if af has the slightest chance of showing up.

I could see me wearing some white denim capris. Maybe I should branch out! I saw a lot of white pants at a wedding last night, and a lot at church today, and realized how cute and summery they were.

Wore a pair of white capris yesterday from Old Navy. I wear them with a nude thong and NEVER wear them anywhere near AF time. :p

One of my favorite summer outfits (only if it is breezy- or I'm at the beach with the gulf or ocean breeze) is a pair of white capris and a Lilly Pulitzer tunic. It covers the rear (so undies are not an issue- I still wear a nude thong). I am with Karen- I wouldn't wear them if I was thinking it was time for the old hag. Not to worry this year though (I'm pg;) .)
I love this look so much- I'm thinking of buying a new tunic- this one is on sale at Saks:

Kinda like this look (but I wear my capris a bit looser.)

White pants are my best summer friend. I have 3 pairs right now that I love. One pair of off white editors that can go year round, one pair also from Express that are ankle pants that I adore and are a sunstantial white material, easy to care for, not flimsy so the under-issue is no big whoop, and to boot I got them for $14.99 on sale!!!!! Love love love the white pants. Esp. when you have a little tan on your legs. Mmm mm mm.

I always avoided them due to period accidents, but now that I'm on Seasonale, that wouldn't be an issue anymore, so I'd consider it...but I'm still a clumsy slob. So I'd never wear them anytime I'd be eating, or drinking, or near anyone else who is.

So maybe not.

Start slow....... look for one pair that you like that don't break the bank. I think you will likey! Maybe if you wear with a longer top like the ones above.... you are so elegant in writing I totally cannot believe you are a slob, come on sista!

I have to 2nd the off white Editor pant from Express. They're a very light off-white so you could wear them all year if you wanted and they are very flattering to most figures.

You are my new best friend. :) Don't worry about me buying a pair that breaks the bank as I'm a frugal shopper. However, I am prone to accidents, as evident by my multiple body bruises, constantly broken toes, scars, and dependence on Shout stain remover. The joys of having poor depth perception.

Yes, I have a pair of white jeans that I really like, but I do have to think about where I'm wearing them. I also have a pair of white cotton capris I've had for 3 or 4 years that I've worn maybe twice:cool:. Ah, well, those require ironing and thongs which I've come to hate.

On the subject of Shout pads though, the Tide pen totally blows them away. I have been completely amazed with this thing, and you're not having to carry around a bunch of packets. I sprayed spaghetti sauce on a light pink cotton jacket, and this took out all but the largest spot (and only I can see that as it faded it a lot). And I had a stain on a silk shirt and it worked amazingly on that as well. It doesn't look like it's working at first, but once it completely dries (~10 min, not the 10 sec like the commercial), the stain evaporates with the liquid.

nope, i would see it as a waste of money for me. i would end up staining them somehow, and a stain is completely obvious in white pants. plus, i live in a dirty city and take public transportation, so surely they would just get stained on my commute alone.

i do like the look of them, and i wish i could stop being so practical and just buy a pair or two.

I used to feel like wearing white was too risky. But now I have a pair of winter white jeans from BR that I love, and I bought a white denim mini from ON that I do wear once in a while. I think the fact that they are a sutrdy washable fabric makes me more comfortable knowing that I'll be able to get stains out easier.

I have a few pair that I love. Like PPs have said - they really make an outfit pop. Wal-mart has a great brand (I think Hanes) of sheer no panty line panties. I also like to wear boy cut briefs - little longer in the legs, and again, no VPL!

I love white pants! I have, um, a few pairs. One is an old BR pair that I like for knocking around, two are by a designer called Charlotte Solnick (I think?) that I bought at a boutique called Sude (they have a huge stretchy waistband and manage to be comfy while looking cute), and I recently acquired a super-sexy (and super-tight!) pair of Shoshanna pants that I am hoping to debut this weekend. Did I mention I love white pants? I think it has something to do with the fact that I am bigger on top and slimmer on bottom, so wearing white pants with a black top evens me out. :)

White denim is a good start--more forgiving for the "novice" white-pant wearer. It's more substantial, so your panties won't show through. I live in my white Trina Turk crops.

As for Aunt Flo--I never worry about that. Number one, I always have a good idea of when she's coming...number two, don't you get a bit of a "warning" (i.e. a little spotting) before she comes gushing out?

No warning here. I got off the pill almost 2 years ago (TMI, but hey, I'm among friends) and I'm not regular like I used to be, plus, I don't have any spotting pre-indicators. I'm a gusher.

Not to get into too much detail, but yeah, I'm in dark pants a lot of the time! I have maybe 8 days a month when I'd feel totally comfortable in white pants (a few days here, a few days there). I currently only own black pants, but I'm thinking of pushing the envelope and getting some in brown. ;)

I have several pairs of light pants, from true white to ivory. I used to live in NYC and commuted on the subway or walked, and i managed to keep myself neat and clean.

DD, for your "issues" I'd suggest researching the menstrual cup, if you haven't already. After much homework, including some help here on CC, I decided to switch to that due to similar flow issues. Haven't needed it yet, but soon will be my trial run.

Thanks, but not going that route yet, especially since I have womanly 'issues' that my OBGYN and I are dealing with. My flow issues are the least of my problems.

No white pants for me! First, I'm just certain I would spill something on myself. :p Second, I have a black lab and a black & white cat that sheds BOTH colors of fur, and I could stand still in my living room and walk out with dog hair on my pants. Good times! :)

I do wear Khaki, which realistically bears the same problem, but somehow it seems less risky!

I LOVE white pants in the summer! Denim capris, baggier linen crops and long flowy ones - I am really toying with a white suit too...I have avoided white during a lot of the year - but once the weather warms up I just can't resist white pants (and I'm not a super skinny girl either - but they still look great!).

Bleach pens are my best summer friends! I'm going to have to try out the Tide Pen too though.

Count me in with the white lovers! I even have a white linen pant suit. My first maternity purchase was a pair of cute white capris. DYING to wear them! I too have smaller hips, rear, and thighs, proportionally speaking. So I've never felt selfconscious about it. As for the slob factor, I am notoriously messy. I just make sure not to spend a ton of money on ANYTHING white. And bleach is a godsend.

Shout works best for me. When you get home, spray Shout on the stain. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then soak the item in cold water overnight. When you wake up in the morning, the stain is usually gone.

I am even afraid to wear white shirts for fear of spilling! Also, with my art there is no way I could wear white...or anything even remotely nice! I guess I do sometimes wear white shirts, but even then I am so nervous I'll spill stuff. I did wear white to my wedding though! I suppose that look of wearing a long shirt/tunic might work though for me. I like the way white clothes look, but I think most of my pants, skirts, and even dresses are dark.

I have 1 pair of white capri pants, which I wear occasionally in the summer, but I looooove my white linen skirt. I think that's more fit than fashion, though - I think white can be great. As for stains, that's what bleach is for, so in some ways it's easier to clean.

I bought a white linen skirt last summer and practically lived in it! (I find skirts cooler and more comfortable than pants). I bought a few more for this summer. The bleach pen worked really well! I'd just dot on bleach then toss into the wash.

Nope. I have never worn white pants and don't think I'll ever want to.

I live in a big city and use public transport AND I have a 2.5 year old DD, they would get dirty in no time.

I also see WAY too many people wear them the wrong way (too tight / see-through / with colored undies)

Speaking of linen....how can you girls buy linen anything. I love the way it looks right after it's ironed but the first time you sit or bend down, the whole look is ruined. It looks like the garment was taken out from the bottom of the hamper it's so wrinkled. Does no one else have a problem with this fabric...I guess I should mention that I'm a iron-aholic.

So funny to see this as it was a big topic at my house last weekend. No, I don't own a white pair of pants for many of the reasons already stated. I would be beyond irritated to stain them, most likely on the first day I wear them and waste my money. I do own bleach and shout, but I have never found them to completely get rid of all traces of a stain :(

Oh Renee, I couldn't agree more! I hate it when I find something so cute and it's linen because I simply will not buy it. People at work make fun of me because of my anti-wrinkle obsession, but I can't help it.

On the white pants issue, I don't own any but try to find a pair every season. I can't stand it when you can see the pockets - it's almost as bad as VPL!

Seriously, I will never buy a white bra again. I was complaining about how they show through so much, and the chick at VS made me try on a nude bra despite my obvious skepticism. It's like it vanished. I don't get why white-on-white is glaringly obvious and nude-on-white just disappears, but it really does.

ok, i have a tmi question for all you white pants wearers.

do you have to make sure that your bikini line area is shaved clean before wearing white pants?

*gemini*
04-20-2006, 12:50 PM
Asha, here's the input of a girl with fair skin and dark hair: If there's the slightest chance that the material of the white pants is too thin, you should should should make sure that there's no visible bikini area! :D Sometimes you can't even see the bikini area showing through the pants yourself because the light indoors is different than the light outdoors, so you don't want any surprises when you are outside. This is usually a bigger issue with white bikinis or bathing suits than with pants ( since you wear underwear ) but it's best not to take any chances! :p

i am weird that way too. i usually wear an undershirt or camisole under a lot of blouses bc i am afraid of my bra showing through. perhaps, i should invest in a seemless bra.

I recently got a Victoria's Secret coupon in the mail for free underwear and $10 off a bra. (It had to be a certain kind though, is it called "Body" by Victoria? I can't remember. Whichever one they kept having commercials for recently.)

Anyway, I bought a nice nude colored bra that has good support (important!), is seamless, and not padded (don't need extra cleavage), but also not so completely thin either so that certain things don't show that you don't want to show. The sales person also mentioned that I guess a nude bra is better than a white bra under white clothes. Maybe it depends on the shirt you're wearing too. If it's too thin of a shirt, probably anything would show through. As for the nice crisp white work shirt, there must be one with thick enough fabric to still be modest.

Asha

/hijack/ does that bra come padded? i don't really need extra padding, but i like to be protected in those cold moments. as you can all see, i am sort of crazy when it comes to making sure i am modest. it comes from having a mother who constantly was reminding me that my bra strap was showing or saying my short/skirts were too short, my belly protruded, etc....

Technically it's not padded, though it is thicker than other bras. I do know what you mean though about detesting padded bras! But yeah, definitely important to be protected in the cold!

ETA:
Or if you, like me, work with men and are sometimes around kids! Yes, men really do notice things like nipping. My DH claims there were lots of women with this problem in downtown yesterday who wanted to try out their new summer sundresses too early in the year. Although I didn't exactly want to hear him say that, he did admit he was just being honest and couldn't help but notice. Kinda like how I noticed the same thing on the show Friends! Makes me wonder if that's why some men watch that show!

I would NEVER buy white swimwear! Isn't that sort of a no no? (I mean, not just for the bottom part, but wouldn't people be able to pretty much completely see your boobs...nipples and all?)

Hehe, that would indeed be awful, wouldn't it?! I like white bikinis but they have to have lining ( top and bottom ) so you can't see anything. White skirts should have it too if the material is too thin. Actually, unless swimwear is really dark coloured, you have to pay attention that there's lining because there's always the fear of them being see-through. I have an orange bikini and I made sure that it has lining.

Also, if a bikini is all white, I prefer one that ties around the neck so it doesn't look like underwear. Well .... I prefer the tie-around-the-neck look for most bikinis. :) Oh, and they look best with tanned skin I think.

i usually wear an undershirt or camisole under a lot of blouses bc i am afraid of my bra showing through.
do you have to make sure that your bikini line area is shaved clean before wearing white pants?

Ugh. Now you all see why I have such white clothing issues in addition to the 'stains too easily' issue. Undergarment show-thru, getting waxed just to wear white pants? - forget it!!, white swimwear creating nipple and 'down there' show thru, nipple show thru when cold...... Man, I love the look of white, but I'm just not feeling it.

I love the look of white - clean and crisp. But I have a fear of the period issue and my plain old messiness. However, I'm going to make the venture this year and buy white pants.

Case in point - today I am wearing a white skirt. I'm not in the office ten minutes before I spill coffee down the front. Now it looks like I peed my pants. Let me tell you, after trying to wash it out in the bathroom, now it looks like an even bigger disaster.

RE: White swimwear. I've owned a couple white bikinis in my lifetime--they are all lined to avoid pornographic displays.

ETA: I also have the Ipex bra and recommend it--I HATE HATE HATE padded bras (wearing a padded bra is like a man wearing a toupee IMO), but this one is just, as Artist described, of a thicker material. FWIW I have the worst problems with nipping out, too, and this bra is good at concealing it.

I try to never go out the door if I fear the nipping thing will happen! (Though if I am hanging out at home on the weekend, DH probably hopes I will wear something that shows that. Men:rolleyes: )

I tried on a pair of white capri pants from the Limited this weekend and YUK.

These were a nice material too but you could totally see through them. I understand the whole flesh colored thong but they just looked so cheesy. Seeing the pockets to me looks really bad.

I agree - they look so tacky! I really don't want to see the flesh on your butt.

I really wanted to get a pair too...and I know these weren't cheap-o material because I have another pair in khaki.

I think I will just stick to khaki capris for a summery look
