View Full Version : Ingredient question
If a recipe calls for "1 c melted butter", do you:
take 1 c solid butter and melt it, or
melt a bunch of butter and then measure 1 cup's worth?
Thanks.:o

I have always done 1 cup of butter then melted it, but now that you mention it, I'm not entirely sure that's right...

Yes, you would melt 2 sticks (each stick is one-half cup). :)
With butter and melting, I think the understanding is you measure it before melting (because the volume will be pretty close to the same).
With other ingredients where the volume can change depending on what you are doing to it, then you have to hope the instructions are gramatically correct. For instance:
1 cup rice, cooked
vs.
1 cup cooked rice
The first you'd measure 1c rice before cooking, the second you'd measure 1c after cooking.
yeah, what they said
