I have long been a fan of the Hamptons in NY. DH's family insists on going to Wildwood, NJ. I am trying to get them to go some place else this summer as I have found that most people in Wildwood are from PA and we don't get to see them during the year. I am hoping we could meet some nice 30-40 somethings at the shore this summer. I know NOTHING about Seaside Heights but saw several condos/houses for rent there. Can someone give me an idea about the area?
I like Spring Lake from what I have heard too but also that it is more $$$.
Thanks!

there's a world of a difference between the hamptons and wildwood! so if you're into the hamptons i think you would loathe wildwood. if you do a search, i am pretty sure there is a thread on wildwood somewhere. personally you couldn't pay me to rent a place in wildwood. i liked it when i was a little kid for the boardwalk, but that's about it.
we've always gone to long beach island (LBI). the southern end of the island is more densely populated and commercial (like around beach haven) and the northern side is a bit more calm (barnegat, harvey cedars, loveladies). i have friends with a house in lavallette, which is near seaside heights. might be a good option for you instead of looking directly IN seaside hgts. it was nice, but i think once you're an LBI girl - you're always an LBI girl!

ITA. DH's fmaily has a house in surf city, and my cousin has one there too. Its towards the "uncommercial end" of the island.

Yes! I don't think (other than our HM) that I'm completely happy with any other shore place.

pride&prejudice... my family has been renting the same house in beach haven for years! it's more of a busy area, but we like that we can walk to all the restaurants & shops. the house itself is right on the bayside, so it's quiet and there are great sunsets!

I grew up on the Jersey shore (well 10 minutes from it) and just my two cents, Spring Lake is beautiful. I wouldn't stay in Seaside it is a little "trashy" at times. Seagirt is nice as well. So is Avon. And like the other ladies have said, LBI is beautiful. My aunt used to own hotels in loveladies, too bad she sold them. :( Good luck with your search! I probably was of no help whatsoever. :o

IMO i would not stay in Seaside unless you are 19 or younger going with a group of friends and planning to stay up all night. IF thats not you then I would stay far away from there.
Well, the only time I may recommend going there is if you just feel like walking the boardwalk for a few hrs once a year.

There is another nice shore place Point Pleasant I think it is called. Dh's family used to have beach front property, but apparently it is a very "quiet" shore town.

Hmm, let's see...
I have had a house in Spring Lake, Manasquan, Belmar (3 times) and Point Pleasant.
Spring Lake was by far the nicest, most family oriented town.
'squan and belmar are much younger, much more rowdy.
Point has the boardwalk, so there's always something to do.
DH grew up in Beach Haven, so oddly enough, I don't associate it as a beach area. I wish I could, because it seems really nice. I have only seen it in the dead of winter.
