Also, would you ladies like a list of the upcoming showers added in? Or should I leave that out? Up to you! :)

just checking in!

Had a scary couple hours this morning - I had a few menstrual like cramps. First two were 5 min apart, second and third were more like 20 min. apart. I ended up having about 6 in two hours. They didn't last long. But had they lasted 30 seconds or more and had continued any more, I would have headed to the hospital to get checked out. For now, they're gone, but if they start up again any time soon I'll be heading in to get checked out.

Scared me when they were happening b/c I will be 30 weeks tomorrow. With Connor, I had the same cramps (but longer and a little more regular) at 33 weeks and also at 35 weeks when I ended up being in labour and having him. In fact, MOST of my labour with him were exactly that - menstrual like cramps, nothing that was too unbearable, so I hardly believed at the time that it could be labour. But now, those kind of cramps really get my attention.

(and maybe I shouldn't have been moving dressers with DH the last couple of days -- we've been shampooing carpets around the house)

Anyway, my shower (a dinner potluck, really) is in 3 hours.... and I haven't a thing to wear!

31w0d!

Yay for a new thread!! Stats are all good on there. My next appointment (normal) is on the 26th April at 2:10pm. But I've been a slacker with putting those things down through the other threads. Lol....

Q So how many of us have 7 or less weeks until these babes are classified as full-term? I think that's what's boggling my brain the most at the moment!!

As an update, my next appointment is April 20th. My follow-up appointment with the perinatologist for my next ultrasound is May 22nd.

astlr:

I'll be 7 weeks away from full term tomorrow...I can't believe it either. I'm sorta starting to panic, thinking the office will never be cleaned out now that I am REALLY discovering that maybe I shouldn't be doing "heavy" lifting and lots of stairs.

That being said, I do feel better that we have more of a firm "to do" plan for the office:

- this weekend, I washed MOST of the clothes from Connor's first bin of grown out of clothes (0-12 mos) and have put it all in the dresser (which is now in the office). Today is my shower (in 40 min!), so once that happens, I'll take stock of what baby clothes we have brand new and weed out stuff that we probably won't dress Dawson in (ie. for every new outfit received, I'll try to get rid of an old outfit). So I can eBay/consign/give away the old stuff that we don't want anymore.

- This week, Dh is prepping & painting the basement. Once that is done, I want to buy a nice storage cabinet (wood laminate and lockable) next week and have DH set it up. Then I can start moving office supplies etc. down to that cabinet. That will allow me to completely finish emptying the closet in there so I can finally organize baby stuff into that closet (and empty out the crib which is currently housing all the baby gear & stuff that I've bought this year)

- Then, we will decide which of the two desks we'll keep and set it up downstairs (but not the computer yet).

- Then we can set up the change table in the nursery...

- then we have our garage sale on May 6, at which time we'll move the desktop computer down to the "keeper" desk in the basement.... and sell the old desk at the sale. Finally, the nursery will be just the nursery! :)

oops...gotta run!
hope everyone is having a great weekend! :)

Threadmistress, can you update DH's age to 32? Thanks!

I just saw someone's signature in a journal that I visit and I never noticed it before, but she had her son last May, six weeks early. I'm five weeks away from 34 weeks. :eek: Kind of freaked me out since we have NOTHING.

I'm starting to think we should just start buying baby stuff since I still haven't heard anything about a shower from anyone. Kind of frustrating. :(

Thanks for the new thread.

I will also be 7 weeks from full term on Wednesday.

I snagged some nursing clothes from a tag sale (yard sale/garage sale). They are casual tee shirts and tanks that will be perfect for the summer. I will still need to get some dressier stuff for work and for dates with DH (I hope to still get a few). I picked up a nice dressy blouse on sale for $10 at Motherhood on Friday. I still have quite a ways to go for nursing stuff. I really want to rack on nursing tanks since I can use them year round.

Mystikal I had the three hour GTT test. I drank the lemon lime drink, it tasted kinda like a flat sprite. The first hour I really didn't feel good and I didn't think I would make it. But after that I felt just fine. Part of the reason is probably that I didn't get there til about 9:15am. I wanted to get there first thing in the morning at 7:00am, before I got really hungry. Just be sure to bring something to occupy your time! Can you ask anyone if they are planning a shower? Maybe start hinting that you are just going to go buy some things. Maybe they are planninig a surprise shower? I understand your frustration though, it is getting close and you want to prepare!

Less then 7weeks to go I am not sure what everyone is saying as full term, but I think 36weeks is. When I was pg with my DS and having pre term labor I was told to stop taking the Terbutaline at 36weeks and that he would be just fine if born then. And he was! (born at 36weeks 3days) I am 30weeks today so I have 6 more to go for full term!

Connorsmommy No more lifting heavy things for you! I hope you don't get anymore contraction's!

I am 25, it says next month 25, but that was last November.

Thank you for starting this new thread!
~~~~~~~~~~
I had a really good weekend. My mom stayed with us and was such a great help! I really wish she could be here all the time. I have had hardly any contraction's today, it has been great! I have a Dr.s appt. on Wednesday and I am secretly hoping she will not have me on such strict bedrest anymore! One can hope right? They are going to repeat the Fetalfibronectin test while I am there too.
connorsmommy Hope the cramps stop. Leave those dressers alone!!
Kinda paranoid after a comment I got today. I went to a friend's baby shower and was talking to another friend about how this girl's registry (93 items!!) was all but cleaned out. The friend told me she had looked at mine when she went to BRU and commented on how mine only had 5 items purchased. It kind of got me worrying that maybe my shower is soon, and that is why she commented on only few items being purchased. I'm really afraid of getting a bunch of clothing, that not many people will shop off of the registry, that the shower won't be that big...bottom line, that we will end up not really getting what we need and having to buy everything ourselves. My other paranoid thought is that shower will be really late and I won't have enough time to get things ready.
Baby Lust
How long before full term: I have less than 6 weeks to go before I am full term. I'm trying to convince myself that I could go at 37 weeks, just so I can make sure I am ready!
Connors, Be careful!! And don't be afraid to go in if you need to!!
JBenny, I'm assuming your shower is a complete surprise, including the date? You could mention to your mom, who probably knows who is hosting it to ask everyone to include gift receipts!! My BF is throwing mine and is letting everyone know that we have PLENTY of clothes! That's the one thing we don't need! I expect to get some because that is the main thing people buy, but hopefully not too many, or at least have gift receipts to go with them!! Good luck! Try not to worry though! You're gonna get what you're gonna get, unfortunately.
Mystikal- *hugs* what a frustrating limbo land to be in!! I hope you get some shower details soon!!!
Babylust-Yeah it's this crazy mind game really because you have to be prepared that the baby could come anytime from 37 weeks but at the same time realise it's very realistic for it to not come until 42 weeks! What a huge window of possibility!! :eek:
Connors-BE CAREFUL!!
jbenny- there is always that concern of getting way too many clothes and not enough of what we really need. My shower is May 20 and I'm really hoping that people stick to the registry. If I wanted a bunch of clothes I would have registered for them.
BabyLust - I've been thinking bout if we will be all ready and prepared. I'll be 35.5 weeks at my shower which is 1.5 weeks from full term. That is almost scary. I really not that concerned since my brother and I were both a little late. So I'm using that as a gage for me at this time.
connonrsmommy - please stop the heavy moving. No need to add more stress. Be careful.
good morning everyone! 30 weeks tomorrow! unbelievable!
well, I had a small panic attack this weekend. more of the same stuff that everyone is talking about but I feel completely unready. my registry has some stuff bought but not much, my showers are in 3 and 4 weeks so I know that we will get more stuff but it feels so far away! DH calmed me down successfully by letting my buy some cute spring/summer clothes for myself as well as a few outfits for the baby. then my sister mailed my two huge boxes of baby clothes that will be perfect for the first year!!! so I was pretty excited about that. needless to say I have calmed down quite a bit.
I just know these next several weeks are going to fly by with last minute preparations, DH's graduation, the start of spring, finally. . .
names- since we aren't telling anyone in real life, I wanted to run this name but you guys and hope for some honest opinions. our top choice right now is Mallory. I love the sound of it and the way it's spelled. .but it means Ill-Omened or something like that. I can't decide if I really care what the name means of not. her middle name will be a very significant family name so do name definitions from years and years ago really matter? would that bother you? TIA!
connorsmommy- be careful please!
Astlr... if I may jump in here... I know that some women like to have some nursing pieces in their wardrobe, but honestly you don't really need anything other than nursing bras. Nursing shirts have convenient flaps, but that means their cut is different than regular clothes and you might not like how nursing tops look on you. Me, I had one pair of nursing pj's with the flaps. And honestly, I wore them once. I just wore my regular clothes and pj's and just lifted the shirt up when needed.
That being said, I DID buy a couple of nursing tanks a few months ago and plan on perhaps buying a couple more to wear under my regular clothes b/c I REALLY like the idea of being able to cover up my post-baby fat rolls around my middle when lifting up one side of my shirt when I'm in public or at home and around people other than DH & Connor. Those fat rolls always made me very self conscious about nursing around other people, and I'll be glad to hide them under some fabric this time around.
Shoulda – Names – even though I’m not superstitious in any way, I did eliminate some names based on meaning. I think it depends on whether the names meaning bothers you or if it will bother you when people makes comment on what it means.
I can hardly believe that I’m hitting the big 30 on Wednesday. Next Friday is April 21st and that means I’ll only be 2 calendar months from my due date.
I have to admit that the one thing I’m looking forward to the most (excluding that birth itself and meeting Noah) is seeing how much bigger my belly is going to get. DH and I shower together and this morning we switched ends in the tub and my belly brushed up against him. I told him that before long the belly just isn’t going to fit.
Yesterday I went to the Baby Expo. After $8 in parking and $16 total for us to get in, it was kind of a rip off. They just didn't have that many exhibitors it didn't seem like. We got a lot of coupons and quite a few samples so that part was good. Especially the Lansinoh samples, they gave me that ointment stuff for your breasts I've been wanting to try and 2 kinds of breastpads, baby wipes, and some storage bags. Score! I was hoping someone would be selling slings and stuff like that that I still need. It didn't seem like you could buy very much, it was just all information booths. Alot of the products we already have purchased or planned to. They did have crawling baby races and that was very cute to watch!
We also went and added a couple of things to our Target registry.
I am feeling so big and uncomfortable lately. I feel like I have ballooned in the last 2 weeks, all in my belly. I look like I have a basketball under there and I'm pretending to be pregnant :D . Does anyone else ever feel pressure in their vaginal or rectal areas? I get a weird feeling there sometimes.
I'm still leaking. It was pretty bad last night, before I even went to sleep I was just watching tv and looked down and I was wet. It happened more in the night. I am just wearing old shirts and looking on the brightside that my breasts are preparing for my baby :) just as they should be.
Hello All :D
Thanks for the new thread :D What a reality check that we're all in the 3rd tri :eek:
Please update the following:
EDD: 6/2/06
Induction: 5/19/06
Has anyone heard from Jad???
connors STOP MOVING FURNITURE!! That is DH's job.
Non baby registry items: As long as it has a tag from the store, it can be returned w/o a receipt. The only time I really had sort of a problem is from Burlington Coat Factory. They did however find the items and gave me a store credit. Other than that the majority of the stores know that a lot of people don't give gift receipts and take it back.
So I know you don't want to have to return items, but please don't stress that you'll be stuck with items you don't need. Trust me, I'm a returning fool w/o a receipt :D
Some Advice: Keep the boxes for everything you get. I've had stuff, tried it out and then returned it if Niko didn't like it. I got store credit for it. But the major thing is having the box.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Went to the dr this am. Doing good and baby is fine. We discussed my induction and she said we'll know better when I have my internal at 36 weeks. We'll set up a definate date then, but it will still be 38 weeks (which is 5/19).
She also said that I can go at any time, but that's not going to happen :D I'm a planner and he will not come until I say so :D

Well I'm off to do some stuff around the house. Still feel like I need to be doing stuff :/ Have a good day.

nikosmommy - glad you and the babe are doing well. Wow, you are almost one month from meeting your baby.

Low pressure – I sometimes get low pelvic pressure depending on how the baby is positioned. It doesn’t last long. If I rub the area or get up and walk, the baby moves and the pressure goes away.

In yesterday’s child birth class we started studying second stage labor. It was cool and DH got to help. I really like the idea of leaning against DH while he helps me hold my legs back. I’m so looking forward to this. We got to see another child birth. I just love watching them.

On Saturday, we went to a baby care class given by the LC at my ob’s office. I was very impressed with her. One of the things she mentioned was to make sure that when they put the baby on you right after birth to keep him/her there until you establish breastfeeding for the first time. She said that the nurses can do everything they need to do, except weigh the baby, with the baby on your chest. If the nurses insist on taking the baby for a “few” minutes, be adamant and tell them no. She said that whether they weigh the baby immediately or 5 hours later doesn’t matter. She said that some nurses can become pushy so that they can finish their checklist, but we have the right to postpone things. She also stressed the importance of skin to skin contact and talked about a situation where the mother had a c-section and the father took off his shirt and kept the baby skin to skin until the mom was wheeled back in the room. She had a picture and it was cute. The baby had a hand full and daddy’s check hair. I was even more impressed with her stance on co-sleeping. I expected her to advice us not to do it, but instead all she said is if you are going to do it, be safe about it. She gave a list of things to be careful for and situation where your should not co-sleep. I’m not so sure I feel safe doing it, but I can almost guarantee that we will end up doing it. It will make late night feedings so much easier.

Looks like everyone is doing great... I hope you all had a great weekend.

Pressure: I have that sometimes. I think it is just round ligament pain. No real tips except to try to stay stretched and limber.

Shoulda- I really like the name Mallory. It's a name that definitely isn't to trendy or too unheard of. Plus she can cut it down to Lory later if she wants, which I like if a name is more than 2 syllables long.

Niko: That is so amazing that you will be meeting your little guy so soon! I am still in shock that it is almost time.

Pink- I am leaking bad too. I started wearing nursing pads at work and I need to find a cami with a built in bra for night.

Shower/registry- I need to stress to my mom that we don't want clothes as well. I think I since my mom is still making the invitations I may tell her to make another card so that everyone is assigned a different category and then a list of ideas from that list. So example: Bath Time: Wash cloths, soap, shampoo, lotions. or Diaper Station: Diaper Champ, diapers, wipes, butt cream, baby powder.

~~~
So we went on our hospital tour this weekend. It was so surreal because most of my young cousins were born there and while we were waiting in the main lobby things kind of came full circle for me. I saw these kids playing with the fountain that I can remember playing with when I was little while waiting to meet them and now here I am having my own. Then I thought that one day my lil one will be playing in that same fountain waiting to meet one of their cousins or relatives.
Anyways. Likes: They are totaling remodeling the Birth Center. The rooms and lobby are gorgeous and they have all the amenities there in your room like cable tv, dvd player, loaded mini fridge, spa tub. They no longer have the nursery for all the babies the baby rooms in with the mother unless it needs to go to NICU and they have all the hi-tech stuff to make sure no one walks off with your baby. It is really impressive.
Dislikes: The nursing staff seems very pro-epidural. I asked about birthing balls and squat bars and I got that look like why the heck would you need that. And then they mentioned that soon as you go into your birthing room you are strapped down to all their machines. I asked about opting out of that and getting the baby checked as neccessary and again I got that WTF look. I was trying to ask questions about mobility and such and then the lady finally asked if anyone else was planning NCB. Then she seemed to ignore me after that. It just made me feel kind of uncomfortable.
Conclusion: I'm just going to have to talk to my doctor and dh that much more about what I want. Also I think I am going to make a sign for the door that says that I am going for a NCB and some simple rules for setting up that environment such as "Please don't use the E word (epidural) unless I the mother bring it up." They also have a very lenient visitor policy so I think I am going to have to borrow one of those Please Do Not Disturb Signs for the times that I don't want unneccesary people in there.
I went to a friend's baby shower yesterday. I really ended up getting angry. The women there were not just having one or two cigarettes, but they were freakin' CHAIN SMOKING. There were three other PG women there, a small baby, and a bunch of little kids. Why is that necessary? Can't you step out for a minute, smoke your darn cig. and be able to make it through a two-hour party without smoking every second? Even the mommy-to-be's cousin, who is to be the baby's godmother, was standing right next to her puffing away while she opened gifts, until my friend realized it and yelled at her. SO RUDE. I smelled like I had been in a bar! I couldn't even leave because I had to bring my friend home after her shower.
shouldaeloped ~ I completely missed your post. I really like the name Mallory. I looked in my baby name book and it means tough-minded or spunky. I did see online where it means ill-omened, but there are so many meanings for different names that it's tough to know what's true. Kaeden has dozens of meanings.
Good morning everyone!
Hope we all had a good weekend, even if we spent it working on one project or another.
Had a pretty uneventful weekend actually! We had our maternity pictures taken on Saturday morning, which was alot of fun, but I cringe when I look at the pictures. I definitely have gained weight (especially in my face) and it looks awful in all the pics I've seen. Thinking I can maybe crop my face out and just leave the belly. We shall see when they all come in.
Also went for the car seat clinic, but the wait was over 2 hours long (which would've led to closing time) so we decided to skip it and go to the next one (May 7th) and get everything inspected then.
I have a mid-wife appointment today and then I am planning on attending my first La Leche League meeting. It will be interesting and I'll decide from there if I want to return or not. I also need to set-up an appointment with the LC at our hospital.
Full Term ~ Tomorrow, I will be only 4 weeks away from full term and 7 weeks away from my EDD. I'm going to talk to the M/W tomorrow though, as she's told me that I'm a full week ahead of where I am. It's very exciting though, can't wait to hit the 37 Week mark.
Shoulda ~ I like the name Mallory I had it on my list, but DH vetoed it. Like KaedensMommy just posted, you can find so many different meanings for a name, it just depends on where you look. I wouldn't choose or reject a name based just on the meaning.
JBenny ~ That is completely rude, especially when there were so many other people there (not just PG and Babies.) I don't know anyone who smokes inside anymore, everyone I know goes outside, just out of respect.
Connorsmommy ~ Don't overdue it...especially when you start getting contractions too. I say that after I spent yesterday lugging groceries around and standing cooking all afternoon. I think I experienced a couple BH yesterday, but still not sure.
Lil_Mrs ~ We have our hospital tour tomorrow night. I love the story about you being there when your cousins were born, etc. The hospital we are delivering at is relatively new and the family is too spread out for that to happen...but it's nice to hear. Also, can you not do a Birth Plan that outlines what you do and do not want during birth? We've started to fill it out, but I decided to wait a little longer and then decide what was important to me and what wasn't. I'm going to discuss it with the M/W too, just so we are on the same page.
Okay...time for lunch as my little one is STARVING (or is that me?)
jbenny - smoking around children and pg women is extremely rude. Where was the shower? You would hope that someone would say something.
lil_mrs - very rude of the nurses to ignore your questions and your choice of childbirth. This will stress the importance of your DH being your advocate. He will need to make it clear that certain things are unacceptable. Bring your own birthing ball. I think you can get what you want but it may be a battle
thank you for the comments on the name. and to find out there are other meanings out there such as "tough-minded or spunky" makes me very happy. I think I just needed some extra reassurance.
shoulda - see if your hospital or ob/mw office offers any BF classes. I'm taking one as part of my childbirth class and an additional one through my OB's office. My OB's office has a LC on staff and I want to get to know her before she visits me in the hospital.
Please update my stats--I am 38, next appt. 4/27, we married 4/21/01 and the name we've picked is Meredith Jayne
Thanks for the new thread!
I was in Steamboat Springs all weekend--no skiing for me, although I was VERY tempted. I did have a 1/4 glass of wine though. Yum.
Lawyerwifemom- I like the name Meredith Jayne. They go really well together.
JBenny- I can't believe they were smoking like that! All the smokers I know always ask if their guest minds if they smoke in the same room even if the guest is another smoker. It's just common courtesy. I went to the Casino this weekend and even though parts of it were non-smoking just walking through the smoking sections gave me a migraine and a bloody nose.
Birth plan- I had already planned to make a birth plan but I get the feeling that the nurses will ignore it to do what they see neccessary (or the norm). I think I will post it and make sure that Dh sticks it to them if they choose to ignore it w/o discussing it with us first. Who knows it may just be the touring nurses attitude. Hopefully I'll get one that is very supportive.
just a quick update..
I just got cleared for disability! This Doc said that it is defiintely carpal tunnel...that I have 50 percent chance of it going away after birth...if it doesn't he will reevaluate by giving me an EMG six months after the baby is born, resulting in probable surgery....until then he changed my splints and is giving me the option of cortisone if I absolutely can't handle the pain.
its good news to know that I will be covered all the way thru if needed---(and it could mean extra time to stay at home with the baby, Now I just have to navigate the government's application process and tell my job that I am out for a *little longer than expected.* UUGGH
Tomorrow, I have the gestational diabetes test--which hopefully I will pass...
and I can't see my toes anymore!!!!!
Not much going on around here. The next few weekends are crazy, so it's been nice to have a fairly quiet one.
Birth Plan: I didn't have one the first time around, and won't make one this time either. Other than wanting a healthy Mom and baby in the end, I don't care what it takes to get there. Overall, I was really happy with how labor and delivery went with Mia, I'm hoping for a similar one with this baby (although a little quicker would be nice).
Our hospital is pretty nice (at least the L&D floor is). All rooms are private with private bathrooms. They're on the large side, so if Dad wants to stay overnight, he can. Other than once a day when the residents and pediatricians come in to eval all the babies, we can keep the baby in our room the entire time or ask for the baby to go back to the nursery so Mom can get some sleep. It's a pretty nice set up.
lawyerwifemom & Shoulda: I love your name choices. I really wish DH and I would get on the ball and start considering names. We haven't had a single discussion about them.
Birth Plan ~ I share the thoughts of jay&erinn on this. I didn't have a birth plan last time and don't plan to have one this time either. I'm a take-it-as-it comes person and L&D is no different to me. I don't have strong feelings about NCB for myself and trust all the nurses and docs at my hospital to listen to my feelings during L&D.
Is anyone else starting to have a hard time doing every day things like cleaning, unloading groceries, carrying laundry, etc.? I've straightened the bedroom and scrubbed the bathroom and I'm exhausted now and my back is killing me. Same way after I hit the grocery store, it's so hard to get all the groceries in by myself now. I get so tired and I hurt.
Edited to add:
I just deleted that post I made about Raspberry Tea because I don't want to hurt anyone. I just did a search for it in the Pregnancy section and it says people drink it to induce labor. I need to do some more research on this because that's not why I wanted to drink it.
Pink I've never heard of a strict restriction on when to drink RL tea. I have had it at random times throughout each of my pregnancies. Is the 2 month thing something you read in a reliable source? Are they by chance referring to multiple cups a day/7 days a week??
Thanks for the compliments on the name lil and jay! Meredith was a name both DH and I could agree on (there aren't that many girl names!) and Jayne (with the y) is DH's mom's middle name. Rachel has my middle (which is also my mom's) and Wyatt has DH's middle.
Your Pregnancy Week by Week-Says that rapsberry tea is fine and it helps with nausea and to stabilize hormones.
The Tradtitional Medicinals raspberry tea box says it is safe for any stage or pregnancy. I'm sure a cup a day or every couple of days is fine. I'm making a cup right now and will post a review :) .
Thanks for the new thread!
We had a very productive weekend. We got the nursery painted, the glider delivered, and the furniture put together. It's so exciting to see it all coming together!
Shoulda-Love the name Mallory. I don't put much stock into the meanings of names because every book I look at says something different.
I'll be 7 weeks away from full-term on Thursday--I can't believe how quickly time is moving. We'll be meeting our babies before we know it!
04-10-2006, 03:00 PM
Shoulda - My book says Mallory means "army counselor"?! I say go for it and don't worry about all of these weird meanings. Make up your own, like "precious and beautiful child" or "strong woman who will always be the prettiest". ;)
gina73
04-10-2006, 03:13 PM
shoulda - I really like the name Mallory too! I personally wouldn't choose a name I liked because of the meaning, but that's just me. I don't really read much into that kind of stuff - my name meaning really doesn't reflect anything about me, as it means "royalty", and I'm sure not that!
Lawyerwifemom - congrats on having a name picked out - it's a great one!
Lil Mrs - I can't believe how unaccomodating the tour seemed for you. Hopefully when things get rolling, they'll respect your wishes. You just have to make sure you and your coach stand up for what you want and don't compromise. My feeling is, as soon as they see you crack or give in for something, they know they've got you...but that's the pessimist in me.
registry/panic - well, I can agree with this panic. My shower date came and went (on Saturday), and I still have a ton of stuff on my registry that no one picked out. Granted, I missed my shower due to travel restrictions, but it wasn't cancelled until two days before. Which can only mean I need to brace myself for getting a crapload of clothes. At least some of the big ticket items that we NEED have been purchased, like our car seat, stroller and breast pump.
birth plan - I've been working on this and plan to bring it to my OB at my next appointment. It's all getting a bit tricky now with the chances of a c-section increasing, so I need to go back and re-evaluate. My OB said we could go through it together, but he suggested I NOT bring one to the hospital with me. His feeling is that the nurses get all up-tight and peg you as a difficult patient if you bring one in. But if I don't express my wishes to those that are assisting me, how will they know? I'm going to bring a copy with me anyway.
My mom and aunt came in town this weekend to throw me a small mini-shower, and it was more fun than I thought it would be! Granted, there was a lot of mystery and secrecy, including random trips out of the house, making me leave for a couple of hours or go to bed early. But it was worth it. My mom had gotten pictures of all my friends and blown them up, then posted their heads on posterboard and set them up around the main room so it felt like my friends were there. And they went to town with decorations too! We played games, had punch and cake, and opened presents just like a real shower. The gifts they gave for the most part were small (so I could have a lot to unwrap), but we did get our car seat and breast pump, which we were really thankful for. It wasn't the same, but it was perfect and cheered me up immensely.
We got a call that our glider and ottoman is in, and that the rest of our nursery furniture may be in on Wednesday! I sure hope it is, and that we can get it delivered on Friday. I'm anxious to get the nursery set up!
gina-How cute of your mom and aunt to go all out on your mini shower like that! Atleast you had that to cheer you up. If the shower date had come and gone with nothing you would have probably have felt alot more dissapointed.
The raspberry tea was pretty good. I will definately drink it again. There was nothing raspberry-ish about tho to me.
Gina ~ Glad your mini-shower was fun. Your mom and aunt sound so sweet to work so hard to make you feel better. Don't worry too much about only getting clothes. Many people are terrible about marking items off the registry when they purchase. Hopefully that's the case for you.
Pink ~ Thanks for the review on the tea. I had some when I was pg with K and I didn't really like it so maybe I'll have to try the brand you posted. Too bad it isn't raspberry-ish - I love raspberry flavor.
gina - that sounds like an awesome shower. I say take the birth plan with your when you go. Share it only if you think you need to. I wouldn't want to be pegged a difficult patient but it comes down to you. Assuming all things are going well, the only way you will get the birth you want is to let them know.
Shoulda, Mallory is so cute!!! I really like it! I say don't worry about the meanings! How many people say "Oh, that's cute! What does it mean?" You know?
Lawyerwifemom, Meredith is a very cute name!! Congrats on deciding!
Gina, How cute of your mom and aunt! I can't believe they made cardboard cutouts of all your friends!! How fun!
gina That shower sounds like great fun. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!
Birth plan I don't think you will be marked as a difficult patient if you hand over/talk over a short to the point birth plan when you arrive and while you are being checked in. Things are usually still pretty calm at that point. For me, my big thing was I absolutely wanted to avoid a C section and I did not want an episiotomy. I told my labor and delivery nurse both things in a conversational tone right up front during all the history taking/small talk stuff. She was receptive and kind and I believe she heard me. I had written out a plan earlier in my first pg, and it was a helpful exercise for me, even though I never shared the written plan.
Also, make sure you discuss your desires with your OB/midwife well before the big day. (I took my written plan to an appointment and used it as notes as I discussed things with my doc, but I never actually showed it to her). And, make sure you tell your DH how important it is for him to advocate for you. Very few things happen during labor where you have NO time to decide (true emergencies). There is nothing wrong with taking a minute or two to make a decision--big or little. Like if your OB says -- I am going to rupture your membranes to get you going a little faster-- it is perfectly fine to ask him/her to hold on a minute while you decide if that is ok with you. It will speed things up, true, but it will also bring the contractions on more powerfully and painfully. If it is important to you to avoid drugs, you may want to decline. You may want to accept but have a moment to mentally prepare yourself for stronger contractions. My OB offered to rupture mine and I accepted, knowing that my plan included an epidural and I was fine with the increased contractions. (there are also other risks to rupture, like infection if you are GBS+).
If you come across as informed but not aggressive, and like you are asking the nurses to partner with you, I think most nurses worth their salt will do their best to work with and help you. I LOVED my L & D nurses both times.
lil I'm sorry your tour was less than supportive. For what it is worth, I bet your nurse in labor will be better. My L & D nurse had had her 2 kids with NCB but yet she totally supported me even though I was sure from the get go that I would get an epidural at 5ish centimeters or so (5 with Rachel, 7 with Wyatt)
hey girls! I forgot to update on my shower from last night! :) It was a nice fun shower, done as a potluck dinner (egg salad, curried chicken and tuna finger sandwiches, fruits, veggies, scones, etc.) and we all sat around D's humongous dinning room table having fun and chatting for a couple of hours.
At the end, D announced the surprise part of my shower -- because I told her that we really had everything we needed for the baby, they decided to do a food shower -- each person attending prepared a casserole (or something else freezable) and that was their gifts to us! :) A couple things I will not eat (shrimp thing and a crab/spinach lasagane -- I don't do seafood/fish) , but dh & ds will enjoy those dishes and it will still cut down on the amount of cooking we'll have to do when Dawson comes.
So our freezer is stuffed right now, and we're pretty excited about that. Now to try to keep our paws off all those casseroles and stuff until Dawson arrives when we can REALLY use them! :)
*********
and yes, I promise not to move any more furniture. Really, it wasn't heavy lifting...more just lifting and sliding... But I know I shouldn't even do that, though sometimes I figure it's no big deal b/c I constantly have to lift and wrestle with a 30 lb boy. LOL!
Anyway, I am bad about doing SO's to people, so I just hope everyone is having a great Monday! :)
Birthplans- I wrote mine up today (atleast copied and pasted all the things I liked from other NCB plans). I think because I am having a NCB in a more pro-epidural birth center that I need to bring my birth plan in and post it on the white board they have in there. Gina That is awesome what your mom and aunt did for you!
Connorsmommy What a great idea for your shower!
Babylust We have that same boppy cover! It is very cute
Birth plan No NCB here! I had an epi with my son and plan on the same thing this time. I am sort of scared since my labor was pretty quick with him that my labor this time will be really short. And I might not have time to get an epi.
Trouble sleeping Still getting up alot to pee. And last night I was very uncomforable, I would toss and turn alot!
~~~~~~~~~

So being on bedrest is turning out to be way more stressful then not! I am having a hard time reading about everyone being able to go out and do things. No offense at all to anyone here. The biggest thing is my mil! She is the one helping the most here and she just doesn't do things the way I want with my DS and it is stressing me out to no end! Really I would rather watch him myself then have her here sometimes. I pretty much lay on the couch and watch him anyway and he is usually really easy to take care of. My DH is working so much because of tax season, hopefully this week is the end of the busy season. He is around alot, but works late because he is with us for a few hours after DS wakes up from his nap and we have dinner. But I am just having a hard time with all of this. I know it is what is best for my baby.

I have started to notice that I pretty much only get the contraction's when my bladder is full. I know that it irritates your uterus. But the fact that I have to pee about twenty times a day doesn't help. And I tend to hold it sometimes. Yesterday I went right when I felt the urge and I had about two contraction's all day. I am seriously hoping my OB takes me off of bedrest on Wednesday! Fingers crossed!

Thanks for letting me vent ladies!

I don't sleep anymore :) I am up all night literally. Ever since my hands started hurting me, I can only rest for a short period of time withour pain. Both the baby and I are very active all night long and then we crash at 7 am ish for about 3 hours and then nap late afternoon during law and order for about 2 hours. i've been in this cycle for about 2 and a half months.

Most of the time it works---some days my body survives--somedays I sleep for hours.

Sunshine- I am so glad you like the gifts! I bought all three items for myself too---ummm I mean the baby :p

The Make Way For Ducklings book is an extremely special book to me. I love it. Most kids that grow up in Boston can identify all the ducklings, but I am not sure if other regions know of it as well. My goal is that every child has a personal friendship with Mack , Quack and the rest of the gang....your babies eyes will glow with magic when you visit Boston and The Public Gardens for the first time after sharing that book with her :D

Sleeping: Surprisingly, I have not had to get up in the middle of the night to pee! I feel very blessed about that! I must have a bladder of steel! :p But I do have problems staying comfy. My hips really hurt if I lay on one side for too long. I am naturally a tummy sleeper so this has been quite a change for me. Plus my DH snores so loud so if I don't get to sleep before him and sleep through the night, I'm screwed!!! :rolleyes:

maryanne: Hopefully we will get to visit Boston someday - My dh is a HUGE Red Sox fan & has been all his life. I have never read the book (that I remember) but I am looking forward to reading it to our baby girl. Thanks again for everything!

sleeping: usually I get up atleast once every night - either to use the bathroom and/or get a drink & check on everything around the house/ look outside - why do I do this ... I have no clue.

Registering: we finally got registered at Target this weekend. whew glad that is over with - it did not take that long at all but my feet were killing me when we were done. we are still going to register for a few things at babies r us this week or next week sometime.

doctors appt: is tomorrow morning - this is a regular check up - I am wondering if he will do an exam - have yall started getting exams "down there" yet?

Now you tell me about the red sox connection!!!! lol! I would have loved to get her some red sox gear.

As I, have probably mentioned before my hubby and I are huge baseball fans. Unfortunately , he loves the yankmes and I am a red sox girl---we had to agree on *no baseball outfits* for the baby until she is old enough to choose for herself!

I would have LOVED to buy at least your baby some Sox gear--lol

maryanne: That's so funny about the book. As soon as I saw that you had bought it, I figured you were from Boston. I live in PA, and a good friend of mine is from Boston, but now is a neighbor. She bought that book for Mia this Christmas- said she HAD to have it. It's very cute.

sleeping: It's been a problem for some time. I have that problem that if you lay on your back you get lightheaded. Unfortunately it also happens if I lay on my right side (guess the baby presses on all kinds of nerves and vessels when you're only 5'1"). I can only sleep on my left side, and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and just sit up for awhile- just for a change in position. I've occasionally rolled onto my back in my sleep and am jolted awake with heart palpitations and lightheadedness. It stinks.

sunshine: My doc doesn't do internals until 37/38 weeks- thank goodness. They are definately more uncomfortable than the normal yearly check.

excited: I can't imagine how hard bedrest would be. Don't push yourself though. I know how limited I felt when pregnant with Mia when I wasn't allowed to drive- felt like a prisoner in my own home, and I was still allowed to go to work, and do other things if I felt well enough. It's gotta be tough.

Well, I'm a little frustrated. DH's brother needs a new roof put on his house. He's going up memorial weekend to help. I can't go- it's 2.5 hours away, 3 weeks before I'm due. DH also works one weekend a month and has one 4 day weekend off a month. He works the weekend before memorial weekend, so that's his long weekend- he won't be spending it here helping prepare for this baby. I feel a little selfish, but I'm annoyed. His brother has spent one day helping work on our house in 6 years (and we've redone this entire house). DH has put a new kitchen in his and now a new roof. To top it off, he has to work another weekend in between memorial day and my EDD.
OK- done with my vent.

I just wanted to stop by and quickly post that I just got notification that my virtual shower buddy's gift has been shipped and should arrive tomorrow! When I ordered it, there was no place that I found to write a message so although my real name is on it, my CC name is not. So if you're located in IL and receive a package tomorrow, it is probably from me!

Babylust SO JEALOUS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET UP AND PEE

Birth Plan: I do not have one … yikes…but I feel like I am more w/ go w/ the flow type of person and my mom is a L&D nurse and will be tehre with me….so I trust her instincts. (She is not delivering just staying w/ me and DH)

On the verge of 30 weeks...holy cow this time is flying!

I took yesterday off from work. I got up with the alarm, showered, and then decided that I needed a day to just sit around. I've been good about "powering through" this last 7 months, so I figured I deserved a little break.

We had a great weekend and got a lot accomplished. DH and I had a date night on Friday--dinner and then home to watch a movie. I made it about halfway through the movie before falling asleep. Opps! I woke up early on Saturday morning, painted all the moulding in the nursery, and then we went to Home Depot for more supplies. DH and I grabbed a quick lunch and then we went home so I could prime the nursery. While primed the nursery, DH did some other projects around the house and patched a few nail holes in the nursery walls. We went to my cousin's house that night and had a big family dinner. No one on that side of the family had seen me pregnant yet so that was kinda fun.

The weather was beautiful on Sunday so DH and I spent the better part of the morning (after I finished painting the nursery) putting up a fence. We were done by 2 o'clock so we went to a late lunch with DH's best friend and then spent the rest of the night sitting around. I'm so happy to have the nursery painted and the fence up (so I can be outside this summer without my neighbor constantly chatting with me), but I think I overdid it a little bit...hence the recovery day yesterday.

I managed to take advantage of having nothing to do. I only cleaned a little bit and touched up some paint in the nursery. I drove into Boston to have lunch with DH, stopped at Target (the Mossimo polos are really long and work great as maternity wear), and came home to watch a lot of baby shows on Discovery. Good day.

Hope everyone is doing well!!!:D

Sleeping- I sleep okay. I wake up a couple times in the middle of the night to switch sides/positions. I found that propping up my pillows and sleeping on my side partially sitting up works best for me. I was waking up a couple of times a night with heart burn. I only get up to pee if DH does. I don't think about it but once I hear that toilet flush I have to run to the bathroom.

Amurphy- Thanks for the tip on the Mossimo polos. I am actually going to Target today to get a couple of tanks to go with this cute skirt I got the other day at lunch today. I got some Gotchas (company's caught being good sort of thing) and one of the options is a $10 Target card.

Congrats on getting the nursery painted. It sounds like you had a great weekend with DH.

Jay&Erinn- Sorry your DH has to leave for the weekend. I actually thought for 1/2 a second of going camping that weekend and reality set in. I keep forgetting how soon our babies are really coming.

~~~~~
Only a few updates for me today. I got a call from the OB's office and my appointment got bumped back to May 3rd from the first not too big of a deal.
Also my photo shoot is tomorrow after work! I am so excited!! (Hence part of the reason I am shopping today at lunch). I need to pick out my outfits tonight and get them all ready.
my appt update:
I have gained a total of 18 lbs UGGGG he did not complain on it too much just told me to try & watch my calories - eat more fruits & veggies. The nurse could not find the h/b at 1st so they brought in a better, bigger doppler and had no problem finding it with that one. I talked to him about my ankles swelling , he suggest that I try to get out & walk atleast 10-20 mins a day (during lunch or in the morning- ya right!) and that I needed to lay down as soon as I get home from work on my left side for atleast 30 mins before doing anything else around the house (cleaning, cooking, etc.)
my next appt is April 26th
30 weeks tomorrow!!
Sleeping – this has been a problem from day 1. I did get a little break near the end of the 1st and beginning of 2nd trimester. Now I’m lucky to get 4 hours of straight sleep. I usually start on my left side then wake with my hips hurting so I then switch to my right side and can sometimes fall back to sleep. I do this flip-flop many times a night since my hips hurt if I stay on one side to long. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs does help some.
Shaqangel – I’m glad you and Dh are enjoying the shower gift.
I’m jealous of all the received gifts so far. I run to the back porch everyday when I get home. I know it is pitiful.
DH and I went to Children’s Place on Saturday and bought some clothes. We got an outfit for each of our two god sons and two outfits for our little one. The baby’s room closet still needs some attention. We haven’t touched it in well over a month.
Shower – according to SIL invites are going out this week. I won’t hold my breath on that, but she could surprise me. Our shower is 5 weeks from this upcoming Saturday. Still a ways to go and I’m sure I’ll be registry stalking ‘til the morning of.
I have some Mossimo tanks from Target and they are great in length. I have one on today and need to get some more. I only bought 3.
Sunshine – don’t let the doc scare you about 18 lbs. I think that is a respectable weight gain. I was up 27lbs at my appt in March and no one said a word. I eat well for the most part. I do occasionally have ice cream and fried food, but I did that before I got pregnant and didn’t balloon to an outrageous weight. All of our bodies are different and not all of us fit into the cookie cutter for pregnant women and gain only 25lbs.
Good morning...boy we were an active group yesterday.
I would love to do replies to everyone, but I'm too tired and lazy to go back through the 6 pages I missed (in one afternoon!) So I will just reply to whatever I can remember.
Gina ~ I'm so glad that your package arrived...I've been wondering. I'm sorry it wasn't more creative, but as I said, I have really been stressing myself over getting the 'essentials' and figured it was something you could use. And I'm so glad your shower was a success and cheered you up a little.
Connorsmommy[b] ~ What a great idea for a shower. I am going to try to get our freezer stalked, but it's not working too well these days. Maybe when I'm done work.
[b]Sleeping ~ I find I'm lucky if I get about 3 full hours of sleep between waking up to pee. It's really becoming a pain, but not much I can do about it. Saturday night I was up 8 times to go to the bathroom...and the crappy part is that I'm just getting a little piddle, not even worth flushing the toilet for.
Birth Plan ~ Haven't thought about it yet...I would like to write something down, very short and sweet about what I want and don't want. It's not much, to be honest, but that I'd like to labour as long as possible without an epidural, I want the drops to be put off as long as possible, I want to breast feed immediately, avoid an episiotomy and that's about it...not much really.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had my M/W appointment yesterday.

My Blood Pressure is up again (124/90) and she said we would watch that. My weight was up again too, so I'm up about 25lbs...but as my M/W said the more I gain the more I have to lose, so something to watch. No more protein in my urine, which is good. Baby is still head down and I'm measuring about a week ahead.

The one area of concern, which is now freaking me out a little and making me worry about labour for the very first time, is that the baby is currently turned the wrong way. We are currently back to back (his back is facing my back) as opposed to being back to face (his face to my back) She said that I have to really work on getting him turned by doing some exercises, squats, birthing ball, hands and knees, walking up and down the stairs. She says if he doesn't turn, I will have a difficult labour and that it will probably lead to back labour (which an epidural doesn't help.)

So, I'm going to do my very best to turn him, but he's been in this position for a long time (I can feel knees and fists pushing to get out) so I don't know how easy it will be.

And only one more two week appointment until I go to weekly. I think internals start for me between 36-37weeks.

Also went to a La Leche League meeting last night for the first time. I was the only PG person and the youngest baby was 4 months. It was a nice group of women and I will go back again, but it was a little weird to see all these women just stopping what they were doing to B/F their children on demand. And the leader shared that she's still B/F her 5 year old whenever she wants...no offense to anyone, but for me personally, I don't plan on BF that long. They also gave me a list of LC to contact for help. I'm going to go through the hospital for now, but at least I have a list if needed.

And our last prenatal class is tonight, we are doing the hospital tour, so should be interesting.

Sunshine, was your doc serious about thinking 18 pounds is too much? I think that is great! I'm already up ~26 and I'm happy about it. I'm aiming for less than 40, prefereable closer to 35. I think that for most women 25 pounds is pretty unrealistic.

Baby Lust/Amanda Thank you for the adorable outfits for Meredith! My gift arrived yesterday afternoon (but we have house guests so I didn't even see the package til later!) I got two cute sunsuits and a overalls/short set with little pink hearts all over. Very cute! And perfect for Meredith because Rachel was a February baby and I don't have much lightweight stuff in 0-3 months. Thanks!!! Sunshine- I wouldn't worry about your weight... You're doing great! I am already up 30 lbs despite my diet and exercise. My OB says that as long as I still feel healthy and stay active that I shouldn't worry about it and we can work on losing the weight after the baby is born if it is a concern.

Mrs. Brownie- I'll look in About.com for the article I read but it had some good tips on exercises with the birthing ball that helps turn the baby. I think also pelvic tilts on all fours helps turn the baby too. Which reminds me that I need to get back in the habit of doing those again. I stopped while M was here because of course you don't want to butt exercises in front of someone besides your DH.

Freezing meals- I told my Dh about the freezer meals thread here and he laughed at me and told me those suggestions are for people that cook. He does all the cooking and told me that he won't be too tired to make himself a darn plate like he always does. I only cook maybe once a week... He said if that was too stressful I can cook frozen pizzas or lasagna on my nights.

Shower- I forgot to post- My mom made a prototype of my invitations and my cousin is going over there to make them tomorrow. Here's a pic of the prototype...

Hey girls! No time for replies as I have a conference call in 20 minutes but I wanted to update on my appointment.

I'm 31w3d today. My BP was good - 124/82, lost another 2 pounds and her HB was good - 140s. She measured my fundal height and told me I was measuring 3 1/2 weeks ahead 2 weeks ago and today I'm measuring 4 1/2 weeks ahead (36 weeks). So, we're headed for a u/s in 2 weeks just to check on baby's size. She's not concerned about anything but wants to double-check.

I'm a little nervous about it. Any happy thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Hi everyone!

So fun to hear about everyone's virtual shower gifts!! :) Can't wait to receive mine...and for my person to receive hers... :)

I think it would be fun to do a master list of who got what and from whom so that we can put it all in one post once everyone has received their items! :) I'm not sure if anyone is already working on a list like that but if no one is, I'd be happy to compile it (if y'all PM me with what you received and from whom). I guess I COULD go through all the posts from the past couple of weeks...but really, there are too many and I'd get lost...and I'm too lazy! LOL!

Hello All :D

This group does move quickly...

MrsBrownie Niko was face up too. I will admit it was difficult getting him out, however, the epi worked like a champ for me until they shut it off :/ So although there is some "bad" there is good too.

Sunshine I've heard as long as it's under 35lbs you're ok. 18 is nothing, remember there is the baby, placenta and amnio fluid, that's about 18 right there.

jay&erinn You need to tell DH that that drive is too far and he should pass on this one. Also that you have too much stuff to do at your own house.

Sleeping Sleep, what is that? I get up 2-3 times to pee. I too can not get comfortable. Brian has been sleeping in the guest room on the futon cause I wake him up too much at night and he's dozing at work. He sleeps in the bed on Fri & Sat and you can see him dragging on Sat & Sun :(

Birth Plan Didn't have with Niko and won't with this one. We just wanted it to happen and not be disappointed if it didn't go the way we planned. We did want a few things and we just told every nurse that came in to see me and they were great about it.

Exams (down there) Originally my dr's office told me not til 36 weeks, but due to my contractions it may be sooner :/ It sucks cause I can't see to shave down there so I really don't want to be spread on the table. However, I will be for birth too :/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I go to the diabetes dr today thinking I'm doing ok, but I'm not :( My levels are good throughout the day but the morning is f'ing me up. So I have to start breaking my breakfast into 2 parts. When I get up and mid morning. If my morning numbers don't go down by Friday I have to start insulin on Sat :( I still can't believe this is happening, but whatever is best for the baby has to be.
Have a great day.
Sleeping-I have to switch from side to side, which sucks only because I have adjust my pillows and the huge body pillow from between my knees. I keep waking up on my back too and I have never been a back sleeper. DH caught me this morning and asked me if I should change positions and if I was hurting the baby. I should have never told him about not resting/sleeping on your back. He always bugs me about it now. Some nights I pee 3 or more times a night, the last few night tho it's been 1 time or not at all.
Birth Plan-I will probably wait til I find out whether or not I can get an epidural before making one. It will just be for us and I will make the important points know verbally probably (to the nurses and Dr.). I am scared of being labeled difficult. I shouldn't care, I know but I do.
Does anyone know of any exercise ball stretches I can do for my back and hips? I am having alot of trouble with lower back pain and rib pain. I need some kind of relief!
shouldaeloped-We are shower buddies! Mine is on the 29th too.
My doctor was not getting on to me or mad - He just said that I was at 18 lbs gained so far & I needed to watch what I was eating - He told me when I 1st got pregnant that I should try to keep it around 20-25 lbs that way mostly all of that would come off - I am a plus sized girl so I did not need to gain a whole lot.
MrsBrownie
Thanks Nikosmommy for the reassurance on being able to deliver this baby face up without a C-Section.
And Lil_Mrs if you do find those exercises, I would really appreciate it. I'm going to do what I can to get him to turn, but I already know that this is one stubborn baby (just like his dad...or is that me?) I'm trying to stay optimistic that it can be done, but who knows. I guess I will just have to prepare myself for whatever comes! Cute shower invite too.
Nikosmommy ~ Sorry that things with the GD aren't going well. You have been through so much...not that it helps much, but you only have 5 weeks (or is it 6 weeks) left and then it will all be over. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, with a pretty fantastic prize waiting too! Hope things improve for you before Friday.
Exams ~ I also can't see down there (and must admit wiping is sometimes a bit difficult too) and plan to go get myself waxed in the next few weeks. To be honest, I don't know if DH would feel comfortable with cleaning me up...nor am I comfortable with trusting him with a razor around my 'delicate parts.' I figure if I get it done the beginning of May, I should be pretty good for birth too. Now shaving my legs, that's something comletely different, that might have to be done by DH if I can't reach.
And, just because I'm feeling sorry for myself...I so do not want to be working any longer. I dread coming into the office, I get stressed just thinking about it and I'm sure that's the biggest factor to my blood pressure increasing. HR asked me about my plans today and I told her I still hadn't decided. While it would be nice to leave early, it means less money for us sooner and less time to be spent with the baby once he's born. I'm sure I can tough it out, but I just DON'T WANT TOO...what a baby I am eh?
MrsBrownie
04-11-2006, 12:24 PM
Sunshine ~ I'm plus sized too and my M/W just keeps reminding me that the more I put on, the more I have to lose afterwards. I know what she's saying, but I really don't feel like I'm eating much more than I was before. I have to stop eating sugar, cookies, chocolate, etc...and walking more. But it's SO HARD!
ACK...I need to stop whinning! Sorry everyone, I'm just feeling defeated and depressed today, need to snap myself out of this, if only I cold figure out how.
Internal exams – I’m not sure when they start, but I’m leaning against not having them done until I’m in labor.
Baby’s position – For the last week or so It has felt like the baby is head up. I still have time so I’m trying not to worry about it The baby was anterior at one point (back of the head facing my front).. I don’t get a lot of outward kids so I’m thinking he is still anterior.
Nikosmommy – I hope adjusting your morning meal will be enough to regulate your sugar levels.
Pink – I suggest pelvic rocks (tilts) for the lower back pain. I have no suggestions for the ribs. I think the pelvic rocks really work. Before I was PG, I would occasionally have lower back pain. I have to admit that I’ve had less back pain while pregnant then I had before. I have to credit the pelvic rocks
sunshine don't beat yourself up! I'm now at a gain of about 34 lbs.. I stopped keeping track exactly.:rolleyes: I'm don't think I gained anything in the past two weeks, though. I'll find out tommorrow. My dr. only wanted me to gain 30 total. Not gonna happen.
nikos I hope breaking up your breakfast helps! It's frustrating to get results like that when you think you're on the right track.
mrsbrownie Don't worry about complaining! I felt the same way before I left my job. I finally decided it wasn't worth it. But it was a different decision for me cause I'm not going back afterwards, so I didn't have to worry about cutting short time with the baby. It's hard to ignore the stress, but keep your chin up and stay tough. I always tried to think about how sweet my baby would be to take my mind off of the stupid b.s. that was going on at work. Good luck.
registry stalking I'm up to 10 items! It's kinda funny...last night I was considering changing my travel system and stoller around. I researched (again!) for hours. I figured if it wasn't purchase by this weekend, I'd go into BRU and look at everything again. Low and behold, I looked this morning and my travel system was already purchased!
How much time do you all spend in the nursery? Now that we're kinda set up in there, I can't keep myself out. I'm always poking around in there.
Wow that is great jbenny, now you know that you will at least be able to bring the baby home from the hospital. I keep wondering if we have enough high ticket items on our registry. For our wedding, DH’s family complained that we didn’t have expensive stuff on our registry. Since we bought our travel system, the only high tix items ($99 and higher) are the Maclaren Stroller, video monitor (that I want DH to agree to delete since we don’t need it), breast pump, convertible car seat (2) and pack-n-play. Let’s see what is family has to say now.
I don’t spend much time in the nursery now. I may spend more time once the closet is clear and I can start putting stuff away in there. I do peek in just about every day. DH’s cousins stayed in there a little over a week ago. I won’t be able to get comfy in there again until I’ve washed all the bed linens in there and I haven’t done that yet.
We are discussing Birth Plans this weekend in childbirth class. I’ve started a list of things that are important to me. Clearly if there is really a problem I will go with the flow, but if all things are fine, I want the following things. Most of these things just require patience from the OB or MW and nurses
- let umbilical cord stop pulsating before clamping
- allow DH to cut the cord
- wait 1 hr before applying erythromycin to the baby’s eyes
- no IV
- no continuous monitoring
- wait to weigh baby after first breast feeding
- no bottles or pacifiers of any kind given to my baby
- no episiotomy
- family physician will examine the baby. I do not want the neonatologist to examine my baby unless a medical need is clearly evident. (this one stems from some issues at the hospital since the pediatricians were replaced with neonatologists)
DS ~ I completely forgot about DH and cutting the cord...I have to say that's one of the most important things to me and I've already stressed it to the M/W. I think DH could care less (at least he hasn't said anything one way or another) but it's important to me that he do it.
Must add that one to my list...luckily my M/Ws are great and really try to let things happen as naturally as possible.
They won't even tell us the sex once the baby is born (we know already, but still) and it's up to us to discover it on our own...I kind of liked the thought of that (again, if we didn't already know.)
Mrs. Brownie- Sorry. For some reason I thought I remembered seeing more on it but I have this link. All it says is that sitting on all fours is a good position to encourage the baby to turn around. here it is (http://pregnancy.about.com/od/laborbasics/ss/laborpositions_8.htm)
It also goes over other different positions and why they are good during labor. It sounds like you have great m/w so I wouldn't worry about it too much. They are the experts in these sort of things. If you get any good tips from them let me know!
Pink- One stretch that I love is sitting on the edge of my couch with the birth ball between my knees and leaning over it. I just drape over it and stretch my arms to the floor. It feels so good like and entire body stretch. Also DH sometimes gets behind me and massages my lower back while I am like that.
Spending time in the nursery: We both love just peeking in there. I am getting better about not sorting out the clothes once a week. I just love looking at them and thinking of all the little outfits he can wear.
Registry: I haven't been stalking it recently but I will begin again once the invitations are out. We have most if not all of our big ticket items taken care of. I really need my mom to push buying things like burp cloths, diaper genies, diapers, and all the neccesities.
I went to Target and got two of the banded bottom tanks in copper in a blue color and the mossimo tank in brown that you were talking about. I may go back and get this cute gray tank that I can't find online. It's so weird to try it on and then see what it is suppose to look like without the bump! They seems like maternity wear to me!
Crikey this thread moves so fast. I was in twice y'day and yet I still had 2 1/2 pages to read this morning to catch up! :)
Birth plan--DH & I have started writing up things we want/would like to have happen. As we're booked in to have a NCB at a birth centre it's not quite so weird to want a lot of the things we're asking for but if I get transferred to L&D due to something going wrong I still want to be an informed patient who can approve or disapprove stuff offered. Basic stuff we want:
- internal exams to be done in any position I choose/is possible for midwife eg on all fours instead of flat on my back
- would like to birth in the water tub, if I want to when 2nd stage arrives
- let DH receive/catch the baby if possible and/or have him pass me the baby
- let umbilical cord stop pulsating before clamping which means I'm aiming for a physiological 3rd stage and DON'T want the shot of Syntocinen to expel the placenta
- allow DH or me to cut the cord
- wait to do weighing of baby after first breast feeding
- no bottles or pacifiers of any kind given to my baby
- no episiotomy
- perineal massage by midwife
- oral drops for Vit K instead of the injection
- We decline the Hep B vaccination for our newborn
- All medical exams etc of the newborn must be carried out in the presence of either DH or myself unless a medical emergency deems otherwise
Sleeping-Not going too bad! I bought a body pillow which is lovely as it supports my legs, hip and shoulders well. I just have to roll over and switch sides once a night which I normally do when I get up to pee. :)
Spending time in nursery- Not really since we're in a very small unit and have no space for a seperate nursery. The baby's change area, chest of drawers etc is in the spare room/office while the bassinet will be in our room for the first few months/who knows since we will probably give co-sleeping a shot. I often open up the chest of drawers and look through all the baby items we've received so far which is fun and essentially the same concept. :)
***************
We finished out birthing/parenting classes last night! I'm a bit sad that they're all over but we found them soooo helpful!! I really can't recommend my teacher highly enough...unfortunately I'm in Australia and my recc isn't really helpful to any of you! :rolleyes:
Q- Are any of you planning on doing any perineal prep? We bought an Epi-No from our birthing classes and I plan to start using it around 34/35 weeks to help stretch down there. According to studies done it is supposed to be effective in reducing the need for an episiotomy and reduces the risk of tearing as well! www.epi-no.com if anyone wants to check it out.
ETA: Varicose veins-I have a confession to make....I have varicose veins in numbers all over the back of my left knee!! It's terrible because I KNOW it's because I cross my left leg over my right leg. I have to keep stopping myself from crossing my legs!! Anyone else having trouble with this??
lilmrs You look great!
Varicose veins I already had them...darn heredity. My grandma's legs look like a roadmap and I've begun to get little spider veins and one bad one on the back of my right knee. My job didn't help-being on my feet all the time. I tried to stop crossing my legs. My birthday is in Sept, and I plan to ask DH for sclerotherapy. I know quite a few people who have had it done and had great results.
I’ve hit the 30 week milestone. My next milestone is 37 weeks. Can you believe the May 1st is only 2.5 weeks away?
Astrldec – ooh you reminded me of some things to add to my birth plan.
Varicose veins – none yet. They are not common in my family so I’m not expecting them. I am however expecting stretch marks and so far I have none.
Perineal prep – the only prep I do is stretching the area by squatting and keeping the area clean and healthy. I apply baby oil to the area after I shower.
Mystikal – my response is a little late, but I was allowed to sip water if needed.
I hope to see the belly shots when I get home. We are planning to take my 30 weeks picture tonight.
30 weeks! I can't believe it! :D
DS: No, I can't believe May 1 is approaching! Yikes!
LilMrs: Cute belly shot! You look great (and happy)!
Good luck today, Mystical!
Now for some of the QOTD:
Varicose veins: None yet. I do have tiny spider veins on the inside of my right ankle. I think it is from crossing my legs at work all day. I have to get out of this habit!
Birth plan: I haven't given this much thought. I'm sure we'll get a better idea of what we want/don't want after our childbirth classes in May...which reminds me that I have to send my payment!
Sleeping: I'm sleeping well. I usually get up once, twice, or three times a night to pee but it isn't too bad. I found this week that I really need a pillow under my belly to be comfortable.
Spending time in nursery: I peek in the room every time I go upstairs. I still have to touch up one little spot on the wall and paint the inside of the closet. I'm sure once those final touches are complete, I'll spend even more time in the nursery.
(Edited to remove post re: my sweet DH. Felt too personal to have hanging out here forever.)
Amurphy – what a nice reflection by your DH
Peeing at night – I pee right before I get into bed. Then I can usually make it until 5:30 or so. I try not to overdue the fluids late in the evening. When the baby drops I’m sure that will change and I’ll need to start sleeping on the toilet.
Congrats to everyone who's hit the 30 week mark! I def wish I was there at this point!
Birth Plans I think these are a great idea. Last year I didn't know that my doctor's practice and hospital are apparently pretty progressive so I figured the things that they taught us in class and told us were hospital policy (no episiotomies, internal exams in positions comfortable for the mother, they want you to use a birthing bar etc.) were standard so I've been pretty shocked to find out how archaic things can be.
Astledec I think you've got a great list. How did you get your hospital/birthing center to agree to not having any medical exams of your baby done w/o having you or DH present unless necessary? I said above that the hospital I'm at is apparently progressive, but they require the babies to be in the nursery and don't allow parents to observe when they're doing rounds, examining the babies, testing their hearing, etc. The doctors come afterwards to talk to you and the pediatrician came and re-examined my daughter in my room when I had some questions, but routine stuff can't be observed. Non-routine exams can be observed if practicable. This is true even when they wait to have the baby evaluated by your own pediatrician (not the on-call one). Several of my friends at different hospitals experienced the same so I would really appreciate knowing how you were able to persuade them. TIA!
Varicose veins (and I'll add stretch marks)- I have some of the worse genes on both sides of the family. I knew to just expect them when I got pg along with stretch marks. I'm hoping that some of them will dissappear after the baby arrives. I wonder how much that surgery is to remove stretch marks and varicose veins? That may be my next big thing to save up for.
Amurphy- That is a great way to look at things. It's so weird how things work out. I just realized yesterday that my O date for Collin was actually on the due date of our angel baby. It was weird because I was a mess until that month and it was that week that I had an overwhelming feeling that I am finally okay with trying again.
Pink and others with the same due date... Don't forget that the 21st marks 7 calendar months pg and only 2 more to go!!!
Fitzy- I think it depends somewhat on the hospital/birth center. At my birth center they have the baby room in with you and the baby is with you or your DH (birth coach) at all times. Even if there is a difficult surgery they will have the parent scrub in and in a designated seat in the operation room.
~~~~~~~~

So I had a weird thing show up on myspace last night. Someone sent me a bulletin of fortune that totally fit me that was actually pretty specific. And it said that I would meet the love of my life next month. Well since I already have DH I am wondering if that is a sign that the baby may come late next month. I guess we'll see! I usually ignore those sorts of things but it was weird how acurate everything else in there was.

lilmrs Sclerotherapy for varicose veins runs about $300--$500 according to the people I know who have had it done. Some dermatologists do it, plastic surgeons also do it. It's not surgery, but they inject the vein with a solution that dissolves it and makes it disappear.

ds2003
04-12-2006, 12:38 PM
Fitzy – does you hospital allow rooming in with the baby? I think you should demand that the baby stay in your room and that all exams be done in your presence. Ask them to show you the policy in writing and then question it. I suspect that the only reason they enforce that rule is to make it easier on the pediatricians. It is much easier to check the babies in a line-up then to go to each room. I can’t see any acceptable reason why they do it that way. I think that you have the right to refuse examination of your child outside of your presence. I say stick to your guns and demand what you want. Your request is within reason in my opinion.

Hello All :D

Quick Post...

Was in the ER yesterday. I had trouble breathing and they thought I had a clot in my lung (from my clotting disorder) but it's just a pulled muscle in my chest. Brian is home today cause I need a break from lifting Nikolas. I slept until 10 :) I also had a low blood sugar after breakfast but it was also 10:30 so...

Anyway, on the shaving down there thing. When I got huge with Nikolas, I would lay on the bed, put a towel under my butt, and either have Brian hold a mirror or I'd hold a mirror with my feet and shave that way. I too am a little leary of letting Brian shave me down there. It was difficult but it got the job done.

Varicose veins/stretch marks Luckily I don't have any v.v. I use tons of lotion on my belly so there are no s.m. either - yet.

Nursery I'm in there every day with Niko but that doesn't really count.

amurphy That was sweet of your husband to say that. Brian and I hardly ever talk about our 3 angels to each other, I think it's too hard for him and he doesn't want me to get upset.

Well I have to go lay down. Have a good day.

Was having trouble with the boards today ~ anyone else? Oh well, I'm able to get on now (was having major withdrawal.)

Had our final prenatal class last night and did our hospital tour. It was actually an eye-opener as we realized we are getting into the last stretch. It was also VERY full last night, lot's of babies being born at our hospital.

Still waiting for my furniture to come in. I was hoping to get a call today that it had arrived, but so far I haven't heard anything. At least I know it will be in FOR SURE by next Wednesday (or else!)

I've been told by several people today that I look HUGE and that I've definitely dropped. I don't notice a big difference, but having said that, I feel like I've done a million sit ups today. I almost feel like this baby is going to fall out of me...anyone? Not sure what it means, but people at work are betting that I won't make it until my due date.

COONGRATS to all the ladies who have made it to the 30 week mark the last few days. It's a wonderful milestone to pass and I'm so glad that almost everyone has passed it.

Varicose Veins ~ I have a little spider like one on the back of my right knee (seeing a trend here) but that's about it. Now my STRETCH MARKS are starting to get our of control. All of a sudden there are so many more of them, their getting longer and longer and last night I even noticed a couple on my BB's. Not too happy about it, but like someone else posted, I just have to keep reminding myself it's all for BabyB.

Fitzy ~ I agree with what DS said above. Our hospital is great with their policies that the babies are never supposed to leave the sight of the parents unless there is a medical emergency or they need to be taken to the Critical Care Nursery. All exams are done in front of the parents and they are *supposed* to be very good at accomodating the needs and desires of the parents.

We are a little more fortunate because we are using a M/W and not an OB. They try to keep things as calm and as natural as possible and will put off all tests, shots, weighing, etc. until the parents are ready for it (unless there is a problem of course.) We (Me) are feeling super comfortable with our decision to go with a Midwife at the hospital.

Lil_Mrs ~ Thanks for the link, I appreciate it. My M/W gave me a whole bunch of exercises to try and I guess that's about all I can do. I have to get my ball inflated and start using it...I've heard such great things about it, I can't believe I've put it off for so long. And GREAT belly shot by the way, you look great and very happy too.

AMurphy ~ You do have a sweet DH. It's amazing the things they say and come up with sometimes. It's a great way of looking at things.

Perineal ~ DS you put baby oil on every day...I have a hard time wiping after I pee, let alone get my hand further up there to apply baby oil.

On a serious note though ~ does the oil help? I guess it must or you wouldn't be applying it, right? I would love to do massage, but I don't think I'm coordinated (or flexible) enough to do it. Must look into it though.

Just because I'm thinking about it [b]KEGEL REMINDER. DO THOSE KEGEL EXERCISES NOW...and if you think about it, start practicing your breathing too.[b] Our prenatal instructor suggested we practice both exercises (although not at the same time) at a red light. It's long enough to simulate the time of a real contraction (two minutes.)

havent been able to get on here ALL day :(

anyways would like to do shout-outs but i've got too much to catch up on.
i'll just answer some of the QOTD's i can remember:)

sleeping so far so good. i dont have to wake up in the middle of night (thank God!) to use the bathroom. now in the beginning it was definitely the opposite.

varicose veins & stretch marks dont have any. i use a lot of concentrated cocoa butter and oil on my belly and boobs. but i've still got 8wks to go so who knows....i keep panicking about them.

nursery i'm so excited cos when i got home from work yday dh had set up the dresser! and the room was cleaned up - we finished the painting over the week-end and the chair rail is up...its taking shape. last night he put up the crib. now i just want to be in there ALL the time...i so dont want to be at work!

showers our church is doing one on the 23rd of this month and then my friend is doing one on May 7th. but i dont know what the status is on the friends one....i'm stressing on that one cos i know she hasnt even sent out the invites yet and that's annoying. i hate last minute things and i know some of the people being invited are the same. oh well. not much i can do about that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
update on me had my doc appt this morning. blood pressure was good. up 1 pound (for a total of 20). i was so thinking it was going to be more cos i've felt so much hungrier these past few days. but was quite relieved. he measured my belly (i'm at 32wks) and checked baby's position (head down) and the heart beat was good and strong (160 bpm). he estimated that baby will be in the 6 pound range cos of my size and the fact that i was a smaller baby (little over 5 pounds or so). Next appt. 26 April
and then 2 wks after that he will do a sonogram to check on the baby's size.
milestones left--
for us, our next milestone will be 35 weeks (May 15) because that's when we had Connor and we'd really like to NOT have Dawson before then! :)
(though I'll silently be celebrating on May 8th when we reach 34 weeks, which is when lung development should be at the stage where if I DO go into labour, they will not attempt to stop/delay it at that point in order to get me on steroids.)
Then, the next milestone will be 37 weeks for us -- May 29th!
******
Busy prepping the basement to paint this week. Big, huge job. Today I was washing baseboards and surfaces and removing switch plates, etc. I've been taking frequent breaks, so I'm feeling pretty good. Right now DH is doing some masking and I think I may join him for a while before he goes to work. Tomorrow: Primer goes on..... and perhaps the first coat of paint (yeah, I'm probably dreaming).
Once the basement painting is finished, we'll be buying a nice storage cabinet down there and setting it up next week so that I can begin moving more office stuff down there to clear out the nursery.
Oh...and we have someone interested in our Blazer! they're meeting DH (@ Dh's work) this afternoon. I hope they're serious and offer to buy it - I think they are, because they are coming from a city 1.5 hours from here to see it! So, I *might* be getting a phone call from DH this afternoon saying I'll have to pick him up from work late tonight (which will mean 11 p.m. or so, and bringing connor with me)... It'll be a pain to be down to one vehicle for a week or two until FIL can drive it out here from BC...but that just means we'll get our minivan sooner than later! :) And THAT means, setting up Dawson's car seat base! :)
Varicose veins/stretch marks I have mucho stretch marks, but no varicose veins yet. My mom never got the varicose veins so I'm hoping I don't, either. For anyone thinking about the varicose vein surgery in the future, my aunt had them and she had the surgery done and is very happy with the results.
sunshineab622 I got my shower gift today. Thank you!!! :D I'll get a picture of everything and post it soon, but I got a little toy, an outfit, flannel crib sheet, a sheet saver, and a wearable blanket for the baby to sleep in so we don't have to worry about loose blankets. :D
Doctor appt had my doctor appointment today halfway through my GTT. We talked about a lot of things - weight gain (I'm up 27 pounds :eek:. The good thing is my gain has tapered off in the last month or so, but she wants me to keep an eye on it.) We also talked about whether I want pain meds during labor, who will be allowed in the room, etc. It made it feel so much more real. My next appointment is with my back up doctor who I have never met before, and I can't even pronounce the name. Don't even know if it's a he or a she. *sigh* I really hope she's female, because I'm just not comfortable with male doctors for some reason. :confused:
I should get the results of my 3 hour tomorrow. I wasn't even close with my levels at the one hour, so I hope this one is a lot better.
Sending out invitations-Some of you seem worried that your invites haven't gone out. My shower is April 29th and invites are going out this week. Is that cutting it close? We usually receive/send invites out about 2 weeks before an event. Now I'm worried that people will feel like they are getting them at the last minute. My sister has 2 jobs and hasn't had time to send them out yet.
Tired/Pain-I am so tired today. I tried to take a nap but only dozed and then my mom called so I just got up, I have one more errand to run today after 3 pm. My ribs hurt so bad when I lay down it takes a while to get comfortable and asleep. I went and borrowed a pump for my exercise ball so I can inflate it some more and start doing stretches. I was dying last night with rib/back pain trying to stretch but my exercise ball was too squishy and my pump is missing.
Pink and others with the same due date... Don't forget that the 21st marks 7 calendar months pg and only 2 more to go!!!
Woo-hoo! Thanks for pointing that out. Today I was thinking am I 7 months yet????
Forgot to add I was already covered in stretch marks, bad genes here too but I don't have any on my belly yet!!!! My boobs only have very light ones. It's my hips, thighs and butt that already had them.
good afternoon everyone! it's amazing how upsetting it can be when the boards are down! I didn't know how to waste my time appropriately!
stretch marks- none yet and no varicose veins either. but me legs just look disgusting. DH likes to tease me that I have a stretch mark somewhere that I can't see. . then when i twist myself all over trying to see it, he tells me he's just kidding. mean.
invitations- my first shower in on the 29th and invitations went out 1-2 weeks ago. just about everyone that rsvp'd already has plans for that day :rolleyes: so I am trying to see if we can move it to the 30th. my sister is coming in from Uruguay for it so I can't move it too much but I know there will be a much better turn out on sunday than saturday. I have to say I was pretty upset about it yesterday though. good thing I have two other showers to focus on!
tired- yes. but I can't sleep. I blame DH and his snoring but I think it's really me more than anything.
dizziness- anyone with any experince here? for the past 2 days I have had several minor dizzy spells. two of them while laying down in the morning and the other two while sitting at my desk. I am drinking plenty of fluid and just had my bp checked last Thursday- normal. low, actually. any ideas?
nothing else much going on. . plan on working on the nursery this weekend, minor BH contractions, feeling as decent as could be expected. just counting down the days. . 69 days left today. hee hee. (sorry if that was in poor taste. I'm feeling a little silly right now!)
hope everyone is having beautiful weather like we are here in good ole Virginia! upper 70's and sunny! spring- here we come!!!
Rooming in Our hospital encourages rooming in and discourages use of the nursery. Neither Rachel or Wyatt was ever out of our presence (usually both of us) while we were in the hospital. With Rachel, they did the hearing test in the nursery but DH went. With Wyatt they did the hearing test in the hosp room.
sleeping I am regularly waking at 2 or 3 am to pee and then can't go back to sleep. Meredith has been especially active lately which keeps me awake too. I having been waking up DH though ;)
Nikosmommy I'm sorry to hear about your ER trip! Take it easy please.
Pink and other June 21 due date buddies I have considered myself 7 months pg since 28 weeks! No matter how you count it--we are getting closer by the day! I wonder who of our little due date group is going to go first!? (I have been 3 days late both times so it probably won't be me!)
Our 5th anniversary is the 21st. DH keeps asking what I want to do and I don't have any good answers. I am not really in the mood for a long "romantic" dinner since I can't have wine or eat much at a sitting these days. And I can't even stay awake much past 9:30 or 10!! Maybe I will suggest a movie or a play or something. Sounds so lame for our 5 year! After Meredith arrives, maybe we can do something more exciting.
ds2003, Mrs. Brownie & LilMs0702Thanks for the feedback. This is why I found this topic interesting - again, I figured some things would be standard so I thought there may be some way around the policy. The hospital promotes rooming-in, prefers that husbands/labor coaches "scrub in" for procedures (if possible) for moral support and was quite intense about security (my roommate was actually a nurse on the floor and wasn't allowed to enter the nursery to observe/get her baby b/c she wouldn't be entering in a professional capacity).
I actually read the policy last year standing outside the nursery. You can have the baby re-examined in your room, but only "cleared" doctors and nurses are allowed in the nursery and the babies have to be examined two times a day in the nursery in the presence of at least 3 individuals - one of whom must be the head nurse on duty. I'm pretty sure it's a stipulation of the hospital's liability insurance policy. Gotta love litigeous NY. I guess it's a trade-off, my doctor is a high-risk one so a birthing center or using a midwife exclusively isn't feasible.
I think it's terrific that you all have these options.
I have a doctor's appt tomorrow, maybe I'll ask about it again.
Shoulda, You might want to let your OB know... you might be developing pre-ecclampsia. My OB said dizziness and headaches are the first signs, closely followed by swelling.
Appt went well today... h/b is still 140, BP is good, no weight gain (:D) and baby is head down with his back facing my left side.
Next appt is April 26.
pink I do think you're cutting it a bit close, but I'm a planner, I don't know if everyone's like that. I would give people at least 4-6 weeks to reserve the date and get a gift. I sent out my wedding invites super early. I'm just nuts that way.
shouldaeloped-I posted about this a few pages back. I plan to ask the Dr. about it on Friday. My BP has been fine and I stay pretty well hydrated too so I don't know what the problem is.
My sister bought stamps today. She better send them out tomorrow! It's almost all family so hopefully they will come. She wanted to send them like 4 weeks early and I told her I thought that was to early, stupid me!
updating on my post from earlier today --
we have tentatively sold our Blazer! DH is just waiting for the guy - and his wife & 8 mos old daughter - to come back to DH's work with a certified cheque... and complete a lien check on the vehicle, which will come up totally good. Then we're down to a 1 car family until we figure out exactly when FIL can get our Chevy Uplander out to us later this month.
And then we'll have the vehicle we'll be taking Dawson home in this spring! :)
But a part of me is also sad that I'll probably never see my blazer again. I loved her, my first official mommy-mobile that I've had since Connor was about 7 weeks old. :(
Oh well... guess we're moving on to minivan-land here....
Thank you Connorsmommy. I received my shower gift today. It is the softest and cutest AIO (all-in-one) cloth diaper I have so far. It is similar to this but has a little more blue than the lime green. It is too bad you can reach out and feel it from the picture.
There is also an extra snap in soaker. I love it and so does DH. He definitely accepted it knowing that I didn't buy it (DH and my dad told me back in February that I could not buy anymore cloth diapers. Also included was something for me....2 lip balms and body lotion.
Hi Ladies- hope everyone has had a good day. The weather has been beautiful around here this week, so we've been outside for about 4 hours a day. Mia's so tired by the time we get her in bed that she's been sleeping for 12 straight hours at night and still napping during the day. It's been great. I wish it could be spring all year around.
connorsmommy: Congrats on selling the car. I LOVE my minivan. It's so easy to get Mia in and out of. I was always hitting my head on the door or ceiling of the accord I had, and DH's suburban is too high for me to get her in easily (and in the winter, I've slipped a few times getting her in). It's so great now.
stretch marks: I don't have any on my belly, but do on my hips:rolleyes:
Rooming in: Our hospital lets us do what we want. They strongly encourage you to keep the baby all day, but will allow you to send the baby back to the nursery at night if you want. If you're BFing, they'll wake you every 3 hours to feed the baby and then take the baby back after if you want. The first night in the hospital I sent Mia to the nursery around 10:00 pm so I could sleep (I had been awake for 2 days in labor). They woke me every 3 hours, and then left her with me starting at 7:00 am for the day. The next night I kept her with me.
amurphy: I often wonder the same about my angel babies. I saw a TV show a long time ago and the mother had had 2 miscarriages and was pregnant again. She had a dream where she was talking to a little boy. The little boy told her that he had tried to come to her two other times, but it just wasn't the right time. That this time they would finally meet, and he would be her little boy. It was so long ago that I don't even remember the show, but that always stuck with me, even though I was pretty young (early teens), and had no way to relate. Now I know why- it's definately something I think about now.
I have a question? How long does it take to breastfeed each session?
jay&erinn
04-12-2006, 07:51 PM
maryanne: Depends on the baby. Mia would nurse for 40 minutes to an hour every 2-3 hours. However, she didn't suck very well, fell asleep often and I had a low supply. My cousin could BF in 10-15 minutes at each session. You could literally hear the baby trying to keep up with her letdown- gulping as much milk as possible. I think we're on each end of the spectrum. Average would probably be 20-30 minutes.
maryanne I agree that it depends on your baby. I hear of babies who take an hour for each nursing. My DD was a very fast nurser. When she woke up at night, I could get up, feed her, change her (if needed) and be back in bed in less than 20 minutes. She also usually only nursed on one side each session - I just alternated for each feeding.
Failed my 3 hour. :( I'm so upset. I know it's not the end of the world, and that it could be worse, but this is hard for me because I'm normally a very healthy person. ::sigh:: They are calling me back next week to set up an appointment with the dietician, and I have to see my doctor every week from here on out. Mystikal - I'm so sorry to hear you failed your GTT. But on the bright side of things, we don't have too much longer to go, right? Hopefully just some diet modifications can work for you?
stretch marks - well, none yet that I didn't already have! Keeping my fingers crossed that none pop up. I should have invested in cocoa butter stock!
Here's a question for those of you that wear contacts - is anyone else having vision problems? My contacts are becoming almost unbearable to wear for the entire day, and even with my glasses, my vision is all wonky. I've heard of this happening while pregnant, but I hesitate to go to see an eye doctor if this will clear up after delivery.
Mystikal: Sorry about the test. Hopefully you can control it with diet alone. Good luck at the dietician.
maryanne: I used to pump for 20 minutes at a time (with a double pump). I guess if I had a single pump, it would have taken double that time.
orange: I'm jealous you had such a fast nurser. I'm hoping this baby will be a little faster than Mia was.
Just a quick answer... I don't wear contacts, but I'm living proof that eyesight CAN change from pregnancy and postpartum hormones.
I had laser eye surgery (PRK) back in March 1998. I was 22 and I spent a FORTUNE on the surgery b/c I wanted it so bad (equivalent of 4 months of take home pay for me at the time) But it was the best thing I ever did - follow up appointments put me at 20-10 vision, which is actually twice as good as "20-20" (what that means is I could see at 20 feet, people with vision classified as "perfect/20-20" could only see at 10 feet. To say my laser eye surgery was a success is an understatement.
However, during late pg with Connor...and for the next several months, I noticed my nearsightedness in my left eye especially was starting to come back. It got to the point that I had to squint at the TV to read the satellite guide from 10-15 feet away.
Finally when Connor was about 14 months, I was able to admit that maybe my vision HAD changed somewhat over the past 1.5 years. I went to the eye dr. and found out that my right eye was still near perfect (honestly, if both my eyes were like my right, things would be great)...but my left eye went back to half as bad as it used to be.
So, for the past 2 years, I've been wearing glasses. :(
But... plan is, once Dawson has weaned, I will wait an additional 4-6 mos (just so *I* am satisfied that my hormones are completely back to normal) and then will go in and get Lasik on my left eye only (assuming my right eye stays the same again).
Anyway, long winded way to say taht contacts or NO contacts, vision can indeed change during pregnancy.
vision: I don't wear contacts either, but I do wear glasses because I'm nearsighted. I only wear them to drive, sitting in a class, etc. I have noticed with both pregnancies that my vision is not as good. However, luckily it seemed to improve the first time around. We'll see this time around. I don't think it's recommended to have anything done with glasses or contacts until a few months after birth.
I've had horrible insomnia the past few nights. I've been up until around 1:00am and I have to get up by 6:30 on the days I work. Right now it's a little after 7:00 and I've been awake for 45 minutes and I don't have to work today. My brain is exhausted, but my body just can't sleep. Unfortunately DH was on call last night and only has had about 2 hours of sleep too. We're going to be quite a pair by the evening.
Vision – I no longer wear contacts but I do wear glasses and I have not noticed a change in vision. Gina – your vision could go back to normal after birth so changing your prescription now may be a wasted effort. If you think your wonky vision is a hazard than I would reduce high risk activities (like driving) or consider getting a new prescription even the risk of it being temporary. Talk to your ob/mw about it and see what is suggested.
I am so looking forward to this 3 day weekend. I really hope DH and I get into the nursery and finally clean out the closet. I also want to wash all the bed linen and vacuum/sweep the floor. Another important thing is to get our bedroom straight. We want to rearrange it before the baby gets here. Our current bedroom isn’t the largest in the world but it is the largest we’ve ever had and we are doing a poor job of utilizing the space. I want to put the PnP in the bedroom and possible a chair for nursing at night. We also want to buy a headboard. I hope most of this can get done this weekend.
Hello All :D
Quick Post and then Niko & I are off to play date.
Mystikal I'm sorry you failed your 3 hour. In my first class they explained that even though we are healthy, it is just the pg. Our hormones are preventing the insulin from getting into our blood stream. It will go away after you give birth.
Yes there will be diet adjustments, but they really aren't that hard (now that I've been doing them over a week). Please email me if you have any questions. Also, don't go buying all the sugar free stuff like I did :rolleyes: You want low carb, like the Breyers low carb Rocky Road that's made with Splenda. That is SO GOOD :D Also, you don't want stuff with Sweet & Low cause that gets to the baby. Splenda is the best.
And if you like peanut butter, then you're good to go. They told me to put it on everything :/ I like it, but not that much :D
Anyway, we're off to playdate. BBL.
Stretch marks: No
Veins: oh yeah.. my mother has them really bad.. so it is so depressing to look at…
Breastfeeding: Just took our class last night and they said “each baby is sooo different”..
Mystikal: Sorry about the test… keep your chin up.
Gina: I wear contacts and I have not had issues and my eyes are really senstive for the most part… but my dr. did say eye sight can change during pregnancy.
Baby Lust: Well Dr. said that my right leg/groin pain is round ligament pain....most likely.. oye!
Shaq: You and I are due date buddies… and I have gained about 22 lbs… so I am with you… I hope I have a small baby.. but since DH and I were close to 9 lbs something tells me it will not happen.. :D
We are a chatty bunch!
Nikos: I'm glad to hear that you are taking it easy and letting your DH help out with Niko. And I'm so relieved that you had a pulled muscle and not a clot. That's scary!
DH and I don't talk much about my miscarriage either. I know it was very hard on him and he did his best to hide those feelings to support me. I hate that he felt he had to do that but I also know that his support was invaluable.
Pink: I'm doing pretty well with sleeping/fatigue etc., but the aches and pains of pregnancy have kicked in this past week. My RLP has reared its ugly head--mostly when I'm in bed and trying to change positions.
Lawyerwifemom: I really like the name you picked for your daughter. The post in which you referred to her by name made me smile. Meredith is such a pretty name but one that I hadn't paid much attention to in the past.
Connorsmom: Congratulations on selling the Blazer. It's funny how attached we can get to our cars, isn't it?
Mystical: Sorry to hear about the GTT results. I'm sure you will manage just fine!
I had a doctor's appointment last night. Up ANOTHER 2 pounds. She didn't say a word about it though. I did show here the food & exercise journal I've been keeping and she said I'm doing a great job. Then she mentioned that she gained 50+ with both her children despite her efforts to eat healthy and stay active. So, I guess my fate is sealed. I'm going to keep tracking my food intake & exercise but will stop dreading the scale. (Although I still can't figure out how I keep gaining but still fitting in the maternity pants I bought at the very beginning of my pregnancy!)
Baby is still head down with his or her feet jammed under my right rib. Ouch. I'm measuring 30cm and the baby's heartrate is still 138/140.
Travel: DH and I are supposed to fly to Washington in two weeks for my cousin's wedding. My doctor won't give me a note to okay my travel b/c of liability concerns--even though she thinks it is fine for me to fly. (Stupid malpractice crisis!!!) DH did contact Delta and they don't have a policy about restricting pregnant women from flying...although I want to do more digging because I don't completely trust the customer service rep we spoke to. Have any ROs traveled during the third trimester?
contacts ~ I wear them and haven't had any problems, but my OB has told me that your eyes can change shape and your vision can temporarily change during pregnancy. Most eye doctors won't give you a new prescription during pregnancy - at least around here. If your vision is blurry or you're having black spots you need to contact your doctor right away as it could be due to high BP.
Mystikal- I am so sorry that you failed your 3-hour. At least you have a couple of support buddies here. You guys can share tips and help eachother get through it.
Amurphy- I forget when the cut-off is for most airlines regarding travel, but if you are traveling before that cut off you can get a note from your doctor that says when your due date is and nothing else. That way she is still covered and you may be able to go on your trip.
Vision- I haven't noticed any problems but I never wore contacts or glasses either.
Graffy/Orange- I really like that PnP organizer. If you don't mind me asking where is it from?
SarahnCraig- I haven't said anything to Dh about Mother's Day. He's a sweetheart so I'm sure I'll get a little something. I already told him that I want a pendant or ring for next year's Mother's Day. However my mom is being so great and supportive I want to do something really special for Mother's Day this year. Anyone have any ideas (besides giving her a grandchild to spoil the crap out of :p)??
~~~~~

So I pulled up to the drive way last night and M's car was there. I pulled a U-ey and went to Sam's Club to get gas and read my magazine in the parking lot. Unfortunately he was still there. Then he starts telling us a story about a "some homeless freak." So I ask him where he's living.... "Oh I'm staying at so and so's it's a really nice community." Then I ask if he is living there or staying there because there is a difference. Of course he starts tripping over his words at this point and I ask him what makes him better than this homeless guy. As far as I know the only difference is that M found someone else to mooch off of. He rambled for another couple of minutes and took off. It felt so good to call him out on his crap!! Sorry- that was the highlight of my night.

mystikal- sorry about your 3 hour. I know you must be incredibly frustrated.

quick question- anyone else with their baby in Breech Position? she is has been breech since my first ultrasound so I am not sure that she's thinking about switching anytime soon. I was just wondering if anyone else had the possibily of a c-section looming. . I can't decide how I feel about it. the majority of the time I think it doesn't matter, just get this baby to be safely. the rest of the time, I am rather sad about the possibility. guess it won't matter when it comes right down to it.

Morning ladies...so much to catch up on.

Mystikal ~ I'm sorry to hear that you failed the 3-hour GTT. But like someone else mentioned, it's only while you are PG and hopefully the diet will help control it for you. Keep reminding yourself that it's all for the babe (that's what I keep saying about the stretch marks and weight gain anyways.)

Connorsmommy ~ Congrats on selling the Blazer and hopefully the new one comes sooner rather than later.

Eyesight ~ I've noticed that my eyes have gotten progressively worse throughout my pregnancy. I've never worn contacts, but do wear glasses and I've noticed that without them, I can't see ANYTHING. I was advised not to see the doctor though until after the baby is born...hoping that it will return to normal (or as close to as possible.) But I do need a new set of glasses, so I will be heading to see her sooner rather than later I think!

Breech Position ~ As I wrote yesterday, my baby is head down (so not breech) but he's facing the wrong way. I don't think it means a C-section yet, but the M/W did say that it COULD lead to a hard labour with back labour. I *must* get this baby to turn, I so don't want to have to go through back labour. Shoulda ~ Just like there are exercises to get him to turn, I'm sure there are exercises to do to try and get her to flip...or you could possibly consider a versioning. I'm sure I've seen posts about it in the Pregnancy Section.

Mother's Day ~ I was told the same thing as SarahnCraig that since the baby wasn't HERE, I didn't qualify for Mother's Day. In the same breath he managed to tell me that the baby would be here just in time for father's day though...haha, I'm so not impressed. He did ask me when Mother's Day was the other day, so maybe (not holding my breath though) he is thinking or planning something.

I think that's it for me. Still feel like I've done a million sit-ups, had alot of pain (which I'm assuming is RLP) last night when trying to move positions and EVERY TIME I get up from sitting I have to run to the bathroom...baby is definitely sitting right on my bladder.

Have a great long weekend everyone, I'm gearing up for one of my favourite meals of the year (Easter Dinner.) DH's famiily is Ukranian and we always have the most wonderful foods at Easter...my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Graffy, you're welcome! I'm sorry I was so late with getting things ordered. I hope the book is useful - I don't have that one but I've heard good things about it. I know that I spent a lot of time reading baby books during my DD's first few days at home - you get so focused on pregnancy and birth and then all the sudden he baby is here and there are so many new questions!

Mother's day My DH gave me a small gift and a mushy card when I was pg with DD. He got me some chocolately treats that I like (for right then) and a six-pack of my favorite beer to enjoy after the baby was born. I got him a drill bit set he had been wanting for Father's day that year.

Breech Thankfully he is already head-down and ready to go. My MW said that if they are head-down by 32 weeks, they usually stay that way but if they are not there is still plenty of time to turn. THere are tricks you can do to try to help the baby turn - laying on a board with your feet up, shining a light down low, etc.

Wow, this thread moves so fast, but it's so good to hear from everyone and how they're doing. Just an update from me...I had an appointment yesterday and everything looked good. BP 100/58, weight hadn't changed from 2 weeks ago, but total I'm up about 28 pounds. The doctor keeps saying he'd like to clone me. He's kind of a dipwad. :rolleyes: And speaking of the doctor, he considers me to be 35 weeks! I guess they're still going by my 20 week ultrasound which had me measuring 2 weeks ahead with a due date of May 19th. That makes me nervous because I really want to go into labor without being induced, but if they think I'm due May 19th but the baby decides to wait 'til my original due date or later I'm afraid they'll pressure me to induce. This all has my head spinning a bit.

But in other news...Our second prenatal class was last night which included a hospital tour. The maternity ward seems pretty nice. You do everything in one room, plus they do all the postbirth baby stuff in the room, too. They allow rooming in, there is a jacuzzi down the hall, they have birthing balls, if you don't have an epidural they pretty much let you move around and labor/push in whatever position you choose. Pretty good security measures it seems. It's a small town, so there was just one wee baby in the nursery last night. I think I would feel terrible leaving my baby in the nursery, but people keep telling me, "oh, you'll just want to sleep, you'll definitely want them to take the baby away." We'll see, but behind their backs I roll my eyes when people say things like that.

Now to attempt some SOs/QOTDs:
Mystikal: The next few weeks may not be easy, but just try to remember that, whatever you have to do, it'll be the best thing for the baby. (((hugs)))
Connorsmommy: Hope the car sale goes without a hitch!
Lil_Mrs: That pnp organizer is from Baby Depot, but it's by Graco, so I would think you could get it just about anywhere.
Orange: Yep, I just know I'm gonna have a total deer in the headlights thing going on once we bring the baby home. It'll be so nice to have something to refer to.

Arg, my boss is back...better make this quick...

Baby's position: My doc said he'd do an internal at the next appointment to check position, but surely they can do that without an internal??? I'm actually seeing a different doc next time, so hopefully he won't do that. I mean, as far as I'm concerned I'll only be 35 weeks then which is really early for an internal. I would really like to know the baby's position though. I *think* it's head down, but I don't really know. But shoulda, I've read that there are positions that you can do that will encourage your baby to turn. And I've also read that a lot of babies will turn by 36 weeks, so you still have time.
Contacts: I wear 'em, and went back to glasses for a while because they were driving me nuts, but that was because it was a new brand. Went back to my Acuvues and all is well. Although my eyes definitely tire out come evening, but then so does the rest of me.
Stretch marks: Not yet, but I keep waiting. How my tummy can get any tighter than it is without them popping up I can't imagine.
Varicose veins: Nope. My grandma has them bad, but she had 13 children so I don't think she counts...
Mother's Day: Doubtful. DH isn't so great in the "remembering to buy gifts" department.:rolleyes: It would surprise me if he thought of it, but we'll see.
Weird dreams: It seems like every night they get stranger. Last night I dreamed the baby had 9 fingers on one hand. And I'm constantly dreaming about having troubles with breastfeeding. Last night I tried to nurse the cat because for some reason the dr. said I'd have to do that before I could nurse a baby. Of course, I was unsuccessful with the cat (not to mention paranoid of the teeth), so I was unable to nurse the baby. Weird. Starting a successful nursing relationship is one of my biggest concerns, so I guess it makes sense that it's always manifesting itself in my dreams. But nursing a cat? OY.

Breech – I thought the baby was breech last week. I asked my Bradley instructor about it and she said it is still early and not to worry. Since then I think he’s moved back to head down.

Mother’s Day – I’m not sure what DH will do. I think he bought me flowers last year and we were not even pregnant, just trying.

Hi Mommies. Hanging in there, MD told me she was going to induce me probably on May 24 which puts me at 39 weeks but maybe sooner if this god-awful stent in my kidney gets clogged up. Still can barely function because I need a bathroom every 10 minutes. It's driving me crazy that I can't take nice long walks with DS now that the nice weather is here. I feel like such a whiny pregnant lady lately and that's not my personality.

Vision-no problems with both pregnancies and I wear contacts all the time.

Stretch marks-I bragged and bragged that I had a perfect belly with no linea or stretch marks with DS, then I got about 4 vv very low on my bikini line at 38 weeks. No extra veins so far this time but I'm keeping my mouth shut!

Mother's Day-My DH needs a little push. I emailed him a website with these adorable Mommy Bracelets that you put each child's name on a separate strand. They are very reasonable and he better pull it off. It is lorilynndesigns.com if anyone is interested......

Mother's Day- I think all of the prego moms to be should celebrate it - They sell "mom to be" mothers day cards at the store - Hello ?!?!?! Maybe I need to email your hubbys & let them know ... j/k ! Maybe next year would be your official "1st mothers day" but you should still celebrate this year cause you still are officially a mom

Stretch marks- I had them already from 1st preg. but have not gotten any new ones ... yet - I am pretty sure I probably will with 9 wks left to go.

Weird dreams: Mine was totally wierd last night - I had a dream I was going to a dinner party & could not find anything to wear - Everything I put on was way too small - I kept trying on different outfits - some of them were my clothes that I have now & some I was trying to borrow from a "skinny" friend ... :eek: :rolleyes: don't ask

KAEDENS MOMMY: I almost choked on my watermellon.. from your post about us being next... :eek:

Amurphy: traveling...I went to Florida about 2 weeks ago and I was just about 30 weeks and my dr. seemed ok w/ it. I must say going up and down the baby was squirmy but that is all the insight I have on flying.. sorry not much of help... doesn't that RLP get ya everytime.. my kills my right upper thigh area...

Mothers Day: Have not thought about it (celebrating for me that is).. probably will not... I guess I am superstitious that way... my mom... I have no clue what to get her... still thinking...

Breech: sorry Mrs. Brownie...no helpful info..

Sunshine... LOL.. you crack me up...

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on my airplane travel question. I checked out both the Delta and American Airlines Web sites and they don't restrict travel until 4 weeks before your due date so I'm good to go. The flight is only an hour so I'm not too worried about it. Now if we could just ensure that Delta doesn't go out of business before the end of the month....

Graffy: I would think your doc could get a good idea of the baby's position without doing an internal. My doc used the location of the baby's heartbeat to determine that my baby was head down w/ his or her back to my stomach. Then she felt all around my belly to confirm. Maybe she is full of crap...but she seemed pretty certain. :rolleyes:

Mother's day: The question of whether a mom-to-be should get gifts came up two years ago when our friends were expecting their first child. She thought she should get a gift and the husband thought she shouldn't. I think I remember my DH agreeing with the husband. That's fine. I have many Mother's Days ahead of me.

Shower news: Just got word that my work shower will be the first Monday of May! I'm not looking forward to being the center of attention, but I'm sure it will be a fun event. My two good friends at work are organizing it, which puts me at ease. I know that won't do anything corny. I sent my MIL a few location suggestions for my family & friends shower. I'm washing my hands of the planning process now. I'm sure she is more than capable of planning...since she'll have my Mom and sister to run things by. They'll protect me!

Graffy-thanks for the info on the organizer. We have a PnP with a bassinet/changing table feature set up in the living room and I think that will come in handy.

Weird Dreams- I also have a lot of weird nursing dreams. For those of you who have seen King Kong- Do you remember when they wake up and they are in like a swamp and those things that look like uncircumcized peniss (plural?) with teeth attack them? Yeah... Those things come out of my breast pump to suck the milk in my dream!!! I didn't even know where I got that image from until I saw the movie again at home and I yelled "That's the thing that comes out of my breast pump!!"
Last night was actually a really peaceful dream. I took the baby for a walk by the library and there was a trail by the river and I walked along that and found a tree to sit under and some woman walked by and told me how peaceful we looked. I think I had that one because I am trying to come up with images to picture during labor. I might have to draw that out and keep it with me!

Oh Amurphy- I think you answered my question! My Ob hasn't said anything about the baby's position and I was wondering HTH you guys could tell if the baby was breech without an u/s.

Baby's Position ~ I just read this and wanted to chime in on how my MW find the baby's position. She actually feels around my belly to locate the direction. From there she can find the two ends (a little difficult now that his head is so far in my pelvis, but she did it) and then wiggles them back and forth.

She said that the head will move back and forth (floppy is the term I think she used) with her movements and the bum stays pretty stationary and that's how she was able to determine our baby was head down.

As for how he was turned, she had a VERY hard time finding the H/B via doppler. She said it usually happens when babies are back to back with the mother's, as their hands and legs will usually interfer with the doppler picking up the H/B. (Actually terrified me for a few minutes when she couldn't find it, but eventually she was able to get a very faint H/B...what a relief) But she also said that the movements I was feeling (sharp knees poking out my belly) were an indication he was facing the wrong way.

I don't know if my M/W will actually do an internal until I go overdue, must ask at my next visit. I think it's more what I'm comfortable with. I would like to have them done to know where I am, but at the same time I'm worried I will get discouraged if there isn't any progress...will play that one by ear.

Ryan ~ I can't believe it!! But, look at how many of us are already planning to be induced within 4-5 weeks!! BTW, no more mentioning food in here girl - I still eat Swedish Fish once a week and now I have to buy a watermelon on the way home. :D

Position: This baby's been head down since my 20 week ultrasound. However, C-Section is more of a possibility this time than with Mia because of the cord abnormality. I guess the two vessel cord can make the baby not tolerate labor very well. We just have to wait and see. Even though labor was really long last time, my recovery was pretty easy, so I was hoping for another vaginal delivery. It's not something I like to think about, but if it has to be done, so be it.

Mothers Day: I'm not sure if DH will do anything or not. I'd like something little, but we need to watch our money. Between maternity leave, me going back to school part time and the never ending work on the house, there's not much left for fun stuff.

Hello again :D

You guys are super duper busy today!!

amurphy I took an hour flight 2.5 weeks ago and except for entertaining Niko I was fine. USAir doesn't let you fly 7 days before your due date. They said I needed a note ok'ing me to fly, but they never checked it.

Mother's Day When we were pg with Niko Brian had flowers sent to the house. We still didn't have a name and Brian and I had this joke that we were going to name him after Brian's favorite car, BMW X5. On the card he had them sign it, Your son, Exfive as a joke. I know the people in the florist must have thought we were crazy :D

Weird dreams I had one last night that my moms group had a shower for me at an Indian restaurant. It was weird cause I don't eat spicy food, I have no idea where there is one around here, and there were people there I didn't know.

Breech He was last time and I can't tell. The nurse told me the other day if they find the h/b under your bellybutton then they are head down, above they are breech. However, for my last u/s they found the h/b under my bellybutton line and he was breech. So....

Turning a breech (IMO) I swear by this, it worked with Nikolas. Get on all 4's and lay your head & chest down and stick your butt as high in the air as possible. I did that when he was breech and I literally felt him turn, and it hurt (I was pretty far along so he was already big). If it doesn't work right away, do it as long as you can each day. Now I'm no dr, but it really did work with him and I'm going to do it with this one if he hasn't already turned. I have my next u/s on Monday.

eyesight It's always been bad :/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I found a white t-shirt for Niko and I have my white shirt and we're going tomorrow to do our pg pictures. I still haven't told Brian yet though :/ I guess he'll find out when he either sees the pix or the charge on his card :D
I just went to Motherhood, Target and Kohl's to try to find something to wear out to dinner tonight (we have to go out w/ my DH's boss) and I discovered something depressing. In the belly I am now a large but in the top I am still a medium so I can't find any shirts unless they are t-shirts, no fitted tops, no sleeveless tops, etc. so I wasn't able to find a thing to wear. I don't know what I'm gonna do. On the upside I found a soft wireless bra at Target to wear around the house. I can't wait to wear it. It is so comfortable compared to all of the rest of mine, they have underwire. Oh, and the bra was only $4.99, not even on sale!!! I cannot believe how much I've grown in the last two weeks. I hope my Dr. doesn't say anything. I'll find out what I've gained tomorrow I guess. I have an appt. at 9:45. He should also be able to tell me whether or not I can get my epidural. Pray for me ladies!!! I guess I shouldn't complain, up until now I've only gained 7 lbs. I feel like these last two or so months are going to be miserable and I'm going to catch up in the weight gain dept.
Mother's Day-I asked DH if I get to celebrate this year and he said yes. I hope he doesn't forget and does something for me.
I hope this does work, because I do a modified version of this everyday because it feels good. I do it in between doing the pelvic rocks. I do about 160 pelvic rocks a day. I’m supposed to do 240, but 160 is as close as I can get and my class instructor is fine with that. I’m hoping that being on my hands and knees everyday will keep the baby in the right position.
KEGEL REMINDER!!! Strengthen your pelvic floor. I think the baby likes them. He tends to move around after I do them.
Pink Happy epi thoughts to you. You can always wear a tight t-shirt w/an open blouse over it. Or if there are any thrift stores around you may be able to find something, you never know.
No matter what you wear though, you are pg and will look stunning :D
ds I can't do this in front of Brian, he, um, enjoys seeing me do this a little too much :rolleyes:
amurphy I flew to Australia (14 hour flights) and back at 30 and 32 weeks with Wyatt. I also flew domestically up to 4 hours for work up to 36 weeks with both pgs. No one ever asked for a note or made any comments. My OB did make a copy of my records for me when I went to Aus. She was fine with me flying.
Mother's Day Rachel was born in February so I never had the here but not here thing on MD. I did give DH a card that first "expecting" Father's Day. But I was only about 8 weeks pg at the time!
stretch marks None yet (crossing fingers).
weird dreams My entire pregnancy, I have been dreaming about various ex-boyfriends. I don't even want to know what that's all about.
Mother's Day Haven't thought about it. It would be nice if DH did something, but for some reason, it's not that important to me right now.
baby's position He is head down, just off to the left a bit. My dr. was able to tell just feeling around a little bit.
Whoever mentioned the May thread and we're next: I had a dr's appt. today and I could have sworn that he said, "You're 30 weeks. Time to go." I was like "WHAT?" Then he turned around and he said, "Ten to go." I breathed a sigh of relief and told him not to scare me that way. I actually LOST a pound. What a miracle. My smallest weight gain yet had been 2 pounds, I was mostly 5 or over each visit.
Thanks to everyone for the support. I'm trying to look on the bright side, maybe this new diet will help me lose the baby weight faster once the baby comes! ;)
My appointment with the dietician is April 18, and my next OB appointment is now April 21. I actually have all my appointments through the end of June now. Wow.
So glad to have a three day weekend. I am going to spend tomorrow morning cleaning, then I have to run to the pharmacy and pick up my glucose moniter (yippee skippee), and then I'm picking up my cousin and her daughter and we're going to the mall with a couple other friends. Maybe I can find some cute baby clothes to take my mind off of everythig else.
breech position -- the exercises Nikosmommy wrote about worked for two of my friends last year. One of them, however, the baby only turned w/in the last two weeks even though she did them for several weeks so I wouldn't get discouraged if it takes a while.
I had the most incredible doctor's visit today. Every doctor in the practice was very backed up so the waiting room was full and every time a nurse came out to call a patient in, people would approach them about the wait. This one woman asked twice in a row. The third time she got up, I could see the nurse was becoming impatient. Before she can say anything, the woman said something like, "I feel pretty weird." And the nurse, thinking it was a ploy, said, "Honestly, even if I bring you into a room, you'll be waiting the same in there as out here." And the woman says, "No, I feel really strange." The nurse is about to brush her off and the woman's water breaks!! No joke! 10 feet from me. It took a few moments for people to realize what happened, but it became pandemonium! All these patients rushed her and were trying to help her. The biggest reaction was that people were like "Eat! Eat! It's your last chance." It was pretty funny how much food a room of pregnant women can produce from their handbags at once. The husbands seemed pretty taken aback.
The woman's doctor was out in less than two minutes and started trying to confiscate the food. The practice is in the hospital and this must not be too uncommon b/c the staff wasn't fazed -- two nurses escorted her immediately to labor & delivery after she declined a wheelchair and they had housekeeping in with a carpet cleaning machine within 10 minutes.
Needless to say, everyone was pretty excited afterwards and I think nearly every woman in the room over 35 weeks was like "Why not me?" Especially the three women who were overdue.
I only know two people whose water broke outside the hospital so this was pretty crazy. Later, my doctor said that it probably happens to their patients more than others since they're a high risk group. But still, the odds of this must be infinitesimesally low. Today was really the first beautiful spring day we've had so it seemed really fitting for something wonderful to happen today.
my feet are huge ..... AGAIN !!!!!!!!! sigh :(
I came home & laid on my left side for 45 mins like my doctor suggested I do everyday. after eating dinner I went & laid down in the bed for another hour & 1/2 they are slowly coming down but this is getting soooo old. I feel sorry for anyone who has to be on bedrest all day. This hour a day is aweful!
I have to work tomorrow :( I really hope the day goes by fast
Gosh you this thread just moves way too fast! I will try to do some s/o's!
Mystikal I am sorry you failed your three hour. What is the next step? Can you control it with some changes to your diet?
Nikosmommy Yikes! I am glad you are ok! Take it easy!
Fitzy My water broke with my DS right when I was going to take a shower!
Mother's Day I will be celebrating this year since I am a mommy.:) But the year my DS was born my DH did get me a card and made breakfast for me.
Back labor I had this when I had my DS. NOT FUN! But the epi sure was nice!
~~~~~~~~~

Drs. Appt. Yesterday I had an appt. with the Dr. They repeated the fetalfibronectin test, and everything else was normal. Well, except for the fact that I gained 8lbs in 2weeks!:eek: I did lose 2lbs the last time but still! What is the deal with that? My test came back negative and I told my Dr. I have been contracting less, which was true yesterday and the few days before that. So she said I can be on modified bedrest. Which means I can get up more often and move around more. I asked her if I could go anywhere and she said lets just see how you do with this and go from there. So things are looking good over here!

Fitzy-that story is hilarious. At least it made your wait a little more exciting. I've found that taking the first appt or two after lunch has the least wait at the doctor's, but the downside is I have to bring DS with me and he gets a little wild sometimes. If I take a late appt and leave him with DH, I am usually waiting an hour with about 10 other preggo's. The last time, I actually had to stand in the waiting room and there were 2 or 3 dads sitting, how rude:eek: !!!!!!!

Not too much new here again. Just went to the library with DH. He was so cute and checked out an entire stack of books about labor and breastfeeding and books about being a daddy. He even checked out a Doula training book since he wants to be my doula! Too cute!

Will catch up later, just wanted to drop off an update.

Dr. still says he doubts I will be able to get an epi, not because it will hurt me but because he thinks the anesth. will be afraid of getting sued. I will go see them Monday. Apparently I'm hurt right around the area the epi would be placed.

Baby is 3 lbs. I've gained 1 lb. despite this growing belly! Glucose and BP were very good. Dr. says judging by Daddy he will watch the baby's size closely in case he is big. I will get an U/S in May to see how big the baby is and his head size is. He said if he's getting very large we will induce a week or two early but going into labor naturally was best. Baby is still head down.

Next appt. April 28th 9:30 am.

I got my baby shower invite in the mail today so I am less worried about people getting them in time.

I am very depressed about this whole epi thing :( . I can't wait to get a concrete answer.

did you ask them about other pain med options, pinkie?

kmmommy
04-14-2006, 10:37 AM
Pink ~ Sorry to hear the doctor doesn't think an epi will work. Try not to stress about it until you talk to the anesthesiologist and hear what they have to say. Yay for getting another u/s in May! I'm excited for mine in 2 weeks so I can see our girl again. And make sure she's still a girl. ;)

Lil_Mrs_0702
04-14-2006, 10:50 AM
Pink- I am sorry to hear that the doctor said it is unlikely you can get an epidural. If I was you, I would look into the effects of inducing v. having a large baby. I have heard that pitocin is pretty hard on your body and is usually used with an epidural. I don't think a week is going to make a huge difference in the size of the baby.

Kaeden's Mommy- It's funny that you bring up another u/s and making sure it is still a girl. I didn't think twice about whether Collin is really a boy but now that I have the opportunity of having another u/s next week I am nervous that we are going to discover that it is a girl after all. It's not that I would mind a girl at all but I have been preparing for a boy for the last couple of months. It would just feel weird. As if I was to find out that one of you were a father to be. I wouldn't feel lied to but I would be like "Weird... I had no clue you were a guy!"

jay&erinn
04-14-2006, 10:58 AM
Pink: Try to stay positive until you get a concrete answer. The anesth. is the expert- so he may feel very differently than your doc. A friend of ours was told the same thing (back injury due to a car accident and vertibrae being fused), the anesth. didn't see a problem and she has had epis with both her deliveries. Otherwise, ask for all of your pain relief options so you know what you can expect.

Had a patient in my office today. We were talking and she delivered a 10 lb, 10 oz baby vaginally. She was a tiny lady and is also in her 70s, so I believe it was without meds. Unbelievable to me.

pink - I hope the anesthesiologist can provide what you want.

Erinn - I believe 40-50 years ago medicated births were extremely common in hospital births (it may have even been the norm) so she may have been drugged.

excited - great news on getting the okay for a less restricted bed rest.

jay&erinn-That gives me some hope, thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts everyone! I know it's not the end of the world, I'm just really scared. I will discuss what other options are available with the anesth. I guess. I've been reading up on it too.

Hello!! Happy Friday and easter weekend to everyone :)

This week has been so busy and the weekend is going to be even busier. Tuesday evening we met with a great woman named Jennifer that we wanted to interview to potentially be Peyton's sitter. She is willing to watch him at our house, be there from 730-530 everyday and is only charging $125 a week!! She is talkative and outgoing like me, she is 23, married and NOT hot. That was honestly a requirement because as secure as I am in my marriage, the LAST thing I need postpartum all flabby is a hot babysitter. LOL. So that is done and we are so relieved to have found such a great gem and saved $125 a week from what the local daycare wanted for a newborn.

OUR FURNITURE HAS ARRIVED!! I'm so excited that its finally here, well its at my dads house because he's home all day(retired)and has a truck to bring it over in. We will probably have them over one night next week to put it together and then I can take pics and show you all his sports themed nursery. YAY! I've been trying to think of a way to talk DH into going to the Easter weekend sales at the furniture stores and buying a great rocker or recliner for his room, but I dont know if I can talk him into dropping $250 in one weekend especially when we should be saving for the maternity leave.

Speaking of maternity leave, my company really doesnt have a great policy on that. I get 12 weeks of FMLA time to use (but i've used almost 3 weeks of it with sick days and appointments, boo :( ) And the time off is only paid at 60%, but after taxes and my insurance charges I'll only end up with 50% of my pay which is going to hurt. I'll end up with about 8 weeks, maybe 7 f time off once he is actually born, thats if I dont have to use any more time between now and then. Thankfully in the summer we spend less money eating out because we BBQ alot and with me not going to work for awhile we will save on gas too.

Just a quick work vent and then I've got to get going. I HATE my job. The people I work with and talk to on a daily basis are SOOO RUDE. I'm so stuck at least for now because where else can I go, make the same money, and not have to work overnights or weekends? Its a deadend and I'm banging my head on the wall over and over. My boss is a pirahna just looking to fire anyone and everyone for any reason and the customers are just @ssholes. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (pulling my hair out!!)))))))

Thanks for letting me vent.

Love ya's!

Lawyer, Kaden's, DS Thank you! I have been having a few more contraction's then I had the last few days, but hope they go back to be scarce!

Ruby That is so rude that the men didn't let you guys sit down! My ob's waiting room is small and I have seen men give up their seats!

Pink I hope that you can get a concrete answer soon about the epi!

Dan's Girl I am sorry that work is so stressful right now.

Eating before going to the hospital I am guilty of that. When my water broke with DS, I heated up some leftover spagetti and ate that on the way to the hosptial! lol!

Heck they will have to rip the food out of my hands before they get me to stop eating! :p One of the pluses of NCB!

eating before going to the hospital - I definitely will if I'm hungry. I was also told by my childbirth instructor to smuggle some food in the room in case I get hungry. How are you expected to potentially go through hours and hours of labor with no fuel. Lil_mrs - you are right it is as plus of NCB.

I had to officially retire my engagement and wedding rings today. The were not cutting off circulation yet, but I noticed this week that my fingers are a little swollen. I'm now wearing a lavender jade ring that I love.

lilmrs LOL!

DS I serously don't know how they expect you to go so long without eating! They did bring me a very good turkey sandwich right after birth! And they did let me have a popsicle during labor. My labor was pretty short 6 1/2 hours so that helped some in that I didn't get hungry.

Rings Yep, had to take those off too!

hee! I remember only being allowed gingerale during my labour... But it was ok for the most part as I'd had a huge dinner the night before and my labour was during sleeping hours. Connor was born at 11:56 a.m., so I missed the lunch tray (and breakfast, too, of course), but my kind nurse was sweet enough to scrounge up a carrot-raisin muffin, and it was the best damned muffin I'd ever eaten in my entire life (also because for the first time in 8 months, I actually enjoyed eating something without it making me feel gross....)

Eating before/during labor ~ I didn't eat last time but it was 4am when my water broke so I wasn't hungry. DS was born at 4pm and I ate a good dinner that night. If I'm hungry this time I'll eat. I figure my body is letting me know what I need.

Rings ~ Mine still fit and are actually getting a little loose since I've been losing weight.

Hi ladies,

It's been a while since I last posted. Work has been busy and stressful. I am in the middle of training a new hire who will handle my responsibilities when I go on maternity leave. June 2nd is my last day at work- I can't wait!!!

Things seem to be moving quickly now. The nursery is all done, with the exception of hanging pictures and curtains. I hope to do that within the next 1-2 weeks.

We started our Child Birth/Lamaze class this past week. It was very interesting. I am looking forward to going again next week. We still have to take infant CPR and brestfeeding which will happen in May.

Had my check-up a few days ago. She said everything looks good. She believes the baby is already head down. I thought they didn't get into that position until close to labor/delivery. Who knew? My total weight gain is now 25 lbs. Seems like I put on weight slowly up until 20wks, but since then, I've been packing on the pounds :( I can't even imagine how much weight I will put on these last few weeks.

I am still feeling well, but my ankles, especially my left, get really, really swollen by the end of the day. And I seem to be getting tired again, similar to I felt in the first trimester.

Here are some old QOTD's:
Stretch Marks: Unfortunately, yes. DH actually discovered them 4 weeks ago. I didn't even see them because they were on the lowest part of my belly, bellow my belly button. I have been so good at putting on cocoa butter and oil every day, but I go them anyway :(

Varicose Veins: Luckily, I did not get these. Funny enough, my mom got terrible varicose veins when she was pg with me, but she didn't get any stretch marks on her belly. So we are the exact opposite. So much for those things being genetic.

I also have a question: I read in the April 2006 thread that most babies are wearing newborn clothing, not 0-3 months. Most moms comment that their babies are 7-8lbs and that the 0-3 months are way too big. I have been looking for "newborn" sizes but I can't find them anywhere. I only see 0-3 months and those say 8-12.5 lbs. Where have you ladies found newborn sizes? TIA!

Best wishes for a great holiday weekend for everyone!

Hello All :D

I just had a SUPER PG BRAIN FART. I had to look at my post yesterday to see how many weeks I am today :rolleyes:

You guys fly by in here!!

Pink I hope the anesth has good better news for you.

steviem I've seen a lot of NB clothes at Sears. You won't need them that long though so don't get too many. I'm actually going there either tonight or tomorrow to find a homecoming outfit for little man.

The biggest reaction was that people were like "Eat! Eat! It's your last chance."

I couldn't stop laughing when I read this :D

Eating before labor: I had Chinese 1/2 hour before we went to the hosp to deliver Niko. The IV helped a little but I was famished by the time Niko came.
This time I'm going to eat a larger meal and sneak some snacks in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I went to BRU at 10 a.m. to take my pix with Niko and they couldn't take us until 1 p.m. :eek: So we headed off to the mall and saw the Easter Bunny. Ok, so every time they snapped a pix (of any kid) Niko would say cheese. Then when it came our turn they wanted to switch bunny and he cried when the bunny left. Well, it comes our turn and Niko freezes up. He looks like a deer in the headlights in his pix :)
After the bunny we walked the mall and then went to get his haircut. I did a lot more than I needed to. My hips were killing me in the end and we both had a good 3 hour nap.
Ryan, Everyone was talking about that at work today. A lot of people said they used ReNu for many years and have not had any problems but a couple people knew people that did have problems. If you use it, throw it away and buy something else!
Happy Easter Mommas!!
If you want to get a coupon worth up to $8 for another Bausch & Lomb product, go here - http://64.34.176.24/
Use the lot #GB5114 if you can't find yours or you don't have one.
You can get one ticket per person but two per address. So stock up and use both yours and your spouse's name. And your work address if you want three. ;)
Eating during labor With my DD I had an unmedicated birth so I had no restrictions about eating, but I actually didn't even think about it until after she was born. I ate breakfast normally that morning after my water broke and then DH made me a grilled cheese for lunch but my contractions were getting intense enough that I couldn't really eat it - I probably ate half at most. That was all I had until around midnight when I sent DH out of the room with orders not to come back without food! He found some leftover turkey sandwich and a syrupy fruit cup and it was the best thing I have ever eaten!
newborn size clothes They do grow out of them quickly. I don't think I even had any for DD, she just wore stuff a little big for a few weeks. FTR, she was 7 lbs, 5 oz and has always pretty much been in the 50-75 %tile for size.
newborn sized clothes...
I was just looking at some old photos this afternoon, and it struck me at how tiny a 5 lb/6 oz newborn is.... Here's my 1st guy at 2 weeks old. He was just a shade under 6 lbs at the time. Preemie sleeper on him. But, damn...How Teeeny!! Boggles my mind that he's now tall for his age.
Anyway, obviously his situation was a little different from the norm, but in the hospital, he wore NICU sleepers. When he came home at 2 weeks until about 8 weeks, he mostly wore 4 preemie and NB sleepers all the time. We had a couple of baby gap outfits for 0-3 months but they were enormous on him until he was about 8-10 weeks. Finally, he got to start wearing them around that time! :)
and as for the eating thing.... I forgot, I ate a lot of ICE CHIPS. Mmmmm... couldn't eat them FAST enough. DH claims he was feeding them to me as fast as his hands would allow, but for me he was far too slow -- I was like "what kinda service is THIS?!" :D
excitedbride so glad to hear you'll have less restriction now! :D That's great news! As for me, we should be able to control it with diet and exercise. I'm meeting the nutritionist on Tuesday, and I picked up my glucose monitor yesterday. NOT looking forward to that. ;)
I went looking for maternity clothes yesterday and I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING. I need pants. I have one pair of jeans that fit (and they aren't very comfy), and two pair of pants for work, however, one is quite snug and won't last much longer. I am very short - like just under five feet. My hips, thighs, and butt have gotten ginormous, and I need to buy a large to fit my lower half, but then it's too big in the belly and crotch and I have a ton of extra fabric. :mad: Any idea where I can find maternity clothes for shorter people and not spend a fortune? I'm getting so frustrated.
Anyone planning on bringing an outfit of the opposite gender in case the u/s prediction was wrong? I have thought about this several times - even though we have seen "girl parts & no boys parts 3 times" I still remember stories of people having the opposite of what they were told even if they had seen "parts" on an u/s - I would hate to ask someone to "run out & get a coming home outfit" cause they would probably pick something I would not like. I will probably pick up a nice boy outfit ...
Today is the siblings class at the hospital - I really hope Andrew likes it & does not get too bored. It is for ages 3-10 which he turned 11 a few days ago but I had him on the list for over a month ... oh well I will let yall know how it goes this afternoon.
Opposite gender outfit ~ I don't plan on bringing one. We have another u/s in a week and I will have them double check at that time. If we do end up having a boy I will send DH out to buy the going home outfit. We didn't know that DS was a boy until he was born but I wanted a gender-specific outfit so while I was in the hospital I sent him out to pick out the outfit. He felt really special and was thrilled to have a really important job. Plus, he picked out the cutest outfit!
morning everyone!
mystikalthe gap is the only place that worked for me for pants. I am about an inch taller than you, and sometimes the jeans are a little long but the dress pants were ok..
Maybe dresses would work better? motherhood has some nice and fairly cheap ones.
Opposite gender outfit - we are because no one knows we know and my mom will be there. I had bought two outfits before I caved and found out the gender. After we found out, we bought another gender specific outfit.
Mystikal - oh girl, I feel your pain. I'm 5'1" and have a large lower body in comparison to my waist, and I've ALWAYS found pant shopping difficult. So it's doubly tough being pregnant. I agree with maryanne about the Gap - they have some "ankle" sizes online that have worked well for me. I found a pair of petite pants at Motherhood, but they were the only style in the store. Now that spring's around, have you considered trying regular capri pants in a larger size? Those sometimes look like regular length pants on me...just a thought.
opposite gender outfit - we've been told from all four ultrasounds that it's a boy, so we feel pretty confident about the sex.
Now, I say this because it's adorable, and not to ruffle any Red Sox fans feathers (I know there's a few of you on here). DH just got back from NYC and brought home a very tiny NY Yankees ball cap for our little guy...it's so CUTE! And I just loved that DH was thinking of our baby while away. Does anyone else find these little gestures as touching as I do? It makes me love DH even more...
Newborn clothes: Target has them. I have two boy and two girl newborn outfits bought since we don't know what we're having. Mia was 6 lb, 11 oz at birth and wore newborn and premie clothes for the first month (at least). She was born Sept 22nd and her halloween outfit was a newborn size. I think it depends on how big your baby is and how fast they gain weight. Mia was slow to gain weight (she's 2.5 now and only 24 pounds), so she stayed in clothes for at least a few months at a time.
Food during labor: My last meal was ice cream a few hours before my contractions started:D . If I could work that out again, I'd probably do it. I think because my contractions started out so close together right off the bat, I had absolutely no desire to eat or drink anything until it was all over, 18 hours later. It was really the last thing from my mind. However, right afterwards all I could think about was food (actually about an hour afterwards). Even though it was after dinner, the hospital had a food tray in my room very quickly- unfortunately it wasn't anything I really liked. We called the parents and they brought pizza- best pizza I ever ate. This time I'm requesting any type of carb and lots of sugar since I've been so restricted with them with pregnancy.
ds: That stinks about having to take your rings off. I'm sure my time is soon. Last time around DH told me I was not getting new rings if they had to be cut off. I took them off a few days later:rolleyes:
