DH and I want to start TTC soon. However, I am in the south - it is over 100 degrees today. The heat can really get to me at times as is that I'm wondering how horrible it would be to be in the third trimester in this heat. Should we delay TTC so that I won't be expecting in July/August which is almost always 100 here?

My sister was due 6/16 and went early on 6/1. The next week is was 95 here and humid as heck. I distinctly remember her saying "Oh I am so glad I am not pg in this weather!" The only thing I would caution is that sometimes even with charting it can be difficult to get pg right away, so I don't know that I would put it off, because who knows, it might take you longer than you thought. But I would definitely make sure that all your A/C works just in case :)

I'm in my third trimester now and I live in Florida. Honestly, in the day and age of air conditioning I don't really see it as being a problem. I guess if I worked outside all day or if I wanted to spend a day at Disney or something it would be uncomfortable, but for the most part I'm inside in the A/C.

I was due 6/23 but didn't end of having my DD until the 28th. I suffered through some very hot days and very humid days prior to delivery. I always knew that I didn't really want to go through July and August and be in my last trimester. It's just too darn hot and humid around here for me to deal with that. I enjoy being outside too much. There were days that I just wanted to sit in front of a fun and let it blow on me to keep me cool.

Had things worked out differently and I was due in July and August I would have just had to have dealt with it the best way I could. But I wouldn't have liked it necessarily. I'd definitely made certain that the AC was working.

I guess in the grand scheme of things it hasn't been *that* bad. I'm not too fond of breaking out in a sweat just walking through Target or having swollen feet 24 hours a day, but, whatever. We decided to TTC when we did because we were ready to have a baby and didn't want to wait anymore. Hot and sweaty or not; swollen feet or not, I wouldn't change a thing. :) HOWEVER, I don't plan on having a summer baby next time, that's for sure!

I wouldn't let being pregnant in summer stop me from ttc. You never know how long it is going to take. That's my take on it though, everyone has to decide what's important for them. :)

I had my baby in the middle of July in Phoenix. It's just hot here whether you're pregnant or not. I didn't really think it was a big deal at all, but I'm pretty used to dealing with heat! I just drank lots and lots of water!

I wouldn't mind being pregnant in the summer again....I could re-use all of my cute summer maternity clothes.

I am 8 months pregnant now - and live in the Northeast where it is hot and humid....it took me 18 months to get pregnant so I am not going to complain!! It isn't as bad as I thought it would be - on the really hot days, I just take it easy and try to stay inside.

I'm eight months pregnant and I have to admit in CA it hasn't been that hot yet, but I can tell you that I am uncomfortable even in just 80 degree weather! My feet look like stuffed burritos, and forget about wearing any shoes other than flip flops. But with Air Conditioning it's not all that bad, I just feel blessed to have gotten pregnant as easily and quickly as I did :D next baby though we'll try for April or May due date ;)

Personally I'm glad that I am at my "most pregant" right now. Your feet will most likely swell anyhow so it's nice to be wearing flip-flops. Also, I'm so comfortable in my skirts and tank tops. I would hate the idea of putting actual clothes on at this stage of the game. I have been no hotter than I would be if I wasn't pregnant.

Like many posters have said, you really don't have a lot of control over when you can get pregnant and if the pregnancy will go full term (I don't mean that to sound negative in any way, but it's something to consider). If you know you are ready to start a family then I would just go for it and not worry about weather.

I live in Mississippi and was 9 months pregnant with twins in July. I spent most of my time in air conditioning. And, to tell you the truth, I don't know what I would've done for footwear if I'd been hugely pregnant with swollen feet in the middle of the winter -- if it wasn't for flipflops, I would've been barefoot 24/7 the whole last trimester.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I suppose a lot of it is that each of us handles heat differently. I hadn't thought about the swelling feet issue. Flip flops sure would look a bit more weird in March than in July!

Part of the issue, too, of course, is that we don't know how long it will take, but for 2-3 months should we halt trying temporarily?

I really appreciate hearing from all of you. It definitely helps me and DH in the thinking process.

Amen on flip flops - 7 month PG right now, can't imagine stuffing my fat feet in my winter shoe collection! LOL! I'm actually very happy to be PG in the summer - it's cheaper to buy $4 flip flops then new shoes - plus, cuter outfits!!! My capri's are my other best friends! LOL!

It is a little rough if I go walking in the heat, but if I bring ice cold water (lots and lots of water, huge help during the summer!) it's not so bad at all. Plus, air condishioning, love love love that invention!

I am 32 weeks pregnant right now and live in phoenix where it has been hot for months now. I honestly don't mind it. I just drink lots and lots of water and try to stay indoors. I also have to say that even though my ankles aren't swollen I don't knwo what I would do without flip flops!

I definately don't think you should delay getting pregnant just because of the weather. I personally would hate to bring my child home from the hospital in 20 degrees but some people do it.

Hope this helps

I had my DD in mid-August last year. It wasn't anywhere near as hot last year as it is this year. However - I don't know if I'd rather not be pregnant in hot weather, or dealing with a hot, cranky newborn in hot weather. I think I'd rather it be me, personally. :)

ButterflyJen ~ I must say I agree with you on the hot cranky infant part, lol. Hopefully it will jsut be starting to "cool" donw here when I start taking the baby out a lot but it sure would be rough if he or she was cranky all the time especially in that carseat.

I just thought of something else...if your baby is born in the summer, you won't have to worry about taking a brand new baby out in the middle of cold and flu season!

I definitely don't have to worry about this here, fortunately! I live in Texas, so the coldest it gets here is maybe 35 degrees.

Great point about not having to worry about cold and flu season. And I never even thought about the baby being cranky!

In my last few weeks myself in the North East - I second what Jodi says - summer maternity clothes are so much easier (and cuter I think), you can wear more open shoes and A/C means that I have really not suffered in the heat at all.

I'm almost 27 weeks pg and live in Dallas...it is hot, but I go from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to my air conditioned office and back again. Then, from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to the air conditioned store or restaurant and back again. The worst was when we decided to go to an outdoor festival in my hometown...we were outside for several hours, but it wasn't miserable (though some crabby old woman did feel it necessary to inform me how glad she was not to be me...I was half-tempted to say, "Right back atcha, Sagboob" and blame it on the hormones and heat, but I thought better of it. ;)). Honestly, if we can help it, any future child(ren) will not be born in the summer. I'd rather be pg in the summer than have a child in the summer...plus, when your kids are in school (if you don't homeschool), you can have fun with their birthdays if they fall during the school year. Friends I grew up with who had summer birthdays never had "friend parties" or anything.
