Hi - I am new to these boards, but have definitely learned already that many of you are widely traveled. Have any of you been to Zihuatanejo? (I did a search and only found one reference... If this should be under something else, please let me know)
We are looking to go in early July. I am looking to relax, relax, relax while DH spends quality time with the surf.
If you've been, do you have any suggestions on places to stay?
TIA!

My friend stayed at the Club Intrawest Zihuatanejo and said it was simply amazing. You can read more about it on Trip Adisor - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g150795-d503155-Reviews-Club_Intrawest_Zihuatanejo-Zihuatanejo_Ixtapa_Zihuatanejo_Pacific_Coast.html

Bumping up this thread as would like to get more info. I am planning a surprise trip for my hubby next year fro when he graduates technical school and exploring all options
My question is, is this a good place for other activites?

Hi August2005Bride - It's close to Ixtapa - which is where we'll fly into. Ixtapa is known for having more things to do. Zihua is apparently more of a place to relax and spend a lot of time in the water. It was the location featured at the end of Shawshank Redemption too. Check out http://www.zihuatanejo.net/ for more info.
We are going the first week in July. I'll come back with more info and maybe some pictures to share as well.

I love Zihuatanejo. I went when I was in college and it was by far my fave beach destination (besides Maui maybe). I don't remember where we stayed but I do remember that there a lot of things to do on the beach (banana boats - a must! -, parasailing, etc.) You can go into the town to go shopping but there isn't much else to do besides relax. From your post, it seems like that's what you want to do most so it works perfectly. HAVE FUN! Its so beautiful.

We were in Zihuatenejo a few weeks ago as part of our cruise itinerary. We didn't do any activities, just walked around the town. I loved how different it was from all the other ports. The roads were narrow and cobblestoned, the shops were right on the beach, and the area had so many palm trees! It felt like a quaint village. It was very beautiful. For activities, we were told Ixtapa is only 5 miles away and that's a busier city. For relaxing, though, Zihuatenejo would be perfect.
