The u/s clinic just called. They forgot to take a photo of the heart outflow valve, which is a part of the routine assessment. They asked if I would mind coming back for a second u/s.....

Allison - That is such awesome news! Well, not awesome that they forgot to take a picture of the heart outflow valve, but I'm so happy that you will get a second chance at a gender peek!

Allison that's great!! It just confirms my suspicion that you had a really crappy tech.:)

Rancid those pics are adorable. I especially like the thumb sucking pic.

Still waiting to schedule the u/s. I am about to call one of those 4D places that charges $100 just because the suspense is killing me. The birthcenter called me and someone there is going to try and get my appointment scheduled before I meet with the midwife next Wednesday.

Oooh oooh oooh!!! :eek: :D Maybe this time you'll get a good u/s tech who has some patience and is willing to take time to actually get a good look at everything!! Goes to show how thorough the first tech was...shame on her!! I'm excited for you getting to go for a 2nd try!! :D

Rancid~~So happy that things are back to normal with your baby boy. I love the pics too! They are much better than mine.
___

I had my big u/s on Monday. All is well and baby boy is measuring about 5 days ahead of schedule! We got to see his "canolli" (as DH calls it), heart, feet, brain. Everything looks great. I'll post a picture a bit later after I scan it. Unfortunately, she only gave us one good profile and one of the foot.

I am having my big u/s scan next week. Besides the gender of the baby what other things are they looking for? what sort of things should i be looking for? and what type of questions should i ask. Also on my work up from it says the scan is going to be transvaginal! Was all of the same? or does it very from doc to doc? thanks ladies!!

Allison78

Thanks Ladies!! I talked to the clinic this morning to reschedule and I told her I want to find out the gender so a) please tell the tech this and b) let's put the appointment a week away to give baby a little extra growing time. So my new u/s appointment is August 7th. My next midwife appt. is still July 31st.

Rancid - I LOVE your u/s pics. The thumbsucking one is priceless. Save it forever. As I said in your LJ, I may distribute your u/s photos as my own if my next appt. doesn't go any better than the first. :D

Janu - My u/s was abdominal, not transvag. In general I've heard that they only due transvag for first trimester u/s so I'm not sure why yours is. It might be worthwhile to ask.

As for what they're looking for, they take LOTS of measurements of all the individual baby parts, make sure everything is growing at the right rate, they check to see that the spinal cord and the heart and all the organs are properly formed. It takes about 45 mins and they probably won't tell you much during that part. I don't think they're allowed. Once that's done, they'll zoom out and show you the baby and the gender and tell you about what you're seeing (hopefully in more detail than my first attempt). :rolleyes:

allison horray!! yippee for a second chance

kimmer congrats on your boy! go team blue!!

janu I had a transvaginal u/s at first with my u/s since they check to see how long your cervix is. (about 3 cm is normal)But, then the tech switched to the normal belly wand for the rest of it. I don't know about some techs, but ours was good about telling us what she was looking for, but i think it depends on your tech. some of things we looked at:
- measuring skull circumference for dating purposes
- meausring length of femur
- checking for 10 toes and 10 fingers, and looking for club feet
- measuring neck thickness
- looking at the spine to check for spina bifida
- looking for the kidneys, the bladder and intestine
- checking where the placenta connects, how thick the placenta is, and making sure you could see all the blood vessels through the umbilical cord

i think that's more or less it.

oops, cross posted with allison. I think she's right in that they're probably not allowed to say much since it is a liability. But, our tech told us that she doesn't listen to the lawyers and thinks it is a disservice to the patients if you don't say anything. i'm not complaining!! i learned a lot!!

threadmistrisses, can you update my stats because we're having a surprise!! also, my next mw appt is aug 30!! thanks!

I just re-read the order form and it says OB w/tranvaginal doppler (as needed) so maybe they wont do the tranvag part only if its nessary! or at least i hope becasue i dont want the wand up "there" for 45 mins! :eek:

So did you ladies as questions about what was what?

I dont know if its a VA thing but all the u/s that i have had the techs have all been rude and unkind! you would think that this is such a happy time for me that they would be a tad more happy. Oh well guess not everyone thinks like me:rolleyes:

katmg
07-28-2006, 10:02 AM
About the transvag. - they may do that to take a look at the cervix, but they can definitely see and measure the cervix on a regular u/s. Oh and I believe they like to see the cervix at over 4 cm. (Having just had a cerclage b/c of a shortened cervix, I'm pretty sure about this one! ;) )

Oh, and while I agree about the u/s techs being happier, I understand that for them, this is just a job. Some days, I love my job other days, not so much. I'm sure it's the same for them. The thing I keep wanting to say to people at the hospital, doctor's office, etc. is, "You do this every day, but I have never done this before! I could use a little bit more explanation on the whys and hows of what is being done." Luckily, my OB is really good about answering all my questions.

Kimmer - Congrats on your boy!

I work outside my company office but am still a part of the management team for my company. Every week many emails are exchanged between me and the rest of the (all male) team. One of my colleagues has a very acidic sense of humor that sometimes gets to be a bit much. All week long I would send an email to the group and get a reply to all that had some sarcastic comment. Of course this would get the others going. It can be a fun office to work in but sometimes those guys have a hard time being serious when they need to be. I was getting absolutely zero constrictive feedback as they were in a joking mood all week. Finally, I put together a very calm email saying that I needed to get a few things done, needed their opinions and requested that the sarcasm be toned down for a bit so we could move forward. This was of course interpreted as pregnancy hormones. I realize that I may be prone to hormonal rages but I am a professional and I believe quite capable of separating hormones from genuine irritation. So what now? I can not have a dissenting opinion or request that my colleagues be serious. I am to sit like a placid, dumb cow, grow a baby and not feel anything? I am too easily dismissed this way. I did explain that my frustration has nothing to do with hormones but I could tell by the tone I was getting the old smile and nod treatment. The irritation is real, the fact that I want to kill them all now, that's a pregnancy rage.

kimmer~ Congratulations on your BOY !! Another point for Team Blue! :D

When I had my big u/s she did use the transvaginal near the very beginning to get a better look at my cervix because initially it was difficult to see with the regular u/s paddle. She fully explained why we needed to use it briefly, so I wasn't the least bit uncomfortable in that situation. She had me put the wand in place myself, and it was only in there for maybe, MAYBE 20-30 seconds tops before moving on to the regular u/s paddle?? DH was standing there and had a few choice comments to make about the size and length of the wand, LOL, because it totally resembled a very long vibrator. :rolleyes:

She basically did a lot of measurements of the baby: different areas of the head, arm bones, leg bones, etc. As she was measuring, she was commenting to us that everything was measuring up perfectly. Also got a good look at the heart and valves. Looked at all the other fun internal stuff, like location of the placenta and connection to the umbilical cord, heartbeat and so forth. She also asked us at the very beginning if we were interested in finding out the gender, just in the case we didn't want to know and it was accidentally revealed. And she did her best to seek out the gender too, when we told her we were dying to find out the gender, which was really nice of her.

She explained everything that was going on and what we were looking at, and I think we were very lucky that we had such a friendly and personable u/s tech as I've heard stories about how cold and unfriendly some can be. She also used a warmed up u/s gel which felt very nice on my belly in lieu of cold gel. :) There were a few times where she just sat the u/s paddle on my belly so we could watch the baby move around for a few minutes, in complete awe of course. :D

At the level II we got an even better look at the baby and his internal functions and measurements and such, and lucked out again with both a very friendly u/s tech and a friendly doctor who performed another u/s right after just to double check that everything looked perfect.

Rancid - I LOVE your u/s pics. The thumbsucking one is priceless. Save it forever. As I said in your LJ, I may distribute your u/s photos as my own if my next appt. doesn't go any better than the first.

Thanks!! And LOL! Here's hoping your next appt goes MUCH better than the first!! Whoohoo only a little more than a week till your next u/s!!

Allison...That is so great that you get another u/s! Yeah!!

pacificbliss, I'm so sorry to hear that your coworkers are treating you so horribly. Sometimes people don't like to get caught doing something they shouldn't be doing and their only response is to ridicule the person who is trying to get them back on track - unfortunately this time they are picking on you and your pregnancy! That is so frustrating!

u/sI had a transvaginal in the early weeks because of the baby's position - it was just down too low to see accurately with the abdominal. I think depending on where the little noodle is hiding, they use whatever they can to get an accurate picture.

A level II u/s is ordered usually to check for any number of things on a more in-depth basis. Some of the ladies here have had them because of test results, others have them because perhaps they had a previous pregnancy with difficulties.

Rancid13
07-28-2006, 02:06 PM
What is a level II u/s? and do all ppl get it?It's a more detailed u/s that checks for abnormalities. I had one because after my initial u/s results were reviewed, it was discovered that there were cysts in my baby's brain. I immediately went in for an AFP blood test which came back normal and got scheduled for a level II u/s so they could monitor the cysts and make sure other parts of the baby looked ok and measured up fine. The level II revealed that the cysts had completely disappeared (thank god!!) and baby was progressing along perfectly. As soon as the good news was revealed, DH and I were the happiest, most relieved people in the world as we'd been worrying about it for 3 weeks. :)

baby kicks~I was unsure before what was gas/digestion and what was baby kicks/movements, but for a little over a week now I've definitely been feeling him moving around in there. Sometimes it's little kicks, sometimes it feels like he's rolling around. DH can feel too, which he's really excited about. So far only a few times there's been pain involved with the movements, and it was very brief (but enough for me to say "stop hurting mommy!"). :D

I had my u/s this afternoon, and baby looked great. All measurements were on target or ahead (head measured about 2 weeks ahead, same as with my DD; DH's family has some huge noggins). And, it's a ...

BOY!

We are thrilled. :D

Kimmer Congrats on your boy!

Allison So happy you will get another u/s--that's some good karma coming back your way.:)

Pacificbliss Sorry your coworkers are annoying you.

Movement My little guy is quite active. (The tech had a hard time getting the measurements because he wouldn't stop moving). It was so weird during the u/s to be able to see on screen on the jabs and kicks I was feeling in my belly.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Teresita - Congrats on the boy! That's awesome!

Pacific - I keep thinking about what you wrote and it is really frustrating to me. I know you said this was the mgmt. team, is there anyone "over" the mgmt. team that you could contact? Or could you call the instigator and try to get something resolved there? If you have some sort of boss you could approach them with something like, "I resent the implication that I am allowing my personal life to affect my work. I have maintained a professional attitude about this and I am not asking for anything unreasonable." Man, I don't know the whole thing just sucks. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it.

The worst thing I've got is annoying coworkers commenting on my lunch everyday. If I eat something junky, I'm not ever going to be able to lose my pregnancy weight. If I eat early so that I can run to a meeting, they laugh and tell me I must be hungry to be eating so early - um, no I've got a client meeting at noon and it'll be 3 or 4 before I get out. :rolleyes: Some days, I swear they just wait to see what I'm eating for lunch so they can come over and make comments.

kimmer and teresita congratulations on the boys!!

katmg it was a very frustrating week at work but I decided to say nothing unless it continues into next week. If it does I will confront each person individually starting with my boss who was also part of the jokester crowd. Since they are all in one big office I would have to call them individually at home. Sorry your coworkers are making a big deal out of your lunch and lunch schedule. What is it with people? I am sure I never acted this way around a pregnant woman.

Thanks ladies for sharing in my happiness at a second u/s. They've moved my u/s appointment up to Aug. 3rd b/c they said it had to be within 7 days of the last one so keep your fingers crossed that at 19 weeks the gender is visible enough that even a lazy tech could find it. :rolleyes:

YEAH FOR THE BOYS Teresita and Kimmer!! I wonder if our stats will be skewed to the boy side in this group?

Pacific - work politics is SO INFURIATING. It's hard to balance friendships with professional relationships in the workplace. It's like walking a tightrope. I've had very similar situations in the past (not while pg) with co-workers taking "funny" in emails over the line to just plain unprofessional and its a difficult position to be put in.

With being pg, I've had a couple of frustrating co-worker moments too.

1) In a group meeting of our department last week, we were discussing long term scheduling so I figured since there were some people in the department who might not know yet, that I should just announce once and for all that I am pg and will be going on leave (since it will be for a year) in Dec. Well, after I said it, this one girl in the group starts pointing and saying "Look how red she's getting! Look at her face! She's so embarrased! Look! LOOK!" Frankly, I hadn't been that embarrased until then, thanks!! Then I really turned red. Some people.

2) One guy at work no longer talks to my face AT ALL. He talks to my stomach the ENTIRE TIME we speak. It's given me a new empathy for women with big bbs. It's weird to not have someone talk to your face. I really want to be like "I'm up here!"

Rancid -

but enough for me to say "stop hurting mommy!"

This really made me smile. It's fun to think about the fact that we're actually starting to interact with our children. So cool.

:) Allison

I have my big u/s today. It's not on the list for some reason. I have been away for over a week and missed a lot, but I will be back with an update after I go this afternoon. We are hoping to find out the gender.

I was actually visiting my family in Massachusetts this week and they had a surprise baby shower for me. I will not be able to make it all the way back up there before the baby comes, so I guess they had to do it early. It was lots of fun and, since the gender was still unknown, we now own every single ducky item ever made :)

I am really feeling strong movement now! DH feels it all the time and my mom got to feel it. You can even see it on the outside if I am wearing a tight shirt!

Congrats to Teresita and Kimmer on their boys!

Congratulations on a successful ultrasound Veeka!

You said:
Ohh almost forgot: baby’s stomach was full; it was cute to see a black stop in his belly, with food. I guess they process food really slow, because I did not eat anything since dinner time, and he was still full.

I just wanted to clarify that the baby doesn't get the food you eat. It only gets nutrients-rich blood through the umbilical cord, not food. The contents of your fetus's stomach is called meconium which consists of dead skin cells, degestive secretions, and amniotic fluid.

Thanks for the congrats everyone! I am getting more and more excited to meet my little guy, but at the same time am just trying to enjoy the relative calm (as calm as it can be with my 2 yr old DD) of my life now. I have no idea how I am going to handle working fulltime, taking care of a newborn, and attending to my DD. But I just keep telling myself that lots of other women have done it and do it, so I will figure it out somehow, too.

My DH is now able to feel the baby's movement when he puts his hand on my belly. :)

Rosa I hope all goes well with your u/s today!

Allison With my DD, we found out the gender in my 17th week, so you should have no problem at 19 weeks.

Well, I went to the doctor today b/c this weekend I was having some bright pink spotting and some major pressure after my cerclage last week. The doctor checked me and the stitch still seemed to be in place, but she wanted an u/s to check the cervix anyway. Everything seemed to be A-OK.

While we were there she said we could go ahead and do the anatomy u/s today rather than wait until next week! I'm okay, baby is okay - Sounds good to me! So the tech. looked around and measured all kinds of stuff - this is the heart, kidneys, bladder, etc. Looked at all the fingers and toes. She asked us if we wanted to know the sex - YES! She said it is definitely a Girl! I told her that's what the u/s tech at the hospital last week had thought too, but wasn't sure. This tech was pretty darn positive it is a girl. So we can add at least one more for TEAM PINK!

Oh, and I totally think that article is true. ;)

Congrats on the BOYS Teresita and Kimmer and Katmg on a GIRL !!(and anyone else I missed!)

Back from a nice relaxing week in Siesta Key, FL...the weather was hot and sunny for the most part. A few thunderstorms but just one that really wrecked the day. We went outlet shopping during that one. No big baby purchases but did get a good deal on some 9 West shoes for work. Why is it always that it seems that vacation flies by? I was excited though to come home b/c that means tomorrow is the big U/S!!! I can't wait. Everyone on here and IRL seems to be having boys so I am sure that is what it will be for me but we'll see.......

Anyway, can't wait to hear from Rosa!

I'll check back to update everyone after work tomorrow. I need to take some belly shots as I have definitely grown. I have also started to feel the baby move and can feel it from the outside, too. Very cool! DH has not been able to though but I am sure he will soon.

Sorry to take so long to report back - the appointment was very long and then I was on the phone all night giving family the news. Anyway...

WE ARE EXPECTING A BABY BOY!!!

The u/s tech immediately started laughing when she saw the image. She said she usually tells people at the end, but this baby clearly wanted everyone to know! He had his little legs spread :o

Everything else went really well. He is measuring one week ahead, but they are keeping my due date the same for now. I will have another u/s in about 6 weeks and they will reassess then. I am relieved he is big because EVERYONE at the doctor's office yesterday was telling me how I barely look PG and my belly is so small. I was worried the baby might not be very big. But he's great :)

His brain, heart, and everything looked great too. I could not believe how well we could see his face too. But every time the tech would try to press down where his face is, he would put his hand up, like "stop squishing my face!" He was also VERY active, to the point where the u/s tech asked if I had just had a coffee (no, I had not). I got a video and some good pictures, so I will try to post a few here after I scan them. There is actually one of him making a kiss face - his lips are puckered up - too cute.

The only concern was a low-lying placenta (why I will get another u/s). The doctor said it usually moves up on its own but the worst case scenario is a C-section. It is not dangerous or anything.

As you can tell, I am very excited for our boy and my DH is ecstatic :D

I went to babies r us yesterday with my mom and we were super excited to pick out my nursery set, and we were there about 20 minutes walking around and this girl comes up asking if we have found anything we like or if we need assistance just ask because I don't need to lift anything, well i was like oh that was sweet of her, well about 10 min. later we pass her and she said have you found a set yet and i said oh yea i love this one, and she says " oh that is gorgeous, but don't you know you should not get anything for the baby till after it comes, in case something happens, then your stuck with everything , its bad luck." I looked at her and any other time i would have went off, but all i could think about was my baby and i busted out crying, my mom looked at her with disgust and we left. she didint even show she cared she almost thought it was funny, I wanted to call and complain but im kind of stuck in the middle, what if something happened to her like that, and i mean people have bills to pay i don't want to get anyone in trouble, but i don't want her to say that to anyone else but on the other hand if i was not pregnant i would have taken my shoes off and whipped her *** right there, I would never have the guts or balls to even tell someone they have a booger in there nose if i didnt know them let alone your going to lose your baby. ...

Sorry so long.....feels good to vent...

Congrats katmg on your GIRLand Rosa on your BOY!!!! my u/s tech did say all she has been getting lately is boys so i guess she was not lying.

I just got back from our big u/s and......................................

WERE HAVING A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought for sure it was girl, but the tech said there was no way the baby could be a girl!!! DH was soooooooo happy we were both crying! Everything else measured perfectly. I am 3 days ahead he said but they are still going to keep the due date at 12/26 or 12/27

Congrats to Kat on her GIRL and Rosa and Janu on their BOYS!!!

That is so exciting! I really hope I can bring you guys some news on Thursday!

Chris'sLady - Wow. I can't believe that lady said that to you. I'm aghast. I totally understand your reaction. What a thought to put into someone's head while they are baby shopping. Like you said, maybe she thought (in some twisted way) that she was being helpful but who cares. It was completely inappropriate of her. Don't worry about venting, that's what we're here for!!

I had my 19 week appt. with the midwife yesterday and it went really well. My blood work all came back clear and my urinalysis was fine. She the u/s showed that the baby is super active and that my placenta was located at the front, but nice and high so it's fine for ncb.

QOTD - Does anyone get a pain underneath one of their bbs after they eat? Kinda like a sharp gas pain? I get it all the time and the midwife said that it was a result of the squish factor on my stomach and probably would (unfortunately) continue throughout the pg. Am I the only one with this particular symptom or is anyone else experiencing it?

Hope everyone is well!

:) Allison

Chris'slady That is terrible. I can't believe she said that to you. Could it have been a cultural thing? I know some cultures do not buy anything for baby until it arrives. Others used to wait until the child was 1 year old to name it. Still, it does not excuse her and I was thinking you could call and ask to speak to a manager. Tell the manager the woman was very helpful but said something inappropriate and tell her what was said. If she is generally a good employee the manager will likely discuss with her that she needs to be sensitive to the way other cultures prepare for a new baby but won't terminate her. That way you can save some other woman the heartache you experienced. Plus you will do that employee a favor as a less understanding customer might insist she be fired or make a bigger deal out of it. No matter what you decide I am so sorry you had to go through that.

janu and rosa congrats on the boys!!

Have fun msnicolea!

Wow, team blue is really pulling away here.

rosa Congrats on the baby boy!

I am relieved he is big because EVERYONE at the doctor's office yesterday was telling me how I barely look PG and my belly is so small. I was worried the baby might not be very big. But he's great :)

Congratulations on your BOY!!! And welcome to Team Blue!! I'm in the same boat as you...I feel huge but everyone's telling me I'm 'barely showing' so I was under the assumption that the baby was on the small size. At the level II last week it was confirmed that he was looking like he was about 15oz, which shocked me (baby books are estimating a 22-wk baby to be more like 12oz). He must be tucked away in there deep or something!! Glad to hear that all looks well, and LOL re: being able to tell gender right at the start!! :D

janu98~ Congratulations on your BOY !!!! Wow Team Blue sure has the lead here, doesn't it? Glad to hear that everything is measuring up perfectly!! I love hearing good news. :)

chris'slady~ OMG I cannot believe what that girl said to you!! :mad: Where does she get off making a comment like that to an expectant mother AT BRU??? :mad: Someone that tactless should not be working in a store like BRU, her comments could really do some damage depending on the emotional state of the person she's talking to. I would have made mention of her comment to a supervisor or manager, to avoid the same situation happening to someone else but with potentially damaging/stressful results.

QOTD - Does anyone get a pain underneath one of their bbs after they eat? No, but I have had the sharp pains beneath my bb's on occasion, although they've never occurred right after eating. It feels like a stabbing~I told my ob about it at the last appointment (I joked that it felt like baby had gotten ahold of a knife and was stabbing me from the inside) and she said it was totally normal to be feeling pains like that, so long as they weren't prolonged/sustained for very long. I can't recall what she said caused the pains or what they were called, but I was told not to worry about it unless it didn't go away...

msnicolea~ I can't wait to hear about your u/s today!! Not too much longer now, eh?? :D

Threadmistress, could you change my due date on page 1 to Dec 3? Thanks!!

katmg
08-01-2006, 11:24 AM
Chris'lady - I am so sorry that woman said that to you. What an awful experience. As someone who has experienced a loss, it is very hard to start to bond with this baby and even to start buying things for the nursery, etc. But I would be totally aghast if anyone said something like that to me. I would definitely call and say something to the manager. That sort of comment is inappropriate and should not be tolerated.

janu - Congrats on the boy!

Thanks everyone! We are so excited about our girl! I have just been grinning from ear to ear all day just thinking about HER! :D

chris'slady that is so rude of that woman! I would complain, I am a big letter writer! Ha, maybe you can get a free giftcard or something. ;)

I still have 2 more weeeks to find out the gender! Ugh, I want to know now! It is so hard to wait! I have been taking mom & tot swimming lessons with my son for the past month and we are on our last 2 weeks. It is good exercise for me but it also makes me really tired. Next summer I will be taking them with the new baby :D

Wow - there sure are a lot of boys around here :)

Rancid: We have the same due date now! Well, I guess mine would be November 26 or something, based on the u/s, but I am just going to consider it December 3 still. I hear you on big babies. They said our guy was 1 pound, 1 ounce. What a little chunker :) I guess that makes more sense though if I am 23 weeks.

chris'slady: That's horrible. I cannot even believe that! And I thought it was bad when a rude fellow shopper butted in and told me not to bother registering for something I was registering for since "no one would ever buy that for us" (we actually already got it). Anyway, people are crazy. I'm sorry you had ot deal with her. I would complain too.

congrats to teresita, rosa, and janu on your BOYS and katmg on your GIRL!!. How many do we have for team GREEN?

oh, what fun times.

teresita i know this was a while back, but i just wanted you to know that yes, i AM still running. But, very poorly. I've been getting out 3 or 4 times a week for 3 or so miles, but sometimes its more of a walk than a run. I get SO tired.

chris'slady man, how awful!! That's certainly NOT what you wanted to hear, I'm sure.

rosa wowzers, someone actually said that to you while you were registering? how very rude.

QOTD no stabbing pains here except for occasional gas pains. :rolleyes:

My biggest discomfort these days is my back is starting to bother me, AND my fingers are getting swollen from the heat i think. i'm nervous that i won't be able to wear my wedding band for the whole pregancy. anyone else have that problem? i'm considering buying another cheapo band to wear, but i'm just not that excited about that idea. i don't know how much of it is heat and how much of it is pg related. sigh.

have a good u/s msnicolea!!

mandersald: Yeah, she just rudely busted in to our conversation and told me no one would ever buy it. It was stuff for making the house safer - not very exciting, but something we wanted to be sure to get. Anyway, we registered for a whole bunch of it and already got it all as a shower gift at our first shower. Goes to show what she knows. What business is it of hers anyway?

My vent for the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now mind you we just found out today we are having a boy and i am sooo excited... So i get to work and walk into a co-worker's office (about 4 share the office) co-worker 1 (female) says to me "oh look at your tummy! oh your showing more and more (uh duh) anyways i said yea i am getting bigger and told her we found out the baby was a boy she was happy yadda yadda yadda. So co-worker 2 (male) looks at me and and says " ohhhh your stomach is vacant" meaning there is nothing in my stomanch WTF!!!!and I'm like ummmm we saw the baby today im pretty sure there is something there so i let it go cus he is a sob... As i leave the room #2 shouts "so how many more months?" and i tell him about 4 and half, he goes "oh great they are going to be hell" WTF!!!!
It really really upset me to no end and i started to cry. he totally killed my buzz what a fing a hole.

So i go to my cubie and decided to call him and tell him to keep his comments to himself about my pregancy. I think he was taked a back by it (I usually never say anything) cus he apolozied to me but still it hurt my feelings. I wanted to back and cuss him out but i stopped myslef.... JERK!!:D

I am at home taking it easy. I am now on bed rest for the next month possibly. At my u/s my cervix was funneling a little and the perinatal specialist wants to monitor it. So I am at home with my feet up. He feels my commute 1.5 hours each way so it is about 3 hours a day in the car.
After he checks me next week hopefully I will be able to work from home.

Congrats to everyone who made a happy announcement! What's up with all these boys? Something in the water? ;)

Ugh, STILL fighting nausea and dry heaves, even while heading into my 20th week. Getting verrrrrrrrrry tired of feeling lousy. :(

chris'slady-Yup, I agree that the saleswoman was pretty darn thoughtless. Given my history, I would have felt justified to say "What do you care? You'd still get the commission!" but that's just me being snotty. :o

Edited 'cause I must have cross-posted with Kimmer. Hey, girlie, hang in there and hopefully everything will work out. If you do get stuck on permanent bedrest, stock up on People and Us magazines, get a subscription to NetFlix and know that a healthy baby in the end is worth it all.

Just noticed Kimmer's post. Sorry to hear about having to go on bedrest due to funneling. I also had funneling happen at 27 weeks. Hope your bedrest works for you, I have been on bedrest since week 22. Has your doctor mentioned possible steroid shots at all? I mentioned them at 27 weeks and the doctor said at 30 weeks would get them. Something to mention in case your peri doesn't mention it. Ended up getting them after an appt at his office. Good luck

i'm nervous that i won't be able to wear my wedding band for the whole pregancy.
I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring since Dec 2002 when I was 2 months pregnant with my son. My fingers swelled so much and then the weight gain and I haven't been able to wear it since. And don't get me started with feet because with my first pregnancy my feet grew a whole size bigger so I had to get rid of all my shoes because they didn't fit anymore. Oh the joys of being pregnant. :D

Edited to add:
Kimmer...sorry you are on bed rest. I hope you can work from home. When I was pregnant with my son I had a 4 hour commute, 2 hours each way.

Thanks Soph, Erica and Tink

I am cool. My auntie gave me a ton of movies :) and books. I am also working on a blanket I have been crocheting for two years.
I am hoping to be upgraded to modified bed rest soon.

Erica - what are the steroid shots for?

Tink- that was a heck of a commute! With me the distance wasn't the problem just traffic was soooo bad. On a clear day I can make it in about 30 -45 mins

sorry kimmer. Steroid shots are to help the babies lungs mature, should they classify you as having the chance at pre-term labor. Since you are already having some funneling so early, they may treat you as pre-term. I was high risk before getting pregnant, now I am high risk for pre-term labor. You get 2 shots 24 hrs apart. I hope that your funneling goes away and you don't need the steroids. If you have questions about any of it, please feel free to pm me. There is a thread about bedrest on the boards as well. Good luck

Girl!

Honestly, I was surprised as I thought for sure it would be a but we are very happy! I may even have to go shopping tonight for the heck of it. The tech said everything looked good and she weighs about 11 ounces. I got a few pics but don't have a scanner. One was a profile, one of the feet and once showing the girl parts. Now to decide on the nursury decor, etc. I'll definitely be spending lots of time on the internet looking this weekend!

OK, I have nothing at all to report, aside from a huge case of envy to everyone who knows the sex of their babies, but haven't posted in forever... I can't wait for Aug 15 - seems like such a long time - for my next u/s with my new OB.

I'm also having some pain when I eat - like the last pregnancy. Alas, I fear the heartburn is here for the duration and I"ve stocked up on tums.

On wedding rings - I went out and bought a cheap band for my ring finger last time around when my fingers started swelling, but it never got so bad that I had to take off my real wedding ring. Dunno about this time.

These twins seem pretty calm - I sometimes feel someone swimming around, but not a whole lot. Guess they must be pretty little, although I'm HUGE. I had a guy at work ask me last week if I was due soon. LOL. Um, no, not quite halfway....

Nicole-Woo hoo for team blue! Both 12/15 and both boys...we are living parallel lives!;)

***

As for me, I STILL haven't felt him kick. What is up with that? Is anyone else desperate to feel it but haven't yet? I feel like I"m the only one.

Yesterday I worked from home because of some serious elephantitis of the feet. For about a week now my feet have been swelling immensely and I"m only 5 months so I called my doctor and she said that since the feet unswell at night, that I shouldn't worry. She said it's probably the heat (it had been over 100 for a week). Now that it's cooling off, they didn't swell as much today. But yesterday I did stay home and elevated them all day and it worked wonders.

Hope you all are feeling fantastic!:)

Please update my DD to 12/15. Thanks!

Wedding ring-With the last pregnancy, I took off my ring at 3 months for fear that it would have to be cut off. This time I'm almsot 5 months and so far so good. However, my feet are swelling like Mobox's but I suspect it's from the heat. I've swelled out of my favorite pair of flats so I've been trekking around in sandals and one decent pair of stretched out pumps.

Mobox, your not alone in non-movement. I feel the occasional swimming motion but I honestly suspect it's more of wanting to feel something than actually feeling something. The last pregnancy had a bubbling feeling as the first movement so I'm still waiting for something similiar.

My Mommy Brain affliction only allows so much information to be processed at a time so, I defer from doing SOs and leaving someone out. This is a general CONGRATS to all who have found out the sex of their baby!

I just wrote a really long rant regarding my last Doctor’s appointment and my login timed out or something. Agghh. It’s been on of those days. In a nutshell, according to my Doctor, I was well on my way to a pre-Trim Spa Anna Nicole Smith post-partem body if I didn’t “watch my sugars and fats. And, if it tastes good, don’t eat it.” Coming from a man who bears a striking resemblance to Santa Claus, I was horrified. (I have gained 20 pounds in 20 weeks and last month was a BIG month. Three glasses of orange juice a day plus another two pieces of fruit is partially to blame.) So, I signed up at babyfit.com and am counting calories and making a point to do some sort of light exercise every evening. Never in my life have I thought twice about what I was eating...so, I’m slightly bitter. If I still gain a lot of weight between now and the next appointment with my new psycho-strict but nutritious diet, I’m throwing in the towel, kicking my feet up and eating a diet of assorted flavor of bon bons. I sort of like the stretchy waistband in all of my maternity clothes ;)

Kimmer While bed rest does not sound appealing, at least you know that you doing everything you can for your baby. I am impressed with your optimistic attitude! You are an inspiration to all of us.

Ok, anyone else getting sick of the baby using your bladder as a trampoline? I regularly feel a series of thumps on my bladder that send me tearing off to the nearest restroom only to be disappointed by the “flow.” I can now locate the restroom in Target, Home Depot, 7-11, etc.

Wedding ring Still wearing mine. I think my body may be a little more acclimated to the heat due to living in Florida humidity soup.

BRU I hate that place. It doesn't surprise me that the clerk said something insensitive. I would have found a manager right then and there. If she said it to you, it most likely that this was not the first time the clerk made a comment to a shopper that was out of the realm of "standard customer service." I have yet to run across anyone there who could actually answer any of my questions regarding their products.

FMS - sorry about your doctor's appt. Yuck! I really believe there is only so much we can do about weight gain - up or down. Sure, try to eat a healthy diet, but I'm not going to beat myself up over a bowl of ice cream here or there. We won't even talk about that thread in Chit Chat about Taco Bell! ;)

QOTD Wedding Ring: I'm still wearing mine and I haven't noticed much swelling, but like fms I think my body is used to summer-time heat and humidity down here in Houston. I fully intend to buy a cheapo-fake ring should I outgrow my real one.

Boy/Girl count: I can't believe the amount of boys we've got in here! My little girl is going to have her pick of the boys, I guess! ;)

Names: Anyone started working on this? We have our name picked out but we are not sharing it with anyone IRL. My mom and best friend are really frustrated with this and keep trying to drag it out of me. We did tell everyone that we're having a girl though.

fms~ I sorta understand with the appt/weight gain thing. At my last monthly appt my ob brought up my weight gain b/c I had the biggest change in weight gain at that appt. She didn't make me feel too bad or anything, but did mention that I might want to go for a walk around the block in the evenings because even that little bit of exercise might help. So I've made an effort to walk for 20 minutes on my lunch break Mon-Fri and do additional walking (even if it's inside an air-conditioned Target) on weekends as well. I'm also trying to cut down on my snacking, instead of having 2 granola bars I'll have 1 or whathaveyou. :)

BOY oh BOY! Literally! I can't believe how many there are for the blue team. I was thinking the same thing as Kat. My little princess will have lots of adorable princes to choose from.
Congrats to everyone who has found out their gender recentley.

I have been having more of a dull pressure in the morning normally after eating. The weird thing is that is is normally only on the days I work. My Dr. said it could be Heartburn.

Sorry to all of you girls who are dealing with rude comments. I cannot even imagine what I would say back if someone tried some of those on me.

Nothing new to report. Madison is moving like crazy. Dh felt her 2x last week.
We got the crib set up this weekend and are picking out paint colors.

Just want to say congrats to everyone who found out the gender (sorry but I don't want to miss anyone)! It's so exciting hearing everyone's news and I just can't wait till I have my u/s on Monday!

Kimmer-sorry about the bedrest. I hope it is only for a short time. Hang in there.

Weight gain - I have gained 17lbs so far and I am 19 weeks. I am not thrilled with this because I still have a lot of weight from my last pregnancy but I am just doing what I need to do to feel good. If I go too long without eating or don't eat enough, I feel sick so I just keep on eating, and eating, and eating. Oh well.

Oh, just to make everyone feel better, last pregnancy my OB said it's not how much weight you gain but how much you lose afterwards that matters! :)

Rosa, Janu98, and msnicolea Go Team Blue! Congrats on your baby boys!

Kimmer Sorry to hear about the bedrest, but best to be safe, right? I hope everything looks good at your next appointment. I think you’ll like working at home—especially when pregnant. It’s nice to be able to wear whatever is comfortable and put your feet up on your desk and not have to worry about weird looks.

Sophia I am so sorry that you are still battling m/s. My heart goes out to you—I don’t know how I would manage it one trimester of misery is more than enough. I hope it lifts real soon.

fms Sorry your doctor is on you about the weight thing. I wouldn’t stress too much—it sounds like you have a good plan. And yeah, I could write a guidebook to restrooms in my area. I swear I pee like every five minutes.

Wedding Ring With my DD, I was able to wear my wedding band all through my pg although I did stop wearing my engagement ring (which is ¼ size smaller than my band) around 7 or 8 months. So far, no problem with my rings fitting.

Names Everyone keeps asking us if we have a name picked and we haven’t even talked about it. With DD, we waited until after we knew the gender, so we don’t even have a list of boy possibilities. I think we may start preliminary talks soon since my DH is impossible to deal with when it comes to names.

All is going well here. Feeling lots of movement, still have a good amount of energy, showing a lot more than I did with DD, but thankfully no rude comments so far.

I need to get my arse in gear and walk more. I have gained a lot of weight (19 or 20 pounds) and I look really big, but it is literally like a basketball in my belly and no weight gain anywhere else except my bbs.

I went to a college reunion last weekend and they all kept calling me "Bodacious Mo." Funny, eh? I guess my bb growth really shows!!! My goal was not to go over 40 pounds and so far so good. But I could use a little more exercise. My friend just gave me a prenatal yoga video. Does anyone do yoga here?

Rings--Still wearing mine. They are a little tighter but still fit and come off with no problems.

BRU - I could seriously go off on a rant about how much I hate BRU. Every time I have gone there to buy a registry gift, no one helps at all. At least in Target I can find the stuff easily. We have decided to register at Target and The Right Start. Check it out: www.rightstart.com It's a great store.

Does anyone do yoga here?

I haven't yet, but am planning on starting soon. I found a studio only ten minutes from my house that offers prenatal yoga classes twice a week. My plan is to just go once a week since I can't make the other class. I'm hoping there will be other beginners, so I don't look like a total idiot since I have zero yoga experience. I'll let you know how it goes!

Well, ladies, after a week of hit or miss internet access, I can finally post! Congrats to those who have had ultrasounds!!

After all the drama with getting a doctor's appointment (the office cancelled three appointments), I finally got in today! It was the first doctor's visit this pregnancy. I also got to have an ultrasound. DH and I were thrilled! :) Our little one is doing well -- heart, spine, kidney, stomach, bladder, legs, hands, etc. It was great to see our baby!

We also decided to find out the gender. We're having a GIRL! The tech wasn't 100% sure, since the baby is breech and she had a hard time getting a good shot. However, I've thought all along I was carrying a girl so I'm 99.9% sure. :p

Kimmer, sorry to hear about the bedrest. Hope it's not long-term. :(

yoga: I used to do yoga several years ago and loved it. I thought about getting a pregnancy yoga tape because I think the stretching would be awesome.

rings: Didn't have any problem with this last pregnancy but I also didn't swell last time. This time, it is so stinking hot that I wouldn't be surprised if I had trouble wearing rings soon.

names: We've tossed a few around but now that we know the gender, we'll get down to serious business. We probably won't officially decided until the baby is born, though.

Good Morning!

Big u/s Number 2 this afternoon so wish me luck!

Congrats to everyone who has found out their little munchkin parts so far!!

Yoga - I do yoga and I love it. It's great to both exercise and then relax/meditate all in one class. So good for anyone and great for a big hot pregnant lady.

I just wanted to point out to the ladies that want to get started that a class doesn't necessarily have to be a specified "prenatal" class for you to participate. Many qualified teachers are certified in prenatal yoga, they just don't have a specific class for it. Talk to the studios around you about it. I am still going to the same classes I went to pre-pg, my instructor just tells me how to modify the poses that aren't suitable for me.

Oh and don't worry about being a beginner. There's always a beginner way to do every pose. Then you just ramp up as you get better.

:) Allison

yoga: I have been doing a yoga video and really like it. I am also going to sign up for a class once a week. I have also been doing prenatal pilates (from a book) and LOVE that even more. But both leave me feeling great!

low-lying placenta: I was told that I have a low-lying placenta (like placenta previa, but not as bad - it doesn't cover the cervix). They said it would probably move up on its own and even if it did not, I would just need a C-section. But I was wondering whether anyone else has dealt with this or knows anything more about it. Thanks!

I realize that I never posted any u/s pics, so I figured I should. He was moving A LOT, so it was hard to get a very good picture. That's why I am really glad we have it all on video. I am having another u/s in a few weeks, so hopefully I can get some more good ones, but here are a few:

AllisonHope to hear soon.

Well I finally called BRU yesterday afternoon, and asked to speak with a manager, he finally got on the phone, i told him the whole story that i was shocked especially since it is a baby store, he was pretty shocked i take it too when he did'nt say anything i told him that i did'nt want to get anyone in trouble but maybe he should have a meeting seeing how if us "pregnant girls" don't buy anyhing they dont get paid, out of nowhere he asked if my mother and i could come in would it be inconvenient, and i said well we will be out shopping we can stop by , he asked what i'm having i said girl, then we hung up. So my mom and i went asked for him etc, we talked with him for about 15 min he had a $65 diaper bag filled with tons of stuff and a envelope with a 50% coupon off of my final purchase he apologized over and over again, but of course i feel great for all the stuff but i feel alot better for saying something. and i did not get anyone in trouble, although he knows who it is.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! We are having a baby girl!! Helpin' to even out the odds and make our December team a little more purple.

This u/s went SO MUCH better than the last one. Funnily enough, it was the same tech. I came to the conclusion that her underwear was too tight last week and it was making her surly. This week she was so much better. I told her as soon as I walked in that I'd like her to try and find out the gender and she said "No problem." She turned the screen so I could see better, she told me more about what I was seeing and she even stopped in the middle to take some "cute pictures" (see below). Granted, at the end she forgot to check for the gender again but this time I was ready. I didn't move and I said "Um, could you just check for the gender?" She said "Oh yeah, I almost forgot." (Almost?) But it didn't matter, she turned the screen back on, checked and sure enough, girl parts!! Shawn is so excited. He thought we were having a girl.

Ok, here are the adorable photos:

Thumbsucking:

How cute is our little girl? So cute!

Rosa - Awesome pics. So detailed, I love them.

Chris'sLady - You handled that beautifully and from the heart. You didn't respond out of anger or spite but out of concern for subsequent new Mom's who could be hurt. Well done. I'm glad the store manager took steps to rectify the situation and that you got a nice gift in turn for your effort to make their store a better place. :)

Hope everyone else is doing great!

Thanks, everyone!! We're thrilled! (Although I would have been equally thrilled about a boy--a brother for my son!)

Congrats, Allison!

I read an article that said that the most popular months for births were July, August, September and that November and December were the least popular months. Maybe that explains why we have a lot less mommies than the summer threads.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing much new going on here, except that I had a horrendous skin breakout all of last week (itchy, red, peeling irritated skin literally from head to toe + eczema flare up). Made it to the local walk-in clinic Friday evening and saw a doctor Friday evening who confirmed that I have very atopic, allergic skin. Instead of getting watery eyes and runny nose as a form of allergic reaction, apparently it manifests itself in my skin in the form of a head to toe rash that burns, itches, and stings and I couldn't keep from scratching it. I have an arsenol of moisturizers: Aveeno, Cetaphil (both body and facial), Eucerin calming cream, Eucern redness reducing facial creme, Aquaphor, vitamin E oil, 2 types of cocoa butter lotion, an aloe vera plant, etc. NOTHING helped. :( Well she prescribed me some steroid pills to take for a few days, which she said would be ok to take while preggo, and I tell you, by Saturday morning I felt like a new person. And still feel that way. I'm also to take a Claritin every day from now until forever (also okayed by my doctor) so I've stocked up on those thanks to Costco. :D I feel like I can actually finally enjoy this pregnancy without the curse of red, itchy, blotchy, peeling skin constantly pestering me at all hours of the day. It was affecting my sleep as well as all of my waking hours. :D
Congrats to Allison and bluebunny on your little girls and NJMom on your boy! (I was typing while new posts were being made.)
Congratulations to all of you who are having your u/s today! It will be interesting to see how the count develops.
Rancid...sorry to hear about the rash. Wear mittens and don't scratch ;)
Threadmistress...please update me to SURPRISE.
We spent last weekend on a mini-vacation in Chicago. The weather was gorgeous and the lake breeze was terrific. We spent a lot of time checking out the travel systems the parents were using around town. I bought two cute Mimi shirts on clearance at Marshall Fields but that was the extent of the baby related shopping. Overall, the trip was a welcome retreat from work and the house. It's funny that we kept thinking of all the things we'll have to change about our vactions once the baby comes. Usually, we walk a ton in every city that we visit. Our hotel (the W City Center) bumped us up to a small suite so, we had the use of two bathrooms, a sitting room and a huge bedroom. The hotel is very chic...not sure what types of hotels I will want to frequent once the baby comes along. Our (late 4th anniversary) dinner on Friday evening was probably the most elaborate/epensive meal I'll eat for a long time. The restaurant was called Alinea and is argued to be one of the best, if not the best, new restaurant in America (it ranks with French Laundry in Napa, etc.) We opted for the 12 course meal and my DH did the wine flight. I was a bad Mommy and had one half glass of a white wine and one half glass of a red wine...I really miss wine. The food was unreal as was the bill...it was a last hurrah for us. As a sidenote, we ate at Ed Debokovic's the next day for a total contrast in style/food/etc. I am still fretting over the number of calories I consumed during the course of the weekend. The only redeeming factor is the number of miles we walked...a lot. I was disappointed that I got tired more easily than normal. I will be glad to be rid of the extra weight and the winded feeling come January. The rest of the weekends in August are pretty much shot as we will be traveling in two weeks and then for Labor Day. The remaining weekends are already booked with plans. I'm very much looking forward to a relaxing September.
For anyone flying on the near future...take a water bottle with you. I can't drink enough today and was thirsty yesterday when I was flying.
Back from my u/s and I am relieved to say that everything looks good, despite it all taking 2 hours! Yes, you read that correctly. The tech was really having a hard time getting measurements due to the babys positioning. The doctor came in finally with a resident and he was having a difficult time too. Even though the tech said everything looked good, it really made me nervous when the doctor said things like "I can't see the four valves of the heart" or "I wish I could get a better look at the spine". Thankfully he also muttered things like "Here are the feet and they aren't clubbed" and "Here's the open hand with the five fingers" and "Oh beautiful. Look at that tracking" (not sure what that meant but I was relieved to hear it). Finally, with a lot of poking and prodding and some repositioning, he was able to get some acceptable views so that we were able to tell that there were no major defects. I am physically and emotionally exhausted so I'm going for a quick nap now but I did want to stop by and see what news everyone else posted.
Congrats to Carissa and NJMom!
Rancid__ So sorry about your rash. My SIL had a rash her entire pregnancy and she was miserable. I'm glad you aren't itchy any more.
Sandy__That bedding is adorable!
***
My SIL has been holding her crib and changing table (converts to a bookcase/dresser) hoping we would buy it. After inspecting it yesterday, we are definitely going to buy it. It is in perfect shape...it's Bellini so you know it was expensive to begin with and she will sell it to us for $500. Not bad, that's the price of just a new crib anyway. So we are stoked about that. Here is the crib, but it's the darker cherry finish with the changing table/dresser on the far right.
Hey all. Thanks for commiserating with me on my u/s. Rancid, the doc and tech did get all the measurements needed so although there will probably be another couple of u/s' in the distant future, we're set for a while. That's okay. I honestly just want a healthy pregnancy with a happy ending and this u/s showed that things are looking good so far. No guarantees but, hey, I'll take what I can get. :p Both the tech and the doctor took a guess at the sex and they both guessed the same thing. However, they both seemed so unsure thay I think I'm going to take the guesses as exactly that. GUESSES! Maybe a future u/s will be a little more definite.
I'm lounging at home on vacation for a week so if there are any administrators with DSL, could you update the thread? It will take me forever to do it from home with our dial up and my DD is not going to let me take forever. :rolleyes:
Hope everyone is doing well!
I think we need some more belly shots in here! I want to see how everyone is growing :) Here is mine from last night to start. I had not taken one in a long time:
Oh, and we ordered this glider this weekend, in brown microfiber:
And this bedding (Zanzibar by Kids Line):
We are doing a jungle themed nursery. I originally wanted to do something more sophisticated, but DH loved this one and convinced me that the baby would enjoy this a lot more. I think it will be fun. Of course, we did not get all of the pieces in the set!
I am just in a picture-posting mood!
Hi All!
WOW! So many boys!! It's so exciting to hear all the news! And the great part is that there are enough surprises to keep things way interesting in December!!
I'm so glad to hear about all the healthy babies! We are a very lucky bunch.
I'm in love with all the nursery furniture and bedding that people have been showing. Shawn and I are going tonight to start some serious nursery shopping. We've decided to put up a chair rail and paint the top half of the room cream and the bottom half in cream, brown and pink stripes. Before we start though, we need to buy the furniture so we can match the brown paint to the wood. On the top half we're going to frame picture of our pets and all our friends pets and basically have it be a "furry friends" room. Here is a pic of one of our pets that I'm going to put up:
Pumpkin:
I'm going for a very cosy soft feel. It's hard though, I see those bright beautiful colours in some of your bedding and it makes you second guess. Maybe the next room, right?
Rancid - I'm so glad the steroids helped with the allergic reaction. It's amazing how good just feeling normal can feel after something as all encompassing as that. I have that euphoric relief feeling whenever a really bad migraine finally goes away.
Allison, that is an absolutely beautiful photo of your cat!! I love the idea you're going with - the soft colors sound incredibly comfortable. Can't wait to see the photos because you are going to have a one-of-a-kind room.
polydactylcat~ Congratulations on your BOY!! I'm glad to hear that things are developing fantastically with him!!
bluebunny~ They're pretty sure it's a skin thing, that my skin is reacting this way to (quite possibly) all the pregnancy hormones right now.
sandy~ Thanks for the bedding website!! I'm loving the colors and design, off to check out the site!!
rosa~ Cute belly pics! What is the pricing on that glider, and do they have a matching ottoman also?? I'm definitely getting a glider/ottoman set but am having a tough time finding one that's affordable.
sophia~ Well at least the u/s tech/dr was able to get the needed measurements this time. Hopefully the next time baby will be in a more cooperative position to see 'things' better, heehee. ;)
allison~ Cute kittycat picture! If I wasn't so allergic to them, we'd totally have several by now, I love cats.
Here are some belly pics I took last night:
Rancid: Thanks! You have a very cute belly too :)
The glider was $400 and they do have a matching ottoman. I got it at USA Baby. It is hard to find a nice quality stuffed glider for less than $500, I have found. Best Chairs has a lot of nice ones though - some for a bit less and some for a bit more than mine. You can order them in many fabrics too, which is nice!
rosa My niece has that bedding set in her nursery and it's sooo cute! Her first coherent words were bird and turtle because of those wall panels. So cute!
All these cute belly shots! My belly isn't so cute. I think I'll spare y'all from seeing it.
I'm still here! Its been sooooo long since I've posted. Work has been SUPER busy, so I've only had time to post in my LJ and even that has been slacking. Our weekends have been very busy too. We tend to have a lot of company in the summer so we are always on the go.
I had my big u/s on July 26, and baby looks well, so that was a relief. I had surgery before getting pregnant to remove a septum in my uterus, so it was good to hear that things were progessing normally. We're not finding out the gender, so you can add me to the SURPRISE group. :)
m/s FINALLY went away at 20 weeks. Yes, you read that right. :o I've been feeling pretty good lately. I'm definitely getting big, I've been thinking I should post some belly shots in here and on LJ.
Huge congrats to all who have found out the gender! I can't believe how many boys there are! FWIW, my friends list on LJ also has TONS of new baby boys. Is 2006 the year for boys or what? Can't wait to find out what all of us surprises are having. :) Glad to see that everyone is doing well. :)
Sandy, I hear you on this one; I cannot even post my belly shots in my journal, so you girls will absolutely not see my shots in here ;) Rosa’s tummy is so nice and rounded, mine looks squire, I am not sure why, but I have one funny looking belly!
rileymom~ SO glad to hear that all is looking well with the surprise baby!! And very glad to hear that m/s has finally gone away for you (knock on wood!). Mine didn't appear until I was on day 1 of my 2nd tri, and it stuck around for a good couple of weeks before (thankfully!) going far away. :) 2006 is totally the year for boys...I'm in the Nov 06 Mommies group too and we're at 18 boys and 12 girls so far...
Congrats to the new Team Blue and Pink members!! and to everyone else that has received good news in their u/s appts!
Not much new to report. My mom purchased our crib at USA Baby over the weekend so we shopped for that. I did get the Pali Mia crib in white that I posted earlier. I think they said it could be 6-10 weeks before it is in so I am glad we ordered when we did. I also saw some of the Best Chair gliders that Rosa posted. I am 99% sure I want one but still need to measure the room to make sure there will be enough room for one. I am not getting a changing table to that will save room.
Anyone seen the attachments that you can screw into dressers so the changing pad is secured or is that even necessary? In any case, I just want to put a changing pad on the white dresser that is currently in the room.
We also stopped on Bellini after USA Baby. Boy do they have cute bedding that is $$$$$!! I just keep comparing everything I have seen since to some I saw there but we'll see what happens.
Sandy - I checked out the website you also purchased yours from and saw some really cute ones there that are less expensive than Bellini so I have to go back to the website and spend some more time exploring. Thanks for posting that!
I have been bad and have not taken any belly shots so really need to do that.
Hey girls, I had my doc appt today. I voiced a few of my concerns including:
1. Very watery discharge
-She checked the vaginal secretions and said normal. She thinks the watery part could be urine being pushed out. Sounds pretty gross but I guess incontinence is not so uncommon.
2. The fact that I haven't felt him kick
-She felt me and said I was "large" and then measured my belly from pubic bone to breast and said "hmmm...your measuring quite large." I asked her what that means and she said it could mean excess fluid. But then countered that by saying that since all the ultrasound measurements were normal 2 weeks ago, there was no need for worry and some women just carry larger. She wants me to come back in 3 weeks for a new measurement and if it's still larger than normal, they'll send me for another ultra sound.
I'm sure I've mentioned that my MIL was an OBGYN nurse for 25 years. So I called her to get her take on what my doc said. She said that she carried excess fluid with my SIL and that it can be a symptom of water on the brain of the baby, but that since the measurements were normal 2 weeks ago I shouldn't stress about it.
I can't help it! I just keep thinking, what if something is wrong? I'm really worried...but then again, we heard the heartbeat and it was strong so maybe he just isn't moving around a lot or I'm missing the movements or there IS excess fluid but it means nothing but that's why I haven't felt him yet. I have so many questions and concerns, but I'm trying not to stress too much.
Anyway, sorry for the VERY long rant.
Love the belly shots! Everyone is showing and looks great!
Rosa--Zanzibar is sooo cute! We were going to go with that one and then DH decided he liked the jungle one at Target better. Love it!
Congrats to the new Team Blue and Team Pink members! Glad to hear about all those healthy babes. :)
mo - 1)Yeah, I wrote a whole thing about incontinence in my journal. One of the many things I'm choosing not to share with DH. :p
2) Of course you're going to be worried, but try as best as you can not to be. I mainly feel movements in the evenings when I'm laying down and paying attention. Otherwise, I think they are probably still too faint to feel when I'm busy at work, etc. Hope the next 3 weeks go by quickly for you!
Mobox Sorry you are feeling worried right now. I still worry about everything too, despite the fact that we have heard the h/b several times and baby looked well on u/s - I keep thinking what if??
FWIW, I am about as far along as you and like katmg I really only feel him/her when I am laying down in the evenings, and even then they are not hard "kicks". I usually go all day without feeling movment. If I remember correctly there was a thread in FP about being 24 weeks and still not feeling movement and many others chimed in and said they felt movement later too.
mobox sorry that you are worrying. Maybe they can get you in for an u/s just in case. I wouldn't want you to have to wait 3 more weeks. I feel this baby so much more than my last pregnancy. I am sure your baby is in there kicking away and you will feel it soon.
mobox Do you know where your placenta is? That can have a lot to do with feeling movement. I am sorry you are worried.
mo~ I'm sorry to hear that you're worrying! I totally understand though, and would be worried myself (heck, I have been, even after the dr told me not to!). :) Baby just might not be moving in the right ways for you to feel him yet. If the dr says the heartbeat sounds strong then I'm sure he's doing just fine in there. And the 'kicks' don't always feel like kicks, they actually feel like any type of random internal movement, from bubbles or butterflies, to what might feel like gas, to a sort of popping sensation, to a rolling feeling. Very odd feelings, but over the last couple weeks I've only felt a handful of what actually felt like kicking sensations.
pacificbliss
08-09-2006, 11:13 AM
mo it's hard not to worry but I'm sure the baby is wriggling around in there and is just in an odd position. I don't really feel kicks as much as rolling or flutters with the occasional jab. Also, I notice it more after exercise and only when I'm really still. Yesterday I really felt him in the pool. Maybe you could try that?
It's so fun to say him now and mean it. I forgot to mentio one thing about my u/s, the tech said I have a low lying placenta. She did an internal just to make sure it wasn't a previa. It isn't. I'm not too worried as I'm told they usually move up but just thought I'd mention it.
Oh, another thing for mo, I think I mentioned this before but a Mom on a recent flight told me she did not feel her daughter move until 8 months.
mobox
08-09-2006, 02:52 PM
Whoa! Eight months is really far along eh? Well, I did get some more info on excess amnionic fluid. Here's what I found:
read up on it last night and it's called: polyhydramnios. It can caused by several things including if the baby is having problems swallowing. Two thirds of cases have no known cause and resolve themselves. The ones that don't is what I'm worried about. It can cause a lot of issues including preterm labor, placental detachment, and umbilical chord issues. Sometimes they have to extract the extra fluid with amniocentesis. It's all very scary to me. I'm trying to stay calm though it's really hard. I just keep thinking about the worst case scenario. Dave tried to calm me last night...he said, "Our little dude just likes swimming in an ocean, not a lake." Cute but it didn't work.
I also read a great thread in Pregnancy where several mom's had this syndrome and everything came out find. YOu most definitely have to have a c-section because of the likelihood of the chord coming out before the baby. Since all the genetic issues have been ruled out, I've read that it could be caused by:
1. No reason at all
2. Gestational diabetes in the mother
2. Small hole in the heart-fixed with surgery
3. Esophugal or digestive problems-also fixed with surgery
Right now though, I'm just going to relax my brain and try to take it easy. thanks everyone for your thoughts and reassuring words. It helps more than you could ever know.
Mo - I'm sorry you're scared. I hate it when my brain won't turn off. Most likely, you just haven't felt the baby move just because you haven't. Lots of people don't until way later (as many have said already). The heartbeat is strong and I'm sure your little dude is doing great.
I went to yoga last night for the first time in 3 weeks b/c we've been so busy and I wished I hadn't been gone so long. Besides the fact that I hadn't been in 3 weeks, I've gained weight since I was last there!! So I was out of practice and heavier. It was great to go though. I just don't want to miss so many in a row anymore. I really want to keep up with my exercise and my breathing throughout this pg, I think it will be good in the long run for labour and beyond.
Shawn and I are going to drive a little ways out of town on Saturday to visit a really nice baby furniture store called "The Baby's Room". Their stuff will probably be way too expensive but I still think it will be fun to look. After that we're going to pick out paint and buy the chair rail for the room and then we're going to go see:
