hi ladies!!
had my appointment today. it actually was very anticlimatic, which i'm taking to be a good thing. we spent a few minutes chatting and asking questions, and then she found the heart beat. it was the first time i'd heard it with the doppler since they couldn't find it last time. anyways, the baby's heartrate was in the 140s, so all is well. but, we did make our appt for the big u/s!! the big u/s is july 26th!! even though we're not finding out the sex, i'm still very excited!!
on other news, yesterday in the office i saw a girl who i haven't seen in all summer. and the first thing she said to me was, "are you having a baby?" while looking at my tummy. i was sorta surprised since i didn't think it was *that* obvious.
and speaking of tummies...i'm not such a fan of people obviously staring right at my belly. um, hello!?! you know i'm pg, but there is no need to gawk at my belly!!
also, anyone else a hormonal monster? i've been so gosh darn emotional lately. its very pathetic, and i KNOW that its because of the pregnancy, but yet it still doesn't make it any easier.
teresita just like jenchicago said, metamucil is definately NOT a laxative. Its just fiber therapy to help you stay regular. I have been taking 2 doses of citrucel (i think it tastes better than metamucil) every day for a while (even before i was pg) with no blowout problems. i would be very uncomfortable if i didn't take it.
jenchicago that is a very cute thing to do for celebrating the sex of your baby. are you going to do it?
rancid wowzers! good luck with your u/s! please update us as soon as you can. :D
kimmer glad to hear all is well with your pains. i can feel my uterus growing a bit too. the top of my uterus is now just below my belly button. but, i've also noticed that my abs get really sore really quickly if i work out. maybe sore muscles too?
allison cute dress!! i'm in maternity clothes full time now. i need to find more bargain finds like you because i feel like i'm wearing the same thing every day.

Oh, emotional, I totally forgot to tell you guys this. On my flight back from Boston they showed two movies on the plane. The first was a Disney movie called Eight Below about a sled dog team that gets left behind in Antarctica for the winter. I cried so hard on the plane it was embarassing. The flight attendants kept bringing me tissue and asking if everything was ok. I finally had to fess up.
Also on this trip I had the first stranger touch my belly. We were taliking at a networking thing and I mentioned I was pg. She quickly reached out and rubbed my belly. I hated it!!! Before when I told people I was pg they would immediately just stare at my belly and that was bad enough but this! It caught me off guard and I didn't move fast enough.

Belly Rubbing - My friend was telling me that when she was pregnant she had all kinds of people rubbing her belly without asking. One day in an elevator a stranger reached out and rubbed her belly, so she looked at her totally straight-faced and said, "I'm not pregnant." The woman leapt back in embarrassment and horror at her mistake and only then did my friend tell her, "No, I really am." I can't wait to try that one out on people! :D
Coworkers - I have a couple of coworkers that are kinda annoying about the whole pregnancy thing. They have to bring it up in every.single.conversation. I guess I just didn't realize how private I am until I've got people bringing me up all the time. Hopefully the novelty of me being pregnant will wear off soon! (I don't mean to sound bitchy, I'm happy to answer questions and talk about the pregnancy, I just don't think that being pregnant relates to every subject under the sun - especially at work!)

Hi girls, at my last doctor’s appointment doctor gave me a brochure on the baby classes, and today I went to their website, just to check them out and see what they all about, and got a sticker shock on the price of the classes.
So was wondering if any of you have looked into the classes and where they just as expensive? I am not sure if it is a normal price, or is it too high?
Here is the link to the site:
http://birthu.com/fees.html
Thank you girls!
Have a great weekend and holiday!

Veeka Wow that is expensive IMO Dh and I paid 25 for our course at our hospital and that included 2 Saturdays each 4-5 hour session and they had food and drinks for us there for free.

Childbirth classes~DH and I are going to a hospital orientation & tea next Weds, after our u/s. I'm going to find out more about the classes they offer, like dates and availability, which they don't have on their website.
As far as prices go, here's the rundown:
Their regular prepared childbirth class costs $90, Saturday childbirth class + lunch is $125, cesarian only class is $25, childbirth refresher is $50, preparing for postpartum is $25, breastfeeding class is $25, baby saver class is $25 and baby care basics is $25. They also have private childbirth instruction for $200 per couple.
pacificbliss
06-30-2006, 05:47 PM
veeka that seems high to me. At our Medical Center the rundown is as follows (all prices are per couple):
childbirth series (6 2 hr sessions) $70
birth center childbirth series $50
childbirth basics (one class) $20
infant care $20
breastfeeding $20
Infant CPR $40
It's so nice to hear that everyone is doing so well! I had another u/s yesterday (the nice thing about twins is I get seen about every two weeks and usually get a quick u/s!) Everything seems to be going swimmingly. Speaking of which, I just ordered a maternity swimsuit from gap. It was on sale, and honestly my BBs are so big right now I'm embarrassed to be seen in a regular bikini!
pacificbliss - I hear you on the changing clinics. We move in 3 weeks, so I have one more u/s with my current doc at 16 weeks, then an appt with a new OB on August 15. I don't know if we'll be able to tell the sex of these kids in two weeks, or if the new guy will do an u/s in August. I hate waiting!!
bellyrubs I was lucky in that no one tried to rub the Buddha with my first pg, so I kinda hope my luck holds. I know they mean well, but it does give me the creeps.
classes My kids will be 18-20 month apart - depending on how early the two pop, so I think we're going to forego classes this time around. Although I'd like to find a CPR class again - that I could do a refresher on! I have to wait until after the move to really explore the options, though.

Hi everyone! Things are good over here. Everyone around me has started commenting on how I'm showing now. I thought I had been, but maybe I just looked fat.
Question: Has anyone considered using a doula?
The reason I ask is I have an industry associate friend who said it "was the best thing my wife and I did for delivery." They were both very anxious about childbirth and said that the doula was a godsend. It got me thinking because the thought of hiring one had never crossed my mind. Thought I would post it here and get your thoughts.

hi girls-
glad to hear everything is going well for everyone!!
childbirth classes veeka, that does seem a little steep to me for just two evening classes. We're doing Bradley Birthing classes (http://www.bradleybirth.com) which i've heard are just marvelous, especially for having a natural child birth, getting dh involved and being informed. This is a 12 class series, and all together that is $225. Although, they don't start until September, which means since its 12 weeks long, that puts the last class at the end of November. If this baby decides to come early, we'll miss a class. Hmmm.
doula Yes, Mobox, we have considered hiring a doula, and I'm not sure if we're going to go through with it or not. My friend who did bradley classes says that the classes really help coach dh to be active in childbirth which makes me think that we might not need a doula. but my dh is sorta quiet and timid and i'm thinking i'm going to need some more serious in-your-face kind of encouragement. But, i have heard wonderful things about using a doula. It also depends on how much support you get from your ob or midwife. The midwife group that we're in (there's 2 of them) are wonderful, and i've heard wonderful things about them during labor. so, i'm not sure. good luck though!
hope everyone has a lovely 4th of july weekend!! (i have to work on monday though. :( )

Only 10 more days and I get to find out the sex of my baby! I think its a boy and I will be shocked if its not.
doula: I've never really thought about it. I know I want an epidural ASAP and I usually only hear about people using doulas when they are trying to go natural. Anyone want a doula that's not going natural?
breastfeeding: Is anyone else completely freaked out about breastfeeding? I don't know what my problem is, but I'm more worried about that than child birth. I keep thinking I'm not going to know what to do and I won't be able to get any help at the hospital.
Rancid13

Question: Has anyone considered using a doula? We're definitly considering it. I need to ask my doctor if they allow doulas at the hospital, first of all before I go about finding one. I was reading about them in both a pg book and a pg magazine, and I'd really like the support and know-how of someone who is there just for ME and knows what she's doing.
Hubby's reaction was, you'd rather have some stranger there for emotional/physical support than me, your husband? And my answer to him was no, I'd want someone there alongside of him, who actually knows how to help alleviate pain and help me to get thru this because they've been there done this before. If that makes any sense.

Doula I have considered it. I was all set to get one when I was pg previously but this time with the cerclage I'm not really sure what is going to happen labor wise. I've thought about getting a post-partum doula that could help with breastfeeding and infant care, etc. Not sure how necessary that is though.
Breastfeeding This is something I'm really determined to make work. I've heard so many horror stories about people on CC having trouble with it that I really want to be as prepared as I can. I think that if I educate myself first, that will help. Then I'm making sure that I have resources that I can contact for any problems. La Leche League, Lactations Consultants, etc. Both my mom and MIL bf so they may be of some help too. I've also got the name of a store in town that can be helpful with nursing problems.

Hello,
It's so hot, it's 90 degrees today. Thank goodness for the breeze. Yesterday we went to the fair and even just standing there in the shade I was sweating.
I am so excited for those of you finding out the sex soon! I won't know when we get to do that until after my midwife appointment August 2nd. Wednesday I have the last appointment at the old clinic.
belly rubs this has not happened again since the Boston incident.
doula we looked into a doula before I found the birthing center. Now that we are switching to midwives I think we might not use one. Still, I think they can be very helpful, especially if you are trying for an unmedicated birth. rancid13 my understanding is that the doula can also help your hubby. Theremay be times when you are in pain and dh feels like he is at a loss to help and the doula can suggest things for him to try and coach him as much as she coaches you. DH might find that reassuring.
breastfeeding like katmg I am definitely committed to making this work. I have also hard some horror stories and know of a few women who could not make it work so I plan to line up a professional I can call at any time of day or night. I think the birth center has people to call or you can just drop in but I will check.
I have a new one for everybody...
childcare has anyone started working on this yet? A friend of mine freaked me out with tales of long waiting lists so I have sent away for some info and will start checking places out. We have to have my salary or at least part of it so I can't stay home full time. I like my job and think I would want to go back anyhow. These decisions are so tough. I don't think we'll need anyone until March at the earliest.
HAVE A HAPPY 4th!!!

Not much going on here. Just feeling a little overheated and moody. I think most of it is due to the fact that I have had to catch up on some work today when I really wanted to have the day off. Went this morning to have blood drawn for my AFP, so I should have the results next week at my OB visit.
Classes We won't be taking them again this time around, but my hopsital charges $160 for the package of childbirth, breastfeeding, baby care, and becoming a parent (4 classes) and then CPR is another $30 per person.
Doula I don't think so. DH did surprisingly well as far as support and coaching go during my labor with DD, and so I would rather spend that $$ on something else.
Breastfeeding I BF'd my DD for 19 months and hope to BF the next one that long or longer. I am very committed to it. It can be challenging at first, but for most people it gets easier and the payoff is worth it IMO. In my experience, all lactation consultants are not equal, and it can really make a difference to find a good one. The ones at the hospital where I delivered were just ehhh, but the one I saw on my own was fabulous and a huge help. She also taught a BFing class that DH and I went to, and it was great and made DH a huge supporter of BFing (and hence he was incredibly supportive of me in the early weeks when it was a bit more tough). If you are interested in BFing, I'd recommend going to a LLL meeting while still pg and getting some recs for good lactation consultants.
Childcare I work fulltime but from a home office. (My company shut its office down before I was pg with #1 and now we are all "virtual.") We have a nanny who cares for DD from 8-1 every morning, and then I work more while DD naps in the afternoon and in the evening and on weekends while DH is around. I am hoping our current nanny sticks around since she is fabulous and we love her. We'll just have to bump up her salary when #2 comes.
I hope everyone has a happy and relaxing Fourth of July! :)

I hear ya on the heat! It was 79 AT the beach today, usually it's low to mid 70's there (near downtown Huntington Beach). Whew! When's this heat wave gonna be over??
I did tell DH that about the doula, because he was a bit leery at first that I was trying to replace him in the delivery room; I explained a little bit about what a doula does, and found the article I had read and had him read it as well. He's much more receptive to the idea, I think it would be a great help to the both of us in the L&D situation.

Hello Ladies!
Things here are good. I had my 15 week appointment yesterday and it went very well. Shawn came and we answered LOTS of questions about our health and family history. I had bloodwork and a urine sample taken and she did a mini-physical. I had a small amount of protein in my urine. She said the urine culture would tell more but that it could be normal for me or that it could be a sign of an asymptomatic UTI. Has anyone else had protein in their urine? If so, what was the cause? Was it normal for you?
My blood pressure was below normal. It was 82 over 52 and a systolic of 90 is the low end of normal. She said it was fine though. She said that the only thing was that I may have some problems with getting light-headed when I stand up, so I'll just have to be careful.
Other than that, everything was really good! She heard the heartbeat and said it was very strong! YAY! I booked my next appointment for July 31st and I have a requisition form for my 18-20 week ultrasound so I have to call and make an appointment.
I think we've decided to find out the sex of the baby, which is strange for me. I always thought that I'd want to wait and let it be a surprise but now that I'm actually pg, I feel like I want to know who this person is inside me and find out as much about them as I can. Funny how things can change. Shawn was supportive either way but I think he really wanted to find out, so this works out well!
Classes - I definitely want to take some classes but I haven't looked into them yet. The midwife said they have lots of info when we want to look into it.
Doula - I've been thinking about this as well but my midwife is so nice and nurturing, and there will be two of them at my birth, so I'm not sure if a doula will be necessary.
Breastfeeding - I really want to make this work. I know that a lot of people have trouble so I'm going to try and prepare myself as much as possible before the baby gets here.
Hope everything is well with everyone!
:) Allison

Just checking in...had our BIG ultrasound a short while ago. I'm a bad person, so I'm not even going to try to mask my disappointment when I say that we're not having the girl that we both wanted.
It's a boy. That's all...I'm sure I'll get over it in time.

I am back from a long trip, visiting my family and DH's family. I just wanted to post that My BIG u/s is July 31! I am so excited. But WHY are they making me wait until I am almost 23 weeks!? I am SO impatient!!! I just cannot believe that I am almost 1/2 way through this pregnancy!
I had another check-up right before I left and heartbeat was so easy to find again. But the baby must be moving a lot because the doctor had to keep chsing it around my belly. It was 145-150 this time - a lot lower than last time.
I went on a major maternity clothes shopping spree while I was with my mom. I love Destination Maternity! I found a great tankini there. It is adjustable, so it will be great as I grow over the summer. It is so much more flattering than my old bikinis, which my BBs were popping out of.
DH and I are going to register this weekend at BRU, and I am so excited about that. We will go back and add stuff after we know if we are having a boy or a girl, but my MIL is really impatient to get the invitations out for our August 26 shower, so we are going to go. It is going to be a lot of work!
Classes:I am going to sign up for birthing classes, baby care classes and first aid/CPR classes with DH. He really wants to do it all. I am just doing the ones through the hospital.
breastfeeding: This totally freaks me out and I am not sure what to do about it. I have inverted nipples (sorry if TMI) and my doctor said it would be very difficult, but not impossible. I guess it just scares me because it is hard enough for many people anyway, and the extra issue is going to make it really tough. Does anyone know anything about this?
doula: I think it sounds great, but my DH is really outgoing and excited about going to classes and everything, so I think I will do well with him coachihg me. We have lived away from friends and family for many years, so we are so dependant on each other for everything. We are just so close that I think he can do a better job than anyone on helping me through it.
movement: Has anyone felt movement? I have heard that most poeple feel the baby move by 18 weeks. I am still not sure whether I have felt anything. I *think* I have felt some moement, but I am not sure. What about everyone else?
I promise to be back in here more now that I am back at home!

Belly It is definitely growing. I need to take another belly shot soon. I made a comment to a coworker this week that I dont get looked at in the eye anymore. Everyone looks at the belly first. LOL! I have been getting lots of belly rubs. I dont mind though. No strangers yet.
The funny thing is that my boss(male) actually made a comment yesterday that I was looking more pg. Many of the ladies here have but he caught me off guard.
BF I am VERY determined to breast feed. My mom is an unofficial lactation consultant. (she did adoptive bfing with my lil sis) She helps many new moms through our church and teaches a new mommy class. I am so blessed to have her. If it is something she doesnt know she knows who will have the answer.
Doula I am not planning on a doula. We have a MW that will deliver and again my mom has been a couch to many deliveries. I am counting on her.
Classes I was just thinking last week about when to sign up for classes. I am planning on asking at my next visit. Not sure on prices yet.
Rancid Congrats on your little boy. Sorry you are disappointed. I am sure you will get more excited soon.
11days til our big US! We can't wait.

Oooh, I love all the cribs. I wonder if I can talk DH into doing some window shopping this weekend?
I heard the hb again yesterday (160 bpm). DH hasn't heard it yet but he will at my first midwife appointment. I think that will make it more real for him.
Rosa I will have to check into Destination Maternity. I have not been able to find a swimsuit.
Movement I have felt little flutters that I think are the baby...DH thinks it's gas

Hi everyone, glad to hear everyone is doing well. I am still in normal clothes but have worn maternity jeans. I did do some shopping last week at Motherhood and stopped at JC Penney with my mom on Tuesday. Surprisingly, they had some cute things on clearance. Got a few shirts, pants and a realy cute pair of capri/gauchos. They are not online to show you but they are my favorite so far. I still need a pair of shorts for when we go to Florida in a few weeks. I also went and looked with my mom at a store and Babies R Us. We looked at cribs...I'll have to come back and post what I like so far. I'll probably wait a few more weeks to buy though. She is getting that for me. Lord, all the options on strollers, car seats, etc is overwhelming but I have done some research and have a few good ideas.
Classes - was planning on signing up after my next appt. I have the brochure with all the info from teh hospital though. The child birth class is offered over a sequence of weekdya nights or on long Saturday. I am not sure what we'll do yet. Plus there are a few others I want to take.
B/F - I plan on trying but am not going to stress over it. I always joked that I have small boobs that it would never work. We'll they're growing so we'll see :D
Doula - Not using one. Will have D/H plus probbaly a midwife since she does most of the delivering in teh practice I go to.
Feeling the baby - I think I ma still early for that but can't wait!

Rosa & Marteneym - ooooh, more nice choices. I'm really excited to decorate the nursery.
Rancid - Congrats on your baby boy! I'm sorry you're disappointed, but as others have said, now you have lots of time to get used to the idea and start to get excited. Think of the little tiny running shoes!! Oh, and completely unrelated, I noticed you own a Prius! Me too!! I have a 2005 in Salsa Red. I love it.
Movement - nothing yet. I have a feeling I'm not going to know what it is when I first feel it. I can be dense that way.
:) A
:p nursery My parents are buying the furniture and have been pestering me to pick something out since the night we told them. Seeing as how we are sticking to not finding out the sex, we're doing general neutral decorating. Pottery Barn Kids had some cute animal related (unofficial theme) bedding on clearance so, I bought it. I also bought two art posters for the room.
breastfeeding I had a meeting at another office today. When I went into the ladies room I hear a "whosh, whosh" noise...it was a Mom pumping in a stall...freaked me out.
Classes I signed up weeks ago to knock it off of my "list"
doulapretty sure we're not getting one
Belly My belly button is going away :(
Movement I think I may be feeling something...this is much different than gas...which I'm an expert on :p

hi ladies-
ooooh, love all the cribs. Seeing you post those sent me on a mission this am to find one that i liked. and, that turned out to be a silly adventure because there are SO many choices and I have NO idea where to begin on that. i do know that we don't want to spend a lot of money. i did see this in target the other day.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00009ZVN6.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
at first i didn't really like it, but the price seems nice, and it gets good reviews from baby bargains. plus, its super simple, no fuss. we might be going down that route, although not sure.
breatfeeding i am going to be SO dedicated to make this work for us. thank you teresita for setting such a great example and bf for 19 months. I have also heard that going to LLL meetings is very benefitial for pg ladies. My friend bf's her 24 month old, and she said that anytime you can watch women bf newborns, that it really helps. Also, i've been reading a book called "The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers," by Jack Newman. It is really good, and rosa he does talk about nursing with inverted nipples.
fms my belly button is going away too!!
movement i *think* I might have felt something this week. Not sure, really, but it wasn't gas. ;)
I'm having a prenatal massage today!! I'm SO excited. I'm addicted to massages (had one at least once a month pre-pg) and was really bummed during the first trimester when the mw told me to wait.
exercise who's been trying to exercise? I have been "running" and have been having limited success with it. I get so worn out so quickly (even though I ran a half marathon a few weeks ago) and then I notice that my abs get really sore afterwards. My mw suggested a belly belt. Anyone have any good ideas on those? I'm also doing prenatal yoga but i'm finding I have little motivation to stay active. Ugh, I could really use an energy boost.

exercise: I am walking a lot (in my neighborhood which has killer hills). I also do some prenatal yoga (I got a video) and I do lunges every day to prevent a "jello butt" :p. Does anyone feel like their butt changed since PG? Mine isn't really any bigger, but it seems that it instantly got less firm. Weird.

Nursery - My mom is getting all of our furniture. But she is stressing me out b/c she is over the notion that we can wait until November to order the furniture. I have tried to explain to her several times we need 6-8 weeks. I have a feeling my baby will be sleeping in my nightstand drawer when he/she comes home from the hospital:rolleyes:
Breastfeeding - I am so jazzed about this, I really want to make it work. My mom did it with me for 2 months and about one month with my brother she said he really wasn't interested. My granny said she never tried it I was shocked. But they are all so excited that we are going to try. I feel I will be watched closely:p
Classes - On my list they are not very expensive, well the ones at my hospital. I just really don't know when to sign up. The little schedule I got from my doc says pre-register at hospital at 30 weeks, I wonder if this is when we will do the tour:confused:
Doula- Nope my mom will be there she is an RN and was a L/D nurse for about 6 years. Between her and my hubby we will be well covered.
Belly - My belly has defiantly popped. I got my first stranger rub a few days ago. It wasn't so bad but the lady came at my belly with not one but TWO hands. I had no way to run.
I am full time in maternity, my regular t's are almost too short. But the doc sad at my last visit this is going to be a big baby. I was 8lb 10 oz and my DH was 9lbs (I can't imagine his mom is tiny). I think being 5-4 is not helping my cause.
No change in the belly button that I can see, I have a DEEEEP innie and it is still in maybe the depth has been reduced, but I can't say for certain.
Movement -I can't feel a darn thing.

Rancid Congrats on your boy! I’m sorry you didn’t get the girl you were hoping for, but I am sure over the upcoming months you will start to fall in love with the idea of having a little boy. It may take some time, but by the time you meet your little guy, I am sure you and your DH will feel that he was the baby you were meant to have. My DH really wanted a boy last time around (and again this time). When we found out we were having a girl, I know he was disappointed even though he didn’t voice it much. But, when our DD came he was so in love and such the proud Daddy.
Chris’sLady I sometimes get sharp pains/cramps if I let myself get too dehydrated or if I over exert myself. Maybe try drinking a bunch of water and resting (if possible) next time they hit?
Rosa While inverted nipples can make breastfeeding more challenging, many women with inverted nipples are able to make it work. I think a nipple shield can sometimes help to draw the nipple outward for the baby. I’m sure if you posted in the breastfeeding thread on the parenting boards here, you would get some good feedback. Also, here's some info from the Kellymom site: <http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com/invertednipples.html>; <http://www.breastfeeding-basics.com/html/flat_inverted.shtml>;
Movement I think I have felt movement here and there. It’s not nearly as consistent and noticeable (i.e., hard kicks to the ribs) as it gets later in a pg, but I have felt some flutters. But, who knows, it could have just been gas.
Cribs I love all the cribs that have been posted. We have this http://www.greatbeginnings.net/sorelle/images/870.jpg(Sorelle’s Rosa in pine on oak) for my DD and have been very happy with it, so we may just get another of the same. (DD will still be using hers when the baby comes since it converts to a toddler bed.)
Exercise I’ve been running, but have cut back a lot from what I did pre-pg. Right now, I am just running 4-5 times a week, 3-4 miles each run. I miss my long runs and my hill workouts, but my doctor wants me to take it easy. I have been feeling good on my runs, but every now and then I will feel a little crampy. I think I may have to look into a belly support belt soon since I am getting BIG. I also bike once or twice a week. I plan to run for as long as I can (i.e., as long as I feel physically comfortable doing it). Then, when I can’t run, I plan to substitute walking, biking, and also want to find a pre-natal yoga class. I also need to work in some lunges and butt exercises. I swear my arse did not get the memo that it is the stomach, not the butt that is supposed to grow during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding One more note about breastfeeding, the breastfeeding thread in the parenting section is awesome! When I was pg with DD, I lurked there and read along and learned so much. Keep in mind that many people who post there are not those for whom BFing goes seamlessly, you will see lots of posts from women with challenges, struggles, etc. But in a way, I liked feeling sort-of prepared for a worst-case scenario. It really is a great source of info as is http://www.kellymom.com/
I hope everyone has a great weekend!:)
ETA: Kimmer I just saw your post. You can share my horror story with your mom to motivate her to order the furniture sooner. With DD I was due the end of July (she was born on the 24th). I ordered my nursery furniture the first week of May, so almost 3 months in advance. Our crib just made it in time (like less than a week before she was born), but the bureau/changing table didn't get in until a couple of weeks after DD was born (mid-August). And, the store had assured me it would be in by the end of June! Best not to wait to long!
Ack! I'm such a delinquent! Will try to catch up quickly:
Nursery we move in a couple of weeks, so I'll have to see what happens once we're there. We'll use all the furniture from DS, and add an extra crib. The decor will likely wait until we find out the genders.
Breastfeeding I BF'd DS for 13 months, and rarely had problems. I found the breastfeeding thread here great, and the Moms with Pumps thread was also really good. I plan to BF the twins, but realistically have already decided to supplement with formula from the start, rather than have to beat myself up over the stress of BFing two. My goal is to get them breastmilk for 2/3s of their intake, and see how it goes.
doula Nope, going with the OB and nursing staff here.
Movement Yep, I can feel them swimming around! DH keeps touching me belly hoping to feel them, but it's too early, sadly.

Teresita: Thanks so much! I will check those out.
movement: Now I am SURE I am feeling movement! It happens many times over the course of the day and some if it is pretty strong, leaving no doubt as to what it is. It is just so fun and cute to think of him/her squirming around in there. It is funny how just a few days can make such a difference. My DH keeps touching my belly when I say I feel something, but he has not been able to feel it. I think he will soon though!
We registered this weekend at BRU! It was lots of fun and now my MIL can finally relax. She wants to send the invitations out soon for our August shower and was getting impatient for us to register. We are going to need to add more though, once we know if the baby is a boy or a girl.

It's been a long time since I posted in here so I'm not even going to attempt to catch up with SOs. I hope everyone is doing well.
My non-stop queasiness abated at about 13 weeks--yea!! :) And, surprisingly, I got a big dose of nesting hormones last week and have gotten some things accomplished around the house. We moved into a new house about six weeks ago, right in the middle of my feeling yucky all the time so a lot of things fell by the wayside. This weekend we worked on projects around the house and I feel so accomplished. We won't start working on the baby's room until the fall but I already have lots of ideas. We almost finished my son's big boy room this weekend. It came together great.
Movement: I think I felt something yesterday. I felt my son move for the first time around 16 weeks, too. I can't wait for the movement to be stronger!
Nursery: We'll start on this in the fall.
Breastfeeding: I'm still nursing my son (20 months old) and plan to nurse this one as well. I'm kindof hoping my son will wean before December but if not, I guess I'll tandem nurse. I never, ever thought in my wildest dreams that I would be nursing a toddler, let alone nursing while pregnant, but I love our BF relationship. We had a lot of problems in the beginning (poor latch, thrush, etc) so I'm really happy that I persevered and we made it this far.
Doula: Doulas are free at the hospital where I delivered DS. I planned on having one but we arrived at the hospital just in time for DS to make his appearance so I didn't need one. I am thinking about a midwife/birth center birth this time around but will definitely ask for a doula if we do have a hospital birth.
Exercise: I walk a mile or two in the evening and run after DS during the day--does that count? ;)
Classes: Last time we took the Breastfeeding Class (I highly recommend taking one, with your DH!) and the hospital tour. I didn't take the Labor classes because I wanted an unmedicated birth and the Labor class spent more time on how to get through labor until your epidural instead of how to have an unmedicated birth. I won't take any this time but I will re-read The Bradley Method book by McCutcheon. It's awesome.

Sorry I've been a bit MIA these last few days after my u/s post on Weds night. I was still feeling quite a bit down about the results but am slowly starting to be able to accept the fact that we're having a boy, not a girl. :)
I'm finally posting some ultrasound pics, only the ones that are actually clear and even I can make out what they are. All of them have titles from the u/s tech, but I keep looking and looking at several of them and can't make anything out.

As far as movement goes, I haven't felt a thing yet. Sometimes I think I feel something, and I'll stay really still with my hand on my belly, but the only thing I can feel is my own heart beating (which is pretty strong in my abdomen!)

AmyE I wish! I could do a little cleaning, see some museums. I have been to DC a cople of times but still have not seen it all that's for sure.
It's funny, the whole thing started with wanting to clean out the room that will be the nursery. Somehow, I could not do this until the house was clean. In the end the house was clean but I had no energy for the nursery. Oh well.
Rancid13 Those u/s pics are great. It's one of the few I have been able to look at and figure out how they came up with the sex. I have been trying to come up with ways to cheer you up. I'm sure you and DH will come around to the idea. If it doesn't happen sooner I'm sure it will happen when he's born. I would like a boy but won't know for a few more weeks. They say boys are nicer to their moms. :)

Rancid: Such cute u/s pictures!!! It's weird about the boy/girl thing. I always thought I would want a girl really badly. Once I got PG, I started thinking about all of the good things about boys, just to get myself excited for either. At this point, I think I have talked myself into wanting a boy!

Thanks guys!
We're slowly coming around, so to speak. :) We both still agree that little girls have the cutest & most fun clothes though, after poking around at BRU over the weekend (mainly to look at gliders/ottomans). Baby boy clothes either have to do with sports or dinosaurs it seems, which get boring after awhile to be honest.

Hello All! Sorry I haven't been around much lately - I was in Boston for a brief vacation with DH! So glad that m/s wasn't an issue and that I wasn't so huge as to be cumbersome walking around. :p I did wish I was showing more though - it bothered me to think that perfect strangers were thinking I was fat instead of "with child."
Rancid - I like the footprint picture! I have a similar one that our tech took at about 11 weeks. She told us the foot was measuring 3/4 cm. :D I too agree that boys don't have the cutest clothes and I have to admit I do fantasize a bit about little girl things. I have to remember something I read on CC once that was written to someone who just found out that they were having their 2nd boy - "Perhaps you were meant to be surrounded by wonderful men." I kind of liked that sentiment. I hope that you are finding peace with your little man on the way.
Movement - Nothing here yet, but it is still early.
Cribs - I like the cribs posted! We're actually going to go with a non-convertible crib but those are gorgeous cribs. We haven't decided which brand/style yet but I'm sure DH will be bugging me about that soon!

I love it.
:) Priuses are awesome! I've had my car for just over 5 months now and love love love it! I got rid of my little 2-door Saturn which was 10 years old and had 180K miles on it because I knew we were starting a family soon (but didn't realize it would happen as quickly as it did!).

Rancid-I can't tell you how many people I know who desperately wanted girls but had boys and wouldn't trade them for the world now. I know that I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know but I want you to be okay with mourning with your dream daughter. With my first pregnancy, I remember thinking "OMG, I'll cry if I've got two boys in there" and thinking I was the worst mother for thinking that but it would have been true. I would have loved them once I got used to the idea but I would have been disappointed at first. This time I am totally certain that we are looking at "BOY" all the way and my U/S the first Monday in August will prove me right in joining your "boys" club. Hey, start thinking of a secret handshake! ;)

Nope, that's no typo. #2 is due on the same date as my DD's birthday. She was due in January though, so we're hoping that her sibling decides to make an early appearance as well.
The first trimester passed without much incident, I did catch some sort of flu-like bug (which is how I found out we were expecting) but other than that, no MS, which is a departure from my last pregnancy, where I spent most of the time inside a bathroom.
I'm excited to "meet" you all!

Welcome and congrats Polydactylcat
My Big U/S is thursday so I have been super excited but now that it is close I'm really nervous I can totally relate to you Rancid, but its a totally different I want a girl so bad since i was a little girl to put bows in her hair the pink nursery play barbies, shopping etc. but DH wants a boy so he can take him to football games etc, but DH says he will be happy with either one because it is a blessing from god, so i hope i take whatever it is well, so i just wanted to let you know you werent the only one feeling the way you do.
MOvement I feel flutters sometimes like someone is tickling me underneath my skin and i have to scratch :) but nothing big and that might even be ligament stuff.
Nosebleeds I have them atleast 3-4 times a day, and my nose gets stuffed up every once in a while. But doc says its normal and huge symptom.
in 2nd trimester has anyone else had them?
Rancid- I love the U/s pics eveything is so clear.

Are any of you guys having trouble sleeping? I am 16 weeks today and for the longest time i can not find that "comfortable" spot. What do you do? I am thinking about getting the snuggle pillow? i think thats what it is called do you think that would help??
Also are you guys still wearing heels? I bout a pair of wedges over the weekend and hubby doesent want me to wear em cus he thinks i could fall but i hate wearing flats!!!

07-11-2006, 08:03 AM
Janu98 I'm at the point know were i cant sleep on my belly it hurts and is way uncomfy and i cant sleep on my back i almost have a hard time breathing :) Which stinks casue i get teh best sleep in those positions ive gotten myself use to sleepign on my sided i put a pillow in between my legs it is very comfy, I heard those pillows are great, I just have been using one of my feather down pillows.
oh. the heels i cant give them up my family freaks when i walk they are dertermine dim gonna fall i also hate flats i jsut cant do it i love the extra slimming adn height in heels but i wear lots of wedges its kind of like a compromise they are leveled but still high.

sleeping: I was having tons of trouble sleeping, so my DH insisted on buying me a Snoogle (body pillow) at BRU. I was trying to be good and not spend $ on it, but he insisted (probably because I was keeping him up too :o ). Anyway, I love it an sleep so much better. I have always slept on my stomach, so I was having a hard time getting used to my side. My hips would hurt after a while, and the regular pillows were too thick. The Snoogle is heaven. My DH wants one for himself now :D
shoes: Oh, I'm crazy about shoes. I still wear heels all the time. Even later, I'm sure I will wear wedges, not flats. But I am so used to them, I doubt I would fall any more than I would fall while walking barefoot.
classes: I signed up for birthing classes - they are in October (5 classes). I also signed up for a baby care class for me and DH. If I add the breastfeeding class and baby CPR and First Aid for both of us, the total will only be $180 for everything, which I thought was pretty good. Plus, you get a free infant massage class after the baby comes.

Shoes- I'm still wearing heels. Mainly because those are the only shoes I have for work! I plan on going and getting some smaller heels and flats that I can wear to the office. Some of my heels are really high and I'd rather not look like a potato on toothpicks if I can help it!
Sleeping- I haven't slept all that well since I found out I was pregnant. I used to sleep on my back and still do sometimes. I absolutely cannot sleep on my stomach - never could. So, I sometimes find that sleeping on my right side is fairly comfortable. It's hit or miss as far as how well I sleep though, some nights great, other nights, not so much.

I think i will still wear my heel shoes but i know my family will freak out!! oh well whatever! its not like there stilletos!:D
i have checked the BRU here and they dont have the pillow? maybe out of stock do you know a good website that i can get it on? I just want a good nights rest! Also we have a queen size bed will it fit? meaning will DH have to be booted OUT?? j/k
Here is another one of my crazy fears!! since i am do around Xmas time i am worried that my OB will want to induce me earlyc cus who wants to deliver a baby on Xmas!

janu98: Hmmm... I just saw it in the BRU near me the other day. They were probably sold out at yours because they still carry it. It is on their website too. I found it under "gift ideas", then "expectant mother". Anyway, we have a queen size bed and it fits fine. But my DH is not a huge guy or anything, so I guess it depends.

Welcome and congrats Polydactylcat! :D
Sleeping - I am so not comfy. I love to sleep on my back but DH freaks out and makes me turn on my side. This weekend we were at BRU and I picked up the wedge pillow, what a JOKE it is soooo small it really irritates me rather than helping me. DH suggested the snoggle but I was like no this would be fine. Now I am ticked I didn't get it.
katmg-...I'd rather not look like a potato on toothpicks if I can help it!
Haa haa that is a funny visual.
Shoes- Haa I am still up on my wedges, but quite wobbly. :p I think my balance is starting to shift. Strange but I just can't do flip flops every day some of my pants are too long.

My Big U/S is thursday so I have been super excited but now that it is close I'm really nervous I can totally relate to you [B]Rancid, but its a totally different I want a girl so bad since i was a little girl to put bows in her hair the pink nursery play barbies, shopping etc. but DH wants a boy so he can take him to football games etc, but DH says he will be happy with either one because it is a blessing from god, so i hope i take whatever it is well, so i just wanted to let you know you werent the only one feeling the way you do.
Rancid- I love the U/s pics eveything is so clear.
Those were the only u/s pics that came out clear enough that I could tell what they were. There were several others that have titles (ie: face, etc) but no matter how long I stared at the picture or if I turned it upside down or sideways, I could not make out a face. :) Very exciting about your upcoming u/s!! Fingers crossed!!
Movement~None yet! Every time I think I feel something and lay really still with my hand(s) on my abdomen, all I can end up feeling is my own heartbeat, which comes thru suprisingly strong in that area. ??
Nosebleeds~Every now and then; I've definitely been more congested than 'usual' and thus have been blowing my nose more often, bringing on the occasional nosebleed.
Sleep~I have not had a decent night's sleep in weeks, and I'm so exhausted all day every day. I'm literally getting really tired of it. Like janu98 said, no position is comfortable, and lying on my left or right side is really getting old to me. I bought a Boppy Snuggle pillow from Burlington the other day, but it's so big that it doesn't really do me any good at this stage (will likely help with support as I get bigger down the road though). Maybe I'll look into a Snoogle too. I'm fine sleeping on my back, as it's the most comfy position for me (no pains or problems w/breathing), but don't like it when DH gets after me for doing so.
Shoes~I'm a sneakers or flip flops girl anyways, but I've worn heels once maybe twice since I found out I was pg (for my grandfather's memorials). I plan on wearing them again (they're more wedges than heels really) for my upcoming 10-yr HS reunion. Hopefully I won't have any balancing issues. :o
Classes~ We got a brochure the other night at our hospital's orientation & tea, and I've marked all the classes I would like us to take. I gave it to DH to choose the days/times as he's the one with tough work hours, and will check with him later to see if he's sent it in.

Congrats on your boy Rancid!
Movement-I have felt flutters for a while now.
Classes-I didn't take any childbirth classes the first time around and I am glad because I ended up with an emergency c/s so they wouldn't have helped me. I will be signing up for a CPR course & first aid though to renew my card.
Crib-we didn't buy our crib with my son until he was a few months old. He slept in a cradle the first couple of months, ha, or in the hotel room since we moved cross country when he was a week old.
My big u/s is AUG 17 I can't wait to find out if this baby is a boy or a girl!

snoogle DH is telling me I need to get one.
sleep I have not been sleeping well at all and it is keping DH up. Last night I had some dream that left me scrounging around under my pillow looking for something. I remember it pretty clearly. DH asked me what I was looking for and I kept giving him nonsense answers. He just kept asking and I remember thinking I am still asleep, can't he tell, I'm making no sense, I wish he'd quit asking me questions. Finally I came up with, "I'm looking for the third plant food spike." To which he says, "oh, that makes sense and quits asking." I thought, finally! but kept looking for a while anyway.
movement I have been feeling flutters for a while but for Rancid I need to say that I never feel them on the outside, like with my hand, only on the inside.
shoes I pretty much only wear flip-flops unless I have a business meeting and then I wear heels or wedges. Well, I wear tennis shoes to the gym but I think I am switching to the pool as soon as I find a bathing suit. This brings me to
exercise for anyone interested I found a great prenatal yoga video. It's called "Prenatal Yoga A complete home practice for a healthy mother and baby" and is from The Movement Center. I read great reviews of it at amaxon.com, placed an order and then saw it made Fit Pregnancy's highly recommended list. It has 3 routines and 3 deep relaxations so you can mix it up a bit.
Oh, and Welcome and Congratulations polydactylcat!
I completely agree with the comments regarding not sleeping well. I told my DH today that eveyone else is restless as well so, it's not just me...not sure if that makes the lack of sleep any better or easier to handle. Maybe the pillow things will be the answer...
The contractor started working on our bedroom and bathroom this morning. It's going to be so nice to use the master bathroom again. I hate treking across the house in the middle of the night to use the restroom. We have friends who have offered to baby sit if they can try out the shower unit with the jets once it's installed. I just may take them up on that. The project will not be complete for another 6 weeks or so but, I'm elated that we are moving in the right direction. Seeing as how we had to move out of our bedroom while the contractor is peeling the popcorn we are sleeping in the guest bedroom. The cheapo fan we put in the guest bedroom is so loud compared to the nice non-cheapo Hunter fan in our bedroom. My DH declared that we are NOT putting a cheapo fan in the baby's room.
I can't believe how fast time is flying. My big U/S is coming up soon and everyone is dying to find out the sex. There are two camps, the "knowers" and the "surprises" and each wants to impose their will on us...it cracks me up. My sister is coming to visit for a week at the end of the month. She has agreed to help with registering...she is younger but enjoys shopping much more than my DH. My Mom will be thrilled that she can finally send out the shower invitations.
I have a ton of house stuff to get working on so, I'm leaving work for the day! Yippee...leaving work to work some more

Welcome polydactylcat!
Sleep - I agree with many of you...I have not sept well for quite awhile now. Between not sleeping well since I can't sleep on my stomach (may favorite position!) and getting about about 3x a night to go to the bathroom I just don't get the solid sleep I used to get. I used to sleep through the night and wouldn't wake up for anything!
Heels - I do still wear them but have been wearing flats more to work. Probably will still do this as long as I am comfortable.
Here is the crib I am leaning towards but in white. It is by Pali. The room we are using for the baby is on the small size and we are keeping a rather large dresser already in there. I want to get a chair/glider and am debating whether a changing table would be too much. If I don't then I would get one of those things to use the dresser as a changing table. Then maybe if things aren't too crowded w/out the changing table I may get some shelves.

Thanks everybody! I feel very welcome indeed :)
Sleep - is such an issue now because I'm always being interrupted by those pesky bathroom breaks. I've had to use a larger pillow to snuggle up against to which my husband gets upset and says "what about me? snuggle up against the husband?!" Then of course I had to find a polite way to say "you move around too much".
Heels - still wear them pretty religiously, although everyone is starting to pester me about wearing flats or at least kitten heels. I'm having a hard time giving them up because I like to feel tall even though I'm rather shrimpy in stature. I have the same problem as Kimmer, my pants are just too long!! Even the "ankle" length pants from GapMaternity are skimming the floor in my heels. I know, I should just hem them, and will probably have to as winter rolls around and the Chicago roads get slimy and nasty with salt and gunk.
classes - haven't signed up for any yet, although we want to do a hospital orientation tour (different hospital) and maybe a "big siblings" activity class for our daughter.
U/S - should be in the next couple of weeks, we're waiting for the call from radiology to come through. I'm very excited, but feel differently than I did with the previous u/s. Last time I wanted to know so we could plan a nursery and pick out names. This time I want my daughter to see the growing baby (she comes to most of my OB appointments so she gets to hear the heartbeat more than dad) and find out that everything is going smoothly.
movement The kiddo is definitely mooving and grooving away in there, although faintly.
fms the master bathroom project sounds very exciting! We're trying to get all of our "house stuff" done now as well. Does anyone else feel like "we have to get it done now!! There's no time later?!" or is that just my OCD self? I've spent every weekend (almost) since moving to this house painting, prepping, planting, and everything else in hopes of not having to do it when (a) I'm huge or (b) next summer when we'll have to wrangle a preschooler and an infant. Even DH has moved up the plans to put the patio in from next summer to this one just because he thinks he won't want to do it next year. Then he found out it was ok to put in a play set out back (he thought the homeowners association said it was a no-no previously) and now he's fixated on playsets. oy.

I had my OB appt. this morning and all was fine an uneventful. Heartbeat sounds great, AFP test came back negative, and I am measuring right on track. So quick and easy. I scheduled my big u/s for July 28. I am heading out of town first thing tomorrow morning for a business trip, but will happily have DH and DD in tow, so it will be two days of work followed by two days of fun.
Sleep I have not been sleeping soundly at all, and I have to wake up several times a night to pee. It's not that I any more uncomfortable than usual, I just seem to be waking up more. To some degree I am always a little uncomfortable since one of our dogs (who is 60 lbs of dead weight when asleep) always insists on sleeping on top of my legs and feet.
Heels Since I work from home my day to day shoes are flip flops and I stay in those for errands, playgroup outings, etc. If I go out in the evening or just feel like looking a little nicer, I still wear heels--but they're not that high, just 2 1/2 inches or so.
Movement I am fairly sure I have been feeling movement. He/she still doesn't seem as active as my DD. I am thankful I have the doppler to be able to check on him/her.
Welcome and Congrats, polydactylcat!:)

I'm copying and pasting this from my Livejournal post from just a few minutes ago:
Worried...
I just got a message from my dr's office that they received the ultrasound results and something wasn't right. Unfortunately the reception didn't come thru very well as I was sitting in the middle of a drive thru when I retrieved the message, but from the sounds of it, it has something to do with a cyst in the head I think? They told me not to worry but that we would need to get me scheduled for another ultrasound right away and to call to get preauthorization. I just called them back (the missed call was from 10 minutes ago) and got a recording saying that their office is closed until 2pm for lunch. ?!?!?! So now I get to freak out for the next ~2 hours because I don't know WHAT it is or how bad it is....
~And my reply to myself:
So of course I'm in the midst of freaking out here. Since I know little to nothing about what could possibly be wrong with the baby, I googled a few keywords together: "ultrasound cyst baby" and a specific condition kept popping up in almost all of the results. It's called a "Choroid Plexus Cyst" and from the sounds of it, it tends to go away on its own in utero. Assuming this is what the dr's office was calling about. Still worried, am going to request the AFP screen that I had formerly declined as well as another ultrasound as soon as I can get ahold of my dr's office.

Thinking of you, rancid--I'll bet it was just an error with the U/S itself and that everything is just fine!!!!
I've ben feeling pretty unsettled this week because other than many, many bathroom breaks, I'm not really having any symptoms. I mean, there was something very soothing about feeling sick in the first trimester--I almost feel too good these days. I don't really thik anything is wrong--I'm just looking forward to feeling the baby in the next few weeks for reassurance!

Well I never did get a call back, but the husband did manage to get ahold of the doctor's office. Turns out that our baby does have a cyst on his brain. I'm going in first thing tomorrow morning to get some bloodwork done, and they said I'll be contacted right away to get an urgent ultrasound scheduled. They told him that they'd be able to see a lot more with this u/s, leading me to believe it's one of those level II or III u/s I've heard about.
I know I need to not worry about it, etc, but it's really easier said than done. Especially with these dang pregnancy hormones raging, it's tough hearing someone say that your baby has a cyst on his brain. :(

It's been a while since I posted. Work and travel have kept me off the boards in almost a month.
rancid, I'll be thinking of you. It's never easy to hear the word "urgent" when it comes to our babies. Keep us posted!
As for me, I'm nearly 16 weeks. We have a doctors appointment next Monday and I'm hoping we'll be able to take a sneak peek to check the gender but I'm not getting my hopes us. My big u/s is Aug. 14.
I've had a pretty easy pregnancy so far (knock on wood). No real queasiness after week 8. Flew to Hawaii at 12 weeks just fine except for the 1,000 trips to the bathroom. I've been really lucky.
I've been doing pre-natal yoga and pregnancy pilates and haven't gained much weight (maybe 3.5 lbs) but I'm started to get light stretch marks which bug me a bit. Any recommendations on creams? I can't stand the smell of coco butter right now. It's far too strong.
I'll be following along with y'all. I'm just having a hard time getting in here to read and post.

I have a doctor's appt. today and I'll find out about my surgery happening in two weeks. My mom freaked me out by telling me that all the people she's talked to about cerclages have had to go on full-time bed rest immediately after the surgery. Yikes! Not really planning for that - of course, if that's what has to happen, that's what has to happen. You'll just probably see my post count dramatically increasing here! ;)
Rancid - I won't tell you not to worry b/c I know how impossible that is. Just try not to let the stress overwhelm you. Hopefully you'll be able to get in for that U/S soon!

katmg - sorry to hear about needing a cerclage. I know people that didn't have to go on bedrest after a cerclage. You will need to relax for a few days but most resume activity. They did need bedrest as the baby got bigger, meaning in the third trimester.
I'm on bedrest now due to funneling, so if you want to chat if you end up on it, feel free. Good luck

Had my doctor's appt. and got to hear the heartbeat with the doppler. :D Looks like I'm set for surgery in about 2 weeks. Shouldn't have to go on bedrest full time - which is great news! She was talking about the number of cerclages that they do now and how she had just delivered the baby of a woman who had had 8 losses before she came to my doctor, who suggested a cerclage. I can't imagine how awful that must have been for that couple.
Anyway...things look good here. They have down that I've lost weight since my first appointment (but I think they have my 1st appt. and my 2nd appt. weights screwed up) but that's fine with me and my doctor doesn't seem concerned about it. There's plenty of padding for the baby to feed off of! ;)

Kat, I'm glad to hear that you shouldn't be on bedrest after your surgery!
I am SUPER excited b/c I just got back from my friend Jaime's sister's place and she gave me like (and I'm not joking) over $1000 in maternity clothes. I'm not kidding. She has FABULOUS style, is fairly well off and loves to shop so she had all these clothes (some with the tags still on) and she said I could borrow whatever I wanted. Well, most of it fit and looked awesome so I am SO SET! I can't believe my luck. I'm going to go out tomorrow and get her a nice card and some gift certificates for The Keg to thank her. Now I get to wear something other than the pair of jeans I've been living in!! YAY!
Oh, and my big u/s is scheduled for July 26th. Less than two weeks!!
Hope everyone is doing great.

*warning* apparently too much fiber in your diet can cause major gas pains. It's 3:19am and I'm sitting here at my stupid computer because I can't sleep...the gas is rocking my world. Feels like a stitch in my side and my tummy is rumbling and grumbling. Before reading that it was probably too much fiber that is causing this I ate a few dried apricots and drank some milk. Great, more gas. I can't wait to tell people that my one real symptom of pregnancy is gas.
Congratulations to Delany, Chris's Lady, Rancid and Mobox on fiding out the sex. How exciting!

fms - hmmm...I wonder if that's what is causing my gas problems. I swear there are times I feel like I'm going to explode. My DH asks me why I can't just fart and get rid of it. I had to explain that I'm a girl and I wasn't taught to revel in farting - I was taught to hold it in. Makes for some painful situations!

Congrats to those who have found out the gender! I think I've missed a few. :o
Well, I still haven't seen a doctor. And it looks like I won't get an ultrasound. The office cancelled two appointments and changed the time on the third, which I ended up cancelling. I haven't made another appointment because I'm frustrated by the whole thing. Then I get a call from the office telling me that my insurance does not cover ANY ultrasounds (unless there is a problem) and that I have to pay out of pocket for them ($250-300 a piece). I've already had one (at 7 weeks) and now we have to pay for that one, which we aren't prepared for. I'm so frustrated!!
What's the point in pre-natal care if insurance won't pay for procedures? Isn't the u/s at 18-20 weeks to check development--heart, lungs, kidneys? What if there was a problem that the doctors could have been monitoring? You know, I bet Medicaid would pay for it and here I am, paying through the nose for insurance every month and having to pay $5 here and $10 there for bloodwork, $250 for u/s, etc. Ugh. Sorry for the rant.
I just feel like crying. I mean, this is supposed to be an exciting time and I can't even get in the office to hear my baby's h/b on doppler.

bluebunny man that stinks about your insurance. what a pain in the butt!
janu sorry to hear about your food aversions. Its annoying how they always say that symptoms are supposed to get better at the end of the 1st trimester. i'm STILL exhausted all.the.time.
anyone felt movement outside yet? i keep sitting with my hands on my belly to see, but nothing yet.
Rancid13
07-14-2006, 11:46 AM
bluebunny~You poor thing, I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles you've been having with your doctor's office and insurance! Is there any way you can change doctors/doctors offices? This added stress is not something they should be putting upon a pregnant woman, it's just not right. :(
janu98~I've gotten some periodic back pains as well. When I would get my period, instead of cramps I would get horrible lower back pains and these pains I get nowadays feel very similar to those. My mom said she got them too when she was pg, and she said that walking helped work them out. She said it has something to do with the positioning of the baby. ??
I didn't have any nausea or m/s until I was just out of the 1st trimester. During weeks 14-16 I would be overcome by the feeling of nausea and either dry heave or vomit. Not at all during the 1st, and not in the last 3 almost 4 weeks now. Go figure! :) Maybe everyone's bodies react differently to pg and at different times??
anyone felt movement outside yet? Not yet...might be feeling some movement on the inside, but it's so brief and barely there that I'm not sure if it's gas or baby. :)
Allison78

bun - how frustrating for you. I'm so sorry it's been so difficult.
Girls with gas, I hope you find your middle ground. I've been pretty lucky in that department so far. I guess everyone has their own hurdles, eh?
Nausea - mine has continued through to the 16th week but hopefully I'm at the end.
Movement - Nuthin'. Not even something I could imagine was something. I guess it's still early. Harumph. That's why I rented the doppler for a few months. I knew I'd want that little bit of reassurance before I felt movement.
So I just bought these online:

They're acrylic belly button rings that are flexible and therefore supposedly possible to wear throughout. If I have to take it out completely, that's fine, but I thought these wer cute so I figured it couldn't hurt to try! :)

Bluebunny I am so sorry you are having such a frustrating time with your dr's office.
Janu My bf is due 2days after me and had her 1st m/s at 16weeks last week. It seemed short lived though. Hope yours passes soon.
Allison I wish I had heard of those before I took mine out. I had seen the long flexible tube that you could put in but it didnt look all that comfy. Hope they work for you. My Dh is quite bummed that mine is gone for good. I dont plan on repeircing it at least not until I am done having babies for good.
Congrats to everyone with the u/ss!
Rancid- I"ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
I had an u/s on Thursday - the doc said he couldn't be completely sure at 16 weeks, since the babies are still pretty teeny, but if he had to place a bet, he'd guess a boy and a girl. He seemed pretty sure about the girl, and the boy, less so. (It could either be "the package" or the umbilical cord between the legs. Too funny.) Alas, not definite enough to add to our growing b/g/surprise count, but I hope he's right!

First off, I had to share my excitement that my baby is half done "baking" :D YAY!! I am half way to having my baby!
Movement: I am feeling it on the outside now! My DH felt it a few times yesterday and got so excited. It was very cute.
Nursery: We are so excited to get going on the nursery. My DH has ripped out the old closet system in there and we are redoing it so it works well for a baby. We also bought the last piece of furniture we needed to complete the set. Now we have the crib, dresser (that doubles as a changing table) and tall, skinny dresser. We got the last piece on clearance at Baby Depot since they are discontinuing BassettBaby there.
So have other people gotten started yet? I cannot wait to find out the sex of the baby so I can pick colors!

The BIG ultrasound is FINALLY scheduled-- August 1st.
I think I'm feeling movemenet. On my left side, every few minutes, I feel a little tickle. I know it's early, but I've been sitting very still I'm insane!
Delaney21
07-17-2006, 08:27 AM
Movement: I'm starting to feel kicks, rather than just the flutters. DH still can't feel them yet, but if he pushes on my belly he can feel the baby moving away from him. Its like its hard, and then its gone.
Nursery: We ordered our crib and dresser yesterday. They said it could take up to 14 weeks to come in, so I'm glad we ordered early! We got the Legacy Lifetime bed, with the Bergen county double dresser. I still need to pick out the glider, and I may get another dresser or a nightstand. I'm not quite sure yet. Here is our set:
http://www.childcraftindustries.com/pictures/BergenAspen37631.jpg
Bedding: I am having such a hard time with bedding because its a boy. I could find a hundred different things if it was a girl, but its so hard for a boy. Does anyone have anything picked out yet?
rosa727
07-17-2006, 08:35 AM
I still need a glider too! If anyone finds any they really like, please post on here. I am having such a hard time. I really want the completely upholstered type (like at PBK), but those are SO expensive. The bedding there is not bad, but the furniture is WAY $$$. SO if anyone sees anything like that for a better price, please post it.
We are also going to get an unfinished wood bookshelf so we can paint it to match the theme of the room (whatever that is). We went looking at those this weekend too.
Delaney: I don't know what we are having yet, but I have seen some cute boy bedding. I really like the sailboats one from PBK. There is also a Nautica one at BRU that is really nice. I like that it is simple - navy and white with sailboats.

We are also going to get an unfinished wood bookshelf so we can paint it to match the theme of the room (whatever that is). We went looking at those this weekend too.
That's a really good idea, I should probably get a bookshelf instead of another dresser.
I'll let you know what I find out when I'm looking at gliders - we are going with the completely upholstered type too.
katmg
07-17-2006, 08:54 AM
Nursery - We went looking at gliders too. I like the look of the fully upholstered ones. I found one this weekend at USA Baby that I liked pretty well. It is a Best Chair from their "storytime" collection. Here is a picture from their website - the one I like is not as round on top.
http://www.bestchairs.com/bcassets/prodimages/3120.jpg
The price for the chair was about $425, the ottoman was about $125. That's a lot cheaper than PBK and I think cheaper than some of the ones I've seen at BRU. I think it is important to try to go sit in them and see what is comfortable for you and DH. Finding something that is the correct scale for you is really important. Plus, they had all the fabrics there that we could look through to see what we liked. They also had some Dutalier chairs there, but the gliding action didn't seem as smooth on those. Just my opinion.
We have decided not to get a convertible crib. We're going to get a Jenny Lind style crib in white. We finally settled on white so that we can get pieces at different stores and still have everything match. No one will have to know the bookshelf is from IKEA! :p
We have selected the bedding and so I'm going to order that next week. We'll use it if it is a boy or a girl. Here is a picture of that.

Nursery We have decided on the bed and dresser we want. It is the Newport by Munire. We will do cherry wood if it is a girl and the rubbed black for a boy. We love it. I really can't wait until after our u/s b/c the wait time is 10-12 weeks and the rep said it is really coming at the 12 week mark. So if we ordered it the first week of August it would come in October. That is a really long time.

I want a glider as well. I looked at a few at BRU and at the baby specialty store. I know J.C. Penny has them as well. I was online checking them out.

This one is $399 and the ottoman is $180. They had a ton of fabric choices as well.
I am ready to pick out my colors and paint. I need to find a new light fixture b/c it is really dim in that room and I really want it to be bright and cheery. I am not exactly sure where to start with that project.
katmg - Love that bedding I looked a that fabric at Javis Davis. I didn't know you could get it without having to do the custom bedding route.
rosa727 - I love your idea. I think I will do that as well b/c the collection we want will not offer the bookcase until next year. I want it now. :p

wow so much fun stuff going on in here!! how fun!
love all the furniture, ladies. we haven't bought anything yet, but i'm constantly looking. like katmg we might get a jenny lind crib too. i'm looking for a dresser that can be used as a changing table too. but, we have very limited space and don't want anything that is cheaply built but yet isn't $$$ is that too much to ask?! :)
bedding now, we have picked this out, and my mom has already purchased some of it for us. we got this since it is gender neutral and the stars and moon theme is so very fitting for us.

but, i'm not sure about sheets. been reading baby bargains for good quality sheets, and am tempted to get a fleece sheet from Fleece baby (http://www.fleecebaby.com) because of our winter baby. but dh is reluctant since he thinks that the sheet will spoil the babe, and he/she will only want to sleep on that sheet forever. not sure if i believe his argument though.
pbk also has some yummy looking soft sheets too.

Rosa, Half-baked? yikes!
We really haven't started shopping yet. DH has put everything off until we know what we're having. I am going along with it for now since a new BRU is opening down the street I can wait until it's open, as long as that's soon. Over the weekend a friend loaned me her travel system. It's a very nice stroller with actual rubber tires and shocks for jogging, a car seat and base, and she has a high chair. She also loaned us a crib but I don't really like it and think we will get something of our own. I also want a glider and love some of the ones you ladies have posted.

rosa~I'm really liking the upholstered gliders too, especially after test-sitting in a few at BRU last weekend. I found this one online at Walmart, and it's priced really really well (from $129-149 for the set of glider+ottoman), but I'll have to stop by a store or 2 soon to test the fabric, b/c fabric softness or lack of softness is a pretty big dealbreaker for me. Website says it's a very soft cotton twill fabric, but I'll be the judge of that. ;) It's available in a variety of colors, I like the blue best:

There's tan, yellow, pink, and blue.
delaney~Hubby and I were browsing bedding last weekend and saw some at BRU and Burlington Coat Factory that we liked. We're turned off by the nautical and sports/fire truck themes. Here's a few we both liked:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/bcf001.jpg
It has little sheep jumping over fences, and bunnies

Jungle-type theme

Cute bedding, mandersald! I like it! Hubby and I still need to get on the ball about deciding which one(s) we like best...

This is currently the bedding that is in top running right now. I really like it because I like plain, and its pretty plain. DH on the other hand wants a sports theme, but most of them are full of plaid and I really don't like plaid.

Ooooh - I really like the jungle animal theme for boys too! I think I am weird. There may actually be more "boy" sets I like than "girl" sets. I am really not into pink and purple ruffles :p

Congrats to everyone that has found out the sex!! I go on Thursday and will hopefully find out then. Honestly, my DH and I don't have a preference so we'll be happy either way.
Nursery - I'll probably go w/my mom when we're back from vacation in 2 weeks to order the crib. I still haven't decided if I want to do a separate changing table or just get something to put on top of the dresser we plan on using. I think I definitely want a glider I really want a fully upholstered chair but have not looked seriously at them yet.
Bedding - I have browsed but have been waiting on teh sex to seriously start shopping for this. If it is a girl, I am not into the frilly stuff...more of the clean classy looking style. If a boy, I have no idea right now.
Movement - I don't think I have felt anything yet but am paying close
attention
Question of the day......I called in sick one day last week and while I was off I did some investigating on daycare. We don't have many actual daycare centers in my neighborhood or neighboring areas (or near where I work which is less than 10 min from my house) but I did call one and set up an appt for the first week in Aug. I really woudl like to find a person that watches one or a few kids in their home as I really don't want to take an infant to a DC. However, I want to check out all the options so I am comfortable with our decision. For a person, I will wait closer to the time the baby is born to look. My friend assures me it will be easy to find someone but I am not so sure (she was in the same boat and found someone when her daughter was born b/f she returned to work). Also, DC will be more expensive than a person. The one daycare I am mtg with is $219/week for an infant! My friend pays $125/week for a person...just o give you an idea of rates around me. Is anyone else in the same boat as me and returning to work FT and will need to line up daycare?

sunshine: I cannot really give you any advice on daycare, as I will be a SAHM. But, along those lines, I would love to hear who is planning on staying home after the baby comes, versus going back to work. It seems that there is a whole different set of issues that arise with that, so I would like to hear how other people feel about it.

I think I am going to be a SAHM too. I say think because DH just found out that his company is being bought out by GM, and he has to find a new job. As long as he finds one with similar pay, I'll quit working in October.
This was a really hard decision because I have a great job that pays very well. Its hard giving up all of that extra income, but I want to be at home with my baby.

Movement - I am having a good bit of inside movement and not any outside movement yet. It is still early
QOTD - At this point I will be at home staying at home with the baby. DH and I own a lot of rental properties homes and strip malls and I will be managing that from home. But I will be officially done with my 9-5 job. My commute is hellish about 1.5 hours one way coming and going. But when I have meetings my aunte will glady watch the baby for me.
NJMom
07-17-2006, 04:45 PM
QOTD - I am currently a SAHM for my boys and will continue to do this once the new baby comes. The main reason is that I want to be home with them. Another factor is the cost of daycare. With my boys, I did go back to work for 6 months and full time daycare for both was $1,888 per month! DH and I made a lot of changes so that I could give up my job and stay home so we won't be changing that at least for a couple years.
It is definately not easy being a SAHM but I wouldn't trade it for anything! I just hope I can stay sane with three kids under the age of 2 to take care of....:)

NJMom: It's good ot hear from someone who has experience being a SAHM. I am sure it will be hard to get used to, but I also feel very lucky that we have the option, epsecially because we live half way across the country from any family. I am sure I will have lots of questions for you as it gets closer, mostly about how you stay sane!

Hope everyone is well!!
I thought I'd gotten off scot free! I was just saying to someone "yeah, I've had a lot of nausea but I haven't thrown up". That is now officially a lie. I decided to wait until almost my 17th week but this morning my body decided it was time to throw up. Oh well. I consider myself lucky for getting this far. :) To be honest, I think the baby is in the middle of some crazy growth spurt or something. Yesterday, I actually fell asleep sitting at my computer at work. I couldn't shake it so I went out to my car, drove to the back of the building and slept for 20 min. It helped but I was exhausted the whole rest of the day, like, SUPER exhausted. And then this morning I was sick. I guess the munchkin just needed the resources!!
Work vs SAH - I'd really like to be a SAHM or at least only go back part-time but I'm not sure if we can afford it yet. I guess mat. leave will tell us that since we'll get 55% of my salary (as EI) while I'm off. I'm lucky though, Canada gives you a year of maternity leave so we have a year to figure it out.
movement - still nothing!! I'm even paying attention too. I can't wait to feel something. I think it will be so neat.
Only a week left until the big u/s! I'm really looking forward to it. Once we know the gender I have a feeling the shopping floodgates will open!! I can't wait to start getting the nursery in order. I'm thinking about making my own quilt for the crib since what I want is fairly simple and I haven't seen it anywhere. I'll let you guys know how it goes!!

Work vs SAH~I'm taking 6-8 weeks off for maternity leave, then it's back to working full-time for me. We don't really have another choice, as expensive as things are in CA and we really need the 2 salaries coming in to cover everything. I also love my job (I've been here ~8 years) and couldn't imagine what I'd do with myself if I didn't have this 'escape' 5 days a week. ;)
We lucked out in the daycare area as my mom was a 3rd grade teacher until her school shut down operations after this previous school year. She announced to us that she intended to be a full-time grandma come December (she already watches my brother and his wife's 2-year old a lot of the time, as they live at the house with my parents). My parents' house is located ~2-2.5 miles up the street from my work, and right smack dab in between my home and my work.
She raised 3 kids and we all turned out pretty much ok ;), and she's been a 1st grade and 3rd grade teacher for the last 6-7 years, and I can say that I fully trust her to watch over our little one...she hasn't replied yet to my questions of payment for her watching him, usually when she ignores questions like that it means not to worry about paying for anything, so we'll see about that later.
movement~I think I've been feeling something now. I was lying in bed last night and definitely felt something on my left side, it felt exactly as if someone flicking a finger lightly & repeatedly against the inside of my abdomen for a good 30-45 seconds. Prior to this, I'd felt little 'bubbles' which may or may not have been gas, but that were very brief, so it was hard to tell anyhow...

Work: I am basically a SAHM. I am employed at a part-time job but I only work when I want to from home or bring my son into my office and I also mystery shop and that is usually only once or twice a week. When I had my son I lived in California and worked full-time with a 2 hour commute each way. We moved out of state and I quit my job :D
We have no family any where near us though so it can be tough at times.
I'm lucky though, Canada gives you a year of maternity leave so we have a year to figure it out.
We live on the border and my Dh wants to move to Canada so bad!

It's a Girl!
We are totally excited. Dh was a little nervous but is doing great now. He went shopping last night and brought home a whole bag of pink clothes.
Her name is Madison Kay and weighs 9oz.
QOTD I would love to be a SAHM but it looks like I will be coming back to work part time. We are waiting to find out for sure if Dh is getting a promotion then we will decide for sure. My mom is going to do one day a week and I am hoping to find another mom in our church who would either like to take one day a week or swap a day a week. I will start looking more into it in December. I will have 12weeks off. The pay isnt great so it will definitely give us an idea of what we can afford.

Congratulations on your girl marteneym!! Very cute that your husband ran out and bought clothes!
Our U/S is on August 7... I'd be very happy with either but it will be nice to start picking out nursery colors!
QOTD - I've had the whole range of SAHM, WOHM full time, to my current WOHM part time (two days a week). I'll definitely be returning to this job when I recover from delivery, I feel very fortunate to have a really positive work-life balance with this situation. I used to not work at all (which was a lot of fun and a good experience for our family even though it was a little hard on the finances, but we managed) then went back full time in retail management (the hours! eep! ) and then found a law firm that needed a part-time attorney so I jumped at the chance. Not too many firms in my field offer that kind of work schedule and I can do some of the work from home when I'm not in court so it all works out very nicely. My daughter goes to school when I'm at work, and she has learned so much there. Now that she's preschool age, it's been a good school experience for her and it makes my decision regarding pre-K and Kindergarten very easy since the center offers all of that. It's
