I just bought a pair of jeans that are very comfy, but they're just a tad too big in the waist, so they have the tendency to ride down. I never wear pants to work, and I haven't had to wear a belt with jeans in ages, so I don't even know where any of mine are, and I imagine they're all out of style, anyway. Could someone show me some examples of the type of belt I should be looking for? Thanks!

I would go with something pretty basic that would coordinate with lots of tops like these from Gap

And for something a little more fun I like ribbon belts. This one is also from Gap and comes in four colors.

If you don't like wearing a belt, have you thought about have the jeans taken in at the waist? Most women foget about having things tailored.

If they take a pair of pants in at the waist though wouldn't it mess up how the rest of the pant looks? I'm clueless how they can take in the waist......how do they do it and have the rest of the pant still look cool??

I only wear simple brown or black belts with silver buckles. I have the Basic Jeans Belt (http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=10428&pid=105819) from GAP in both colors:

I third the Gap belts suggestion...I bought and returned belts from both The Limited and New York & Company before I found Gap belts, and they are so much better.

Those Gap belts look great - thanks! I wonder if I have something like that already, though. If only I could remember where all my belts are.... :o

There's really no point in having them altered, since they're just Old Navy jeans. The reason they're too big in the waist is that they're supposed to sit low, but I'm so short that the waistband starts up a little higher (which is fine with me, since I don't like jeans that sit on my hipbone), and then rides down.

No, if the tailor know what they're doing, the pants look *better* when taken in. You remove the waistband, take in the side seams or the back seam utill the opening is the same size as the waist, and sew on an angle until the new seam meets the old one. You adjust the waistband to be the same size as the pants now (taking in a the sides or back) and replace the waistband. Did that make sense?

But, I agree, there's no point in taking in Old Navy Jeans! :p

I second the idea of getting one black belt and one brown belt with a simple buckle. Then you can match the belt to your shoes or outfit, depending on what else you wear.

It's also fun to get a couple of cheepie belts that go with specific tops, like the striped one posted, or those cute necktie belts! OR pick up an old tie at a thrift store (should be about $2-$5)!

I have two belts that I pretty much wear with everything - a black on with silver buckle/grommets and a brown one with antique brass buckle/grommets. I got mine at Maurices, but they are very similar to this one:

I love this style because my weight has fluctuated quite a bit since I got them, and this style grows/shrinks with me.

I also have a few scarf/ribbon type belts that I occasionally wear.
