View Full Version : Good gift for a friend?

I've had a rough last three months going through a break-up that went back and forth between staying together and finally splitting. Through it all my friend Bill has been a saint. Listening, taking me to lunch, forcing me to go out when I didn't feel like it-and of course I have a great time. He doesn't let me apologize for talking about the ex too much. He's been understanding and just a good friend. He knows I'm thankful, but I'd like to get him a little something.
He is starting an internet company and a lot of his time goes into that. He isn't big into reading and he won't do the spa thing. I'm sort of at a loss. He's big into technology, but that seems sort of impersonal. As for sports, not a huge sports fan. I know he likes music, all sorts...
Any advice appreciated!

Making him a gift would be nice. Maybe make a CD of his favorite tunes or of music that reminds you of him. Maybe frame a picture you have of the two of you together. Is there a concert comming up in your area that he would like to see? Buy tickets for that. If you are good at baking...make him a cake or something sweet (if he likes sweet stuff).

Does he have an ipod? Maybe you could get a gift card for ITunes???
Either that or maybe a restaurant gift card or a really nice bottle of wine?

I second the iTunes gift card. If he doesn't have an iPod, then I'd give him one.

Maybe tickets to a concert that you could attend together.

I second all of the ipod/iTunes suggestions. If he has an ipod already, could you get him some accessories for it - maybe one of those plug-and-play speakers for his new office?

I was going to suggest taking him to a concert that he really wants to see this summer. Concert season is quickly approaching....

Thanks, everyone. I will be looking into the concert thing. He has every gadget I can think of and I would like to do a little more than a gift certificate. Thanks again. :)

Maybe something fun you can do together, like cooking classes or wine classes.

I made my husband a little book when we were dating about all the things that make him special. I used a little memo pad book and kept each page short, just a few words and a sticker to go with the theme of the page. I made sure the reasons were very varied, from what he looked like, to things he had already done, to things he did for me, to things he was learning to do. I felt I was giving him something he could always turn to when he felt bad or down, even if I or another friend were not around to lift his spirts in person. Might not to be modified a bit for a friend v.s a boyfriend, but it may still be a nice way to repay the favor of friendship.
