I did a search and really didn't find anything on this so.....
I discovered that if I do a sweetheart table I can fit 40 more people in the reception (I am way over on the guest list and in danger of seating people outside, but that's a whole other story:rolleyes: )
I am looking for pictures of sweetheart tables and suggestions for what to do with the rest of the bridal party. If we had one long head table it would seat 14 so if we used the sweetheart we would have that plus 2 rounds for the bridal party.
TIA

We chose to have a sweetheart table because we had 12 people in our wedding party and didn't want to have to have their dates sit apart from them. I thought it worked out really well -- to decorate it, I had a sign made up with our names, and then placed the bridesmaid bouquets on it as well.
We had the bridesmaids and groomsmen each sit with the "group" they belonged to -- i.e, my brother sat with my family, my high school friends with the other high school friends. I think they had a much better time than if they were just sitting with the bridal party.
Here's a closeup of our sweetheart table

We had a small round wrought iron table and chair set as our sweetheart table. There was blue fabric swaged on it and pinned with flowers. It wasn't really big enough for much other than our plates and toasting glasses, and my bouquet.
I had the bridal parties sit with their spouses at two tables closest to us. They really appreciated being able to sit together.
You kinda get the idea with this picture

Here (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=3432&highlight=sweetheart+table)are a few more for you to look at.
We had a sweetheart table and our very small bridal party sat at VIP tables around/near ours. I liked it better this way, because it meant they could sit with their loved ones and we could have a moment of peace together.

We had a sweetheart table and I'm glad we decided to do that. It really gave DH and I a moment to just be together and talk to each other-- which was great because the rest of the night was so crazy and we were all over the place. Our bridal party and family were at round tables all around us. Photos:

We had a small sweetheart table, which I loved. It gave us time to actually talk to each other and it was very easy to get up and down. I hate being in a wedding and sitting in a long row with everyone watching you, especially if you have to get up or down.

we had a sweetheart table as well and LOVED it ;)
our bridal party sat at various tables through out the hall with their spouses/SO's
No photos online, but we did the sweetheart table thing as well and also LOVED it. ;)
We chose to take the concept all the way and had a nice little "table for two" - facing each other, not like a head table looking out at the crowd - right in the middle of the hall. The first concentric circle of tables out from us in the middle was family and the bridal party - we seated them with spouses/dates mixed in with other guests at tables that made sense via age, interests, etc. They really liked this arrangement too!

We had a sweetheart table and it was the best idea. Our bridal party got to sit with their spouses and we could talk to each other and have a little down time. Ours was the signing table during the ceremony and we used it as our table once it was done.

I totally recommend doing a sweetheart table. It seems that people are really moving away from a traditional head table and moving to the sweetheart tables. I think everyone has more fun, because they can sit with their spouses/dates. You could have bridal party tables. All the groomsmen and their dates at 1 table. All the bridesmaids and their dates at another.

We did a sweetheart table as well, and loved it. it was decorated to match the floral arrangement on our chuppa, which was mostly long drappings of dark red roses. We sat the bridal party with their dates/spouses & friends. It worked our perfectly for us.

Another fan of the sweetheart table!
I sat the BM's and groomsmen mostly together at 2 adjacent tables- they said they had a great time! Having a sweetheart table actually allowed us to eat and have a few moments together.

I was totally against the idea of a sweetheart table at first, since I had no desire to be essentially "on display." I also wanted to be able to sit with our bridal party.. But we ended up going that route so that we also could fit more people in the room.
It worked out perfectly. And honestly, we were barely at our table, and when we were, we certainly weren't alone. :p

We did a sweetheart table because most of our bridal party had significant others who we didn't want to make them sit apart from. I've been to weddings where the head table was empty most of the night (except for the very brief time that everyone sat down to eat) because the whole BP went to hang out with their family & friends as soon as they had the opportunity to do so.
Plus, DH & I just liked the idea of having our own little table. :D
Here are some pictures of our table, which was sort of in the center of the room up on a small platform at one end of the dance floor. We reserved several tables along the edge of the dance floor for our bridal party & families to sit with their SO's.
We used my bouquet for the centerpiece, along with some candles & rose petals - I wanted to keep it simple:

i guess we did sort of a twist on the sweetheart table - our table was in centre, with two long tables coming out from it like wings, where our bridal party sat. i liked it because it gave us a bit more space.
