Here we are! While there are a ton of weight-loss support groups on the boards, none are geared toward the post-partum body. Some of us just have a little to lose, others a lot. Regardless of the weight you want to get to, we are all here to support and guide you! :D

So - here we go!!!

I guess I will start with a QOTD What are you doing to try to lose weight?

I have tried to cut calories. I have tried to eat healthier. I'm failing miserably at both! lol It is just so much easier to eat the "easy" foods than to try to be sensible - especially with an 8 month old running around.

Hey, Lora! Thanks for starting this thread! :)

Here are my stats:

JRPAGV (Janna)
Children: DS 12/7/05
Pre-baby weight: 128
Current weight: 134
Goal weight: 118
Current size: 8
Goal size: 2-4

I started Weight Watchers (online) on 3/16/05. I'm having a hard time losing these last few pregnancy pounds... probably because I'm rather lazy and I LOVE food more than anyone I know. Ideally, I'd like to get closer to 118 pounds, because that's when I looked my best.

QOTD I haven't done anything yet, but I need to start now. I need to make time to exercise even though it's hard having 2 kids and working full time. Also, I need to make smarter lunch decisions and more meal planning. I eat way too much fast food.

Thanks for starting this thread Lora!

Maybe we should add our height, too. Otherwise weight can be misleading. ;) That's what I was thinking. I'm 5'4" and have a fairly small frame (I think). I don't want anyone looking at my goal weight and thinking I'm striving to look like a string bean!

Right now I am doing LA Weigh Loss (what I will call LAWL). I have already lost over 5lbs in the last two weeks. I am also starting up my running again and that has been helping as well. The part that I think will be hard is that I have a HUGE chest since I'm nursing, I am a 36H!!!! So once I get down close to my goal weight, I am wondering if I will achieve with these gigantic knockers!

philnikki
03-31-2006, 08:49 AM
as far as the QOTD is concerned, here is what has been successful for me so far:

The number one change that I have made since having Ava is exercising again. I got to Curves three nights a week (its a 30 minute total body work out). I have lost a total of 9 inches off my arms, bust, waist, hips, abdomen and thighs (about 1.5 inches a piece on average) in one month! And that was with no change at all in diet. My MIL has been staying with us, so I am eating a lot worse than I do normally. She is leaving in a week, so once she does go, I am going back to my normal WW routine.

I eat a Fiber One cookie for breakfast (its that fiber one cereal coated in chocolate chips...only 1.5 points a cookie, and a super easy way to get your fiber!! Keeps you feeling full and tastes pretty good!!)

I drink a TON of water. I keep a huge bottle of Evian at my desk everyday.

I eat a subway sub, salad from Wendys, soup, etc. for lunch. I like to go out to lunch, so I do, but I just make wise choices about what I eat.

For dinner, I usually just eat soup or a lean cuisine, or a salad. Now that its getting warmer, I will likely add grilled chicken and fish to the mix!

So that is what I do :)

I'm so glad all of you have joined! YAY!!

I just posted this pic in my LJ, and I wanted to post it here for inspiration, too. This was me at 150 - in June 2004. Gaahhhh. I wanna be skinny again. :(

Subscribing. Won't be joining yet as I am still pregnant (due in a month), but will joint quickly after that. One of my main goals for the summer is to lose preg and some pre-preg weight. It will be great to have a support group. In the meantime . . . I will be lurking to support you all. You can do it!!

I'm half-way doing WW now. I was going to meetings after returning to work when Rachel was 8 weeks old, but I have only lost 9 lbs in 5 months. I didn't think that it was worth the money to remain in WW if it's not coming off that fast. I will re-join once I stop bfing. I really think that it's the bfing that's keeping me from losing the last 10 lbs. It could also help if I actually exercised too. But it's another thing trying to find the time for that.

I'm hoping with the warmer weather and longer day light hours that are coming, we'll get more outside time to walk after work.

LILRTL

I really think that it's the bfing that's keeping me from losing the last 10 lbs.

I whole-heartedly agree with that! I feel the same way. I have actually considered weaning Zach because I am so miserable with my weight.

I so need the inspiration right now and it is so conforting to know that not everyone turns into their original self after a pregnancy. It just seems like so many of my friends lost all the baby weight right away and here I am three and a half months later still wearing some of my maternity clothes!

I got back down to 170 (from 208) with zero efforts while BFing, but during the weaning process gained almost 5 lbs back!
The last couple weeks I have been eating so much healthier, joined a weekly Strollercise class and hit the gym in my building. I've already lost 2.4lbs the first week, nothing the second (enjoying my no-longer-restricted diet since totally weaning: hello lattes and omlettes!).

Its tough for me, since DS is so active so won't sit still in my gym with me while I get cardio in...yet DH isn't comfortable with a stranger watching him so I can work out. And by the end of the day when DH is home, I am sooooo fried there's no way I can work out. I know, excuses excuses excuses...but at least you're all in the same Excuse Boat as me. ;)

I'm actually off to vacation for a week, and I always lose weight on vacation so I am pretty excited. I'll be back in a week with some new stats - THANK YOU for starting this thread! :)

QOTD: I kind of answered this in my first post, but I'll officially answer it here. ;) I started WW Online (I'll call it WWO) two weeks ago on 3/16. I weighed 138 at the time. I just weighed myself about 30 seconds ago and my wish-washy scale is now saying that I'm down to 132! I keep fluctuating between 132-134. I seem to be stuck. I love WW, though. I didn't think I'd be able to stick to it, but I'm doing pretty well for the most part.

Oh, and for the record... I weighed 166 when I had Nathan in December. I gained 38 pounds during my pregnancy.

I've walked on the treadmill a few times now, but I only lasted about 20 minutes each time. I really need to build up my endurance. I'm such a wimp.

I also want to work on toning. My arms jiggle now and I have huge hips. I also have a tummy pouch that shows through my old shirts. My calves aren't even toned anymore. My DH won't pay for me to join a gym, unfortunately. I don't blame him, though. I probably wouldn't stick to it and go frequently.

(Lora, can you pease change my current weight to 132?)

LILRTL
03-31-2006, 09:16 AM
Kim We must be similar build - we are both tall and carry a higher weight well.

Janna Will change right now! :D
eta: Actually, I will put weigh-in dates...what do you think? Maybe we could weigh-in and check weekly?

Eventhough I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight and in my regular clothes my body is just different. My stomach is flabby and as much as I wish this would just go away on its own I don't think it will.

QOTD - I haven't really started anything yet, I had a hard time finding time to work out but now Ollie is getting older and a more predictable routine I won't have that excuse much younger. I used to run before getting pregnant and I hope to start that up again along with walks. I also want to join the YMCA when Oliver gets a little older and I can leave him in the childcare area.

I guess I will start with a QOTD What are you doing to try to lose weight?

EATING
I am a quasi-vegetarian, but DS was sensitive to most of my usual diet the ENTIRE time he BFd (birth-9 1/2 months) so I couldn't:
Eat gassy veggies, garlic, too much tomato, soy, eggs
Drink skim milk
It seemed the more fatty, carby, unhealthy a food was that I are, the better he was, the better he slept. So annoying.

Now he's been weaned a couple weeks, I am back to:
- Eating Special K with skim milk for bfast and some dinners or snacks (this is about 4oo calories less per bowl than the Great Grains with Rice Milk I was eating)
- More vegetarian dishes that are veggie & soy-based, with lots of protein & fiber
- Either a skim coffee drink OR a small sweet treat if I hit Starbucks...never both
- When out to eat (like that ever happens!), I can only have 1 non-super-healthy thing, like either a high-calorie dinner and no dessert, or a healthy dinner and skim cappucino with some of a regular dessert
- I could care less for fried foods, chips, soda, anything like that, but I LOVE sweets! So I am only allowing myself a naughty something every other day...and it can't be a big naughty

Really, I'm not making ANYTHING off limits. I am just making my portions more reasonable and balancing my day's intake.

ACTIVITY
- Strollerstride-type class 1x a week (cardio, weights, yoga combined in a 45 minute workout)
- I walk everywhere I can
- I try to carry DS in the Bjorn somewhere daily
- Now that its warm, walk with DS in the a.m. before nap or p.m. daily
- Hitting the gym for at least an hour on the weekend when DH is around

ATTITUDE
I *need* to be fit and strong again before I can TTC for #2. I have a bad back and an active 10 month old, so it would be crazy for me to get preggo with this flab and no muscle on me. I am now focused on a few mantras to help me:
1. Every calorie taken in or burned off counts
2. I need to be healthy & fit for myself, my husband, my son
2. I have a closet of clothes my fit self used to wear and they WILL NOT get replaced with a size up just because I am being lazy

kimthebride

Kim We must be similar build - we are both tall and carry a higher weight well.
Totally!
I have always been very muscular (DH jokes that I am the one who moves the furniture when need be ;) ), so my weight is higher than most women my size and height. I actually have to be careful about weight training - if I use heavy weights, I get Man Arms....scary.

I gained 43lbs during my pregnancy and lost 34 of those during the first 2w afterward. These last 9 pounds just won't budge. Add to that the 10 that I was trying to lose BEFORE getting pregnant and it's just a grand old time weight-wise. BF really helped me in the beginning... this kid literally sucked everything right outta me. I'm still using the BF excuse to take in more calories each day (even though I started weaning him 3w ago). The weather is starting to warm up here (NJ) and sooner or later I will have start losing the layered look. :o I can't complain too much because I haven't really worked all that much at taking it off...

QOTD I joined a gym for the new year and... well, went all of ZERO times so far. :o Part of my problem is I'm crazy and want to lose a few more pounds before going to the gym. Insane - I know... but the gym is co-ed and pretty much a pickup joint and I feel veeery frumpy right now.

I really want to lose these last 9 pounds sooner rather than later. We're going to be TTC this summer again and I really don't want to add to old pregnancy weight.

Looking forward to hearing from other women who are on the same journey!

I hear ya on the clothes thing, but I was so much bigger, I couldn't even zip up anything :( Whats cool is that all of my new fat clothes are starting to get really loose, so before I used to line dry my jeans and now I am going to dry them on high to get em to shrink up :) Yay!!!

And Lora I think a weekly weight in is a great idea. I am a participant in a weight loss program here at work (I work for a health insurance company) and we all weigh in on Mondays...would that be an ok day for everyone???

My weight has fluctuated drastically over the past few years! I have always been around 155-160, and after my first two were born, in spite of being 200+ at delivery, I was able to lose the weight in no time at all, through BF and exercise. This time my body seems to be rebelling against me, and I am one of those few who can't seem to lose a pound in spite of still exclusively BF DD, and trying to eat right and exercise regularly.

I tried Depo-Provera as a form of birth control a few years ago, and the horrible side effects included drastic weight gain - nearly 30 pounds in less than a month. I ballooned! :( It took almost a year, and a lot of hard work, to get most of it back off in time for our wedding, but it slowly crept back on, and when I got pregnant with DD, I was already about 10 pounds overweight.

I now consider myself to be 20 pounds overweight, and I hate the way I look. I'm so utterly depressed about it, and I'm so tired of people making "helpful" comments like "Well at least you're tall, so you carry the extra weight well!" Yeah, thanks, but p*ss off. 20 pounds is 20 pounds, and I don't want to carry it well - I don't want to carry it at all!

We purchased an exercise bike and for awhile I was riding it twenty minutes a day, and doing weights and Pilates here and there, but just not regularly enough. (We all know what a schedule is like with a baby around!) I just recently spoke to my friend who is an exercise therapist and she recommended riding the bike for 30 minutes instead of 20 - she said 20 is just not enough, and that I should notice a better result riding 30 everyday. So I've upped it, and I'm hoping I will notice a difference. I'd say my biggest challenge in losing weight is finding the time to exercise regularly. We have nap issues here with DD, so exercising during the day is very difficult. Then at night, I'm too tired, and often end up skipping my workout.

My second biggest problem is food. I'm convinced that I have a food addiction - especially to sweets. The only time I'm usually able to lose weight is if I am on a very rigid diet (ie. Atkins, SBD, something where you are completely restricted in what you can consume), but because I am BF, I don't think that's an option. Oh, and I tried WW. Just didn't work for me. When you're a mom with 2 kids in swimming and soccer, and a baby, and I work part-time from home, meals have to be easy, so it's hard to consistently make good choices. (Says the mom who just ate two pieces of banana bread for breakfast. *sigh*)

I'm looking forward to having this support group to keep me on track!

Mondays are fine with me for weigh-in.

QOTD
I was doing WW, but I HATE it. The leader of the one I went to acted like everyone in there were children and she wasn't very helpful. Unfortunately because of where I live she is our only option. Now I'm trying to abide by the food pyramid and sticking to about 1600 calories/per day (although I'm not counting per se). Since January, I've gone from 198lbs to 185lbs and I think that's a pretty good pace. My biggest challenge is exercise... I HAVE got to get my rear moving!

(ETA: What I meant by the weight/muscle thing.)I put 115-120 because it depends on how much muscle I have. If I've been lifting a lot, then 120 is good. Otherwise, w/ little muscle, 115 looks best.

Surprisingly enough to me, w/ atleast 10 pounds still to lose, my jeans fit. They fit even when I weighed closer to 140, but barely. They're still a little more snug than I would like..but I always wear tight jeans so it's not much different. The thing is, most of the weight is in my stomach! I usually carry extra weight in my arms, chest & maybe butt, so this is weird/frustrating. But I can't complain because I haven't done anything to change it as of yet. Just BF'ing. I'm wondering if I'll stop losing now since I hear that w/ BF'ing, often the last 5-10 doesn't want to come off to maintain the supply? Hmm..

QOTD: Absolutely nothing! I really would like to go to the gym but I've had so much going on that I don't have much time. I also do not want to leave the baby in the daycare at the gym, so it would have to be when someone could watch him & there really isn't much opportunity for that.

I plan to start walking w/ him in the stroller soon. Then I would like to start my Pilates again but the DVD's are packed because we're moving. I'll have to work on crunches, lunges, push-ups at home.

I'm fine w/ a Monday weigh-in. Nothing like a nice weigh-in after a weekend of cheating. ;) Is it just me or is it harder to eat healthier on the weekends?

Yesterday was great - I met my sister and niece at the park and we walked around the entire park (about a 1/2 mile each round) 3x's. We agreed to meet there nightly during the week weather-providing so the kids can play (well, niece can play, DS will watch) and then we'll walk 3 - 5x's around the park. She had to leave w/ niece but I stayed and DH met me and I walked around another 3x's with him. I know I have the gym membership, but it's hard to find a babysitter and go... I'm going to bring the Bjorn from now on and wear him around the park. He can be my free weight. :)

I gained 31 lbs w/ DS, started at 138 and ended up at 169. Walked out of the hospital at 161. The weight did come off during bfing (pumping, for me) I suppose but it didn't really start coming off until I started weaning. I was stuck at 145 for the longest time but have lost the last 7lbs in 4wks, when I started weaning & started eating better. Really, I feel ok about being 138 but none of my pre-pg clothes fit....well, they do but they're tight and there's the whole severe muffin top thing w/ the pants. They fit just fine at 138 lbs pre-pg so there's obviously an issue w/ the chg in body shape! ;) Actually, before TTC, I fluctuated b/t 125-130 and I was most happy then. I gained 10lbs over the 9 mos of TTC & 2 losses before getting pg w/ Carter - the thing that killed me was that I had stopped working out. So, ideally, I'd like to be back at my original weight, pre-ttc but the real goal is to just have my clothes fit again.

I did work out pretty well for a couple of wks in January but it didn't really do a lot and then I got lazy (i.e. would rather spend quality cuddle time w/ DS in the mornings). While I haven't been back to the gym since then, I really changed my eating habits over the last month which is half the battle, right? I'm going on vacation to Florida the first wk of May and am in my sister's wedding that week as well AND am in no way comfortable being in a swimsuit or strapless dress at this point. lol. SO, I'm kicking it into high gear tomorrow and while the vacation is the short-term motivator, I know it'll help me stay in it long-term. I do great once I get started, it's getting started that's the problem.

So, currently, my meal plan is such:

Breakfast: Zone bar & 1 cup coffee
Drink water throughout day
Lunch: Cobb salad
Dinner: Whatever we're in the mood for....this one kills my good diet day! ;) So, I need to be more conscious of what we make for dinner.

Sorry that was so long!! Monday weigh-in's are great for me.

I only gained 15lbs during my pgcy and lost most of it during BFing. After weaning though (DD's choice) at 4 months, the weight started piling back on. :( I know that the problem is I never adjusted my eating habits from pgcy/bfing, so I really need to try and do better at this.

Exercising is very hit and miss. Now that it is warmer though, I've been doing my best to put DD in the stroller and walk 20-30min a day.

Monday weigh-ins sound good to me. That will give me another day on the scale (I weigh in on Fridays with my other group) and keep me watching myself more closely! ;)

Since I'm still pregnant I'm not ready to join yet, but I want to subscribe now because I will be joining as soon as I deliver! Well, maybe after a week or two....but I'm going to be ready to get the weight off.

This is my second baby and it took me a long time to lose the weight from my first so that's why I want to be so proactive this time. For my first pgcy, I gained something like 45 pounds and then continued to eat like crazy using BFing as an excuse. I finally ended up about 6 pounds lower than my pre-pg weight by doing the South Beach Diet but my DD was over 18 months old by then.

I feel like I'm doing a lot better this pgcy, although at 30 weeks I've already gained 25 pounds. My goal is to stay below 150 pounds which would give me a total gain of 38 pounds. I think I can do it since I only have to stay below 1 lb/wk gain.

I recently checked a book out of the library that I wanted to recommend. It is called Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year and it gives a lot of advice on what you can do to get your shape back. I know a lot of my problem was my shot ab muscles and I was just doing situps to work on it. Turns out that you have to make sure that your muscles are back together or situps do nothing. I had to return it but I'm planning to get it again or buy the book to get toned after this baby.

I hope this thread sticks around for another 2 months - I'll be reading along!

I'm back in my pre-pregnancy clothes, but they don't fit the same as before. Pre-pregnancy, I was a somewhat avid runner, and I miss my treadmill. I just can't find the time to squeeze in a workout before DS's bedtime.

Also, I don't have the best eating habits. Pre-pregnancy I rarely ate fast food (maybe on a handful of times in a year), but during pregnancy, I developed a love for drive-thru "crap". And I've continued eating "crap" fairly regularly.

That format looks great. As for the weigh in...I'm still at 172/0 and my excuse for not losing weight is that I am home for a visit and my Mom is cooking all my favorite foods and it is maple sugar time here in NS and I am gorging my face! But on another not, I went clothes shopping yesterday. Before having my DD I used to wear AE low rise jeans. Needless to say, after having a baby just three and a half short months ago, low rise jeans are not a thing of beauty on me. So to perk me up I went and bought two new pair of jeans that I don't muffin top in and a yoga outfit to motivate me. So far this week I have cut down on my snaking and have started to exercise a bit more. Hopefully this will work.

Question: Since I am bf'ing DD, how careful do I have to be about losing weight. I know that while bf'ing I need to eat a bit more than what I did pre-preg but I'm not sure how much. I want to continue bf'ing until DD is one year so I don't want to lose my supply. Any comments would be appreciated.

I'm in the same situation. I want to BF for a year.

I've read conflicting things about how much weight is ok to lose a month. One said 2-3 pounds. Another said no more than 8. I've been consistently losing around 5 or so a month w/o doing anything..so I can't really help that if it is too much. But I figure that since it's in between those two amounts...it's probably ok.

The reason you don't want to lose any more than that a month is that you will release toxins from your fat into your breast milk. And of course, your supply may go down.

I'm just going to let nature take it's course w/ me like it has been...but w/ hopefully adding in some walking soon just for health & to get off my butt! I can't really lose less weight than I am now unless I eat cookies all day long..so if my supply does start to go down, I'll just continue to do all the things that have helped it in the past: Oatmeal, dark beer, more water, pumping..etc.

Weight loss and BF: I think I read somewhere that a good weight loss while you are BFing is about 1 pound/week. I am BFing right now too which is why I'm not trying too hard to lose weight. I am just trying to get back into running shape instead of trying to limit my calories.

I'm also BFing and these last ten pounds are giving me a hard time. I ran a lot pre-preg and I'm trying to get back into that but it is really hard to get out. Hopefully this summer my little guy will be big enough to go out in the jogger.

Lo-cal Snacks - anybody have a favorite?? Don't laugh, but I love air-popped popcorn with hot sauce.
Ick! Lol Hey..whatever works for ya! ;)

I'm a fan of:
- All Bran Cereal Bars in Brown Sugar
- Fruit
- Special K and skim milk
- 1oz servings of Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese (the bags of individually wrapped servings)
- Lite, fat free real yogurt mixed with lite, lo-fat granola

one of my new faves is Fiber One Cookies. The fiber is supposed to be very hard for the body to break down, so it keeps you fuller faster, and is a great source of the fiber you should eat everyday. To make it edible, I mix it with a bag of melted chocolate and peanut butter chips. Put on wax paper to let harden, and then store in the fridge. Yummy!! :) :) :)

I am a fan of 100 calorie packs too.

ETA: a tablespoon size cookie is 1.5 points (roughly 75 calories)

This group is a great idea. My daughter is 13 months old, and after she was born, I lost all of my baby weight plus about twenty more pounds, mostly due to the crazy effect breastfeeding had on my metabolism. Then a few weeks ago, I stopped breastfeeding and quickly put back on five pounds. I have no doubt I will gain back more if I don't start watching my eating. My DH and I are going on our first post-baby trip the first week of May and I really want to lose those 5 pounds before our trip.

I have joined WW -- I made lifetime after my daughter was born, and have just started going to meetings again. I am also exercising most mornings before work. I have to get up at 5:00 am, and it is a killer, but I am really motivated to lose this weight and, even more importantly, maintain my weight loss!

Way to go "losers"! :) I had a small victory this morning...I normally treat myself to 2 Krispy Kremes at least once a week. This morning, they were staring me right in the face, and I didn't buy any! I didn't have any donuts all week long! Of course, that probably doesn't make up for the peanut butter/chocolate egg that I ate last night. :o

Question for the BFing Moms: Anyone else "scared" of what's going to happen to your metabolism when you stop BFing? I'm hoping to meet my goal of BFing DS for a year, and I'm a little worried that I'm really going to pack on the pounds when I start weaning him. Am I alone in my worries?

shellbell516
04-07-2006, 08:36 AM
Jill - Yes, I worry about that too. I have noticed that lately I'm not quite as starved during the day as I used to be. Not sure what that means, but I'm trying not to snack as much.

Weigh-In: I just weighed in for WW this morning, so I thought I'd go ahead and post here before I forget.

I'm now 129.8, which means I'm down 1.8 pounds form last week. I'm happy with that considering we had company this weekend. I ate lots of Thai food, two donuts, a couple of hot dogs, and some baked french fries, etc. You get the idea. ;)

The one time I go on vacation and GAIN weight. Grrr! They had no yoga, no pilates, no sunrise walks like the concierge said they did, and no menu selections for the health-conscious. I am so mad that I booked that resort under the impression that it had these things...
I am up to 174.4 from 172.2 which means I gained 2.2lbs in the last week.

Way to go "losers"! :)
Lol! My sentiments exactly.

Question for the BFing Moms: Anyone else "scared" of what's going to happen to your metabolism when you stop BFing?
This is how I gained my weight. It was during the time that I was in the weaning process that I gained - I was still limited in my healthy food options due to DS's sensitivites yet wasn't burning as many calories.
If I were you, once you are ready to wean amp up the exercise and cut back the calories bit by bit so it doesn't hit you as hard as it hit me.
Now that he totally weaned, it is better because I can eat anything I want (ie: gassy veggies, fiber, soy stuff etc that isn't as fatty/carby as what I had to eat when BFing).

Ditto.
I have been at 134 for a month. It is driving me crazy. I am going to try to change things up a bit. I am going to try to eat more vegetables, lay off the carbs (bread, rice, & pasta) and maybe step it up on the exercising.

I am 10lbs away from my pp weight, which really pisses me off because I lost all of my weight with baby#1 by nine months. #2 is going to be nine months in 13 days. :(

scubasam

Go losers! ;)

Weigh-in: Up 1lb so at 139/+1

BUT.....I'm totally ok with it. I was such a good girl this last week (which surprises me...he-he) - I ate really well except for Friday night, which was pizza night as it is every Friday night (our pseudo date night). AND, I worked out most days. I started a food journal too which has helped.

Tues: Walked for 25 min w/ DS in stroller
Wed: Exercised at home for 25 min w/ exercise ball & light weights
Thurs: Walked for 30 min w/ DS in bjorn (that was friggin' HARD!)
Fri: N/A
Sat: Swam for 30 min

The only crappy thing is that AF showed yesterday and I always weigh a little more thanks to the bloat. Overall though, I think I'm in the gaining muscle=heavier phase. I always gain before losing when I first start working out. I feel so much more healthy and strong already which is such a great feeling.

Could you be gaining muscle (heavier) and losing fat (lighter)? I thought about that, but my clothes aren't fitting any better (which is a more accurate picture of how I'm doing I think). I've considered adding running to my workout routine, but I'm afraid to do so because of my arthritis. I quit using our elliptical machine because it was hurting my hips.

So I joined the Y in January when I extended my maternity leave. Figured I might as well do something productive while I'm home. Up to that point, I had dropped all but 2 pounds of my pregnancy weight (through nursing, I'm sure), but my body was totally distorted and nothing fit. Since January, I've lost 10 pounds, but I haven't lost a pound in about 4-5 weeks!! Its killing me. I go to the gym about 5 times a week, so I'm not sure what is going on.

Our routine is:
Mondays - step aerobics class and I do arm weights.
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday - spinning
Friday - Body Sculpting class

and I fit in another spin class occassionally on the weekends.

I am still nursing but have noticed a big dip in my supply since working out. I'm considering weaning because of it and also because I'm going back to work in 8 weeks. :(

I know I'm working out enough, but I'm not sure why I've plateaued. I actually started another thread about it a few weeks back, and the general consensus is that I'm not eating enough. I tend to eat the same things every day though. Breakfast is a yogurt/fruit/whey powder smoothie. Lunch is either two poached eggs on an english muffin with salsa and cheese, or I get those rotisserie chickens and eat some of that with mayo. And then a sensible dinner. I was snacking a bit in the afternoons so that may have been throwing me off, but I've sworn off all sweets to see if it does the trick. I'm willing to try anything at this point!

I have seen a big transformation in my body, but I still have such a gut. I swear I look 4-5 months pregnant. This was never a problem area for me before so it kills me. I had a csection - does that have anything to do with the pooch staying around longer???

Ok. I'll end my novel. Looking forward to us all being big losers!

I stayed the same this week

I really thought I did better this week. Uggh! Today I am starting an exercise plan - I haven't had much time for exercise, so I'm going to start walking on the track at lunch. I brought my clothes and am ready to start today. I figure I'll walk 4 days a week.

I'll report with my weight how many days I walked to hold myself accountable. :)

I hope everyone was as successful this week as LIZNKEITH! Congrats on your loss!

LIZNKEITH: That's awesome! Congrats! I'm starting back WW today. Hopefully, I'll be able to stick with it. I've been such a pig lately.

Somehow, though, I've managed to lose weight this week... even after 4 granola bars and Taco Bell yesterday! I am now below my pre-pregnancy weight. Yay! My pre-pregnancy weight was 128, but this morning I weighed in at 126.6! That means I've lost 5.4 pounds since joining this thread/group.

DH and I are going back on our diets starting today. We've been eating all kinds of junk food (pizza 1-2x per week!) and stuff for the last several weeks, and we're finally starting to feel guilty about it.

Thanks girls...I'm psyched. Usually it's a struggle to stay OP, but I've found it's coming really easily this time around. Hopefully I can stay this focused for a little while so I can lose some more of this weight.

Emily,
I really need to start exercising more, as well. That a good idea to report it with your weight.

Janna,
Wow! Great job! It always makes you feel good to see a loss where you are not expecting one. Congrats on getting below your pre-pregnancy weight!

No change this week. Still holding at 172lbs.

Why am I living on Special K if its not helping my waistline??
I think I need to get better about portion control. Americans eat so much more than we calorically need, and its a bad habit I should get under control. Too much of the "good" foods is still more calories and fat than I need. I think that's my problem.

QOTD: How the heck are you working out?
I get 1 or 2 strollercize classes in a week, but am too fried by the end of the day to work out when DH is home and have no one to watch DS for me during the day.
We have a gym in our buidling, which needless to say is not baby proof. And I don't have an extra Pack N Play to keep in there, and can't see DS sitting still for 30 minutes while I hit the elliptical. Is anyone else in my shoes? How do you do it?
I am a morning person, have the most energy first thing. This is when I need to go, but between DS needing his breakfast then his 9am nap I am just at a loss....

QOTD: How the heck are you working out?
Right now, I'm not! How's that for uplifting? I decided that I am going to walk during my lunch break because there is a nice track right out the door of my building. I just don't have time in the morning before work or after work, for that matter. I am planning to devote 30 minutes of my lunch hour to walking around the track, 4 days each week. I was suppossed to start today, but my DS is sick and I had to go get him from daycare. Tomorrow I have to make up the time I missed today, so I will start on Wednesday.

What is strollercize?

This weigh-in: 165.6/3.4/125

I gained from my last weigh-in here, but I'm actually down 1.2 pounds from last Friday. :) It was a bad weekend though! Two helpings at BIL's birthday party plus dessert and two helpings Sunday at lunch. Plus DH and I didn't get as many walks in last week. :o This is a new week, so hopefully I can make some progress in the right direction! ;)

QOTD~DH and I try to walk 1-3 miles three times a week. A lot depends on the weather and DD's schedule though. Then on days DH and I can't walk, I try to get in half a mile or so during the day.

Basically it is an exercize class you do with DC in the stroller. Since I have no one to watch him, we can only work out together!

I just found this thread - didn't even know it existed :)

Question - is it possible to fully restore pre-preggo abs? I mean, I didn't have abs of steel or anything like that, but I certainly didn't have a "fold" of flab over my waistband

Tips anyone?

FWIW I delivered on 8/20 so I am 8+ months post partum.

I stayed the same... again.

Its so frustrating!!! I go to they gym anywhere from 4-6 times a week. We belong to the Y, so there is daycare for DS. I usually do 3-4 spinning classes a week, an aerobics class, and then arm weights 3 of those days. I've started running now on the treadmill, so maybe that will help kick things up a notch. I just don't get why I'm not moving at all anymore. :(

As for the abs, I'm curious to hear myself. I had a csection - there is definitely a little shelf above the incision. I'm hoping it goes away sometime soon!! Anyone have any insight on that?

Cardio cardio cardio and ab work that uses the sides, top & bottom of the tummy.

I SO have to start exercising. There's no reason for me not to, just pure laziness. I forgot to mention something that is really bugging me, and what sparked my frustration about not losing the weight.

Over Easter my SILs kept *insisting* that I must be pg again. I literally had to consume alcohol in front of them and proclaim "I am not pregnant, I am simply out of shape" before they'd believe me. They are so used to me being fit, that the Flabbylicioous Kim they now see in their eyes must be up the duff.

I bought some hand weights and am doing just a 15 minute routine in my living room before DS's a.m. nap just to kick start myself. In cases anyone is interested:
- Jumping jacks
- Side bends
- Leg kicks (side, back & lifts)
- Arm work in all directions
- Sun Salutations
- Abs
- Butt lifts
- Stretching
All done rather quickly to keep my heart rate up. At least it's something...maybe it can burn off breakfast, which is a start.

I'm no expert, but maybe you aren't eating enough calories each day. Just at a glance, unless you're eating an enormous lunch, I'd bet you aren't getting 1200 calories a day, and that is suppossed to be the minimum. Have you ever been to www.fitday.com? It's a bit labor intensive upfront, but I love using it to keep track of calories, etc., and it even breaks down the vitamins you're getting each day. You can also set goals for yourself and keep track of those goals - they graph them on a chart. Anyway, maybe it would help you see what you are getting nutrient-wise for a few weeks, anyway, so you can figure out what is going on.

Since having DD, I have been so lazy. We barely get out of the house - except to walk around talking with neighbors, sitting in the backyard or to the mailbox! What I don't understand is that is SO NOT ME - before getting pregnant DH and I were total gym rats. I guess I blame it on being tired, but now DD is sleeping through the night I can't use being tired as an excuse since I am also getting sleep.

I am going back to work in 2 weeks and finally realized that I need to get my butt in gear. I tend to do better when I am completely busy. I also eat so much better when I am at the office for some reason so I think it will be good that I am getting back to work. Why is that? Plus, it will be good to just be more active again with a reason to get out of the house.

I know going back to work is going to be a hard transition but I think if I get back on my workout program it will be a little easier for me. Even though I going back to work, I still need to find ME time and why not make my ME time be my workouts.

One motivator that I have: DH said that as soon as I hit my goal weight we are booking a Hawaii trip!! I can't wait to get back to Hawaii!!

Thanks again for starting this thread!! Looking forward to loosing with all of you!!

I do eat a good lunch, so I doubt I under-eat. for example, yesterday my snacks were ff yogurt & granola and later 1/2 an apple, a few grapes, and about 2oz cheese.. lunch was 1/2 an individual veggie & goat cheese pizza.

I was kind of doing SBD, but that went completely out the window Memorial Day weekend. Now I'm counting calories and trying to get on walks with DS and the dog at least 4-5 times a week, though I'm sure it's not intense enough to really do anything.
