I just won an auction for the new in box wusthof 5" santoku knife. DH is going to KILL me for spending $56 on a knife, but with all the great things I've heard, i had to do it. Did I get a good deal?

I am assumming it is Wusthof classic? If so, the least expensive I could find it at traditional merchants was $79.95.

Yep, it's a good deal.
It won't be such a good deal once you find out how much you love that knife, and now must have the 7" santoku, and the, and the, and the. ;)

That's a "Classic" handle in that photo. The Grand Prix handle is all black; the culinar handle is all silver. In any case, I'm sure you're going to love it. :) And you can tell your DH: The Santokus do not come with the regular block sets of knives, so you will not have double-dipped yourself. :)

You'll love it, and that is NOT expensive for a good knife!

I'll be sure to tell him-& I did not think it was a bad pric either colz! Our "young married couple" knives that we bought a couple of years ago are from tarjay, so I am excited! The man says he will have it out to me tomorrow or friday, so I should have it by tuesday or wednesday of next week! :D

A good knife can even excite a DH, once he tries it.

You ladies are making me so excited :D I have only recently (past couple years) developed an actual enjoyment for cooking, so it's still new to me to get so anxious about getting a new cooking tool! Lol I'm sure we're both going to love it.

*sigh* Is it possible to be in love with a knife? The minute I opened it I cut up an apple to see how it did, and was having so much fun that I diced the whole thing! LOL I just put some apple dumpings on the stove :D Dh was making fun of me, saying it worked the same as our knives. Well, then he tried it, and started talking about buying a whole set! HAHA

My fiance got a 5" santoku knife with his christmas present money.... It isn't the same type as you, (he ordered it from Alton Brown's website) but when he finally got it in the mail. He did the EXACT same thing.
Only he was a tad worse......for the first week or so....he would actually take the knife over to friends houses to show it off to everyone.
We are probably going to end up with quite a few good knives like that. They are definitely an investment....but they are SO much better than your typical "tarjay" knives :-)
