I don't want to start a debate here, but has anyone heard of this movie? Has anyone seen it?
I just heard about it today on the Bob & Sheri Show on the radio. Sheri had gone to see it over the weekend and was talking about it.
It's a "documentary" dealing with what could've happened if the south had won the Civil War. Alternative histories facinate me. Here's what imbd.com says about it:
Plot Outline: Through the eyes of a british "documentary", this film takes a satirically humorous, and sometimes frightening, look at the history of an America where the South won the Civil War.
Here's information on it:

This one has a trailer and when I watched it, I just sat there with my mouth hanging open!

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm definitely going to. The filmmaker is an assistant professor of theatre at the University of Kansas, so I really want to support his work. Furthermore, I think he has important things to say about race in this country. And if it made you uncomfortable, Jaycee, I think that is exactly what he wanted. Not great for you, but a victory for Kevin Willmont, I think. :)
Here is a biography that might help someone understand where he is coming from with this film:
Kevin Willmont (http://www.ku.edu/~kuthf/willmott.html)
And I think I can understand where he is coming from, given that we grew up in towns about 20 minutes apart. I don't think it is essential that you have that background to have an interesting perspective on his work, of course, but I think it might help me come to it knowing what he was trying to achieve, whereas some other people might just be going "WTF was he trying to do here?"

Thats exactly what DH said, and I don't disagree :)
ETA: Sorry for the short answers, but I have a squirmy baby on my lap who won't go to sleep.

Oh, gosh, don't even worry about it! Maybe we'll have a chance to chat about it once I've actually seen it. :)

I'd like to see it, but the only place it's playing in Ohio is Cleveland--4 hours away from me! I'm hoping it'll come to to Columbus--I'll drive there to see it.

I really, really want to see this. It sounds fascinating. It's playing in Seattle at a theater near the UW. I think FH and I might go with some friends this weekend.

Confederate States of America is a brilliant mockumentary about what would have happened if the South won the Civil War. Presented as a British television series about the history of the C.S.A., this version of American history has British and French troops join with the Confederates to rout the North. With Lincoln in jail, and Jefferson Davis in the White House, the C.S.A. invades Mexico and South America, sides with Hitler in World War II, and builds a wall to separate themselves from Canada.
This film was nominated at the International Fantasy Film Awards for best film in 2005, and was an audience favorite at Sundance Film Festival. Kevin Willmott’s Confederate States of America is a “should I laugh?” kind of comedy that explores issues of racism with biting satire and poignancy.
