my mom used one when I was little, she says I loved it. Wish they sold the one we saw last year, it had a little musical pad that would go underneath the jumper so the baby could make noises as they jumped. I think it would be pretty hard to have it snap off, as there is usually a locking type mechanism on them and as long as the doorframe is up securely, your little Logan will love it.

Mommy2ml, I remember when my younger brother was a baby we had one of those jumpers and he just loved it!

Erika and Pamela Thanks! :) I migt just add one to my registry soon :)
Also from this weekend... I went to Buy Buy Baby and filled out my registry there a bit more. :) Mackie helped... She wasn't quite sure what to make of scanning, but not buying anything! LOL

GTT - My literature says this is usually done between weeks 24-28. I've got to take it early this time because I failed the one hour last time. I'm getting nervous because I don't want to do the 3-hour again ... made me feel really icky.
doorway jumper - We borrowed one from my cousin, but it didn't fit our doorways that well. Either that, or we aren't using it correctly.

Jenzen I am taking that whole day that I am doing the 3hr - I felt sick most of that day IIRC with my DD. I have sneaking suspicion I might actually have GD this time around, so I am dreading it even more :P
I am going so stir crazy today... don't know what it is, but I have just felt like I am trying to shake a bug since sometime last week and it seems to have gotten worse from yesterday on. I just want to go home and lay down and relax awhile. My parents take Mackie a couple of evenings a week - just pick her up from school and take her to dinner to give me a break. Tonight is one of those nights, and I am looking forward to some time to myself. :)

I promised hubby back when we were just getting out of the first trimester I wouldn't buy any other clothes (we had gender neutral sleepers and such, that we bought in TN) until we found out the gender. Well the other day I went shopping for a gift for my stepson's b-day and just saw the cutest outfit, I just had to get for our son. What do you think? it was on clearance for like $9 from $20, it's by Carter part of the Cute and Cuddly line.

rippy - hope you're feeling better!
ericka - that outfit is adorable!
pamela - yeah for going back to work!
mommy2ml - very scary! Glad everything is OK!
midwestengal - I haven't read your post, but I hope you are OK!
Great belly shots ladies!!!
doorway jumpers - we have the Jumperoo by Fisher-Price. DD loved it!
Hello to everyone else!
*****
I had my 24 week appt this morning. Everything looks good. Baby's h/b was 159. I'm up a total of 9 lbs for the whole pregnancy. I was the same way w/ DD. Got my glucose drink for the 1 hr GTT at my next appt. I'm not too worried as I passed w/ DD.
Threadmistress - my next appt is 7/10. Thanks!

Thanks for the compliment Sue. Just trying to make us a little different from the rest of the threads (although a few liked the first post so much with the blinkies, they copied them)
Midwestern gal - I read your update, glad to hear that things are ok with the baby, sorry they can't figure out what was wrong, let's hope it stays away the rest of the pregnancy.

awww shucks ladies, you all make it easy to keep updating this thread. Thank you all for posting in red as asked and being patient with updates that Michelle or I try to get to in a timely manner.
Me - well I was in a mini nesting mode today. I had a tote under our bed and 1 in the closet. I had numerous boxed baby items laying around the bottom of the closet, so today I got everything into totes, pulled the items from the underbed tote to put in the closet one, pulled all the clothes out and washed everything so I could put that in the underbed tote and take inventory to make sure I have registered for what I need. All the baby clothes that I have are clean and ready to go. Figured I would get them done now in case of bedrest, or getting busy with a new job and just to have less clothes to have to wash after my baby shower.

I've been in mini-nesting mode too. I just want to organize and clean everything. Of course being in the process of looking for a house makes it so much harder!
I am feeling much better today. I was in quite a bit of pain yesterday. I decided that if I couldn't stand up straight when I woke up this morning without being in pain I would take the day off and go to the doctor. Well I was fine this morning. No pain at all. I think Tristan was just in a really bad position all day yesterday. I am a little queasy though. I think my stomach is getting crowded because I feel full more than I feel hungry now and I don't eat much at all during mealtimes.
Wish us luck tonight... we are going to see a bunch of houses and we are hoping one of them will be "it." We are running out of time....

What a morning :) We have this Bebe Sounds heartbeat monitor that we bought and never got to use with Rebekah. As I was cleaning out totes yesterday, I pulled and left it out. Hubby came home and put the batteries in it and wanted to use it right than. He tried to hear the heartbeat, not sure he ever did but he heard other sounds. This morning I pulled it out after hubby left and laid down for my own chance to hear him. Well our little man was just going all over and kicking his little legs, could hear the thumps and see them as I listened. It was a very entertaining morning for me. :) Could hear him swallowing fluid and when he moved it would go silent. Just so cool to hear all that stuff.

I will add an ultrasound pic after the "Big One" tomorrow.
We've pretty much decided to stick with the Green Team and not find out the baby's sex until birth... but by tomorrow at this time, I may have changed my mind.

erika adorable outfit!!!! :) And thank you from me as well for an excellent job with the thread :)
Nesting... I have the urges to do nesting - clean and re-org... but the exhaustion that hit me the last couple of weeks is just getting worse and I have no energy or patience to do anything right now. Tons to do, no energy to do it with :P
MAckie has been having sleep issues, which basically gives me less sleep overall, so were talking sleep loss in addition to exhaustion from pg... even worse. I hate having that sleep deprived feeling before Logan is even here. MAkes me worry about those first few weeks with REALLY no sleep! LOL
Jenzen01
06-13-2006, 07:20 AM
mommy2ml - I hear you on the sleep problems. Gabe's been getting up in the middle of the night all week, and I have no idea why. He has a little cold, but that really shouldn't throw him this much. It's driving me nuts because he just started sleeping through the night when he was 13 months old, so we're finally back to normal at our house. We had a long year of no sleep, and I was hoping things would stay normal until this baby arrived.
I am super cranky at DH today. Don't know if it's pregnancy-related or not, but I just feel taken-advantage-of. I'm tired of cleaning, cooking, working, taking care of Gabe and being pregnant without even getting a thank you or a hug or whatever. He's been fishing so much, and he doesn't realize that he's giving his boat more attention than he's giving his pregnant wife.
Mommy2ml

Jenzen Try telling him. But try to tell him without getting upset first. Hard, I know, but being a man he probably does not even realize what he is doing or how it's affecting you. The hormones and sleep loss are likely working together. Tell him how you feel and give him the chance to change things to make them better... if her doesn't, then you can always rip him a new one! LOL ;) (I think of this of the honey-bee strategy - pour the honey on first and then if he doesn't clean it up he's inviting the sting of the bee LOL)

induction - just wondeirng if anyone else knows they are likely going to be induced? If so, how do you feel about it?
The echogenic bowel, though it's getting better, is the reason my doc gave. She said they just do not let anyone who has been shown to have it present in any u/s go past their EDD. So I am likely to be induced (unless I go early on my own and MAckie was nearly a week late, so that's not likely).
Add to that they cannot even agree on a definite EDD and that just freaks me out!
I then think of the fact that I am due the week of Yom Kippor and we have a whole nother set of Oys. I could be looking at induction between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur or just following Yopm Kippur, or just before Rosh Hashana.... etc.... Anyway, I know I should not worry about such things, but it has been on my mind. I am hoping my doc is willing to work with me on this stuff, but then I worry about haggling over the date and if I should just let the doc decide, or if I should get more invoved or try to insist more that we wait longer.... :P

Mommy2ml Babyuniverse.com seems to have really reasonable shipping if you can wait for ground. Thanks for the tip! Really, we only have Babies R Us and Baby Depot by us. (Very northern Chicagoland.) I didn't really want a low-end crib from Target or Wal-Mart which are the only other options in the area.
nutter13 I was having lots of BH last week, they do feel weird. I didn't know water helped with that, I'll be sure to keep up my drinking. My OB told me she wanted me to take the GTT during weeks 27-28.
Ericka Cute outfit! And, another thanks for maintaining this thread. You obviously have cute ideas if others are copying! ;)
MichelleRenee Good luck house hunting!
Rippy Cute belly, and little baby!
---
Had my appointment last night, and it was mostly business as usual. Except I gained 6 lbs, and the nurse said I should watch what I eat. Oops! And, the OB got out a tape measure and measured my belly for the first time. Everything looked just fine. Next appointment, they'll give me my glucose drink and I'll have the GTT the appointment after that. (End of July-ish.)
Next OB appointment is July 10

I may get inducted, we are not sure at this point.
Since I have diabetes, they will be monitoring the baby's size
With my previous infant loss the OB has already told me that I will not go past 40 weeks at all.
And as long as my cervix doesn't open anymore and the ring continues to hold, the Peri will have me go to term

Well, I thought my swelling was better, but after a pretty light day at work yesterday (got to spend a fair amount of time at my desk) I was swollen again. I checked my BP when I got home (still have a cuff from last time) and it was up a little. I was really hoping to avoid this! We really can't afford to do without my income for more than maternity leave, and I don't see how I can be on even partial bedrest with DD.

rippy - nice belly shot!
michellerenee - good luck house hunting!
induction - no reason to think I will be at this point. DD came on her own, 3 days late.
nesting and sleep deprivation - yup, got 'em both. I just want to get a huge dumpster and throw out all of our clutter. I really wish I had taken the time to declutter before DD. My goal is to get rid of one bag of useless stuff each week. So far I've been pretty good. DD was also one of those kids who didn't start sleeping at night until she was 18 months old. I mean, I was up with her every single night - at least twice a night - for 18 months. Sunday night she was up again 3 times :rolleyes: . The sleep deprivation is, to me, the absolute worst part of parenting. It can really take a toll.
Hope everyone is doing well!

nesting - I just warned DH that I'm mentally making a to-list, and it has got to get done soon. The reality of how little time I have to get everything ready has set in, so I ordered DS's new comforter today. Here's a pic:
http://cdn.llbean.com/products/home_garden/38689/images/M38689_Navy_Green.jpg
I'm going to paint the walls light blue and paint his book shelf the navy that's in the quilt. DH will be painting fish on the walls (he's got an art degree, but I've never seen him do actual art. he's a graphic designer, so everything is on the computer. i'm pretty excited about seeing him paint something.)
I washed all of my rummage sale finds yesterday. Now, I need to go through the bins and dig out all neutral items.
marathongirl - Not that I'm happy that your DD didn't STTN until 18 months, but I'm glad to meet another mother who's been through that. I get so tired of hearing from parents who's kids STTN at 4 weeks or whatever.
mommy2ml - Thanks for the advice. :rolleyes: I'm not quite so crabby now, and I feel ready to talk to DH this evening. Just feeling so darn hormonal ...

Hi all,
I keep thinking I will keep up ... and then something happens again to make me busy!
Had my 20-week u/s -- uneventful, fortunately. Saw the confirming girl parts (the chromosomes of the CVS were unlikely to be wrong, but I had this nagging fear they would see boy parts. If they had it would mean the CVS got my cells & wasn't correct. But fortunately that didn't happen).
I am now the proud owner of two "Skeletor" pics. :)
I saw a few previous posts about jumpers. I just finished reading Baby Bargains, and they say to avoid jumpers because there have been too many recalls and injuries from the product.
As for induction ... if you're facing the possibility, you might want to read up on it. From what I read about it you might be better off with a scheduled C-section (and understand I'm not crazy about C-sections, so this says something). And don't even think about doing it without an epidural. Fortunately it sounds like some of you will only be induced if you go over your due date (less likely with a second, BTW).
Apparently doctors are doing so many inductions and scheduled C-sections that the length of the average pg is now 39 weeks (this was in Time magazine a few months ago). That strikes me as a bad development. But that's me.
On a lighter topic ... I know there might have been some discussion about this before ... but does anyone have opinions or recommendations for strollers? Particularly post-6-mos strollers? (I'll probably get one of those stroller frames to fit the carseat for the infant stage).

Maplekitty I am really curious. Chances are the pill she's on is the mini-pill, progesterone only, like what is in the Mirena IUD. I love comparing and seeing the similarities and differences in the systems too. :)
I talked to my SIL yesterday and asked her about the BC thing again. She said she's on a progesterone-only BC pill. It's a continuous pill, so she doesn't get her period. I'm sorry I forgot the name...

First of all, a great big THANK YOU!!! to everyone for their concern!!!
Our doctor was frustrated about having no results, either, but thankfully, we ruled out all of the really awful stuff. She thinks it was either the absolute worst case of ligament pain she's ever seen, or else possibly a very very very small tear in my abdominal wall that was irritated by the baby's movement (which is all.the.time). I didn't think it was ligament pain at all, because I've had that before (sometimes sharp but usually more like a severely pulled muscle) and this was more like dull scissors cutting into me for an extended period of time--I doubled over and almost fell.
But luckily, like I mentioned before, all turned out well. I had to stay at home in bed yesterday and all day today. . . and all I can say is that for you gals on bedrest. . . . more power to you--I'm stir crazy after only what, 48 hours?? You all deserve a lot of credit for being able to handle the bedrest!!
_________________________
Glad to hear everyone else is doing well!
As to nesting and sleep deprivation: No real nesting instincts yet, thank goodness, as we don't really have the space for it! Plus, we just moved, so we kind of cleaned as we packed. But I'm sleep deprived for sure. . . our little man likes to "party all night!"
The only other thing of note is that the whole time I was in bed/couch yesterday, my doggie Cassie (black lab mix, she's 2 and kinda puppyish still!) wouldn't leave my side, and kept checking on me. So I'm feeling much better about the whole baby and doggie issue!

Thanks everyone for the congrats! It is starting to seem SO REAL now! I will have a son! ACK! :)
To the ladies that are having boys, are you doing a circumcision? My OB does them so our guy will have his done at the hospital. But I was thinking, does it have to be specially taken care of after the procedure or anything! Like the umbilical cord? Sorry I am such a newbie....:o
Midwesternalgal- Glad to hear that things are better. What a scare! I hope it doesn't reoccur.
MichelleRenee- Good luck with the house! Hope you get it!
Jenzen-Totally understand about being crabby with your husband! My poor DH has really taken some meaness from me this pregnancy. :o I am just so irritable with him a lot of the time and don't have much patience. But I've tried to explain to him that it is just the pregnancy and I think he understands.
jeant- we have bought a car seat frame as our first stroller and bought a Maclaren to be our stroller around 6 mos or so. I love them because they are lightweight, compact, stylish and sturdy. (They can hold kids up to 55lbs!) They are on the higher end, but we both have smaller cars and couldn't bear to go with something big and bulky like a travel system.
Hope that helps!
Pamela-How cool you got your letters! I will have to check that ebay store out. I am gonna do letters over the crib as well but I think I will attach them with velcro to the wall as I have read other moms-to-be have done as well. I saw one person decupaged (did I spell that right?) her letters with scrapbook paper. I love that idea!
ErickaJarett- Yes, thank you for all your hard work! You are awesome! We were looking at the Bebe sounds the other day in the store, one of the ones that plays music too. Your experience sounds so cool we may need to go buy it!
Nesting- Hasn't hit me yet! I wish it would. I am more in procrastination mode. I very badly need to go through closets and rooms and organize. Maybe you ladies will convince me and I will start tonight!!
I have tried to catch up on everything. Sorry if I left anyone out!
Have a great week!!

Nesting - I really really want to get started on the nursery and get it all set up, but we have SO MUCH to do around the house first. Since we just moved in a month ago, we still need to replace all the electrical sockets and light switches (because the ones we have in the house are 40 yrs old!), Curt needs to finish painting my kitchen cabinet doors, and hang install them. He's working on installing the hardwood in the basement (currently it's just cement from where we ripped the old ugly carpet up). This summer is so crazy busy for us, with his band competitions, and weddings, and so much more - ther is hardly a free weekend!
I want to get started on nesting, Curt just wants to get the house finished. I can see us scrambling in September to get things done :(

Apparently doctors are doing so many inductions and scheduled C-sections that the length of the average pg is now 39 weeks (this was in Time magazine a few months ago). That strikes me as a bad development. But that's me.
I totally agree. I read somewhere that the rate of induction has increased from something like 10% in the early 1990s to 50%+ in the early 2000s. No decrease in maternal or infant mortality, which implies that a lot of these inductions are for convenience sake.
The average length of a first pregnancy is supposed to be 41.5 weeks, and in France they consider 41 weeks full term. I won't consider getting induced (barring any clear problems) until I am 43 weeks.
I have to keep reminding myself not to nest, as we're moving in September. I keep wanting to buy things for the baby, but I have to remind myself that we have no where to store anything right now - all the suitcases under the bed are already full!!!
maplekitty, I saw your post about placenta previa. It's important to find out if you have complete or partial previa, or if you just have a low-lying placenta. Complete placenta previa can be really dangerous and is definitely grounds for a scheduled cesarean. But if the cervix is only partially covered, you can probably still have a normal birth. And if the placenta is just low in your uterus, there's probably nothing to worry about. Funny that they don't want you back to check on it until 32 weeks - someone I know was told she had partial previa at 20 weeks, but by 26 weeks (I think), they had done another ultrasound and saw that the placenta had been drawn up away from the cervix, so no problems!

We will be moving sometime, not sure if it will be before baby comes though.
Circumcision - we will have it done. My best friend has 2 boys and when they were newborns she was showing me how she has to care for the incision sites for the first week or so. You have a little gauze pad that you put antibiotic ointment on to help it heal and just put that gauze on and than the diaper. She said worst time is if it's a poop diaper, but it's not too bad.

emermel - good luck with the move!
circumcision - I dunno. DH and I have spoken some about it and he wants to have it done. Maybe we'll have another girl and it will be a non-issue.
midwesterngal - glad everything is OK and that you're feeling better!
maplekitty - I was told I had a low-lying placenta w/ DD. They did a repeat u/s around 35 weeks and it had moved up fine.
qc - hope your u/s sound goes well!
Good morning to everyone!

Thanks for the crossed-fingers everyone. This is truly a nerve wracking time for us. It is the first house for both of us and we are a little nervous. We stayed in a price range we could afford, but it is still very scary.
Circumcision: yep, we are doing it. With my nephew my sister just had some ointment to put on it each diaper change and that was it. She said she was surprised with both of her boys how quickly it healed.
Nesting: luckily the house we made an offer on is all updated inside. The only thing I would have to do before getting the nursery ready is paint the walls, and even that would be something I was doing out of choice, as the walls look fine like they are.
Quartercentury, we have the same problem! Our apartment is busting at the seams! We ended up putting our baby furniture on layaway just so we would have a place to keep it until we move into our house!
emermel, Tristan seems to do that on my left side. It's like he has this one spot that is so uncomfortable for me but he insists on wedging himself in there!

MichelleR- Ohhh! Good luck with the house! :D

Circumcision - We did this with DS, and it was no big deal ... just had to put petroleum jelly on it for the first week so it didn't stick to his diaper. It healed very quickly. Also, when he had his 6-month checkup (i think it was his 6-month, anyway) some of the foreskin had reattached, so the dr. pulled it back. Gabe cried more from that than he did for his shots, but he was only upset for a little while. For a few weeks after that, we had to keep pulling it back after his bath to make sure it didn't reattach.
Congrats to all you house-buyers! I don't envy moving this late in a pregnancy, however. :)

circumcision yes, we'll do it...left it up to DH
So, my OB appt. got canceled yesterday 20 minutes before the appt. :eek: Good thing I hadn't left yet. I was a little upset, I was in Dr. mode with all my questions ready to go...and they rescheduled for Friday...they said they were doing me a favor by putting me in, they're the ones that canceled on me!! But DH will not be able to go b/c it's in the middle of the day :( He's always been to all my appts. b/c I can't drive, good thing it's nearby my job so I can just walk.

nutter13, bummer. My first 2 appointments were canceled about 20 minues before. I was so mad that twice I had taken the morning off for no reason. It is so frustrating, but at least the dr usually has a good reason... someone else's L&D!

Hi girls.
Popping in quickly (during work of course).
I definitely don't envy those of you moving. I moved at around this time in my last pregnancy. It was a real pain. I was totally happy to have a house and, trust me, it was worth it but I was soooo tired from moving boxes, unpacking and painting. I still have some work to do before this baby comes, painting and rearranging but I'm definitely glad we're not trucking our furniture in and out of the house :)
Circumcision - I don't think we ever considered not doing it. We'll have it done.
Nesting - Definitely feeling the urges. I'm going tomorrow to buy the paint we're using for 3 rooms that we're painting. I think all the painting will definitely help out those urges.
Not much else going on here. I had a terrible episode w/my b/p yesterday. I really got kind of scared. I'll be mentioning it to my doctor of course. Otherwise, the baby's moving like crazy! And now it's not just kicks, I can feel him just changing position. If I lay a hand on my stomach I can feel a little body part move across my belly. What an awesome feeling! I'm definitely more aware of this baby's movements than I ever was of the other 2. I have no clue why.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
QC - Good luck with the u/s!

Circumcision? How did this come up? We won't have it done. I would encourage those of you that are planning on/considering a hospital circumcision to watch a video of the procedure being done. One can be downloaded here (http://www.intact.ca/vidintro.htm) (the "intro page" explains what is happening, the video itself can be downloaded from the bottom of the page). Be sure to get the full length one, as it has sound. I know that similar videos are shown in some childbirth education classes.
Even if you don't watch the video, please be aware that hospital circumcisions are typically done without anesthesia and can take upwards of 20 minutes to complete. This means your baby is strapped down and having his genitals operated on for what can be a lengthy period and he can feel everything. Also please note that an adult male foreskin unfolds to the size of a 3X5" card and is full of erogenous nerve endings, so it's not "just a flap of skin" or a useless body part.
I will be back later with u/s news!

QC - I don't want to get into a lengthy debate because it's a personal decision, but those of us who have chosen/are choosing circumcision have done so for a reason. Your post makes it sound like anyone who is educated wouldn't choose the procedure. To put it in perspective, we live in a county where 95% of male infants are circumsized, so there's definitely a difference of opinion here. There's also religious and family considerations.
Anyway, just wanted to lightly say that your post was sort of offensive to me because although I read up on the matter, DH and I still chose it for personal reasons.

Also, local anesthetic for circumcisions is standard of care here in the states. I would insist on that being done. DH and I are both peds, I personally do not like doing circs and if it was entirely up to me, I wouldn't circ our son if we had one. But DH does them very quickly and the babies usually sleep through them for him, so he wants our son circ'ed. I also have a lot of success with soothing babies with sugar water while they're being circ'ed--I think it works even better than the local (although I always do both). I know this is a big can of worms, but I do feel it's a personal decision and people shouldn't be made to feel guilty if they choose to.

The difference of opinion varies quite a lot according to where you live:

No comment on religious considerations, but it's not correct to assume that if your son isn't circumcised he will stand out (no pun intended) among his peers.

Hey! Go Midwest!!
It is a very personal decision. I would like to think that everyone who gives birth to a son would do what they can to be educated on circumcision before doing it. I have no doubt that the women in this thread who are having boys have made as educated of a choice as possible.

"it's not correct to assume that if your son isn't circumcised he will stand out (no pun intended) among his peers."
was that really being implied by anyone? I didn't get that feeling.
Nothing new to offer on this topic, but I would like to support Jenzen's sentiment, and I agree 100% with jbemommy: "I do feel it's a personal decision and people shouldn't be made to feel guilty if they choose to." And jbemommy, thanks for noting that you are actually a pediatrician who has performed this procedure - I think that was important for us to know!

sorry I've been MIA for a while! Very busy here! Quick little updates - I had my first baby shower on sunday and it was really lovely! my SIL threw it and we all had a great time. I'll be having another one, thrown by my mom, in July.
baby has been much more active lately, and DH can see the kicks finally! it's very neat!
going in for that 3D ultrasound this afternoon since my mom is here - should be interesting!

maplekitty that is the mini-pill then - the POP (progesterone only) pill is one of the more common forms used of BC by BFing mommies :) I love looking at te differeces and similarities between the countries with things like this :)
michellerenee I hope all goes well for the house!
slvspring It is a matter of little gauze pads and bacitracin or similar for a few days. My friends had twin boys and it was no biggie to clean and care for the area on both of them and they were fine (a little cranky that day, but starting the next day that was gone too!:))
jeant We're looking into doubles as far as strolelrs go - the sit n stand I have gotten already and I am looking to get the Combi SBS. Make sure you take the strollers for a test drive with a bunch of books or something in them to get a feel for how they will handle with some weight in them. Some feel great with nothing in them then you add baby and they can't turn easily for anything!
nutter that sucks having your appt postponed like that! I like that my practice has a system where the on-call doc does not have office hours and the docs in office do not get called to the hospital. Saves a lot of delays and headaches, I think!
QC I have to agree with Jenzen. Local anesthetic is always used here, in additionto baby tylenol and topical anesthetic. In addition, whenthe procedure is done culturally - by a Mohel - the procedure has additional safeguards and all care is taken to make the procedure quick and painless. The procedure has come a loooong way since those early days of no anesthetic and strapping the baby down in a clean/surgical room.
circ in general I'm Jewish, born and raised and we will be having it done, hopefully, by a Mohel (DH is pro hospital circ though). I am looking into 2 in particular who are both Mohels and urologists for the best possible outcome. On the other hand, one of the OBs in my group is also a Mohel and quite religious as well. One caveat - baby Logan is due around the high holidays, which makes for some additional difficulties if it has to be done on Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashana (Circumcision is considered to take precedence over all holy days including those, so it would be done anyway), at least difficulties in scheduling a Mohel to be on call for us around then. I might have 2 on stand-by just in case. With a Mohel it is done 8 days after the birth, after being sure baby is over a certain weight, healthy and gaining weight and eating properly. My friend with the twins waited an additional couple of weeks as one of the twins was below a certain weight and the Mohel refused to do it until he was above the weight and gaining well.
---------------
update on us
Getting an alarm for the door to our apartment, should be here tomorrow, just will need Rob to install it. Been starting to nest a bit - going through lots and lots of stuff that need to get gone before we can start moving baby gear in! :)
Officially 24 weeks along tomorrow, viability begins! :)
Still being told by passersby that I look like I am ready to pop any time now... they are shocked when hearing I am not due till early Oct. Yesterday I had my DD at the Peds and one of her docs passed me in the hall and was like "I guess we'll be seeing you in the hospital soon, huh?" GAH! I have not gained much weight either! I have been varying from 6-8lbs. LAst appt I had lost 2 lbs instead of gaining! c'mon! Must people comment like that?
I was officially told that I will not be allowed to work from home after the baby is born. I have a choice to make now. I don't think we canmake it on just my DH's salary, but we cannot afford 2 in d/c since it'd take more than half my take home pay to have them there. I am considering p/t work to bring in a bit more $$, or maybe just trying to find something where I can work from home at another company. I am waiting to find out if they will even cover me unde the medical beyond the approved disability time that I am out. after that I might even get stuck on COBRA or HEalthy NY for the remainder of my UNPAID leave time :eek: I am freaking out just a bit and cannot go to Rob cause he will just be so unsupportive about it.

maplekitty, I saw your post about placenta previa.
I'll have to ask at my next appnt next week. They didn't say the degree of it, just that I have a lowlying placenta, known as a placenta previa. That's really all she said. I'm not worrying too much right now, I know that most of them do rise through the pregnancy, and I guess I'll find out at 32 weeks. I'm not too worried if I do end up having to have a c-section, I'm not going to psych myself up and get all scared about the idea - obviously to deliver vaginally is my first option and something I really want to experience. I know a lot of women get scared about c-sections because it's surgery, but I've had 3 major surgeries in my life already, so I'm not scared about that.
Mommy2ml
06-14-2006, 10:02 AM
maplekitty A c/s if medically necessary, is really not a huge deal. A friend of mine had a 3 children (3yo and the twins who are about 4-5mo) all by c/s for medical reasons. This last time she was up and around and running errands the day after getting home from the hospital - less than a week after the surgery. I think it's one of this ethings, like an amnio, that just has a ton of fear wrapped onto it from old wives tales and the old days of how it was done. Now it's doen in minutes and you don't feel a thing. Recovery is not nearly as long as it once was, and they have you up and around almost as quickly as from a vaginal birth LOL
I am scared of failed induction to be honest... Then you have the exhaustion from labor and then you have the surgery added to it. I do plan to go drug free as long as possible even if I am induced, but as long as baby and I are healthy, in the end it does not really matter I think.

Is anybody feeling like their body is not really their own anymore? Yesterday I was not feeling well, but it didn't really feel pregnancy related. I felt like my body was full of air. Strange explaination, I know but it was driving me nuts why I could not figure out what was going on with me! It's all good though.
I also got my first comment by a stranger the other day. She just asked how I was feeling and when I was due. I was excited to be "noticed" because for a while it just looke like I was gaining weight in my stomach but now I'm really starting to feel like I look pregnant!
Nesting - I'm in full nesting mode! My upstairs looks like a tornado blew threw it because of it! I have so much stuff to donate, it's unbelievable! I'm almost done with the office/spare bedroom so once that's done I can move on to Madison's room! I'm hoping to start painting this weekend! :)

jeant Nice to see you back, I was just thinking how it had been awhile since you'd dropped by. :) Glad to hear everything is going well. Not that I've actually used it or anything, but DH and I loved the Peg Perego Pliko P3 when we tried it out in the store.
MidwesternGal That must be frustrating not to know what exactly happened, but let's just hope it doesn't happen again. I just have to say your dog sounds so loveable. Labs are just big babies, my parents have a 7 year old yellow and he's never grown up.
MichelleRenee Hope you get the house! The house we're in is our first and it was a bit nerve-wracking during the looking and bidding phase, but when you're closed it's such a wonderful feeling.
nutter Does your OB office have a policy where you have to cancel at least 24 hours beforehand? Mine does so if they tried that, it would really tick me off. I guess with that type of specialty, there are the unexpected babies though.
circumcision DH and I have now decided not to circumcise, but my friend did with her son, and she told me that different OBs will take off different amounts of foreskin. (The procedure is done only by the OB here in Illinois.) So for those decide to do it, you might want to check what your OB/ped takes off.
nesting It's begun a little for me. I spent some time cleaning this weekend instead of just laying around. Does that count?

Mommy2ml, that stinks!I really hope you get the job stuff worked out soon. I know how stressful that can be! People keep telling me I look like I am about to pop as well and it is kind of annoying. I thought that wouldn't start til the 7th month or so.
Michelle, thanks! Glowing.... pulling my hair out.... same dif, right?
bunnybeth, according to some people, any cleaning a pregnant woman does is nesting.:p Thanks for the info... I will have to check with our OB on that.
Does anyone else have an outie belly button yet? Mine went straight from innie to outie with no flat stage in between. Mike thinks it is SOOOO funny.
Jenzen01
06-14-2006, 11:10 AM
mommy2ml - I'm pretty much in the same boat. With two kids in daycare, the expense would eat about 2/3 of my salary. So, we're trying to figure out what to do because we do need some of my income. I could freelance from home, and my VP has talked to me about doing some copy writing from home, but I don't want to bet on that option yet. Otherwise, I could give piano lessons, take in another child, or something like that. It's all rather scary, considering this is going to happen in four months ... whether I'm ready or not. :rolleyes:
outie belly button - Yep. Mine just went flat last time, but this time it has totally popped. You can even see it through my shirt sometimes.

Thanks for all the kind words...it's the first time my appt. was canceled so it's not so bad. Plus I get to see a Dr. on Friday that I like much better :)
MichelleRenee mine isn't completely an outie yet but it's becoming much flater every day, although last time it just got flat, never poked out.
Bubeleh
06-14-2006, 11:41 AM
Wow so much to talk about....
outie belly button Nope I still have an innie, not as deep as it used to be but no where near flat.
circumcision We are having this done, not at the hospital but at a ceremony 8 days after birth (Brit) wih a Mohel. We have seen it done many times by this Mohel and it takes about 2 minutes for the actualy snipping. Most babies have healed within a week or so with simple vasaline. I agree it is a very personal and/or sultural decision. I am quite surpised by the graph that showed the rate of the west to be so low, as it seems every baby boy we know has had it done.
Mommy2ml I have a lot of the same issued I am actually due the day before Yom Kippur, but my family tends to go early. I'm just hoping we can avoid both holy days, but its really not up to me. Plus my OB doesn't deliver on Yom kippur and I really want her to do the delivery. As far as work I am going to be doind a lot from home, because I really enjoy working and we need my income. I would suggest going for the freelance opportunities.
maplekitty Its normal to fear a c/s, but I think a lot of the adversity on forums and other outlets is that there is such a pressure or expectation for women to deliver naturally that it tends to put unnecessary pressure and anxiety against other methods, when really its up to the baby, if she needs to come out at that moment, you do whatever it takes.
MichelleRenee Good luck with the house. I don't envy you moving, its so much work!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went to our first class on Monday it was a transition to parenthood class. About 75% of the info was beneficial. She provided a lot of good tactics and ideas for scheduling the first few weeks, how to deal with family, visitors, sleep issues, and plans of attack. Out of 15 couples 2 were expecting twins which was fun. Our next class isn't until Aug, so it was a nice peek into what is to come.
I sketched out the nursery yesterday with all the measurements and it looks like eveything is going to fit, so now we are just on the look out for sales or coupons since we are in no rush to place the order, they carry them in stock or they can be deliever in two weeks.
michellerenee thanks, I need to try to work things thru soon!
Belly button-Mine gets flatter and flatter, last time it was completely flat at the end, no indentation, no pop, just stretched completely, painfully flat. I am getting towards that, there's still a bit of a dent there though.
jenzen very scary indeed. I get my medical coverage thru my work, just forme, we're all covered seperately. Plus the bills work out to more per year than DH's gross salary :P Not including incidentals!
Bubeleh I thin the Mohels tend to be faster and more efficient, they do what they do on a daily basis and are trained thoroughly and apprenticed (IIRC) befor ethey can really go into "business" doing circs.
I have been looking for freelance and WAH opportunities for months now with no luck, hopefully that will change soon!
registry I have 2 complete registries. buybuybaby.com and babyuniverse.com just finished them off this past weekend :)
hospital tour is coming up on 6/24! :) anyone else goign to theirs or gone already? I am goign because I am having this one at a different hospital than I had my first at, so total new experience this time (hopefully a BETTER one too) :)
Registry - We had a registry started from Rebekah, so I had to update it to take off girl items and things that were discontinued. I actually went ot BRU today and registered for a few boy items, most of the things I have added on-line, except for things I wanted to see in person first. I think my registry is just about done now.
hospital tour - we won't be touring most likely, since I am going to deliver at the same hospital. I know I will have a private room for labor and than moved to delivery which will be a private room as well. I will be moved to the mommy & baby section after the baby is born. (When I had my daughter I asked to stay in the delivery room since I didn't have my daughter alive, and didn't want to deal with hearing others babies crying. They understood and let me stay as long as they were not busy that evening with more births. I was given the choice of going to Mommy section, stay where I was or go to another floor, but that would put me at risk for getting sick)
Belly Button - mine is flat. I have an innie, but I had gall bladder surgery so my belly button has sort of become a very flat innie, don't think I will be an outtie ever.
MichelleRenee- hope you guys get the house and can get things settled before Tristan comes along.
Me - went to a job interview today. It was a short interview because as soon as they said working on Sunday (was for a synagogue) I said I go to church in the morning until noon. The Rabbi and President were very nice though and thanked me for my time and sorry that it didn't work out. On the way to the interview an 18 wheeler next to me blew a tire and part of the rubber hit my windshield (didn't break it or anything, but scared me a bit) and I had to swerve to the left lane because the rim was rolling across the highway toward me. Than mapquest told me to turn right on the road I needed, so I had to call the synagogue and have them tell me where to go. Found out I needed to turn left off the road I had turned right onto. They said they get that all the time and would change mapquest if they could, but they can't.
Virtual Shower - like a normal shower, but you get a gift from someone from this thread. The max for a gift is $10-15. Deadline for your name to be added to the list is: July 31st
Due Date buddy - you or DH calls this person to let them know you are in labor and/or when you have the baby. Give the person all the stats: name, weight, height, time and the person will post for everyone in the group to see. You can leave a message if you don't get the person.
Please PM Oct06Moms if you want to join either the virtual shower or the Buddy list. Please include the state you live in for the shower (we are going to try and keep it a little close to each other to save on shipping costs for everyone involved.) After we get the names of everyone Michelle or I will send out a PM asking for your registry info and address so we can pass it to your gifter. When you send the PM, unless otherwise stated, we will assume you are saying yes to both.
Thanks.
Mommy2ml Just curious if you'd checked out having a nanny. *Might* be less expensive than day care for two.
Another friend of mine swears by au pairs -- foreign students who provide child care in exchange for room and board and a small allowance. You have to have an extra room, though, and be comfortable with someone else living in your house. She said she got used to it, but I am pretty sure I never could. So it's an individual thing.
About c-sections ... not so sure they are such a breeze. A friend of mine had one and said she was sore for months, and that she couldn't even pick up the baby the first few weeks. It's not just that it's surgery, it's considered major abdominal surgery. If you've got to have one, that's the way it goes, but probably not something you should choose unless you've read up on it a lot and are really sure it's for you.
Is anyone interested in a virtual shower (the gist of the shower is: you will be given the name, address and registry name of one of our memebers and once everyone that wants to participate has gotten a name. You buy a gift for the person you are assigned by the deadline and everyone that is participating opens the gift on a certain day and that is the only time the person knows who got them the gift)
Yes, that sounds like fun! Are we given a certain max$$ to spend?
And probably in my case, can I have someone that is closest to the North West, since sending a package from Canada (and to Canada) can take up to a month.
Also, is anyone interested in having a Due Date buddy (when you go into labor you call this person and after the baby arrives you let them know, so they let everyone else know here) Please let me know if you are interested so we can post the buddies on the new thread. Thanks.
There is a CC gal who is a RL friend of mine here who I'll get to post my info for me. Saves on long distance calls for me ;)
Ooh, fun moving to everyone who is looking at houses! I wish we *owned* our house instead of renting! But that's a ways off for us. Our landlord is getting on my nerves. . . getting to be a know-it-all about everything! Oy! (And their kids are TERRIFIED of dogs, so they run and scream. . . . and my dog chases them with a stick, thinking they are PLAYING! Go figure--a lab plays all the time! :rolleyes: )
Mommy2ml --That's too bad about your job situation. Could you and your husband make it through the fall and spring. . . . then maybe you could find work in the summer, when (cheaper) trustworthy HS or college kids would be available to babysit? Just a thought.
Belly Button--Not popped out yet. In fact, even in maternity clothes, I still look just "fatter" to the rest of the world, even though I feel HUGE!! The nurses and surgeon this weekend even commented on how "small" my baby-belly is. Which sort of bothers me, because I want to look more pregnant. . . but at the same time, I'm glad I'm not gaining in my stomach, since I carry all my extra weight there anyway.
Circumcision--Yes, we will be having it done.
Registry--Yes, at Target and Wal-Mart. Mostly the "bigger items" so our parents knew what we wanted, but we added some smaller things for the shower I'll be having in July.
Hospital Tour/Classes--Plan on doing that in August. Actually, good thing you ladies mentioned it, because I should send in our registration!!
Other than that, not much else is new. My SIL called me and told me we couldn't get pregnant right away again because it would interfere with her wedding plans. . . I told her not to worry because that is NOT in the plans!! Oy! (She wasn't being a brat or anything. . . but she has 2 other bridesmaids pregnant, so I can see where she's worried somewhat!!)
bellybutton - mine has moved off center to the right and is SO sensitive! I never got an outie w/ DD so I'm curious to see what happens this time.
mommy2ml - sorry about the job and day care situation! They are such tough choices to make.
registry - nope and probably won't. Since I just had a baby 2 years ago, I kind of feel like I'd be trolling for gifts. What I'd really like is a supply of dipes and wipes. If we knew the gender, maybe some boy clothes. But I really don't need anything else.
lawgirl - enjoy your 3D u/s!
michellerenee - any news on the house? We bought our house 5 :eek: years ago and it's just so nice to be settled.
hospital tour/classes - I'm just going to take a 1 day Lamaze refresher. I still need to schedule that.
nutter - sorry about your canceled appt! I go to a big practice so the on-call docs stay at the hospital and the office docs handle patients. Luckily, I've never had an appt canceled.
That's about it. I was supposed to be on a plane going to Paris tonight, but now I'm not going. My choice. DH would be working the whole time so I'd be by myself. I've also just been really strung out taking care of DD by myself since DH has been out of the country so much lately. I'm sure the other RO's can empathize how much work taking care of a toddler is. My parents are taking Claire for a few days so I can have a little R n' R. She hasn't even left yet and I miss her!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hospital Tour/Classes: we are signed up for a 4 week series in September that includes a hospital tour and prenatal classes.
Registry: my online stuff is done but I still need to go to the store and put a few more things on. It is through Target. I update it a couple times a week though. Like I had a sleep positioner on there, and my sister gave me hers, so I took it off. If someone recommends something different than what I have I might make changes as well.
No news on the house yet. I'm on pins and needles here! I think we both know that moving will not be fun... especially in the middle of the summer with me being 6 months pregnant. But it will feel really good to be there and to get settled. Plus my shower is scheduled for a month after we have to move by, so it is good to know that we will have a place for all the new stuff we get. If the shower was before the move we'd have to keep all that stuff at someone's house.
I'm guessing we will definitely hear from the realtor today. Unfortunately I won't have internet access most of the day so I won't be able to post updates until tonight.
Yesterday's appointment went fine. No weight gain. HB in the 140s range.
I have to make my GTT appointment at my family practitioner, but they gave me my bottle of glucola.
Next reg Doctor Appt: 7/11/06
And ... Next reg DR appt after that: 7/31/06
Hospital Tour/Classes THANKS FOR THE REMINDER! Need to register for those very quickly!!
Registries. I decided to do one at BRU, and one at Target. I don't know if I'll even be having a shower or not. But, at least I can keep track of what I know I definitely want. :)
Bellybutton: It's definitely getting stretched out, and flatter. But, no signs of popping out ... at least not yet. :)
TaterBaby
06-15-2006, 07:22 AM
bellybutton: Mine has also moved off center, a little to the right. It's still an innie, although more stretched out and larger than before.
registry: I've started one online at Target & Pottery Barn Kids, and will go into the stores to add more probably next month. One thing I found with my wedding registries was that many things were on clearance or gone by the time my showers came around and I only registered 3-4 months before the wedding. I'd like to avoid that problem this time.
hospital tour/classes: I have this on my list to ask about at my next OB appt.
midwesterngal, I didn't realize you have a lab! We have two, a 6 month old female and a 1.5 year old male. How do you think yours will do with the new baby? Ours are spoiled rotten so this is a great conern of mine.
Virtual Shower I woudl be interested!
Due Date buddy I might be interested as it gets closer... I know others on CC from elsewhere I might just shoot a quick IM or email, we'll see.
Jeant I would not want a Nanny. The apartment is too small to keep the kids in all day and there is not much in walking distance. Plus, I don't want to pull Mackie out of school the year before she starts prek, ykwim? I am a big time believer in social interaction and that would just be a big step backwards in that.
Feeling ok today. Worried about $$ and the job sitch... but not much I can do to change that right now though, so just trying to relax and get through work for now.
Going out with DH tomorrow night for dinner and a movie. Been a very very long time since we've gone out togetehr alone like this. Looking forward to it:)
belly button My belly button's at the flat stage, but it looks so weird, I think I'll prefer if/when it goes outie.
registries It looks like we won't get a chance to start our BRU registry until July, but we may do our online-only one beforehand.
hospital tour We toured our 2 local hospitals last spring to help me choose my OB since I needed a new one due to insurance reasons. Still need to sign up for classes.
I know that this question went around once before (in the first thread, maybe), but I need to pose it again ...
QOTD: What is everyone doing for swimwear this summer?! I do not like myself in ANYTHING!!! I'm looking for the "perfect solution". :rolleyes: ;) Did you decide to just buy a normal suit (maybe in larger size), or did you buy maternity? Where did you buy? What style did you buy, etc?
THANKS!
Just answering a few QOTDs:
registeries - I'm not doing one this time. Around here, you get one baby shower for the first baby and that's it (unless something unusual happens ... like twins).
hospital tour - I'm delivering at the same hospital, so we don't need to do this, either. However, I am stopping in there in a few weeks to check out some natural birthing videos. The lactation consultant was telling me that they're doing some new stuff even since I had Gabe ... something about the "kangaroo concept" and more skin-to-skin care. I'm pretty excited about that stuff.
swimsuits - Um, maybe I just won't go swimming. :) I'm hoping my tankini is doable for now, but I haven't tried it on yet. My parents just bought an above-ground-pool, so no one will see me except them.
QC - How'd your ultrasound go?
Glucose test is this afternoon. I've got orange, sugary stuff cooling in the work fridge. Blech.
qotd I have a Maternity Tankini from Motherhood. It's nice, tie dyed, the bottom can be over or under belly (draw-string on each side to adjust it) and it's a halter top style. Got a built in bra support too with optional/removable pads in the cups for added support.
I already wore it to he beach once and I like it.:)
and I actually like the "pregnant in a bikini look," so it works for me!
QOTD I have, um, 4 maternity suits. oops. DS is in swim lessons, and we have also been going to the pool 3-5 time a week lately!
One black tankini top from landsend.com (Great deal-I just ordered it last week), that I paired with some regular bikini bottoms.
I have 2 from Old Navy. One is from 2 years ago. Great Prices. I found out the hard way that my fave is to low cut for swim lessons with DS, (after he stuck his foot in the neckline & I almost flashed the whole class!)but I love how it fits.
I also got a really cute one from sears for $15!!!!! We were buying a vaccum cleaner a few weeks ago, and the maternity section was right there. I didn't even know they had a maternity section!
ETA-these are all tankini styles.
I just caught up with the last few days.
Midwesterngal: Glad all is OK!
Mommy2ml: I'm sorry your work situation isn't going to work. Daycare is just so expensive! Socialization is really important to us also, and the main reason why we haven't gone the nanny route.
Circumcision: Definitely a lot to think about here. DH & I did quite a bit of research on this, and ultimately had DS circ'ed. My OB did it in the hospital. DH was with him the entire time, and he never cried. We have always pulled back his skin when giving him his bath(for 2 years now), and he has not had any re-attachment. My BF friend had her twins prematurely the day before me, and though Jewish, they had to wait quite a while to circ the boy until the mohel deemed him strong enough.
Belly button: Stretched, but I doubt it will pop out.
Mommy2ml
She-re thanks. d/c is a killer when it comes to $$! Also, re: the Mehel waiting to circ your friend's son - they will not do it until they are over a certain weight and in excellent health. It is a mandate in the faith to do it, but first and foremost is the safety and well-being of the baby :) So it is important to the Mohel to wait as long as necessary to be sure all is well before performing the Brit.
Registries, haven't done any yet.
Bellybutton, its been getting shallower and shallower, but still an innie. Some days it gets sore though.
Hospital tour/Classes, I don't need to do a tour ;) and haven't thought about classes yet. I suppose it could be a nice thing for dh and I to do together. Next time I'm at work (if I can manage to get a shift without being low censused!) I'll probably ask about it.
Bathing suits, last summer I found the perfect bikini and wore it when we went to Cancun. I'd wear it again this summer, but I've way outgrown the top :rolleyes: So a couple of days ago I ordered a new one with a bigger top (hopefully its big enough 'cause there was only one more size up to go!). I'll stick with a regular bikini so long as I don't have stretchmarks. But I still don't know if I'll even have the opportunity to wear it yet.
Tater--Cassie is a 2 year old lab mix. She is also very spoiled. We're not quite sure how it will work out with the baby. From bringing her home, DH has pullled her tail (gently!) and done things like "steal" her food, so that she would be okay if kids did that. However, we have 0 friends with kids, except our landlord. . . so she doesn't really know what to think of them. We're working on it (walking her around a baseball park during Little League games, etc), and she has been through obedience. Large crowds and strangers do bother her though. Luckily for us, if things do not work out, my parents live on a farm and will take her if she doesn't adjust well. I would absolutely bawl my eyes out if we had to go that route. . . . but at least I know where she is and that she'll be just as spoiled! ;) Labs stay in a "puppy" stage for almost 3 years, so hopefully she calms down soon!
QOTD Swimwear: I'm having horrible luck finding a suit. Seems like everything in maternity wear is a halter tankini. Well, with my recent chest growth, um, halters barely cover those suckers! LOL. I think I may end up buying something in a plus size regular tank that's on super-sale and call it good.
swimwear I was just about to post about this! I tried for the longest time to find a one-piece maternity swimsuit. (Because if you swim laps or actually just plain *swim* in your suit, a tankini doesn't work -- the water goes under the top part and the drag is tremendous). I finally found one, bought it, and have loved it. I can swim comfortably in it and it has room for more belly when I will need it. Here is the page (which also has other choices, and other maternity clothes too elsewhere):
http://www.becomingmommy.com/maternity-clothes/Swimwear/Maternity
The one I got was from a brand called Ripe. The tag says it was made in Australia -- not a "made in" tag you see very often. But it makes sense, because the Australians are serious about their swimming. I'm sure the importing added to the price, but it actually wasn't much more than I normally spend on a lap suit.
I highly recommend this store -- they shipped the suit super-fast and the owner even included a personal note (I had called in my order because I had questions). They were great.
circumcision This was actually one of the reasons I am glad we are having a girl. Even before we got married, my DH and I disagreed on this. I don't like the idea, but he thinks a boy would be teased in the locker room. (Not sure that is true anymore now that the stats are almost 50/50 ... but he felt strongly about it.) I guess I just think it's important to learn about it before you decide -- whatever you decide. Maybe it's because I'm a social scientist, but it bothers me when the reason for decisions is "just because everyone else does it." (I know there are reasons to circumcise that are valid and practical, but I bet a lot of people do it "just because.")
Anyway, there was an interesting news story about circumcision on CNN.com today:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/15/circumcision.feud.ap/index.html
Jenzen01
06-15-2006, 11:11 AM
All right, I read the CNN story, and I would prefer to stay away from debate on this thread because I enjoy the casual, social atmosphere so I don't want to comment too much ...
However, I just wanted to say that is one complicated, messed up story. I think it just shows how many complex elements there are to the issue ... in actually, I think the root of that couple's problem is something larger than whether or not to circumsize their son.
By the way, I found it conflicting that the lawyer called it an "odd American tradition" and then later in the article, circumcision was cited as a "thousands of years old Jewish tradition."
OK, I'm done. :)
Maternity Swimsuit - I live in Seattle, nuff said! :) I'm not going to worry about it this year because I really don't have access to a pool nor do I go to the beach. The only time I need a swimsuit is in Hawaii and since I'm not going this year, I think I'll be okay. Although I have to admit, some of the suits you guys have posted are cute!
jenzen Just wanted to agree, both on not wanting a full scale debate and on the article itself being quite inconsistent and poorly thought out. and the idea that the son is ASKING for his mother to help him do something about his issues and the father does not want her to just gives me the creeps :P
The bathing suit I will use if I ever hit a pool this year is this one: http://www.kohls.com.edgesuite.net/is/image/kohls/138924?wid=400&hei=400&op_sharpen=1
I bought it from Kohls last year, it was for a trip to Chicago after I had Rebekah. Since I lost weight since that trip and even in this pregnancy, it should fit me pretty well still.
CNN Story - That story is messed up. The boy wants help because he is apparently tired of having inflammation (couldn't even imagine the pain he is dealing with) and he should be allowed to have the surgery. He is stating his discomfort with this issue and wants help.
From the AAP site: http://www.aap.org/pubed/ZZZJZMEMH4C.htm?&sub_cat=1 (more pros than cons listed by scientific studies.) http://www.aap.org/pubed/ZZZ13FOPIUC.htm?&sub_cat=1
Circumcision has been a long standing debate, that will not end anytime soon, but it's still a personal decision of whether it is done or not. Everyone has different reasons for wanting their child to have it done.
For us we will have it done because we feel it will be healthier for our son and will keep him from having irritations like the boy in that Cnn story is having. I remember what it was like for the boy I use to nanny and don't want to put my son through that.
Registries: Don't think that I'll do one, as this is DD#2
Bellybutton: Popped...at like 10 weeks! :eek: I have a hernia that I've had since I was a kid that is right above my belly button that seems to have gotten bigger since DD was born. I think that's probably why. I DO NOT recommend putting a bandaid over your button if you're popped though...I've learned this lesson the hard way-twice. BOth times I've tried it, I've ended up with nasty, itchy red marks from the bandaid. I think that it's because it's being put on skin that's already stretched.
Hospital tour/Classes: I'll probably tour our two hospital options after we move and take a breastfeeding refresher class. I really didn't get much out of the birthing class that we took last time, so I think I'll skip it.
Bathing suits: I got this one from Motherhood and I really like it. It was $20 in the store when I got it, but it's 30 now on the website :confused:
http://www.motherhood.com/Images/Products/1236.jpg
Circumsision: So glad that we are having another girl so that DH and I don't have to fight this one out. The issue for us isn't whether or not to do it. We're Jewish, so we both agree that it should be done. The issue is, who does it. I would go for a traditional bris with a moyel...DH would want a surgeon to do it in a doctors office (DH is a doctor, so he's VERY opposed to a non-medical person performing the procedure)
just reaffirming my support for jenzen's and mommy2ml's comments re: the circumcision story just posted. that poor child.
Ditto. It's sad the child has to suffer.
I'll tell you the truth, I must have been completely naive to the circumcision debate. I had no CLUE it was this much of an issue. I really had never even considered not having it done if we had a boy. We'll still get it done, though I think the pros and cons are interesting.
swimsuit - Not this year as far as I know. I think I might opt out of the pool scene this year. Though that might change once it's a little bit hotter here in PA! We have an inground pool but it needs re-lined so we're not opening it up this year. We have too much else going on.
I'll check back in tomorrow :)
bellybutton mine's still an innie. I didn't have an outie with DD, so hopefully it'll stay in.
Swimsuits I am not getting one. We aren't planning our usual Charleston beach vacation this year, and DD just swims in a wading pool, so no real need.
I get to do a 24-hour urine collection! Anyone else ever had to do one? It's kind-of a pain. My OB ordered it when I told him my BP was up. As long as the urine turns out normal, he's not worried at the level it's at right now, I'm supposed to rest "as much as possible". DH has been so awesome--he cleaned the house this week (we usually have a housecleaner but she's on vacation) and keeps telling me to go lay down.
Still no word from our realtor. I am getting so antsy. I know she probably didn't get our offer officially submitted until last night, or maybe even this morning and that she is very busy. Mike left her a message, but I am sure that if she had any info she would call us. Oh, the suspense!
I did have a good day as far as work goes. My boss offered to not include my overtime hours on my paychecks (I get about 3-4 hours OT/week) and "save" them for me. Then while on maternity leave I will still get my bi-weekly paycheck. (it should actually only add up to about 3/4 of my normal paycheck, but that's better than nothing!) So this way we can still save some money but the pressure is off to save so much.
That's about it. I am finally starting to feel a pattern to Tristan's movement and kicking. I also feel huge.
Bathingsuit - well, if it ever stops raining and we actually get some nice weather, I would love to actually try out this pool we have in our new house! :p
I tried on a tankini i bought for my honeymoon last year and it still kind of fits, a little short, but who cares!
No plans to actually buy a maternity suit unless I find soemthing cheap at Old Navy!
Morning,
Its been busy in here...lots of questions and discussion. I'll try to catch up.
QOTDs - Bathing suit -I ended up getting a fairly expensive tankini ($90 :eek: ) at an upscale boutique. I really tried to find a less expensive suit, but I had such trouble. None of them had enough support on top (chest). I'm not HUGE on top, but I didn't want to feel like I was going to pop out of the suit at any moment. We are vacationing in Mrytle Beach later this summer, so my DH insisted that I have one (even if it was expensive).
Belly button- its kind of flat and streched. My SIL said her's did that during her last pregnancy, but never popped, so we'll see what happens.
Registry - We just finished at Babies R Us (well almost finished, still need to at some items). We will hopefully find time to register at Pottery Barn Kids for a few things this weekend.
Classes - We signed up for a childbrith prep class and breastfeeding class. But they aren't until Aug/Sept time.
Circumcision I would say I'm undecided, DH is very much decided to do this. Hopefully we will have a girl and avoid the issue completely. Otherwise, we both need to really look at both sides of the issue and make the most informed decision we can.
Its funny we are also buying a house. Its actually a new construction townhouse. I won't be ready until Sept/Oct, so I'm actually a little envious of those moving this summer. I just hope that we are in the house before the baby arrives!!!
MichelleRenee That's cool about O/T time, what a nice arrangement your boss is working out with you. Hope you hear from the realtor soon!!
Bubeleh Wow can't believe you are taking classes are ready. My hospital wanted me to be so many weeks. I wish I can take it now and have something else completed.
Appointment update:
Everything was normal. Took the glucose test, and I'll get the results back today.
Weight: Gained another 4 pounds. I'm up 18. :eek: I really don't want to gain more than 35, which is what I put on with Gabe.
Heartrate: In the 150s this time. She kicked the dr., and it went up to about 160.
Due date change: Dr. is now putting me at Oct. 16 because my ultrasound showed me at Oct. 8, so he re-wheeled my LMP and came up with the 16th, which is a little closer to what the ultrasound said. I'm sure of my LMP, so we're going to keep it there.
Next appointment: July 18
Oh, and we talked a little bit about Gabe's heart problem. He has an atrial septal defect, which is a little hole between the atriums. We've been told that if you have to have something wrong with the heart, this is it. He's being monitored, and it won't be closed unless there's a problem with pressure between the chambers. Anyway, I was concerned that this baby could have something similiar, but the dr. really thinks Gabe's case is isolated because he has no other health issues. Plus, you can't really find this heart problem in utero because all babies have the hole ... it just usually closes after birth and Gabe's never did.
So, a good appointment in all.
quick update...
Foudn out the cost involved if I go back to work and send Logan to our d/c. Also foudn out they will be willing to work with our cloth dipes as lng as we provide anything needed for it - like a sealable wet bag for the soiled ones to go home in and any "training" necessary for the dipes we chose. So that's a load of my mind there! :)
We do still have to sit down and work out our expenses. But I suck at that so I am procrastinating.
I thought I had more to say but some @ss 2 cubes over is letting a phone ring 20+ times on speakerphone and just started a convo still on said speakerphone... between that and the banging and construction going on in the floor below our office and I am not thining straight right now! :P
Sorry to open a can of worms and run... Wednesday afternoon saw a "You know that project you've sort of been working on lately... We need it by Friday!" dropped in my lap. But we're nearly there. Fingers crossed.
I'm feeling compelled to point out just two things: first, I can't help but suspect that that poor kid featured in the circumcision news story didn't get the memo from Colin Farrell (http://www.circumstitions.com/Famous5-farrell.html) (swoon). Second, presentation of information about a thing and even arguments against a thing should not be construed as designed to make people who choose to do or not do a thing feel guilty. If I were to post information about the benefits of breastfeeding, it wouldn't be because I was seeking to make non-breastfeeders feel guilty. If someone posted a study showing that homebirth can be dangerous, I wouldn't perceive that as designed to make me feel guilty. We're mature adults here. I hope we can present & discuss facts without people feeling like personal attacks or guilt trips are flying around.
So.
We had the "big ultrasound" on Wednesday. And it appears that we are having
A BABY!!!
A baby with, to quote the sonographer, "really long feet."
Little (or relatively big) baby feet:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/quartercentury/October%202006%20Pumpkin/bigfeetcrop.jpg
The baby also likes to make scary faces:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/quartercentury/October%202006%20Pumpkin/thescreamcrop.jpg
Here is a normal u/s shot (a hand below the chin and a foot that's out of focus up on the right):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/quartercentury/October%202006%20Pumpkin/profilecrop.jpg
(Can this one be on the first page, please?)
We had decided at the last minute to ask the sonographer to write down whether the baby was a boy or a girl and seal the info in an envelope to be later opened or destroyed. But they aren't allowed to write it down! People have sued them for getting it wrong. Sheesh. So we're sticking to the Green Team.
On bathing suits: I have a Speedo tank suit for laps and a tankini from Old Navy for the beach. I am also not opposed to wearing a regular bikini with a low-rise bottom, as long as I can find one that's not too scandalous (I had to retire my regular tank suit because it was starting to gape in an inappropriate way at the leg openings.).
On belly buttons: Mine was always pretty flat, but now it's even flatter. And feeling very stretched out.
On registries: Not done in the UK (not unlike some other things that have come up recently that I could think of...). We have been asked by family what kinds of things we'd like, and are providing some direction. But even if we wanted to set up a registry, it'd be way too much of a hassle with us living here and most of the family and friends in the US.
And I had an appointment with my midwife this morning. Everything looks good! Next appointments are July 7th and August 4th.
QC - First - Congrats! On a healthy Baby! :)
I had to laugh - the Colin Farrel thing, hilarious LOL.
I do have to make note though, that when you have a toddler that wants to do everything for themselves, you can strike off doing everything your way as something that is a daily practice. It's picking and choosing your battles. There are some things you can get them to do or let you do for them, but there are many times they will just not let you at their privates once they are PT'd. Unless their Daddy is un-circed and shows them their own cleaning ritual daily, it's highly unlikely that any successful teaching of those daily hygene practices involving foreskin will actually be practiced much if ever by a child.
If your son came to you at 8 or 10 years old and begged to make a decision about circumcision for himself, would you respect his choice at that point? That is what bothered me about that other article, the child's desires and preferences were being ignored and it became a battle for the courts and parents to decide.
I'm not bothered by a little info sharing. I know my decision and why. For those undecided, getting reliable and neutral information about pros and cons can be very valuable and very important :)
Though I'm hopelessly behind, Congrats to Jenniferlynne, Slvspring, Bunnybeth, Erickaand QC on the big u/s results. :)
I've been fighting my second wave of morning sickness lately. This phase is topped off with frequent migraines, just for fun. It was pretty easy to stay upbeat with the first tri sickness, but this round is a bit tougher to take. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that maybe the third tri will be the charm for me. How's that for optimism?
Swimming suits:
I bought this one from the gap for swimming laps : It is okay, but not great.
I'd really like a cute tankini for fun since my son and I am doing lots of hanging out at the pool this summer. I need a longer one because I'm long waisted and have from stretch marks from my last pregnancy. I dont mind a few flashes here and there, but I'd rather not leave the house with them on full-time display. Any of you with tankinis think they are on the longish side?
Maplekitty - I read that you are being checked again for a possible placenta previa. I found out at my level 2 that I have a complete previa also. I am going back to be checked in a month (just shy of 30 weeks) to see if it is moving up. But, the doctor told me to plan on a c/s. Even if it is close, it makes me a poor candidate for a vbac, which I really was hoping for. I had a very easy recovery from my first section, so I really dont fear it, but having another is not my first choice. I hope you get some good news at your recheck. If not, I'd be happy to answer any c/s questions you, or anyone else, might have.
Hope everyone is doing well! Take care! :D
Congrats, QuarterCentury, on your healthy baby! I'm still kind of annoyed that our tech slipped b/c now "kind of" knowing is driving me crazy!
Belly Button: still an innie but moving towards outie at a rapid rate!
Registry: Since this is our second baby I won't be having a shower or really registering. Just for my own benefit (and in case my family asks what we want), I did a small registry at Babies R Us, mostly to help me keep track of what we'll need to buy. I probably won't even tell most people about it. There are a few new things I want that we didn't get last time. I also got rid of any baby equipment that I didn't like so we'll need replacements for those, plus our pack n'play broke. Since baby and DS will have to share a room, the little one will probably be sleeping in a PNP in the playroom till she (or he) sleeps through the night. Unless, that is, I can convince DH to cosleep longer than three months!
Circumcision: This is one reason I'm so happy we are (or might be) having a girl. We circ'ed DS and I really regret it. At the time we decided to do it because DH is circ'ed and we thought it might be strange for DS to be different than his daddy and from "most" other boys. In retrospect, I don't feel that way anymore. We know tons of people who have not circumcised their sons. I wish I'd thought it through a bit more carefully last time. If this baby is a boy, I'd be leaning toward circumcision because it would be strange to have two boys, one circ'ed and one not. But is that a good enough reason to circumcise? I don't know... If anything, I think it would be awkward to explain to DS #1 that we circumcised him for reasons we no longer think are valid. That would be terrible! Also, I watched the circumcision, thinking that if I was going to put my baby through that, I should at least have the courage to watch it and be with him. They used numbing cream and DS didn't cry a bit, but I sobbed hysterically throughout the procedure and for about an hour afterwards (yes, I was a bit hormonal). He healed perfectly and really didn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort but I still regret doing it, maybe because we did it for reasons that, to me, don't seem valid anymore. If you do it for reasons that seem important to you, then I doubt you'll regret it. But do spend some time thinking about it.
QC - Congrats on a healthy baby!
Just found out I passed my glucose test this time around! Yippee! No 3-hour for me. However, I'm a bit anemic, which would explain some of the tiredness. The nurse just recommended increasing iron in my diet and making sure I'm taking my vitamins. Mmmmmm .... more spinach, please.
MichelleRenee Oh, the suspense, hope you hear something soon!
Mrs-Mac Moving that late would drive me crazy to not be able to set up the nursery. But, at least you'll have a great excuse to do as little as possible during the move itself.
Pamela You're really starting to round out now. :)
QC Love the u/s pics. I was wondering if you'd hold out in the green team, I'm proud of your restraint!
Jenzen Congrats on passing the glucose test, I'm sure it's good to have that over with.
maplekitty Love the baby belly. :)
swimwear In the end, I just got a one-piece maternity tank from Land's End overstocks. It's my goal to start swimming laps for exercise. And, I really have no excuse now that the community pool's been open since Memorial Day.
circumcision article Just wanted to point out the father's lawyer called it a "a bizarre American custom" while the article author cited "Jews have been circumcising their sons for thousands of years." So, it wasn't poorly written, with the author conflicting himself. I agree that this case is about more than just circumcision.
----
Pretty much the same old, same old around here. But, last night DH saw my belly bump up with the baby's kick, which was pretty fun. I wasn't looking down at the time but I sure did feel it!
This weekend, we're going to finish up the basement floor, and then we can move stuff down from the spare room and start organizing it so it can be the nursery.
bathing suits - my mom got me a cute tankini from Motherhood maternity.
qc - yeah for a good u/s!
pamela. mommy2ml, and maplekitty - nice belly shots!
michellerenee - any news on the house yet?
Mrs-Mac - oohhhhh, a brand new place! Very exciting! Too bad it won't be ready until Spet/Oct.
jenzen - yeah for passing the GTT!
Sua - sorry about the migraines/repeat morning sickness!
I'm so excited - I just won a Little Tykes gym for Claire on eBay! It will be nice to have something for her to play on this fall when I'm less inclined to take her and #2 to the park. I have to go pick it up, but it's only about 40 mins away. I also bought a new sewing machine yesterday so that's my new 'toy' :D . I won't have it until July, but it's something to look forward to.
You ladies will have to humer me a bit - Claire is 21 months :eek: old today and is such a ham! I have to post some pics:
Mrs. Mac: Congrats on the new construction, I love new places - but they are at too much of a premium in the LA area. On the early class, the only reason we took it now is because its only offered 2x before our due date and the other time is during our birthing classes. Otherwise they would have all been in Aug/Sept like normal. There was a couple in there with a Nov and lots of Sept due dates so I felt a little better.
QC Great U/S, also vrey proud of the restraint not to find out. You are a stronger woman than I!
Registry We have started ours but are not telling any one quite yet. Right now I am using it as a check list. As I research things and find what I want I add it, even if we are just going to purchase it ourself.
MapleKitty Cute baby belly!
Marathongirl Cute pictures! DD is 26 months, know exactly what you mean about being such a ham :)
Swimwear Tried on one of my bikinis w/ skirt bottom and it seems that will work for our beach trip next month. I'd love to get a tankini, but I don't like regular bikini bottoms and I can't find any tankini's with either a short or skirt bottom :confused: Any ideas where I could find one?
Had my regular appt. this morning. Everything looks great, I had a whole workup b/c of all the BH I've been having they wanted to make sure I did not have a UTI or other infection and that my cervix had not shortened. Everything looked great, but I do have a slight infection which I have to use cream for tonight. At least it's only a one night course :rolleyes:
I am looking forward to tonight more than I think I realized.. i think the last time we went out just the 2 of us was our anniversary last August! LOL We're going to dinner, then a 7:15 movie, so we should be home before 10, but still, my mom will be getting Mackie to bed, not me! LOL Although I feel bad... with her allergies, spraying the "monster spray" is likely to make her feel quite sick :P I think she'll do it anyway for her granddaughter though LOL I am interested to find out if my mom can get her to go to sleep faster/sooner than we can... it's Friday though, so not the end of the world if she is up later I suppose :)
Real quick post here. I am 21 weeks today and I feel pretty good. When I stand up I just feel so much "outward" pressure around my belly. It is supposed to be really hot here this weekend, so I am gearing up with lots of water and plans to stay indoors. My birthday is Sunday and Mike wanted to celebrate at a local lake, but I think I would be miserable in the heat.
No real news on the house yet. I talked to our realtor today and it turns out the sellers were out of town for a couple days. They are just sitting down with their realtor tonight to look at the offer, so at least we know they haven't seen it already. That means we still have a chance of getting an immediate "yes." But it also means we could still be waiting through the weekend and that just kills me! I want my house, damn it!!!
Gotta run.... so much to do!
marathongirl- Claire is adorable! What cute photos!
QC- Congrats on your ultrasound! And what great patience you have for being able to wait until delivery! I thought about it.... but just couldn't do it!
lawgirl-how did your 3D ultrasound go?
Registry- We registered at BRU last weekend. We decided to buy most "major" items ourselves and so have registered for smaller but still necessary items. A friend of mine told me at dinner last week that she wants to have a shower for me in September. I didn't think I would have one and now feel so excited I will. yay! :)
Bathing suits- Haven't ventured there yet.... Although I probably should because it has been SO HOT here! 100 degrees! Thanks for all the suggestions you guys have been making.
We are going on a mini-vacation (2 day) to Catalina Island this weekend. Taking off Monday too, which will be nice.... work has been so stressful. I can't wait. Have a great weekend ladies!
QOTD: Halloween costumes: Is anyone planning one for their new arrivals? I started thinking about this the other day. Just curious. I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything other than just a themed sleeper outfit, but I was curious what other October moms were planning
MichelleRenee
Since I am due a few days before Halloween Mike is counting on me still being pregnant on Halloween so he can dress ME up. He wants to attach some creepy thing to my belly to make it look like it is climbing out of me. Ew. Should Tristan arrive before Halloween I'll probbaly just put him in something orange ar maybe a Halloween sleeper if I find one.
Emermel - I've started my search for a costume too. I hope I can find one on Ebay or somewhere before the prices get crazy. I think I am going to buy or make a dalmation bunting and cap for the baby (Maybe I can start with a white or ivory sleep sack). My 2yo is going to be a firefighter.
SlvSpring - Have a fun get-away!
MichelleRenee - That is just cruel that you are stuck waiting for an answer! Fingers crossed for you.
Jeant - The Gap tank suit is maternity. I saw they had some new w/ tags listed on Ebay. I am considered getting another one myself because it runs a bit large. I'm showing quite a bit too, so maybe consider going down a size if you decide to get one.
marathongirl - Claire is adorable!! btw, I just love the baby nickname "K2", I chuckle whenever you write it. :)
Mommy2ml - Thanks, I'll have to check out the selection at Motherhood for a suit. The one you posted is cute!
Jenniferlynne - The price is good on the ON tankinis, I think I'll give one a try. I can always tuck it in and look like a dork if I am flashing too much of my belly. :p
We took our son golfing last night and I'd forgotten how being pregnant was good for my game! It is like the lower center of gravity makes me feel more solid or something. Plus, while pg, I'm not tempted to overswing and I keep a nice even tempo. I'll def. be out playing more!!
MichelleRenee - hope you hear good news about the house soon!
Halloween costumes - we have a cat costume from when Claire was a newborn. It looks like sweatpants and a sweatshirt with little 'Baby's 1st Halloween' socks. We'll just use them again for K2 :) .
Thanks for all the Claire compliments! I think she's kinda cute too, but I suppose I'm pretty biased ;) .
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Just back from a BRU registry trip. Still confused about some things, but overall it's getting there.
Here is my big question that I can't find the answer to anywhere ... so I am counting on all of you! What brands (if any) of bottles can you put in the dishwasher?
None of the boxes said anything about that, and the prominent display of bottle brushes did not inspire confidence. I can't even bring myself to wash my own dishes by hand, so I am guessing I will have no patience for washing bottles while wrestling with a newborn.
Ericka_Jarett
06-17-2006, 07:05 PM
My friend put all her bottles in the dishwasher (Gerber, Evenflo, Playtex and such) As long as you put them on the top rack away from the heating element they should be fine. They sell dishwasher baskets for bottle accessories. Just like anything plastic you put in, most likely over time you will have to replace the bottles as they wear.
FAQ site about bottles: Q: What is the best way to clean a bottle?
A: Most manufacturers recommend that bottles be washed by hand in warm soapy water. The same method should be used for washing the nipples as well. Some types of bottles are also dishwasher safe, but you should check the manufacturer’s instructions to be sure.
Gerber site: Are nipples or pacifiers dishwasher safe?
Both are top-rack dishwasher safe; however, the extended heat cycle and the chemicals in the dishwasher detergent will result in breakdown of the rubber and may shorten the life of the product.
marathongirl
06-18-2006, 03:37 AM
jeant - I didn't have a problem putting bottles and stuff on the top rack of the dishwasher. But you may end up replacing things more frequently since the dishwasher is a little more harsh.
jeant - my speedo suit is maternity. I bought it off eBay, but browsing through their website, there's no mention of maternity suits. Hmmm.
Halloween costume? Um, no. I am a) not counting on the baby being born by then, and/or b) probably going to have other things to be worrying about than dressing up a few-days-old baby. But, my sister will be staying with us then, so if she wants to be in charge of the costume business, she'll be more than welcome! Seems like a good auntie project to me.
Well, yesterday marked 24 WEEKS for me! It's pretty exciting and, in some ways, I can't believe I'm at this point already! In other ways I feel like it's taking forever. :rolleyes:
I was going to begin my painting this weekend. However, it is HOT! I can hardly walk to the kitchen without breaking out in a sweat. I decided to wait and see if it cooled down a bit over the week. If not, I guess I'll just have to live with painting in the heat. Yuck! I would turn the a/c on but I have to have the room well ventilated so I still have to have the windows open. I should have done this before June....haha.
Costume - Well, I know T.J. will be born before Halloween but I'm just going to put him in a themed onesie. I'm not a huge Halloween-fan anyway so it's not a big deal to get dressed up. We'll have enough to deal with with the other 2.
Bottles - I put all of my bottles in the dishwasher. I do hand-wash the nipples though. They deteriorate really fast for me if I put them in the dishwasher. I had a scare with DD#2 recently. I gave her a bottle (which I looked over before I gave to her). 5 minutes later I see her covered in milk from the bottle and her chewing on something. The nipple had fallen apart in her mouth! Luckily I got everything out of her mouth but I decided at that point to hand wash all nipples and to replace then VERY frequently. It's worth the $10 every month or two.
Not much to report with me. I'm feeling pretty good but tired. I definitely had a growth spurt so I'm trying to get used to the bigger, more OBVIOUS belly.
Here's a quick belly shot I got last week (23 weeks). I was just done cleaning so excuse the outfit. Please use this as my pic - thanks!
costume Haven't decided yet. I'd like to do a theme for both of them. I have seen people do "the princess and the pea", which might work, they make pea-pod buntings for babies.
bottles I used Avent bottles and nipples and put them all in the dishwasher without any problem. Those little baskets to put small parts in are great--I put all my breast pump pieces in there, too, and washed them.
Threadmistress, my age needs to be changed to 33 now. :(
Morning gals,
We just got back from a wekend trip over to the island and it was very nice. Robyn has been SO ACTIVE, and lol, we found out that she loves Eminem - she went crazy when "Slim Shady" came on the radio, hahaha. And also Curt's bagpipe music, but that's a given because it's in the blood ;).
QOTD - costume: We are huge, HUGE, Halloween people and attend a big costume party each year. We'll probably only be making an appearance this year, but we;ve already discussed possible costume ideas, LOL. I loved those bunting-bag costumes from last year (they had chili peppers, carrots, sweet peas, corn, etc). So we're going to dress up in Mexican garb, and Robyn will be our little chilli pepper, heehee.
threadmistress, I plan on posting a baby picture in the next thread
