Where can I go on my HM in October that is not in the hurricane zone, not Hawaii or Polynesian Islands and not Spring Breaky Mexican cities?

Octoberfest!
Seriously though, are you looking for tropical but not hurricane zone, or are you up for anything?

Sometimes it's still very warm in Southern Cali.

Spain or Greece? I'm not sure how hot it is, but a girlfriend went to spain in November for her honeymoon and loved it. They didn't exclusivley do beaches, but I think it was nice enough weather.

Ok, I'm a spaz  I didn't look at your title.
I'd definitely suggest checking out parts of So Cal, also, here's an article from about.com that might be helpful :)

I think hurricane season does not officially start until November, so you might be safe in Florida or the Carribean. Have you thought about Bermuda? It's really lovely there. It might not be super warm in October -- it's parallel with the Carolinas, so not that far south -- but you could check it out.

Actually, hurricane season is in full force. Hurricane Katrina hit in August.
ETA: Have you thought of a cruise? Even if there is a hurricane, they reroute the ship.

The hurricane season ends in November, not starts. You would not be safe in Florida or the Carribean. Katrina hit in August and Rita was in October.

Brazil. It's spring, almost summer there. Northern Brazil has some of the best beaches in the world supposedly. You could mix it with an extension to the amazon for diversity.

The ABC islands - Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, are out of the hurricane zone (they are very south). Aruba has extremely consistent temperatures year round so it would definitely be beach-y there. There isn't a ton to do in Aruba besides a lot of beach time but they do have some great restaurants and it's very tourist firendly. I would hit Curacao if you are into snorkeling/diving, otherwise I wouldn't go there. I don't know anything about Bonaire.
I would not hit Bermuda or the rest of the Caribbean during that time unless you bought hurricane insurance and got an amazing deal on your vacation. The risk wouldn't be worth it to me otherwise.
What about the Riviera Maya - 45 south of Cancun and not spring break-y at all. They have some all-adult resorts.
What about Costa Rica? I think it would be warm enough there for beaches in November but you migth want to check into that further.

I would suggest Greece or southern Italy.

I dunno... I've got friends from Greece and they all say that October is so-so. It depends on the year (good tourism year or not) but the islands start becoming abandoned around that time of year. They said temps are nice but you may not be able to swim.

I would third Southern California--it's usually gorgeous here in October. And, you could combine with a couple days in Las Vegas!
Also, how about Sedona, Arizona? No beaches but very romantic.

What is your budget? What kind of vacationer are you? How far are you willing to travel? What length are you planning for?

Thailand has amazing beaches. The entire east side which borders the Gulf of Thailand was completely unaffected by the tsunami. Koh Samui is very romantic, and the accommodations and food are very reasonably priced. The people are really friendly, too.

Most southern Caribbean islands do not have hurricanes. You may want to try somewhere like Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent perhaps Barbados or Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao.

Read the OP again. You are open to Mexican cities that are not "Spring Breaky"?
Have you checked into Zihuatanejo? It on the west coast, south of Ixtapa. It has a quiet, old Mexico feel to it. No high rise hotels, etc: http://www.advantagemexico.com/ixtapa/index.html
Manzanillo, also west coast, is smaller, quiet fishing village near Ixtapa: http://www.advantagemexico.com/manzanillo/index.html

I always travel during Sept/Oct - and my HM was then. DH and I went to Madeira on HM, near the Azore Islands off the coasts of Portugal and Africa. It's not balmy, but the weather was mild and pleasant.
Also, how about the Mediterranean? I've been to So. of France and Ibiza, Spain around then. The weather was great. Would suggest Majorca instead of Ibiza - but the area is great - beaches are nice, etc.
