Hi, ladies! Welcome to our new thread!
Now that Shutterfly is no longer working, we have a bunch of red X's where pictures used to be on the first page. Would everyone check to see if their baby's photo is now a red X, and if it is, then would you mind posting the photo (or a new one) from another site?
Also, please remember to put anything you want the mods to see in red, so it will be easier for us to find and post updates.
Finally, please include how many weeks and days old your baby is in your first or largest post of the day, so other members will know your baby's age when we're discussing various topics.
Thanks! This thread is now open!

Yay for a new thread!
Only have a few moments before Sophie wakes up but I had to post a quick question. I was wondering what type of carrier people use and like the best. I have the Baby Bjorn and it is really comfy but I find it too difficult to BF with it on and (this is so vain to say) I find that it makes my hips look huge since we use the sport model with the major back support. I was looking into getting a ring sling but just wanted some feedback.

Orion: Wish I could help, but we don't have a carrier.
Question: When did you or are you going to start referring to your baby's age in months rather than weeks? I think it sounds funny saying Nathan is 15 weeks old, but I keep doing it. It's hard to give up counting by weeks when I've done that since he was born and while I was pregnant.
Orion

JRPAGV: I gave up trying to count and (this is horrible) remember the weeks a while ago. I just use the months anyway because I find unless someone else has an infant, when I tell them how old Sophie is in weeks they either ask how old it is in months or take a second to figure it out for themselves.

Same here! LOL
Carrier: I love the Bjorn now that he can face outward. I've heard great things about the Mei Tais and Mei Hip carriers too but after spending so much on the Bjorn that's what I'm sticking with for now.

I had a great time at the mom's group and I think Oliver did too. It was at a place that had a ball/climbing and a soft play area. I just laid a blanket out and he was content just watching everything. It was so nice to get out and talk with other moms. It was also interesting to see how different a baby just three months older than him is.
helen22 - Oh I loved Wicked, it was so good. I want to read the book which I understand is a little different.
JRPAGV - I just started saying that Oliver is three months.
Orion - Your DD is so cute!! I have a ring sling and the Kangaroo Adjustable Fleece Pouch. I use the KAFP when we are out since DS gets warm in it. Both are easy to BF with.
ktdelsur - I imagine it is only days until a Dec mom's pops up. It seems like yesterday that we were just posting we were pregnant!

Hello everyone! :D
Orion ~
Cute pictures of Sophie! Her & Brandon could be brother & sister. They look so much alike. I'll have to post a new picture. He doesn't really look like his newborn picture on the first page anymore & he's asleep in that one anyway. (ETA: I added a picture..which is pretty recent...but when he isn't squashing his cheeks all up..his face looks more like Sophie's.)
Mamax2 ~
I know you said that Cate & Brandon could be brother & sister too so I will need to see more pictures of her soon! :) I should post more of Brandon too.
***
I haven't been around much. I have a lot going on w/ finishing up trying to get this house ready to list. Painters are here.. I'm moving into my IL's house while the house is on the market since our new home is still being built & won't be done until September. My husband is gone for his job. He's been gone for almost a month probably & I won't see him until God knows when. I need to sell this house first & then wait until escrow closes..so it could be a while.
I've been trying to follow along somewhat. Sounds like everyone's doing great! Sorry I can't do more in the way of replies. All of the pictures that have been posted are so adorable! I can't believe how big they're all getting!
Have a great day everyone!
Oh...just came across a somewhat recent picture of Brandon. This was right at 10 weeks..so almost 2 weeks ago. He looks so dang chubby! His hair looks darker than it really is because I have to put lotion all over his head. :o

Question: Anyone else starting to get the baby bug again? I just had a little twinge of it today but I think it is because my Mom and I were talking about how fast Sophie is growing up and how she is becoming so independent. Not that there is anything that I can do about the baby bug since I am BF'ing and (this is the big one) since DH is away with the Navy for who knows how long. I don't think that I would want to have another child too soon because I want to enjoy Sophie and give her as much attention as I can.

Woo hoo - look at the purdy new thread! :)
Cookie & Orion your kids definitely look like brother and sister - amazing!
Weeks vs. Months I still keep track of the weeks. It seems too hard for me to let go of that since I've been doing it over a year now if you include the pregnancy months. :o I've started trying to say "months" more and more though.
Carrier we have the Bjorn and *love* it. DS hated it in the beginning and only started enjoying it once he could face outward. He's a nosey rosey!
Baby Bug ME ME ME! I want another one... and then another one quickly after that. In fact, if I weren't still BF I would probably be pregnant already! ;) I finally found my calling in being a mom.

Wow, it has been a while since I last posted. Well we are having such issues with Owen's sleep. I'm hoping it is because we have been going non stop for the past few weeks and finall are having some down time. So I'm trying to get him napping well again and better.
Here is a more current picture...(keeping fingers crossed that snapfish will work)

I want to post some pictures of Liliana. Where are you all hosting your pictures now? I have lot's on shutterfly but I guess thats not going to work anymore over here :(
Liliana is doing amazing!! She's such a good baby, always happy and rarely fusses. I've got so much to update but my time right now is limited, so I will be back tommorrow with some pictures and updates.
Glad to be back!! :)

Sebski - Yay for another great night of sleep! I am so jealous!! Thanks for reminding me that I know what my little man needs better than anyone. I am going to give it a little while and see what happens. If he continues to get up more than 5x a night I will seriously considering going back on the cereal. I just don't think I could handle it. We did have a very busy day on Monday! It was crazy! But so much fun. I do think that Matthew was fussier after these shots. He did handle them better during, though. He didn't cry nearly as much when he got the shots. But he had a very bad day yesterday and just cried and cried. He didn't do that the last time. Mmmm chicken and rice.
krbb - It was a great day, thanks! Thanks for the info, I will check out Kellymom. Matthew does seem satisfied right after he eats, but I have noticed that he gets hungrier sooner than he used to. We will just play it by ear and see how things go. I would really like to wait until 6 months though. Hope your mom's group went well!
shirsty - We will be paying for that shopping spree for years!!!! That compliment from the old man was so sweet. It did really make me feel good as a mom. I needed that! Hope you got some good clothes on your shopping outing!
helen22 - Thanks! I am only working part time so I probably wont be much help. My biggest tip though, is to make sure you have a great pump!!!! I started back to work with the Avent Isis which is a manual pump. I ended up with plugged ducts. Once I bought the Medela Pump In Style Advanced things went great. I pump once a day at work and usually get about 8oz which is about a bottle and a half for Matthew. He gets two bottles of pumped milk at daycare. Just nurse and pump as much as you possibly can. The only suggestion I have for you on the frozen breast milk is to maybe freeze it in small increments and in bags laying down. If you freeze the bags of milk laying down, they freeze in a thin layer. Then, put hot water in a tall glass and drop the whole bag in. It only takes a minute or two to thaw it out that way.
JRPAGV - I actually have no idea how many weeks old Matthew is. There are just so many numbers to keep track of now that I can't keep track of weeks. I think I will start using months now.
orion - She is sooo cute!
cookie777 - What a handsome little man!
jaredsgirl - Owen is adorable!
Jaycee - I have been using Snapfish. I like it a lot.

All the babies are cute and yay for the new thread!
Lindzee do you really think M slept better with the cereal? Sam will be 5 months this weekend so the 6 month 'threshhold' is on the horizon. I know it shouldn't make a difference but he's getting up 1, 2, or 3X a night so I am looking forward to trying the cereal!

Edited to add age: 19w today! :)
Cereal Shirsty, I know that you asked Lindzee, but I figured I would butt in and answer since Joey's been getting cereal now for 10 days straight. He really enjoys it (barley more than rice) and I just upped it on Monday to give him a bit in the morning as well as in the early evening. Since adding that 2nd dose, he's been sleeping better than he ever has. He's been more tired toward the end of the day and going down for the night between 6 & 6:30 and waking for the paci between 9:30 and 10:30 before getting up for a feeding at 2:30am. So, we cut our 3 to 4 wakings down to 1 essentially. I know that it might not be the cereal, he could just be developing better sleep patterns, but it seems very coincidental to me since I upped it to 2 feedings a day and he started sleeping like he did. I mix it w/ EBM and nurse a bit before he gets it so that he's not starving and, hence, frustrated w/ the spoon and then pump afterward. I never push either cereal feeding and if he doesn't seem interested, we stop. Sometimes he only gets a couple of spoons worth and then we move onto finishing the ba ba. Also, the 2 pumpings a day are really helping me build my freezer stash as well! Every baby is diff, but I really think it helped mine.
Sleep so another night of great sleep! Went down at 6:15pm and slept until 10pm when I gave him the paci and he slept again until 2am. :) He nursed and then went back down until 6am! Like I said up above, I think it's a combo of the 2 cereal feedings now and also the earlier bedtime. I was always confused when I would read about people putting their kids to bed so early... thinking, how the heck do they get them to stay down? But, I guess it does work. Even if it doesn't stick, it's really been nice feeling somewhat rested these past few days. I'm certainly taking advantage! ;)
Wish me luck everyone - I'm headed into NYC today w/ the little guy to visit my office. I've only ever driven in the city 1x and that was about 4 years ago. So, today should prove very interesting since I'm making the trip w/ a kid who detests his carseat! Yes, I'm nutz!

Ooooh, such cute babies!!! I will try to post some pictures, I have everything on ofoto which doesn't work. Someone said photobucket can use your images if they want, anyone know if that's true?
We met someone who seems like a great nanny yesterday - she brought along pictures of the other kids she cared for which I thought was nice. She was clearly very close to one family with two girls that she worked for for nine years - the whole family went to her wedding, and the older girl is holding her hand in almost every picture. Plus she wants to be paid on the books, which we want to do so as not to attract any INS attention (DH has a contingent green card)... We'll see!
baby carriers: we have the new native sling, which I only use around the house and seems to hurt my back after a while. Also the bjorn active which I loooove, we use it 90% of the time to go anywhere, it's so much easier to navigate NYC with the bjorn than the stroller (subways, etc.)
months v weeks: I only use months now, I sometimes forget how many weeks she is! :o

Thanks for starting this new thread! Everyone's babies are so cute and I will be back to share some pics of my little man.
months vs weeks 14 weeks today! I'm starting to have to really think about the weeks, since I always answer everyone in months, though.
carrier We have the Bjorn and I LOVE it and so does he since he can now face outward. He wasn't digging having my face buried into my chest.
cookie & orion your babies look so alike! How funny!
helen glad you found a good nanny! I am sure it is a huge weight off your shoulders
jaycee Liliana has gotten so big since the last time you posted! How adorable. When did you start using the jumperoo? I am dying to get one for Cole.
lindzee and other BF'ing mammas going to work how do you transport your bottles for the day to daycare? In a cooler? What is the easiest way to do it? I figure Cole will take at least 3 bottles a day while he is there starting in a week and a 1/2. :(
So, I am embarrassed to admit this, but up until a couple nights ago, my guy was still sleeping in the car seat every night. :o But, it was working and he started STTN, so I just kept on going with it. What I would do is put him in the carseat and then in the bassinet in our room. He loved it. Well, I'm trying to transition him to the crib because I would like our room back and am going back to work soon. I picked a great time to do it though - he has a cold. He has been waking up like 4 times a night (I only fed him once). I am really hoping I can get him back to STTN soon...I go back to work in less than 2 weeks! Anyone have any tips or can commisserate? Also, tonight we are going to a concert...it is only our second date since he's been born and Cole is going to stay with my MIL and we will both sleep over there. great time to try to implement the transition to his crib, huh?
helen22
03-23-2006, 09:58 AM
hey Jengen - we transitioned to the crib fairly recently, and it went OK. we are still swaddling, so I think that makes it seem more like the carseat (she was in the carseat in her crib before). can you try having Cole nap in the crib as well as go down there at night, so he spends lots of time there and can get more used to it? or, if you want to do one step at a time, you could move the carseat out of the bassinet to the crib for a few nights, then go to just the crib. We did our transition after a trip to the W Coast, so I figured she didn't have much of a routine at that point so it would be easy to implement...
Good luck, and hope he gets over the cold soon!
jengen
03-23-2006, 10:04 AM
helen I am putting him in the crib for naps as well. He used to take two really good naps a day, but now is taking 30-45 min catnaps. Oh well, hopefully he won't take too long to get used to it. :)

crib We transitioned her into the crib about a month and a half ago, and she's been pretty much been SSTN since. To be honest, none of us got very much sleep when she was in our room. I kept worrying that she wasn't breathing and so I'd end up waking her up in a panic every couple of hours if not more :o Now what we do is we let her fall asleep downstairs in her swing and then we gently move her in to her crib once she's asleep. It works like a charm, and then I have a video monitor that I keep by my bedside so I can see her breathing. yeah, call me a nutty mom ;)
Naps are a bit tougher as far as putting her in the crib so we are working on it, but for the most part she's napping in her swing during the day or in her stroller if we are out.
Jengen We got her the Jumperoo about a week and a half ago and she LOVES it!! It took her about two days before she really got the hang of it, but now she goes to town and it's hysterical to watch her jump and listen to her carrying on in that thing :D

Thanks mods for the new thread :) 5 pages is so much more managable than 100 lol.
Naps I admit that I am horrible about naps, I dont do them at the same time every day and usually they are in the swing or car while we are out running around :) For those of you that actually have some kind of schedule, do you rock DC to sleep, or put baby down awake and let them fall asleep themselves? We are planning to transition to the crib soon, and my doc recommended we do naps in there first. I was to embarassed to say he only naps in his swing :) He gets maybe 2-3 naps a day, but they only last about 30 minutes. He does sleep at night, so I am wondering how much I should be stressing over this.
We are setting up the highchair this weekend, and after seeing the cute Jumperoo pic I think we may try that too :)
4 month ped visit Everything went well, thank God. Dylan is 15 lbs 10oz (80 something %) and 26" long (90%). The doc recommended that we wait on cereal until he is 6 months, I was kind of looking forward to giving it to him since I am honestly pretty done w. breastfeeding (Lindzee I think we need to swap doctors lol). But he recommended 6 months exclusive BF if we can, so I am aiming for that. Dylan was a trooper for his shots, didnt even cry until the last one. Such a little man :)

Question: Anyone else starting to get the baby bug again? I just had a little twinge of it today but I think it is because my Mom and I were talking about how fast Sophie is growing up and how she is becoming so independent. I know isn't that interesting? It makes you wonder. We ran into a guy we know & his wife when we were taking Brandon to be circumcised. Their baby was born 2 days after him & they were also having him circumcised at the same pediatrician's office. Their son looked identical to Brandon! The other girl & I both were  ! Of course the baby's were only a little over a week old..but it was pretty crazy. Of course it's even more impressive as they get older & look alike.
Baby Bug ~
MMmmm... I didn't AT ALL really.. I mean we have a pretty set plan of when I'll get pregnant next. Probably when Brandon is about 18 months. So with that in mind & being pretty worn out from this guy..I was SCCCCCCARED to have sex because I did NOT want to get pregnant. But just recently I got a little feeling..not the baby bug but just more like..ok we definitely have to have another one of these. :D He's just too cute & he's growing so fast. :( I want to breastfeed for a year & don't like the idea of being pregnant while doing so. Then I want about 6 months to myself to get back in shape & have some fun w/o a kid attached to me. Then I'll try to get PG again & hopefully have a spring baby. :)
Weeks/Months ~
I'm still on weeks...but figure that I'll probably start saying 3 months once he hits that mark.
Carrier ~
We have the Baby Bjorn. Brandon likes it. My husband has to use it to get the baby to sleep because the other methods only work w/ me. :o
Crib ~
Ummm....... he's only taken a few naps in his crib & PnP. Now he can't go in the bassinett of the PnP because he's passed the weight limit & I haven't even tried it w/o it. Brandon is still in bed w/ me.
I said I wasn't into co-sleeping at all & overall I do think that it's important for my husband & I to get our bed back.. But now my husband is gone for his job. Has been for about a month almost & I won't see him for over a month at the soonest or much more..so it's hard to get the initiative to put him by himself.
I wanted my husband to set up the monitor that has the alarm that goes off if he stops breathing.. I forget the name. That's the one we have. But we didn't get that done before he left. You need a special board to put under the mattress or something. So I'm afraid to put him in his room by himself w/o that.
Now I'm moved into my IL's house while the house is on the market..so back to the PnP because I'm not moving the crib until the house is sold. I might try to get him down in the PnP gradually..but I know once he wakes up to eat he'll most likely be back in bed w/ me anyway. Since I'm BF'ing & too damn lazy to get all the way out of bed to feed him.
I think it will all be more important to me once we get out to see my husband again. Until then, I'm not worried about my sex life obviously & I'm just really enjoying cuddling with my little baby. Am I horrible? I feel a little guilty but just try not to think too much about it. What do you think ladies? :(

Cookie, Liliana is changing by the minute..it's amazing to compare pictures :) As for co-sleeping, I don't think you should feel guilty whatsoever!! Especially since DH is away so much. You are bonding with your baby and there is no better and more natural thing in the world, and believe me, if we could actually get a decent nights sleep with Liliana in our bed, she'd still be sleeping with us!!

shirsty - Yes, I definitely do think that the cereal helped Matthew to sleep better. The week we tried it he slept through the night. I can't believe Sam is going to be 5 months old! That is crazy!
Sebski - I guess the cereal is really working for you! Yay for such great sleep! Hope you had fun in NYC!
Jaycee - Liliana is sooo adorable! I love that born to shop shirt.
helen22 - I am glad you finally met a nanny you like. I hope things work out.
jengen - I am pretty lucky in that my daycare lives about 5 minutes from my house. I send fresh breastmilk to daycare because it is quicker to heat up and serve than having to thaw out frozen. So I just put the bags of milk in a Gladware container and put it in the diaper bag. When I get to daycare I put the container in the fridge and my daycare provider puts the container back in the diaper bag when she uses all the milk for the day. So far this has worked very well for us. If your daycare is further away than that and you are transporting frozen breastmilk, then I would use a cooler. When I pump at work I put the pumped milk in a cooler with an ice pack. My Medela Pump In Style Advanced came with a nice cooler and ice pack. It works great and keeps the milk very very cold from about 10:30 when I pack the bag until after 4 when I get home and get around to emptying it. I wish I had some advice for you in regards to the transitioning to the crib. Matthew has been in his crib since day one. We have just a one bedroom apartment and so he has no choice but to sleep in our room and we only had enough room for a small sized crib so no room for a bassinet. I do want to tell you that for the past few weeks Matthew has been waking up 3-4 times per night to eat. So I feel your pain there. Hope you find something that works soon.
Bliss - I am so glad that your apppointment went well. I am sorry your ped wants you to wait until 6 months to start cereal. I find it so frustrating that every ped seems to have a different opinion on what the right thing is to do. It makes it so hard to figure out what is right. Ugh! I honestly don't think we will make it to 6 months before starting cereal again. Matthew is waking up 3-4 times per night to eat. I think that he is just not getting full enough on my milk anymore since he is so big (15lbs 14oz). So I don't know. Sebski has been feeding her son cereal and things are going well for them. I think that you could start whenever you wanted. If my ped is saying that it is okay, then it must not be too bad. She was my ped and I survived. My parents gave me cereal at like 6 weeks and I was formula fed!

sebski i hope you had a great trip to NYC and the drive went well!
crib/sleeping we transitioned pretty easily. .DD was sleeping in our room in a bassinet until about 2 1/2 mos and she definitely needed more space. I did have her nap in her crib a few times and then we just moved her one night to the crib. she's been sleeping in it ever since w/o any problems. we usually put her down for naps/nighttime sleep awake, but drowsy (rubbing her eyes, paci in mouth and hands on her head (which is her "sleepy" symbol!) she naps usually in her crib or PNP during the day. we also need to remove the bassinet bc i think she's approaching 15 lbs. we'll see for sure on monday at her 4 mos appt.
bliss DD's naps are also irregular. for instance, yesterday morning she woke up around 7...was sleeping by 8:30...napped from 8:30-9:30 and then was back down for another nap by 11ish and slept til about 1:30! where as today, she woke up arond 6:30 and then only took a 30 minute nap around 10-10:30. so it's totally random each day. she does sleep usually when we're in the car running around so that's good.
helen congrats on finding a nanny!
months v weeks i'm pretty much using months now. I sometimes need to count in my head how many weeks it is when i post in here!
carrier we have the bjorn but really have not used it much at all. i think i need to start using it more since carrying DD is getting to be a strain on my back!

Well... i totally missed out on the beginning of this thread... i was wondering why things were so quiet! Thanks Janna for a great new thread!
Weeks vs. months Im glad to hear I'm not the only one losing track of the weeks... i think we are on week 19?
Things are going pretty well here... after a few weeks of regressive poor sleep... Molly is on her 5th night of sttn... so im feeling much better!
we are still holding out on solids... i was really convinced that Molly was waking in the middle of the night because she was hungry.. but since she is sleeping better now.. i guess it was just a phase? My plan is to wait til she is about 5 and a half months... we are going to a big family gathering with DH's family in NYC in a couple of weeks.. and i think it will be much easier if we arent trying to do cereal while we are there... (all the equipment, the mess and never mind the involvement from well-meaning relatives)
molly's very tongue obsessed lately... she has also taken to smacking her lips after a bottle... its really funny.
Baby Bug i have this every once in a while... but i think i tend to idealize what it would be like... I had a kind of reality check recently -- i spent alot time last week at my sisters house. she has a 2 year old... it brought home what it will be like to have two at once... and well.. i came out of it really nervous... our plan is to have another (hopefully) when Molly is 2.5... its going to be so chaotic... i really hope i will be able to handle it...
Im loving seeing all the new pictures of the babies that have been posted.. we definitely have the cutest thread i have ever seen!!!
ETA: Milestone I almost forgot! Molly has started rolling both ways (she has been able to go back to stomach for a while - but has finally figured out stomach to back) hopefully this is going to help all of us! less of a stranded frustrated baby is a good thing!
here is an updated photo of Molly taken earlier this week:

Sophie sttn again last night. She went to sleep at about 6:15pm and slept until 5:15 am! I couldn't beleive it. She woke up at 1 am and 3:30 am but as soon as I went to check on her, the thumb went in the mouth and she went back to sleep. I couldn't beleive how well she slept and how much better I feel after getting some sleep last night.
I went to the Public Health Nurse yesterday to get a weight check done on Sophie. I was a bit concerned about her weight because of all the changes that we have gone through in the last two weeks and her irratic schedule. She is up to 11 lbs 7 oz, so everything seems pretty good. I am so happy that we have a public nurse system here in Canada (not sure if you guys have it in the States) because with all the moving around that I am doing in the next little while, it is hard to take Sophie to a doctor. I not looking forward to going back to Calgary after Easter week-end because it took a lot of adjustment for Sophie to come to the East coast and the day after we fly back she is getting her 4 month shots. She is not going to be a happy girl. But at least by then she should see her Daddy and that will make her happy.
DH called last night and I broke out in tears. I was exhausted yesterday and was so tired last night that I became really emotional. Sometimes it becomes so hard to deal with everything by myself that I just break down. But under the circumstances, with DH in the Navy and away, and travelling with a three month old and a large puppy, I think that I am handeling thing fairly well.
DD just woke up...time to play! :D

Alanna - Yay on the 5th night of sleeping through the night! That is great! Matthew has started doing that lip smacking thing, too. That is too funny! And yay for the rolling over both ways! Matthew has yet to roll over at all. Molly is so adorable. I love that pic of her!
Orion - Yay for another night of sleeping all the way through. I am glad that Sophie's weight checked out okay. I am so glad that you were able to talk to your DH last night. You really are doing great. I don't know if I could do things as well as you have done. Keep up the good work!

Matthew has been so grumpy lately. I think he is going through another growth spurt. I have him in his swing right now of hopes of him falling asleep so that I can jump in the shower. I didn't think I was going to make it to work yesterday because he was just crying and crying all morning. Whatever he is going through I hope it goes away soon. I want my happy boy back!

I can't believe how much I've missed on this board! There's too much to reply to, but I'll try...
weeks vs. months: I've been saying months. I just counted the weeks on a calendar.
cereal: I'm going to wait until I see signs that he's ready to eat solids. I'm not putting a set time on it, whenever he's ready, he's ready. But I do think it will be sooner rather than later b/c he seems so hungry all the time. He stopped eating in the middle of the night but has started again so I think he may need to eat more.
transition to crib: We had a hard time with this, but it ended up working out. We tried putting DS in his crib at night at about 11 weeks. He wanted nothing to do with it and was miserable so we didn't push it. At about 14 weeks, it was clear that he was way too big for his bassinet. So, we first put his crib sheet in his bassinet and had him sleep on it so it would get his smell on it. We did this for about 3 nights. Then, we put the bassinet in his bedroom and let him sleep in it so he would get used to not sleeping in our room. We did that for two nights. Then we put him in his crib and he was totally fine. I don't know if it had to do with all the steps we took or if he was just ready for it. He is also napping in his crib now. He used to only nap if I was holding him. I had a breakdown one day b/c I couldn't do anything b/c I was always playing with him or holding him. I realized that whenever he was sleeping on me, his chest was against mine. Whenever I put him in his crib for a nap he was on his back and hated it. I started putting him down for naps on his stomach. I know stomach sleeping is a no-no but it's the only way he'll take naps in his crib. He does sleep at night on his back which baffles me b/c he won't sleep that way during the day.
baby bug: I go through phases of wanting another one right away to wanting to wait until DS is almost 2 to try for another one. We're going to wait right now and talk about it when DS is 1.
Sebski: I hope your trip to NYC went well. I took DS to my office in the city several weeks ago. He slept the whole entire time. He didn't even know that he was in NYC. Driving is stressful but I just went with the flow and drove pretty slowly. I hate driving in the city.
Jaycee: I'm happy to read that your DD loves the Jumperoo. We have one but I'm going to wait a few more weeks until I put DS in it. I want his head to get a little bit stronger until he starts jumping. I have a feeling he'll love it too though b/c he loves when I hold him so he's standing up with his feet on my legs.
Eveyone's babies are adorable! I'll post pics of Connor soon.

sleep & naps - We've been really lucky with the sleep lately; Matti's been going down around 8:30pm and sleeping until 7:00am - straight, no paci put ins or anything! He usually takes a 2-3 hour nap 1 1/2 - 2 hours after he gets up (in his swing). Then another 2 hour nap later in the afternoon (and some catnaps here and there), but those are not on a regular schedule. I feel kind of bad posting this, since I know how many of you are still having sleep issues - just keep reminding yourselves that every baby is different. I know that whenever I feel good that he's STTN, I think that my next baby probably won't be this good and I'll go crazy with a toddler and baby that won't sleep. Which brings me to...
baby bug - Hell no. I don't think I really even had the baby bug for this one. Even though I had a realatively easy pregnancy and L&D, I didn't enjoy it all. I'm not looking forward to doing it again. But, we do want two children, so I will, and I know it won't be that bad and it will be worth it.
solids - Our ped said we'd talk about it at our 4 month WBV, so I don't know what he'll recommend. In my head, I don't plan on starting solids until 6 months. Bliss - you mentioned that you wanted to start solids so you can give up BFing (which I completely understand - I don't know why they advertise BFing as a "joy"). How does all of that work? Don't the babies still need some liquid norishement - breast milk or formula? Were you planning on switching to formula when you introduced solids? When do solids become the primary source of nutrition for a baby? I'm asking because I have no clue how all of this works.
Everyone - Cute babies! None of our pictures are loaded on a site that will let me link to them. I'll have to do something about that, because my baby is darn cute ;)

Well, our trip into NYC went pretty smoothly. On the way home we hit some traffic at the tunnel, but DS only screamed for part of it. It was definitely weird being back there... but not as bad as I thought. Although, I don't know if that was because I knew I was leaving and not going back for several more weeks. ;)
Weaning I've begun to wean DS. I knocked out a couple of his afternoon nursing sessions and he now nurses when he wakes up and when he goes to bed. In between he has his cereal and I pump during those sessions... still trying to build up somewhat of a freezer stash. I'm going to pump for another 3 weeks I think and then stop that and just leave the morning and evening nursing sessions. I know I will regret saying this but I really want my cycles to return. I haven't had a period in over a year and I'm worried about what that's done to the strength of my cycles. It took us 6 months to get pregnant w/ DS and with all that my sister is going through w/ IVF now, it's been weighing heavily on my mind. I've also been temping for the past couple of months and there has been no ovulation at all. So, I know that I'm not one of those women who could TTC while nursing.
Scarlett you would replace the BM w/ formula until 1 year... they need that until the year mark. After that, you switch to whole milk. I don't believe that solids become primary nourishment for them until later on - like 6 or 9 months? But someone can correct me on that. Anyhoo, that's why I'm trying to build up my freezer stash... he takes 7 to 8oz in a bottle so it will be hard to keep up with that. But, I would still like to give him at least 1 BM bottle a day once he's completely weaned as well as mix his cereal with it.
Have to run - hungry baby's crying... back in a bit.
Cookie777 - Oh yeah don't feel bad about co-sleeping at all. I definitely would be doing the same thing if DH was away and could get some sleep. We all sleep better in our own rooms, but we were open to co-sleeping. I think it is a perfectly natural thing and don't understand why people think it is odd to co-sleep. How is it weird to co-sleep with your baby but not weird that your pet sleeps in your bed?
Jaycee - I was wondering where you went :). Liliana is getting so big!!
jengen - The only thing I could think of to help transition to the crib is to roll up blankets to place beside him. That way he might still feel like he is all cozy in his seat and the crib won't seem so big.
Lindzee82 - I think Oliver is going through a growth spurt or something also. His sleep at night is all weird too, we were having some really good nights there. He goes down easily but sometimes will wake up after two hours and wants to eat. Nothing DH does will settle him down. It seems that other babies were doing weird sleep patterns too around his age.
Alanna - Molly is adorable! Yeah for her rolling both ways. Oliver has the back to tummy thing down, but not the other way. It doesn't help that he hates being on his tummy so I only have him on there for a little bit.
Orion - Glad Sophie is doing good and it sounds like you are doing great! How much longer until you get to see DH again?
scarlett - Like Sebski says babies need BM or formula for at least their first year. Solids won't become their main source of nutrition until they are least a year or some babies maybe longer if they don't take well to solids.
Sebski - Glad your visit went well. Does Joey scream in his car seat a lot? Oliver seems too especially when we first get him in their. He will stop after we got on the highway or have been driving for a little bit, but once we get off he gets upset again! The pacifier worked for a couple weeks but now he hates the thing!
uh oh Oliver just woke up!

Hi ladies. I hope everyone is having a good Friday. :)
4 month WBV. It went really well. Thank you so much to all of you that told me not to worry. I don't know why I was so nervous. (Well, I do, but I just worry too much!) Anyway, it was great! Loren is 12 lbs 7 oz and 25 inches long. Her ped thinks she's growing just perfectly and doesn't want me to change a thing. What a relief! She did talk to me about fluoride/vitamin drops, but my DH & I decided not to fill the prescription yet. She was talking about making sure Lo has strong teeth and since bf'ing is her only nourishment she's not getting any fluoride. I know fluoride can be a controversial topic, but we believe in it in our house...just not yet. DH doesn't think she needs it until she actually has some teeth. We also talked about solids, kind of. We agreed to discuss it at her 6 month WBV. And of course she had her shots. She was not a happy camper. Luckily the nurse is so quick that before Lo could get out her scream the nurse was done. I scooped her up and nursed her and she only cried for a moment. It's so nice to hear her ped tell me that she is perfectly healthy and strong. I feel that way, but it's nice for it to be "official!"
carrier. We have the Baby Bjorn and I love it. But I'm already thinking ahead to when she out grows it. I'm considering getting a Mai Tei.
weeks v months. Add me to the list that has lost track of weeks.
transition to crib. We've had Lo in her crib for a few months, but we're still swaddling. I cringe at the thought of stopping. In fact I asked her ped about it and her response was, "get the sleep any way you can. she's only 4 months." That made me feel better.
baby bug. No way! I actually had a dream I was pregnant and woke up freaking out. We are so not ready yet! I'm hoping that maybe my dream meant that my SIL will be pregnant soon. She and my BIL have had a rocky road to parenthood and I'm hoping they have the baby they have been dreaming of soon.
cute babies. There are the most beautiful babies in this group! Looking at the pictures as they are posted just makes me smile. :)
Lindzee82 thank you so much for your thoughtful post about my worries. I really appreciated it and it made me feel so much better. It's so nice to come to this group and have other moms that are going through similar stuff.

Wow, I've missed a lot! Sometimes it's hard even to keep up with reading. Lindzee, I'm here, I didn't miss your SO a while back in the earlier thread! :) It's just that now my mom is back, and we've been busy trying to set up her apartment. And even when she's around to help me with the baby, you'd think I'd have more time on my hands but it's just the opposite. Since I have a partner in crime now, someone always available to go out for coffee with or whatever, now we're doing more and I seem to have less time on my hands than ever. I've gone back to my Greek classes now, and so that means leaving Zoe with my mom for 4 hours, twice a week. I was nervous about how that would go, especially since Zoe still fights the bottle. But it's gone surprisingly well. Zoe fights less at bottle time and my mom is more persistent than anyone else. Before she came, I never got any help from anyone with the bottle battle because as soon as Zoe would cry, they'd give up. It was so frustrating, because I felt very desperate that nobody would help me teach that to her. I could never go anywhere away from her, no movies, no dinners, no trips to the gym, and I worried most of all what would happen if something happened to me? What if I got really sick or had to go to the hospital or something? Obviously then DH and his family would have to step up and find a way to feed the baby, but it would have been really traumatic for everyone. So anyway it's a huuuuuge relief that now my mom is helping with this.
Helen, is it true that you have to use the defrosted milk within 24 hours? I've been trying to use it within 48 hours. Usually we use it within 24 hours but there have definitely been times I've given her a bottle that's been in the fridge 2 days. I haven't noticed any ill effects so far, but now I'm worried what to do going forward. I agree that a window of only 24 hours would make me worry alot about wasted milk. And you said since you don't have a standalone freezer, you have to use some of your oldest frozen milk now? What is the time limit for milk frozen in the freezer section of your fridge? I think the oldest I have in there is from late January...
I need to get a more recent picture up online!
ETA somewhat recent pic:

DH will kill me for putting a pic that includes him online, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him I guess.
Shirsty, I love your DS's little helmet, he looks like a miniature quarterback. It's adorable.
Milestone Zoe finally rolled over a few days ago! Back to tummy. We'd been having roll-over lessons, she was sooo pleased with herself when she managed it all by herself. And of course Mommy, Daddy and Nana are very proud!

Lindzee82: You are a sweetheart. I don't think that I could do this if it weren't for people like you encouraging me along the way.
krbb: I am hoping to drive up to Montreal (about a ten hour drive) on April the 12 to go to DH graduation but it all depends on MIL and if she can get the time off. Since my car is back in Calgary, I need someone to go with me in order to be able to drive. Plus I don't want to drive alone since I will be travelling with Sophie. If I don't go up there that week-end, we really aren't too sure when we will see each other again. Hopefully, if it isn't that week-end, it will only be a short time after that.
It sounds like we have a lot of grumpy babies in here right now (albeit, cute ones!). I guess since they are all so close in age that they will all be going through the grumpy teething and/or growing spurts at around the same time. Good thing we have each other so when we vent we know that there is someone out there who is understanding because as we all know, not everyone around us thinks that we know what we are doing or very understanding!

I have a lot of catching up to do, but I see a lot of you responded to my questions about crib transition and BM transportation, so thanks!! :)
Forgot to answer this one earlier, but this pretty much sums up my feelings, too, except I did have the baby bug with Cole:
baby bug - Hell no. I don't think I really even had the baby bug for this one. Even though I had a realatively easy pregnancy and L&D, I didn't enjoy it all. I'm not looking forward to doing it again. But, we do want two children, so I will, and I know it won't be that bad and it will be worth it.
Plus, I don't know, I just want to enjoy Cole as long as I can and I feel like having another baby right away would take away from that, especially since he will be in daycare 5 days a week. Maybe if I were staying home, I'd feel different. Right now we plan to wait at least til he's 2 to start trying again.

Hello everybody!!:p I'm so glad we have a new thread, thank you Janna for starting it.
I was always way behind in the old thread, and never felt like I could keep up, therefore I never posted.
Sophia is 3 months old now, and she's such a beautiful, happy,
loving baby!! We couldn't' be more in love with her.
We just moved into our new house about a week ago, we moved here from another state, so the whole moving process from packing to being in the new house (nowhere near to being fully unpacked) took us about a week.
All this has taken a toll in Sophia, sleeping in different places, getting to meet a LOT of people (my DH's family), having way to many people in our house the first week: the painters, many different service people, and of course my in-laws plus the dog who stayed with us for 4/5 days even though we now live 1 1/2 hours away  .
She's been fussy, needy and waking up one extra time at night ( she used to wake up only once).
But as of last Tues, it's been just her and me, my 23 year old brother who had been visiting for 2 months (I miss him a lot), and my DH who's a pilot, they both left on the same day:eek: .
So now I'm working on establishing some kind of routine around bed time, and she's already doing a lot better.
Replies:
weeks v months: we've been using months for a while. I actually had to look at a calendar to know how many weeks old she is.
baby bug: not really. I still remember the pain too well  . I loved being PG, but those 2 hs. pushing were the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. If it wasn't because I feel it wouldn't be fair to her, I wouldn't have another one. I'd like to have the 2nd one by the time she's 3 years old, but being that I'm 34 years old, and that it took us a full year to conceive her, we'll probably start trying by the time she's 1 1/2 years.
cute babies: this thread has definitely the cutest babies (if I say so myself)
carrier: we have a Hotsling pouch, which she LOVES. I put her in there and she sleeps like a champ, no matter where we are. We also have the bjorn, but she doesn't care for it, maybe she will once she can face out.
transition to crib: well, I'm embarrassed to say we don't have her crib yet. Because we were moving we didn't want to set it up in the old house. So we kept her furniture at layaway. And because of real bad timing, we were able to pick up only her dresser and hutch, before we left our old city, so now they'll be shipping the crib to us in about 2 weeks. This brings me to a QOTD:
Which mattress do you have? how do you like it? I'd appreciate your recommendations
Posting because I'm afraid CC's gonna eat my post,

It's been a long time since I've posted and I hope I can try to keep up this time. Everyone's babies are getting so big. Aiden had his 4mo appt a while back and he weighed in at 16lbs 4oz (90%) and 24 3/4in long(75%) I think the length could be inaccurate. But his second set of shots were worse than the first. The sites were swollen and very hot to the touch, slight fever and waking every other hour crying like he rememberd the injections. It was rough but all is well now.
BUT he has been refusing the bottle for about a MONTH! He just stopped cold turkey for some reason and for aweek we tried and tried, even starved him for 7 hours:( (I was out all day and he was with DH) and he STILL didn't want it. So after that week I haven't been trying as much as I should. Any suggestions?? Is there no hope?
Cereal just tried this last nite. I guess he liked it but he only ate a little bit of what I made, the rest was spit out.
carrier got the bjorn and loves it now that he is forward facing, hated it facing my chest though:rolleyes:
transition to crib DS has been sleeping in his crib since day1, I'm the one who needs to transition back to my room:p DH and I sleep in his room
weeks v months I too have lost track of weeks.
okay hope I can keep up.... have a great day!

Heee! What cute babies we have in here!
Here's mine...
http://www.dropshots.com/photos/75149/20060321/171600.jpg
I'm not keen on posting a ton of him here but I wanted to at least put one! We got his 3-mo pics back and they are GREAT. I need to go scan them in somewhere so I can post them.
sleeP: Crossing my fingers - we've had 3 nights of good solid sleep 9-6am. Here's hoping it stays that way for awhile.
grumpiness:He does seem to get grumpier faster. He got real grumpy sitting in my lap at the doc's office Wednesday for a checkup (to make sure his antibiotics had worked, etc) and I had to walk him around to get him to calm down. Augh.
baby bug: I enjoyed being pregnant, and had a relatively easy pregnancy and delivery, so I don't dread having another one. I do dread PAYING for another one ... DH still is finishing grad school and we didn't even intend to have the FIRST one until he finished and that didn't work out so well. LOL We'd like to wait 3-4 years before #2. I'm seeing my best friend struggle w/ her two-year-old and her 8-week-old, and she's so frazzled...*phew*
Glad those of you who have traveled far w/ the babies had a good experience. We'll be taking a 6.5-hour drive to Florida for a wedding (ILs are keeping him while we're at the wedding)...so that will be the longest he's been in the car. Should be interesting.

Malala Sophia is a real cutie!
Mattress we have one of those colgate foam ones... (cant remember the exact model.. it was the middle model in the place we got it... Molly sleeps pretty well... and i like that its so light i can pull it out easily by myself if i need to....
Alb: Im so glad you checked back in! Ive been wondering what you have been up to! Did i miss something? Is you Mom moving to Greece permanently?? How cool that she is back!!! I love that picture of Zoe... its so funny.. i think she and Molly really look somewhat alike! it must be that due date bond!
Fwgirl sounds like Loren had a great WBV!

Hawaii, big HUGS about the bottle battle. The only trick I have when she absolutely refuses the bottle is to start with the breast, then pull out my nipple (ouch!) and quickly put the bottle in her mouth and hope she keeps sucking. We did this for weeks before I could get her to accept the bottle without the "switcheroo", as we called it. And I've been fighting the bottle battle every single day--if I let a day go by without trying to give her the bottle, the following day is twice as hard. Good luck. I know how trapped you feel if you can *only* feed your baby with your breast.
Alanna, thanks for the nice things you say about Zoe! Mollly is a cutie also, and such a smiler! Seems like that girl has had a big smile on her face since the moment she was born!

Albuquerque - I went to check kellymom to see what their guidelines are for using frozen EBM, since my books say all different things. Here's what they have on their site:
FRESHLY EXPRESSED MILK
Warm room (79) - 4-6 hours
Room temp (66-72) - 10 hours
Insulated cooler (60) - 24 hours
REFRIGERATED MILK - STORE AT BACK, AWAY FROM DOOR
Fresh milk - 8 days
Thawed milk - 24 hours
FROZEN MILK - DO NOT REFREEZE - STORE AT BACK, AWAY FROM DOOR, SIDES
Freezer compartment inside refrigerator - 2 weeks
Self-contained freezer unit of a refrig/freezer - 3-6 months
Separate deep freezer - 6-12 months
One thing that seems crazy is they have an article that says "don't shake the milk" http://www.bflrc.com/ljs/breastfeeding/shakenot.htm I don't know about anyone else, but my milk separates completely into a thick layer of fat at the top and then thin milk down below. How can I not shake it to mix the two?? Weird.

OK, just a little vent - I've been soooo looking forward to my mom visiting this weekend, to get a little baby-help, some advice, babysitting, etc. It's the end of her first day here, and I'm so annoyed! She said yesterday on the phone, "I don't want to just stay at your house this time, I definitely want to go into Manhattan." Well, OK, but that's a big undertaking. So today we went into midtown to meet my sister for lunch. My sister has a cold, but still touched the toys, etc., even though I asked her not to. My mom says, oh, I'll eat fast so I can hold her. Instead, I wolf my food down (anyone else find they now eat insanely fast??? I'm a little embarassed sometimes :o ) and my mom doesn't help to hold her. After lunch, my mom has no particular agenda - so why did she insist on trekking into Manhattan?? So we wander around 5th Ave, ugh, boring and touristy. Then once we're home, she's really negative about DH and I putting the baby to bed at 7, even though the baby is clearly getting grumpy. Mel fusses while she's being put down, because she's tired, so my mom gets up and says, dramatically, "I have to go for a walk! I can't listen to her cry!" Hmm, thanks so much. This is great.
It's difficult enough for us to have her visit and stay with us in our tiny apartment, but when she's weird and socially awkward on top of it....!!! This is another part of why I want to move back to the W Coast - these intense visits where we're all on top of one another are just exhausting - so much better if we can visit for a few hours and be done.
I'm so sorry to complain, I hate being so negative :(

Sebski - Glad your trip to NYC went well. You brave girl! Are you and DH planning on TTC in the very near future? I didn't know you were thinking about weaning. Are you giving formula instead of nursing? I ask that because you don't mention it in the feeding schedule that you described. Just make sure you are giving enough fluids along with the cereal. I think we are going to be starting cereal very soon. As much as I hate to, I just think Matthew needs it.
krbb - So yeah, maybe it is a growth spurt, or maybe it is just something related to this new age?? I just wish that whatever it was it would go away because Matthew is just sooooo grumpy all.the.time right now. Ugh!
fwgirl - Glad the 4 month visit went well. You are very welcome. I am so glad we have this thread, also. It is very nice to be able to talk with others going through the same sort of things. I don't know what I would do without it!
albuquerque - Well hello there! Glad to see you back! I didn't know your mom was moving to Greece!!!! That is great. Also great that she is so proactive about making sure Zoe gets her bottle. Aren't moms the best?? Oh my goodness, Zoe is sooo adorable! Yay for rolling over!!
Orion - Aww, thanks. Anytime. You know where to find me! :)
malala - Sophia is so cute! She looks like a very happy baby!
Hawaii2SJ - Hello there! Wow, your Aiden sure is a heavy little boy!!! I am sorry he took his shots so hard. It is awful to have to see them go through it. I hope he is feeling okay now.
Carrier - We have a Snugli. Matthew really likes it.
helen22 - Right, you are not supposed to shake the milk because it can damage it. What you should do is "swirl" it. I find that the milk blends together much easier once it is warm. So we heat it and then swirl it.

I had NO idea! Could this be why he's starting to refuse the bottle? I just assumed that he's getting picky & preferring me. But I wonder if I'm damaging the milk & he just doesn't like it?
I'm so glad this was brought up! I will heat & then "swirl" from now on.. But one question: What if you're not using the whole bottle? If I pour out some to heat..it will be all seperated. Only parts of it will pour out rather than the milk all mixed together..you know? Or am I thinking too much?

OMG....just had to post this morning. It is currently 6:30am and Sophie hasn't woken up for a feeding yet! I can't believe that she is sleeping through the whole night (ETA that she went to sleep at 5:45 pm and her last feeding was at 5:30). This is great but can we say ouch for the BF Mama here! :D Does anyone know what this will do to my supply? Is it a bad thing for BF'ing if she doesn't feed at night? I've noticed that my supply has leveled off, meaning that when I'm feeding her on one side the other doesn't leak all over the place now. Is this what is suppose to happen or is my supply too low? So many questions for so early in the morning! :p

shaking BM I'm another one who was clueless about that until I read that article on kellymom. I could swear, though, that I read somewhere that you should shake it, so prior to reading that I always did and Cole had no problem taking it. Now I just swirl it, and cookie I don't think there is any way to avoid having it separate completely, because we have to pour it from the containers into the bottle and that shakes it up, anyway, right? I really don't think it affects it too much, but what do I know. I feel so confused about the BF'ing/thawing/storing/mixing rules sometimes, because I've read and heard conflicting info on a lot of stuff. :)
helen sorry to hear your Mom wasn't too helpful and you had a stressful visit. My Mom came down every day the week after Cole was born and refused to change dirty diapers. Still hasn't to this day.
Orion your body will start to adjust to skipping the night feeding and you will still wake up a little engorged, but nothing like the first few times and it will not affect your day supply if you are still nursing/pumping every 2-3 hours during the day. What I do to help alleviate the swelling and build up my freezer stash is pump right before I go to bed around 9 or 10. And also, there have been nights where Cole doesn't STTN and wants to eat and I am able to feed him - you supply will not tank so much that you can't feed them if they need to be fed.
Here is a new pic of my little man. I played around in paintshop pro to just show the color of his eyes. We are shocked they are still so blue. I did that eye color predictor online and he only had a 5% chance of having blue eyes! Dr thinks they will stay this way.

Quick flyby post to say what beautiful kiddos we have in this thread!
Are you giving formula instead of nursing?
Lindzee yes, I forgot to mention that in my post. Joey gets formula instead of the nursing. He gets EBM mixed in his cereal and also w/ the bottle he gets along w/ the cereal. That bottle is only 4oz so I can manage to pump for it. Straight bottle is about 7 or 8oz so we give formula for that. And yes, we're going to TTC soon. Did I just say that? ;) Probably this summer. So, I want my cycles back for that and for the fertility testing (day 3 cycle test) I need done to see where I fall w/ the hereditary probs my sister is facing now. I want to have the kids very close in age and also be in baby-mode for one long full swoop. ;)
Have to run - DS is calling!

I am finally back after our hard drive crashed a while ago. It feels like it was forever, but I think it was maybe 2 weeks ago. It is amazing how cut off from things I feel after such a short time of no email or internet connection. I still have to catch up on about 20 pages of previous posts but I will be back to report and respond soon. My ILs are here so I won't get to it until Monday probably. But at least were back! YAY!
I missed you guys!
Also, just wanted to say that my peanut has definitely grown. On the 21st he was up to 14 lbs 6.5 oz and 25.5 inches! It is amazing.

Lindzee82: I'm sorry that Matthew is going through a grouchy phase. I hope he grows out of it soon!
Cookie777 and Orion: Wow! your babies could totally be brother and sister, it's amazing! Also I wanna tell you both, that I have a lot of respect for you 2 taking care of your babies with DH being away.
My DH is gone for 2 weeks at a time every month, and after the 1st week it starts getting tough for me, so I can only imagine what it must be like for you guys. I think that Brandon and Sophie are very lucky to have such strong mommies:)

MrsTazlvr - You are welcome!
Cookie777 - I really don't think that he is refusing because you shake the milk. I can't imagine that it makes a taste difference. Maybe if you didn't mix it at all, then there would be a taste difference. When you are making just a partial bottle, I would try and swirl the milk the best you can while it is cold and then just pour out what you are going to use, heat it and then swirl again.
Orion - Yay for another great night of sleep. After a while your supply will start to regulate to no feedings at night. But until it does, you can always pump in the morning if you are very engorged.
jengen - Awww, what a little cutie you have there!
Sebski - Oh, okay. I was so confused! OMG on TTC soon!!!! That is crazy!!! But I am very happy for you. I hope that you can conceive very quickly! Eric has decided that there is no way we are going to have another baby! He thinks we have our hands plenty full with Mr. Matthew! After his two weeks of grouchiness, I have started to agree 100%! ;)

TTC:I'm honestly scared every time we DTD that by some weird chance I'll get PG again. I'm back on the Pill and haven't missed any, but I still freak out at the thought of a December 2006 baby. We'd deal, but it'd be really hard! I don't know what work would think of me trying to take maternity leave again this year. LOL
We want another one but not so soon! I just had my yearly appt and had "abnormal" pap results so I'm dealing with that now. It's more than likely nothing, but I've never had an abnormal one before. We'll see.
Andrew's 4-mo appt is in less than 2 weeks, and when he went for his "lets see if his antibiotics took away his ear infection" checkup last week he was 16 lbs!!!!!

I think I've missed a lot, but I'll make an attempt to catch up (even though it's late and I should go to bed!)
baby bug ~ well, yes & no. Yes, if you mean, do I want to have another baby. No, if you mean do I want to do it anytime soon! I guess for me, it's like someone (Katie?) may have mentioned about their friend who has a newborn and a 2 y.o. and seems frazzled. That's pretty much how I feel. It's not that I'm necessarily stressed out, it's just that I can't give 100% of myself to either child and I feel badly because my older child takes the brunt of my frustration and impatience and my baby, well, she doesn't get to know the me that was doting and focused and calm like I was with my older DD. My SIL said it took her a good 3 months to start feeling like she wasn't a complete failure of a mother once she had 2, so I'm hoping I start to feel that way too. Plus, the big thing w/me is that I HAVE to get out of the house and that just seems really tough w/3, kwim? So, I really want to wait until DD1 starts school before we have our third, and final, baby.
sleeping arrangements ~ Cate is still in the bassinet in our room where she stays until she wakes for her first feeding and then she's in bed w/us for the rest of the night (usually). Just last week, DH asked me about moving her out of our room, but I'm in no rush. It's just that this is the only time that we have all to ourselves w/out my 2 y.o. there. I'm just enjoying the one-on-oneness of it for now. But, that said, I will probably try to have her start napping in her crib soon - like maybe this week.
We're enduring our first round of colds here. Luckily, I have the worst of it, both of my girls got away w/just a stuffy nose and a few sneezes. We're taking our first road trip up to NJ this weekend for my nephew's birthday party. My ILs have a tiny house there (and a bigger house here) so it should be interesting w/4 adults and 2 kids and 1 bathroom for the weekend  I'm already starting to wonder what we're getting ourselves into :p

mamax2: That was me that said that about my friend who is definitely frazzled. I think she said their daily naps only overlap by about 15 mins so thats about the time she gets to sit and breathe for a minute. She's only got a few weeks maternity leave left (lucky thing got 13 weeks PAID) but she doesn't see how she's going to fit WORK into her schedule (she only works part time). Poor thing can barely get to the grocery store. A few girlfriends and I are going to the coast for a weekend in May for a "girls weekend", no hubbies or babies...and I invited her to go, knowing she could use a small getaway. She said she couldn't go though because she really didn't think her husband could handle the two babies by himself for a weekend!!!:(

Good Morning Ladies,
Before I was on here complaining that Sophie was waking up so much during the night due to a growth spurt, changing time zones, teething, etc but now it is because I need some feedback on her sleeping through the entire night. I put her to bed between 5:30 and 6:30 pm every night and now she is sleeping until 7:00 am without waking up for a feeding. Should I be letting her sleep that long? Isn't that too long for a BF'ed baby to be going without nursing? I have been waking her up at about 3:30 am because I think that she shouldn't be missing a night feeding. Her weight is good but she is always on the low end of the weight gain scale. At the last weigh in she was up to 11 lbs 7 oz meaning that she is gaining just under 1/2 oz per day. The nurse said that she should be gaining at least 1/2 oz per day up to a full oz. That being said, should I be waking her up? I should mention that she has been uping her daytime feedings but I still feel that 13 hours is too long for a 3 1/2 month old BF'ed baby to go without eating.
Lindzee82: Matthew is so adorable!
malala: Thank you for the kind words. It is tough with DH being away but I am so lucky to have been able to fly home to have the support of both my family and DH's.
Another question: For those of you who give the little one cerel: what do you mix it with? I'm just wondering because I'm debating whether or not to buy a breast pump and if I mix the cerel with breast milk than I will buy one while I am home because things are much cheaper in NS than they are in Alberta's cities!
Sebski
03-27-2006, 04:39 AM
Orion I mix DS's cereal w/ BM. If you want to get a pump, I had gotten the Medela single electric pump for when I got home from the hospital and it worked great! I pumped the one side while DS ate on the other and built up a nice freezer stash that way. I purchased a PIS a few weeks ago thinking I would get even more milk with it, but eh, I could take it or leave it. It's a great pump, quiet and all... but, I think I got more milk from the single electric believe it or not. And, now that the plan is for DS to be weaned by 6 months, I won't need the PIS at work.
I can totally understand the frazzled state of having 2 under 2. But, we want a few more and things don't look promising if we wait. My sister is undergoing her first IVF and there's just so much involved with it. I give her tons of credit but, well, we really don't want to have to go down that road. So, we figure we'll just keep on trudging along hopefully conceiving on our own.
Have to run - we're heading out to the mall today to meet the Easter Bunny with DS's cousins! :)

Hey all, thanks for the support on my complain-y post about my mom - of course it turned out great, and I'm so sad now that she's gone - really, the solution would be a bigger apartment! :D
Quick question to jump on Sebski's brave TTC plan (wow!!!) - do you guys have any idea/plan about how many kids you want total? I think the total number affects how you want to space them, etc. DH and I are not sure at all. We definitely want one more - DH is an only child and would have liked siblings - but not sure if we want two total or three total. Of course it's hard to plan everything, and who knows how things will work out, but just curious what other people are thinking....
Have to run, baby is squawking - and man is she loud...am I the only one with a very loud and vocal child??? :o

saving us from page 2!
just got back from DD's 4 mos WBV here are her stats:
weight: 14lbs 9 oz
height: 24 3/4 in
she's growing and doing great per the dr! everythign went well. she had 4 shots :( , but took them like a trooper! she's sleeping it off now!
the ped said we could start w/rice at about 5 mos and w/other foods at 6 mos. she seems to be doing fine still w/the formula so i am in no rush to add solids yet.
sebski wow TTC #2...you go girl! we're not ready for that just yet. i think we'll start TTCing maybe NEXT summer.
lindzee such a cute picture of matthew!
picture people we got a gift certificate for PP and i'm going to make an appt for next week. so we'll see how it goes. i think they are a little pricier than sears or jcpenney so i'm hoping the quality and product will be good.

orion - Thanks! I would not wake Sophie to eat. At 3 months she should have pretty good control over her hunger. If she was hungry, she would wake up. Since you said that she has upped her daytime feedings it seems that she has just grasped the concept that daytime is for eating and nighttime is for sleeping. Maybe she can give Matthew some tips! ;) As long as she is gaining weight I wouldn't worry too much about it. You could call your ped and see what she recommends just to be on the safe side. When I fed Matthew cereal, and when I start again, I mix it with breastmilk. If you would be pumping just for cereal you should be good with just a little handpump.
sem426 - Glad the appointment went well! Thanks!

Matthew woke up 6 times last night to eat! I am going crazy over here. He has been getting up at least 4 times a night for the past few weeks, but last night was the absolute worst night yet. We are going to play group in a little while and I am going to talk to the lactation consultant to get some ideas of how to deal with this. I am thinking that we will have to go back to cereal at night. I hate to do that, but Matthew does not nap during the day and he needs his night sleep. So we will see what happens.

# of kids I want 5 kiddos. Yes, I'm crazy... but I come from a large family and really want to have a large brood of my own. :D Hence our desire to keep on trucking when it comes to babies! ;)
Sem congrats on a good WBV! Have fun at the PP... we went last week and I wasn't terribly impressed. My fault mainly. I remember my sister not caring for this particular PP and as a result, she went to a diff one and ended up loving it. A tip - be vocal. If you want diff poses/backgrounds or props, speak up and ask for them. At the PP I went to, they weren't really all that interested in offering things up.
Lindzee maybe it's just a growth spurt? Does he really need to eat or is he just waking? Will he take a paci instead of feeding? If you don't feel comfy going back to the cereal, then I wouldn't. DS slept beautifully last week and then was up on Saturday and Sunday nights so, go figure. He's getting cereal 2x's a day now and still not predictable when it comes to sleep. Not complaining though because he still had his best sleep stretch ever last week. I'm figuring the last 2 nights have been a spurt/teething.
It's beautiful outside here today! We were out and about strolling along in the stroller. :) We met some new neighbors around the block from us that we hadn't ever met before. It's amazing how many people stop you to talk when they see you pushing a baby in a stroller!
Edited to ask a question... has anyone been asked how old DC is only to be met w/ comments about how big they are in contrast to their age? Everyone is always telling me that DS can pass for a 6 month old. FIL said yesterday it's from his "baby fat" and I told him to zip it - DS isn't fat, he's HEALTHY! ;)

Thanks everyone, for the compliments on Cole's pic! :) We are still dealing iwth crib transition issues. Our little guy was up 3 times last night, but I was able to get him back to sleep by shushing him and rubbing his tummy but not feeding him. I actually caved and put him in the carseat and in the crib, but hope to have him completely out of it soon. I think he just hates being flat on his back! He doesn't mind being left alone in his room and does go down for naps in there with no problem, although he does nurse to sleep at night.
I can't believe I have to go back to work in a week!! 15 weeks went by entirely too fast. My DH works 12-15 hr days and I never get a break M-F, so some days I feel ready to have some "me" time again (even if it is working) but I so wish it were only part-time. Maybe someday.
sebski I agree with PP, you are one brave woman to TTC already, but I can totally understand your reasoning and I have friends who've had their kids really close together and swear that it is easier to deal with all the various "stages" at the same time vs spacing it out. good luck! :)
How did Joey like the Easter Bunny? I want to take Cole, but afraid he will just look freaked out in the pics. :D
lindzee sorry to hear about another rough night, but what a cutie he is!
orion if she can go that long without eating, I say go for it! :) I would ask your pediatrician, though. Cole is in the 95% so I think that they would tell me he could afford to skip a couple of meals!
sem glad your appt went well!
how many kids We want 2. Sometimes I think about having 3 because I love having two siblings myself and we are so close and I'd love for Cole to have that as well, but there were a lot of things my parents couldn't do for us because of the financial expense of having 3 kids. I go back and forth, but we'll probably stick to plan A.

jengen: I talked to my MIL today who is a nurse and said that babies at this age should be able to regulate themselves when it comes to feedings so I guess I might just be sleeping through the night from now on! But I'm still going to keep a watch on her because she is only in the 10 % for weight so that is why I'm not really sure what to do.
Lindzee82: I feel odd giving advice after receiving so much help from you regarding the same problem of not sleeping much in the night. One thing that really helped me was not jumping up the minute that Sophie woke up and fussed in the middle of the night. When I first got to my Mom's house, Sophie was in the same room as me and I was so tired from the time change and travelling that the minute she woke up, I jumped up and feed her just so I could get back to sleep quicker. After waking up so many times in the night I decided that things needed to change. The first thing that I did was move her out of my room because she didn't sleep in the same room as us back home and the second was that if she woke up I let her fuss for a few minutes before jumping up to feed her. After about five minutes she was able to find her thumb (yes, I have a thumb sucker) and soothe herself back to sleep. Now I'm on CC worrying about her sleeping for 13 hours straight. She does still wake up in the middle of the night but as soon as she finds her thumb she goes right back to sleep. But I do think that a big reason she was waking up so much when I first got home is that she hit her three month growing spurt so maybe Matthew is just going through one and there is nothing that you can do but wait it out. Either way, I'm thinking about you guys and sending you some lovely sleep vibes this evening!
Sebski: Thanks for the pumping help. I think that I am going to get the Medela Harmony hand pump because I won't be using it that often. Only to increase my supply if needed and to mix with cerel.
For those BF'ing Mom's out there...what is your supply like? I'm asking because before I had an over supply. I was always engorged and living in wet t-shirts and DD was choking whenever she ate but it was never a major problem. But since hitting the three month mark of BFing I don't feel full anymore and I'm starting to worry that I don't have enough milk for DD. She usually only feeds from one side so I've changed that in order to make sure my supply remains but has anyone else who is BFing have the same 'empty' feeling?

sebski we cross-posted earlier. Cole is 26 inches long and at least 16 lbs at 14 weeks old. We get the big/fat baby comments ALL. THE. TIME. I feel your pain! :)
BM Supply it's funny you ask this, I was just starting to feel like my supply is dwindling the last few days. Cole has been pretty much STTN (or at least, not eating during the night, he still wakes) for the last 3 weeks and has been going for longer stretches during the day sometimes and I think it's killing my supply. I also have had that "less full" feeling and last night before I went to bed (3 hours after he'd last eaten) I pumped for 10 mins and NOTHING was coming out (I used to get at least 3 ozs). I'm going to have to start eating oatmeal and maybe buy that mother's milk tea or something b/c I'm going back to work next week!

Sebski - 5 kids??!! You are crazy!!! Good luck with that! Regarding Matthew...I was wondering if it was a growth spurt but it has been going on for about two weeks. Usually growth spurts are supposed to only last like 2-3 days, or so I thought anyway. He might not necessarily need to eat, but he does eat when I try. The lactation consultant suggested that we have Eric get up with him in the middle of the night and try to soothe him with the pacifier. So we will try that. I really want to try and mak
