i haven't made rice krispie treats since i was 12 years old, or thereabouts. but i'mmaking some for a party next weekend. i want to make layered bars - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry - kinda like harlequin ice cream.

how do i get the strawberry? can i substitute strawberry flavored marshmallow fluff for the marshmallows? or should i just melt the marshmallows and add some pink food coloring and strawberry flavoring? i can't find a recipe that uses marshmallow fluff.

has anyone ever done layers before? wondering if there is any trick to it. or just make the 3 batches and layer them in 1 by 1. i was thinking of using loaf pans, and then cut them into thin slices. do you think this will work?

thanks,

I'd use the strawberry fluff and then add just a tiny bit of food coloring if you want it to be a definite red. And yeah, I'd make three batches and layer them just like you described. I think it would work fine.

I've never made tricolored ones, but I've made layered ones with chocolate and butterscotch chips and that's what I did ... made different batches and layered them in a 9x13 rectangular pan.
