tray622 - I know I'll be in the same boat regarding due date confusion. If you use my LMP my due date will be March 15, but I know I didn't ovulate until Day 19, which puts me at March 20. Your daughter, by the way, could not possibly be any cuter. :)
I've been reading a lot of the "how I told DH" stories lately, so I thought I'd share mine: I woke up very early in the morning eleven days past ovulation, couldn't get back to sleep, and decided to test - 3 positives on three different brands. Very excited, I was desperate to share the news with my best friend, who just had her first baby, and has been asking me incessantly whether or not I am pregnant yet. She lives in NYC, and we are in California, so I knew there was a good chance she'd be on IM already. Then it occurred to me that I could not possibly share the news with her without telling my DH first, so I cuddled up to him in bed, kissed and poked him awake, told him I was pregnant, dragged him to the bathroom and shoved a series of sticks in his sleepy face, and then sent him back to bed so I could chat with my buddy with impunity.
I am a romantic, yes? ;)

You're telling DH story sounds similar to mine. On the morning of his Birthday I was also up really early and couldn't get back to sleep even tough I vowed I wouldn't test again until the next day, but I had gotten a faint blue line a few days before. But, I couldn't helf myself. Upon getting the results, I also cuddled up in bed with him, cleared my throught to bring him to consciousness and shoved the test stick in his face to read the results... fortunately I had picked up the certainty test that actually had a read out that reads "PREGNANT" otherwise I'm not sure he would have know what to make of the test with the two blue lines.

telling DH With #1 we werent TTC either but we took a risk since we knew we wanted a baby. I found out and waited 2 days which killed me to tell him at the right moment. I bought him a frame that said mommy and daddys little on and put inside "you are going to be a daddy!" I wrapped it with a DVD he wanted to throw throw him off. It was an amazing moment. With this surprise, we werent TTC and honestly werent thrilled at the thought of babies so close. I took a test a saw the faintest shadow of a line. The same thing happened with DD... no test would show a line except the digitalsand I was only about 9-10dpo. I love the digitals! Anyway, I just told him I thought I was pg and then on Fathers day he was giving Zoey a bath and I took the digital without him knowing. I just went "OH MY GOSH" and he knew. We are getting much more excited everyday :D We then told his parents with a shirt that said "I am going to be a big sister" and that was a lot of fun.
Wow... I sure know how to ramble ;)

I had a bit of a scare yesterday. When I woke up and went to the bathroom I was bleeding. I had some bloody cm Thursday, but I knew that could be normal. Well yesterday was like the 1st day of AF. I called my doc and spoke with her partner and he was really nice and told me that bleeding happens in about 1/3 of PG women. He said that unless the bleeding got worse or my cramps intensified that I should be okay and to just take it easy. I still have a little bit of bleeding, but it isn't as bad as it was yesterday. I have my 1st prenatal appt. Tuesday so I'll feel a little better about things then.

I'm utterly terrified to be posting in this thread.....not sure if this one will stick but I figure that it's good to think positively, right? :)
We've been TTC for just over 2 years and have had 3 mc's. This month we were waiting for AF to come so we could start testing for IVF. On 5-7 DPO I had very light spotting which is not unusal for me, but the temps kept going up. Got my first VERY LIGHT BFP at 8 DPO, and subsequent +'s each morning (getting darker very slowly....)
Here's our stats:

ajb That sounds scary, glad the doctor said everything was okay!
telling DH He was still in bed, so I climbed on the bed and said, "It's positive." He said, "Really?" and "Is it really obvious?" I think he didn't really believe me.
My first doctor's appointment is Tuesday - actually I'm just meeting with the nurse so she can take down my medical history and all that.

ajb I am sorry you had a scare! With my first I actually had some bleeding from 4 weeks - 10 weeks. I know it is scary but I have heard and read the same thing your doc said. It is most common right when AF is supposed to start. Try to take it easy and I bet Tuesday will be here before you know it!

symptoms I am about 6wks 5days - 7 wks 3days and was feeling so wonderful in the beginning and was so sick with dd from day 1. Well that has since ceased and I have already had more than my fair share of spending time with the toilet  I just have this sour stomach ALL the time with a horrid taste in my mouth. It is so funny because I had the worst baby blues with dd and was so sad she wasnt in my tummy anymore. I forgot about all of this ;) At least I could be thankful I dont have ssore bbs this time!
May I join over here? I like these boards soooo much better than the WC these days. I haven't yet caught up with this thread, but I will.

As I mentioned on the WC.....our first ultrasound was last week and we saw two sacs (they put back two embryos during the IVF process). I've had some spotting, however, so I'm not yet calling it as "twins" until we see two heartbeats.....which we hope to do on Friday at our next ultrasound (CANNOT WAIT).
Hopefully, if all is well on Friday, we'll be "released" to my regular OB (we're still under the care of an RE).
I had my first craving over the weekend (fried chicken) and my appetite had been HUGE for days (*everything* looked good). Then yesterday, NOTHING did. I survived on Triscuits and white rice. :)
Other symptoms: very sore bbs from the beginning (could be the progesterone shots I'm still taking, however). Gas/indigestion. Bouts of extreme fatigue, followed by periods when I feel completely normal.
TMI alert: I'm going to call my doctor today b/c I've been having some very frequent sharp pains in (what feels like) my cervix. Anyone else??? I've also had some brown discharge -- I hesitate to call it spotting because it doesn't look like blood at all. I think my RE likes getting these obstetrics-type questions (after all, I'm a success story for him), so I don't mind bugging him.
I'll have to catch up later with replies, but I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS to all of you!!! Two specific shout outs for now:
OMG, junkinmytrunk, I am so freakin' happy for you!!!! We've been living parallel TTC lives somewhat, and how funny is it that we're both going to be March mommas??
Oh, and HSSweethearts, a hearty congratulations to you, too! You don't know me by "this" name, but you know me by my "real" WC name from way back when..."katbride." :D Great to see you 'round again, and congratulations from an old friend!!!

Welcome JennW! How exciting! I hope we get lots more March Mommies.
I guess I'll answer some of the pending questions...
How did you tell DH?
On Friday night I had three different dreams about testing. I can't remember all of them perfectly but they were so real and I was pregnant in all of them. My heart was beating when I woke up on Saturday morning and I felt totally compelled to take a test.
I snuck off to the bathroom while DH was in bed and turned on the sink so that he couldn't hear me rustling around for the HPT boxes. I went directly for a digital test. I had never taken a digital test before, so it took me a minute to put it together and read the instructions. The test immediately said "Pregnant".
I have no patience so I ran back into the bedroom, pounced on the bed, turned to DH and said, "I have the most special surprise in the world for you, are you ready?"
He had no idea what was going on so I handed him the test. His eyes looked like they were going to pop out of his head. He was so happy.
"No way," he said. "We did it. It's for real. We are going to have our baby."
I started tearing and so did he. We held each other close for a long time. After that we had Sparkling Apple Cider for Breakfast with Waffles. :)
Symptoms?
I didn't realize these were symptoms until after I started reading one of my books this week. I've had heartburn, a tiny bit of circulation problems with my arm and vivid dreams. :) None of the typical ones like sore boobs or nausea.

Hoping I don't jinx myself with this response, but so far, so good. I haven't felt sick to my stomach, or had any real cravings or aversions from food. I'm still reallllly early in the process - so far my symptoms involve tender bbs (I've gone from only wearing a bra when absolutely, positively necessary to sporting a jog bra round the clock), a bit of dizziness, a very active bladder, and light cramping on and off. I also get a little sluggish in the afternoons, but I swear I was more tired before I found out I was pregnant - I went to bed at 8pm two nights in a row around 7-9 DPO.
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm looking forward to m/s, if only because it's considered a good sign that the pg is viable. When I feel good I don't feel actually pregnant, you know?
Boy, do I sincerely hope we are all rewarded with chunky babies for all this worry...crossables all kinds of crossed.

Heh. Well, we weren't exactly trying (we were taking some time off after our last m/c) but we're also the worst TTAers in the world. I'd been in denial most of last week when I was obviously late (I didn't chart last month but started temping at the end so I would know when AF was on her way--my temps never went down) but didn't test until last night and it came up right away. I went in for betas this morning and will know more by this afternoon.
No obvious symptoms: BBs feel fuller, but not sore; I'm starving all the time; mild backache; but the one that should have tipped me off was early waking. Normally, I can sleep in until the cows come home, but most of last week I was up at 5 and 6 and couldn't get back to sleep. The only other times that's happend was when I was pg.

I got my BFP on July 4th, but it was so light, yadda yadda yadda. I went for a beta on Friday and it came back 150 (I was 14-16dpo). My doctor thought that was a little low, so he wanted me to do a repeat beta today. I just got the results and they are 941. So they more than doubled every 48 hours.
I didn't do a beta-HCG with my 1st pregnancy so I was suprised he wanted to do it this time. The wait nearly killed me. It totally killed my productivity at work.

I just made my first pre-natal appointment for August 4. The place I chose doesn't see pregnant women until 8-10 weeks. I make this face:  . However, I will really only be 7w3d (knock on wood) by then (appointment was based on lmp, natch). So hah I say!
Kinda throws a kink into my telling the family plan. So far, I have told only my DH, my two best girlfriends, a nosy checkout clerk at the supermarket, and, of course, everyone on the boards. I'm trying to hold off telling anyone else until I know if the kid is a keeper! (Mainly because my mother will tell the entire free world and, in the event - heaven forbid - that anything goes wrong, I'd prefer that the whole world not be in the loop, you know?) Not sure if I can make it until August 4, though. We'll see. I have to tell them before August 24 if everything is a go, since they are coming for a visit, and will certainly raise an eyebrow when they notice that I'm choosing seltzer over syrah.

Welcome kdotp and mom2amelia!
Thanks Katie!:) It’s wonderful to hear a great success story!
kpotp – Yay for your doctor’s appt. on Thursday! And yay for the confirmation. I’m sure that made you feel great. When will they give you your numbers? When you go in?
tunibell – I will be impressed if you can wait that long to tell everyone. I haven’t told anyone yet either (just got my BFP today) and I have no idea when I will. It’s so nerve-wracking isn’t it? I have to go to a few family parties this month and next as well. When I pass on the booze, they’re going to be suspicious!:D
Well I’m heading off of here to go home soon. One this is for certain about PG ---> it makes me do LOTS less work!:D:D:)
ETA: I better call my doctor to make my first PN appt. I have to go to a new doctor since we’ve moved and I’m too far away from my old OB. Hope this doesn’t get too complicated with transferring records and transferring my pre-natal blood tests, etc. I’m anxious to meet my new doctor (I’ve already chosen one) and see what he has to say. I’m also RH negative and I’m paranoid about that with the pregnancy and need to hear from a doctor what the real risks are.

mom2amelia and Dasha - Welcome and congratulations!!! It's great that we are getting more March Mommies. :)
Speaking of first appointments, they made mine for Monday, August 1. According to their calculations I am 5 weeks, but according to Babycenter.com and my cycle length, I am calculating just 4 weeks.
Even though it is going to be really hard, I decided I can wait the 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to tell our families, including my Mom. I've only told DH, all of you and one of my co-workers - who is a good friend and also started TTC this month.

I'm still feeling very nervous about this pregnancy - but posting here won't jinx everything, right?
My stats:
Me: Bernie
Age: 30
DH age: 34
Married: 1/03
TTC: 1/04
IVF #1: 6/05
Positive beta: 6/29/05
EDD: 3/8/06
We had our first ultrasound last week and saw two sacs - we go back on Friday to see if there are two heartbeats. I'm counting down the minutes until then!
So far- no real symptoms - other than being hungry all of the time. I haven't been able to stop eating for the past week and a half.
We haven't told anyone other than our immediate families and a few close friends who knew we were doing IVF - I'm hoping to keep it under wraps until the end of the first trimester (or until my colleagues start wondering why I have stopped drinking and stuffing myself with brie at firm functions :D ).
MIPG? - I've been lurking on the IVF boards for awhile and following your journey - and all that time I had no idea that I had also wasted many working hours lurking in your wedding journal! (Your wedding was just beautiful, by the way).
Congratulations to everyone -- I hope we all have a healthy 9 months in here together!

Welcome and congratulations to all the newcomers! :D
ajb What a beautiful ultrasound, you must be so relieved!
tunibell Thanks for posting that article. I have been obsessing about everything!
Symptoms My breasts have been really sore the last few days. I have had, quite literally, morning sickness - I wake up feeling nauseated but feel fine the rest of the day! But my main symptom is that I am exhausted!

QOTD:
Will you (or did you) have an ultrasound to date this pregnancy?
When I called my Dr this morning they said that I have to go for a blood test and if the numbers were high enough they would schedule an ultrasound to date the PG.
Not sure if this is b/c I am nursing so my cycles are really wacky or if this is standard with my OB. With my DS I had a different OB and they did an ultrasound at 6 weeks b/c I was spotting and stuff but not to date the PG.

Welcome to all new moms. Gosh.. this thread is moving so fast!
Tuni, thanks for the great article.
Had my first appt yesterday. They estimated I was 5w5d, so they only drew blood, gave me vitamins, a joyous pelvic exam and rescheduled me for next week for an u/s. They figured that by then I will be able to get heartbeat action, date the pregnancy, and just make sure that everything is progressing like its supposed too.
Symptons - mostly gas rather then naseau. Really... really tired!!!
EDD can this be updated to 03.09.2006, I was in the wrong year.
Another question, anyone thinking of working with a midwife? My husband is really encouraging me to search for a birth center type atmosphere, even a home birth rather then the traditional hospital.

I worked with a midwife at the beginning of my last pregnancy but I ended up with PIH and pre-e, so I was treated by a peri from 20 weeks on. I think its a good idea to research all the options and then you will have all the info to make a good decision both of yu are comfortable with :)
dating pg I dont think it is routine to do an u/s to date pg but I hear of many docs who do. I dont know if mine does since I also had tons of early u/s due to spotting, etc. It will be interesting to see!

Well, I just found out I have a UTI. I thought something was up when I woke up this morning and had this intense buring when I went to the bathroom. I called my OB but they wouldn't see my for my UTI until after my bloodwork comes back to confirm the PG. So, I had to call my family DR and squeeze in there but then my Dr had to call my OB to see what was safe to take while PG in the first trimester. I hate insurance companies!!! If they didn't need the bloodwork I could have just gone to my OB instead of everything taking twice as long b/c my regular Dr still had to confer with my OB.
What a pain (literally) this is and I really hate to take medicine while PG but then again I don't want to end up with a kidney infection!
Welcome to all the (many) newcomers!! Wow, this thread moves quickly!
I feel crappy today. No real way to describe it except "crappy." Went from huge appetite, wanting to eat EVERYTHING IN SIGHT over the weekend, to having zero appetite (and everything looking/sounding gross) on Monday. Same yesterday, same today. Some mild bouts with out-and-out queasiness, but no throwing up (knock on wood).
What I've been calling "spotting" is back (I've had it off and on since shortly after getting the positive beta), but I've finally decided to stop worrying about it. Not to be TMI, but it isn't very blood-like, and when I talked to my RE yesterday (cuz I was concerned about that + the shooting pains I'm getting in my cervix), he basically said that it's probably nothing. If it *is* a miscarriage or me losing one of the babies, there's absolutely nothing I can do about it anyway. So I'm just going to sit tight and wait for Friday's ultrasound before getting upset.
Went to see my endocrinologist this morning (I'm hypothyroid, so she's monitoring me pretty closely now that I'm pregnant) and my blood pressure was 85/56!!!!! The nurse took it three times because she couldn't believe it was correct. My blood pressure tends to be really low (100/65-70 is probably average for me), but that's by far the lowest it's been. My doctor said (and I've since read elsewhere) that bp decreases during early pregnancy, but I had no idea! I'm surprised I'm still walking. :)
QOTD doesn't apply to me (I did IVF, so we know exactly when these babies were conceived), but I thought I'd chime in that I happen to know that my OB doesn't routinely do u/s to date pregnancies. FWIW.
********
HSSweethearts: it's so wonderful to hear your news (and to have a place to "chat" again, since I've never managed to make the leap to LJ). So excited for you!!
junk, fingers, toes, arms, legs....basically everything that's crossable will be crossed (at least in spirit :D) for you!!!
Bernie, wow, I can't believe how similar our stories/dates are! We, too, are going in Friday for our first ultrasound and to confirm that it's indeed twins. I hope this week isn't dragging so badly for you!
(I cannot believe you remember my wedding journal -- are you really that much of a WC "old-timer"?? :D Anyway, thanks so much!).
Elenitsa, if this is a singleton pregnancy, I may decide to switch from my OB (who's been my GYN for years) to the midwife practice down the hall. I know two women who've used the midwives and have loved them. These particular midwives are on the "medicalized" side (they are affiliated with the hospital) but I'm definitely interested. If I'm having twins, however, I kinda doubt I'll bother since the risk of c/s is so much higher (and I don't even think the midwives would take me, at my age (37 at delivery time) and pregnant with multiples). So the short answer is that I'm waiting to find out how many I'm having before looking into it any further.
*********
Ugh. Starving hungry now. Must find something that sounds good to eat. So far, I've been limited to wheat toast with american cheese....
ceKathleen, I'm so sorry to hear about your UTI symptoms!! I cannot believe they're making you wait -- when will you know? That's not something you want to suffer through, and I know that UTIs are more common in pregnant women....so there MUST be something they can give you that is safe for pregnant women, right? Why can't they just give you that and be done with it? I hope you don't have to suffer unnecessarily for long!!!

I just called to make my first appointment! I’m so excited! I go in on July 25 at which point they say I’ll be 6 weeks. I don’t really understand how they count cause even counting from the day of my last MP I will only be 5W2D. Unless I’m doing this wrong. Can anyone explain? My last MP was on June 18. I don’t get it. Also, doesn’t cycle length effect it?
Another question: I asked them if I should be taking a pre-natal vitamin cause right now all I take are my one a day multi vitamin. They told me that is fine until they prescribe me something. Does that sound right?
So I don’t feel completely nauseous, I just feel like there is this lump sort of in the back of my throat that I cannot get rid of it at all! It’s kind of like nausea but difficult to explain. Other than that I am sooooooooooo tired. I swear when I get home from work all I want to do is sleep, sleep, sleep. Also I feel kind of pressure on my stomach. Weird.
I bought What to Expect When You’re Expecting and started reading it last night. It’s a plethora of great information. So far, I recommend it to everyone!
I took another HPT this morning hoping my line got darker, but it’s still pretty light. I don’t know why it has me so paranoid, but it does. I’m sure I’m being dumb. I’ll just take another test tomorrow morning. Silly me.
ce_Kathleen – Sorry about the UTI! That sucks! I hope the meds kick in soon and you feel better. Don’t worry about the medication. They wouldn’t have prescribed it if it wasn’t safe. Feel better soon.
MIPG? – You have a good attitude. I’m going to adopt that idea: No reason to worry cause there is nothing you can do. Good advice, thanks!:)

Hi everyone! Geez...this thread IS growing at lightning speed....yayyy!!!
Got back from Beta #2 --- no results till tomorrow AM --- will post as soon as I get 'em.
QOTD: As soon as I have something she can see, definitely will get an U/S for dating, but I'm 99% sure (I'm a charter) we conceived on 6/30.
Will pop back in a bit later....
Anyone feel like posting where they are from in the world? I'm from LA, CA.....curious if I have any local MTB in my part of the world....
Have a great day, preggos!!

DH: 31
Married: 4/03

We got to see the heartbeat too which was very exciting! That and the fact that the m/s hit a lot earlier and a LOT harder this time have our hopes up. This one better stick bcs I'm not sure I can go through how sick I was last week again. Even DH was nervous that I wouldn't want to have other kids. But the doctor put me on Zofran and while I'm still nauseaus 24/7 at least I'm not puking every hour.
Well, I will be back for SO's later on but I just wanted to join up and say hi and congrats to you all!

Oh, so many mommies!! I love it!!
QOTD #1: I charted this conception meticulously, so I'm pretty positive I conceived 6/27. But I love all tests, diagnostics, etc. - so whatever they wanna give me is just fine by me!
QOTD #2: After five years in Brooklyn, NY, we moved last November to San Francisco, CA. I loooooove California!
And now, for your reading pleasue, may I present to you a (very long) ditty I like to call Worst Telling Parents Story Ever:
Originally, DH and I wanted to wait until at least the first doctor's appointment showed everything was a-okay, or even until the beginning of the second trimester, to tell our folks. My thinking was that if anything went/goes wrong, the LAST thing I want is people calling me every hour asking "How ya feeling?" Which would totally happen. Also, I knew that swearing my mother to secrecy was not an option - she can't keep a secret no matter how much you beg. And I had these horrible daydreams that something would go wrong and I'd get sympathy cards from people who shouldn't have known in the first place. Shudder.
But....the day we got our HPT+, my MIL sent an e-mail to DH suggesting that she and FIL fly out for Christmas this year (both of our families live in New England). We didn't fly home for either Thanksgiving or Christmas last year, because we had just moved to San Francisco, and my mother was completely beside herself. Holidays are a big freakin' deal to her.
Since we knew that MIL was going to keep asking until she got an answer, and since we knew we weren't going to be able to fly home for Christmas anyhow (knock on wood), we decided the easiest thing would be to tell my folks we'd come home for Thanksgiving and that the ILs would fly to us for Christmas. That way, everyone gets a little piece of us at the holidays.
Well, this went over like a lead balloon. My mother's first reaction was "Well, that sucks!" followed by an outraged "How come the IL's get Christmas?" Then she got all cold and distant and gave me the "Well, it's your life, do whatever you want." Then she handed me off to my dad, which is what she always does when I have told her something she doesn't want to hear.
So, despite the fact that I was royally p-oed that she acted like a complete and total baby, I really didn't want her thinking that she was second choice at the holidays, especially since she's made it ABUNDANTLY clear in the past how much it means to her to have the whole family home for Christmas. So I convinced DH that we might as well just tell the immediate family (only) and get it over with.
My mom was apparently still smarting from the perceived Thanksgiving slight, because the only question she asked was - "When did you find out?" When I honestly answered Friday, she totally clammed up - and handed me over to my father, who was thrilled. My mother never said congratulations - nothing. And she loves babies - my nephews are the loves of her lives. She was just irked that I hadn't told her right away. (By the way, dear reader, if you are thinking, wow, tunibell, what a self-centered b your mother is...well, you wouldn't be wrong.)
As soon as I got off the phone I burst into tears and sobbed for the next five minutes straight. Apparently my dad was so angry at the way my mother behaved (oh, and the fact that she immediately sent an e-mail to one of her friends even though i pleaded with her not to tell anyone outside the family) that he stormed out of the house. Bad scene all around.
AND THEN...we call my MIL, who kept saying "it's so early" and then told me that "almost everyone has at least one miscarriage." Sweet. FIL was very excited. So the long and short of this is: Dads: 2, Moms: 0.

Even though I'm 38 and conceived via interuterine insemination with injectibles, I am planning to see a midwife. My first appointment is on August 8, when I will be just over 10 weeks pregnant. When I spoke with the office, I was told that neither my age, nor the way I conceived would be an impediment to seeing the midwives.
Even though conception was not "natural," I really want this pregnancy to have as little medical interference as possible.
kdotp
07-13-2005, 01:15 PM
qotd 1 The OB practice I now go to doesn't see patients until 10-12 weeks, so probably no early u/s to date, unless they decide to do so because of my two previous miscarriages.
qotd 2 Haven't even thought that far in advance yet. My only goal right now is to make it past the first trimester.
qotd 3 Iowa.
DH and I booked a trip to London, England for New Year's after our last m/c since we were supposed to be taking a break from TTC until January. As the trip is non-refundable, non-transferrable, we're still planning on going. I'll [hopefully] be around 29 weeks by that time and I believe most Doctors (and airlines) will allow pregnant women to fly up until around 32-34 weeks. I may not be the most comfortable, but by gosh we're going!

Welcome to the newest March Mommies! I love all the action in this thread.
ajb524 & aprilshowers - Those are some beautiful ultrasounds! It gives all of us something to look forward to!
ce_Kathleen - I hope your UTI goes away soon. It's yucky that you even have to deal with it AND the doctors.
tunibell - Oh no! It amazes me how much people make things about them sometimes. I'm sure the Mom's will come around and make everything OK. :(
MIPG - Your blood pressure is unbelievable. I didn't realize it goes down when you are PG. I'm going to check mine tonight out of curiosity! Please take good care of yourself. I'm glad you are focusing on the positive and taking things day by day.
So many of you are expecting big news tomorrow and Friday. Make sure to check back in right away with your results so as not to keep the rest of us in suspense OK? We are all in this together right? :)
QOTD 1: I will have my ultrasound at my first appointment on Aug. 1. I will be 8 weeks and will get the definitive due date then. I will also get to hear the heartbeat I hope!
QOTD 2: Re: midwives, I haven't really thought that far yet and I need to research the different options. I've heard that the ones at my practice are great, so I'll see.
QOTD 3: I'm in the ATL - Atlanta, Georgia that is. Looks like we are really from all over the country.
I went ahead and ordered a ton of books off of Amazon since we had an unused gift certificate to burn. I went to Borders first to look through them so that helped narrow down the choices. It's funny because I've heard that people either love or hate What to Expect When You’re Expecting. So I didn't buy it just yet.

tunibell - I'm so sorry about how your mom acted. I can't imagine how awful I would feel if my mom treated me that way.
Well my bleeding has started back again today :(. I'm going to be anxiously awaiting the next ultrasound. HOpefully I will be far enough along to see the heartbeat.
My symptoms so far. I've been really tired with sore bb's. I haven't been sick, but I did get a little nauseous when we were eating Mexican the other night and the table behind us ordered some kind of fish dish. To be honest I think the fishy smell would have made me nauseous with or without being PG.
Edited to add: I'm from Athens, GA. HSSweethearts- looks like we are neighbors :D

Sorry that I forgot to answer the other 2 QOTD.
Since I know exactly when I conceived since this pregnancy was achieved through interuterine insemination, there's no reason to have a u/s specifically to date the pregnancy. Plus, the due date is a guesstimate at best and very few women actually give birth on that day.
I'm from the Chicago suburbs. I was born and raise on the North Shore, attended college and graduate school on the East Coast (Providence, RI for college and then NYC for grad school), worked in Washington, DC for 5 years and then moved back to Chicago, where I will probably live until we're ready to retire and possibly considering another area of the country.

Wow, this thread is flying! I can't keep up.
QOTD 1 - my practice does an U/S on the first visit, but I'm not sure it's to date the pregnancy as much as it is to make sure everything looks fine. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
QOTD 2 - I'd love to use a midwife, but there are no free-standing birth centers in Ohio (that I'm aware of) and I've been through so much with my OB, that I don't really want to leave now anyway. The practice I go to does have midwives that deliver at the hospital, so that's an option I might consider. I will definitely use a doula this time.
QOTD 3 - I live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, but I am originally from Washington, DC.
ajb524 - I hope the bleeding stops soon. How scary. Sore boobs and exhaustion are good signs though that everything is just fine.
tunibell - Sorry your mother didn't give you the warm response you were probably hoping for. Good for your dad, and FIL, though.
ce-Kathleen - UTIs suck. I'm sorry you got one. I hope it clears up fast. It's ridiculous what you had to go through to get treated though.
I hope everyone who's suffering with MS finds some relief soon. I have been spared, so far. I have very mild nausea when I first wake up and then when I haven't eaten for awhile, but it's really mild. So far this pregnancy is just like it was with my DD. Around 6 weeks last time I started to feel queasy all day every day and that lasted until the end of my 1st trimester. We'll see if history repeats itself.
Wow - I just posted this morning, and already this thread has grown by two pages!!!
I just had to say:
BEAUTIFUL ULTRASOUND, aprilshowers?? Can I ask how far along you were then? I'm curious b/c your RE gave you the same due date that I figured out ours was (using some on-line calculator), and that u/s looks a lot more "advanced" than just shy of six weeks! :)
tunibell, oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's reaction!! That just ruins what would otherwise be a wonderful moment. Thank god the fathers handled it so well!!!

QOTD - Dating ultrasound My doctor's office doesn't routinely do this, I won't get one until I'm 18 weeks. But my LMP was pretty normal and I was charting and all that, so I can tell you exactly when we conceived, so there's no need to date my pregnancy. (Although I wish there was, I'd love an ultrasound!)
QOTD - Midwives My practice has two OB/GYNs and two CNM's. My first appointment is with one of the OB/GYNs, but the nurse who did my intake suggested I might want to have an appointment with all of them at some point in my pregnancy so that I meet all of them - because whoever's on call will be the one delivering my baby!
QOTD - Location I live in southern New Hampshire.

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well - especially those of you who are already facing bouts of m/s.
No m/s here yet - just constant hunger and fatigue (although I am generally tired - so I'm not sure what can be attributed to work/not getting enough sleep and what is pregnancy related).
I'm currently reading What to Expect When Your're Expecting and The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy. I had read somewhere (probably on these boards) that What to Expect tries to scare you a bit and tends to treat pregnancy like a disease. I can see that, but it is also chock full of information, which is great. The Girlfriends' Guide is not as informative, but it is pretty funny and a quick read - and definitely a good source of answers to questions you may be too embarrassed to ask your doctor and/or friends. I also have a stack of books a friend of mine gave me, but I have been pretty unimpressed with them (and for the life of me, cannot remember their titles).
Still feeling a little anxious about tomorrow's ultrasound. I know there is no reason to think that the pregnancy just went away somehow without me noticing, but that's the irrational fear I have been dealing with all week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are still two sacs there - and that we get to see the heartbeat. MIPG - I think your next ultrasound is tomorrow - I'll be keeping my crossables crossed for you too!
Oh - and in response to yesterday's question -- I'm in NE NJ (just outside of NYC). Another lovely humid and muggy day here! (Jenn - I think that almost makes us neighbors?)
Hope everyone has a great day!

Yay! Welcome red_canuck! I've seen you around the old boards and am vaguely familiar with your story. I'm so happy that you are joining us.
Elenitsa - Those books sound so interesting. I would love to hear how you like them when you're done. I feel like my list shows what a pregnancy newbie I am next to yours! :D
I already had the free Mayo Clinic Book from when that thread was going around years ago. I pulled and dusted it off the top hidden shelf of my home office closet after getting my BFP on Saturday. It is very text bookish, but I've actually enjoyed it so far because it has so much useful medical info. I figured this could go in place of What to Expect for now.
My Amazon order should arrive today, here's what I got:
For information:
Your Pregnancy Week by Week, Fifth Edition
The Pregnancy Journal: A Day To Day Guide To A Healthy And Happy Pregnancy
Baby Bargains: Secrets to Saving 20% to 50% on Baby Furniture, Equipment, Clothes, Toys, Maternity Wear, and Much, Much More!
Your Perfectly Pampered Pregnancy: Beauty, Health, and Lifestyle Advice for the Modern Mother-to-Be
For fun:
The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy
Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth
For DH:

Not books, but it was included in my order:

Edited to add: ajb524 - Glad to have a neighbor and another Georgia girl in here. :)

Morning, Ladies! Hope everyone is doing well today. I saw this on another ATF Group and can completely relate - already! Thought you all might enjoy it, as well. Have a great day and take care.
Being A Mom
We are sitting at lunch one day when my daughter casually mentions
that she and her husband are thinking of "starting a family."
"We're taking a survey," she says half-joking. "Do you think I should have a baby?"
"It will change your life," I say, carefully keeping my tone neutral.
"I know," she says, "no more sleeping in on weekends, no more spontaneous
vacations."
But that is not what I meant at all. I look at my daughter, trying to decide what to tell her. I want her to know what she will never learn in childbirth classes.
I want to tell her that the physical wounds of child bearing will heal, but becoming a mother will leave her with an emotional wound so raw that she will forever be vulnerable. I consider warning her that she will never again read a newspaper without asking, "What if that had been MY child?"
That every plane crash, every house fire will haunt her! That when she sees pictures of starving children, she will wonder if anything could be worse than watching your child die.
I look at her carefully manicured nails and stylish suit and think that no matter how sophisticated she is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the primitive level of a bear protecting her cub. That an urgent call of "Mom!" will cause her to drop a souffle or her best crystal without a moment's hesitation.
I feel that I should warn her that no matter how many years she has invested in her career, she will be professionally derailed by motherhood. She might arrange for childcare, but one day she will be going into an important business meeting and she will think of her baby's sweet smell. She will have to use every ounce of discipline to keep from running home, just to make sure her baby is all right. I want my daughter to know that every day decisions will no longer be routine. That a five year old boy's desire to go to the men's room rather than the women's at McDonald's will become a major dilemma. That right there, in the midst of clattering trays and screaming children, issues of independence and gender identity will be weighed against the prospect that a child molester may be lurking in that restroom.
However decisive she may be at the office, she will second-guess herself
constantly as a mother. Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure her that eventually she will shed the pounds of pregnancy, but she will never
feel the same about herself. That her life, now so important, will be of
less value to her once she has a child. That she would give herself up in a moment to save her offspring, but will also begin to hope for more years, not to accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child accomplish theirs.
I want her to know that a cesarean scar or shiny stretch marks will become badges of honor. My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way she thinks. I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child. I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again for reasons she would now find very unromantic. I wish my daughter could sense the bond she will feel with women throughout history who have tried to stop war, prejudice and drunk driving.
I want to describe to my daughter the exhilaration of seeing your child learn
to ride a bike. I want to capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who is touching the soft fur of a dog or cat for the first time. I want her to taste the joy that is so real it actually hurts.
My daughter's quizzical look makes me realize that tears have formed in my
eyes. "You'll never regret it," I finally say. Then I reached across the table, squeezed my daughter's hand and offered a silent prayer for her, and for me, and for all the mere mortal women who stumble their way into this most wonderful of callings.

Hello ladies! WOW! This thread is just crazy! I can’t believe how fast it grows. It’s def difficult to keep up with. This is fun! Let’s hope our pregnant bellies grow as fast as these pages! Has anyone started Baby Journals or are you just going to continue to post updates in here. I’m considering starting one, but trying not to get too sucked in (yet).
As for reading, I’ve heard that Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy is good. I also saw a funny one called Pregnancy Sucks. They have one for moms to be and one for dads to be. I flipped through it at the store and it looked funny. DH was laughing at some of the stuff.
I also joined the site: http://www.babyfit.com/. It’s great for giving nutritional, exercise and general health and fitness advice. And it’s free.
Took another test this morning. Darker still.:)
QOTD: Has anyone decided to subscribe to any pg magazines, etc. I was thinking about it but don’t know if it’s a waste of time or any are worthwhile.
tunibell – OMG. I am so sorry with the reactions of the moms. You MIL reaction was so mean. I’m sure your mother’s didn’t make you feel great either.:( At least the dads were great!:D
ajb524 – Sorry to hear the bleeding is back. Did you talk to your OB about it? I’m sure all is fine. Try not to worry too much (as if that is possible for any of us, but still try and stay somewhat relaxed!):)
RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - I cannot believe you’re in here! YAY! Congrats to you! So happy to go through this with an old friend. Same wedding date and close due dates! How exciting this is. I haven’t *seen* you around the boards in awhile. I stopped hanging at WC all the time (but was still there once in a while), especially after that *fake* journaler we were both friends with. Happy to see you on CC. This site seems awesome so far. Yay again and WELCOME!!!:D
Elenitsa – That’s quite a reading list you’ve got there. Make sure to tell us which ones are good or not! Sorry about the m/s.
Bernie – I agree [U]What to Expect When You’re Expecting[/B] seems a little bit of a downer at times, but I still love it because of all the info it has! Yep, looks like we’re neighbors. I used to live in NE, NJ (Essex County). We moved out (and up?) to Sussex (on the Morris border) last year. Yay for the Jersey March Mommas!
Happy Thursday everyone!:p

Welcome and congrats Red!! :D We're so happy you're here with us!
Oh man, that had me tearing up, too. I'm pretty emotional as it is, but the pg hormones have kicked everything into high gear.
So, not only do I have early morning waking, I now have insomnia. I think I slept about 4 hours last night
The only book I have is the big, fat Mayo Clinic book you can get free from State Farm. Honestly, I don't even know if I will buy any books. I can borrow What To Expect from my sister and any others I'll check out from the Library. Like I said, my only goal right now is to make it to the second trimester. Maybe after that I'll feel differently.
Prenatal History visit this afternoon! I can't wait. I'm hoping they will bump up my first visit a few weeks.

Hi guys! you'll have to forgive me, it's bee a long time sine I've been a part of a group, and doing replies are just a little beyond me right now, but I'll try!
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! I am beyond excited to be here!! I still can't believe I am finally pregnant! I can't wait to hear back about my blood test either, and hear the beautiful numbers! (cause they will be beautiful, if I have to write them myself ;) lol)
I am super thrilled to see so many familiar faces in here :)
Jenn! I just can't believe you're here! I am giddy withe xcitement that we get to do this together too! I also dropped off WC in the end, i'm mostly on LJ, but i figured this place will be good for my baby obsession ;)
QOTD - i've been collecting pg books for 2 years, so I have quite the supply. I brought them out yesterday and loved reading them. I have:
Belly Laughs
the Mayo book
What to expect
the pregnancy calendar
a random preg. journal
Girlfriend's guide
as well as wuite a few on infertility and high-risk pregnancies. I have a few good fiction ones too, my fav being "Diary of a mad mom-to-be" which I have read a gazillion times and will re-read today! Def. a must read if you want somethign light and fluffy.

....please forgive an intrusion from a Nov 05 Mommie to be....
....but Alanna (Lana from WC TTC w/ charting thread) mentioned in our thread that she'd seen Red_Canuck join up over here and I had to come and say CONGRATULATIONS!! That's wonderful! And I noticed a few other TTC w/ charting names on the members list, aprilshowers and Elenitsa and probably others, also, wonderful news! With all the board confusion in the last few weeks I haven't been following the TTC w/ charting thread, but I'm so happy to see all those BFPs! Congratulations to all the new mommies in this thread!

Woohoo! Welcome red and shannon!! I'm so happy for you guys!
Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome and congrats!
red, I think it depends on how close you are to the boyfriend and what you feel comfortable doing. Obviously he'll get the news too w/ your mom's gift so it's just a matter of whether you want or you think he'd expect something separate for him too.
honey_bee, you totally had me bawling too. Thanks for posting.
elenitas, B6 is supposed to help w/ m/s. My nurse told me to take 50mg twice a day. Hope the switch helps you feel better!
MIPG, the u/s tech said it was measuring 6w1d. I had pegged it to be 6w2d based on my ovulation date so it definitely wouldn't have been more than that. In case I haven't congratulated you already, congrats! It is great to see you in here!
ajb, how are you doing? I hope the spotting has stopped. Has the doctor given you any indication as to what might be causing it? Sending positive vibes your way...
tunibell, I'm so sorry the moms behaved badly. I especially can't believe your MIL would say what she said. I am sure they will eventually come around but for now just focus on how excited you and your DH are and the wonderful memories you're making together.
Okay, I don't know which QOTD is which anymore but let me see if I can cover them all:
--I live in Boston though am originally from NJ.
--Not considering a midwife. I love the concept but I am such a wimp when it comes to pain and I know I'm going to be a nervous wreck anyway so I think I'll be most comfortable in a hospital (as much as it pains me to say that).
--I am apparently way behind in the book department since I have nothing except "Your Vegetarian Pregnancy" which I picked up after my first pg last year. Haven't reread any of it yet this time. I will probably wait until after the first tri to really get into pregnancy books.
--Haven't subscribed to any pg magazines - not sure whether I will or not.
Hope you all are having a great day!

QOTDs:
-I live in a suburb of Kansas City (on the Kansas side)
-At this point, I'm not considering a m/w
-I just ordered subscriptions to American Baby and Parenting last month(although I've only received 1 issue of Parenting thus far and 0 issues of AB)
-I have the Mayo Clinic book but haven't really looked through it all that much yet, other than to find out my due date according to their chart. I just ordered the 2005 ed. of Baby Bargains from half.com so I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. That's all I have so far in the area of books.

Hi all! I’m so happy to see this thread expanding. Lots of March mommies!
Congrats Junk! That is AWESOME news!!! So happy for you!:D
tunibell – I am a pretty regular exerciser and would like to keep it up throughout PG (Although I wish I would have lost a bit more weight before PG but I slacked off:)) I walk every day (at least 30-45 minutes). I usually do yoga a few times a week so I’d like to get some good prenatal yoga DVDs (or classes). I’d also like to hear about any other workout dvds, etc. if anyone knows of any good ones. I have an elliptical that I use a lot but I haven’t since finding out we’re expecting b/c I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Anyone know? Good QOTD!

Yay Junk! It's a great feeling, isn't it? I got my repeat betas back on Tuesday and it was one of the happiest days of my life.
Welcome Red and Shannon
QOTD - I exercised pretty regulary until now (run 16-20 miles a week) but I'm worried about overheating, so I've scaled back the exercise a little. I'm walking now, about 3-4 miles/4 times a week. I jog a little during each walk, and I walk at a decent pace 15min/mile, but I'm not going all out. I'll also do prenatal yoga like I did last time. It's THE BEST! My OB said that it was totally fine to keep running, but it makes me nervous. I did not work out at all with my daughter and I gained a tremendous amount of weight that I had a terrible time getting off. I won't let that happen this time. I figure the walking is something I can do throughout the whole pregnancy. Running would have to stop eventually, I think.

That's fabulous news Junk! (hee I still get a kick out of that) Fingers crossed for Monday's Betas!
qotd I try and walk our dog twice a day for 45-60 min. and we move at a pretty fast clip, but it's been so hot out lately I haven't gotten two walks in. I think I'd like to try prenatal yoga, but would have to do it from DVDs.

congratulations Junk! I don't knwo if you remember or not, but was it you who I talke dto on LJ about 4 months ago about having to go BCP's to reduce our cysts? Well, we said we'd check up on each other, so I guess we have So happy for you :D
QOTD - I exercise daily by doing 45 minutes of aqaufit and 15 minutes of laps. I love it, and will continue to do it through the pgncy. it's too much fun to give up :D
-Also, I live just west of Toronto, Ontario
-Still deciding mw/ob, but will probably go ob because i like the extra medical reassurance.

07-14-2005, 01:22 PM
Yay Lisa !!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!!! That is absolutely wonderful news!!! :D :D
Excercising: I'll be the first to admit I'm not a consistent exceriser. I belong to Curves but I've slacked off recently. I was kinda scared to go during the 2ww as I didn't want to "bump" any implantation loose (I know that's not really possible but I wanted to take every precaution necessary!) I'll probably start going again within the next day or two. I've heard there's a heartrate that pg women are not supposed to exceed while excercising...do any of you know what that rate is?
tunibell
07-14-2005, 01:29 PM
Regarding the heart rate restrictions: you'll read in a lot of places that it is 140, but apparently that is a totally unproven figure. And as anyone who exercises regularly can tell you, 140 is not exactly pushing yourself. A better indicator is rate of perceived exhaustion - as i understand it, exercise should me moderately hard during pregnancy, and you should never get to a state of breathlessness.
I say all of this with confidence but must admit I've been scared of my treadmill ever since the first HPT+. I have to do something soon though - I've gained 1.2 lbs since Monday (assuming a lot of that is bloat, but still). I've been trying very hard to follow the eating guidelines from Eating Well When You Are Expecting, but it's a lot of food for someone my size (5'1")!
Completely off-topic, but...is anyone else but me ridiculously excited that Harry Potter 6 is coming out tomorrow night? I might be so engrossed that I forget to worry all weekend!

WOW this thread has moved so fast!
Welcome to everyone new! I can't believe there are so many of us March mommies!
Just wanted to update on my UTI, took 3 doses of antibiotics yesterday and 2 so far today and I feel much better! YAY :)
QOTDs:
books, well since DS is only 11 months I am still pretty current but I am using my what to expect again as well as my week by week guide to see what the bean is up to. I do recommend the baby bargains book, it helped me to realize that I didn't have to buy everything in the store!
MW/OB, again since its my 2nd DC I am sticking with my same OB that I had for DS. I would love to go to a MW but there aren't any near by, plus since DS was breech and was a scheduled c-section I may be having another section which would necessitate an OB
exercise, I try to take DS on a walk every day or now that we bought a bike trailer I try to take a bike ride daily. But DS gets antsy now that he is crawling/walking so the longest I can contain him for a walk/ride is about 25/30 minutes

First of all - I'm so happy and relieved for you Junk. That is awesome news, congrats!
ShannonGH - Welcome and congrats! You are so freaking lucky to have a friend who is an ultrasound tech. Does that mean you can sneak in and get them more often?! Your DH's birthday and announcement to him is just perfect. Can't wait to hear how it goes.
March mommas, we are gonna rock this house DOWN!
I totally agree with this Red! :D
Re: Exercise - I am the worst exerciser ever - as in I don't do any. Unfortunately exercise has taken a backburner to my work over the last 3 years and I've gained about 15 lbs since my wedding. I want to have a healthy pregnancy so I bought those prenatal DVD's and I am determined to do them. I really hate the idea of gaining extra weight, but I guess it is inevitable huh?

Wow! Congrats, junk! That is what mine was on 15DPO so you are passing with flying colors (this was 13DPO, right?)! When do you get your first u/s?
QOTD, my main form of exercise these days is moving from my bed to my desk to the couch. I'm hoping the m/s goes away soon so I can get back to the gym where I will do the elliptical, treadmill, weights and yoga (my pre-pg workout). Both my doctor and a trainer at my gym (who had just had a child) said that there is no reason to limit exercise at this point. I have heard the rule of limiting your heartrate to 140 but have read elsewhere that it is 150 (and doc said no need to limit at all). The only thing you have to worry about is if you're working out outside and it is really hot out. Also, always make sure you're well-hydrated even if it isn't hot.
I feel like my muscles are congealing... :(

HSSweethearts, yes I am VERY lucky to have a friend that's an u/s tech! She's all about me coming in whenever and getting an ultrasound. The only bad part is that her office is 35 minutes away so it's not like I can just drop in whenever I want. That's actually a good thing (or she'd probably be sick of me ;) )
aprilshowers, I'm so sorry that you're having such bad m/s. I hope you feel better soon. {{{{{Hugs}}}}

QOTD - I've been on exercise restrictions because of the IVF cycle, and it has been driving me crazy. I was told I could exercise lightly if I kept my heart rate down between 110-120 - which is pretty darn difficult. I've been alternating between walking outside and on the treadmill at the gym, where I can monitor my heart rate. I also bought a pre natal yoga DVD, which is pretty good (I'm not really a yoga person though). I'm looking forward to having these restrictions lifted, although if I am having twins - I doubt I will really be allowed to start running again. (But it will be well worth it!)
Completely off-topic, but...is anyone else but me ridiculously excited that Harry Potter 6 is coming out tomorrow night? I might be so engrossed that I forget to worry all weekend!
Yes!!! I am looking forward to moving the pregnancy books aside to make room for Harry!

Hi ladies! Junk Great news on the BETAs! I hope they skyrocket!!!
QOTD re: location - Northern NJ
QOTD I have been pretty lame on the fitness, b/c of a lower back issue that technically should be greater reason for me to work out. Mostly I ride an excercise bike, even if rather lazily just to get the muscle stronger and a few stretching excercises. I really must get more disciplined about doing all of it becuase I know it will have a big impact on my pregnancy.
M/s is not present today. I really think the vitamins have major impact on it. Thanks aprilshowers for the tip on B6.
I'm so peeved. I did find a few midwives who practice in my area, i haven't made any appointments, but apparently I need to get a referral from a primary to see a midwife, but not for ob-gyn. Isn't that one of the more silly insurance red tape scenerios... Managed health care is SO wonderful! Can you smell the sarcasm??
Bernie

Good morning!
Just got back from my RE appointment - everything looked good! Two sacs each measuring 6w1d - which is exactly where we should be. Then we got to see and hear the heartbeats! It was absolutely amazing - I didn't cry, but my eyes definitely welled up a bit.
Here are the little guys:

I'm sure that in three days I will be panicking again, but it is nice to know that at least for now, everything is okay.
Good luck to everyone else who has appointments today!
