My strapping 16 pound cat is FIV positive- that is like HIV, but for cats. Although many cats live a long time with the disease in dormancy, it can easily flare up at any time and they can go down hill very quickly.
He is fine now, but as we are planning a very stressful move in a year and he is getting up there in age, I thought I would start a support thread for those of us dealing with serious health problems. When MacKenzie dies I know I will be inconsolable for a long time, and when his FIV becomes AIDS I will probably need a lot of support!
So perhaps it is a bit morose to start this now, but I figured it would be better to try to find other people in similar positions now versus the day after the vet delivers the bad news.
I'm crazy about my kitty!
If you don't have an ill pet, have you heard of pet health insurance? Have you thought about it? Do you have it?
