jennapeach - So cute!! How did you get her to pose like that? My wiggle worm wouldn't stay still for two seconds in her 6 mos portraits. Where did you get that tub? I am ready for DD to move out of her infant tub!

halloween costume - Haven't bought it yet. I will soon, I just want to make sure she'll fit into it by the time halloween gets here. She seems to be growing so fast.

DS will be the shark from Babystyle : )

No words yet, although we think DS says hi as well :)

Wow, it has been so long since I've had time to check in here! What with madly juggling work-at-home and Annika, I barely have a second to breathe during the day. But she starts three days a week day care on Tuesday, (Tuesday through Thursdays), so hopefully my juggling act will become a little less insane.

Annika will be 7 months old tomorrow and is changing so fast I can hardly keep up with her. She's crawling at top speed now, very interested in pulling herself up to stand (thoug not doing it yet), and as of last week now pulls herself into a sitting position and stays there. (She's been sitting when plopped on her butt for awhile now, but getting there herself is a new trick.)

Here's one of her latest pics: http://static.flickr.com/85/232268269_2db1fbc2a1.jpg?v=0

Let me try to catch up on some of the current discussion topics:

Bedtime routine: We've finally settled into a good one. Around 6:15, she gets her dinner (usually about half a container of Gerber veggies and half a container of fruit). We then have quiet play for a little while, and she gets a bath about 7ish. Then lotion, PJs, and I read her two or three books while I give her her last bottle. DH gets home at 7:30 so I try to make sure that she's not quite down to bed before he gets home. He'll usually give her the last part of her bottle and play her lullaby CD ('Til Their Eyes Shine--it's so lovely!) and then she's down.

She's a really good bedtime sleeper--may fuss a little trying to get in her preferred position, but very easy to put down. She will wake up for a bottle about 1 night of every 3 at this point, but sucks it down and goes right back down again.

Naptimes are a little harder. She used to sack out very easily in her swing, now it's more of a fight. She absolutely will not nap if there are many other people around; she's quite the social butterfly and hates to miss a thing. Her morning nap is usually around 10 am-11 or 11:30, and it's worked out well because now I go to a gym with a nursery. I get there around 8:30, work out until 9:30ish while she's in the nursery, and then we drive home. It's a little ways from my house, so it's about a 20 minute drive and she sacks out in the car. I tote her in in the SnugRide and put her down in our bedroom, and she usually stays out for a good hour to hour and a half.

The afternoon nap is more challenging. She doesn't really like to nap in her crib, though she has from time to time. I usually put her down in her swing, and get about 10-15 minutes of either "social" noises, fussing, or a combination thereof before she sacks out.

Sometimes she'll have a third nap--it just depends on how long her previous naps were. I'm still trying to follow the Weissbluth rule of the two-hour window of wakefulness, but I think it's about time that starts stretching out a little bit. Does anyone know at what age they're supposed to move to a longer wakeful time?

Car seat: We just bought her big-girl car seat today--the Britax Marathon. She was almost 16 pounds at her last ped's appointment, and I'm sure she's close to 17 by now, so the SnugRide is on its last legs. I think we're going to wait to start using it until after we come back from a trip to CA in mid-September though; I'm not ready to figure out toting this thing through airports yet. (Anyone who's done that--how hard is it? I've just gotten used to the SnugRide!)

Words: Nope. There has been some dadadadada, but clearly not directed. Not a hint of mamamama yet, darn it all. Though we both swear that this afternoon she was trying very hard to wave back at us.

Halloween costume: She's going to be a parrot--DH will be a pirate and I'm going to be a pirate wench. ;)

LOVE everyone's pictures!!

Such cute babies ladies! I love seeing photos...

Whew. We are back from yet another whirlwind weekend away from home. We traveled back to our home town to have Meredith baptised and to attend a wedding. Both were lovely events. And our little one cut her first tooth! It was a fun weekend but sleeping and naps are almost non-existent on the road...a bit tired here!

Snapfish Issues Is it just me or is anyone else having problems posting snapfish pictures?

Nevermind - I see that Snapfish has quick hotlinking. Darn it! Yet another username and password to remember...

Not a very good picture, but here is the little one getting ready for her baptism. She didn't even try to rip her necklace off!

Ladies, we have officially jumped into the world of table/finger food. Jeremiah is mastering his pincer grasp and loving the Gerber puffs he can now feed himself. I've also given him chunks of avocado and he enjoys mashing and chewing it. I'm looking forward to ditching baby food and I think he is too. In other news I've been back to work for 3 days and J. is thankfully having no problems or any sort of separation anxiety with his babysitter. Today I forgot to send a an extra set of socks with him and apparently he kicked one off when his babysitter was out with him in the carrier. It was totally pouring later in the day so it would have been horrible for him to go home barefooted. Luckily she found an extra pair that had been her daughters. Too bad they were pink! So by poor boy had to come home wearing pink socks with the blue and green track suit he had on! I commute with him on the bus and train and people must have been wondering, boy/girl hmmm?

Finger foods- Caedan oves those puffs too! He had corn bread last night and was in heaven LOL

We are doing the foods here and there lately. Since we were gone last weekend he seems very clingy. He hardly eats, just wants to nurse. I must say I am tired from it, it has made his sleeping schedule fly out the window. Lately we are up 4-5 times a night. I am a wreck!

Aside from that Caedan has been pulling himself up on the furniture and trying to walk. But for some reason if he stands at the baby gate he forgets how to sit down and cries LOL

He has also decided to make the funniest faces lately. And he breaths fast and heavy. It's alomost like breathing through labor HAHA I snapped a couple pics and have to share a couple. Along with a cute one of him and Jason we got this weekend :)

Hi ladies! I have a LOT to catch up on! I still follow along here, but haven't posted much in a while. Seems I barely have enough time to do anything these days...we are teething here, so Ian's had some rough days lately. So far we have 2 bottom incisors, and it looks like he'll cut his upper right canine next!

Other than that, things are going pretty well. Work is tiring, but I'll survive. I am just feeling super burnt out lately--I've only had one day off since returning from maternity leave, which was on Feb. 27! I need a vacation so badly---even if I just sit home and do NOTHING. But I'm still building my time back up, I used up ALL my vaca time to have Ian, since we don't have maternity leave. It's frustrating...

Ian's starting with the finger foods too. He likes to gum on zwieback toast, and recently I added chicken to his evening meal. I pureed a cooked chicken breast in the food processor, and mixed a small bit in with Ian's veggies--it looked gross, but I guess Ian liked it! At first I think he was unsure of the texture, but he's had it a few times now.

Here's a recent picture of both of the 'boys'--Ian is absolutely enthralled with our dog. They look mighty guilty here!

Hey ladies,
Man did I forget this thread exist? My goodness look at all of the cute babies!!

Ashley is 8 months now and is crawling and getting into everything. She is eating cheerios and Gerber puffs I sometimes give her pieces of banana, bread and let her lick a popsicle. She is not taking to the sippy cup AT ALL. She pulls herself up but if I try to hold her hands so she can walk she wants to sit down.

As far as talking she is saying da da and ba ba, I also taught her to give a kiss on the cheek by saying kiss-kiss ans she starts puckering up or will put her cheek to your lips so you can kiss her.

She has a very strong personality and shows her dislike by grunting and growling at you LOL!! My DH says she is the spitting image of me

I know that parents are proud of their kids and some just have this thing where they must compare but this chick at work who has a 14 yr old and 2yr old twins has just plucked my nerves. I was saying that I was thinking about buying Ashley a walker and she said "I thought she's pulling herself up" I said yeah she is but she's not walking.

Her response.. Oh! she's not walking yet?

Me: Uh no she's just 8 months old

Her: Well my son started walking at 8 months

Me: Well the average age is 12 months

Her: Really I didn't know that I guess cuz all my kids started walking at 8 months

Me:

ginadc-Annika is so precious. It seems like her along with alot of others on this thread are doing great with their crawling and moving around. Claire is so lazy. SHe will roll but does not crawl, pull herself up etc at all.

MMH-thats a great picture of her. I'm sure her baptism this past weekend was a very special day for you and your family.

Twyla-HOw funny are his faces!! Thats great! ALso, I love the daddy and me picture! HOw sweet!

chefker-that face is priceless!

terrys wifey-That woman would have pissed me off. I hate it when you talk to someone who's kids were above the standard and they pretend like they dont know. Everyone knows it when their kids do something significant so early. Its like she purposly wants to make herself feel better by making you feel worse. Just shake it off.

Us: Claire cut her third tooth yesterday. This one is the top front one. So now its back to bad sleeping for a few nights. This is miserable!
I want to start trying more finger foods like many of you. I hate it cause Claire does not have a good gag reflex. When she starts to choke she relies on me to use me finger to get it out. My nephew is amazing, if he starts to choke he will get it back up all on his own. Sounds gross I know but it really makes your heart skip a beat when they start to choke and you cant find the culprit in their throat!

Other than that I am just hanging in there. The pregnancy is really starting to make me tired. I am now napping in the morning while DD sleeps. Hopefully it will go away in the 2nd trimester.
On a totally different note, I want to post some pictures that I have on Flikr but I don't know how. Can anyone enlighten me?

We finally have tooth #2!! :D It came in last Friday. I lost count on how many weeks it took to come in, but it was definitely over 3 weeks. So glad it's here!

We took Audrey to the zoo this past weekend. It was so much fun! She was amazingly very well behaved and just soaked everything in. We had a great time! I'll try to come back with pics once I get them uploaded.

finger foods - I've been giving Audrey the Gerber puffs for practice. She hasn't mastered the pincer yet, but she's working on it. We've also given her tiny pieces of pancake, which she wasn't too sure about.

KRL - How exciting about the finger foods! Glad to hear J is doing well at his babysitters. It must make going back to work so much easier!

Twyla - Such cute pics! Does he breath heavy when he makes that face? If so, Audrey does that too! She makes a face just like that and huffs and puffs like she's mad. It's so cute!

chefker - That pictures is hilarious! Ian has the best facial expressions. :) Hope you get some time off work soon!

terrys wifey - Don't people like that annoy you? Bah! My mom bought Audrey a walker last week and she loves it. She zooms around the entire first floor. It's hilarious!

cgriffin - I've never used flickr, but I think if you right-click on the picture and copy the html address under 'properties', you can paste that address in here in an img tag.

ginadc and mmh: cute pics!
chefker and twyla: the expressions are hilarious!

table food: Ryan loves those gerber puffs (have you tasted them, they're good! esp. banana) and yesterday, he also had cornbread and loved it! his fine motor skills aren't quite there yet, but he's practicing his pincer grasp. sometimes the puffs get lost in his fist though. i can't wait to start giving him more real food. he's eaten fresh fruit and avocados, sometimes a little bit of broth just to taste. oh! i'm the bad mommy of the week - i gave ryan a taste of my ice cream and he got so excited. and boy was he MAD when it was all gone. my DH said no more of that!

gross motor dev: ryan is crawling so fast, but it's lopsided and cute as heck. he crawls with one knee and one foot. he's pulling up to standing even just against a wall, and i can tell he's trying so hard to balance by letting go. he's also learned how to get down slowly by bending down, instead of plopping on his bum.

terrys wifey - how annoying is that coworker of yours! i hate when people do that. i understand being proud of your kids but still...there are lots of babies who don't even crawl at 8 months and it's just fine. all within the range of normal. and anyways, kids who walk sooner as babies don't walk better as grown ups. hehehe.

pics: i have been bad about taking pics lately. partly because i lost my battery charger. i was doing a set of pics every month, but almost entirely skipped the 7th month! i will have to get my brother over to snap pics of him standing up.

jjohm - Don't feel bad, I snuck dd a little ice cream last night as well. Then I felt bad because she loved it and wanted more! It's so fun to see their reactions to new foods.

Chefker - DD loves dogs as well, I wonder what it is about them that enthrals the little ones?

Finger Foods - Add us to the Gerber Puffs bandwagon. DD does not like the banana ones but goes nuts for the sweet potato puffs. She has also tasted some fresh raspberries and a bit of a cheese quesadilla. I'm not sure if she is supposed to have all this stuff or not - but she likes it! Any thoughts on yogurt? DD really likes yobaby, she is 7 mos, is it okay to give her some dairy? Superbaby foods says it's okay...

Sleep is MUCH better around here with one tooth having been cut. I don't feel like I am slowly drowning anymore.

Crawling funny- Caedan does the one knee and one foot thing too LOL It is so funny. When he first started crawling my husband was out of town and when he came home Caedan would only crawl like that if Jason was in the room. Jason thought I was ying about him crawling for another week until her actually saw Caedan crawl.

Jules- He does breath heavy, it is the funniest thing!

Sippy cups- We started last week. He is still learning, but seems to like them. He just doesn't have the motor skills to get it to his mouth and hold it there. But he is trying. We went with the gerber ones with handles. Trhe nipple thing is soft rubber, which must make it easier for him. We tried one with a harder plastic sout thing and he hated it.

Caedan is still toothless LOL His gums swell and I thing "maybe this is it" but the teeth wont break through. i wish it would just happen he has been miserable lately.

We're going to Vegas in a couple weeks with the kids. There is a hot air balloon festival. AND I want to check out portrait innovations. We need family portraits and since they aren't in Ca. Vegas is the closest studio. So why not try em out while we are there LOL

I can'r believe how big eeryone's babies are getting. I love looking at all the pictures! chefker that one you posted is priceless! I am doing a spread in Caedan's scrapbook of funny pages. I guess Signing with Close To My Heart is good for something LOL

Just catching up quickly. It's only been a few days since I've been by, but there are tons of posts!!

We finally had our 6 month wbv (DS is 7 months), and he is really growing fast! 18 lb 13 oz, and 27.5 inches. He is catching up to his big sister very quickly!!

DS finally cut his first tooth yesterday, and the Dr. says the other bottom one and the top 2 should come in any day now.

finger foods - DS loves his cheerios, puffs, zwieback toast, biter biscuits, etc. We started giving him bagels last week. We have even given him a bit of potato. Add me to the list of people who have given their DC a taste of ice cream!! This boy loves food!

I tried the sippy cup with him, but he just isn't interested. He plays with it more than anything. I've also tried introducing meat, but he doesn't like that either! I guess I'll just have to start mixing it in with some veggies.

MMH, I have been giving DS yogurt for about a month now.

DS is so close to crawling. He goes backwards, but hasn't mastered forward yet. He gets up on his hands and knees, and just screams because he doesn't go anywhere!

It's official, I go back to work 3 days a week on the 25th, and I'm already dreading it!!

All our babies are just precious!

Yogurt Yes I give DS this often. I like the yobaby that comes with fruit and the cereal on the bottom. DS goes crazy for it and we give it for breakfast. So excited that you guys have tried so many table foods! I'm going to start letting him try little bits of what I eat (if it seems easy to eat)

This thread moves so fast. I love everyone's photos. They are growing fast.

Finger foods I've been giving cheerios, mostly to keep DS busy while we have dinner. DS can grab them but don't know how to bring them inside his mouth. He loves practicing on grabbing.

Sippy cup I introduced it a couple of weeks ago. DS gets to drink while he eats solids. We use Nuby sippy cup and also straw cup. DS loves both. It's funny to see DS kicking his legs out of excitement when we give sippy cup. He still can't quite hold himself and tilt to drink without our help. He can drink when he is lying down but not when he is sitting up. DS doesn't like his bottles, so I think I will try to transition him to sippy cup soon.

Crawling So is my DS the last one to crawl? He loves being on his tummy and *swims* a lot (kicking his legs and swinging his arms), but that doesn't make him move even a inch. He can rotate, but no moving forward or backward. He doesn't lift his belly from ground yet. How did your DC start crawling? Did they scoot first? Did they lift their upper body? I know the moment that DS starts crawling, I will miss pre-crawling stage.. but I am getting antsy.

DS also doesn't say dada mama yet. In fact, he doesn't really babble. He squel a lot when he is happy and sometimes say eh, ah, woo, but not much a-goo or any vowel-consonant combo.

And no teeth yet. Not even a sign of teething.

Well, most importatnly though, DS is always a happy happy baby. All the people in daycare loves him. And DS loves daycare too. I think DS gets bored at home in weekend. Apparently mom and dad don't play as well as teachers.

We are taking DS to his first plane trip this Sat (from east to west coast). I am kinda scared. Any tips for the plane ride?

Ooo, I'm so behind! Love all the pictures!

Froggie-Nope you're not the only one. My DS isn't crawling yet either and also does the swimming thing. I'm beginning to think he may never crawl as he's pretty effective getting places through rolling. Who knows!

Finger foods-Silly question - but where do you all get the zwieback toast, gerber puffs, biter biscuits? I've looked in Target and our local grocery store and can';t find any. I'm really behind on this. DS isn't even getting solids on a daily basis and when he does - doesn't eat that much. So- it's ok to give cheerios? I wasn't sure if they were too small.

Bath-I'm soooo buying that ducky tub!

Fingerfoods: Yes, anytime it seems soft enough we try to give it to him...he's become more receptive recently.

Sippycup: Yes we started around 5/6 months old although he still enjoys mostly biting the spout, rather than drinking from it!

Crawling/standing/side step walking: DS is doing all three, and climbed our staircase the other day---his new favorite activity!

Yogurt: After DS's last stomach bug, we've done yogurt-he loves it!

Meat: We've done the organic pre-mixed turkey/veggie dinner jars...he loves them. I've tried to break peices of my chicken....wont' accept that yet.

Sneaking foods: I'll occasionally give DS a teensy taste of something I'm having, that maybe I shouldn't be. Example: he was watching me eat an english muffin with jam.......his mouth was drooling, I had to let him taste the jam!!

Work/end of maternity leave: Just went back to work this week for teh first time. I'm teaching 2 1/2 days, DH is watching him 2 days, and my grandmother for three hours on the third day. I cried the first day, whenever I'd talk about him, or look at his picture. Yesterday I only cried when I got home...and now I'm off until Monday. I hope it gets easier

Food - we hardly do any baby food. Most of the solid food DD gets comes off of our plates. Our ped said to avoid the major allergins until 1 year (peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, fish/shellfish), but anything else is fair game. That said, we do try to keep her sugar intake down.

Speaking of sugar intake, I don't know if anyone cares, but I was shocked at the amount of sugar in those Gerber puffs. I was going to buy some for DD until I read the label. So for small finger foods, we do Cheerios instead. They're a heck of a lot cheaper anyway.

Jack isn't crawling yet either. From sitting up he'll lean forward like he's just going to take off and then he either falls flat on his tummy or he gets himself sat back upright. He's also not pulling up to standing or sitting up from laying yet. But he is able to stand up against the couch for a little while on his own before falling.

He's also going through a stage where he's not all that interested in food, so he's only gotten solids once a day lately. We haven't started any finger food either...guess maybe I should start trying, just not sure I'm ready for him to be so grown up :)

Finger Foods, again - Last night DH and I went out to eat with DD. I gave her the lemon wedge from my water to play with (after picking out all the seeds of course) and she loved it. She sucked all the pulp out of the thing. So I think I'll buy some oranges when I go shopping this week.

Well DS will be 7 months tomorrow!! Where does the time go??

Froggie-We're still not crawling either...he can move around pretty good by himself, but either gets the legs up or the arms up, not both at the same time. Let us know how your plane trip goes...we're going from the West coast to the East coast at the end of the month and I am hoping it goes smoothly, but then it never does?? Any tips I can gain from your experience would be great!!!

Sippy Cup-We started Josh on those a while back...he still can't lift it completely and hasn't figured out to tilt his head back unless we're holding it for him. We give him water in it after he eats solids, but he mostly spits it out!!

Solids-Still at once a day...I feel like we are soo behind the curve. He's only had rice cereal, bananas, and sweet potatoes. He doesn't really seem to care for foods...he spits them out a lot of the time! Today we are trying carrots! I'm thinking he might like to play more with the food and enjoy eating smaller soft foods...I might try that. We did give him oatmeal about a week ago and about 3 hours later he threw up all over the place! I'm worried it's a wheat allergy so I'm going slow with everything else. I really hope it's not and was just a fluke thing! He had been spitting up quite a bit that day and the day before. Who knows!!

Teeth-Still no teeth either...I can see the bumps, but they are not making their way through. They've been that way for a month now. Come on!!!

jules1025

elladee - I worry about sugar intake, too, so I make sure not to give DD sugary foods. But, the gerber puffs I have (veggie puffs - sweet potato flavor) only have 1 gram of sugar per 80 puffs. I didn't think that was a lot. I'm not sure how much the fruit puffs have, though. Are those the puffs you were referring to?

Hi everyone, sounds like all the babies have been busy discovering and trying new things!

crawling/standing- DS is not crawling, scooting, or lifting himself up yet either. Hasn't said any "words" yet either, but we do "talk" to each other all day! Sometimes I think he is easygoing to the point of laziness. :)

solids/finger foods- The only finger foods I've given him are very soft pieces of cooked fruits or veggies that I put aside before making his purees. I cut up the cooked pieces and freeze them on a tray, then move them to a bag in the freezer so that when I want him to practice (or need to keep him occupied in the high chair) I grab a few pieces from the bag and thaw them in the microwave. He likes to grab them and practice, but he is another who doesn't actually get the food into his mouth yet.

sippy cups- A while back I discovered the small Take n Toss sippy cups and DS figured it out right away. They are perfect for him as they are extremely lightweight and have ridges for grasping. He loves it, and it is another thing I can give him to entertain himself with in the high chair. It isn't leakproof, and he bangs it around and gets drops of water all over, but I don't care. traveling- froggie, We have done two round-trip flights, one was 4+ hours and one was an hour. For the long one, he did not have his own seat. A family who sat near us said we should bring a pillow next time to put under our arms when DS fell asleep. That would have been a great idea but would also have been one more thing to carry. DS did fine with the takeoffs and landings, but we made sure he had a bottle or pacifier that he was sucking on during those times. We took several small toys that don't make a lot of noise and soft books, and in our suitcase I packed other toys/books that we didn't let DS play with or see until the flight back, so he had "new" toys to occupy him. Our shorter trip came after the new travel restrictions. Since it was such a short flight I didn't need to pack any solids. When we boarded I asked the flight attendant for a bottle of water and made a bottle w/ powdered formula for DS right when we got on the plane. I have lots more I could say about travel so let me know if you have specific questions, but the biggest things are 1) the travel threads on this site were helpful to me, and 2) DS did GREAT....I'm sure you will all have a good trip!

Jules, I don't know how much sugar is too much. What I don't like is that (according to my math) Gerber Puffs have more than 4 times as much sugar as Cherrios:

Puffs have 1 gram of sugar per serving
1 jar of Puffs = 42 grams, 6 servings per jar --> 1 serving of puffs is 7 grams
So that's 1 gram of sugar per 7 grams of Puffs

Cherrios also have 1 gram of sugar per serving
1 serving of Cherrios is 30 grams
So that's 1 gram of sugar per 30 grams of Cherrios
or 0.233 grams of sugar per 7 grams of Cherrios

Make sense?

Oh wow Elladee, I never gave it that much thought................good thing I'm going food shopping today :) I'll have to put Cherios on the list!

My family keeps urging me to increase the amount of table foods I offer, but I worry about him choking (especially since he gags at any new texture)

Do any of you have the same fear?

yes. are cheerios as dissolveable as the gerber puffs? that's what i'm worried about. ryan doesn't quite grasp the concept of chewing/mashing. he just lets it melt in his mouth.

elladee - Ah, I see. Yeah, comparing them like that, the puffs do have more sugar. Maybe we'll try cheerios soon. I just like that the puffs melt in her mouth since she doesn't have the chewing thing down quite yet.

qotd - separation anxiety - Anyone dealing with this yet? I think it's starting over here. Audrey has started to get really clingy - much more than her usual clingy-ness. When I try to get stuff done around the house and put her down to play, she whines and crawls/walks (in her walker) over to me and tugs on my leg to be picked up. Even if I play with her at first to get her interested in the toy, as soon as I try to leave her to play she whines and crawls over to me. She also seems to be in this "mommy all the time" phase. She cries if DH tries to put her to bed at night. I usually have to go in and take over just to get her to go to sleep.

Here is a quick update on Owyn.

solids/finger food--He is still just getting one meal of solids. He also now has a morning snack. Last weekend I started giving him a Cheerios type cereal (organic and w/o wheat). I was worried about him not chewing them, so I would break them into pieces. He really seems to like the "Cheerios". This morning I started giving some to him whole and he did pretty well with those too.

sippy cup--We bought a sippy cup, but we don't offer the sippy to him. Owyn's school doesn't use sippy cups. They go straight to teaching to drink out of a cup, so that is what we are doing at home. We have a few shot glasses that we give water to him in.

first illness--Last weekend, Owyn had his first illness besides the colds that he seems to like to catch. Friday night he had a fever of 104.1! Saturday and Sunday his fever stayed around 101 and by Monday he was really starting to feel better.

Separation Anxiety- Yes, we have begun to start to deal with this. I noticed it really over the past week. DS has been hanging on mommy all day long! Even when we sit down to play and I lay right next to him on the floor, he wants to crawl over on me and have me pick him up! I try to tell him I'm right there, but he still whines until I pick him up. The last few days haven't been too bad, but I definitely think we have started this new phase in his life.

Meggers- I hope Owyn is feeling better. I would have been scared if DS had a fever of 104.1!! Did you just give him fluids and tylenol? We started DS on a cup by itself as well as give him a sippy cup. I'm kind of trying anything to see what goes! I would prefer he just use the cup though. Hmmm....maybe I'll give that more attention than the sippy. I did just buy a Nuby though!;)

jules1025-yes i can totally relate to the separation anxiety. DD will not let me leave her sight for one second without freaking out. She also loves to play with DH but will whine and cry constantly if I am around them. Its starting to drive me a bit banannas!

finger foods- i am trying to get DD to start trying things. So far she likes the gerber puffs and the biter biscuits but the puffs she cant get into her mouth. since she hasnt mastered the pincer grasp the puff gets lost in her fist. I am hoping that she will get the hang of it soon. she gets mad when i try and
teach her though. shes very strong willed!

sippy cups- She likes her sippy cup and does know how to use it. If she is really thirsty she will suck on it, otherwise it just becomes a teether. I usually put a small amount of apple juice and mostly water in it. She won't touch it if it is only water.

We are dealing with some separation anxiety too. I started noticing this more at the end of last week when I was home alone with DS. Then this weekend, even if I was sitting right beside him, when DS saw DH walk away, he would burst into tears. If DH turned around and came back, DS would immediately stop and smile a huge smile.

I posted last week that DS wasn't really saying any "words." This weekend out of nowhere the consonant sounds started and it's a whole new chapter around here with new sounds filling the house. On Sunday morning when DH got him out of his crib, DS started to say "da-da da-da" while DH was changing him. It is incredible how they can change literally overnight.

Random info: Someone gave us a set of toy stacking cups, and I swear DS is addicted to playing with them. He would play with them all day long I think, only stopping to eat of course. :)

So we're getting ready to buy Alex's Halloween costume, likely from babystyle (the shark!) but I don't know what size to get. What size are you ordering your kiddos (from where-ever you're getting the costume)??

Here's my dilemma.... Alex is longer (already) than the 6-12M size but there's no way he'll weigh enough for the 12-18M size. So what do I do? Opt for long enough and too wide or too short and just right for weight?? Any thoughts?

separation anxiety: yep. ditto...hopefully this does not last long!

halloween: i got DS the 12-18 month size even though he wears 9 or 12 months size clothes. Better to have more room than not enough.

this is the costume we got him (for only $15!)

Separation Anxiety ~ oh, it's terrible. All I have to do is stand up and Jack thinks I'm leaving. He starts crying and reaching out towards me, even if DH is in the floor playing with him at the time. It's making it a little difficult to get anything done around the house because all he wants to do is holler if he's not right on top of me...

Halloween ~ I haven't even given much thought to it yet. I'm feeling cheap lately and don't want to spend much of anything on a costume since we won't be out trick-or-treating, he doesn't go to daycare, and not too many people would probably get to see it anyways. Guess I should start looking around and see what's even out there this year. I'm so behind....(but I am planning a fun birthday party...I know, I have things a little mixed up :p )

Finger foods ~ Jack hasn't had much in the way of finger foods. I sliced up some banana for him last week and he just slapped at it until it made a big mess. He's still kinda in his mode of not being too interested in food, so I'm not pushing it. He's plenty healthy (pushing 28 lbs. or so) and I'm not too worried about him not getting nutrients he needs. Maybe in the next few weeks we'll start with some cheerios and such.

Sippy Cups ~ I think he has the idea behind the cup figured out, it's just difficult for him to get any liquid out (I've sucked on it and I can see why he has trouble, it's not as easy as I would've thought). But I've started giving him an 8 oz. water bottle with a squirt top and he's figuring that out a little better. I only open it partway so it doesn't come out too fast, but he seems to like that better. Although, he'd much rather have a regular cup without any sort of lid.

We have also had three nights with NO sleep. I can't tell if it's her teeth (another one broke through today) or if she freaks out when I leave after feeding her at 2am. You're welcome meatpie! Do you really think the hot weather here is over or is this just a break? I have been putting off buying warm clothes because sometimes it's hot through October (especially here in the Valley) and so today I was like, "Yikes, he has nothing to wear!!"

Cute video of Jack! If I only heard the sound I would SWEAR it was my guy. Same exact laugh, same timing when something is funny to him. Except my guy would cry at the sound of the Cuisinart. Sometimes he's a bit of a scaredy-cat with sounds.

I send a Snapfish album almost every week  to family and some friends. I have a great MIL and some incredibly tech-saavy grandparents-in-law, and they just live for those albums. When I am taking pictures, I am almost always thinking of capturing those moments for them to be able to see them. It's hardly any additional work for me since I get all my pics developed through Snapfish anyway (you can upload and pick up at Walgreens an hour later...more expensive than other places but so incredibly easy). I got the one month free trial of being able to upload/share videos, and everyone LOVED getting videos. So now I think I might pay for a year of that feature. I still love Snapfish despite the recent hotlinking issue.

Meatpie-your baby is adorable, and his giggle is infectious!!!

DS' teething is still ongoing, I'm hoping a tooth or two will pop in by the weekend!! He only woke up crying once last night....my parents have offered to watch him over night tomorrow for our anniversary : )
They've bought him a crib, so they're all set :)

I was wondering how many naps your children are taking? DS goes to bed around 6:30 and generally wakes 12 hours later, and he takes three naps a day....

I've been wondering if he should be dropping a nap soon? Any thoughts? Right now we're just following his lead : )

He stood up all by himself for several seconds yesterday-so cute!!! Oh and he had yogurt and Cherios for breakfast-such a big boy!! I have been doing a terrible job of writing in his baby book, is anyone else like me?

Does anyone have any really cool memory saving ideas? We did footprints when he was one month old, but that's about it...sad I know

Any ideas would be great, have a great day!! I'm off to buy some onesies and possibly a sweater or two for me : )

Finally, it's not 100 degrees here in Idaho. I love the fall and am so excited for the cooler weather.

Slightly funny story. My DH is in a bowling league (silly I know) with some of his friends. So last night he rolled in around 12:30am. For some reason I got myself all worked up and scared because I was hearing noises. As I was in DD's room upstairs I started hollering for DH in the monitor. The man never even moved an inch. He still doesn't know I was screaming for him! He's lucky there wasn't anything really wrong or he wold be in big trouble!

cheerios- We tried some Whole Foods Morning O's cereal this weekend and they are a hit! T sat there determined for a looong time until he finally figured out how to pick them up with two fingers, get those same two fingers into his mouth, and "chew."

cooler weather- after a cool/drizzly Friday, our warm weather pretty much came back, but there's a little chill early morning and at night. Still holding off on buying clothes as much as I can until I know what we really need, and when. Plus, buying bottoms is really hard right now as DS has big legs but not long legs.

DS has had bare feet all summer so I at least need to buy some new socks! What are the babies in this thread wearing on their feet these days? What size socks? Any of those soft-soled shoes? I love these but DH doesn't like them for DS. http://www.isabooties.com I saw a discount code for these floating around the Baby Bargains Book message board. I can find it if someone is interested.

A couple of weeks ago I picked Jack up some hard soled tennis shoes because we go to a football game every Friday night and I figured they would be warmer than some of the lighter shoes. He's not too keen on them just yet. The 2 times he's worn them I've had to take them off because he screams (although I think it's more of a coincidence because he's been throwing terrible screaming fits every time we get in the car & that's when we have the shoes on).

We've resorted to just wearing socks for the last few days. He has tree trunks for legs and is wearing 18 month socks so they're not too tight around his ankles.

socks: we put socks on him sometimes. i bot these stretchy ones form babiesrus in a size 4-5. they are a little big, but all the ones for 12 months are too small.

shoes: i love baby shoes. a bit too much. (i just won another pair of blue and orange infant pumas off ebay yesterday) now that ryan needs pre-walk shoes (and not just as accessories), my DH is like...HE HAS 6 PAIRS ALREADY, WHICH HE NEVER WEARS. heehee...
i'm thinking of getting those pediped shoes for him. you all probably know this, but i just learned this recently:

"Shoes for infants should be lightweight, made of a breathable material (leather or cloth, but not plastic), with soles so flexible that you can feel baby’s toes through them (hard soles are absolutely out). Shoes with stiff ankle support (high-tops) are not only unnecessary and unhealthy for feet now, but will be when baby starts walking, too.

cooler weather - I'm also jealous of everyone with cool weather. It's still in the high 80s/low 90s here. I already bought Audrey a few fall/winter outfits though (they were too cute!), so she's set through February!

shoes - I bought Audrey two pairs of soft soled shoes from Target - one in 0-6 mos and the other in 6-12 mos. Well the 0-6 mos pair is now too small, and she looks like she's wearing boats on her feet with the 6-12 mos pair! I really need to get her a pair of shoes that fit, since she's starting to stand on her own already! Any recs??

standing - This past week, Audrey has been trying to stand on her own. She's been able to get up to about 10 seconds of standing on her own before falling. It's a really wobbly stand, but still exciting! :)

Caedan had a few pair of Chuck Taylor Crib shoes but they are too small now. We have a pair of regular Chuck Taylors also but they are too big. lol We picked up a bigger pair when we were in Vegas but they are too small too. I guess Jack is sort of in the middle age wise, he's not quite 8 months old. He shows absolutely no signs of crawling, moving himself to a sitting position, let alone pulling up to standing. He can sit if you put him in position, but then he gets distracted and tips over. So give me a shout out if your dc isn't doing any of the above, either

I'm a little afraid that he's having trouble with the crawling thing because he's super flexible, he just can't get his knees to stay under him. For reference, can your baby do the splits both ways or touch heels to ears. a couple of people have commented and now I'm all paranoid, because I actually had to have surgery as a child because I was too flexible, my hips weren't being held together properly. Yes, I will be discussing this with his doctor in a week and a half, but in the meantime, what does your baby do?

Just within the last day or two has Jack started to pull himself up with any success. He's still pretty wobbly though. Friday night he started getting himself sat up in his bed, but he has a real hard time setting himself up from laying on the floor.

He's obviously not crawling yet either. He tries, but just can't coordinate all 4 limbs at once. I'm not too worried about it though. At his 6 month WBV his doctor said that he MIGHT be just pulling up by his 9 month appt. So even though we're behind other babies when it comes to pulling up and crawling, it's not anything to be concerned about at this point.

Hi ladies,
Just have to share a few things!

DS is now saying dadadadda so adorable! He's starting to cruise, and when I put the empty box of pampers in front of him, he began to push it across the rug while walking!

His teeth still haven't popped through yet.

Cooler weather:
I've bought one package of long sleeved onesies and two packages of short sleeved onesies. I figure that I'll be layering and he runs hot, so he may not need so many long sleeved onesies. I like to use them now when it's sort of cool, under t-shirts...he looks so cute!!!

He's eight months old, but I've started to put 12 month clothing on him, and just rolling the pants....hopefully I'll be able to stretch out his clothes all winter long!

Has anyone bought winter hats yet??? We bought his winter coat and snowsuit already last season.......but we're having trouble keeping his hats on....any tips?

Hey all not much to report here. We're finally biting the bullet and buying a car. I didn't know how much longer I could take lugging DS and all our stuff on the subway and 2 buses it takes to get to work/babysitter! Jeremiah has been standing for about a month and a half now and recently has started letting one of his hands go. He is cruising, crawling, and saying dadada and mamamama!

He shows absolutely no signs of crawling, moving himself to a sitting position, let alone pulling up to standing. He can sit if you put him in position, but then he gets distracted and tips over. So give me a shout out if your dc isn't doing any of the above, either
do?

You could be talking about my DS. Although, he does get up on his hands and knees, he just doesn't go anywhere! Maybe because of our hardwood floors?? DS is also nowhere near pulling himself up.

Over the last week or so, we've been giving DS much more finger foods - tons of fruits (pears, peaches, banana's) and also some veggies (carrots and potatoes so far) and boy he's loving it!!

As far as winter clothing, I get all my nephew's clothes from my SIL as he outgrows them (he is 6 months older than DS), and so far all we have is some sweats and a few long sleeve shirts. We live in CT and have had a few chilly days! The last time I saw SIL, she forgot to give me the lastest bag, and I really think we're gonna need it soon! DS is also in 6-12 months or 9-12 or 12 month clothing, depending the brand. Like newmommy said, pants and such are still a wee big, so they should get us through the winter. DS will be 8 months next week.

I am finally back here. We had a 10 day trip to CA. The plane ride was really smooth. DS slept pretty much the whole time and when he was awake, he was so curious about all the new things around him and smiled at everyone. We didn't buy his seat and the plane was full both times, but DS was just happy in our laps. The bad news is he was sick pretty much the whole time there. He had over 100 degree fever for 5 days and when we finally brought him to a doctor, they took chest x-ray and said DS a little bit of pneumonia. :( After a couple of days of antibiotics, he was okay, but the antibiotic made him have diahrrea, so poop explosion everywhere! What a fun. However, overall, it was a fun trip. It just could have been better.

sophonisba9 You must be talking about my DS. DS shows no sign of crawling, putting himself to a sitting position, pulling up to standing, and etc. He doesn't even get up on his hands and knees. He can rotate around, but that's pretty much it. DS loves being in a tummy position, so everyone told us he will be an early crawler. But nope. Nothing is happening here.

Twyla I vote for the top one that Medako posted. Your DS is so cute. He has a great smile.

I know there are many things that I missed. I am still busy recovering from the trip. I will try to get back soon.

Forgot to say that DS finally got his first tooth while we were in CA. No sign of teething or anything. Then one day, there it was!
So now I have a question.. It has been 10 days since his first tooth (bottom) came out, but there is still no sign for the second one. Aren't two teeth usually come out together??? DS has been really cranky and not sleeping well last couple of days.. and I am not sure that's because he is tired from the trip or he is teething or what. Can they have teething pain for the second one even though they didn't seem to have any pain for the first one?

It's good to know my kid isn't the only one who seems content to just hang out on his tummy.

Jack has 2 teeth, them came in exactly a week apart with no real discommort on either. He was a little more drooly, but that was it. There's no sign of anything else coming.

Top teeth might be the final nail in the coffin of our nursing relationship. I've gotten really lazy recently about offering the breast and I think the tap is about dry.

Alex did get his first two teeth pretty close together - within about 2 weeks I think. He just got his third one - and it's on the bottom too. Funny guy.

Alex will sit but he's certainly not pulling himself up to sit or anything like that. He's a pretty laid back kid, just happy hanging out and rolling around. We've seen signs of crawling but he hasn't done it yet.

No finger foods here. I know he can pick up the Gerber puffs but he showed no interest in them and gagged on them. I'm in no hurry to introduce that stuff anyway since he's doing so well with baby food veggies/fruits and his bottles still. He tried pureed meat and was not impressed...so I'll try again eventually. Again, no hurry there. He's growing and gaining weight so I don't think he's missing out on it.

Medako

We've started a few finger foods just to entertain Jack more than anything. He is doing pretty good with the puffs and he's had some green beans and banana chunks. I'm slowly starting to offer him a few more things off of my plate too, and he's taking to it like a duck to water. I think as long it's edible, he's going to like it. Of course, we're still not up to 3 meals of solids a day. Between nursing and feeding him solids, I don't think we'd have time for anything else...and naptime is a bit more important right now (especially since he's plenty big and still gaining weight!)

I don't think it'll be too terribly much longer before we're starting into 24 month clothes. The 18 month stuff is fitting him pretty good and if he doesn't start to lean out a little from crawling, then we'll be moving up another size before his 1st birthday. I think I have the biggest kid here! :p

Owyn is 8 months old today. Today he figured out how to pull himself up to a standing position. At first, he wasn't too good at the whole standing thing so he bumped his head a few times, but he seems to have got it figured out now. We tried on his Halloween costume on on Tuesday (in celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day). Here are some recent pictures of him:

No crawling, scooting, or pulling to standing here yet either. He will also just rotate when on his tummy. At our 8 month checkup last week the doctor asked if I was worried about it and I said no. There seems to be quite a range with crawling. We have begun calling him Inspector Gadget because he somehow manages to reach whatever he wants without actually having to move his torso or legs. Hence, the Go Go Gadget Arms.

Like Medako's DS, he loves anything edible. He has the finger food thing down, and I think he's actually getting bored with the purees now that he can get bits of food in his own mouth. His fine motor skills really blow me away so I think eating is really fun and entertaining for him. Even though he loves to eat, I did find that I had to mix the pureed meat with plenty of other food and rather thinly in order for him to eat it.

He's above average on weight and below average on length so clothing him is pretty hard these days. Last week he wore 18-month shorts (albeit they were really long on him) and then the next day a 12-month onesie and pants that were 3-6 months!! Granted, they were wide, stretchy pants. The biggest problem I have is pulling bottoms over his thighs, so the stretchier and softer the material, the better.

froggie, sorry to hear your DS was sick. yay for the tooth!
Cute pictures twyla and meggers!

sophonisba...no crawling, pulling, sitting, etc. here for either baby! and they're 8.5 months old now. trying not to worry yet.

additionally, they show no signs of being able to use a pincer grasp or anything so we haven't yet tried any finger foods...wonder if we should?

teeth...ds has 2 teeth that came in about 3 weeks apart. dd has no teeth at all!

cooler weather...we've had some cooler days here that required long sleeves, pants and socks. luckily for me, i have a 3 year old niece and a 16 month old nephew and all of their old clothes so i barely have to buy the babies anything. so we have lots of fall/winter stuff. we did have to buy snowsuits but that's it!

ds finally has another tooth poking out...weird that it is not one of the top middle ones! he had his two bottom teeth come out at 4 months, and then nothing for a long time. i expected his top two, huh...

i just got a video camera to replace the sound monitor and it is so cute to watch what he is doing in his crib by himself! too bad the quality is not all that good.

other news: we are moving - yay! finally sold our townhouse and will move into a larger home. our current one has 3 bedrooms - one for us, one for DS, and one as an office. we are wondering what we are going to do with all those bedrooms in the next house, since it's got 4 bedrooms upstairs and a separate den on the main level. (but don't be jealous - the in laws are going to live in the basement suite) my mom says the plus side is...i'll probably lose some weight!

jjohm - I so wish we had a video monitor. DD's room is upstairs and I can't tell you how many times I still run up the stairs to check on her!

aligirl - CONGRATS. Oh my goodness, good for you!

Nursing Strike - DD is still on a daytime nursing strike which is driving me and my boobs nuts. Uggg. The kid is just so distracted during the day.

Preschool - Anyone pre-register for this yet? Some ladies are freaking me out telling me to get on waiting lists right now!

Stroller Strides - I'm doing a test class tomorrow. Anyone do this in their area? I'm not sure I will sign up seeing as how the weather is going to change soon and I don't want to stroll around our mall all winter. Our gym has a great daycare that we pay for as well. Just curious as to what others think?

We spent the weekend in Sun Valley with some friends who have a one year old. He loves to whisk things in bowls! It was so funny. My little one just loves to mug for the camera.

I am oh SO way behind!!!

Wanted to pop in and say congrats to Aligirl and cgriffin on babies # 2!!! ]

Meggers does he have top teeth? Those are the cutest pix!!!

Ds could care less about crawling properly - he does the army crawl and is happy as can be with it. He started pulling himself up the other day and now that is the only position that he likes!!!! This can get really frustrating at 5am! I was really wishing that he would wait to be so mobile. DD walked at like 10 months!

Is my DS the only one without teeth?

He is eating some solids but not a whole bunch... peas, green beans, sweet pots, bananas, yogurt and summer squash and that is about it - no finger foods or anything.

Hope you are all fantastic - I will catch up soon!

WOW! Aligirl- Congrats!

My DS has both bottom teeth and is REALLY close to cutting his two top front teeth. Nursing is going to be interesting when that happens. We have been feeding him solids, but not on a constistent basis, and truthfully, he really doesn't seem that interested. So far my DS has had peas, carrots, rice cereal and sweet potatoes. I feel like he's so behind in his culinary exposure compared to some you gals DCs!

DS has also only been doing the army crawl. He can sit up on his own for the most part- he thinks it's hilarious when he tips over. I wonder if he would be moving around more if there were other children around?

Meggers- Cute pics! I have refrained from putting DSs costume on him because I am so scared he is going to hate it and be too warm. His costume is furry, so I am praying for cool weather. If I try it on now he will totally remember..

Wow! Aligirl, congrats!

Micki has her bottom teeth - she started cutting those around 6 months. I'm sure she's cutting more b/c she's got a runny nose and she's coughing a lot - same thing happened before the first two came in. Oh yeah, and she's "forgotten" how to sleep at night. UGh!

She pulls herself up in her crib, so there's really no reason to sleep at night when she can keep waking up and practicing pulling herself up. Mama is tired! Anyone go through this and "fix" it? IF so, what did you do? I'm *thisclose* to CIO.

She creeps REALLY fast now - we darn near have to chase her when she's creeping. And, this weekend she started cruising furniture - her crib and the couch. She even goes hands-free for a couple of seconds at a time. This kid went from not rolling over both ways at 5 months to sitting, creeping, cruising by 7.5 months. I SO didn't think the motor skills would come this quickly.

She's not all that jazzed about solids, but we try at least a fruit and veggie every day. She's not into finger foods - we tried puffs and she just pawed them (won't use her pincer, although she can), let them dissolve in her hand and when I popped one in her mouth, she gagged.

Oh, and she REALLY likes imitating people now. I worked for a couple of weeks to get her to say "Ma ma ma ma ma," and she would watch me so intently. Well, finally, she said it back. Now we can't stop her! She also giggles when we do and makes this crack-pot face when we change her diaper or when she wants us to laugh (courtesy of MIL, who taught her to make the face in response to a dirty diaper).

today, DS decided he did not want formula. he'd take a few ounces at a time, and throw the bottle. i tried to give it back to him, but then he turns away. usually, he downs 8 oz pretty fast.

anyone know if this is normal? maybe he's constipated (he didn't poop today but possibly cuz he didn't drink that much)? maybe he just wants to eat real food? maybe i'm being hyper-sensitive???

jjohm will he eat solids? Will he take water from a bottle? From a sippy?

He might be teething - maybe his little teefers hurt and the sucking aggravates it?

hm. i didn't think about that. i haven't tried to give him a sippy, but he did take some solid food - one larger jar of baby food and a banana. his one tooth is barely poking out, so that could be it. i'll try a sippy cup tomorrow and some more baby food. thanks!!

Ashley has her two bottom teeth and now the two top teeth are coming in. I didn't even know b/c she didn't seem bothered by them at all.

She is begging for everyone's food, they girl can eat!! Other then her babyfood (veggie and fruit) she is still eating rice cereal and we give her saltines, ritz crackers and cheerios. I give her some of my bagel and toast when I am eating it.

She is TOTALLY refusing the sippy cup!!!

At daycare she is spending time with the toddlers for a few hours each day b/c when she turns 1 yrs old she is will be going to that section. She would cry in the beginning and now she loves it!! My baby is growing up!

She is such a busy body too pulling herself up on furniture and walking from one end to the other.

jjohm, he might just be going through a "not so hungry" phase. I know Jack goes through some where he doesn't want to nurse and others where he wants nothing to do with solids. I figure as long as it's offered and he's not taking it (and he's not sick or in pain or the like) then he just doesn't want it and will be fine. When he's hungry, he'll eat.

We had a really bad night last night. Yesterday Jack didn't seem like he felt great and once I put him to bed he was waking up at least once an hour, but he was putting himself back to sleep within a few minutes. At 2:30 he woke up SCREAMING and wouldn't stop. I went to pick him up and he was blazing hot. Took his temp with the ear thermometer and it was 100.4 and climbing. I got some tylenol down him, and the fever finally broke at 101.8. :( He was back in bed by 3am and slept a solid 2 hours before waking up again.

Poor kiddo...just had his first fever :(

It's been awhile...we just got back from a visit to Ohio and DS's first plane ride. It went pretty smoothly...when he was awake he was so curious he just looked around everywhere and when he started to get cranky, I just nursed him and it either put him to sleep or calmed him down.

All the pics of the little ones are great! I have to upload some recent ones and post later...I love the pirate costume Meggers! Too cute!! DS will be a pumpkin, but I just got a thin velore onesie/pumpkin suit from Babies -r-us. It's still too hot here to think about too many clothes. It's supposed to be 97 today!!! Uugh!! I wish it would cool down so we could wear cooler clothing. I do have some fall/winter clothing for DS which we used while we were in Ohio this past week, so I think we are set there.

DS is doing the army crawl as well and will do the "normal" crawl for a few steps, but then falls on his belly and continues on with the army crawl. He moves so fast as well!! He especially loves the dogs toys and will move like lightening to get to them and put them in his mouth!! Icky!!! He keeps trying to pull himself up to a standing position, but hasn't quite figured it out. He seems to do best when he's pulling himself up all over mom and dad!

Josh is finally seeming to like solids and will eat them pretty much every day. I'm still only giving him one meal a day, but am thinking about starting two. I do give him pieces of banana as well as the Gerber puffs which he seems to love. I'd like to try some soft veggies as well, but might wait a bit for that. His pincer grasp is getting better, but still not the best yet.

Congrats to the two pregnant mommies! How exciting!

crawling--Owyn just does the army crawl too and moves pretty fast.

Congrats Aligirl! I think that is so exciting!

aligirl - Congratulations!!

Medako, MMH, jennapeach - adorable pictures! jenn, that crackpot face is hilarious!

Medako - poor guy. I hope he's feeling better today.

halloween - we bought Audrey a Princess Leia costume. I'll take a pic once we try it on her!

solids - We are on 3 meals a day now, plus a snack between lunch and dinner. Audrey loves solids! I think she's wanting to feed herself more than eating from a spoon, though. So I need to figure out other finger foods to give her besides cheerios. I've tried pieces of fruit but she can't pick them up very well.

teeth - Audrey has her 2 bottom teeth completely in. One just broke through this morning and she has 3 more on the way (all on top)! Her 4 top teeth are all coming in at the same time. She's been a cranky girl!

Teeth: I think his two bottom teeth will be in any day...they're taking forever, and he keeps waking up in the middle of the night crying : (

Halloween: He will be a shark!

Solids: He samples all of our meals, and eats three meals a day, with a snack or two....it's hard to know how much to feed him, he has a big appetite!

He now waves hello and goodbye, plays patty cake, and says dadadadada, oh and we bought him a walker, and he walks across the living room with it!(not sure I posted that before)

Hi girls! Boy it's been quiet here. Caedan has learned a few new things this week and he is so proud. He can clap, wave, and learned a new word "no". Thanks to his big sister! But my sister thinks it's hystarical the her son is 5 weeks younger and already has 2 teeth when Caedan doesn't have any LOL BUT (have any of you hear of this before?) When i put my finger in his mouth I can feel a tooth towards te back. And if you pull is cheek back you can see a little white. Is it possible that he is getting a back tooth first? I thought it was a little odd.

It's been quiet in here lately. Jaxson had his 9 mo WBV yesterday so I thought I would update.

9 monthWBV
Weight: 23lbs 2ozs
Height: 28 3/4"

Jaxson has been doing very well lately. He turned 9 mo on Wed and he also took his first step! I wasn't ready for him to start walking this early but I am excited. He just takes one step and then falls so we have a ways to go but it's still exciting.

He also started clapping this week and he says uh-oh as well as mama and dada. He has 6 teeth now, 2 on bottom and 4 on top. The ped said I could start giving me more table foods now as long as it's something that he can gum. I have a few jars of baby food left and then I'm going to start giving him the good stuff. He had thrush a few weeks ago and he still has just a little bit left so I have to give him an antibiotic again. He also has a yeast infection on his genitals so I also have to put some antifungal cream on that four times a day.

Here are a few recent pics of Jaxson:

Hello ladies! I am such a slacker. I will check in here once in a while, but haven't posted in a long, long, time. I'm sorry!

Part if it is because I don't want to start comparing nate to anyone like I was doing with Aaron. I wasn't trying to compare, but it's hard not to. Nate is hardly eating solids. Partly because I don't think of it and partly because he doesn't like them. He hasn't liked anything I've given him - Avacodo, Sweet Potatoes (he will tolerate these), bananas, peas, apples... I'm starting to think he doesn't like my cooking! I really didn't want to buy jar food this time around though.

Nate seems like he wants to crawl, but it'll be several weeks still. He has two teeth. I think I feel one in the back though too, Twyla. I wonder if those will pop out before the others?

I hope you are all doing well!

I just got the book exchange letter. You send one book out and are supposed to get 36 books in return. The problem is I don't know 6 people IRL that have kids (isn't that sad). Let me know if you have any ideas of who I can forward the book exchange letter to. :)

Nikki--Congrats on Jaxson taking his first step!

It's been a while since I posted! We've had company and dd has had her first ear infection. I do not wish this upon any child or parent. TORTURE. She is on the mend however and back to her old tricks, mainly trying to crawl.

Lynn - I had to laugh at this, we go through the same things some days. I feel horrible counting the seconds until bedtime...
This was taken yesterday while we were trying to waste time waiting for the day to end. It was a long day.

We went to a harvest festival this weekend and dd tried out her blue outfit. We hope she didn't look like a boy!

Not to sure about the big orange things...

I guess they are okay mom and dad!

Anyone else wondering where the time is going? Each day I look at dd and swear she has grown. I can't believe 8 months have passed. Definitely the quickest (and hardest!) 8 months of my life. I'm trying to enjoy every second!

How is everyone doing?? We need to get this thread active again! :) We've just had some new developments in the last few days. Audrey can now stand up on her own (without holding onto anything) and will stay standing for long periods of time. Pretty exciting! No walking yet, though. She tried to take a step yesterday but fell flat on her face. Poor girl. Besides that, we're still waiting on her top two front teeth to come in. The two teeth next to her front teeth have already come in, so she looks like a vampire! Let's see... what else... I recently joined a mom's group, so Audrey's been able to "socialize" with other kids a lot lately. She really enjoys being around other children. Kinda makes me want to have another baby soon. But, we're definitely waiting. Thank goodness for this mom's group!

This weekend DH & I are spending our first night away from Audrey on Saturday. We are celebrating our 3rd anniversary (a little early) with a night away at a nice hotel in downtown. Audrey will be staying with my mom, who is more than capable of taking great care of her. I'm looking forward to sleeping in!!!

Nikkid - How cool that Jaxson is starting to walk! He's such a cutie pie!!

lynnh - That's a great picture!

MMH, J&K - Cute pumpkin patch pictures! I can't wait to take Audrey to the pumpkin patch. :)

jjohm - Ryan is adorable! Looks like he has a lot of friends. :)

Jules How nice for you. You deserve a night away :) That's amazing that Audrey can stand alone! Where have our babies gone!?

Well J. has his first real cold. I have it too. We were up most of the night together. His nose is a bit stuffy and that's about it, but he's teething too so he is miserable. We're both exhausted and my DH is out of the country for work in Korea for 11 days! Wahhh!

All the pictures of the babies are adorable!! They are all getting so big so fast! Where does the time go?

Question: Is anyone giving their DC's finger food? If so, what are you giving your DC? Josh has had Gerber puffs, pieces of banana, Zwiebeck toast and some soft potatoe so far...

Here are some recent pics of Josh enjoying the last swim of the season last weekend!

KRL - Ugh, sorry you guys are sick. :( Plus, teething and no DH! You must be miserable. You'll deserve a night away, too, after this!

jeninef - Josh is getting so big!

finger foods - Audrey gets small pieces of cooked sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots and green beans (I cook them and then freeze them in individual freezer bags to use later). She also gets cheerios, ripe mango pieces, and teething biscuits.

Cute pictures everyone!

I'm waaaay behind, but maybe I can be more active now because today is my first day of being a SAHM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH had been home with DD while I worked, but he got a new job, so I quit mine.

DD is crawling like a mad woman, creeping along the furniture, walls, and anything else that she can grab on to, but is still way too unsteady to do any standing or walking by herself.

Finger foods... DD eats Cheerios, Veggie Booty, small pieces of cooked sweet potatoes and beans, pieces of oranges (with the tough skin removed), small pieces of cooked noodles, teething biscuits. I just got some apples from the market, so if we get around to it we'll try some grated apple this afternoon.

Congrats Elladee, I'm sure you will love staying at home! It can be challenging at times but it is so worth it.

Speaking of SAH...do any of you SAHM's have issues with your DH? We kind of got into it the other day. My DH always seems to have other things to do when he gets home from work, I would say 3 nights a week he has some activity outside the house planned. This leaves me with a LONG day at home. The way he sees it is that he has a long day at work, and he needs "down time" when he gets home. I guess I just don't see how playing with your own baby can be a hardship? And when do I get a break, ya know?

Sorry to complain...

In other news, are all our babies STTN? DD goes to bed at 8pm, I nurse at 10pm and then she wakes once during the night. I'm wondering if this is how it's going to be until she stops nursing?

DD also stopped nursing during the day. She just won't do it. So it's a constant battle to keep her hydrated. Ugggg.

No crawling yet, but she is trying hard!

elladee, welcome to the world of SAHM!! You're gonna love it! :)

Jack is crawling all over the place now. There's nothing that will get in his way. And I feel sorry for any one or any thing that thinks they can come between him and his food! There's nothing he won't eat. Lately he's not all that interested in purees, he'd much rather have what's on our plate. So I've just been cutting up what we eat into small pices and he loves it. Last night he had homemade chicken and noodles and couldn't get enough. I can't wait to see what the doctor thinks at his WBV (he's such a chunk!)

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i162/mom2jackryan/Jack473.jpg

STTN Well, we were making it from about 7:30pm until about 6am of solid sleep, but the last few nights he's not been such the good sleeper. I think he's trying to get a few new teeth, so I'm sure that's some of the problem. But thankfully he doesn't wake up to nurse in the middle of the night anymore (I think he has plenty of food in storage for the long night :p )

DH issues It's not so much evenings after work that I find myself getting frustrated about, it's the weekends. Lately DH has wanted to stay out on Friday nights or spend all day Saturday goin' to a football game (which sometimes includes an overnight stay because the games are 2.5 hrs from home). That leaves me at home yet another day by myself with Jack. Don't get me wrong, I love this lil boy to death, but sometimes mommy needs a break for her own sanity!

STTN No way! She was doing great a couple of months ago - only waking once to eat then going right back down. But now? Ugh. Teething threw a monkey wrench in that plan. Oh, and she figured out how to pull herself up to stand in her crib and she likes to "practice" that a few times a night.

Last night, DH stayed up with her, which resulted in her being so overstimulated that she stayed up for TWO HOURS (12:30am - 2:30am). He finally pleaded exhaustion and came to bed, leaving me with an overtired, overstimulated baby. Thanks! I put her in her crib and let her fuss. She was OUT within 2 minutes. DH does not understand that he shuldn't interact with her in the middle of the night or it'll just prolong her wakefullness.

Cold Micki has her first real cold right now. She's coughing - poor thing couldn't figure out how to cough until last night. We'd take her paci out and she'd just whine and cry in this super raspy voice. It was so sad. Once she figured out how to cough, she'd cough once, then cry because either the sound scared her or the sensation scared her. My poor lil' mama! :( I stayed home from work yesterday and she got some great rest, so she's on the mend now.

Finger Foods She's still very much into purees. I've tried giving her finger foods (puffs, pieces of WW toast, graham pieces) and she gags almost everytime. Does anyone's kid still gag on finger foods? I get SO nervous when we try finger foods cause I'm afraid she'll choke.

A few piccies (she's such a ham)

Adorable pictures everyone!

As for what's new here...

T is not crawling but does like to stand up if he gets help or can lean against something. He plays endlessly with his toys and shows no interest in discovering the rest of the house!

Sleeping is still going extremely well (and I count my blessings every day!). However, he has started to wake up covered in pee, so tonight we are trying the Huggies Overnights (we had been using Cruisers day and night). We'll see how it goes. He sleeps 12-13 hours straight, and the leaks started because he just started flipping over to his stomach right when we put him down.

Eating is going well too and he is also showing more interest in finger foods rather than the purees. I'm kind of at a confused point about what to give him (I make my own food) because if I give him thicker or chunkier purees he sometimes gags, but there are only so many foods that I can give as finger foods at this stage that he can mash with his gums (he has two bottom teeth and one coming in on top). There is a 2 or 3-page spread in the October issue of Parents magazine that shows 52 ideas for finger foods and what size to cut them into, and that has helped with ideas. I really just need to be better at having a stockpile of various cooked fruits and veggies like jules has.

On the topic of food: Our ped is pretty strict about no wheat, corn (preferably all gluten products) and absolutely no dairy until one year. Has anyone else been told this? I am starting to realize just how extreme she can be about certain things and am trying to make my own decisions about this.

Congrats Elladee! I hope you enjoy SAM as much as I do. (I only work a few hours/week.)

I don't think I've yet posted Congrats to aligirl on #2. We talk about #2more and more often in my house...

Jules - enjoy your overnight!

STTN - Audrey STTN from about 7pm-7am. She's a good night sleeper, but naps are another story. For example, she's been in her crib for the past 45 minutes mumbling and moaning b/c she will not go down for her 9am nap.

Medako - Look at your big guy! I know someone who's gonna be a future football player. ;)

jennapeach - Micki is too cute! You can tell she has such personality.

Taurus - I haven't really talked to Audrey's ped about what to restrict in her diet. :o I've already given her wheat (teething biscuits) and dairy (yogurt & cheese). I'm definitely going to wait on whole milk until 1 year, and I'll probably do the same with corn and strawberries. I probably need to talk about this with her ped at her next appt!

Medako
10-12-2006, 09:34 AM
We haven't really discussed waht to restrict in Jack's diet either. Like jules though, we are gonna wait until 1 year to give whole milk and some of the other big allergy triggers (strawberries, large amounts of dairy, etc). Like I've said before, he gets pretty much what we have lately. Last night he really enjoyed some refried beans that I used in a recipe.

jennapeach You might have one of the prettiest babies I've ever seen. She's gorgeous! You have any boyfriends lined up already?? I have a lil football player always on the lookout for a cute cheerleader. ;)

Good morning everyone!

Medako- People are forever calling my hearty guy a future football player as well. I broke down and agreed he could dress up as one for Halloween. I got a costume on clearance and it should be pretty amusing.

Diet- It was more my ped bringing it up than me. My sister is in the same practice but sees a different doctor, and he told her that her that my ped and him openly and strongly disagree on the topic. He told my sis to start dairy and other stuff. I guess it's just another example of multiple-points-of-view-make-your-own-decisions--like so much else of parenting!

I forgot to post last night what finger foods we have done.

Whole Foods Organic Morning O's oat cereal
Whole Foods Organic Rice Puffs cereal
Organic brown rice cakes, broken into pieces
cooked, diced veggies and fruits (apple, pear, sweet potato, peach, necatrine, green beans, carrots)
banana pieces
frozen peas, cooked and sort of squashed

He is just extremely adept at picking up foods. Cooked fruits were too slippery at first, but since nothing can keep him from his food, he just sat there and struggled until he mastered it! We have to give him pieces slowly because he will get them all in his mouth within seconds.

I just bought some brown rice pasta and the only ingredients are rice and water, so if I continue this no-wheat thing (????) I can now at least give him pasta. I am going to do "smashed" whole (cooked or canned) beans, too.

Awww thanks for the compliments, KRL626, MMH, jules and Medako. We actually submitted Micki's pics into a local talent agency (we live in LA), so we'll see what happens. Maybe Baby Gap can pay for some of her college. ;) Medako, Micki is already quite smitten with her beau, Bug
http://store.babycenter.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/30176_202286_md.jpg

but, I'm sure she'd be willing to get to know your football player. She's always up for a good head-butt or two. :D

Food Our ped told us no dairy at her 6 month visit, but I've started giving her Yo Baby and she really likes it. She didn't mention anything about wheat, corn though. We try graham crackers, puffs, cherrios and/or tiny bits of whole wheat bread every few days and she's been fine.

elladee
10-12-2006, 11:47 AM
Diet Restrictions: At her 6 month check up, our ped said no tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, or eggs till one year. Everything else is fair game, but we're supposed to keep an eye on her after she has the other potential allergins (dairy, strawberries, etc) the first few times.

STTN: Ha ha ha ha ha ha. I bet I've got the worst sleeper here. We're still up every 2 hours. I can't remember what it's like to feel rested. I think that problem is/was that DD was never big on the bottles. She'd drink maybe 12 oz while I was at work. So she'd make up for it at night. I'm really hoping now that I'm home, she'll nurse more during the day and need to eat less at night.

Diet - DD has pretty much had about everything on the "no" list! We really haven't been too careful about what we give her. Of course, she hasn't had milk or eggs, but she has had things with milk and eggs in them. She has also had strawberries and corn. She seems fine! I've also given her salmon which she really liked.

I have a whole new respect for single parents. My DH has been out of town hunting for the past 6 days and it's getting really OLD. I have a really bad cold and just want to lay down. It's impossible however with an squiggly 8 month old. Granted, it's really just a couple of hours at night that he is missed, but geez, I am TIRED.

STTN - Still a no go here. Not as bad as Ella has it, but I can't remember what a full night is like!

It is still in the 70's here in Boise, Idaho. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

It's been way too loong since I've been by. I've been back at work for 3 weeks now, so I'm catching up quickly at work.

We have the cutest babies in here!

DS started daycare 3 days a wk, and is doing really well with it. He's still not crawling, but totally gets up on his hands and toes and looks like he's ready to cruise.

Diet restrictions: My ped hasn't said much, except no whole milk and no nuts if this allergy runs in our family. I guess she figures that since he's my 3rd DC, I know what I can and can't give him. So far, he eats basically everything we eat. Hes on only a few purees a wk, that I send to daycare incase he's still hungry. He's haid dairy, wheat, eggs, strawberries. He loves all foods, and does really well with the finger foods.

Thankfully, DS sleeps through the night, on average 11 hours. We have the same problem as Taurus and the leaky diaper. We'll have to try the Huggies overnights. We already put him to bed in a larger size diaper, but obviously, that's not working!!

I'll have to catch up some more a bit later. Here's a recent pic of the little guy:
