jjohm and anon - i agree, there are so many little changes each day and they are capable of new things all the time. sure, we've had some sleep issues but DH and I always remind ourselves of this...and that DS is a mere 12 weeks old.

speaking of daily changes, anon, no sooner had i written that post about feeding when DS needed an extra TWO ounces after taking his usual 5 oz.!!

Correcting myself...he took 2 oz. after taking his usual 6 oz., not 5.

We just came back from WBV.

2 months
height: 23.5 inches
weight: 12# 11 oz.

Both height and weight are 75%. Considering that JR started as 10% (6lbs 2oz) at birth, he is doing really well. He also got 4 shots. Looking at him getting shots were so sad, but I think he already forgot. He is happily sleeping now. Mommy is still in shock. :(

I asked Dr about vomiting (JR has been vomiting quite a lot these days. He cries when he vomits too). Dr said I might feed him a little too much. How often do you feed your baby? I feed him about 7 times a day. He STTN, so that means I feed him every 2-3 hours. I have to admit that I sometimes nurse him to stop him from crying even though I nursed him less than two hours ago. It's so much easier to calm him down by nursing than by any other methods. I know.. bad lazy mommy. What do you all do?

What beautiful babies this thread has!

We had our 2 month WBV today too:
Height - 21.5" (1 month was 20" BTW - I didn't have that in my last post)
Weight - 8lb 14oz

As you can see, my little guy's a tiny one - less than 5th percentile for weight. He spent the first half of his second month losing weight from reflux and the second half gaining it back plus a little more. He appears to finally be on the right track now so we're just grateful for that and hoping he keeps up the weight gain. Poor guy.

J&K - In answer to your reflux questions... We had Caleb on Zantac for about a week & a half before we really started seeing improvement. Of course, we started him on Reglan about that time too. So I don't know which one it is, but he's been doing so much better since his hospital stay on the 1st. As far as giving the medicine, we started doing what the nurses at the hospital did with the Zantac - we give it to him with a little bit of EBM in a bottle at the very beginning of his feeding. From what the doctors and nurses tell me, the Zantac must taste terrible because no babies seem to like it straight. Our little guy was making the funniest faces :D and then spitting it all out when we tried to give it to him straight. But the Reglan we give to him straight no problem. I just squirt it in his mouth and put his pacifier in real quick and it usually works fine. I could never do that fast enough with the Zantac.

Don't have time for all the QOTD's but I thought I'd contribute to the crying baby pictorial. This was taken when he was only about a week old:

Froggie - I've always been told that you can not over feed a BF baby. They take what they need. Just because he's sucking doesn't mean he's taking in milk w/ all of those sucks. I'm like you - I nurse Nate every 2-3 hours and any time in between when nothing else works. My LC and I have talked about this and she said "don't you think babies get thursty too? We don't just drink when we are eating our meals." Good point, I think, especially as the temperatures get higher. Nate's just starting to spit up a bit, I'm sure very little compared to JR from the sounds of it. Wish I had more insite for you on the vomiting, but Aaron hardly spit up at all. I know, I'm a lucky momma!

QOTD.....Ashley had 8oz this morning, before daycare she was doing 4 oz and the 1st day at daycare she had 5oz and it was uphill from then on. I try to start her on 5 oz and if she still appears to be hungry I giuve her 2-3 more oz.

I started putting alittle rice cereal inher bottle in the evening (I know so many have sworn against this) trust me I've gotten the looks  and the advice but I did the same with my son and he's fine no problems. Ashley slurps up te cereal in her milk. I think when she turns 4 months we will try feeding it to her with a spoon.

QOTD???? For those who are paying daycare have you notice a HUGE difference in your wallet? We sure have we pay $240 a week and boy oh! boy are we feeling it!!!Not to mention before/after care for our 10 year old.

Happy Monday everyone. Today is my first day back at work. So far it's been kind of fun. I teared up a little when I left this morning, but as soon as I was out of the house I was fine. We're lucky that DH can work from home. He's only doing ~20 hours/week, too. So I'm sure that makes it easier to leave the baby. The novelty of work will probably wear off soon, but right now I'm really enjoying being out of the house. It's nice to have conversations with people who can talk back!

Great pictures everyone!

Jack is eating about 4 times a day and STTN for 7-8 hours. He's not much of a crier (unless he thinks he's by himself) so he doesn't get nursed just to calm him down. Generally if he's getting fussy and it's not his normal time to eat, he's sleepy and is just fighting it....so I swaddle him up tight and put him to sleep for a little while.

A few pictures to drop off...

ITA!! Today is my first day back too and I bawled after I dropped Alex off at his babysitter's but it's been pretty nice catching up with everyone. My coworkers decorated my cube with balloons and a welcome back sign and food - very sweet! :) I miss him a lot though. I've never left him for longer than 5 hours and that was with my parents on Friday for a Cardinals game!!! I can't wait to leave in 30 minutes and go pick him up!

Ali - sorry to hear about the rough morning - I know it is not much consolation but it does get a little better. DS is like yours a little guy, only in the 5th percentile for wt but really tall.

Froggie - Agree with Lynn - I bf DS every 3 hours or so and when I am not there he takes about 3-4 oz out of the bottle. He spits up a bit afterward most times, DD never did so we were a bit freaked at first.

Medako - Darling pix!

Sympathy to those returning back to work I go back next Monday. We were out of town for Easter, Mo did quite well considering he was passed around like a rag doll.

QOTD???? For those who are paying daycare have you notice a HUGE difference in your wallet? We sure have we pay $240 a week and boy oh! boy are we feeling it!!!Not to mention before/after care for our 10 year old.

This is exactly us. Only we pay $235 a week for three in daycare, I can't imagine just one!! I also have a 9 yr old that we pay after school care for. I'm so glad we saved $1,000 to pay for his care for this summer. It is really breaking us too but we figured this will be our hardest time financially with three kids in daycare. Our next child doesn't start school for another 2 1/2 years so if we can make it through until then then we should be sitting nicely.

Sorry for those of you who are startin back to work. I feel like I've been back to work forever now. I guess it's been about 9 weeks now.

We went out of town for Easter with just the two older boys and my mom watched Jaxson and my DD. This was the first time I left him overnight, it was tough but I was soo excited to see him yesterday. He was full of smiles when he saw me so I guess he remembered me! I've missed so many QOTD's since I hardly get time to post anymore. I'm on break at work right now.

Jaxson has been doing really well. He had a stretch of about a week he was STTN but then he stopped and started getting up a couple times a night. It sounds a lot like what you other mothers have gone through so I think it was a growth spurt. Now he is sleeping better and goes down around 10 and sleeps until about 5, eats and then goes down again for 2-3 more hours so I can't complain.

No more kids!!! We figured four is plenty for us so we are not having any more. Actually DH was suppose to get his vasectomy twice now but had to reschedule both times. It will happen soon but I can't wait to get off these BCPs!

Jaxson eats anywhere from 4-6 ozs. I haven't really tried more than that yet. He's a big boy though. He smiles constantly and has been doing some giggling every once and awhile. He's started holding on to rattles recently and then starts to suck on them. I think he may be possibly teething. My DD got her first tooth at 4 1/2 months and I know it took a good month before it finally popped through so he could be teething now.

I love all the baby pics, they are so adorable. I will have to post some new ones of Jaxson when I get a free minute at home but that rarely happens.

We are feeling it too. I have two under 18 months, so we are paying the infant rate for both kids. Here the weekly rate is $210. But most of the other daycares are closer to the $235-260 range. I pretty much work for benefits, bills and gas money. I cant afford to work, but I can't afford to not work.

I hear ya this is me too working for bills, gas money (jsut filled up and it cost $32.00) I can't afford to work or not to work either. I just looked into the Childcare voucher program.. you can't make more then $35,000 for a family of 4. Imake more then that alone. It really sucks b/c it's like you have to have 50 kids to get help.

DH and I are just gonna have to continue to budget :D The joys of parenthood!!!

We had our 2 month Dr visit last Friday...

Weight - 13.5
Height - 24 1/2

Max also got his shots which was not fun for any of us! Luckily the nurse was very fast, but his poor little eyes bugged out of his head and then he screamed so loud I think only dogs could hear him.
As soon as I picked him up he was fine, but then a few hours later he started screaming again. He has never cried like that before! I think his legs must have been a little sore...we gave him some tylenol and he slept it off.

Here is our crying picture, and then an Easter one just for fun. :)

Forgot to chime in about day care. We will be doing in home daycare starting in the fall and it still runs $200/week. We had the biggest time finding a place that would mesh with my schedule (I am a teacher and only wanted Mo in day care 1 day/week in the summers). When I go back next week, my husband and the grandparents are going to split the time until the summer.

I believe the next round of shots is at the 4 month mark.

Oh boy do we hear ya - we pay $600 a week for our nanny - that is for both kids though. I almost gag every week when we pay her but she is fantastic.

Drake is on day 10 of no poop, we have another appt with the gi specialist tomorrow. - ugh poor guy.

I'm so proud of Audrey! She rolled over (back to stomach) for the first time on Saturday!!! :D Yay! DH was able to catch it on video, too. Now she wants to roll over all the time. And, when she gets on her stomach, she starts crying b/c she can't move. She get's so frustrated, it's cute.

Anon25, tinagirl, Medako, edsbabyrhi, aligirl, sunflower - Great pictures! Everyone's babies are so cute!!

sunflower - DD's next round of shots is at 4 months.

J&K2003 - How long did it take for your DD to take a bottle again? We're still having a hard time... it's been a week and she still refuses it. :(

sunflower for us the shots go like this: 2mos, 4 mos, 6 mos, 12 mos then at either there 15 mo or 18 mo appt. We do see the Dr at 9 mos but they don't give shots at that one. I'm sure it's different at every office but that's how we do it.

Jules yay for Audrey rolling over! That's cool you got it on videotape too. Jaxson it getting really close too. I almost don't want him to though because then I will have to put him in his crib. I'm not ready for him to share a room with his sister yet. Isn't it funny that they work so hard to get to their tummys and then once they are there they don't want to be there. Just wait until she rolls from tummy to back, she will be rolling all over the place!

Speaking of rolling over... I'm afraid Nate will never do that! I know it's too early for him, but I can't really put him on the floor w/o his big brother smothering him! Moms of two or more - how do you get your older kid(s) to leave the baby alone? Aaron's always giving Nate kisses and hugs. Sweet, yes. But, Nate doesn't always like it and Aaron doesn't get the hint.

Very cute photo's ladies!

Good question. We have the same problem here. I try to have a little tummy time with DD #2 when DD #1 is napping or in preschool a few days a week. But then again I am usually running errands, going on playdates, etc. when DD #1 is in school so we aren't getting enough floor time either.

We had our two-month appointment last Thursday and it went very, very well. He got his shots, and the experience was not as horrific as we thought it would be. Jack took it like a man!!

Vitals:
11 pounds, 15 ounces
23 inches long
50 percentile for both length and height

I think this was taken last week after his bath. Man does he love his bath time!!!

Sorry I can't answer the QOTD, but I'll grab a crying photo and share that as well.

Your babies are all so cute! jjohm, that hair just cracks me up!

My first week of work is almost done. It really wasn't that bad at all. QOTD for the rest of you who are working... Anyone else not feel bad about leaving their babies? I think I'd rather be at home playing, because well work is work, but it doesn't bother me to leave her. I'd be great if I didn't have this nagging thought in my head that maybe I'm not a good mom because I'm so detached from her. I try to tell myself that that's silly, but I can't quite make myself believe it.

I love all of the pics and wanted to add a few of my own, along with an update....

Well I cannot believe that Nathan is 6 1/2 weeks old!!! He's getting to be so much fun!!! (I'm sure it will only get better with time). This week has been full of shockers for me. On Tuesday he magically decided that tummy time wasn't such a horrible thing, still not a great thing but we can get around 5 minutes at a time a couple of times a day. He also decided his crib was kind of cool again and now he naps in it. (We're going to try sleeping in it tonight since there is no work tomorrow.) Now for the real shocker he slept for 7 and a half hours tuesday night and then 7 hours last night. Wednesday night was a little off b/c grandma and grandpa babysat and couldn't find his good swaddling blanket (that I left out ready to go on the bed). Let's hope this continues!!!

QOTD - Elladee, my girlfriend went back after 6 weeks because she just had to to maintain her sanity and I don't think she felt much guilt. I think it really differs for everyone. I'm at work part-time this week and then have a few more weeks at home because daycare is not ready to take him and today is miserable. I just want to cry and go home. I feel like no job is worth it. But my sister was the same way with work. She never considered not working and they could afford to have her stay home.

That reminds me I need to get Jack's easter photo

I can't believe its been three months. Breastfeeding is going pretty well these days. Sleep is eh. Four hours straight at night as about average. He's still co-sleeping, which I'm not thrilled about. Last night we started him off in the basinette and he actually stayed there for a couple of hours. Maybe this weekend we can keep working on that.

QOTD- Anyone noticing that baby's eyes are starting to change color?
About a week ago I started to notice that Jack's eyes seem to be changing color. They are starting to look lighter and maybe a bit hazel around the pupil.

We had our 3 month WBV yesterday. DS grew quite a bit in one month:

14 lbs, 11 oz (75th %!!)
23 inches (20th %)

We had both Passover and Easter festivities in the past week, but here is an Easter pic. I'll be removing it soon, but I couldn't help join in on all the fun Easter pictures. Sticking out the tongue for pictures is a new thing he's got going:

(Photo removed)

QOTD DS was born with blue eyes and they are as blue today as they were the day he was born. DH and I have hazel and none of our parents or siblings have blue eyes (but some of our grandparents do), so we're curious to see what will happen to DS's eyes. I was born with blue eyes but my mom says they had definitely changed by this age.

Work - Part of me feels really guilty about leaving him and part of me doesn't. It differs every day for me - it depends a lot on if he's awake when we drop him off so that I can say good-bye. I'm also getting slightly jealous  of our babysitter because he (fortunately) seems to be taking so well to her. I hate that she gets to bond with him and I don't because I'm at work. BUT i don't miss changing his big poopy diaper that she does... man, those stink!! :p

Eyes - Alex's eyes are almost as blue as when he was born and they'll likely stay that way since both of us have blue eyes. They were a little more grayish when he was born. I'm just curious if they'll stay the shade they are now - if they do, he'll have his momma's eyes :D They're really dark like mine are - like an indigo color - and look great with blues & grays.

I went back to work today. I know it is weird to back on a Friday, but that is how my leave worked out. I am glad that I came back today and not a monday. Now I have the weekend to work out my feelings. I was really upset leaving Alex today, but as the day went on it was okay. He got to stay home with daddy today though. He goes to the babysitter on Monday, so I guess we will see how well I am doing then.

For some reason my info didn't get updated so here it is again:

CC Name: michiganbride
DS: Alex
Me: Allison, 24
DH: Andy,28
Married: 06-04-05

I go to bf support groups every tuesday evening and the last time I went Alex was 13.9 lb what a chunk. Hopefully sometime I can figure out how to post some pictures of him.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sorry, michiganbride, us mods seem to be way way behind with the updates. Hopefully when things get back to normal here at work next week I can do some catching up. I saw you tried to put your pic up with Shutterfly... they aren't allowing picture hosting anymore. You can still use Snapfish, or a site like Photobucket or Flikr.

J&K2003 - How long did it take for your DD to take a bottle again? We're still having a hard time... it's been a week and she still refuses it. :(

Sorry jules that I'm just now answering you- I went back to work last Tuesday :( and didn't catch up on the thread until now. To answer your question, DD got better with the bottle after about a week, I'd say. She does still have her fussy days with it now, though, like last Friday with grandma. How are things going now?

elladee-Heading back to work tomorrow. I am just excited to go back to work (I teach 2/3 grade) not really sad about leaving DS. It could be that my MIL is staying here and watching him for the next 2 weeks (we are spliting the time til summer break amoung family since it is only 7 weeks). Maybe it will hit me tomorrow but right now I have almost no anxiety (although I just spent an hour going over things with the MIL, not like she raised 3 kids of her own as a SAHM)

I get a kick out of all the pictures and seeing who owns the same outfits as Mo.

QOTDWho is getting their kiddo baptised? And when? Is there a preference as to attire? Mo is getting baptised Memorial Day weekend and I am trying to decide if I want him to wear a gown from DH childhood or the suit DH was baptised in or if I want to buy something.

Baptism

We had Nathan baptized on April 9th. We ended up opting away from the baptismal gown MIL had (it was way to girly - very very lacey). We got a nice outfit at Strasberg Children. We consulted BIL & SIL as well since we'd like to start a tradition with this outfit for the boys in the family. He's also wearing the sweater my grandmother knitted for him which made her so happy (and me too!)

Here's a picture.

Just checking in for a few...

We had Michaela's 2 month WBV about 2 weeks ago. Here stats:

9 pounds, 2 ounces
22 inches long
50th percentile for both length and 25th percentile for height

Caught one of her last week crying:

Hee!

We got Michaela baptized on Easter Sunday. We used the gown that my bro and I wore when we were baptized. My mom made it while she was PG with my brother. We're lucky that my grandfather was able to perform the baptism, as he had when I was baptized. It was a very nice day, but I wish I had taken more pics. My mom took a few, but I need to get her to upload them to my Fotki site.

Micki is trying to get her thumb. I'm really hoping she'll get it soon, because she just seems so discontent, trying to get it.

I don't go back to work until the second week in June, but I'm already dreading it. We're actively looking for childcare now - I wish my folks could watch her, but they're an hour away. :(

To answer your question, DD got better with the bottle after about a week, I'd say. She does still have her fussy days with it now, though, like last Friday with grandma. How are things going now? I think we may have turned a corner! I went to a book club on Saturday night with my girlfriends, so DH was home alone with Audrey for 5 hours. After some fussing, she eventually did take about 2 oz. from the bottle then fell asleep. So I guess if she gets hungry enough she'll take it! That makes me feel a bit better. :) Thanks for your help!

Jenna Love the pic

krl I love the pic just before crying, looks alot like Alex

Jordan what a cutie

Alex is finally sleeping through the night. I have to get up after 8 hours and pump. Then he gets up usually after 10hrs. It is great. We have had such a hard time getting him to sleep that we are just amazed. The LC have told me that I should watch my supply if it decreases because of his eating that I should start waking him up after about 4 hrs. I don't know if I want to do that!

Hopefully I can post some pics of Alex through snapfish. Thanks for the advise.

We don't go back to the doctor for another few weeks, but we put Jack on same mailing scales on Friday just to get an idea of what he's weighing now. My big chunk was 13 weeks and weighs about 18.5 lbs! No wonder my arms are always tired these days.

Jack is sleeping like a champ lately too. He'll go from 8pm until 5am and if he isn't awake on his own, I'll wake him up to eat. Then he'll fall back asleep for another couple of hours. And since we've put him in his crib instead of the bassinet to sleep, he's gone in longer streches.

Anyone else start putting away clothes the babies are outgrowing? Yesterday I went through Jack's stuff and pulled all of the 0-3 stuff and boxed it up. It's a little sad to think that my baby is growing so fast....not to mention how upsetting it is that I packed away stuff with the tags still on because he outgrew them before we even got a chance to wear them. At the rate he's growing, it won't be long before we're putting away the 3-6 stuff (since he's already above the weigh scale on most of them).

michiganbride - That's great that your DS is STTN! :) If he's gaining weight well and has enough wet diapers, I wouldn't worry about waking him up at night to feed him. Audrey STTN since she was a month old until recently, now she's waking up every 3 hours again. If he gets hungry, he'll wake up. As for your milk, since it's based on supply & demand and you really don't need it right now, then yeah, your milk supply will lower at night. But if he does start waking again and wanting to eat, it'll come back but might take a day or two.

medako - Wow - you do have a big baby! I put away Audrey's 0-3 month over a month ago. I weighed her last week and she was 15 lbs. Now her 3-6 month clothes are getting a little snug, and she's already fitting into some 6 month clothes! I can't believe how fast she's growing! I have some newborn outfits that I'm probably going to sell on ebay, since she never even fit into them.

I also have a big boy! I weighed myself and then weighed me holding him and it also said 18 lbs! He goes in for his 4 mo WBV next week so we will see how close we are.

I've already sold a lot of Jaxson's 0-3 mos clothes on a rummage sale and I noticed that his 3-6 mos clothes are starting to get snug too. I was actually going to go through his 6-9 mos clothes to see what he had and could wear but I didn't get a chance to do that this weekend. My mom is having another rummage sale in the next couple of months and I will probably try to sell his 3-6 mos clothes. It's amazing how fast they grow out of it.

QOTD I'm a bad mommy and haven't baptized any of my kids. When I was pg with DD I said I wanted to wait until she was born and do them all at the same time. That never happened so when I was pg with Jaxson I said the same thing. We still haven't set up anything. DH feels guilty about doing it since we never go to church, we just don't have the patience to bring three little kids to church and we know they won't sit in a nursery. I know it's a poor excuse and we need to get on it. I still have the forms to fill out on the fridge from two years ago.

Nate's baptism is this Sunday. He's going to wear the outfit that my brother had for his - it's a little shorts outfit. Aaron wore it too. I just hope it fits Nathan since I think he's a bit bigger than Aaron was for his since he was born bigger and he's getting baptised 2 weeks later. Must get on that!

clothes - Nate's just starting to fit his 3-6 month clothes. Since most of the stuff was his brothers, I'm not very sentimental about it.

Baptism - we're planning to get Esther baptised on June 11th. My mom has the gown that my brothers and I wore, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm not sure if it'll fit because DH and I have been big slackers on this baptism thing and Esther will be 5 months old by the time we get to it.

Clothes - Esther's mostly in 3-6 month stuff and has been for a while. I've got a rubbermaid tub in the basement for the baby clothes she out grows. I've been putting things in it for a while now, but it's still sad. I just had to put away these adorable flowered denim overalls that I loved.

we're jewish, so no baptism here. we are having a baby naming on saturday at my parent's temple to formally give the babies their hebrew names and introduce them to jewish life. normally, it would only be for a girl, but we're having it for both babies since ds's bris was a very small thing with just parents and sisters. it's usually something that everyone attends but because he was in the NICU and very small and susceptible to germs, we limited it. so the baby naming will be for both of them!

clothing...the babies are both almost 10 lbs., so we're not out of 0-3 yet! the only stuff that's a little snug is their preemie clothing and their 'up to 7 lbs.' clothing! silly small babies!

Baptism--we're pretty much atheist-agnostic, so no baptism here either. (Though we got a ton of pressure from my parents' pastor, which really hacked me off. One polite suggestion, fine; calling to push me about it more than once when I have already made our position clear, no.)

Clothes--Annika has outgrown a few of her very smallest newborn-size things, but most stuff in the 0-3 size still fits her. The "newborn" size dress she wore home from the hospital still fits just fine and, in fact, is only now not humongous on her.

Pet photos? Oh yeah. Here's our 17-year-old cat investigating the house's newest lap:

Well...I think we are getting a hang of this mom and dad thing. I still have my doubts though. Jack's a crier and it worries me that he's not happy - that I don't do enough playing with the right toys to make him happy. He seems to love to watch TV, which annoys me to no end - anyone else dealing with this? I know he likes to bright lights, but I'm still annoyed.

Any ideas for fun playtime activities with my kid??

Sophia - You mentioned your baby is only sleeping 4 hours and you are co-sleeping. Our Ped. told us to move Jack out of our room and he'll sleep longer. It worked. He now goes 6 hours and skips a feeding usually. He's not sleeping through the night, but it's enough to keep me sane (somewhat). Just a thought for you!!

Everyone's kids are so cute!! I still need to upload that Easter photo.

QOTD - No baptism here. Hus is Jewish so we opted not to Baptize.

We let her watch it. :o That is, if I'm holding her and the TV is on and she starts following it...well, I don't think it's a huge, horrible thing. She's interested in absolutely everything around her--her great big eyes just follow everything, from the pattern on the pillows on the front porch settee to the dog to her toy giraffe. We don't get too worried if she's also following the images on the TV.

(Of course, one of these days soon we're going to have to start making sure she's out of the room before we watch Law and Order.)

Wow the past 2 days have been crazy.

elladee back to work went pretty well. The kids were so happy to see me. Yesterday and today were a whirlwind as I was just trying to get a handle on the stuff my sub covered and the stuff that needs to get done before the end of the year (I have been out since Christmas break, due to PG issues) plus the fun stuff I want to do. The hardest part for me is definitely the physical part. With DS still doing 2 nightly feedings and dealing with NoVa traffic, I have to leave my house around 7:30 AM which means I get up around 6:15 and then I don't return until 5:30 or so. That's a 10 hour day which is killing me. Luckily I only have 7 weeks to go and then I am looking for a position closer, with a shorter contract day (I currently teach at a private school).

ClothesDS is wierd when it comes to sizes. He is extremely long but skinny so he still fits some 0-3 clothes but also some 6-9 clothes. I have thrown all his outgrown clothes in his crib since he is cosleeping, this weekend I plan on packing it all up since we are planning on having more.

TVDH and I were just talking about this and how we should start limiting the amount of TV we have on just as background noise. It occasionally catches his attention but no real staring. Tried to use Baby Einstein to calm him down while he was at his reflux fussiest and it would catch his attention for 10 mins at most. I am pretty glad, I am definitely of the no-very limited amount of TV until they are like 2 or 3 mindset.

baptism: we haven't really discussed this, although i am so surprised my in-laws (catholic) haven't brought it up. DH and I go to a non-denominational church so there's a baby dedication ceremony, but no baptism. i don't mind doing a baptismal ceremony, but i'm not sure of the rules in their church, like if i have to convert (!??)

clothes: DS is in 3-6 months clothes, or carters 6m size. i haven't put the smaller clothes away yet, guess i will do that this weekend.

saturday, we're going to have a 100th day ceremony for DS...it's part of the korean culture. my brother is coming over to take pics for us (in lieu of studio portraits, which we cannot afford) and we're just having family over for dinner and cake. koreans say that the 100th day is a turning point for all babies, much like the 3 month milestones...we'll see!

yesterday, we gave our ryan a haircut! i was reluctant, but we were going to have to do it sooner or later.

jjohm...i cannot handle how cute your son is! that hair is amazing.

things are going well with the babies...as well as they can be with two cranky 3 month olds! developmental question: do your babies turn towards sounds yet? do they turn towards your voice? i have no idea when this happens, but mine aren't doing that yet. they don't respond to voice or the sounds of toys or anything. they're 3.5 months old (but i guess really 2.5 since they were a month early).

jjohm, those pics are adorable! We have the same tub. I cannot tell you how much it improved bathtime once we used the little hammock that comes with it!

angel, Micki is hit or miss with turning. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't. Guess it depends on how tired, cranky or happy she is. She'll be 11 weeks on Thursday for reference.

meatpie, Micki is a crier, too. She HATES her carseat, HATES to be put down, HATES taking naps. We're just figuring out little tricks to soothe and calm her. Mostly, I work hard to make sure she's napping - even if it means she sleeps in her swing, or falls asleep at the bottle/breast. Most days, I go out with her in the Bjorn just so she'll take a nap. She's much less fussy when she's well-rested.

clothes, Micki still wears her 0-3 mo clothes for the most part. There is one Old Navy one-piece that she's grown out of, lengthwise. Plus, she's starting to grow out of her little Gerber pants. She's at 50% height and 25% weight, though. I'm glad she can still wear her 0-3 clothes, because the weather is funky. All of her 3-6 clothes are short-sleeved and for warm weather. Her 0-3 clothes are mostly long-sleeved, so it's working out well. Can't wait for warmer weather!!

TV Occasionally, she'll watch the big, colorful box, I admit. :o But, her swing is out of sight from the TV and we play in the master bedroom where I usually don't have the TV on, so she's not seeing a whole lot of TV. My hubby wants to hook up the TV in the kids' room/nursery and I don't want to b/c I don't want her becoming a TV junkie.

Adorable pics, terrys wifey, aligirl, ginadc and meggers!

QOTD I am in need of advice or reassurance. For all the moms that are back to work and pumping, I was wondering how often and how much are you getting?

Alex's babysitter has been keeping track of how much he is eating and how often. He eats about every two to three hours and eats 6oz. WELL, I am only getting about 4-5oz every two hours. Should I be worried? What can I do?

elladee
04-26-2006, 10:23 AM
michiganbride I pump 3x per day and usually get around 15 oz total. My morning sessions are much more productive than the afternoon one. Esther usually drinks 4 3.5 oz bottles/day (every 2 hours unless she's doing a super nap). Seems like a lot that your DS is drinking. Is he spitting up much? When we first started giving Esther bottles, she'd want more than the 3-4 oz I was putting in, but she'd spit up afterwards. So we started giving her less and then trying a pacifier after to see if she was really hungry or just wanted to suck. Most times she just wanted to suck. Now she seems pretty content after a 3.5 oz bottle. In fact, if we put more in, she won't finish it all.

angelgirl8 Esther is hit or miss on the looking thing, too. I know she's hearing me... but it seems like she only looks at me if she wants to.

edsbabyrhi, glad things went pretty well for you. That is a long day. I hope you find something closer to home, I don't think I could handle much more than my 20 min commute.

jjohm, too adorable. I love that you left the top long.

Kate&Joey
04-26-2006, 11:41 AM
AOTD: I usually pump 3X per day and get around 14 oz. DS drinks 3 bottles during the day and I usually put 4.5 oz in 2 bottles and 4 oz in the last bottle (which is his last one before I get home). He nurses once more before bed, once in the morning before I leave for work and at least one nighttime feeding. Unfortunately for me and my sleep, sometimes he still nurses twice at night. He eats every three hours: 7AM, 10AM, 1PM, 4PM, 7PM, then the wildcard at night. Sometimes I get more during pumping sessions; sometimes I take the pump home to get a couple more ounces after DS goes to bed.

I've heard that babies who love to suck will take whatever you give them, even if they are full...just because it's so easy with the bottle. I wonder if you could cut back a bit? FWIW, DS weighed 13 pounds at his 2 month visit and is still really chunky so I'm sure he gets enough to eat.

TV: Last night I came home from work and DS was in his bouncy in front of Baby Einstein (that MIL bought for DS). :( I really wanted to restrict TV until the 2 year guideline, but I don't think DH is cooperating with that. DS always turns towards the TV. We try to just turn him so he can't see it, but he's always looking for it. Actually, the one benefit is that his tummy time improved dramatically when he's turned towards the TV. So I'll concede 5 minutes or so a day. :)

Clothes: We've blown through the 0-3 months and some of the 3-6 months are fitting just fine (not huge like the 0-3 months were in the beginnning). I put a plastic bin in his room and just put the outgrown clothes in it as they are laundered.

Baptism: Haven't done it yet. DS will wear DH's gown if we get out act together. Can't figure out where to have it done. We don't live near either one of our families so we keep going back and forth about where to have it.

angelgirl8-- Owyn only sometimes turns toward sounds.

michiganbride-- I pump 3x a day (9, 12, and 3) and usually get at least 16 oz. Owyn eats 4 3oz bottles at daycare. It seems like your DS is being fed too much. Kellymom has an article on how bottle-fed a breastfed baby (http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/bottle-feeding.html).

clothes-- Owyn was out of his 0-3 month clothes at 6 weeks. He is now getting close to being to big for his 3-6 month clothes. I have a pile of clothes that are too small that need to be put away.

Really cute pictures everyone!

Clothes - Definitely in 3-6 mos size now, or, depending on the brand, whatever the "12.5-16.5 lbs" size is called. I hate that we have so many 0-3 clothes that were hardly worn, I hope future children or friends' babies can get use out of them. We don't have much beyond the 6 mos sizes--it is going to be so strange (and fun...and expensive...) to "have" to shop for clothes for him. Almost every single thing he's worn so far has been a gift.

I think we are dealing with our first cold. We've had him sleep in his car seat again and we have to suction his nose regulary and use saline a lot, and all that has helped. He smiles through almost everything though; he's incredible!

We are supposed to go on our first trip this weekend up to a cabin in the mountains nearby. It will be interesting to pack for the first time with a baby in tow.

We had 3 month portraits done last weekend with DS and my sister's baby, who is 4 days younger. We took photos of the boys together and separate. It was cute, but I think I get bigger and better smiles on my own with my little digital camera! Probably wouldn't have done it if it hadn't been a "cousins" thing and a convenient gift for Mother's Day for the grandmothers. It will be much easier to do portraits when he can sit up on his own. The woman who took the pictures was a mom and was amazing with babies, that really helped.

Is anyone getting close to the date last year that they found out they were pg? I found out on May 16, which was/is also my birthday!

Baptism Alex is getting baptised on May 7 along with my DD, Me, and DH. Its great that we can all do it together.

Meggers, Elladee, and Kate Thanks for the info. I am going to try to start giving him 5oz and maybe reduce it to 4oz for next week. He didn't spit up at all on Friday and Monday, but yesterday he did horrible. I feel pretty good now with your schedules. I am pretty much pumping at the same times.
Thank you:)

Alex watches baseball and headline news. We have a habbit of leaving the tv on during the night when we sleep. So Alex gets his share of headline news. We bought some Baby Einstine Movies, but he doesn't care for it. He would rather watch baseball. He is starting to look around when DD, DH, and I talk.

It's funny that you mention this because I've been having a lot of dreams of finding out that I"m pregnant. A lot of them are of me reading a pregnancy test and it being positive. The only reason I have to explain these dreams is because it will be a year ago on the 28th that I found out I was pg. I know I can't be pg now.

QOTD Jeremiah only eats two 5 oz bottles while I am at work. I nurse at 6 am and then at 4 pm when I see him again. I am able to pump just about 10 oz (2 or 3 pumping sessions) Sometimes we supplement a few oz of formula a day. I think part of the reason he eats so little during the day is because he stocks up when I get home (eats 4 times between 4 and 9 when he goes to bed)

QOTD 2 We're bad and let him stare at the TV occasionally. Gosh I hope it won't have any lasting bad effects!

All the photos are ADORABLE! What cute babies we have in our group :D

2 weeks ago we discovered that Noble has two upper teeth trying to come in. Anyone else?

We are in 6 mos. clothes now. Some 6 mos. stuff doesn't fit if they have the little feet attached because his feet are huge!

He discovered his hands a few weeks ago and is starting to grasp at items. He loves to turn towards the TV if we have it on and turns his head towards our voices.

He rolls to the side but not all the way over yet.

We put him on a scale 2 weeks ago and he was 18 pounds. We took the plunge and bought the Britax Decathalon (it goes up to 65 pounds) because our graco snugride maxes out at 22 pounds.

We recently drove up to see our family for Easter and he did great during the car ride. On the way back he slept the entire 7 hour drive! He also did really well during our visit. We stayed a whopping 10 days!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group. My DS Sean was born on 02/10/06 (a month early).

CC Name: ajb524
DD/DS: Sean Jason
Me: Andrea, 25
DH: Jason, 28
Married: 05/24/03
EDD: 03/09/06
ADD: 02/10/06
Time of Birth: 2:27AM
Weight: 5lbs. 6oz
Length: 18 3/4 inches
Other Children: none

Sean was due on 03/09/06 and ended up coming a month early. I had an easy pregnancy with no complications so his early arrival caught us totally off guard. I went into labor at 11:45pm on 02/09/06 and he was born at 2:27am on 02/10/06. I was only at the hospital an hour and a half before he was born. I also missed my window for the epidural. NCB was as bad as I had thought it was going to be though.

Sean spent his first 2 weeks in the NICU. He had issues breathing when he was born, the had jaundice and then had feeding issues. He is still a little behind in weight and height, but right on track for what he would be had he been born on time. When he went to the doctor 2 weeks ago he weighed 9lbs. 15oz and was 21 inches long.

I started back to work this week and things have been somewhat difficult. Mainly it's just the lack of sleep ;).

I started out bf'ing Sean and he was exclusively BF for the first month. I've mostly been pumping and giving him a bottle since he does better with that. Since I started on the mini-pill at 6 weeks my supply keep dwindling down. I'm only getting maybe 5 ounces a day and I'm pumping 5 times. I started taking fenugreek Saturday and can't tell much difference. I'm about ready to ditch the mini-pill to see if that works. If it doesn't then I think my days of breastfeeding will be over. It makes me sad, but I am glad that he did have this long with BM.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my little guy

Ashley is getting over hers, she was congested and I had to do the saline and suction. Throughout the day it's okay just in the morning when she wakes up she's stuffy. I have to almost strap her down to suction but she gives me that Big ole kool Aid smile afterwards.

Hi Andrea, welcome! Sean is a total cutie--I love that bath picture!

Well, we had our first experience with projectile spit-up this morning. Annika had finished her morning bottle, I had laid her down in the middle of our bed for a minute while I picked things up, and suddenly I turned my head to see that she had totally gone for distance--a stream of spit-up all the way across the bedspread! The burp cloth I had put under head to catch "dribbles" was soaked. She was covered in it, too, so we had to clean up both spread and baby...we don't usually do morning baths, but definitely needed to make an exception this time.

I checked with the ped and the nurse said not to worry too much, just to give her a smaller bottle for the next feeding and see how she did--which was fine. (She was grinning at me right after she finished howling over having spit-up all over her face, so I figured she was probably okay. ;) )

Here's Miss Annika on her way to Greek Easter at our friend Billy's house:

QOTD????
For those who babies were born in December have you received the birth certificate yet? Ashley was born 12/29 and I can't remember if the hospital said it was going to take 3-4 months to receive the certificate. I received her SS card in 3 weeks but have not received the certificate.

I still have to catch up here... but quick post:

Nate's in the 90th percentile for everything as of today. I don't remember all of the numbers, but his weight is 13lbs 10oz. :) The nurse did write them down for me though, so I'm not that bad of a mother that I don't have them for his book.

QOTD on Birth Certificates - In our county in IL we have to wait 6 months to get a complete BC. I forgot if it was 6 months or 6 weeks, so I sent for it after 6 weeks. We got it in the mail saying that it didn't have the needed numbers on it and to send it back a/ 6 months for them to replace it free. For Aaron I forgot to do it and didn't send for it until he turned 1!

Instead of coos and aaah-goos, Audrey has started shrieking. She just loves to shriek all day in mommy's ear. It's great. That's the biggest change. She's still practicing rolling onto her stomach, and has managed to roll back onto her back a few times. I swear she is going to be such a happier baby when she's mobile. She hates that she can't move anywhere.

------------------------

Welcome, ajb524! What a cute boy you have! Don't worry if your info doesn't show up on the first page for a while. We are sooooooo behind in updating! :o

jasonsgal - How can you tell he has teeth trying to come in? Audrey drools like crazy and is constantly chewing on her hands, which are signs of teething, but I can't tell for the life of me if she has any teeth coming in!

ginadc, michiganbride - Love the pics!! Your babies are so cute!

birth cert - I'm going to answer anyway even though Audrey was born in January. We haven't received hers yet either. I don't remember how long they said it would be!

Jules - Noble just started to shriek for the first time today. He shrieked before but not OVER and OVER and OVER.. He just did it! How funny that I come back and see your post.

I know his teeth are coming in because I can see the two little white teeth poking thru! I was walking with my neighbor yesterday.. she is a dentist and she was really surprised. She confirmed that it's his fang teeth coming in! My little vampire :o
I have no idea how long they had been there but I wanted to check because he was showing signs as well (chewing on hands, slobbering, etc.)

Birth certificate: We received a temporary one at the hospital and I can't remember how long it takes for the permanent one to come in. His Social Security card already came in the mail.

Welcome, ajb524!!!

we're in new york city, like kate, ane we also had the twins' birth certificates by about 6 weeks.

for those of you with that sure comfort green and blue infant/toddler tub: we just switched from using the sling in it to just sitting the babies up...any idea how much water to put in the tub?

here are m & j from a few days ago. sitting on a pile of laundry.

angelgirl8 - Is this the tub you're talking about?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/juliebeth13/d461012e.jpg

We fill it up so the water level is a little bit below that first groove right next to her head in the pic. Make sense? So when she's in the bath, the water is exactly level with that groove and goes up to her stomach.

terry's wifey: for the birth cert, i think it depends on the state you live in. in virginia, we had to send in the form the hospital gave us at 4 weeks (for us it was feb), and we received the certificate about a month later.

shreiking for joy: ryan hasn't learned to do that yet, he's still learning how to laugh... but he sure does scream when he's mad now.

all the dec/jan/feb babies are so cute~ i can't believe how fast they are growing!

Birth Cert. - We filled out a form right in the hospital and had it within a couple weeks. I was actually really shocked at how fast it arrived.

Baths - We have a different tub, but same idea... we fill it as full as it'll go so when she's reclined a little bit of her tummy stickes out and it goes up to like her ears (since she's reclined her whole face sticks out). She seems to love being in the water. In fact last weekend, I took her in the big girl bathtub with me. That was a blast.

Esther is finally starting to try to roll over (back to front)! She can get her hips turned and sometimes even makes it up onto her shoulder, but doesn't go all the way over yet.

ajb524, welcome!!!!

Cute babies everyone!

Birth Cert I have been really lazy with ordering mine. I still haven't done it. It takes acording to the sheet here only 2-4 weeks to get them back. Or you can go to the county health office and get it right away.

Baths We have the green bath and Alex just started sitting up in it. We leave the sling in it and fill it up to the first dip so his belly is almost covered. He love the more water so he can splash in it.

abj Welcome, love the pics!

Rolling Over Alex is not interested. He is showing no signs.:( He hates to be on his belly, so we lay him on it to get him to try to roll over.

Happy Friday! :D

Welcome, ajb!

Well, the first cold turned into the first fever. I took him to the doctor and he has the beginnings of an ear infection, so he is on antibiotics. It hasn't been as bad as I would have expected the first illness to be. Wednesday he needed to be held all day, and Wednesday night when he developed the fever I was amazed at how my own sleepyness was gone in a second--I could have stayed up with him all night if he had needed that! I realize how lucky I am to be able to be home with him--but then again, after two days housebound, leaving him with my mom while I went to get his prescription felt like a vacation. I wanted to wander the aisles of the drugstore! Today he is back to his regular self, but we had to cancel our weekend trip. Since our weekends in May and June are going to be so busy, it is actually good to have one more quiet weekend.

He rolled over three times stomach-to-back about two weeks ago but hasn't done it since. When on his back he is starting to get his legs up more and get some movement going, but his legs are so bulky, we laugh that they seem too much work to lift!

Birth Cert I actuall just got the BC for all my children last week because I needed them to verify something for my insurance. We don't get our sent in the mail we have to go down to the clerks office to get it. I didn't realize that I didn't even have my DD's and she is 22 mos. Oh well, now I have them all.

We have the similar bath tub that most of you have posted. I noticed he's getting to big for the side where he reclines but he's not big enough to sit up on his own yet. I think I may look into those rings that you just suction to the bottom of the tub but then I have a hard time cleaning there rear since they are sitting on it.

Jaxson is getting really close to rolling over. We were playing with him last night and he twists the top half of his body onto his side but he doesn't kick is leg over. I also put him on his tummy and he loved it. He moves his legs back and forth like he's trying to crawl, too cute.

Welcome abj!

Love all the pics of the babies.

Well today it was a year ago that I found out I was pg. On my lunch break I drove to the drug store because that morning my temp shot way up and AF still hadn't arrived. I bought the test, ran next door to Burger King and took it right there in there bathroom! :D It was a good thing I was sitting down because it was a real shocker since we weren't trying and since I thought I had a low chance of getting pg that month. But we are thrilled today, DH and I were just talking about this last night. I can't imagine what it would be like not having him here.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hi Ladies-
I haven't posted much but I want to try to keep up. We had out 3 month WBV last week Tommy is up to 13lbs and 24 inches long. The Dr said we needed to do more tummy time because hadn't rolled over yet but when we got home and did TT he rolled over a few times. How many times a day do you usually do TT? And do they get frustrated after a few minutes and just give up or is it only my son?

Annika hates tummy time. Sometimes if she's in a really good mood, she'll tolerate it for a little while--as in, 2-3 minutes max--before she starts fussing. Otherwise she starts fussing immediately and gets pretty pissed pretty quickly, so we don't do it very much. I know I should, but I really find it hard to justify making her so upset. She doesn't get much out of it when she's just lying there yelling. She hasn't rolled over yet, but she seems like she's going to soon...we'll see what the ped says, but she doesn't have a WBV until 4 months (2 months, then 4 months on our sched).

TT Caedan hasn't liked it much lately. He hasn't rolled over either. He's 3 months as well. When I lay him on his tummy lately, he put his face flat into the blanket (on the floor LOL) and yells at the floor. It scares me. No matter how much I turn his head he puts his face right back. I can get him to do it for a few minutes before he is screaming his head off. LOL I have been hopeful that will change :) We shall see!

Hello everyone, I've been lurking in this thread but haven't got around to posting my stats. So I will get off my backside and do it :D

Please Ms Threadmistress, when you get a chance, here are my details.

CC Name: AusMarchBride
DD: Sarah
Me: Ann, 40
DH: Michael, 42
Married: 16 March 03
EDD: 17 Feb 06
ADD: 27 Jan 06
Time of Birth: 1.46pm
Weight: 5lbs 2oz (2.33 kg)
Length: 17.5ins (45cms)
Other Children: none

I was in the Feb mommies thread, but actually delivered my daughter by c-section 3 weeks early due to her small size. My OB decided it was better to get the baby out, and if there was a reason for her small size, then they could treat it. Fortunately nothing was wrong, and she was just in Special Care Nursery (not NICU, lower level care) for 2 days and then in with me for the other 3 nights.

She is doing beautifully, putting on weight and growing well. She's now (at 14 weeks) a whopping 9lbs10oz :D She has been sleeping through the night, (goes to bed around 8pm and sleeps till 7-8am without waking up) since she was about 9weeks old. I am one happy Mum!

I wanted though to chime in on the "tummy time" thing. My DD hates it with a passion. I will have her on her tummy for literally no more than 1 minute before she starts screaming. She just lies there with her face on the ground and cries. I thought if I left her there for a few minutes more she might get tired of the crying and try to lift her head to see what's going on. Nope, she just lies there, face down, crying. I get so upset because I know she needs the tummy time but she hates it so much.

She's also one of those babies who tends to be sick a bit after her feeds so I have limited time when I can try tummy time. I can't do it straight after a feed, and as she's still on 3hrly feeds during the day, and she usually starts getting a bit unsettled about half an hour before her next feed. And there's no point in putting her on her tummy when she's unsettled already, she'd scream the house down.

Tummy time lying on her father's or my chest doesn't work either. She isn't fooled by the change in location, she knows she's still on her tummy

So ginadc, I'm right there with you on the "I know I should, but I really find it hard to justify making her so upset. She doesn't get much out of it when she's just lying there yelling"

Having said that, her head control is fantastic when she's being carried over my shoulder.

And now I will end my essay

Twyla & AusMarchBride-So glad to here that my child isn't the only one, he also does the same thing with putting his face to the blanket he either starts to cry or he chews the blanket. He's getting better with it though. He will do TT on my husbands chest and loves that but anywhere else he has to be in the mood to do it.

ginadc-We only went for a WBV at 3 mo. because I went back to work went he was 8 weeks old and the Dr. wanted to check his progress as to how he was doing. From here on out we go back to the normal WBV schedule.

Hi everyone. We are having a rough go of things, so I am not around much. We were told she had reflux too. Her fussiness has not gotten better and just assumed it was colic and needed to ride itself out. Well things have gotten worse so we are working with the gastrointestinal doctor to rule some other things out due to some new symptoms.

Anyway, I wanted to add a baby pic too :)

Hi everyone. My gosh, it's been soooo long (too long) since i have posted. It's so hard to juggle working, being a mom, and posting on cc. I miss my cc friends so much also....

Raymond was 4 months old yesterday.
4 month check up:
14 lbs 15 oz
24 inches long

We also started feeding rice cereal to raymond yesterday. I know it's early, but he was sooo ready for it. He ate almost the entire tablespoon.

Re: TT - Raymond hates it also, But he enjoys TT on DH's chest.

Jack isn't a fan of TT either, but he's doing better. I think we're still a ways from rolling over because he just doesn't seem that interested. But he is holding himself up when he's on his tummy pretty well and now that he can look around more he doesn't get irritated so quickly.

Thankfully he's started to figure out that he can entertain himself for a little while. I can lay him on the floor for a few minutes so I can get dinner in the oven or at least go to the bathroom without him hollering, which is REALLY nice. I can't wait until he'll lay in the floor long enough for me to take a shower.....ahhh...that'll be wonderful....

All of your babies are so cute...it must be a winter baby thing! :D

Hint for TT: If you have an exercise ball, lay DS/DD on it and roll the ball back and forth. They naturally lift their heads against gravity, but it's not as "traumatic" as laying there with their face on the floor. :)

DS used to hate TT, but once we started doing this, his neck/upper body strength improved tremendously. Now he'll prop himself up and look around even on the floor. When he's on the exercise ball, it's so cute because he tightens his little rear end and arches his back. It's like he's saying, "I'm a big kid." You can also "bribe" them by doing TT in front of the TV. ;)

We're traveling this weekend for DH's niece's christening. I hope DS does as well on the plane this trip as he did when he was 10/11 weeks old. And it should be a million times easier since DH is going with me!

STTN: I ordered two books today "No Cry Sleep Solution" and "Healthy Sleep Habits." DS is wonderful, but getting up more than once a night is hard on mommy who has to work! I'm so jealous of all you ladies whose babies sleep through the night. The longest DS ever slept is 7 hours (11PM - 6AM) and that was a complete fluke. He usually only goes 4-5 hours.

Last night he slept from 8:30-1:00; down around 1:30; up again at 3:30; down around 4:00; up again at 6:50. Of course the loud-mouth cat woke me up at 5:25 (25 minutes before my alarm...ugggh!). I'm pretty sure DS needs to go to be earlier, but I don't get home from work until 6:30 at the earliest. I'm hoping I'll get some tips from these books.

Funny Story: DS is exclusively breastfed. He usually goes 4-5 days without a BM (which from everything I read is totally ok), but he's really gassy. My BIL (who has no kids of his own, mind you), is telling DH that DS is constipated and to "put some Karo syrup in the bottle." DH responds, "Oh really, should Kate be drinking Karo?" You've got to love family!

Jaxson actually likes TT, he holds his head up high and will play with the rattles in front of him. He will be 4 mos on Thurs and still hasn't rolled over. I think out of my 4 kids it's taking him the longest. I will see what his ped says on Wed when I take him to his 4 mos WBV.

Jaxson has his first ear infection. He wasn't himself all weekend and for the past week he's been getting up at 3:00 am and then off an on. He ususally sleeps until at least 5:00 and sometimes all night. He also has a cold so I brought him into acute care last night and his wheezing isn't in his lungs but he does have an ear infection in his left ear. So hopefully the antibiotics will get him feeling better soon. He did sleep better last night so that's a good sign.

I can't wait to start him on cereal this week. I'm waiting for the OK from the Dr on Wed. I know he is ready for it, at the Dr last night we weighed around 17 or 18 pounds.

i've got two babies here that hate tummy time, too! sometimes they'll tolerate it for a full minute before the screaming starts. oh well!

i'm so jealous of babies that are sleeping through the night. we're still only getting 3, sometimes 4 hour stretches from them (which translates to 2 or 3 hours for us)! and that's just the first stretch. after that, it's 2 hours and then 1 hour!

tray...i'm so sorry that dd is still not doing well. sounds awful, hang in there.

Katey&Joey and angelgirl I'm with you guys with the sleep thing. J. actually slept 7 hours straight last night but I think that was also a fluke. I'm exhausted! He's a small guy though so I think he's getting up because he is genuinely hungry

QOTD's Okay I need to go post on the worst mom award thread because I break all the rules in the book! Jeremiah loves tummy time but that's because we let him sleep on his tummy (all the time  ) We lay him down awake in his crib and when we peek in he has his head way up looking around and shrieking (laughing) I also have gave him a little cereal for the first time on Saturday even though the doctor said not until six months. I don't plan on doing it every day or even giving him anything else, but he really loved the cereal!

Because of the whole stiff neck/favoring turning to one side/potential for flat-head thing and the few physical therapy sessions we've therefore had to have, we've done a ton of tummy time and now DS tolerates it extremely well. As long as he's not tired, he can stay at it for a good amount of time. We had to start out very gradually though. The key for us is constantly entertaining him by one of us down there making sounds and faces and smiles or using a few toys (that make sounds!) and reserving them for tummy time use. The physical therapist also recommended the exercise ball idea as Kate mentioned, as well as giving him a Baby Einstein video to focus on. The toys or mommy or daddy lying on the floor with him works for us though. If we don't feel like lying on the floor with him, we have a big ottoman that he can lie on and we can sit on the ground at the perfect level to entertain him.

FWIW, The physical therapist also said the "correct" position is for the baby to rest on his forearms, which should be slightly out in front of him, with the hands brought together. The best way I can explain it is that his chest and arms create a rough triangle shape. If his arms end up at the sides of his shoulders, we have to reposition him. She said something like "you try lifting your head and shoulders with your arms pinned at your sides."

Welcome, Aus!

Wishing you the best, tray.

Sorry to hear of the ear infection, Nikki. For us, we caught it early and DS was back to normal the day after we started the antibiotics (but he's still congested in his nose).

I should add that while he doesn't like to start it when he's tired, tummy time makes DS tired, so we often do it before I'd like him to take a nap or before the bedtime routine.

KRL, as I've mentioned before, DH and I have had many discussions about the whole sleeping thing, ranging from frustration to laughing as we imagine our kids one day reading the latest parenting literature and saying to us, "You let us sleep on our backs!?!?!" We finally resigned ourselves to just do all we can to get him to sleep on his back and hope that one day (soon) he can roll over and get comfy. But, the point of my post is that in my very humble opinion, everyone has to choose what's best for their kids, and I, for one, do not think you belong in the worst mom thread. ;)

OK, I'm done posting, I swear!

Alex will be 3 months tomorrow. Here is the swimsuit we bought him that fits now but won't fit this summer.

Well this was my first weekend home after taking him to the babysitter. He wanted to nurse all the time. Then last night he woke up for a 3:00am feeding which means maybe no more sttn.:(

KRL Alex doesn't go to a ped. he goes to our family doctor. Makes really no difference, but he wanted us to introduce cereal at 4 months and veggies at 6 months. So I don't think that you wrong.

Taurus Thanks for the TT tips

Anybodys baby had thrush? The LC told me that Alex has it, but its weird that it doesn't bother me. Of course, now that they say something my nipples are a little sore. I was kinda hoping that the soreness is due to more frequent nursings. Any Idea?

TTMorgan seems to be tolerating tummy time more now that he can hold his head up for longer periods of time. I still probably should do it more a day.
He's been slightly under the weather the past couple days with a low grade fever and then last night when I was up at 1ish nursing him, my throat was really sore so I think we are fighting a virus in our house.
I took a sick day today from school and it was pretty nice cause my MIL was here taking care of him so I got to sleep all morning and then take a nice long bath. Plus I have been nursing him every 2 hours so I am sure my antibody count is way up.
Question for those who have started cerealWe are going to start it at 4 months (advice from ped cause of the reflux) and I think (unless he hits a major spurt) Morgan will be too small for a highchair still. What do you use to feed your baby? Has anyone invested in a Bumbo chair?

edsbabyrhi We just ordered a bumbo and are waiting for it to get here. I think it's going to work really well for feedings.

michiganbride I thought I had it, but my OB said no. I do know that you both need to be treated for it if he does have it because you can pass it back and forth.

Sorry that I haven't posted much. I went back to work last week, and I am TIRED. I've been enjoying everybody's posts and pictures. Just don't have time to write.

JR is doing great. He finally started putting his fist into his mouth for the first time today. So cute. He also puts a rattle (which I have to help him grap) in his mouth. He is growing fast too. I already had to pack two boxes of clothes that are too small for him.

There a couple of problems though. One is he is on bottle strike. I am EBFing, but we introduced a bottle with BM when he was 3 weeks old. He never really liked a bottle, but he would take it and eat 2-3 oz. Not any more. Right when I went back to work, he started refusing it with all his heart. He took only 1 oz during the time that I was at work (8 hours). Of course, he was hungry, so when I got home, he ate from my breast every hour. He also started waking up more often at night, which I think it's related .

Sleeping on the back/Tummy Time. We are bad on this avenue as well. We started putting him on his tummy from when he was about 7 weeks old. He refused sleeping on his back and after a week of sleepless nights, we gave in. Now he is going to daycare soon, and he has to sleep on his back in daycare (their policy due to SIDS). So we've been training him to sleep on his back, but he can only sleep 15 min on his back. The problem is he has to have a paci in sleep ( I know, another bad habit), and it keeps falling off if he is on his back. We need a paci that does not fall off from baby's mouth. Another sad thing is even though JR sleeps on his tummy, he still hates tummy time. He sleeps fine, but then when he wakes up, he lifts his head up and cries. Sigh.

Hmm.. it seems like I should get the worst mom award. Ok. gotta go. JR is crying. (I put him sleep on his back 10 min ago) Hope everybody has a great week.

Since our phys therapist wants DS to lie flat on his back as little as possible, but can't yet roll over, I asked about the Bumbo seat. She said she likes it but gave the obligatory explanation that parents shouldn't overuse it/use it in lieu of tummy time thinking it will strengthen the muscles. I think we all know that. But to answer the question, I bought one. The phys therapist said our DS probably isn't ready for it for a couple more weeks, but I got it now because our BRU always sells out of them and I had a $5 off coupon. I swear DS's thighs look too big for it though! :)

Oh, and our ped is another who has mentioned solids at 4 mos. Guess we'll discuss that at the next WBV. Haven't thought about it.

Wow I just realized that a year ago today I found out I was PG! Time sure flies!

I just realized that it was 4 years ago today I found out I was pg with DS#2.

Feeding Cereal as far as where to put your child I also have used the bouncy seat and the car seat. With the car seat I reclined the handle bar all the back to the bottom so it props the seat up a little bit. I have a high chair that reclines now so I will use that and recline him a little bit so he's not sitting straight up. If I remember right my Ped likes me to try to start cereal by putting it in his bottle and making it a little thicker instead of spoon feeding him. Then I have to make the hole in the nipple bigger otherwise it's too thick to come out. We go back to the Dr tomorrow so we will see what he says.

Taurus thanks, he is doing much better already and has only been on the antibiotic for a day. I think we may have caught it early too because he's back to his happy self already. DS is still congested in the nose too but he's been like this off and on since he was 6 weeks old.

Wow I just realized that a year ago today I found out I was PG! Time sure flies!

And yesterday was our baby-making anniversary. :D Crazy to think it's been a year already. I was saying in my journal yesterday that it's amazing that one year ago we had no idea that our life would be so different in such a short amount of time (since we weren't exactly TTC). But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Esther's another one who hate TT. Though the other day she got her fist in her mouth and was happy as could be to just lay there and chew on it for a while. There was a period where she liked her tummy and we were letting her sleep that way since it went so much better, but then she decided to change her mind I guess.

We're going to hold off on solids until at least 6 months (and then go straight to sweet potatos I think). But our high chair does recline, too. Esther hangs out there all the time while I cook/wash dishes. edsbabyrhi, if you don't have a high chair yet you could think about a reclining one.

Alex hates TT but yesterday I bought a baby boppy for him and that seemed to help a bit.

As far as high chairs go... we bought the kind that straps to a chair and it reclines. Alex sits in it when we eat meals in our nook.

NikkidWe are using thicker feeds of formula to help the reflux (rice cereal in formula like you said) and avent makes "variable flow" nipples which work really well. They have 3 flow speeds and the hole is large enough to let the thicker formula through. HTH!

What size diaper is your baby wearing? Owyn is just over 3 months old and was wearing size 2 diapers. Almost everyday for a week now he has had one poop that leaks out of the back of the diaper. I read a thread in Parenting that that means he needs the next size up. So this evening we opened our size 3 diapers which seem huge compared to the size 2 diapers. Has anyone else noticed this?

diapers: with size 2's, we have blowouts up the back. with size 3's, sometimes they leak out between his legs if i don't put it on tight enough...

solids: still exclusively breastfeeding (with some bottles of expressed milk) and gaining weight fine, so we're probably going to wait on the solids till 5 or 6 months.

Is anyone else losing their hair lately? I'm not sure if it's hormonal or what, but my hair seems to be falling out by the handful! I can clog the drain with every shower, my shirts are constantly covered in loose hair that's fallen out, and my brush looks like there's a small animal hiding in it.

I know this is off topic, but with all of the pictures I'm sure we've all taken of our babies this might help a little.

I found a code for winkflash.com to get 50 free 4x6" prints and only 99 cent shipping (for new customers only, I think). The code expires today (May 3, 2006), so if you have some photos you need printed, this is a way to do it with very little cost.

YES!!! It is making me nuts. I forgot about this wonderful post partum fun from my last pregnancy. I can't stand all this loose hair everywhere. I hate when it gets on my girls when I am putting lotion on them after a bath. Yucky!:p

My hair has been thinning for a long time now, even before I had kids, thanks to genetics! So I don't know if it's due to PP or if it's just genetics. :(

Love the pics jjohm! Ryan is so dang cute.

Jaxson has been in size 3 diapers for a long time now. I would guess over a month. We have never had a blow out but they just seemed tight around is legs and low on his body.

AQOTD:Flat head Does anyone else's baby have a flat head? I always try so hard to keep this from happening with all my children but now with Jaxson being #4 it's hard for me to hold him all the time. He spent a lot of time in his bouncy seat earlier on and even slept in it for a long time because he was always congested. He also favors one side so now he has a flat spot on one side. We see the ped today so I'm going to see if he's concerned about it. I've noticed that it has gotten better, I'm not sure how. DS #2 has a flat head in back because we didn't do anything about it. Noone seems to notice it until I mention it but I notice it all the time. I don't want Jaxson to have that too.

Wow, I finally got all caught up!

Diapers: yes, I've noticed a huge difference in the 3s. We only made it thru one package of 2s before I thought they were getting snug (no blowouts, thank goodness). The weird thing is he still fits into some 1s that I have at work (they're the toy's r us brand, whatever that is, supreme version - shower gift). So I held up the 1 next to the 2 and the difference was minimal, but when I held the 2 next to the 3, the difference was huge! Weird. Who sizes those things anyway?

Hair: I've also noticed that my hair is starting to fall out. This could also be because I haven't had time for a haircut and my hair is rebelling! I swear I hate seeing the hair come out, but it's almost a blessing because it's getting too long and thick.

Matthew: He's turning into a little chunk. BF did NOT go the way I wanted it to. I never got my milk to come in completely, I think that must have been from the retained placenta (found at 5 WEEKS post-partum  ). I BF plus supplemented til he was 3.5 mths, and we're almost completely weaned onto formula now. He's 16 weeks now and is still not STTN or rolling over. He also has a bad case of excema. We have to give him benadryl and zyrtec now :( He also has to be slathered with lotion several times a day, and even though I use Eucerin, I can tell it hurts the poor boy.

Glad to see and hear about all the babies! I just hope I can keep up!! :)

Diapers JR is in size 2. I hope he stays in size 2 for a while since I just bought another pack. We've been using cloth diapers during the day time, but use disposables at night. We will probably move to all disposable once JR starts going to daycare. I am trying different brands for disposable. I like how pampers feel, but don't like strong smell. Huggies seems okay. We will try Costco brand soon too. What's your favorite diaper brand?

Hair: I also noticed about a week ago that my hair is getting to fall out. I have lots of hair, so I am not worrying too much. I just hate it makes every place eso messy.

Flat head: I am also concerned about this. JR only likes to turn his head to his right and rarely turns his head to the left. I am worrying that it will make his right side flat. I've been trying to make him turn his head to the left by only laying down on his left side, putting toys on his left side, etc. So far, not much success. we will see.

Cute piccies everyone!!!

Hair Yep - it's started. It was so weird not to lose ANY hair during PG. And, I have a ton to begin with, so I'm used to it falling out in the shower and such. But, after those months of none of it falling out - it seems so strange. My hairdresser will love it though. Getting highlights a month ago, she kept saying, "Dang! You have A LOT of hair - more than usual!" Not for long!

Dipes My petite lady is just about to grow out of 1s now. I'm finishing off her last pack. I also have a pack of 1/2s, which fit her great, but I'm not going all to way to BRU to get more, so I'll probably move to 2s once the 1/2s are gone.

Solids Holding off until 6 mo. Micki is mostly breastfed, although she does get a formula bottle a few times/week.

Flat head Not here - she doesn't sleep on her own long enough to get one. ;) Plus, she sleeps on her side and we switch sides every night. The only time she's really on her back is for her morning nap in her swing.

Question about carseats Does anyone else's baby HATE their infant seat? Micki cannot stand her SnugRide. She will tolerate about 10-15 minutes in it, but then, forget it. We went to Target and Costco yesterday and between stores, I had to BF her to calm her down from the ride from Target to Costco. She fell asleep in her Bjorn (can't take her shopping in her seat; she hates it that much.) inside Costco and I tried to transfer her to her seat for the ride home. She was screaming within seconds and wailed the entire way home. Poor baby. I just ordered a Britax Marathon, hoping that she'll do better in a convertible seat.

Are you serious!!!!!!! Those pics are PERFECT!!! Oh! my goodness what a great job. Who needs to spend $$$$ on studio pics when you can do it yourself and look just as good if not better. Your baby is beautiful and mommy is still glowing:)

Pampers..... Ashley is till in size 2 she does have accidents where the poop leaks out on the sides but when we tried the size 3 it seem so big. Maybe in a few more weeks we will make a switch.

Hair.... My hair is shedding like CRAZY!!! I am still taking my pre natal vitamins but I'm still shedding. I washed my hair Sunday and I was freaking out to see sooooo much hair coming out. Funny thing at Ashley's baptism she is always pulling my hair so when I handed her over to the pastor there was alot of my hair on the front of her dress and I was trying to pull it off before he started walking her around the church to show her to the congregation. Talk about embarrassed :o

So Ashley had her 4 month appointment Monday she is now 14lbs 13oz and
26in long. I started giving Ashley cereal in her bottle a month ago once a day, so during the visit the doctor said that now they don't recommend feeding solids until 6 months b/c it can cause Eczema, diabetes and early chhildhood obesity.

Now I've heard of the diabetes and obesity but not Eczema. Since it runs in my family I just stopped giving it to her and will wait. I don't want to take that chance. Anyone else heard of the Eczema connection?

ryan has eczema too! jen, did u find out if there was a cause? i've eliminated dairy from my diet, stopped using dryer sheets, use only aquaphor, and still the poor baby has really really dry skin. i'm convinced he's learned how to scratch (even though he doesn't know how to reach yet) because he'll draw his legs up and grab his knees, especially during diaper changes.

carseats: ryan cried every time i put him in his carseat for a week UNTIL i took out the headrest thing that was there and moved the belts up a notch.

flathead: no problems here so far, he still sleeps on the positioner at night on his back, but sometimes on one side or the other. the positioner is really too small for him but i like that it cushions his head since the co-sleeper has a hard mattress.

losing hair: yep, its starting for me, and not a good thing because i have so little hair to begin with. i got a perm so my hair will look fuller even if i don't have time to blow dry.

losing hair - just this past week mine started falling out at an alarming rate. :( I was always a big shedder before I got pg, so I guess it's back to normal for me.

car seat - we've got to keep an eye on the straps, too, because the moment they get slightly too tight, Esther hates it. Speaking of that, we've only got 2 more notches where we can let the straps out and she's just about ready to go to the second to last one! We might be in a convertible car seat before we know it.

jjohm - those are great pictures! What do you use for a backdrop?

elladee: the backdrop was 2 yards of some kind of black non-shiny vinyl they sold at the fabric store (you know, the kind they make cheap tablecloths out of?) it works fine as long as the flash bounces off the ceiling or side wall. or, if you can't manipulate the flash, try using natural light and the no flash option.

Hi Ladies! Thanks for all the welcome's.

Hair-I just started noticing it this week. I usually have a big clump at the end of the shower.

Diapers-He has just moved up to size 1. But he was a preemie so we've had to use newborn diapers for a while. I'm hoping he'll stay in the size 1's for a while since I have tons of them from my shower. I like swaddlers best, but we have tons of huggies so that's what we are using. I tried luvs since I got some of those at my shower too, but didn't like them as well.

carseat-I had to loosen the straps this weekend because he is getty so big ;).

Hair - I have noticed this as well and it stinks since my hair is so fine to begin with.

Flat head - As I've posted, at about two months our ped sent us to a physical therapist because she was concerned about torticollis, or DS' stiff neck. He strongly favored one side. She made the referral as a preventative measure so that he would not develop a flat head, and she scared us by saying that when it's not caught, kids end up in helmets. It seemed a bit extreme, but we went. When we went to the PT, she immediately pointed out that DS was starting to get a flat head. I could barely see what she was talking about. Our son did not have the classic torticollis with the head severely cocked to one side, but he did have a stiffening that she noticed when she did stretches on him, and it had him favoring one side and, therefore, re
