Alright all you creative ladies - I need some help. I've been wanting to have a fun, casual dinner party lately and DH suggested having a few friends over on Aprils Fools Day. I looked around on the internet and found some ideas. I'm thinking of making these for an appetizer:

Rice Krispie treat 'sushi' rolls.

These for dinner:

They are meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato 'frosting'.

And then these 'pot pies' for dessert:

They are filled with a pudding mixture and bits of different candies to look like the veggies.

I know this whole thing is hokey but for some reason I'm really excited about making this stuff! :p I would love any other ideas and suggestions for food and drink that follow along the same theme.
Maybe a side dish I could serve with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes or an idea for something to serve as a drink. Any ideas you have are welcome!
Thanks!

I don't know if you enjoy toilet humor, but google "kitty litter cake" and you will find a recipe and probably a picture. It looks absolutely gross, but I swear it tastes so good. I had it at a Halloween party, but it would probably fit your theme, too.

Here's a cocktail called an "April Fool" (http://www.nextdrink.com/april_d.asp?id=363).

Here's a dessert pizza recipe from Martha Stewart http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe2920008&catid=cat21433&navLevel=3

Here's a meatloaf "cake"

You can also do mashed potato "sundaes" by serving scoops of mashed potatoes in sundae glasses with gravy as caramel topping.

Maybe a Dirt Cake would work for dessert? Probably similar to the kitty litter cake...

Thank you so much ladies!

Greenbunny - I think the kitty litter cake is hysterical. A friend had one at his Haloween party this year and it was very realistic looking!

Missy2U - That drink sounds yummy!

Katmg - I think I may change my meatloaf cupcakes to the meatloaf cake. It would probably be a little bit easier than 'frosting' all those cupcakes and it's too funny!

msnicolea - The more I plan for this party the more fun I think it will be!

Any more ideas out there?

If you're planning on doing cocktails, you could always add food coloring to confuse people about the actual flavor. That way you don't have to come up with a special recipe, just have the coloring on hand.

I think it's a great idea! That would be a really fun dinner party. Here's a recipe for Spaghetti and Malt Balls
http://familyfun.go.com/Resources/craftimages/spagetti.jpg
MATERIALS:
Store-bought cupcake or poundcake
Store-bought buttercream frosting
Strawberry ice cream sauce
Butter knife
Chocolate malt balls
Blanched walnuts or almonds
Coconut
Shallow baking pan
Blender
Green sprinkles
White chocolate
Double broiler or microwave
Spoon
Lady fingers

Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Place a half of cupcake (top or bottom) or a half a slice of pound cake in the center of a plate.

2. Spoon the buttercream frosting into a decorating tube fitted with a large, circular tip and pipe it in a looping fashion around the sides of the biscuit or cake - do not frost the top.

3. Spoon strawberry ice cream sauce on top of the muffin or cake to cover. Drizzle a little over portions of the spaghetti as well.

4. For the meatballs, use a butter knife to rough up the surface of two or three chocolate covered malt balls. Place them on top of the "sauce."

5. For the parmesean cheese, crush a handful of blanched almonds or walnuts in a blender and then sprinkle the pieces over the sauce and "meatballs."

6. For the garlic bread, toast some coconut (for garlic) in a shallow baking pan at 350°, stirring often, for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. For butter, melt 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips in a double broiler or heat them in a microwave for about 1and 1/2 minutes at half power and stir until smooth. Spread the melted white chocolate on the toasted lady fingers. Top with the toasted coconut and green sprinkles for parsley.

Cute idea!

Someone at my school was giving out cupcakes that looked like ice cream cones. The cupcakes were (I think) baked into plain cones and frosted to look like ice cream. I don't know who gave them out, so I can't give more details, but IO'm sure there's a recipe online somewhere.
