View Full Version : Vancouver, BC recs?
DH and I are planning on spending a few days in Vancouver. Is it a city that we should get a rental car for, or can we get around fine with public transportation and cabs? How many days should we plan on spending to really get a good visit of the city? (We'll also be including Victoria and the San Juan Islands on this trip.) Any recs for a place to stay? Specific things to do and see? Thanks!

I was in Vancouver a few weeks ago and the public transport was good although I used taxis or walked (I was alternately in a rush or liberated  ). Buses ran frequently (every 10 mins or so) on the main streets and the fare looked to be $2.25 Canadian. The Sheraton Wall Center is centrally located, but I'm sure cheaper accomodation can be found. It is a walking city so travelling 7 blocks on foot is nothing...especially when one can amuse oneself by looking in the windows of Louis Vuitton and Coach. Also, the curry is excellent! I was there on business so perhaps someone else can answer the Q about length of time.

Oooh I love Vancouver!
I love the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (http://www.fairmont.com/hotelvancouver/) on Georgia Street.
I walk everywhere or take cabs...I did rent a car once but didn't need it.
A few places I enjoyed:
Gastown
Canada Place
Stanley Park
Granville Island (to include Prospect Point)
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens in Chinatown
Have fun! :)

Sare79, I posted the info you gave me in the other Vancouver thread. (I think it's right below this one in the list.)

We went to Vancouver last Fall and loved it. I was ready to move! We stayed at the Hmapton Inn and Suites downtown and I highly recommend it. Great room with a beautiful downtown view, fabulous staff, free bottled water, close to everything (it's on Robson), and free breakfast. It was very easy to get around with public transport. No need for a car. Be sure to go to Granville Island. Great shops and the food in the market is fab. Also if you like Indian food, you absolutely must go to Vij's Divine.
