OK so one of my two darlings got upset over something and did a rare pee on our bed yesterday.
I'm not sure which one did it or what he was upset about--but the case remains that I have a stained mattress. It stinks and I'm not sure how to clean it. Any advice?
yikes! Griffin peed on my bed when I returned home from my first vacation away. But it was on the blankets, not the mattress. Have you tried Oxy? Not so sure how to get it to the matress, but I know it works wonders on the rug when "accidents" happen.

We've encountered this problem too many times (we have a little nervous-nelly of a dachshund) - our solution was to buy a new bed and not let the dogs on it :(
But before going to the new bed extreme - I would blot up as much pee as I could then I would soak the mattress with a foam upholstery cleaner, continue to blot it up, then spray the mattress with a water and bleach solution and then soak that up. My main concern was the smell taking over my mattress which is why I used so many products. Take a hairdryer to it and dry it completely... then I would flip the mattress.
One proactive solution I found (other than not letting the dogs on the bed) was to buy a really absorbent mattress pad - I'm not sure of the brand I bought but I know I got it at Macy's and it's VERY thick with a quilted type box stitch. It was a little pricey for a mattress pad ($75 - $100) but well worth it!
I feel for you :(

WAIT! STOP! Don't use any cleaning products just yet! The first thing you need to do is blot up all the excess in a clean towel, and then saturate the spot with an enzymatic solution that is made for the sole purpose of neutralizing the urine. If you attempt to clean it with any other chemicals first, then the neutralizer won't work, and you'll end up smelling it at some point down the road.
This stuff works the best IMHO, you can get it at any of the pet stores:

:( Help, but the pee has already soaked into the mattress deeply! I can't blot any of it up. I used some cleaner on it already too.
Jaycee--thank you for the suggestion!--but I cannot use Nature's Miracle. I think it smells worse than pee. Is there any other enyzmatic cleaner out there that works? Spot Shot?

I know that you hate the smell of Nature's Miracle, but it will get the entire stain and the pee smell out for good. Even if it's been sitting for a while.
