Holy cow, it's on 3 days a week!
When I first heard about this show, I groaned big-time. Back in the day, I was a big INXS fan and seeing the remaining members do a reality show seemed like such a sell-out. But curiosity is getting the best of me. Plus Dave Navarro is in it, too. So, I'll be tuning in on Monday to check it out.
Description from the MSN website:
This summer, Mark Burnett and CBS present the most ambitious show in the history of unscripted television, "Rock Star:INXS."
Created by the executive producer of "Survivor" and creator of "The Apprentice," Mark Burnett, "Rock Star:INXS" brings 15 of the best undiscovered talents from around the world to Los Angeles for the opportunity of a lifetime: to become the new lead singer of INXS, one of the world's most successful rock bands.
The Australian-based INXS has played over 4,000 live shows, sold over 30 million albums, and had No. 1 hit singles on four different continents before the tragic death of lead singer Michael Hutchence. Now, one talented new artist will become INXS' frontman or woman, record an album with the band and lead its next worldwide tour.
But the unbelievable prize at stake isn't the only thing that makes "Rock Star:INXS" unmissable event TV. As the centerpiece of the competition, the contestants will perform the best rock music in history (including songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, ,The Police, R.E.M., The Doors and more), much of which has never been made available to a television show until now. Because all 15 contestants will also be living together in a Hollywood mansion steeped in rock-and-roll history, the human drama infused into the mix may be just as intense as the performances, especially as one competitor is eliminated each week.
These aspiring rock stars will be guided and mentored by legendary rocker Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers), and the performance segments of the show will be hosted by Brooke Burke ("Wild On").
"Rock Star:INXS" is such a huge undertaking, it demands a huge presence on air. That's why, beginning on Monday, July 11, 2005, "Rock Star:INXS" is airing an unprecedented three consecutive nights per week.
Every Monday, from 9:30-10 p.m. (ET/PT), we'll see the unscripted drama that comes from the competitors' lives together, and then join them as they undergo a series of rock-and-roll clinics that teach every aspect needed to become an international rock superstar. Featuring top professionals from the music world, as well as many of the greatest rock icons of all time, these clinics will test the competitors' versatility, musicianship, poise and strength of character. Here, they'll learn that being a rock star is much more than just having a great voice. Then, at the end of each clinic, the competitors will choose songs and rehearse for their live performances the next night.
Every Tuesday, from 10-11 p.m. (ET/PT), "Rock Star:INXS" becomes an all-out music competition shot on a brand-new stage at CBS studios in Los Angeles. This plush, ultra-cool rock-and-roll club is the ideal environment in which to play and experience the best rock-and-roll songs ever written. With Brooke Burke leading the proceedings and an all-star house band of the music industry's top musicians backing them, each contestant will have a chance to perform a song from the classic and current rock canon before INXS, Dave Navarro, a live audience and the millions of people watching around the world.
Here's where your job begins. After the concert on Tuesday night, audiences from around the globe will be asked to vote on that night's performances, either at rockstar.msn.com or via Verizon text messaging.
The results will be tabulated overnight. Then, every Wednesday, from 9:30-10 p.m. (ET/PT), the week's round of competition comes to its intense conclusion. Each contestant deemed eligible to leave that week will have to battle for survival by performing an INXS song in front of a live audience and the band itself. Ultimately, INXS will choose who to eliminate each week.
Over the course of the summer, this process will highlight a new crop of talented rock and rollers, give INXS a brand-new lead singer, and turn this one talented musician into a bona fide Rock Star.
"Rock Star:INXS" is produced by Mark Burnett Productions in conjunction with INXS. Executive producers of the show are Mark Burnett, David Goffin, Lisa Hennessy and David Edwards and Michael Murchison from INXS. The live show executive producer is Al Berman. The co-executive producer is Conrad Riggs.

I think this show sounds very interesting. I really want to watch, but will have to talk DH into either watching it with me or recording it for me. He said he thinks it looks pretty dumb. :(

Who watched last night?? DH and I watched it and I found it very interesting! I like how involved INXS really is in the show. I thought maybe it would feature Dave Navarro or Brooke, but INXS is really evaluating and commenting and actually 'firing' the people! Neat-o!
I didn't like the very first girl (with the Rasta look.) Everyone was raving about her and I was like ???
I really liked the guy who was like a Mick Jagger look-alike. (Can't remember his name, but one of the INXS guys said that he has total stage presence and that's something that you can't buy.)
I think that person that left totally deserved to go! All of that screetching!!! :p

I watched it and I'm hooked - it's a hella more entertaining than American Idol.
As a longtime fan (4 concerts and owner of every record) I still have mixed feelings. The version of "New Sensation" they opened the show with was TERRIBLE. The vocals were so generic and flat, DH and I looked at each other and cringed. When they get around to singing actual INXS songs, it might be really hard to listen to.
I was also afraid it would be degrading to the band, but they're coming off as very professional (although I still think Michael Hutchence is rolling in his grave). Tim did a good job of "firing."
We are rooting for a girl - someone different that can't be compared to Michael Hutchence. It has to be different because anyone up there who resemebles Michael at all will just be a reminder of how good he was. Like one of the guys said when Mig covered "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - "he reminds me of how good a singer Kurt Cobain was." That's not good and the band can't want that.
My favorites so far:
Heather:
http://entimg.msn.com/i/Rockstar/contestants/149x240/heather_wk00_149x240.jpg
Ty (ok, he's obviously not a girl, but he rocked and has his own unique style):
http://entimg.msn.com/i/Rockstar/contestants/149x240/ty_wk00_149x240.jpg
I want to hear more from Jordis. I think she's too young, but I liked her voice and presence:

Pickle - no way! Who?!?
I caught the second half last night. I thought it was pretty good. I too was a fan of INXS back in the day - I saw their concert in like '91 or '92 - the Soupdragons opened.
I think it will be interesting to see how it all works out...

ITA with nylons73....what was that girl thinking with that minute-long screech/wail/groan of pain thing??? As soon as I heard her do that, I thought she would be the one to go. I like the show. It's different and I am really impressed with how actively INXS is participating. I figured we would see them once in awhile till the show's finale. Hope they keep it up!

I wasn't to interseted in watching the show but with lack of anything else on on a Monday night so i turned it on and let me just say i'm hooked! I put it in my TiVo so i'll be sure not to miss anything. I was really suprised that the show was actually better than i was expecting it to me. There are a few of them that I think sound really good. I'm not of there names yet but the one listed above that I really liked was ty. Hopefully to night i'll get more familuar w/ their names.

Me too. I liked her voice up until that part. It REALLY did not work. But I still wish they had kept her around a little longer.
Marty should have gone home first. He was scary!

I am loving this show! It is so nice to hear people who can actually sing on a talent show (I hate American Idol). The members of INXS seemed genuinely interested in picking a good singer --naturally-- and so kind about the whole cutting process.
I am with Secret_Squirrel, Heather and Ty really stood out for me on the first night too.

I agree, Will needs to go home. His style doesn't mesh with the band and he doesn't even look like his heart is into it.
There were two big surprises for me last night:
1) JD - whoa, did he do a turn-around.
http://entimg.msn.com/i/Rockstar/contestants/149x240/jd_wk00_149x240.jpg
Monday night he was convulsing and pulling a woman's hair, but last night I was very impressed with how he arranged "California Dreamin'. " It showed he can take something everyone has heard before and make it new - something the band will need.
2) Deanna - how did I miss her voice the first time?
http://entimg.msn.com/i/Rockstar/contestants/149x240/deanna_wk00_149x240.jpg
I still think Jordis has an amazing voice, as well as having a really cute, funky look. She doesn't seem to have the stage presence that others have - I wonder if that will come out over time.
Ty was great, too.
Tara, Marty & Will are on my short list to leave.
And I'm still griping about the opener: would it have killed them to have used the original song, with Michael Hutchence's voice in "New Sensation"? It would have been a nice tribute to him.

I don't know... it just bothers me that the band would do some reality TV thing to replace Michael Hutchence, who is clearly irreplacable. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth somehow. Am I the only one?
ETA: I didn't actually watch the show. This is just my gut reaction to the idea of the show.
Well, so far Jordis and Ty are my favorites. Although I hear you, Secret_Squirrel on Jordis' stage presence (or lack thereof). I was just amazed at her rendition of "Heart Shaped Box."
I loved the Soupdragons! I think me and one of the girls I was with at the concert were the only people there who knew who they were!

I thought it was a pretty strange concept for a show but I'm completely sucked in now.
All in all, I like the way they're doing the show and the emphasis is not on 'replacing' Michael Hutchence, but on finding a lead singer. I also like that for the most part the show focuses on the music and not the backstage drama.
My favorites so far are Ty and Jordis.
I'm watching the show for the first time tonight. But I've been wondering since this show was announced: when did INXS become a rock band? I always thought of them as pop (alternative pop when they first came out). But a rock band? Nope.

a few comments on the show:
1. all of the contestants seem awfully young, dont'cha think? the members of INSX are quite a bit older, so it seems like an odd fit for whoever they pick. maybe they're trying to draw a younger crowd...
2. i hope we get to know the contestants a little better. based on the first episode, i thought it was going to be more like "the apprentice" format, with the solo interviews and behind-the-scenes drama. isn't this a mark burnett production? he lives for those story arcs! now it seems they're switching over to the "american idol" format, with only performances and voting. either way, i'm still hooked...
3. i really like jordis, too. great voice, great style, great smile, pretty girl. i think she's still very young so her stage presence and performance isn't up to some of the others. i think in a few years she will be amazing.
icedwhite - regarding your point #1 - I was thinking the same thing. Especially when I saw everyone partying, etc. in the first episode. For all I know, INXS does the same thing, but maybe not. I wonder how much lifestyles affect how well a band "gels."
I think that the Monday episodes are supposed to revolve around the contestants interactions, taped footage, etc., and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are performances and voting .
I found it really weird to watch the contestants do INXS songs last night - almost made me sad!

Rosebud, you aren't the only one. I felt the same way as you. Michael is irreplacable and I don't think it can ever be the same. I was mortified when I heard about the show.
But I tuned in out of curiosity and open-mindedness. Mark Burnett is Australian and has a great love for the band, so I thought he might do right by them. And even if it was a train-wreck, as a fan I couldn't look away until I knew for sure.
After watching, a part of me is excited to see and hear from Tim, Jon, Andrew, Kirk, and Gary again, after all these years. The show is well done and not exploitive. The band members have impressed me - they're professional and serious about the process. And I'm pleased to see their music getting dusted off the shelf, so to speak. Not to mention, the show is entertaining.
And as much as I adored Michael, I also appreciated talents of the rest of the band. As musicians, I believe they have the right to move forward - together, if they choose. Even so, I am still ambivalent about whether or not I can move with them.
I kind of hope they choose a female, simply to avoid any comparison to Michael.

I see your point. I got into the alt-pop side of them. But their sound was very diverse, with touches of rock and funk - but those songs did not get a lot of US airplay.
OTTOMH, "pop" tends to imply trendy, fickle music as opposed to a long-term band like INXS which has been together for 20 years. Compared to the "pop" stars of recent years, maybe that makes them "rockers."
I found it really weird to watch the contestants do INXS songs last night - almost made me sad!
I get a little sad during the show, too. It makes me miss Michael (I feel like such a cheesy fan girl admitting it, but it's true). And when they announced they were going to sing INXS, I told DH it was going to make me nauseous! Will and Tara were so awful. But Suzie actually did pretty well - she's come so far from the "Remedy" debacle.
I missed it last night! We had guests. Did anyone watch? How was it?

I watched last night's episode this morning on TIVO and it was pretty good! It focused on the 'behind the scenes' stuff more than any singing. Everbody got brand new guitars (can't remember the brand but everyone was very excited so they must have been expensive! heh heh.) Then, they showed the song selection process ( I couldn't figure out,do they draw straws for their selection # or something? How do they determine who gets what?) Then they focused on a few people in rehearsal. One girl (could be Deanna??) was really complaining about her song (she got an REM song) and she complained to the camera, the house band, everyone. Super annoying, I thought.
Secret_Squirrel
07-19-2005, 10:26 AM
I think it was Gibson guitars that they got.
They also had a section where Dave Navarro took them to a "rock star boutique" (in the mansion) and they looked at funky clothes and accessories to work on their style for the next performance. Jon Farris was there and he rolled his eyes a few times. I'm curious to see how some people are going to look tonight - some of their ideas were pretty bad. The Daniel Boone idea was awful, and so wrong for the band.
I thought it was really interesting to see inside the rehearsals. It showed how the singers interacted with the house band.
MSN has a page with blogs and episode recaps: http://rockstar.msn.com/recaps
JD continues to impress me with his confidence, professionalism and good ideas. He worked with the house band well. But his comment about "it's to his advantage to encourage people to do songs he think they won't do well" was a tad underhanded. He's good enough that he doesn't need to do that.

Okay, I watched last night for the first time and am totally hooked. My favs so far are J.D. (although I guess he didn't do so well last week from what I've read here) and Jordis - luv her!
I thought it was so funny when the INXS guy told that girl who'd been whining about her R.E.M. song that he really likes and respects R.E.M.'s music and he thought it was a great song. Totally put her in her place.

I think J.D, who I liked up to this point, was an ass when he made the comment about how the other singers are just now learnign INXS songs and he's been a fan for years. It was totally unneccseary and I think it may hurt him in the eyes of the band. If he's willing to backstab or insult others to succeed, is he really the guy you want as a bandmate? If he wanted to ass-kiss, he could have just mentioned that he had been a fan for years without saying that the other preformers weren't. That left a bad tast in my mouth.
I like TY, the girl with the dreads and the unusual name, and the dark haired guy whose hair is short but kind of wispy and combed into his face. (I hate that I suck so much at names!)
I agree about JD - he impresses me with his performances, but has to watch the attitude!
DH has a theory that when the band gives honest constructive criticism, that they like the person and want to see them go further (like Ty). But when they say something generic like, "That rocked," then they don't like them. We'll see :)

I completely agree with this. I was a fan of J.D.'s up until last night. When he made that comment, my jaw dropped about a mile. The band members of INXS must have seen the words suck-up in giant letters across his forehead, not to mention the fact that he probably alienated the rest of his competitors. It was a totally thoughtless remark all the way around. I did not vote for him last night because of it, even though I thought his performance itself was pretty darn good. Oh well.
That being said, I think the ones who will end up being called out tonight for lowest amount of votes will be:

I am NOT a Jessica fan at all either. She reminds me of Avril Levine somehow. I think it's that I get the sense from both her and Avril that they are really trying to be alternative, angst-filled "rockers", as Brooke Burke would say, but that deep down they are really super -girly pop princesses. She just seems so artificial and contrived and much more like she's acting like a rocker with all the stereotypical rockstar moves (devil horns, etc.) than that she actually is an edgy rockstar. And we totally get that you have nice abs, so you con't need to show every square inch of them every night.
Speaking of Brooke Burke...how hot is she?! Talk about a girl crush!!

JD's comment made him look so bad! I still think he's talented, but he better watch himself from now on. Villanelle75 you were right, he could have easily said that he was a long-time fan w/o bringing the others into it.
I was glad Neal went home. He just wasn't right and every song sounded alike. Same with Jessica. She needs to go home, too.
Tara isn't one of my favorites, but I kind of like her. She seems like a nice, genuine person. I'd like to see Jessica go home before her.

I liked Neal! I thought he had a Mick Jagger-esque thing going. Ah well, he couldn't really 'sing' but that was beside the point! lol.
I can't stand Tara or Jessica. What in the world was Jessica last night? Black lace gloves?! Are those still in? I thought those went out in 1988! :p
I will be the total oddball in this group and say that I don't care for Jordis at all. And I'm org. from Minnesota so I should be pulling for her! However, I just don't like the sound of her voice or her presence on stage. I'm baffled every time when she performs and INXS says 'That was great!' huh?
My new fave is the guy from Michigan who took JD to task the other night. He sang 'Sweet Home Alabama.' He's a bit scruffy looking. I think his name is Brenden?? Sad I don't know my fave's name. lol. Oooh, I also like the red head (Heather) as well. Her voice is awesome! Also like Ty. Wouldn't be disappointed if he won. :)

I just can not beleive that I'm so hooked to this show. I'm not even a fan of INXS either. I'm sure I'm the only one here who is not a fan of the groups but I surly like the show..
I nearly fell off my chair the other night when JD said that while the others are learning inxs songs I already knwo them casue i'm a fan..I could not beleive that he said that. I'm sure he ddn't mean it to sound bad but geesh the group and Dave give him a few compliment and now hes got a big head..LORD!
I'm not a fan of Jessicas either and feel she will be on her way out either net week or the week after. She sould have tried out for AI. :p
I do really like Heather, JD, Ty and Jordis. Though I do not think that Jordis will win. She just doesn't seem like the INXS type of person. But, now that i'm thinking about it there are more "rockers" then there are singers that would fit into the INXS group.
The few people that I hate hearding sing are tara, daphna and suzzie.
Deanna well I think shes trying out for the wrong group. SHe looks like a cute little courty gal..IMO

Did anyone watch last night? Has JD gone insane? Why was he acting so weird last night? I have a feeling that he might go this week if he tries to sing that crazy arrangement of We Are the Champions.
Wow - I'm behind :)
Regarding LAST week...I totally thought Neal should go home, but I felt that his performance had an energy that the girls' performances lacked. I can't put my finger on it, but the girls kind of put me to sleep...
Regarding last night...I so think JD has potential, but that attitude might do him in. Tonight should be good. A few of the singers are doing something a little different, so that should be fun to watch. I'm particularly interested in Ty's performance.

Okay so hes a good singer and all but what the hell is is up with his i'm to good additude and trying to tell Jordis why she sould not take the song he wanted. Hes a baby and needs to grow up and if by chance he doesn't get the song he wants OH WELL he needs to deal with it. Should be interesting how he changes his song. t was a cool think to change songs but now it seems as though he ahs to change everything 100%.
I can not wait to see how Tara does since I feel shes the weekest leak at this point follwed by Jessica. If they do change things up a bit I hope its for the better cause they sucked up to now.

I think I'm in love with Mig now. I thought Ty was amazing last night. I also kinda liked Marty. Nirvana is really hard to do, and I thought he did a pretty good job even though Dave has a bug up his butt and never likes anyone's version of Nirvana.
Heather was really bad, but she was sick so I hope she gets a break this week. Tara just doesn't do it for me, and I don't see Deanna as a rocker. Jessica improved a little (at least she covered her midriff), but I think she'll be in the bottom three again. Daphna just killed Rock the Casbah. What the hell was she thinking with that arrangement? It was nice to see JD get humbled a little. He wasn't very good this week. I am not seeing why they are all so in love with Jordis. She's cool, but I don't think she's that amazing. Susie really improved. Poor Brandon just couldn't get that song right.

Okay, I'm late to the party (just found this thread) but I've been watching from the first episode.
WHAT IS UP WITH JD being so weird? He seriously has some issues. He totally blew it with the song, and IMO, kind of used the fact that his sister was in the audience as an excuse. I think he has a lot of growing up to do.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I kinda thought they were harsh on Branden last night. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but considering that he chose a song that was not typically his style showed that he was willing to take a risk and with everything considered, I thought he sounded okay. I guess I just like him so I am cutting him more slack.
I also think Deanna has an awesome, awesome voice. Not quite sure if she is INXS material. But I have to say I love her Melissa Etheridge/Janis Joplin style. Very bluesy/sexy. (I am a big Melissa Etheridge fan.)
Tara and Jessica both need to go. LIKE YESTERDAY. Someone said earlier in this thread that Jessica is kind of like Avril Levine in that she is trying too hard to be the alternative rock- "bad girl" and it just comes off as fake. I think Tara has a nice voice, but she also tries too hard to be someone she's not and it shows.
I also really liked the guy that did the Nirvana song (I can't think of his name right now, the blonde guy) I think he has real potential and so does Mig.
Off topic, but I really do not like Dave (the one hosting with INXS). He really comes off as kind of arrogant. Something about him just makes my skin crawl. But its probably just me.

Boy did last nights show have some uncomfortable moments, both for the performers and the listeners. This was the one episode where the bad outnumbered the good.
Daphna murdered Rock the Casbah, which is a shame because I think she has the ability to do the song justice. I understand what she was trying to do, but she picked the wrong song.
JD is doing himself a huge disservice with his attitude. On Monday's show he made a comment about how the only bad thing the band said about him was to watch his ego, he totally missed the point, judging by how 'cocky' the comment sounded. No band is willingly going to hire a lead singer who is a conniving backstabber. He's the only one who appears visibly annoyed when another singer has a great performance and I don't buy the sister thing. His actions lately make me think he invited her so he could use her as an excuse. It's too bad his attitude sucks so badly because he is talented.
From last night, the only performances I can say I liked were Jordis, Ty, Mig and Marty.
I felt bad for Marty because I really think Dave misunderstood his "kick your ass" comment, he reacted as if he had been dissed. A better choice of words probably would have been "blow you away" but Dave's response could have been a little more constructive.
I am not seeing why they are all so in love with Jordis. She's cool, but I don't think she's that amazing.
I like Jordis - for me, it's the fact that I can picture/hear her doing any song well. Even one I dislike like Hoobastank's "The Reason".

DH and I stumbled onto this show last week and now we're hooked! It seems like a lot of the girls just blend together for me.
I thought that Ty, Mig, Marty, Deanna and Jordis did really well last night. I thought JD totally sucked and it was a cop-out to use your sister as an excuse.

Why is Dave Navaro acting more like a judge and less like a host? Does he think he's part of INXS, because by the way he talk too much you'd think the people are auditioning for *him* and INXS are the celebrity feature judges...not the other way around....ugh.

I totally agree with this. Who cares what he thinks of the performances? He doesn't have to perform with these people and his band isn't hiring them. He needs to just keep his mouth shut.

Mig *so* blew me away last night. He's been building momentum gradually since the beginning and last night he really shined. That moment at the end when he took off his jacket - it was the first time I thought I saw someone that could step into Michael Hutchence's shoes (and I don't say that lightly).
I've thought the Mig's vocals are a little lacking, but I think they are coming along. And his attitude is there.
So to answer Villanelle - MIG!
I was impressed with JD at first (after the intial debacle), but like everyone else has already said one way or another, WTF is up with him? Everytime he open his mouth to talk on the mic, he says something stupid. And I don't think the band is looking for a front-man who shoots his mouth off without thinking. Plus, he sucked last night.
It's kind of too bad, because I think the guy does have talent. If only he wasn't such a jerk.
My bottom 3 performances last night:
Heather (such a surprise, since she's usually so good.)
Daphna (and sorry Dave, I thought the dress looked awful with her wide-leg stance)
Jessica (she's so blah)
Honorable Mention: JD. If Heather wasn't sick, he would have been there.
I don't hate Marty as much as I used to, but I still hear his voice as much more punk than INXS.

The bottom three were: Daphna, Heather, and Jessica.
From the CBS website (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/rock_star/shows/ep03/?s=c)
DOUBLE WHAMMY: DAPHNA & HEATHER GONE
Despite last night’s shaky performance by J.D., the viewers’ bottom three are first-timers Heather, Daphna, and for the second consecutive time, Jessica. After the three perform their INXS songs, the band thinks that Jessica’s act is enough to save her, but that spells trouble for the final two. The crowd, including Dave Navarro, is stunned when both Daphna and Heather are eliminated. Everyone is shaken up by this turn of events, and emotions run high as the two say their goodbyes to their fellow performers.

I think that was a very smart move on INXS part by tossing both Heather and Jessica. I thought they both did bad and there for needed to go. Plus I don't think they would be good for the group. On that I think they should have had a triple whammy and tossed all three of the girls that were in the bottom 3. Thats would ahve been good since most shows these days ahve at least one episode where 2 people were tossed.
I'm still trying to make a quess on who will win. I just don't think any of then have it for some reason or another.

comments on last night's results show:
1. I thought it was so cool when some of the INXS band members came on stage to perform with the contestants! I hope they do that more often. I mean really, they are trying to find a band member, you'd think they'd want to actually perform with and not just watch the contestents.
2. Did anybody else notice that Dave Navaro (sp?) wasn't sitting "with" the band last night? Is it always like that on results shows? I got the distinct impression that the band wasn't pleased with Dave's remarks to the guy who did the Nirvana song - thus they forced the apology AND had him do the encore performance. Thoughts anyone?
3. Jessica SO needs to GO!
edited to add - I *heart* Mig!

I absolutely, wholeheartedly agree with your whole post. Yes, I also thought it was awesome that they got up and played. I can see why they don't do it more often though. I would imagine its hard to actually "watch" the contestants while playing with them. But I hope they do it more often.
I DEFINITELY think the band gave Dave a "talking to." :D GOOD. His attitude Tues. night sucked. I was giddy when he gave Marty an apology and asked him to do the encore. HEE HEE
Jessica needed to go, ummmm, the first week. Her time is coming, don't worry.
My prediction for the final three: Marty, Mig, and Jordis. (I believe they will have a "token" woman in the final three, and she is likely to be it.) I think Mig will take the whole thing. We'll see.

Agree with everything you said!
Jordis is great, I'm also not sure if she's right for "our band INXS" mostly because her talent could be wasted. I do know the band wants to record an original album and not just do a greatest hits tour.
I am so sick of Brandon the unshaven, he is not right for the band at all. He doesn't take direction well and is happiest doing country rock, fine, but this isn't Rockstar - Lynyrd Skynyrd.

JD, as much as I dislike him lately, ROCKED last night. (I hate to admit it.)
Did anyone else chuckle when Deanna's sister was in the audience and INXS made a comment about "wow, you could still perform with your sister in the audience." An obvious dig to JD. He didn't look too happy.
My predicitions for the bottom 3 this week: Jessica, Tara, and Ty. (I only say Ty because of that one performance. Otherwise I think he is great.

I love Jordis' voice! She has so much control. I nearly cried listening to here sing last night. I think she is the biggest talent there, although I'm not sure she is right for their band, INXS. ;P I think she is very pretty in an exotic way.
Mig is my favorite personality and stage presence. But vocally, I think he is lacking. I heard a some new dimensions to his voice last night and hope he continues to grow. I'm pulling for him.
Marty - I don't understand what everyone sees in him. His voice isn't bad, but he always sounds a bit pitchy to me, a bit out of time. I'm just not feelin' him.
I loved the way JD got ripped last night. Like when Deanna's sister was in the audience and (was it Dave?) said "your sister was there? And you didn't loose it?" JD is a fine peformer, but he's so slimy and manipulative - like on Monday when he intentionally signed up for 2 #1 songs so he could like nice and give one to Suzie. Is he trying to be the Omarosa of Rockstar? Still, I put him in my top 3 with Jordis and Mig.
Brandon didn't do Credence Clearwater Revival last night. I liked the way he handled the beginning of the song. He gets a reprive for showing promise - vocal lessons must've helped.
Tara - I think Gary nailed it when he asked her how she feels about doing covers. I don't think she's comfortable with it.
My prediction for the bottom 3:
Jessica
Tara
Ty - hate to put him there because I think he's great. But he blew Everlong. I hope he's there because I'm curious how he'd do with an INXS song. But I don't want him to go home yet - take Jessica, please! Or Tara.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. He does seem very musical theater to me.
I definitely don't think Tara is comfortable doing covers. That question really nailed her to the wall last night. You could tell, for a split second, that her immediate reaction was to say, "No, I hate doing covers."

Did anyone else catch Dave telling Jessica he'd like to see "more of the real Jessica.?" She kind of blew that off, but I think he nailed why people aren't comfortable with her. She doesn't come off as real on stage. Its like she's being someone she's not. Too bad she doesn't get it.
Here's a question for y'all: Who do you think will get the 'encore' tonight? I say Jordis. :)
villanelle75
08-03-2005, 11:10 AM
I think Jordis will get the encore, but I think the best performance of the night was JDs.
I thought this weeks performances were miles above last week and that no one really sucked. The worst of the night, IMO, was TY, but I love him adn think he got screwed in the song selection, and I thin kINXS knows that too and that's why they made a big deal of saying that in the critiques.
I think there are definitely two classes of performer appearing. The "upper class" IMO is Mig, Jordis, JD, and Ty. Everyone else is really talented, but just not the same caliber.
My favorite performace on of all up to this point is Ty's "Everybody Hurts" Mayeb that's in large part because I adore that song and have such a soft spot for it, but I though he was incredible at singing and perfomring that song.

Overall, the performances last night were good, but they paled in comparison to last week.
A couple of observations from last night:
Jessica- WTF is up with her crappy attitude when they critique her. Geez, she acts like a brat, very immature. They will probably get rid of her for that reason alone.
Jordis- Very surprised to see her do so poorly last night. I was really surprised how easy they went on her. That truly was not her night. You could tell when she walked away how disappointed she was in herself.
Brandon- I have always been a supporter of Brandon, but he can't seem to get out of the same old style. He just is not cutting it, IMO.
Mig and Marty - Rocked the house once again! I predict those two make it to the final two.
:D
BTW, does anyone know what happened to Monday nights? I've noticed they're doing the overview of each performer's song selection, etc. prior to each person's performance on Tuesday. So Monday nights are gone now?

Mig and Marty did great last night. I think JD might make it to the end only becasue they seem to like him. I not really care to much for him. Shes to cocky for me,
Deanna- I'm have never been to crazy for her. she just doens't seem t be a "rocker" to me. I think she would do much better being in country maybe.
Jordis- was not her best night but overall she still did good.
Brandon- I'm just getting tired of the dame ol same ol thing from him.
Suzie- I could pass on here too. Though she most defiantly has been getting better as the weeks go by.
Ty- He did very well last night too. I think he will go pretty far in the game but i feel he will not win it though.

The Monday show now comes on VH1 at 11:00 PM. I watched it and it was pretty good. They took the contestants to an interview type situation to see how they would handle the press. JD found out that he's the most disliked housemate and he took it pretty hard. You could tell by the end of the show that he was really trying to make an effort to be nicer to everyone.
The other thing that might come into play was the fact that Jessica showed up to her rehearsal very hungover and kept saying she was sorry but she drank too much and didn't feel well. The houseband made a comment that they thought it was very unprofessional since rehearsal was her job and it didn't look good. Hopefully, she'll go tonight.

I was okay with Brandon going, he does a pretty lousy job with INXS songs and seems reluctant to sing anything out of his comfort zone. Since INXS music isn't within that comfort zone, I think it was inevitable he would be cut. They tried to get him to branch out and he resisted.
I predict Jessica will go next week, oh wait or Deanna.

I've just started watching this recently, and even I know it's Jessica's time to go. I can understand their reasoning as to why they cut Brandon- he isn't right for INXS or their music and that showed in his performance last night. But to me, they should let the worst person go, and hand's down, that was Jessica. Here's to hoping next week is her last.
I think most of the people they announced in the Bottom 5 will go soon. I think it's going to come down to Mig or Marty, or maybe Jordis.

Am I the only one who friggin loves Ty? I think he's jsut got such an amazing voice and I love his huge, beamign smile.
I think INXS actually wanted Jessica to go, but Brandon's performance lef them little choice. He screwed up the words to an INXS song while singing it to INXS; it doesn't get much worse than that. The reason I say that I think they were trying to help him stay and make sure she went was that they picked a song that went really well with his style and voice. They could have just as easily picked something totally opposite his strenegths and said that they wanted to see him do something outside his comfort zone, but they didn't. I think Jessica will be gone as soon as INXS has any reasonable opportuntiy to get rid of her. She is getting better but she still the weakest of the bunch by far.

I am not ready to pick a winner yet out of these, but here are mine anyway:
TOP THREE
Mig
Marty
Jordis
Rounding out top five, I definitely think that Ty will make it. He may even overtake Jordis at the end. I will also say JD (very reluctantly). I can't stand him, but it seems he has some serious voters behind him keeping him in each week.

I actually tried to change the thread title after the show started, but it didn't go through. The board was new and I thought maybe you couldn't change thread titles on this board...? I'll try again.
Edited to add:
Ok ladies, I tried again and it didnt' work. Apparently a mod has to do the change? So I emailed the mod. Hopefully, the thread title will change to simply 'Rockstar: INXS' soon.

(Now this post is no business, just about the show.)
I've been on vacation and couldn't post, but DH and I were sure to watch the show. I can't believe they booted the Monday show to VH1 to re-run Two and a Half Men! I guess the ratings weren't great, but the last episode with the songwriting competition was really good. I'm so glad we didn't miss it.
Jordis and Marty's song was not as good as JD's. It seemed odd to me for her to criticize JD's melody as "too obvious" - aren't a lot of popular songs pretty catchy beats? I'm thinking she might be too Indie for a pop band like INXS. She finally showed a vocal weakness, too. "Layla" sucked.
I loved Marty's "Mr. Brightside." I tried to download it, but MSN won't download to a Mac (damn you Bill Gates!). I thought he was too punk at first and a little pitchy, but he's been really impressing me the last few weeks.
Villanelle75 wrote:
Am I the only one who friggin loves Ty? I think he's jsut got such an amazing voice and I love his huge, beamign smile.
Nope, Ty is my DH's favorite. I think he's a fabulous performer, too. But I think the band thinks he's a little too "polished" and showy for them. Can Ty be gritty?
Suzie did an awesome rendition of "Bitter Tears" - she really sings INXS well, but needs to liven up her personality. She did not deserve to be in the bottom 3 last week, but I liked hearing her sing.
MiG's voice continues to get more dynamic every week and show more depth. He seems like such a nice guy and he gave up so much for this opportunity, I'm pulling for him. I do think his voice is his weakness.
And JD - he's a really "interesting" character to watch. I've really liked some of his performances, but he's been equally bad, too. The guy is all over the place. Part of me wants to give him a break because he seems to want to be the singer of INXS more than anyone else there and that might infuence his behavior. Like he said to Jordis last night, this is not a band, but a competition to be in a band. So maybe if he's not competing, he wouldn't act like his has. But then again, he really might be a sociopath. Either way, he's entertaining to watch.
Lastly - Jessica. Nice girl, but she really needs to go home already. I predict this will be her week, unless Deanna really messes up, like Brandon did.
Count me in as another who can't wait to hear what Marty does with 'Hit Me Baby, One More Time.'

I've thoguht JD was a jerk all long, but I actually felt sorry for him a bit in during Sunday's show. It seemed liek since he's on the outs with everyone adn that they all get alogn so well, his ideas weren't beign considered at all. It's the first time I felt "on his side" at all and I do think he kind of brought it on himself, but I did understand where he was coming from.
Hmmm...seems like I'm in the majority, because I pretty much agree with what everyone has said :)
I'm a little disappointed about the Sunday night VH1 thing, becuase it's on too late for me :P I read this week's recap online - sounds like it was a good episode!
Anyway - I too LOVED Marty's "Mr. Brightside" and can't wait to hear his take on Britney. I too am sick and tired of hearing Jessica murder songs week after week (although she does do a good job with the INXS songs...).
I also wish Suzie would STOP CRYING ALREADY. I feel like she cries about everything! That girl has a real case of the waterworks...
Looking forward to tonight!

Something that Ty say on the Sun/Mon show struck a cord (no pun intended) with me. He mentioned how everyone in his group has really good social skills. I don't think he was comparing his group to the other when he said that, but I couldn't help but notice the other group seemed to lack them. And they paid for that.
JD is a jerk or rather a sociopath but I don't think his team dealt with the project well at all. Did Jessica have any input?
I can't wait to hear Marty sing Hit Me Baby, One More Time.

I *heart* Mig.
The only performances that I didnt' really like were Jessica, Deanna, and JD.
Jessica just baffles me. Each week she makes a comment on how a song really shows who she is and each the week the song's totally different.

Mig is incredible. :p His performance last night accompanying himself on the piano was just awesome. If he doesn't win this thing, I'll be shocked.
I was really surpised to see that Ty was in jeopardy to be in the bottom 3. I thought his performance rocked last night.
Deanna really struggled with that song. I felt kind of bad for her. J.D. obviously has not learned his lesson about being obnoxious. I tried to cut him some slack at first, but he is just being arrogant now.
"Hit me Baby" definitely wasn't one of Marty's best, but hopefully America will cut him some slack because he had to do a "Brit" song.
My prediction for bottom 3: JD, Jessica, and Deanna
Bbbethie

DH loves Ty but I'm just not feeling it as much. Love him as a performer but his style just doesn't mesh with INXS.
Mig on the other hand...what a beautiful performance. I honestly cried when Dave made the comment about how all he could think of was how much he loved his wife.
JD...definitely too arrogant. He has talent but who would want to be around him? I certainly wouldn't want to be in his band.
I hope Deanna is gone tonight.

Last night was definitely a challenge for some.
I am a MArty lover ands though he had a terrible song I think he did well with it. I mean how much can you do with a britney song?
I disagree with the praise of MiG's performance. His piano playing sacrificed some of his pitching. Alos he held the second to the last word of every phrase instead of the last one, which gave the song a disonant spin. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either.
JD. I didnt like hm at the beginning, then I started to like him ,then he opened his mouth and now I want him gone. I was surprised last night, I didnt know he had it in him to slow it down like that but he is such an obnoxious self centered, egotistical shmuck that he needs to go.
Deanna- She did well but she felt strained, like she was right at the edge and about ot lose it any moment
Ty- I like him but last night did nothing for me.
Suzy- poor sam cooke....
Jessica- when oh when will she be gone???? yet another song mutilated.
Jordis- I love Jordis but I didnt feel last night was her best, she really changed the song and not for the better.
but these are just my opinions :)

Marty is totally winning me over. If you look back a few pages, I couldn't stand him and wanted him gone. But every week he gets better. I loved his take on "Hit Me Baby" - he brought something darker to that song.
Suzie - I'll go out on a limb and say was awesome last night - better than Jordis. Her voice sounded great and when she sings, she seems to put her heart into the song. I think she does INXS songs very good, too. I'd go so far as to say that she's a better fit for INXS than Jordis...
Jordis... she has a beautiful voice, but I'm beginning to wonder is she can sing outside her comfort zone. If I was judging SOLEY on last night's performances, I'd put her in my bottom 3. Good thing she has plenty of credits stored up from past performances.
MiG - He's great. Glad he got to shine last night. His voice sounded the most dynamic I've heard from him yet. I thought his question to the band last night was good: "so we're just supposed to ignore the rules and do our own thing?" I think we'll see MiG being more aggressive and doing more to set himself apart, he's not going to let JD steal the spotlight.
Jessica - Her best performance yet. She can sing after all! Judging this week alone, I don't think she deserves to be in the bottom 3 for once. But her bad past performances are too much for her to overcome with one good one. She's the opposite of Jordis.
Ty - so much talent. Honestly though, I think he needs to tone his act down. Too much vibratto (sp?) when he sings, and he belts every word. He needs to vary his tone more. And the tongue - wtf was that? Scary, at the end. I told DH that I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the bottom 3, just because he may not be a fit. DH scoffed and offered to bet me $10.
JD - Not terrible, he made it. But due to everyone else's strong performances, he deserves to be in the bottom 3 more than Ty does. I'll cut JD slack on some of his more "inflammatory" comments last night because he was asked his opinon, and shouldn't be faulted for being honest about it. Being upfront and honest about your opinion can be an asset in a collaborative environment. Generally, people are so afraid of hurting someone's feelings but if people don't speak their mind, the group can head in a bad direction because people are too polite to say the truth.
Did you notice how scared JD looks when Marty is performing? (The camera panned to JD when Marty was performing and Marty when JD was performing -- are they trying to set up a rivalry?) I wonder if JD will crumble under the pressure and take stupid risks.
Deanna - She waved goodbye to the audience last night like she knows she's going. I'd give her one more week and say hasta la vista to Jessica first. Her voice was pretty last night.
My predicted bottom 3:
Jessica
Deanna
(this is tricky) Ty - could be JD if Ty fans rally the vote
My bottom 3 performances last night:
JD
Jordis
Deanna
Mig - WOW! I was struck by his emotion last night, and I have never been a fan of that song. I think he'll get the encore.
Marty is winning me over as well. Loved his Mr. Brightside, and loved his Britney last night too! Of course I have had "Hit Me Baby, One More Time," going through my head all day today.
Ty - I thought he did a decent job, but he's starting to feel too "slick" to me.
Jessica/Deanna - eh - enough already. I don't think either will make it to the band, they both have their talents, but I just don't see them as the lead singer of INXS.
JD/Jordis - I really loved them in the beginning, but it seems like they're starting to fade. DH felt that Jordis' performance was "American Idol" worthy. Usually we have that comment about Jessica :)
Oh yeah, and Suzie. Actually almost forgot to comment on her until I scrolled down and read my own complaint about how much she cries. I guess that says it all - not bad, but not that memorable :)
Looking forward to seeing the results tonight!

I think Suzie was the performer last night that DH and I talked all the way through and then looked up and realized she was finished singing. Obviously didn't grab us enough to even pay attention to her...
Ty - As we said a few pages back, I think he's too "musical theater" and not "rock-star" enough. I just see him being in a play about the band INXS, not actually being in INXS.

I really hope that Jessica or Deanna goes home tonight. I ahve had enough of them and its time for them to go.
JD: AHH what can I say. I really felt he did a not so great job last night and therefor should be one of the bottom 3. I do agree with an above poster that JD's comments should not be held against him casue he was asked his opinion but geshh. does he have to be so blunt all the time. Being honest is one thing but saying there song sounded S*&tty is another thing. What makes JD thing he so much better than the rest of the group.. YEah he may have some more tallent then. The guys a JERK!
Joridis: I'm still a huge fan of hers. I do thing shes not doing as well as she was in the beginning but i'll still vote for her.
Suzie :she has made great progress over the last few weeks IMO. But I'm not rooting for her to win.
Mig: I really liek him to. I truly think he will win the compition.
Marty: I am a fan of his too but his facial expression are a little on weird side. I felt he did a good job changing up the song.
Deanna/Jessica: PLease go home already. so they are in my bottom 3 most definalty.
Ty: I think hes okay but hes not the type to be in a rock group I don't think. Maybe like somone else said a play about INXS but thats about it..
Bottom 3
Jessica
deanna
ty
Or maybe JD just for being so cocky!

Suzie is annoying me more and more each week. She must think that she's a lot better than she really is. So many of the other contestants have been gracious when in the bottom three but she looks like she's going to throw a temper tantrum each time.

I completely agree with how the voting is going.
my top 3 since the beginning have been Jordis, Mig and Marty. Honestly thought I think Mig will probably win because I think he is better suited to INXS.

I have to disagree with you. I think she looks like she's about ready to cry. She's been giving great performances and INXS has told her she has one of the best voices of the competition - that's their opinon, not just Suzie thinking she's better than she is. So hearing positive feedback from the band and still being rejected by the public has got to hurt. It's hard not to take that personally.
What about MiG being so gracious and inviting the other's on stage with him last night? He's like the Anti-JD: he can promote himself and play well with others!

I also agree with this. Suzie has come a very long way in this competition and I definitely think she deserves to still be in it at this point. The girl has got some guts to keep on going strong even after she takes a beating!

well tonight was interesting.
let see:
Suzy- Her performance was kick ass, her vocal were good but something just didnt click for me
JD- His performance was good, his vocals were ok, started a bit rough got better but I just can't like him.
Deanna- my only problem was her outfit. SEriously..WTH was that?? the song was great (though I could hear Ty in it) performance was good.
Ty- Loved his performance
MiG- wasn't feeling his pants, liked the performance
MARTY- Ok, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Marty, TO me he can do no wrong. from his perfectly applied eyeliner to those awesome shirts he wears, to his quiet dignity. I think his vocals are awesome, and his performances intense.
And i dont think he is right for INXS. he is simply too good and too rock. I think it would be a damn shame for him to contain himself and sing bubble gum rock. and WTF was that comment that he needs to sing more and scream less. he has proven time and time again that he CAN sing.
Jordis- AY AY AY love ya girl but OUCH.
Aw man! Richard got Rockstar gossip today and he said that I'm not allowed to post it as it may lead directly back to him as a leak *pouting*

You know, I think Suzie is a good singer and all, but I just can't connect with her. I don't think she puts a lot of feeling or passion into her songs. I like her voice and personality, but something's missing for me. Maybe that's why the band likes her but the TV audience doesn't.

I was talking to DH last night after the show nad we have come to the conclusion that the only 2 people that would "fit" INXS would be Suzy and MiG.
they aren't my favorites but since its not who I like but who is Right for the band those 2 seem to fit the bill.
TY needs to revive Living Colour
Marty and Jordis should go write beautiful music together and rock out

I wasn't overly impressed with last night's performances. Most everyone was good, but no one really stood out. It will be interesting to see who gets the encore- I'm going to say Suzie b/c she did do a good job last night and I think INXS will want to single her out after all the times she's been in the botttom 3. I think Deanna will probably go, with Jordis (who was horrible last night) and either Ty or JD in the bottom 3.

Jordis really surprised me with how bad she did last night. Wow... Or rather, ouch!
Deanna's song was pretty good, especially considering it was written in only 2 days.
Suzie does have a problem connecting with the audience, I think. I never like her clothes. She did go all-out last night, good job.
Ty was great, too. I do think he's in my top 3 as being "right for INXS." INXS does have a soulful elemenent, and Terrance Trent D'Arby has stood in for them in the past.
My top 3 (for INXS): MiG, Suzie, Ty
Runner up: Marty
My bottom 3 for tonight:
Jordis
JD - he's starting to sound like an amp-ed up lounge singer
Marty - I like him, but he does loose control sometimes. Towards the end of the song, he was getting shaky and scary again. When he reigns that in, he's great. But INXS is not a punk band, he needs to keep more control. Still, a song by Marty is the only one I'd think of downloading.
Mig just barely missed my bottom 3. I thought his song sounded like a million other garage-band songs. But got to give him some credit, it was short notice.
It's going to get really hard to do eliminations now. After Deanna, I don't want anyone to go!

I was rather sad to see Deanna go. I thought her song was good and I thought she sang Elegantly Wasted really well.
I was shocked, I thought Ty would go because he sang terribly last night.
Anyone watch last night? I finally caught a Sunday night show :D
Wow to JD not learning the song. What was he thinking? At first when they were showing him alone, I thought he might just want to practice alone, since he seems so much more competitive than everyone else. Guess not.
Should be a good show on Tuesday. I thought that everyone got songs that seemed well-suited to them, except for maybe Suzie. I guess the jury is out on that one.
Speaking of her, is anyone else totally annoyed by Suzie? I think she has a great voice, but she just drives me nuts :)

If anyone wants me to delete this post, just let me know.
Ty - You Can't Always Get What You Want - He was so TY and by that I mean so Vegas. He was good but I just don't think there was anything in that performance to convince me that he should be the lead singer for INXS. He would be one of my picks for the bottom three just because of that. I don't really get why he got a standing ovation. But he was good.
JD - Suspicious Minds - Tonight did nothing to the win me over to become a JD fan campaign. He totally shot himself in the foot with this is the first time I sang this song comment and I get what he said after he explained it. Still I think it was weak excuse. JD was much better last week as far as I am concerned. Hand in My Pocket, CA Dreamin' and The Letter were all better than this.
Marty - Wish You Were Here - I think this was my favorite performance of the night. I really like Marty, but I hadn't been blown away since Lithium and this was better than that, in my opinion. It was such a nice change and I liked the show of emotions at the end of the song.Jordis - Imagine - I am VERY over Jordis by this point. It was a beautiful rendition of the song and one of her best performances in weeks but it didn't knock my socks of either. I am glad that she seems to be back vocally.
MiG - Live and Let Die - I am a MiG girl, so he can no wrong in my eyes. This was bar none my favorite performance of his....although the shirtless Lola cd performance could rival it. I like that it was something totally different than he had already done. I can't argue with the criticism about his sometimes nasallly singing voice. I still love his voice regardless.Suzie - Bohemian Rhapsody - What to say that hasn't already been said? She was spectacular. I am a huge Queen fan and even I enjoyed it. I think it was her best performance yet.]Judge's comments:
Ty - You Can't Always Get What You Want - got a standing ovation and tongue bath.JD - Suspicious Minds - He was a little dumb. Saying that he had never sung the song before when everyone knows he was an Elvis impersinator. He tried to say that this was the first time he had done the song as JD and he uses some of MiG's comments about doing this for closure. Didn't go over well. He was ripped to shreds.Marty - Wish You Were Here - He got more applause than he did after Lithium. I was in the seated area and he got a standing ovation from quite a few of us too. It went on and on until we were told to be quiet. They Dave said....just because I love you....Marty Casey everyone and we got to go on and on again. He didn't get a standing O from the judges. Most of his comments were great although there was a very mild comment about his pitch.
Jordis - Imagine - another standing O and tongue bath.
MiG - Live and Let Die - another standing O. They asked him to do an 80's rocker scream and he did....very well too and an 80's rockers goodnight scream. I hope one of those survives the edit. Two of them talked to him about singing through his nose and being a bit nasally sometimes. Overall it was nice....but the editing could make it look bad.I must also say this about MiG. They asked him why he didn't find for Bohemian Rhapsody at the beginning of the show. First of all he said, I am a lover not a fighter and that got lots of screams. Then he said something along the lines of: I have been singing that song every day for _________ years. I know that I can do it well but I am ready to move on and put that in my past. He said the he loved WWRY but now he is ready to be the front man for INXS and he wanted to show them that by going for the other song. INXS loved this. The audience loved it. Lord knows how it will be edited.
Suzie - Bohemian Rhapsody - standing O - This standing O I totally agree with. WOW. She got a well deserved tongue bath and was told it was best performance of the whole competition. I disagree...but I digress.
one more word to the wise.....girls.... the last note by MiG goes on forever lol. Dave said that he was 17 when the note started. I mean chills girls, chills.

I thought that last night's show was the best one yet! My only complaint has to do with that choir they had. Sorry, but I didn't find them particularly talented. Plus, they were too young (an adult choir would have been much, much better IMO) and at times, tended to drown out the singers themselves. However, the strings section and the house band more than made up for it! In short, they rocked!!
Anyway. I feel like at this point it is getting more and more difficult to choose who should go home. The remaining six are a very talented bunch. That being said; I believe that JD is the one who probably deserves to go. I can't believe he didn't bother learning the new INXS tune and that may have hurt his chances considerably. Plus...I just don't like him. :o

I sooooo agree with this. DH and I did NOT like the choir; it was great in theory but they just couldn't pull it off.
I'm still not a fan of Suzie...I know I'll be in the minority here but we thought the band carried her and she had some poor spots vocally. Don't hate me...just my opinion.
Mig, on the other hand, is so dreamy! I'm liking him more and more each week. I'd love to see him that the whole thing.

me, too! i thought she was okay. i can't believe someone said it was the best performance of the season. maybe something gets lost when you watch it on tv. i think if someone else, like JD or marty or mig, had done it, they would've rocked out more, especially at the end. she was pretty boring to me.
Bbbethie - so far you are not in the minority - I agree with you and icedwhite about Suzie :) She was ok. It seemed to me that she was concentrating very hard and maybe not able to have as much fun with the song since it was so difficult. I don't know...
LOVED Marty's "Wish You Were Here." Also loved Mig's performance. I thought JD was ok - nothing special. Kind of felt the same way about Jordis. I loved her in the beginning of the competition, but I'm kind of over her now. I liked Ty's "Can't Always Get What You Want" - not sure he's right for INXS though? I thought that song suited him well.
Should be interesting tonight!

I agree with what you are all saying about Suzy. I've always said she has a nice voice but clearly, the band and choir carried her last night. I think almost ANYONE would have sounded good with all that backup (okay maybe not anyone, but you kwim. :) )
I'm over JD. Go home already, you are sleazy and a poor sport.
Jordis - honestly, I like her, but (and this might sound odd) I think she can do better on her own than as the lead singer of INXS. I bet there are already people out there writing songs for her. I don't see her as the winner, but I do like her. I loved seeing her parents in the audience! Her Dad looked like a Jerry Garcia impersonator! ;) Very cool.
Ty - Over him already too. Good singer, but he should be on broadway not in INXS.
Marty - I was glad to see he wasn't trying to pop a blood vessel last night singing. He looked a little less scary last night. He's showing some improvement, I think.
Mig - HUBBA HUBBA. 'nuff said. ;)

Marty ("Wish you Were Here" gave me goosebumps)

Encore: Not that it was my favorite, but just by INXS' reaction to her last night, I am guessing it will be Suzy.
I'll have to agree with both of you - my vote would be Marty. But I think in reality it might be Suzie. Unless they don't want to go through all that effort again (strings, horns, choir, etc.)...

Marty didn't do much for me. I really don't like his affected accents when he sings (he's from Chicago, not Britain!) I got a kick out of MiG's performance (even though DH kept trying to replicate MiG's heavy metal scream all night). I'm hoping it's Ty's night to go. He's a good singer, but not right for the band.

my bottom three would have to be Ty, JD and MiG.
I loved marty, he made me all sweaty :sigh:
Suzy did well but she bugged me, she made the song into a gigantic joke, it was like comedic musical theater.
Jordis was wonderful she sang Imagine beautifully.
as far as my bottom 3 go.
ty- I cant even remember what he sang, all i can remember is that his pants were a little snug on the butt and I could see the line of his boxers on his thighs.
JD- he just bugs me and he killed that song.
MiG (yes I am the minority here) I find him overrated, when you play him back he sounds terrible. I felt the band carried him through last night, his singing was really sub par.
who should get the Encore? Marty or Jordis. who will probably get it, Suzy.

I have to make a comment about marty: I can not stand his facial expression when he is singing. It kills me to watch him!!
I'm not feeling szie one bit and there is noway she will win this compition ..Not a chance. I mean she doesn't suck or anythign I just done't think shes the right person for the group. IMO
I truly really like Mig. I hope he goes all the way. He does very well with all of his songs and he take everything very seruiosly and really works well with others..
TY: HMM I'm over him! He does sound good but I could bass on him.
I hope JD goes tonight.
But i think maybe ty may

Any reactions to the elimination last night?
I wasn't surprised with the bottom three, but didn't necessarily agree with them. I've already stated that I'm not a big fan of Suzie and wasn't impressed with her performance Tuesday night. Still wasn't surprised that she got the encore. However, I was very sad to see Ty go home. I agree that he's not right for the band but I thought a couple others should've gone home before him.

I too, thought Suzie should have gone home well before Ty. She is clearly getting a little cocky now. When they asked everyone to raise their hand if they thought they would be in the bottom 3, she was the only one who didn't and had a big grin on her face. She's all proud of herself for now. I can't wait to see her bubble get burst. (Ok, I am evil. :p )
I was disappointed in Ty's remarks. He was bascially saying the only reason he was in the bottom 3 was because of his race, because he is such an awesome performer, that it couldn't be his performance. What, everyone else that got booted off deserved it, except you? Get over yourself, Ty. Its a competition and you lost.
I didn't think either JD or Jordis did very well with the INXS songs either.
The competition is getting tight! :)
Bbbethie

RileyMom - I, too, was disappointed with Ty's remarks also. I hate it when everything comes down to race. I just think his style didn't fit with the band; in my opinion, it had nothing to do with race. However, I would've loved to see Suzie and JD go home before TY. So sad.
My choice for the final two are Mig and Marty.
Jordis - honestly, I like her, but (and this might sound odd) I think she can do better on her own than as the lead singer of INXS. I bet there are already people out there writing songs for her.
I don't know whether anyone is "writing songs for her", but I do *know* (wink, wink) that the word in the industry is that there are labels just waiting in the wings for her if she gets bumped.

I was very disappointed to see Ty go home - he was a much better performer than JD. JD is not in the same caliber as the remaining singers, IMO. He has been giving poor performances and massacred "This Time." Why is he so popular?
Ty may not have been right for the band, but he was talented. As for his comments - I think it was gutsy of him to say it. I've been thinking the same thing myself. Except for "Everlong" none of his performances were deserving of the bottom 3. I don't think people were consciously not voting for him because of his race, but I do think it was a subconscious factor.
Aww...bye Ty! I'll miss him. I agree with Secret_Squirrel about his comments - that did take guts, and I don't think he overdid it. He did end on a positive note, which seems to be the norm for him. In general I was impressed by not only his talent but his good attitude.
Totally agree with INXS about the "underwhelming" performances last night. At the time I actually thought Ty was the best of the 3.
I'll be interested too see what the clinic/challenge is on Sunday. Recording the INXS song was great - much better than the "fashion clinic" imo :-)

I hear what you ladies are saying, it did take a lot of guts to say it. But I guess from where I sit, he really made it quite far into the competition before showing up in the bottom 3 at all. I think I would be more inclined to buy into the "race card" if he started being in the bottom 3 from the beginning. But he' s obviously had a lot of fans to have carried him this far in, no? There have been several others (Jessica, Suzie, Tara) who were in the bottom 3 A LOT from the beginning. So I am just not buying it.
I do agree, though, that JD or Suzie should have been voted out before him. But there are many other reasons for that other than race. I just think that people prefer their "style" over Ty's style.
ETA: Not that this is right (beause it is part of his appearance), but I don't think the spiked "mohawk" hairdo did him much good either. It just didn't look right with INXS.

Wow, I can't believe so many people think that Suzie needs to go. I guess I'M in the minority because I think she's awesome.
She's got a strong voice and has improved a lot since the beginning. And her performances have been consistent lately. Although I don't think she'll win the whole thing (Mig's though competition) I DO think she still deserves to be there.

I didn't see when Ty was kicked out but I will say from the remarks he made about it being a race issue was just plain stupid.
Early on INXS told him to stop the theatrics but he kept it up but wasn't in the bottm 3 because FANS thought he was good but even his FANS thought he wasn't right for this band. He hardly ever tried to make the song his own. He was cocky and he got on my NERVES!!
The reason didn't want him was because he wasn't for the band. Plain and simple. He's a great singer but just not for INXS!!!!
Like Deanna....she has a great voice but wasn't for INXS. As much as I love Jordis not right for the band. Marty, Mig and even that irritating Suzie fits INXS.
I thought JD should have left the first week, I felt like he violated me when he was touching himself on stage. And his arrogance just gets to me.
Just because you don't get a job doesn't mean its a race issue. If that was the case I would use this card every chance I get.

Ty disappointed me greatly with his closing remarks to INXS Wednesday night. As someone stated earlier, if he had been in the bottom three consistently, then I would possibly think that his comments were justified somewhat. But the fact of the matter is, his elimination had nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his ill-fit with the band. Period. I hate it when people play the 'race card' unfairly. There are far too many people truly discriminated against on a daily basis. Ty was not one of them.
J.D. should go home next. I can't make up my mind who should win the top-slot at this point. I would say it is going to be between Mig and Marty. But who knows.

Opinions on the latest show?
Overall, I think it was pretty disappointing. IMO, Suzie butchered the Bonnie Rait song but still got nothing but praises from Dave and INXS. Ich! I've always loved Mig, but it wasn't his best performance. Jordis had another bad night. JD is just as cocky as ever. Marty had the best original song by far and my money is on him for the encore.
What did you guys think?

i thought jordis was awful (and i am a big fan of hers)! i wouldn't be surprised if she got the boot today. if not today, soon. i think either marty or jd will get the encore.
i still can't stand suzie. i'll admit she has a good voice, but i think she's boring to watch and has no stage presence.

I thought Jordis was great, Loved her song but felt the lyrics will count against her.
Even though I cannot stand JD I felt his Song was GREAT, I hated what he did with the nirvana song though.
MiG- never been a big fan of his, felt he did justice to the black crowes song vocally but he didnt have the vibe. his own song bored me to tears.
Suzy. she did better with he song than deanna did, her song left me cold.
Marty- Everlong was not his best performance BUT his song Trees was AWESOME we rewound it and played it back 3 times.
JD - didn't love the Nirvana, but I could see why he did it that way. I really liked his original.
Suzie - didn't like her Bonnie Raitt - can't put my finger on why but I think it just kind of bored me. Her original song was ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. I thought INXS had it right on by saying something like - well considering you had to throw this together in a few days, it wasn't bad.
Jordis - I think she'll be going home. I think she has a fantastic voice, but she just seems to be losing steam in this competition.
Mig -I thought he did "Hard to Handle" well. His original wasn't bad, but was kind of boring. And INXS was right when they said that basically they wouldn't ever do a song like that.
Marty - LOVE HIM! I liked his performance of Everlong, though I agree it wasn't his best. Trees was great. It has been stuck in my head all day today!! I think he'll get the encore...
So I'm thinking eventually they will have to switch up the way they are doing things on this show - after tonight there will only be 4 people left - so will everyone except 1 have to do an INXS song next Wednesday? And what about the week after? Does anyone know?

I hate to say it, but I think JD was the one who shined last night. (AND BELIEVE ME, it pains me to no end to say it. ;) :o ) I thought his original song rocked. I would buy it.
I am a big, gigantic MIG fan, but last night was not his best. I am still rooting for him to win though. I'll be in the minority and say that I don't think "hard to handle" was all that good of a song for him.
Jordis - LOVE her, have since the beginning, but I fear her time may be up. I give her credit though, for being so young and dealing with all this so well. I still think she will do great on her own.
Suzie - someone already said it for me: She has a great voice, I'll give her that. But she just doesn't do it for me. She is blah. I also admit that I'm still a little turned off by how sulky she was in the beginning, right from the very first time she ended up in the final 3. It was such a pity party. She kind of acts like a big baby and its old.
Marty - Again in the minority I guess, but not a Marty fan here. "Trees" was, well different, I guess but I still thought JD's was better. I would not buy it. But, to each their own!

I *loved* Marty's original. Very catchy. He showed the true Marty isn't ju
JD is an evil genius. He gets the most out of the least amount of talent. His song was good and - while I think he ripped off Tori Amos - he re-worked the Nirvana song to disguise the fact that he couldn't pull it off any other way.
MiG - just a little boring last night.
Jordis - I thought she did well, and I liked her song second best.
Suzie - Her voice is beautiful. At least she wasn't wearing a coat again.

My thoughts on the show last night...
I think JD is trying to be nicer, but I still don't like him. His statement about taking INXS into his heart made me want to be sick. He's so full of #*%*! I think it was a good reality check for him to be in the bottom three.
I was sad to see Jordis go...but it was her time. Her performances have been declining lately and I think she was just plain tired of it all. I'm sure she will find great success.
Suzie's performance was strong vocally, but she still seemed to pout when she was in the bottom three. I'm hoping that she's next to go home.

My husband said he was getting flashbacks of Air Supply. :shudder: I like Mig, but the more I watch him, the more convinced I am that he didn't shake the "musical theater" act. He plays a great rockstar but he isn't a rockstar. KWIM? Also - he can't do *dark* but I don't see why that would be an issue, INXS never has either.
I still watch the show faithfully but I'm over it, I don't care who wins and I'm not sure I care to hear another INXS song. Ever. :(
That said, I really don't want Marty to win. I want Marty to do bigger and better things then front a band that was at it's peak in the '80's.
I want Suzie to shut up. I'm sick of her whining. Or rather:
I'm gen-u-whine-ly sick of her whining. :p
I actually think JD is every bit as 'stagey' as Mig but in a different way. He's an impersonator (Elvis) and I've been detecting a little Michael Hutchence impersonating recently.
That said I think JD will win and INXS will enjoy a little new found fame, but I don't think it will sustain for an entire international tour.

katmg - ITA with you about Marty. I think I want the Marty CD. Not the "Marty sings INXS" CD.

Hmmm...so maybe the person who should win is JD. ITA with everyone else about Marty; I think he has a big bright future in front of him and I don't think it is with INXS. Like Witty Username said, this show and JD winning the gig will be enough to propel INXS to lots of press and new fame. Do I think they will still be rocking and selling millions of albums even two or three years down the road?? No.
I would not buy an INXS album with Suzie at the helm.
Mig needs to go back the theatre gig or start his own band.
Marty is going to have a huge hit single with "Trees". I can't get that tune out of my head!! :D

His last few performances have been alot weaker, and his musical theater background is showing as it appears he is "acting" as a rockstar. He still is one heck of a nice guy and I hope his musical career continues to go well.
I do like Suzie's voice and thought she did a great job with 4 non blondes last night, but her rock star dance moves make me cringe. I feel seriously embarrassed for her when she jumping around on stage like an idiot- it just doesn't seem natural.
As far as I'm concerned Marty or JD is your winner. That was pretty clear to me once INXS asked only them to perform their original songs one more time. I agree with those who want to see Marty make it on his own. Let JD take his rhinestone megaphone and Michael Hutchence impressions out on tour with the band.

I am pretty much in agreement with all of you. And it pains me, it really does.
I like Mig, he seems like a *genuinely* great all-around person, has a great smile, and he has a nice body to boot. :) His last few performances have been a bit weak though. Even though I think he will go, I am actually very sad about it. I truly like him. I just wished his performances last night would have been better.
I think JD is your winner too. SHUDDER :o I can't stand him, but something tells me he's the one.
At this point, I'll take anyone over SUZIE. She is annoying the crap out of me more and more each week. I've said it before -- she has an amazing voice, I'll give her that. But the crying, and whining, blech! I can't stand her! And what is up with the pretending to "pass out" on stage at the end of each song? Please, enough with the drama act, ITS NOT WORKING FOR YOU!!
Marty I agree with everyone else, his style doesn't mesh with INXS. I predict that he and JORDIS will do the best on their own.

I really really like Mig but I'm not sure he will win. Suzie is my guess for who will be going tonight. Most of you won't agree with me but I find Marty annoying. Sometimes I really like what he does but I am tired of the screaming. As much as I don't like JD, I think is improving each week where some of the others (Mig and Jordis) are/were not doing as well as they had in the past.

I see JD as the winner, too.
If you watched the Sunday VH-1 show (or read the recap, like I did) the band comes right out and says that he reminds them of Michael. It will be hard for anyone to overcome that, unless the band really wants to go in a new direction.
MiG, as much as I love him, just doesn't bring it. He made the Rolling Stones sound like a show tune. Nice abs, though.
Susie - who has an awesome voice - cries every episode. Is a group of men who've been a band together for 20+ years going to want to deal with that? Plus, she won't bring the screaming female fans that INXS was used to.
Marty - Didn't like him at first, but I converted to Marty's side. I *love* Trees and his interpretations of songs (like "Hit me Baby"). But he's better off as a solo artist. If INXS chose him, I totally see him fullfilling his contractual obligations and then going solo.
Honestly, I think JD is best for them. INXS is never going to re-invent themselves into a big comeback. JD is a good showman and knows how to channel Hutch, plus he brings some new blood to the band. "Pretty Vegas" is catchy and a good fit for INXS. It's pragmatic. Last night almost made me forget his shaky earlier performances.
But DH swears he'll never listen to INXS again if they choose JD. I don't think he is their targeted demographic, however.
And as much as I hate to say it (because I make fun of the American Idol fans) I'd go to a "Rockstar" concert if it was inexpensive. It'd be cool to see Jordis and Ty and the "loosers" of the top 4.

Hee hee - I asked my DH last night if Dave goes "both ways." He doesn't creep me out, but he did give me a strange? vibe last night.
Suzie's gone!! Can't say I'm surprised or upset.
Yay! I will get to see at least one episode of RockStar without Suzie :D
Yeah, Dave Navarro creeps me out. I can't stop staring at him when he's onscreen, and not in a good way. I think the heavy eyeliner and manicured brows have something to do with it.
Mig surprised me last night - I thought he did great! Performance/theatrical/whatever you want to call it - I thought it was good.
Next week should be interesting. I was afraid they might keep Suzie around just to have a female in the finale; I'm glad they didn't.

Yes, I have always gotten strange vibes from Dave. He kind of weirds me out in a "rocky horror picture show" kind of way. ;)
If you heard a loud screetch from way up here in the coast of Maine, that would have been me doing the happy dance when they voted out Suzie. :o I could barely watch when it was down to Mig and Suzie. I kept saying "please be Suzie, please be Suzie" about 10 times.
I was afraid they might keep Suzie around just to have a female in the finale; I'm glad they didn't.
Yup. I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I thought for sure they would keep a "token" female in the final 3, I've said that since the beginning. So glad they didn't. In this case, the heck with equal rights. :D (j/k)
I want Mig to win. There, I've said it. I dont' care if he is not the most talented out of the final 3. (Truth be told, Suzie actually had the most singing talent out of the four, and I still didn't want her to win.) I just plain like him, is all. He seems to have such a great personality. DH says its just because I think he has a nice butt, but really that isn't it. Has anyone else noticed though the whole season that when the other performers are on stage that it is Mig who is really rooting for everyone and cheering everyone on? He always is smiling, and has such good commraderie (sp?) and an overall good spirit. His smile is contagious, and the audience LOVES him. To me, INXS should take all that into account when choosing a winner, not just who has the best voice or even talent. They are going to want someone who will draw people in. I think Mig could do that.
JD is scary to me. He has a dark side that would worry me. I would not want him in my band. Yes, he has talent, and yes he could sell tickets, but there is something about him that is very artificial to me. Like he is hiding something. I can't put my finger on it. He is evil. ;)
I want Mig to win. Really, really bad. :)

YES - I especially noticed this last night when they were showing clips from the mansion from the previous night. Granted, they only show what the producers want, but Mig had something positive and specific to say about each of the performers - like Suzie's energy and going into the crowd, Marty's note in Creep, etc.

YES! I picked up on that too. I dunno, I just think he has a good image that wouldn't hurt INXS at all. I know that a nice guy does not a rock star make, but hey what can I say I always root for the nice guy. (Uchenna and Joyce, anyone? ;) )
I change my mind about Mig. I originally thought he'd go to the end. I really like him, but I don't think he's quite right for INXS. He's too pop to me. Last week, when he was singing his original song, I had flashbacks of Richard Marx (remember him?). He's my guess for who goes tonight.

Here's a wild internet rumor I picked up on the Rockstar message boards:
*gossipy whisper voice*
Mig is a plant - the band already chose him to front INXS before the show started. Supposedly, one of the top 20 members (in the untelevised part of Rockstar) had a website up with a group photo - and guess who wasn't in it, hmmm??
MiG wasn't part of the top 20. He just "appeared" as the "good guy" for the series. MiG will win the final because he's already been chosen.
At first I didn't believe it - but then again, there is a link to MiG nailing "Need You Tonight" on the INXS.com website. The band already knew MiG could do "NYT" when they gave it to him last night.
This is Mark Burnett after all. I predict it will come down to MiG and JD - (or "Good" vs. "Evil" in a typical "reality" TV showdown).
And MiG will win.

You know, the more I am sitting here thinking about it, this makes perfect sense. This is smelling a lot like the Amazing Race with the "evil" Rob and Amber and the good Uchenna and Joyce. :p
That rumor has been floating around for awhile. Dave Navarro, on his site, said it wasn't true.

It seems to me that INXS has already decided the winner. I mean, can anyone see INXS releasing "Trees" or MiG's Richard Marx-esque song? "Pretty Vegas" suits them to a tee (well, obviously, because they wrote the music).
But INXS is hugely popular in Australia and they might want to appease their fans by picking a fellow Australian than appeal to their American fans, who are few and far between these days.
All three won Honda Civics? How Rock Star!!!

I'm sad to see Suzie go as she did have the strongest voice out of the 4, but I guess INXS isn't just looking for vocal talent...
It's pretty obvious to me that they're going to pick Mig as their lead singer. He can do no wrong in their eyes. I'm just not that impressed with him.. and what's with his super tight pants?? They don't leave much to the imagination

Yes, they may very well favor Mig, but remember its the public that votes, and Mig has never been in the final 3 AT ALL until last week, unlike Suzie who has been in the bottom 3 several times. So INXS has really not even had a chance to get rid of Mig even if they wanted to, until last week. :)
I think INXS would be (and has been so far) very smart to pay attention to what people want. It was pretty clear that people (the voting audience) is far more impressed with Mig than Suzie. Why would they choose someone who the audience has put in the bottom 3 several times over someone who has never been in the bottom 3, kwim? The people voting are also the same ones buying CD's and concert tickets. Just sayin.' ;)
I also agree that Suzie has a fabulous singing voice, by the way. I don't think many people would dispute that. I think INXS has kept her around this long for that very reason, despite the fact the audience put her in the bottom so many times.

Hmmm...I like the 'good vs evil' thing that has been kicked around on this thread! It just sorta rings true to me. Mig is just an all-around nice guy (who also happens to be incredibly sexy!). JD has a very definite dark side and is rough around the edges. I can't quite put my finger on what it is about him that makes me cringe! IMO, he is way to volatile for INXS to take a risk on! INXS Reality Show Betting Controversy: The Mig Fix Is In?
Unless it’s just a calculated, viscious rumor circulating ‘round ye interweb, there is allegedly a mole in the mix on CBS’ grave dancing reality show Rock Star:INXS. According to a strain from the INXS message board via Ultragrrl, contestant Mig Ayesa is to be declared the winner thanks to a nice little pre-fixed competition snafu that is not-so-gracefully tumbling out:
“I have been holding back for a while, but I can’t take it anymore!!
I was one of the final 50 selected to go to LA for the final round for the INXS:Rockstar show. I wrote a journal about my experience and described all 50 contestants I saw when I was there. From day one we were told 14 people make it to the show…14…14…14…14!!! I have contracts to prove this. Anyway, all of sudden the show airs and there are 15 contestants…go figure! I recognize all of them, except one…MIG! He WAS NOT at the audtions. I promise you!!"...

Did anyone watch the Sunday night show on VH1? I am very, very concerned with Mig's decision to do "Bohemian Rhapsody". He said he is moving on from his "We Will Rock You" days, then why choose this song above the hundreds that he had to pick from?? Why, why, why oh why? For that matter, I would also like to know why Marty chose a song he has already performed before. ("Wish You Were Here") Yes, he did a great job with the song. But...I just think it's nuts to go with the 'safe bet' here. This is their very last chance to impress INXS and get a shot at fronting the band. I just don't get it.

JD chose "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones. (originally performed by Ty on the show where they had the string section and choir) He was practicing it at the end of the show and sounded really, really good! If INXS bases their choice on the final performances (which hopefully they won't) then JD is a shoo-in. I just don't understand why Mig wants to do 'Rhapsody'. :(

Bohemian Rhapsody is a very difficult song to do. It doesn't get him outside of his Queen background, but if he does it - and he does it better than Suzie by hitting all the high notes - it will be impressive. BH well sung can be a dynamite performance.

True. But INXS already knows he can do BR...after all, he was in "We Will Rock You". If he couldn't sing that song, no way would he have landed the part in the musical to begin with. I am most certainly not going to argue with the fact that Bohemian Rhapsody is a difficult song. I am just concerned that INXS may view it as a cop-out on Mig's part..... :(

I don't get it either. I was very disappointed Marty picked "Wish You Were Here". Yes, it was the song where he found a 'different voice' but why not try to apply that voice to another song? Maybe he'll surprise everyone and do "Pretty Vegas" since he also snagged that one from the pile.

I think Marty should have picked "Pretty Vegas" to sing as that will potentially be INXS's new single. So far we've only heard JD sing it, so if I were Marty I would want to show INXS what the song sounds like sung by a different voice.

I doubt it could be INXS's new sinlge unles they chose JD. JD clearly has the cong-writing credit on the lyrics, at least, so I imagine that's "his" song. Unless he signed over rights to INXS to use it with a different singer, I don't think Marty would be singing it as an INXS single.
I really thoguht that Marty and Migs song choices were pretty poor. You could tell that Marty thoguht Mig was making a mistake I think when they were talkign about ti at the piano, but I assume he didn't want to point out the cons of that coice since it would be really helping out his competition to do so. Unfortunatley for Marty, I don't think his song choice was all that much better, stratigically, than Mig's.

This rumor has been around since the beginning of the show, someone told me about it after the 1st episode. Who knows, but since JD is so annoying and Marty can't sing, it doesn't bother me.
I know someone said INXS wouldn't want to ruin their reputation by doing that, but just having this show will do that! I've heard a lot of people refer to the show as simply a ploy to up the sales of the INXS back catalogue. Which has worked, btw. So either way it's sort of a set-up, you know?

If this was not a Mark Burnett production, I may give more credit to the "Mig is a plant" theory. But, as I stated earlier, I just don't see Mark Burnett risking his sizeable reputation by doing something like this. He actually stands to lose alot more than INXS would if it ended up being true.
I can't wait for the finale tomorrow night and am hoping against hope that Mig and Marty both change their minds on their song choices.
I would think that when they signed on for the show, that any songs written and performed (regardless of winning) would become "property" of INXS. The writer would get credit and royalties, but I'd think the song would enter into their library.
I agree, Marty should have gone with Pretty Vegas. And I don't think Mig was making a good choice with BR - I bet he can sing it very well though.

Didn't see Sunday's show...
Are they each only singing one song in the finale then? I thought that they would all at least sing an INXS song as well? (or will that be chosen for them by INXS at the finale?)
I agree that it might be cool to hear "pretty vegas" with a different voice, strategically, but choosing to sing that could also be seen as admitting JD wrote a great song, or simply seen as trying to take down JD, rather than just doing great on their own.

Anyone out there still thing Mig is "a plant?" (the rolled eyes aren't for anyone in this thread, btw, its for the idiots who tried to start this completely ridiculous crap to begin with.)
In all fairness to competition, I thought JD's performance last night earned him the win. Sorry, and don't shoot me, but I still cannot say that I am happy for him though. I think he has a tremendous amount of growing up to do, and I just don't see it happening. If anything, this will make his head explode even more. I was glad that Dave acknowledged what a *GENUINELY* nice person Mig was, and how his personality brightened up the room. I agree. :) I hope to see him around, and maybe even make a recording. He's fun to watch.
I was listening to the radio on my way in, and a lot of people are saying that INXS made a mistake choosing someone who sounds *exactly* like Michael Hutchence. They even played the last song that JD sang with the band for reference, and people were commenting that it was actually "eerie" that they chose someone who sounds identical and that if they were going to start over, they should have gone with a new style of singer. *shrug* I don't know. Maybe big INXS fans are looking for another Hutchence, and that is what they are countng on with JD. I never really listened to a whole lot of INXS before, and CERTAINLY JD being the lead singer is not going to run out and make me buy CD's now.
But Mig might have. ;)

That being said, the finale was pretty satisfying. JD did certainly earn that win. I agree that he has a lot of growing up to do...and found it interesting that he's 31...
RileyMom - I kind of agree with what you heard on the radio this morning. I'm not sure picking JD was a mistake , but when I was watching last night, I thought - well, if they want to do something different, they'll pick Marty. If they want to try to replicate what they had with MH, they'll pick JD.
All in all, great show! Does anyone know what the heck Brooke Burke was talking about when she announced that people should send in audition tapes? Are they doing this again??

I was wondering about that too!! I am dying to know what band needs a new lead singer!
I can't believe JD is 31!! He struck me as being much, much younger!!

i got this from eonline.com:
Meanwhile, show mastermind Burnett said he's already looking forward to a new edition of Rock Star with a different band. "We're in a lot of discussions with people," he told E! Online. "I think that you're very, very likely to see Rock Star: Season Two."
you can read the whole article here (http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,17414,00.html?fdnews)
i'm really curious about which band it will be...

I guess JD's experience impersonating Elvis has helped him to impersonate Michael Hutchence - because that's all I saw on that stage during Easy, Easy.
Honestly, I'm glad Marty didn't win. As bad as it may sound, he's too fresh and talented for INXS. Teaming up with them would hold him back. For that reason, I do think JD is the best choice because he had the least amount of individual talent. Marty grew so much during the competition, I'm really happy for him.
And I just have to say that MiG is such a classy guy. I hope he gets a lot of offers through this!
As a die-hard old school INXS fan, I have no intention of buying their CDs or seeing them in concert with JD fronting them. I always thought their participation in the show was cheesy - and as much as I enjoyed the competition and the music - I still thought the band was cheesy. If they had picked someone who brought something new and different (like Marty or MiG or Ty or even Suzie), I would have been more interested. But I've seen the real Michael Hutchence 4 times live, and the idea of seeing a copy-cat covering his songs just doesn't have appeal to me.
Does that sound mean? I'm not trying to be, it's just how I feel. The band is free to do what they want.
One last observation: Did anyone else think that Kirk looked like he was going on an African safari every night?

I'm not trying to be a spoiled-sport either, but that is EXACTLY what they were saying on the radio this morning. They predict fans will be put off by someone impersonating Hutchence. Time will tell, I guess. I am not convinced (by a long shot) that the JD we were seeing on stage was "the real JD", kwim? I think it was JD trying to impersonate someone else. That is what is really bugging me right now and INXS should have been bothered by that too. Anyone else feel that way? You are right, MiG was totally a class act through the whole thing. JD, well he was just an act, period. :D

LOL!! :D
I too, am curious about what they meant by "auditioning"? Anyone know of a band needing a singer....I am out of the loop...

A prediction:
Marty and Mig will both go on to become big stars in their own right. INXS; fronted by JD, will release an album this year and go on tour in support of the album. The venues booked for the tour dates will have trouble selling the tickets and revenues from the show won't even be enough to cover JD's salary. The band will become ever more desperate; releasing two or more albums a year until their record company gives up on them completely and allows them no more studio time; ever. JD will leave the band in a rash of bad publicity. After the smoke clears; he will approach Marty and Mig about forming their own "Rock Star" band. By that time; Mig and Marty will be so famous they will have no time for JD's foolishness; but may feel sorry enough for him to throw him a bone and allow him to record 'guest star' vocals on their own albums. :D
